9 best boat trips in Lanzarote (2024)
By Claire ROBINSON , Region Lovers | February 1, 2024 | no intrusive ads, no sponsored content, just some affiliate links - if you use them, we get a small commission ( read more )
If you have time during your trip, we suggest you take at least one boat trip to Lanzarote . It’s a great way to admire the island from afar, enjoy the volcanoes and maybe see some dolphins and whales. Here is our selection of the best boat trips in Lanzarote.
Our favorite car rental platform : DiscoverCars
This opinion is completely independent , based on our experiences. We visited the region anonymously, making our own choices and paying our bills in full.
1. Dolphin-watching boat trip to Lanzarote
Departure : mainly from Puerto del Carmen Duration: 1h30 to 2h30, depending on the tour chosen
Our favorite tour was the dolphin-watching trip. We were very lucky and had a dazzling show! Of course, there’s no guarantee of seeing dolphins or whales, but in any case you’ll enjoy the beautiful views of the island, the pleasure of gliding over the water… And the excitement of looking off into the distance for a glimpse of a fin. And when you find them, it’s unforgettable!
Several types of boat tours are available, including dolphin watching:
Option 1 – Our favourite: daytime speedboat – duration 1h30 with swimming See details and availability
Option 2 – sunset speedboat – 2h30 with champagne See details and availability
Option 3 – Catamaran sunset cruise – 2h See details and availability
Dolphins are present all year round in the Canary Islands. There are groups of resident dolphins. You’ll mainly see bottlenose dolphins and pilot whales.
Find out more in our article on dolphin watching in Lanzarote .
2. Ferry to the island of La Graciosa
Departure : from Orzola, north of Lanzarote Duration: depending on the crossing chosen… we recommend a full day.
La Graciosa is a small island north of Lanzarote, one of our favourite spots in the Carabibean Islands! Access is by ferry and there are no roads at all, just tracks in the sand. You can explore it on foot or with one of the 4WD cabs. Unlike Lanzarote, it is covered in golden-white sand. But there are also a few volcanoes. The colors are magnificent and you can enjoy a variety of landscapes: beaches, volcanoes and basalt columns. Even the ferry crossing is fascinating, with superb views of the Famara cliffs to the north of Lanzarote.
If you have your own rental car, I recommend taking the first ferry in the morning to avoid the crowds that come to spend the day at the beach. Ferries depart from Orzola. Note that for those staying in Playa Blanca, it takes longer to get to the north (1h10min by car). 2 companies offer ferries from Lanzarote to La Graciosa.
View express ferry departures and book your ticket
If you don’t have a car, they also organize hotel pick-ups combined with the ferry, but you have less choice of schedule.
See options and book your seat
Another option if you don’t have a car is to combine the bus and ferry with a catamaran trip. You won’t be on the island of La Gracios as much, but you’ll be able to admire it from the sea and get a better view of its volcanoes.

3. Cruise to Papagayo beaches
Departure : from Puerto del Carmen or Playa Blanca Duration: 4 hours
Lanzarote’s southwest coast is a must-see. Papagayo and its neighboring golden sandy beaches are considered to be the best on Lanzarote and are one of the island’s main attractions. Their vast sandy expanses have remained largely untouched, with no paved roads leading to them. These beaches are located on the Macizo de los Ajaches (Natural Monument), the island’s oldest territory, formed around 14 million years ago (hence the rounded peaks and deep ravines).
You can explore it on foot, or via an unpaved track. Or you can take a boat out to sea and admire the wilderness. Just be aware that you won’t be able to get to the beaches from the boats.
From Puerto del Carmen: A catamaran allows you to explore the entire south coast and perhaps catch a glimpse of dolphins. You can swim or kayak around the boat. See program and availability
From Playa Blanca: You’ll set off on a yacht to discover these magnificent landscapes. You can swim and stand-up paddle around the boat. See program and availability
4. Yellow submarine ride
Departure : from Puerto Calero (note that this is not the same port as Puerto del Carmen) Duration: 1 hour
Yellow submarine… Yellow submarine… We warn you, after this trick, you’ll have the song stuck in your head! This tour takes you a little way out of the harbor to discover the seabed. It’s pretty impressive to be underwater like that, knowing that you’re not that deep… no stress! It’s an ideal activity for the whole family (except claustrophobics, of course). But the room is big enough, so we didn’t feel any anxiety.
