Sailfish Catamarans commenced operations at Alstonville, Northern NSW in 1993.

Since then, sailfish have grown from a staff of two producing five boats a year to now with a staff of over twenty full time tradesmen and apprentices producing approximately thirty custom built plate aluminium power catamarans per year. in this time sailfish have a custom built factory that includes areas for aluminium boat fabrication & welding, custom spray painting booth and boat fit out bays..

Sailfish Catamarans growth and success has been as a direct result of the efforts of all of our team. Led by Darren the Sailfish team have met stringent standards required by government and maritime authorities, professional fishermen, safety & rescue bodies as well as a large number of pleasure craft owners.

Our success is dependant on the teamwork that exists in our company and we will continue to cultivate the highest levels on ethical standards and workmanship within our workplace.

Seawind 1600

CRUISING CATAMARANS FOR REAL SAILORS

Seawind Catamarans have long been Australia’s most popular cruising catamaran designs. With over 35 years experience in building the highest quality blue water catamarans. As already discovered by our growing family of adventurous and like minded Seawind fans the world over, a Seawind boat could be the ideal sailing catamaran for you and your family!

STATE OF THE ART COMPOSITES

What's in a seawind .

Seawind Catamarans is in continuous development with every new boat model, building on the knowledge and success of previous designs. Every catamaran yacht is the result of hundreds of collective years of multihull experience, and the best construction techniques the world has to offer. Seawind Catamarans uses Resin Infusion Technology to produce a lighter, stronger, and cleaner product. In partnership with High Modulus and DIAB technologies, the complex infusion implementation process was developed using a 3D simulated flow model (pictured here) to ensure that best quality and consistency is achieved with every new Seawind sailboat.

PROVEN RELIABILITY FIRST & FOREMOST

Every Seawind sailing catamaran is built for cruising practicality, but delivered on a platform of fast, performance hulls with a fine bow entry and strong stiff construction. Poise is combined with power in the shape of a relatively powerful sail area, providing a power to weight ratio to set pulses racing.  This additional power delivers the speed to bring significantly more destinations within reach, satisfying a modern market which may need to fit “extended” cruising into only a few weeks or months. But in all of the 600 catamaran boats launched, not one has ever suffered a rig failure or have we ever experienced a capsize.  Seawind catamaran yachts are built on a track record of success.

ERGONOMIC & PRACTICAL

Seawind Catamarans’ sustained success over so many years is built on key features which are part of our DNA. Huge cockpit doors open to combine the saloon and cockpit – a feature unmatched in the market, and which provide expansive and versatile living space.  The new Seawind 1260 enhances this feature further by adding a modular cockpit arrangement. Move chairs and seats to arrange the space as you need it, as circumstances demand.  Seat 8 people inside, and another 8 outside.  Or bring everyone in and make that a dozen inside or easily clear the cockpit for a long passage.  Every Seawind catamaran sailboat provides flexibility and luxury while sacrificing none of the practicality that made previous Seawind Cats models the success they are. Seawind boats also provide unparalleled entertainment space while sacrificing nothing in offshore safety.

PROTECTED SAFE STEERING

Dual helm stations are found on every Seawind Catamarans sailboat, and they offer 360-degree visibility, even on the largest Seawind 1600 model.  This allows the skipper to sail safely in crowded harbor conditions, and to keep an eye on the crew when offshore. Large targa tops offer protection from the harsh offshore conditions, both sun and rain, while panoramic opening windows provide ventilation as well as visibility.  Seawind Catamarans boats offer the protection of a pilothouse yacht, with the visibility and helming advantages of a sailing catamaran.

INDOOR/ OUTDOOR LIVING

The famous Australian indoor / outdoor, open lifestyle is entrenched in Seawind Catamarans designs, with an unbeatable living area complimented by brilliant natural ventilation, protected cockpit lounge, and social helm seats putting the skipper in control as well as in the conversation. Best of all, you can enjoy what many catamaran sailboats compromise on… visibility – for the skipper and crew, with 360 degree views from the helm and saloon seats all within the protection of the fiberglass coachouse and targa top.

