AXOPAR 28 TT

If you want a powerboat that is distinctively solid like German cars, perhaps the Axopar 28 TT will be your best option. The GPR-built boat has an aggressive and radical styling.

The Four Winns Vista 255 is a capable weekender for a couple or small family. Although it a fairly fast and efficient boat, it is not designed to be a sports boat, making it an excellent choice for easy cruising for the weekend.

It is worth noting that the cockpit is well elevated, especially considering its size. This means you will have excellent visibility, whether standing or seating. There is a convertible sunbed/back seat set up in the cockpit. This set up features a tilting backrest that can turn the spot into a seat facing aft so that you can watch skiers, swimmers, and anything that catches your interest.

What to Look for In a Power Boat – Buying Guide

You have three choices when it comes to buying a powerboat (or any boat for that matter). These include a custom-made boat, a brand new boat, and a used one (in good condition). Whatever your choice, there are a few fundamental considerations that you shouldn’t compromise on, as they will determine whether or not you will enjoy your investment.

The following are the important things to consider.

• Engine accessibility : How easy is it to access the engine? Choose a boat with a readily accessible engine area to make it easy to reach the battery and check fluid levels.
• Visibility: According to Rule 15 of the United States Coast Guard Navigation Rules, all powered vessels must keep out of the way of boats approaching from the starboard. The problem is that visibility isn’t always good from the helm station of some boats. And if you can’t see your forward starboard quadrant, you might collide with an oncoming boat or run into some problems. So make sure you choose a powerboat that provides adequate visibility from the helm. Here’s one more thing to consider. If you are buying a new boat or dealing with a manufacturer, find out if they have a comprehensive after-sales service. You want to choose a manufacturer that will continue to maintain a one-on-one relationship and an open communication channel with clients.

If you are in the market for a powerboat for cruising with your family, consider one with comfortable cabin space. For boating in the tropics or hot regions, you will need a boat with air conditioning systems.  Consider ample seating, too, because cruising with family and friends is a lot more fun and enjoyable when everyone has a comfortable place to sit and relax on the deck.

If what you want is a powerboat for offshore fishing, consider a boat with angler-friendly storage. A spacious deck where you can cast unhindered is equally important, too. Pay attention to the hull design, as a deep V-shaped hull cuts better through rough waters. Lastly, consider getting a fuel-efficient powerboat for offshore fishing, as this will reduce expenses on fuel.

Choosing the Right Power Boat

Having a list of the best power boats and knowing what makes a good one will not be of much help if you can’t make up your mind on which type to get. As you probably already know, these boats come in a wide variety with a vast range of hull forms, construction materials, and plenty of options in terms of propulsion and power.

To help you decide on which powerboat is right for you, we’ve outlined some of the more common types and their best use. This is not a comprehensive list, though, and that’s because powerboats encompass so many boat types from the small 12-footer tender to the ocean-crossing crawler and every other thing in between. So, we’ve left out some categories such as hovercrafts, personal watercraft, and catamarans.

Essentially, we’ve cut down the list to include rapid monohulls that are a great starting point for any beginner boater looking for the best power boats that suit their needs.

1. Bowriders

A bowrider is a great choice if you want a powerboat with a compact platform and adequate lounging space upfront. The open bows make them particularly suitable for frolicking on sunny days.

Although bowriders have come to be known with a traditional shape that features tapered forward lines, other options that present a whole lot of newer and spacious formats are now available. The space ahead of the helm in the traditional bowrider is quite tight. To allow for more internal seating room, newer versions have beams that are further forward, but the trade-off is a little bit of the sporting ability and aesthetic appeal of the traditional shape.

2. Cabin Style Power Cruisers

If accommodation is topmost in the things you want in a powerboat, the cabin style power cruisers might be your best bet.

These powerboats fall into two broad categories:

• The sporty craft – small design with compact cabins in the bow.
• The people carrier – broader and more spacious designs with an emphasis on comfy accommodation rather than performance.

Whichever option that appeals to you, you need to consider convertible furniture to create more sleeping room. A galley at the top means more accommodation below deck. On the flip side, a cabin style powerboat with the galley below the decks creates more space at the sun deck for seating. So, make sure to choose an option that suits your accommodation needs.

Here’s a quick tip: if you are thinking of buying a cabin style powerboat as your first boat, you don’t have to break the bank to get a massive boat, even if you can. It is best to start with a smaller and cheaper option that is more efficient and manageable.