Duration 1h. You must watch a security video before entering their offices. Places are limited! See availability and make reservations
OUR ADVICE FOR RENTING A CAR IN Lanzarote
- Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
- A small car is all you need.
- But you can also choose a larger one if you wish, as the parking spaces are rather large.
- Demand is high, so book early .

5. Excursion to Lobos Island
Departure : from Puerto Calero Duration: 5 hours
This tour combines several experiences for those looking for a complete adventure:
- Fast boat trip
- Descent along the south coast with beautiful views of the oldest part of Lanzarote
- Search for dolphins during the crossing (but nothing is guaranteed)
- Discover part of the island of Lobos and its spectacular scenery.
See details and availability
Another way to discover Lobs Island is to:
- Take the ferry to Fuerteventura – book now
- Then take the small ferry to Lobos – book now
6. Parasailing: boat and paraglider combined!
Departure : from Puerto del Carmen Duration: 10min flight
Discover the pleasure of parasailing, an activity we particularly enjoy, with the sensation of flying but less stress for take-off and landing. Enjoy exceptional views of Lanzarote and its volcanoes!
Check availability and book your flight!

7. Kayak, paddle board or jet ski excursions
Departure : from Playa Blanca Duration: depending on the activity
If you prefer more active craft, you can opt for kayaking or jet skiing…
You’ll have plenty of choice in Playa Blanca.
- Kayaking to explore the coast – see availability and make a reservation
- Paddleboarding for balance training – see availability and book now
- Jet-skiing, if you’re looking for speed – see availability and make a reservation
8. Ferry to Fuerteventura
Departure : from Playa Blanca Duration: 5 hours
From Lanzarote, you can also explore the neighboring island of Fuerteventura. They are both very different, as many of Lanzarote’s landscapes are quite recent compared with Fuerteventura (eruption in the 18th century).
It’s a short ferry ride from Corralejo (north of Fuerteventura) to Playa Blanca (south of Lanzarote). The island is big, so you’ll only be able to see the north, but it’s already nice with the sand dunes!
You can then take the ferry from Playa Blanca to Corralejo. The crossing is very pleasant, with views over the 2 islands and also the small island of Lobos.
See ferry options
Once in Corralejo, you can take a cab to explore the dunes, stroll around the charming town of Corralejo or book a tour. See our article on the best things to do in Corralejo .
9. Cab boat Puerto del Carmen – Puerto Calero
And finally, it’s not really an excursion, but if you want to walk a bit, you can take the short, fairly flat hike between Puerto del Carmen and Puerto Calero and return with the water cab between the two to enjoy the pretty views from the sea (10min crossing).
Buy your tickets.

Lanzarote Boat Trips
Discover lanzarote by boat or catamaran.
Lanzarote in combination with the Atlantic Ocean forms an excellent basis for fantastic boat tours and excursions by catamaran. Feel the sun on your skin, take a refreshing dip in the clear blue ocean and enjoy the stunning panorama of the volcanic island that surrounds the sparkling sea. Everyday life is far away and you can feel how a pleasant relaxation begins slowly. This is vacation for body and soul. There is a huge choice of Lanzarote boat trips, but which is right one for you?
The sea has always had a very special impact on people. Those who have already had a gasp of sea air before know about its magic. The sea breeze gently strokes your hair; you can hear seagulls from afar and have a seemingly endless expanse right in front of you. You get this unique feeling of unlimited freedom. And the crew takes care of your physical well-being with nice food and cool drinks. To make your day at sea an unforgettable event, you should read this article. Here you will find everything you need to know about boat trips in Lanzarote and most importantly what you should pay attention to.