Expertly creating one-of-a-kind catamarans, Lightwave Yachts builds to order – that means every one of our catamarans is personally crafted for each owner.

We create industry-leading sailing and power catamarans .

The Lightwave Experience.

Imagine stepping onboard your own customised lightwave catamaran..

As you survey the sleek lines and elegant styling of your catamaran, you notice the small touches – the ones you added.

As you deftly prepare your catamaran at handover, you recall the helpful hints explained during your personal induction programme with the Lightwave team and your heart beats faster at the excitement that awaits you.

You have in mind a favourite anchorage as the wind picks up speed, carving through the crisp water, expertly handled; you feel the wind on your face and the freedom and exhilaration of enjoying life. If you’re looking for the pinnacle in luxury catamarans, contact us today to submit an enquiry, and let us build you the catamaran of your dreams.

take me there

Our catamarans have evolved from the vast experience of Roger Overell and his team at Lightwave Yachts, in professional off-shore racing and extended cruising to give a functional, comfortable blue water cruising catamaran which is performance oriented.

Our catamarans are truly exceptional and unique.

Every Lightwave is expertly, personally crafted for each owner. Proudly Australian Made, Lightwave Catamarans are one of the most prestigious brands available Worldwide. Elevated performance is critical to the designs. Sleek, stylish, elegant lines dominant in their head turning appeal.

Craftsmanship is paramount and the hand finished appeal pleasantly overwhelms the most critical eye. Safety is prioritised and skilfully incorporated. Like no other production catamaran, Lightwave Catamarans provide the ultimate in performance, style, quality and safety.

Each Lightwave catamaran is a reflection of the owner that has had it built. Each is individually unique with the personal touches incorporated to the boat fitout, inventory, or even design requirements. Lightwave Yachts allows for its production line to incorporate your needs, and build the features that are important to you into a production boat. This is as unique as it is rare as it allows you to have the best of both worlds. The confidence of knowing the facts about the design – before having a one off boat built to your standards.

With over a million nautical miles of cruising, including a world circumnavigation, the Lightwave fleet of over 80 handcrafted Lightwave Catamarans, have been recognised for many prestigious awards and race wins including Sailing Multihull of the Year 2000, 2006 Commendation Award for Sailing Boat of the Year, & 2008 Arc Atlantic Rally Winner.

Since 1996, Lightwave owners have been cruising the most renowned cruising waters in the world, conquering the Australian coastline, Pacific Islands, Louisiades, Indonesia,Malaysia, Europe, America & beyond, enjoying and sharing their TAKE ME THERE moments … moments that have us wishing “TAKE ME THERE”.

Family spirit is engaged and personalised service is delivered at Lightwave Yachts.

The Lightwave family share a sense of adventure and wanderlust, and pride in ownership. As a Lightwave owner you will be embraced as a special member of our extended family enjoying special privileges such as Lightwave Owners Regattas; joining a Lightwave Cruising Cluster to a popular remote cruising destination; or simply enjoying the opportunity to share tips, information and photos, on the Lightwave Owners Page.

Whether you are experienced or a novice when it comes to the adventure of sailing or cruising, our personal Owner’s Induction Programme will ensure you get the best from your luxury catamaran. This is delivered personally, by Roger Overell, throughout the construction of your Lightwave and particularly at the three day intensive training programme at handover, accompanied by a detailed manual of your boats equipment, systems, usage, care and maintenance details. Extensive Boat Operation lessons, Sailing lessons, or Professional  Skipper Delivery services can also be arranged to assist ease of ownership.

In addition, our Warranty Protection Plan (5 year structural, 12 months parts) and dedicated After Sales Service will ensure peace of mind in handling any situation.

Importantly, Lightwave Yachts factory is close to popular cruising destinations and yards that specialise in multihull haul out services. This ensures the Lightwave team can provide timely and effective service if required and attend to ongoing service and maintenance requirements.

Prestigious ownership privileges continue with a 24/7 on-call service offered in addition to a reliable network of international suppliers of parts and equipment.

