84m Feadship superyacht Savannah for sale for the first time

The 83.5-metre Feadship motor yacht Savannah has joined the market for the first time with Robert Shepherd of Edmiston ahead of her appearance at the Monaco Yacht Show .

Built in the Netherlands by Feadship in 2015, the multi-award-winning steel and aluminium superyacht was designed and engineered by Feadship and De Voogt Naval Architects with living spaces designed by CG Design – one of only two yachting projects undertaken by the French studio. 

Winner of the coveted Motor Yacht of the Year award at the World Superyacht Awards in 2015, Savannah is a truly innovative hybrid vessel with an exceptionally clean "electro-mechanic" propulsion package, claimed to provide fuel savings of 30 per cent compared to conventional yachts in her class.

As well as being one of the most sought-after charter yachts on the market, Savannah has been consistently maintained since new – with a full repaint in her statement "Sea Foam metallic green" took place during a major refit in 2020 that cost upwards of €9,000,000 alongside other numerous upgrades. Walls of glass wrap around her decks and Cristina Gherardi Bernadeau and Marcello Bozzarelli of CG Design rewrote the rule book when it came to her interiors, introducing curved bulkheads to replace the usual straight ones. Dark rosewood floors, silk curtains, polished columns and metallic finishes throughout create an opulent ambience.

Savannah accommodates 12 guests across six cabins, with a VIP, two doubles and two convertible cabins making up the five guest cabins forward on the main deck. A statement elevator connects all decks and the communal spaces feel absolutely vast with high deckheads. The owner's private deck is described by the broker as, "a showstopper, with a huge skylight above the bed, a dining room, saloon, office, large marble bathroom and dressing area providing an exclusive enclave, while outside there is a private terrace and helipad". There are generous quarters for a crew of 24 in 12 cabins.

Savannah's amenities include a nine-metre swimming pool on the aft deck – cascading onto the swim platform and connecting with the main saloon – a gym, a spa and Hammam, a DJ station and a barbecue on the sundeck. One of her most lauded features is undoubtedly a submerged underwater "Nemo" lounge which allows for spectacular viewings of sealife in anchorages in an amphitheatre-like setting.

The tender inventory includes a 9.5-metre limousine tender and a 9.5-metre sport tender. As well as a full array of water toys, Savannah sports a golf driving range and basketball court.

The 2,305GT yacht for sale contains one 2,414hp Wärtsilä 9L20 4-stroke engine as well as a one-megawatt battery bank. She has a range of 6,500 nautical miles at her cruising speed of 14 knots and a maximum speed of 17 knots.

Interior Design & Engineering

The interior of the SAVANNAH motor yacht is flooded with light thanks to her peerless use of wall glass that wraps around her decks. She’s home to the first-ever Nemo lounge: a partially submerged room with glass walls that allow guests to literally see under the waterline.

You get a real sense of space when you head inside the main deck of the SAVANNAH yacht. The main salon is secured by sliding curved-glass doors and feels like an extension of the aft deck. It leads to a second salon, with a further salon and dining area on the owner’s deck above.

With just 12 guests accommodated across her 83.5m, you can expect to sleep in spacious rooms. The upper deck is home to a luxurious, light-flooded owner’s suite with a wall of glass and a large skylight, plus a separate office, a marble en suite, and a large seating area outside. Each of the other cabins—a VIP, two doubles and two convertibles—boast large windows to increase the feeling of space and maximise your connection with the ocean.

Not to be overlooked is her impeccable eco-credentials. As Feadship’s first-ever hybrid superyacht, the trailblazing SAVANNAH combines an efficient hull design with impressive electric-diesel performance for greener—and quieter—cruising.

Yacht facilities & Entertainment

An overwhelming number of features are waiting for you on the SAVANNAH yacht. On a practical level, amenities like her touch-and-go helipad and elevator serving four decks make her easily accessible.

Other facilities, like her 9m swimming pool, full beach club, gym, spa and Hammam, are particularly attractive during a charter. You could even make use of the DJ station and throw your own party or indulge in treatments from the onboard masseuse and beautician.

Her comprehensive modern art collection will also keep you transfixed. For example, the double-height video monitors that line the passage between the two main deck salons can be programmed to display static or flowing abstract images

Feadship Savannah – World’s First Hybrid Superyacht

Netherlands-based yacht builder Feadship has launched the first eco-friendly hybrid superyacht Savannah

Feadship,  a Netherlands-based yacht builder just launched “Savannah,” the world’s first real hybrid megayacht. On the outside, the 273-foot ship looks like a typical diesel giant, with five floors, a swimming pool and massive decks.

Feadship’s Savannah is powered by an advanced power system with a single diesel engine, three diesel-electric generators and giant lithium ion batteries. This combination results in a yacht that is 30 percent more fuel efficient than others of its size.

“Feadship has leveraged all of the options available in the marine industry today to bring this hugely innovative system to completion,” says Ted McCumber, the project manager for Savannah. “The way in which one gigantic propeller has been installed in front, with another electrically powered prop in its slipstream, has also never been applied on a yacht,” explains Henk de Vries, a Feadship director. “A similar system has been used onboard passenger ships in Japan, but that is an ‘industrial’ solution, without the attention to comfort required on a Feadship. To achieve this on a superyacht entailed an exceptional degree of cooperation with Wärtsilä and all the other equipment manufacturers.”