Boat Excursions or Catamaran Trips in Lanzarote
Which is the right boat for you.
When strolling through a harbor, you quickly find that there are countless different types of boats. You wouldn’t think so, but each type of boat differs significantly from the other. The behavior at sea, the equipment and the type of drive are just a few examples of a long list of differences. Below you will find an overview of the boat types available in Lanzarote and their specific characteristics. This will help you to choose the right boat type for yourself and ensure that your trip at sea will be unforgettable.
The Monohull Yacht (Mono)
Everyone knows this classic boat shape. The one hull is the only space, which houses machines, cabins and, sometimes also storage rooms. The control bridge and any possible superstructures are situated on the ship deck that closes the hull. Wave resistance and draft are bigger, with such yachts, so that the waves can cause the boat to sway more. With a travel tablet, however, you shouldn’t really have to care about this detail.
The Catamaran
In contrast to the monohull yacht, a catamaran has at least two hulls. This divides the boat’s load on two points of the water surface, which reduces the draft and thus the wave resistance considerably. Catamarans therefore literally glide along in normal sea condition and a sway is hardly noticeable. They also offer significantly more space on board. And with some catamarans there are nets on the bow between the hulls, on which it is great to chill out.
The Motor Yacht
Motor yachts have no sails, are properly motorized and very agile. Independence from the prevailing wind conditions makes such a yacht more comfortable. Nobody has to worry about the rigging and you can also travel much faster. Due to its construction, there is more space on the bow than in comparable size sailboats.
Sailing in Lanzarote
How to get man and sea into perfect harmony? A sailboat can do this like no other. The wind inflates the sails and you feel how this natural force pushes your boat forward. Sailing boats sway less than motor yachts. Far away from any civilization noise, you silently glide over the sea and enjoy the stillness that is only filled by the lapping of the waves and the blowing of the wind.
What Choice of Boat Trips Do You Have on Lanzarote?
Each individual port of Lanzarote offers a large number of different boat trips. If you want to find the right tour for yourself, it is not that easy. Your choice of course primarily depends on your personal preferences, but the also occasion plays a decisive role. If romance is at the fore for you and your partner on the boat tour, a party boat is unlikely to meet your expectations. And if you’re in a party mood and want to flirt a little, you’re definitely wrong on a submarine. Therefore, it is crucial to make the right choice. The following overview will help you with this:
Lanzarote Submarine Tours
The Yellow Submarine Lanzarote is located in the port of Puerto Calero . The electrically powered submarine is just waiting to introduce you to the colorful underwater world off the coast of the island. There is a porthole in front of every seat, which allows you an unhindered view outside. On your journey to a depth of up to 30 meters, you will eventually encounter some sea creatures. Your guide will give you detailed information about what you can see outside your window. And after about an hour you will be enriched with some interesting impressions. This is undoubtedly an ideal trip for the whole family.
Party Boats in Lanzarote
The motto on these tours is to celebrate and dance. These are usually larger boats on which countless party people have enough space. Loud music and lots of drinks provide for the necessary level of fun. The dance club on the sea sails along the coast of Lanzarote and offers an absolutely fantastic panorama. Some party boats stop for a swim so you can cool off your mood. Sometimes water sports activities such as jet skiing or parasailing are also offered optionally. Therefore, if you are one of the more sociable people, a party boat in Lanzarote is definitely the one for you.
Day Trips on a Catamaran or a Yacht
The term “day trip” refers to boat trips that last between 4 and 6 hours. The theme of these tours is relaxation. The main thing is to offer you a nice day at sea, where you can really relax. Delicious local dishes as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are always available on board. When the skipper anchors in a bay, you can jump into the crystal clear waters or simply relax on one of the sun loungers. Additional offers such as stand up paddling, kayaking or jet skiing may also be available.
The decisive difference between the catamarans and yachts is size. They can accommodate between 9 and more than 100 people. If you prefer a more private atmosphere, we recommend a tour on a small yacht with up to 12 people . Therefore, when booking a day trip, inquire about the capacity of the boat and what services are included.
