Lil Yachty and Despot have shared their first collaboration, “Rain.” The new track finds the Georgia-born, Poland-approved Yachty trading contemplative verses with his newfound New York-born, New York-approved rhyming partner over an extremely Life of Pablo beat by sadpony, who — as Stereogum notes — has also lent his services to Drake, 6ix9ine, and Nicki Minaj, and is the brother of prolific pop producer Justin Raisen. Raisen and sadpony both contributed heavily to Yachty’s most recent album, Let’s Start Here , with the latter brother credited on every track.

While Yachty’s recent tracks have suggested a return to the carefree raps he hinted at abandoning in interviews surrounding Let’s Start Here ’s January release, “Rain” is something a bit different — aligning with neither the psych-rock experiments of that project or the quixotic anthems that made him famous. On the new track, Yachty and Despot sound jarringly incongruous at times. But in other moments, the collab works. Everyone’s got their own opinions on Yachty’s genre diversions (mine are mixed), but at least he’s keeping things interesting.

Lil Yachty Debuts Surprise Song "Rain"

Alongside a new episode of his ongoing ‘the boat show’ series..

Lil Yachty has been gearing up for his next major release thanks to a star-studded collaboration between himself, Drake and DaBaby for “Oprah’s Bank Account.” The nearly 10-minute visual featured comedic sketches throughout as Yachty dressed as “Bohbrah” and hosted intimate conversations with Drake and DaBaby. Each took veiled shots at hip-hop cliches and at times Yachty himself. He’s also been hosting his The Boat Show on YouTube, with its fifth episode guest-starring Wiz Khalifa and Big Sean . Now, Lil Boat has released a new song on his SoundCloud with “Rain,” a slowed down anthem looking for someone to weather the storm with him.

The track features his signature melodies dripped in autotune and the lyrics are free-flowing, almost stream of consciousness in nature, with rhymes skipped for words that bleed into the next line. “On a perfect day I know I can count on you/ When that’s not possible, tell me who can weather the storm? Cus I need somebody who’ll stand by me/ Through the good times and bad times, she will always… always be right there.” It’s a change of pace from “Oprah’s Bank Account” but right at home in Yachty’s catalogue.

Tickets go on sale Friday, March 15, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. CST at Summerfest.com and Ticketmaster.com and in person at the American Family Insurance Amphitheater Box Office, and include admission to Summerfest the day of the show.

About LIHTZ Philadelphia’s Andrew Christian Howard, p/k/a “LIHTZ” is a multifaceted artist that has made a name for himself in music and television. Born in West Philly, Lihtz had a rough upbringing moving from shelter to shelter with his sickly mother. At the age of 7-years-old, Lihtz and his family moved to West Oak Lane or the “Uptown” area of Philadelphia. It was here where he made a name for himself.

Inspired by his uncle, “Big Biscuit,” who was a rapper, Lihtz wanted to follow in his footsteps and by the age of 10-years-old, he found himself in a rap group. This along with his time in church played a heavy role in the soulfulness of his music and heartfelt lyrics.  Lihtz briefly moved to Atlanta after high school to hone in on his sound.