Thus, similar to a hybrid car, the Savannah can change power modes depending on the length of the journey. For short trips, the electric mode can be used, while diesel mode is better for longer voyages. For higher speeds, of 13 to 17 knots, the super vessel can use a combination of generators and diesel, and for top-speeds of 19 knots, all three systems can kick in.

Feadship’s Savannah on board amenities are exclusive and luxurious with some interesting design elements. Sliding glass doors around the saloon, turn the stretch of deck from the pool to the saloon into an open-air space, allowing to run from the main saloon and dive straight into the sea. The interior has an “underwater lounge” where guests can observe the fish outside or watch the underside of the 29-foot swimming pool. This room also converts into a movie theater with adjustable lighting and lens types and positions.

SAVANNAH Yacht – Extravagant $140 Million Superyacht

She can accommodate up to twelve guests and twenty-four crew members and is known for her unusual underwater lounge. SAVANNAH is available for charter for a weekly price of US $1 million per week.

The SAVANNAH yacht is described as a masterpiece of design, and her interior has several unusual features. Twelve guests find space in her six cabins which were designed by the CG Design.

The master suite even has a private balcony, and many of the cabins were designed with unconventional rounded shapes to give the yacht a unique touch.

She has a hammam, open-concept gym, a spa and indoor glass balconies with large TV walls that can be individually programmed.

However, the most sought-after feature among charter guests is the underwater viewing lounge which can be transformed into a cinema if requested.

It was custom-designed and is unique to SAVANNAH. She also has a basketball court on board and never fails to surprise her guests with luxurious amenities.

Specifications

The SAVANNAH yacht was built by the Dutch shipyard Feadship and delivered to her owner in 2015.

She is 83.5 metres (273.11 ft) long with a 12.5-metre (41 ft) beam and a 3.95-metre (13 ft) draft. Her gross tonnage lies at 2,250 tons, and she sails under the flag of the Cayman Islands.

Her unique hybrid engines allow her to reach a range of 6,500 nautical miles. SAVANNAH’s top speeds lie at 17 knots, although she cruises most comfortably at 14 knots.

She was the first hybrid superyacht delivered by Feadship and remains one of their most elaborate projects.

The SAVANNAH yacht has a beautiful silvery-white exterior with large windows. Guests can enjoy her four decks with a large pool aft.

Her top deck features a spacious jacuzzi with fantastic views. Since SAVANNAH is available for charter, she carries a variety of toys and equipment on board.

Most notable are her three jet skis, two laser sailboats, four seabobs, three kayaks, and four standup paddleboards.

She also has four mountain bikes, inflatables, a trampoline, and towable toys available for the enjoyment of the guests.

SAVANNAH has four tenders, two of which are 9.5 meters (31 ft) long. Like her interior, the exterior of SAVANNAH was designed by the Parisian design office CG Design.

Her owner bought SAVANNAH for a total price of US $140 million in 2015. She generates additional annual running costs of US $10 to 15 million.

Feadship savannah: the first hybrid megayacht.

In an effort to join the trend of developing new projects that adhere to greater environmental awareness and sustainability parameters, with the most advanced technology, and excellent performance—and without neglecting luxury—the renowned Dutch shipyard Feadship presented its new 273 feet model (83.5 meters). The Feadship Savannah comes with a diesel/electric hybrid engine, revolutionary hull design and a propulsion system that yield significant fuel efficiency.

The world’s first hybrid mega yacht, as defined by its manufacturer, is a majestic ship with five levels created by De Voogt Naval Architects and designed by the firm CG Design. Aesthetically and technologically innovative, the Savannah has a Wärtsilä 9L20 diesel engine able to generate 1,800 kW at 1,000 rpm, propelling three Caterpillar high-power generators that store energy in efficient lithium-ion (Li-Ion) batteries.

This complex hybrid generation system feeds a set of giant propellers, about 40 percent larger in diameter than conventional models. The main propeller is located in the center of the boat. Just behind it, there is a complementary aft propeller that assists in light navigation maneuvers–mounted on a swivel that makes it possible to guide propulsion in all directions. The Savannah is the first ship of this size to have this sophisticated propulsion system.

As project manager Ted McCumber puts is, “Feadship has leveraged all the options available to bring this hugely innovative system to completion. The possibility to choose between diesel, diesel-electric or fully electric is truly exceptional. Moreover, Savannah is the first yacht in the world to be running with an azipull and a variable-pitch propeller.”

The giant, streamlined hull of the Savannah was made with a floating aluminum superstructure featuring iron panels; glass reinforced surfaces and teak decks, which have enabled it to achieve the ideal weight. The technological set of the hull, propulsion and a carefully designed hydrodynamic profile, ensure greater efficiency and average fuel savings of 30 percent.