Tours at Sunset
Watching the sun gradually sink into the sea is a great romance in itself. Experiencing it on board a ship while listening to the waves lapping up increases this feeling immensely. Needless to say that sunset tours are very popular. For this reason, they often also take place on boats with a larger capacity. The catamaran or yacht leaves in the late afternoon. First you cruise off the coast and enjoy some time at sea while swimming or snorkeling. The icing on the cake of this wonderful afternoon is the impressive play of colors of the sunset.
Take your time while looking though our offers. All of our tours are described in detail. Under “Services & Prices” you will also find information about which service is included in the price and which is optional. Through the pictures you can get an impression of what to expect on board.
Where Do the Boats Leave From in Lanzarote?
Boat Trips to La Graciosa
You can reach the smallest inhabited Canary Island very quickly by boat. It only takes about 25 minutes from Lanzarote to La Graciosa . The island is undoubtedly a particularly beautiful place on earth. No paved roads and the houses of Caleta de Sebo are built in the sand. There are various boat trips to La Graciosa on offer. Some propose to go ashore while others cross and anchor off the coast of this pretty island.
Boat Trips From Costa Teguise
Despite its direct location on the Atlantic coast, there is no port in this popular tourist destination in the east of Lanzarote. Consequently, if holidaymakers in Costa Teguise want to undertake a boat trip, they must travel to one of the island’s port locations. The closest port from which excursion boats start is located in Puerto del Carmen. Fortunately, most operators will pick you up for your boat tour from Costa Teguise.
Boat Trips From Puerto del Carmen
There are also various boat tours starting daily from the sports harbor in Puerto del Carmen . A luxurious sailing catamaran sails to the Papagayo beaches among others. Spend an unforgettable day on the most beautiful beaches of Lanzarote. You can also go dolphin watching from Puerto del Carmen . Meet these unique marine mammals in their natural habitat.
Boat Trips From Playa Blanca
The port in Playa Blanca primarily is the bridge to the neighboring island of Fuerteventura. For this reason, different ferries depart from there every day. And Playa Banca is also the starting point for the popular excursion boats that set out from here to offer their guests an eventful day at sea. In addition to trips on yachts and catamarans, you can also take trips on fishing and glass-bottom boats. The offer of boat tours in Playa Blanca really huge.
What Is the Right Service For You?
Before you book a boat trip, you should check the associated service offer in detail about. Because depending on your requirements and expectations, some of the tours may be more or less suitable for you. Therefore, find out what kind of entertainment is presented on board and what food and drinks are served. In the tour descriptions you will find detailed information about the inclusive and optional services under the menu item “Services & Prices”. Please pay particular attention to:
- Food: Meals are included in the tour price for most boat trips. Find out which dishes are offered in advance. Contact us if you cannot find this information in the tour description. If you suffer from allergies or food intolerances, you can let us know as part of the booking process so that we can provide alternatives.
- Drinks: Alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks should be included in the price. Check if your favorite drinks are included. If the drinks on the tour are optional, it is interesting to know which you can purchase on board and what they cost.
- Entertainment: The type of entertainment on board can determine whether it will be a successful day or not. Since live music does not appeal to everyone and playing or dancing is not necessarily a thing for everyone. It’s best to ask in order to avoid unpleasant surprises.
- Water Sports: If water sports are offered on board that is not included in the price, you should check in advance what they will cost and how long they will take.
What Should You Bring on the Day of the Excursion?
- Sunscreen: Please apply sunscreen liberally and repeatedly. Solar radiation at sea is more intense and is quickly underestimated due to the cooling sea breeze.
- Swimwear: So that you can go swimming and snorkeling at the stops.
- Bath sheets: In addition to drying, the bath sheets also offer more hygiene as you can cover the mats with them.
- Jackets: Especially in the winter months from October to May and on evening tours, it can get a little cooler at sea.
- Tablets for seasickness: If you already know that you suffer from seasicknedd, it is better to take a tablet before starting your trip.