You would have learned how to operate a boat better and with more confidence in a short while. And using it for a season, you would be able to say for sure what shape and size work best for you.

Some of the best power boats fall in the category of hard-hulled planing crafts with built-in inflatable collars. These are particularly suited for water sports, fishing, lounging, diving, and load carrying.

In the end, your intended usage, price, and size will determine what type of RIBS you buy, but it is important to note some of the options. RIBS constructed from Hypalon are last longer but are more expensive than PVC-constructed tubes. Your driving style will also come into play when you consider seating features, which include traditional jockey seats, leaning posts, benches, and impact-mitigation seats.

The power option depends a lot on the type of boater you consider yourself to be. So, before you choose a fit-out and hull shape , think about how you would typically use a powerboat.

4. Center Console Powerboats

When it comes to versatility, center console powerboats take the lead. You can use them for angling or even for taking your family on long smooth rides.

Select one with less built-in furniture and an emptier deck if these type of boats appeal to you. This way, you can add the furniture that matches your needs the most. Many center console powerboats have less weight due to the inclusion of only basic facilities, which means they cost a lot less than other options. Also, they generally tend to have greater running efficiency and more agile handling because they weigh less.

5. Sport Yacht

Sport yachts are the best power boats for traveling long distances. They are faster and sleeker than traditional yachts but come with spacious cabins for overnight and extended stays. If you intend to entertain guests, this category of powerboats would be your best option. They combine luxury and performance.

I f the big RIB is the boat that scratches your itch, then you will have heard of Scorpion. Arguably the most iconic brand of British RIBs, this company has been building some of the most capable big-sea rigid inflatables for the best part of three decades. The heritage of the 10m Sting stretches back to the 7.5m RIB of the 90s, whose legendary seakeeping set the stage for Scorpion. As they got bigger, not surprisingly they got even better, and were favoured by the hard-core RIB brigade – many of whom set offshore records in them. Since then, the Sting, like most big rigid inflatables, has undergone the RIB revolution. Sporting super-sleek consoles, comfy shock-mitigating seats, heads compartments and even sunbeds, these boats are no longer the reserve of serious men in drysuits. That said, this craft is still built to deal with harsh conditions, has a CE rating of B for 15 and several endurance race wins to its credit.

Constructed at the Scorpion facility at Lymington in Hampshire, this is still a purely British-built product. The only change is that all Scorpions are now sold through the Ancasta network, under the direction of Andy Andrews at Port Hamble. The open 10m Sting, with its non-stepped hull, has been with us a while, but the latest incarnation has a few subtle changes over its previous forms: all decking is now EVO (a high-quality synthetic decking) and there are more seating choices and, most importantly, new engine options in the form of twin 350hp V10 Mercury Verados. These naturally aspirated 5.7L V10 motors have become a game changer for boats like the Sting. More than capable of handling the relatively modest 316kg (lightest version) weight of each engine, the balance and poise of the boat is unaffected, while the performance gain is significant.

Lifting the aft bench seat gives an accurate impression of the build quality, as the standard of the internal mouldings and system engineering is impressive. There is easy access to the batteries, electrics and hydraulics, and it also houses a large DC-powered top-opening fridge, while a curved stainless bathing ladder sits to starboard. The ladder can be locked into position on the port quarter, neatly wrapping around the sponson. Alternatively, you can have a conventional ladder on the port bathing platform, and there is a deck/transom shower served by a 100L water tank. The aft bench seat can easily seat three, and it shuts with clinical precision under the control of two sturdy gas struts. Pontoon access is provided on the starboard quarter by a handy EVO-covered step – removing the temptation to tread on the tube. Strangely, this simple and effective feature is not fitted on the port quarter. Sitting on the back of the helm seats is a wide armchair-like seat, which hinges up to reveal the cockpit teak table, as well as plenty of storage. You could sit four comfortably around this table for a spot of lunch. However, with the bespoke nature of Scorpion, you can opt for an alternative rear-seating U-shaped design. This provides more seating and the option of a wide sunbed infill section, and a fridge under each side of the seating.

The forward section of the boat has two under-deck lockers: the first primarily provides access to the toilet pump, while the forepeak locker houses the windlass – controlling the anchor through an aperture in the stem. There is an infill for the raised forepeak deck section, which can be covered with sunbed mattress sections. The all-important heads compartment sits on the front of the console. Like the aft bench seat, the door lifts up in a precise and controlled manner, held open by a substantial gas strut-supported rotating frame. The toilet is mounted as low as possible, but it is a case of sitting use only. Conveniently, circuit breakers are located on the heads’ aft bulkhead, as is a large access panel should you need to get to the DC systems inside the console.