Due to confidentiality agreements required by its owner, many details of the interior of this spectacular mega yacht were not disclosed. However, we know that the ship was built with a double master suite and room for only 10 guests, while the facilities for the crew can accommodate up to 26 members, which will allow a service to the highest level of luxury and safety. Feadship’s intention with this vessel is to make cruising more efficient and life at sea more comfortable, all while catering to an environmentally-friendly client base, providing substantial savings in fuel consumption, and lowering emissions. The Savannah is available for charter .

Among the generous teak decks of the majestic vessel, the main foredeck of the third level stands out. It shows a splendid upper terrace and another— on a higher level— with its own Jacuzzi. It also highlights the main aft deck, with access to the beach club where there is a superb pool more than 25 feet in length.

However, one of the most distinctive and attractive features of the Feadship Savannah is the spectacular lounge located below the waterline of the ship. The hull´s reinforced glass panels line one of the walls, offering magnificent underwater views. The manufacturers devised this ingenious feature to allow passengers to see and enjoy the seabed and the waters around the vessel while they relax in comfortable armchairs.   ■

Hydrex helps megayacht MY Savannah stay out of drydock and in business

Rapid in-water repairs help keep the megayacht MY Savannah on charter and out of drydock.

The MY Savannah is an 84m luxury megayacht built in 2015 by Feadship, available for charter with a crew of 24 for up to twelve guests. She has the distinction of being the first hybrid superyacht and has gained numerous awards.

Depth sounder replacement

The Savannah ’s engineers found that the transducers could not be replaced from inside the yacht.

“Time was incredibly important to us…”

“When they told me that we couldn’t repair the depth sounders without coming out of the water, I started to look a little further into why, and what we could do to fix that,” says Chris. He reached out to the technical advisor at their management company, Y.CO Luxury Yacht Management. “They gave us contact information for two companies who might help, one of which was Hydrex,” Chris recalls.

“When I went to the Hydrex website and saw that changing transducers was a specific service offered, I got on the phone right away. I had a really good conversation with a very knowledgeable young man at Hydrex. “

“Time was incredibly important to us as we didn’t know the exact schedule of the upcoming charter, so we were very impressed with what we were able to accomplish and organize over a weekend,” Chris continues. “Having initially reached out on Saturday, by Sunday we had arranged for a team to fly out on Tuesday, complete the job on Wednesday and fly back on Thursday. It was extremely swift correspondence late into the night on the weekend, and very helpful – solutions not problems.”

The Savannah was in Göcek, Turkey at the time. Chris was not familiar with the local yards and his alternative would have been to go to drydock in Genoa or Barcelona. “A rough estimate of the cost of going to drydock was an absolute minimum of 25-30,000 euro just for us to come out of the water to do the repair. As soon as it reached two, three, four or five days it would have been a lot more. And that was without taking into account the cost of getting there and back.”

The job itself went exactly according to plan. Chris says, “It was a professional experience from the get-go: from the initial correspondence to stepping on board to the post report, it was a really seamless, smooth operation. The Hydrex team arrived on time or ahead of time, a well-presented, fit, strong team,” Chris recalls. “We went over the plan and which depth sounder we were going to tackle first and we set to work. The actual work went very well. The Chief Engineer was very happy with how everything developed and progressed.

We were able to successfully switch out the forward and the aft transducers and it was done safely. There was certainly a high awareness and focus on safety which is very much how we like to operate, with signage and risk assessments and procedures from the vessel side and from Hydrex. I was very happy to see a very thorough mindset for safety there.”

The total cost of the job was less than half of what it would have been if the Savannah had had to go to drydock.

Anode replacement

Following the success of the transducer replacements, the Chief Engineer, Andrew Gerrard, decided a few months later, when the Savannah was in Antibes, to contact Hydrex and use the same approach for another problem that had been nagging and which had looked like it could only be remedied in drydock.

“We were pleased with the results of the transducer job, so decided to do the anode replacement on the same basis,” says Andy. “Our contact at Hydrex was very thorough and quick to reply. I felt as though we were in safe hands from the get-go. The team mobilized very quickly which worked very well with our busy schedule.” 

“We aren’t often in the same place for very long so it was important to be able to undertake the job without a big time window. They really fitted around us and our schedule and were very willing to help out with all aspects of the anode replacement. The job was completed to our full satisfaction. The anodes are now fully functional and leak-free and it has prevented us from having to drydock the vessel outside our normal schedule. We are very pleased with the resolution.”

The Savannah ’s captain concluded, “The biggest thing with these jobs, even though they were not overly complex for your team in comparison to some of the work they do, was peace of mind for us. The work has to be done correctly. Having that expertise and competence on board with the Hydrex team who can fix something if it doesn’t quite go to plan or any issues come up with changing an anode or a transducer in the water was probably the biggest thing for us.”

He reiterates his first impression of Hydrex: “You usually have to wait for people to reply and so on. Being able to organize the job so quickly over a weekend, I was like, ‘Wow, OK! This company is obviously well organized, well managed, well run, eager for work.’ Brilliant!”

This was business as usual for Hydrex and a perfect example of providing fast underwater and afloat service to vessels in need, so as to keep them in service and out of drydock.
