Exterior design
The Oceanis 46.1 is based on a Finot-Conq plan, keeping the distinctive stepped hull of the 51.1.
Apart from her performance at sea and the huge amount of space that set this boat apart, this architecture makes optimal use of the cockpit beam. An incredibly efficient deck plan makes her wonderfully safe and easy to use.
The furling mast, self-tailing jib and all the halyards and sheets brought back to a single winch at each of the helm stations, make manoeuvring simple when short-handed sailing.
Interior Design
Large hull portholes bring a considerable amount of natural light right into the centre of the boat, so that you can truly enjoy the elegant interiors by Nauta Design. A choice of light brushed oak or mahogany set the tone and create the interior atmosphere, which can be readily customized.
EVERY STYLE OF CRUISING
Easy to sail, easy-going and fast, the Oceanis 46.1 can be customized to make her unique, appealing to a wide range of crews. Attention to design details makes life on board a real pleasure and you can sail confidently in the knowledge that she is safe.
COCKPIT AND RELAXATION
The Oceanis 46.1 has a very spacious cockpit with space for 8 guests around a large table. There are two reclining sun loungers together with drinks holders on either side of the companionway. These can easily be lifted and brought forward onto the fore deck.
MASTER SUITE
With unparalleled space on a boat this size, the master’s cabin has a shower room with a separate head, offering comfort worthy of sailing yacht of much bigger proportions, with a 160 x 205 cm island bed.
SPEED AND SENSATIONS
With a longer mast, by one metre, a sail area increased by 28%, Harken deck fittings and a deep lead-bulb keel to reduce drag, the First Line version of the Oceanis 46.1 is all set to offer unique cruising sensations.
A connected boat
The mobile application, Seanapps , and its onboard unit lets you view the status of the boat's various systems (battery charge, fuel or water tank levels, maintenance scheduling) via your smartphone, as well as planning your route or reviewing your sailing status using your mobile phone.

Rig and Sails
Auxilary power, accomodations, calculations.
The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.
Classic hull speed formula:
Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL
Max Speed/Length ratio = 8.26 ÷ Displacement/Length ratio .311 Hull Speed = Max Speed/Length ratio x √LWL
Sail Area / Displacement Ratio
A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.
SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64) 2/3
- SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
- D : Displacement in pounds.
Ballast / Displacement Ratio
A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.
Ballast / Displacement * 100
Displacement / Length Ratio
A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.
D/L = (D ÷ 2240) ÷ (0.01 x LWL)³
- D: Displacement of the boat in pounds.
- LWL: Waterline length in feet
Comfort Ratio
This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.
Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam 1.33 )
- D: Displacement of the boat in pounds
- LOA: Length overall in feet
- Beam: Width of boat at the widest point in feet
Capsize Screening Formula
This formula attempts to indicate whether a given boat might be too wide and light to readily right itself after being overturned in extreme conditions. Read more.
CSV = Beam ÷ ³√(D / 64)

City issues apology after demanding $461 from widow of slain cop for overpaying him months earlier

The city of Oakland apologized Wednesday for seeking to reclaim $461 from the widow of Tuan Le, a police officer who was killed in the line of duty last year.
The city administrator’s office told local news station KRON4 it decided to waive the debt after the matter was brought to its attention and considers the matter “closed.”
“The City stands with Officer Le’s family and apologizes for any distress or inconvenience this issue has caused for them, and we will continue our unwavering support,” the office said .
Le was overpaid by $461 as a result of technical issues in the wake of a 2023 ransomware attack against city systems.
When he was shot and killed in December 2023 , the debt was transferred to his widow. The city asked for the money and was reportedly willing to take it from his death benefits.
The Oakland Police Officer’s Association accused city officials of harassing Le’s wife Sarah Fung over the repayment.
"We were furious," Huy Nguyen, the president of the OPOA, told ABC 7. "It’s devastating to experience what she is going through."
"The city attorney’s office reaching out to our executive director asking about insurance policies and other benefits to pay $461," he added. "Do you really want to waste this much money and effort into doing this?"
(The city attorney’s office denied seeking to lien the pension and benefits going to Fung.)
“Your inhuman, outrageous, disgraceful, heartless, and unconscionable efforts, plans and demands for payment have deeply troubled Sarah and OPOA members,” the OPOA wrote in a letter to city officials before the debt was closed. “You should, given the circumstances, write off the $461. That is what any responsible government agency or leader would do.”
Le was killed on December 29, 2023, while responding to a burglary in progress at a cannabis dispensary in Jack London Square.
Four people have been charged in connection with the murder.

In the 1990s, when Cleveland built the Browns stadium, City Hall took out loans to cover the $311 million upfront cost. Over time, contributions from the team, the NFL and the state amounted to $112 million, which the city used to help make regular debt payments.

LENGTH: Traditionally, LOA (length over all) equaled hull length. Today, many builders use LOA to include rail overhangs, bowsprits, etc. and LOD (length on deck) for hull length. That said, LOA may still mean LOD if the builder is being honest and using accepted industry standards developed by groups like the ABYC (American Boat and Yacht Council).