This is one of the rear seat options.

The helm design works very well either seated or standing. With the electrically powered seat bolsters raised, you get a great driving position – all the better for the wrap-around seat backs keeping you where you need to be. You can securely lock your feet on the angled footboard when the need arises, and the navigator gets an L-shaped grab handle. The throttles sitting right of the wheel are just at the correct height and distance for your arm, and the short windscreen deflects all windblast over your head. The tachometers are located under your line of sight, but you will likely have the 12in Raymarine Axiom Pro configured to show engine as well as navigation data – giving you pretty much all you need to know at a glance. I did feel that a larger MFD would not go amiss considering the space available on the console, which is something Scorpion can no doubt supply.

Driving the Sting

I will not hide the fact that I consider Scorpions to be some of the best RIBs built. Construction quality aside, they always drive superbly. This is not the first 10m Sting I have driven, but it is the first with twin 350hp V10 Mercury Verados. The mid-range power delivery compared to twin 300hp V8 Verados is noticeable. From a standstill, we hit 40 knots in 6 seconds (carrying 500kg of fuel), and this was with 27in-pitch props, which will likely be replaced with 25in propellers. It appeared that our test boat was very slightly overpropped, so the performance figures we recorded will most likely be slightly higher. The pickup is instant with no cavitation, and the Mercury Active Trim system, having been accurately calibrated on commissioning (something that some dealers forget), meant we simply hammered up to 60 knots, letting the system take care of trimming the engines. The boat’s composure is spot on, and though it is fitted with Bennett trim tabs, even on a windy day we did not need them. With a hull transom deadrise angle of 24 degrees, the Sting is well and truly in deep-vee territory, so on our choppy day it made light work of the seaway.

It provides a perfect point-and-shoot driving experience. You just nail the throttles, hang on and steer – cutting tight one-handed turns as the need arises. You might think that any sports boat in this size category should do this, and to a large degree most do, but I simply can’t think of any that do it quite this well. It tracks round as if on rails, even when hitting short, sharp Solent chop beam on. At wide open throttle at any point to the weather, this boat sits rock steady; all you need to concentrate on is not losing your hat. Though it is a 10m deep-vee sports RIB in the true sense of the word, it has a good degree of beam, which coupled with two substantial spray rails that curve right up to the stem means you enjoy a dry ride. This bit of extra girth also helps in terms of hull stability.

As regards passage making, for which this boat is perfectly suited, it has exceptional range for a RIB. One important aspect of the impressive mid-range power delivery of the 5.7L V10s is an efficient sweet spot – in this case, 3200rpm at around 30 knots. If you are of a mind to let the world go by at 30 knots, then the 200-gallon (900L) fuel tank will take you 370 miles with a 20% reserve, and faster cruising at 40 knots will still take you 300 miles with a reserve.

This is one of the UK’S most expensive 10m RIBs built, but also one of the best, both in hull design and construction. Like most major RIB builders, Scorpion provide a high degree of customisation, with substantial items like T-tops on the options list, so rarely are two boats the same. Like any high-end sports car, you are paying for the name, but this brand really does drive very well, especially in conditions when you really need it to, and that is something that is hard to put a price on.

RYA Training Centre

The rya powerboat training scheme is for those wanting to drive small open powerboats such as ribs (rigid inflatable boats), sports boats and small launches..

With the RYA Powerboat Level 2 scheme you can gain an International Certificate of Confidence (“ICC”) that means when you go to certain countries, you may need a license to hire a BOAT up to 10m – that’s where we can help you prepare.

This two-day entry-level course provides the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence (ICC). It focuses on low-speed close-quarters handling, man overboard recovery, an introduction to driving at planing speed and collision regulations.

This two days course gives plenty of time for both practical instruction and theory. Whilst at first glance the syllabus appears very similar to the level one course, the extra time available makes a real difference to the depth in which subjects are covered and therefore the amount a student can learn.

We are lucky with the beautiful Cyprus weather, so we are making the most of it by teaching a great part of the course on board of the boat.

Although the course is open to anyone over 12 years,  a commercial endorsement cannot be obtained until the age of 17.

14 Speedy Battery-Powered Boats Bringing the Electric Revolution to the Water

Even two years ago, the idea of electric-powered watercraft was confined mostly to cool-looking sketches. The notion didn’t carry much credibility in the boating world, since water’s high drag caused batteries to deplete quickly and severely limited range. And who wants to be stuck offshore with dead batteries?