This type of nautical activity is always an adventure. They are quite attractive to all kinds of people, but particularly for families, especially those with children. They are also popular among groups of friends. However, they are also quite appropriate for a romantic trip with your partner, since there are few things more tender than holding hands on a boat deck.
Best Boat trips with pick up service in Costa Teguise, Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca, Costa Calero and Arrecife.
Ultimately, we offer various journeys. For example, you can embark on a ferry in order to discover the neighbouring island Fuerteventura, a place that is related to and yet completely distinct from Lanzarote. Or if you prefer, we can do a boat tour to la Graciosa where we could sail along the north coast of Lanzarote until we arrive at the island of La Graciosa , where a catamaran will allow you to enjoy this islet, part of the Chinijo archipelago, in its full glory. You can swim in the sea away from the coast or do different aquatic activities in order to enjoy an unforgettable day.
Being two different destinations, one two the north and the other to the south of Lanzarote, clearly these nautical excursions set sail from different ports. However, you do not have to worry about this much, since in both cases we will pick you up in the area where you are staying, which is most likely in the tourist zones of Puerto del Carmen, Arrecife, Playa Blanca or Costa Teguise. You do not have to look for boat trips from Playa Blanca , Costa Teguise boat trips or Puerto del Carmen boat tours , only check the pick up options on each tour. Either way, we’ll go there to get you!
So you have no reason not to enjoy this sailing experience with your family, discovering new places on the Canary Islands. You can find everything you need in order to hire these attractive Lanzarote boat excursions right here: the price of the activity, the precise itinerary, the day schedule, the types of boats that you’ll travel on and the different possibilities that will be within your reach throughout the day. In other words, we’ll show you a detailed description of each excursion in Lanzarote so that you can make your online booking with total peace of mind.
However, perhaps you prefer to trust the reviews of other travellers who have already experienced these nautical routes. In that case, you can also read the comments and testimonials from other tourists who have already gone on these sailing trips and who wanted to share with you everything that they enjoyed about the day, which for them became an unforgettable one. And of course, we are sure it will be the same for you. Try it and tell us for yourself!
Dolphin-watching outings
Some of the most exciting boat tours are the dolphin watching tours . Of the 87 species of cetaceans that exist in the world, we can find 30 on the coast of Lanzarote. Don’t miss the feeling of seeing dolphins in the wild, pods of up to 200 dolphins playing around the boat, riding the waves in smaller groups that are sometimes made up of mothers and calves.
Sunset cruise
Boat sunsets certainly have something special. Relax while contemplating the last moments before sunset while accompanied by your partner or anyone special to you.
Sportfishing
It doesn’t matter if you’re an expert fisherman or if you want to go fishing for the first time, since the fishing boats in Lanzarote will offer you all the equipment, training and experience so that you can get the most out of your fishing day.

Lanzarote Visitors Testimonials
We did the 1 1/2 hour trip! Highly recommended, we had a 14' 12 and 8 year old with us and we all loved it. Didn't see any dolphins but got a glimpse of a whale. Great fun and the highlight of our holiday. Very professional service who made you feel safe. This is a must to do in Lanzarote and far better to look for dolphins in the wild where they should be! I cannot thank you enough for a memorable day X from the Jones'
This was our second time doing the RIB coastal adventure with waverider. As before it was an amazing experience and very professional. Was quite choppy out in open water so lots of bumping over waves and plenty of soakings from the spray, which all added to the fun. Lovely chance to swim/snorkel down at Papagayo. Thoroughly recommend this trip if you are up for some fun.

Went on the dolphin and whale watching experience. You have to be aware there is no guarantee you will see them as they are free spirited sea going creatures but you are given a real good search for them. We did see plenty of dolphins which were amazing. They were diving up and down, seemed as though they were playing with the boat or showing off as they swam right beside us. Marco the captain really tried to find something for you to see and being on a boat at see is great, so relaxing. A bonus was we had a bit of a speed blast back to the harbour, but if you don't like speed it's not done. I would recommend this experience.