Technology may have finally caught up to the concept, with more than two dozen builders (and counting) having recently launched new EV runabouts. Range remains the restricting factor, but these inshore craft now make sense to four-wheeled EV owners who understand the charging routine. In return: no emissions, instant acceleration and silent running, likely acceptable tradeoffs for boaters who typically use their vessels for only limited periods, anyway. Which means right now we’re watching electric boats come of age in real time. Here are 14 models leading the pack.

Navier 27 Foiler

The Navier 27, which is being built at the Lyman-Morse shipyard in Maine, promises to be a ground-breaker when it launches next fall. The electric boat is built on three retractable hydrofoils (one at the bow and two at the stern) that provide speed, range and efficiency. Navier founders Sampriti Bhattacharyya and Reo Baird, two MIT-educated engineers who both have backgrounds in aerospace, decided to put their knowledge to work with the 27. They’ve assembled a team of experts in hydrofoil design, software engineering and hull design to create what they think is a sustainable dayboat (with an overnighting cabin) that will appeal to most boater profiles. The Navier 27 will have a top speed of 30 knots, and at 20 knots, it will have a 70-mile range. The futuristic boat retails for $300,000.

With a length of nearly 35 feet and top end of 40.2 mph, the Lion shows that electric boats can be authentic weekend yachts. The first production model, currently in build at Maine’s Hodgdon shipyard, will be available in late summer. The boat has a propietary Vita V4 operating system that recharges in under an hour, with electric motors that generate 590 hp and a modern touchscreen interface at the helm. Its open layout, double sunbed aft and open stern, with steps down to the water, reflect contemporary dayboat designs. The boat also has a cabin that can be outfitted with a berth and head. With a base price of $1.5 million, the Lion is an exciting new trend for owners that want an authentic sustainable boat for coastal cruising. 

Say Carbon Yachts 29 E

This sleek hot rod is the electric version of the popular 29 from Say Carbon , the German yard known for lightweight, ultrafast sport boats with minimalist, luxury interiors. Built from carbon fiber, the $450,000 29 E clocks in under 4,400 pounds and is powered by a 360 kw Kreisel electric motor and 120 kw battery. The company claims it’s the world’s fastest electric boat under 33 feet, with a top speed of 57 mph. Of course, all that velocity comes at the expense of range, but at 25 mph it delivers a respectable ambit of 31 miles. Meanwhile, the built-in charger completes a full recharge in six hours.

Q Yachts Q30

Designed with aesthetics over speed in mind, this 30-footer from Finnish builder Q Yachts is an ideal lake boat. Top speed is just 16 mph, but at 7 mph it delivers a range of 70 miles, or 10 hours of running time. Starting at $208,000, the Q30 has a cabin for overnighting, complete with fridge, water and electric toilet. Plus, it can be charged with a standard plug.

Marian M 800 Spyder

This new bowrider has a retro, almost Riva-esque look, and since the Austrian yard Marian builds only electric boats, it has the advantage of a hull designed specifically for extended range. The M 800 Spyder can be outfitted with four different power options, from a 60 kw motor meant for puttering around a lake up to an electrifying 150 kw inboard with 125 kw lithium-ion batteries that delivers a top speed of 39 mph and enough torque to allow the M 800, priced from $270,000, to double as a towboat. At a more leisurely 18 mph, expect a range of up to 30 nautical miles.

Rand Escape 30

Designed as a high-performing electric boat with a wave-piercing hull, this 30-footer was also built light to maximize range: Rand claims the Escape 30 has 30 to 50 percent lower electric consumption than similar-sized boats. Its motors run the gamut from 105 to 460 kw, all paired with correspondingly sized lithium-ion batteries. The open-bow 30-footer starts at about $195,000, can carry up to 12 people and has five different seating areas, including a rear-facing lounge over the swim platform, plus an overnight cabin with head. The hard-top design makes the Escape 30 more of a serious coastal boat than others on this list, though your range will vary depending on engine size (and your personal need for speed).

X Shore Eelex 8000

The instant thrust of this Swedish-built 26-footer, thanks to its 225 kw Brusa electric motor, was an absolute thrill when running the boat on the Intracoastal Waterway off Palm Beach, and the highly respectable 34.9 mph top end competes with many traditionally powered vessels in the same class. The hull was made of recycled plastic and flax fabric (an upgrade from the standard fiberglass/carbon-fiber weave), and instead of teak soles, X Shore used cork, which provides uncompromising grip while being more ecologically sustainable. Twin 60 kw lithium-ion Kreisel batteries can be replenished in under two and a half hours with a supercharger. Even blazing down the ICW, the 8000, priced from $329,000, sounds more like a sailboat than a runabout.

Boesch 750 Portofino Deluxe

If it’s classic runabout looks that invoke a certain feeling of dolce vita that you’re looking for in your electric boat, then look no further than the 750 Portofino De Luxe from Boesch . With a spacious sunpad aft, a retractable soft top, and an automotive-inspired windshield, the boat checks a lot of boxes for both style and practicality. At 25 mph this boat has a battery life of 70 minutes, making it an excellent choice when you need a steed to guide you towards a crisp Aperol spritz and a delicious lakeside nosh.

Correct Craft Ingenity 23E

With room for up to 11 people, the Ingenity 23E is built for a party—with minimal environmental impact. The boat’s bow features round-robin seating that enhances conversation, while the transom is open for unencumbered movement, to and from the water. The bow also offers easy access to sandbars and beaches. A 126kW engine allows the 23E to travel for 14 hours at slow speeds, though if need be the boat can reach 30 mph.

Spirit Foiler

British builder Spirit Yachts has collaborated with America’s Cup veteran BAR Technologies for a hydrofoiling electric vessel with a Torqeedo engine that lends it a relatively leggy 100-mile range. The boat will get up on its foils at 16 mph, cruise at 25 mph, and hit a very respectable top end of 34 mph. Added benefits of the foils include a smoother ride not susceptible to rougher waters, as well as aided efficiency. What’s more, the Spirit’s super-sleek, raceboat profile will immediately make it pop out at near any port of call.

Hermes Speedster E

It’s tough to beat the Greek-built Hermes Speedster E when it comes to looks. The sleek, retro-inspired design has loads of tumblehome and comes in a large variety of customizable colors. A design motif that is reminiscent of mid-20th century Porsche roadsters has made the Speedster a runaway hit at recent boat shows. Now outfitted with a 134kW electric motor that offers an unexpectedly brisk top speed of 45 mph, the runabout promises to gain even more new fans. With room for four and notably low trim angles, the Hermes is an excellent pick for a fun cruise up the ICW—just don’t expect not to attract any attention.

Candela C-8

The C-8 from Swedish builder Candela is instantly recognizable at sea because of its hyrdofoiling technology that has it literally floating above the water. The foils mean the boat is more efficient because it has less drag and is not particularly vulnerable to rougher conditions. And it barely leaves a wake. At 27 mph, the boat has a range of 50 nautical miles and the engines can charge in just two hours. The Candela also sleeps two adults and two children, which makes it a true family boat.

Magonis Wave e-550

At first glance, this electric bowrider has an almost 1970s Mini Cooper sensibility—a small 16-foot hull with as much interior space as possible. The boat made its public debut last summer at the Venice Boat Show, powered by a 10kW Torqeedo electric motor. It recently upped the power by 300 percent with a 30kW Mag Power motor. That turned it from a canal cruiser into a coastal vessel that reaches 22 knots. The boat was designed around the engines to perform well at both low and high speeds. At three knots, it has a range of 10 hours. Despite the small hull, the designers used every inch to maximize the experience, from the open stern to the open-bow configuration. Fit and finish is excellent, with options like a full teak deck, fridge, shower, and telescopic table. Instead of the typical helm console, Magonis substituted a 13-inch, waterproof iPad that can stay with the owner at all times. The starting price is about $36,500.

Minimalist is a good descriptor for Zin ’s 20-foot Z2R runabout. Fast is another one, since the runabout boasts a top speed of 35 mph. The company says the boat’s average range is 80 to 100 miles, and in an uncharacteristic display of transparency, claims it only costs $6 to charge. Compare that to the gallons a similar-sized gas powerboat would consume on a Saturday afternoon, especially in these times of rising fuel prices. The boat is powered by a Torqeedo motor and BMWi3 battery. It has carbon-fiber construction for light weight and structural stiffness, and is trailerable. The flat foredeck also makes it easy to get on and off the Z2R from the bow, and an 18-inch draft lets it come up to the beach on a secluded island.

International Certificate of Competence – ‘ICC’ (up to 10m) - General

An International Certificate of Competence is often considered as the international ‘boat driving licence’. It is usually required by countries/operators if you wish to use your own craft abroad or to charter one.

There are the following ‘classes’ of ICC

• Power – vessels up to 10m, Coastal
• Power – vessels up to 24m, Coastal
• Power – vessels up to 10m, Coastal + Inland
• Power – vessels up to 24m, Coastal + Inland
• Sail – Coastal (includes Power ICC up to10m, Coastal)
• Personal Watercraft

ICCs for vessels up to 10m are obtained via the Powerboat Scheme whilst up to 24m ICCs are obtained via the Motor Cruising Scheme – or tests on your own vessel of such a length.

To obtain the ‘Inland endorsement’ you need to undertake an additional short test – the ‘CEVNI’ test – see below.

You can gain your ICC for up to 10m craft in one of two ways:

Undertake the RYA Powerboat Level 2 Course. Passing this course successfully allows you to apply for the ICC.

Undertake an ICC Direct Assessment. This can be just a half day assessment by a qualified tester (we run such tests) or typically actually runs for a day allowing a bit of time to to be invested ‘brushing up’ on some areas. Please note that for your Examiner to pass you you will need to display a level of competence across a variety of areas at a level comparable with the standard reached on a Level 2 course.

From speaking to many people over the years, we often find that whilst an individual may have boated for years they will struggle to pass the ICC tests as they are lacking in many of the theoretical areas. More often than not people choose to undertake the full Level 2 course.

We are always keen to chat through this with people as we can usually pretty easily assess how your experience level is versus what is required.

Do you need to ‘bolt on’ the CEVNI qualification to your ICC?

A CEVNI endorsement is required if you intend boating on the inland waterways of Europe.

The ICC syllabus contains subjects that go beyond the level taught in the RYA Powerboat Level 2 course. The areas assessed are:

A stage is set for the “oscars of the boating industry”.

The presentation of the awards "European Yacht of the Year" for sailing yachts and "Powerboat of the Year" for motor yachts is a major highlight every year at the boot Düsseldorf and an event that gets the hearts of many watersports fans pumping. This year's winners were selected on 20 January 2024.

At the traditional FLAGSHIP NIGHT on Saturday, 20 January 2024, the major industry get-together of Delius Klasing Verlag and boot, the prestigious awards were presented in a festive act on site in Düsseldorf.

European Yacht of the Year: Jury test drives of the nominated sailing yachts

The international 'European Yacht of the Year' and 'European Powerboat of the Year' awards were presented for what is already the 21st and the 18th time, respectively. As always, the winners of these prestigious awards were chosen by an expert jury consisting of the testing coordinators and editors-in-chief of Europe's leading twelve sailing and eight powerboating magazines. The jury is chaired by YACHT publisher Jochen Rieker and BOOTE editor-in-chief Torsten Moench. From the around 100 new boats that are added to the market every year, jury members initially select the nominees. Then, after comprehensive tests, they name the current year's best models as champions. The 'European Yacht of the Year' winners are determined through an elaborate process that involves the candidates facing the jury's verdict – and the competition – during trials on sea that last several days. The first stage of the sea trials took place off La Rochelle in the autumn of 2023, and the second, even more comprehensive test off Port Ginesta, near Barcelona, four weeks later.

European powerboat of the year: winner voting with points system.

The presentation of this year's 'European Powerboat of the Year 2024' awards was just as exciting. Again, the expert jury was made up of editors-in-chief and testers from the eight European powerboat publications that are leading in this area, from Norway (Båtliv), Italy (Boatmag.it), France (Neptune), the Netherlands (Motorboot), Spain (Nautica y Yates), Switzerland (marina.ch), Austria (Yachtrevue) and Germany (BOOTE). It was no easy task for the experts from the powerboat trade magazines to select the 34 nominees for the seven 'European Powerboat of the Year 2024' categories from the over 250 new boat models. Last year, the organisers already responded to the increasing presence of catamarans and electric boats with separate categories. Besides the usual quality features of a boat, such as workmanship or handling properties, the jury particularly focused on the candidates' layouts, safety and value for money. Ultimately, the realisation of innovative ideas and concepts can also be a decisive factor.

This year, the SEAMASTER Award was also once again presented on FLAGSHIP NIGHT, alongside the 'watersports Oscars'. With this award, the two partners publishing house Delius Klasing and boot Düsseldorf pay tribute to a personality who has made a special contribution to watersports. At the gala event, Petros Michelidakis, the director of boot Düsseldorf, and Martin Hager, the editor-in-chief of YACHT, presented the 'SEAMASTER Award' to the South African Kirsten Neuschäfer, the first woman to win the non-stop Ocean Globe Race.