Finally, our Buyers Referral Service is available to assist the sale of your Lightwave. The eye-catching, sleek appeal of the Lightwave and superior, proven performance, ensures excellent re-sale value with limited depreciation.

Lw45 Popup Plumbing

Plumbing System

The Lightwave 46 has 800L of fresh water & 800L of diesel, in tanks that are built directly into the hull. High quality, purpose grade materials are used in this labour intensive construction method which guarantees an extremely high-quality product that will last for the lifetime of the boat. Dual freshwater pumps provided piece of mind through redundancy. A water transfer line is built into the system to allow water to travel between either tank. Fresh water vacuum toilets that use minimal fresh water (less than 400ml per flush) are a standard feature on the Lightwave 46, eliminating the stale saltwater smell that can encroach the cabin area.  A saltwater system is also fitted to the vessel to allow an anchor wash, saltwater tap in the galley and hose in the cockpit.

L46i Engine 2

Electrical System

The Lightwave 46 is designed for self-sufficient blue water cruising. The vessel is supplied with a 12-volt DC and a 240-volt AC electrical system. A 600Ah AGM battery system is offered on the vessel with an optional 660Ah lithium-ion battery bank. There are various solar options producing up to 2000kw of power. There is also the option to have a 4Kw AC diesel generator which is coupled with the inverter to allow for a high output. All areas of the vessels electrics are designed to be easily accessible and traceable with minimal disruption to the boats systems. Electrical components on the Lightwave 46 are carefully selected to ensure a minimum power consumption is achieved. Onboard systems incorporate the latest in technology, allowing remote control and monitoring of critical power systems, battery and charging status, tank levels, bilge pumps, aerial and security CCTV as well as an array of other custom options.

Lw45 Popup Engine

Engineering Systems

The Lightwave 46 offers a very spacious area in the external engine rooms, to accommodate the standard 50hp engines & other engineering systems. All steering components as well as the optional generator are housed in the engine rooms, carefully positioned for ease of access for servicing and maintenance. The engine rooms are separated from the accommodation area with a bulkhead lined in sound dampening material to defer noise, heat and odour from entering the cabins. The engine rooms are also accessible from the inside of the boat if required.

Lw45 Popup Img

Sailing Systems

Designed with the priority for the ultimate sailing experience , t he deck layout and sail ing systems are configured for ease of handling while shorthanded. The line system on the Lightwave 4 6 has been designed so all lines are organised and accessible from an area where the sails can be easily observed. Lines all lead to the cockpit and travel under serviceable fibreglass boards which not only keep the lines organised, but also remove possible tripping hazard s . Hanging points are purposely provided creating a neat and organised place for line tails to be stored. Anderson winches and Ronstan deck gear are s uperiorly selected as standard equipment, with optional electric winches also available. A bridal main sheet system is cleverly applied to eliminate the safety concerns of a traveller car system traditionally used on catamarans.

Burling and his mates took the inside position at the start and kept their 50-foot foiling catamaran ahead of Phil Robertson of Canada and Giles Scott of Britain to win for the fifth time in 12 regattas. They still need to get through the San Francisco regatta in one piece on July 13 and 14 but will have a spot on the starting line of the three-boat Grand Final for the second straight year.

Three-time defending SailGP champion Tom Slingsby and Team Australia missed the podium race for the second straight regatta but leap-frogged Spain into second place in the season standings. The Aussies went 9-1 in Sunday’s two fleet races and finished fourth overall.

The Kiwis have exerted dominance despite a stunning setback in the season’s third regatta, when their wingsail suddenly shattered and fell into the Mediterranean minutes after they had completed the first day of racing in Saint-Tropez. They were forced to the docks for the rest of that regatta and the next regatta.

It’s not surprising the Kiwis have bounced back, considering their deep experience. Burling and wing trimmer Blair Tuke won three Olympic medals together, including one gold, and are the core of two-time defending America’s Cup champion Emirates Team New Zealand.

“I knew we had a long road ahead of us to be top of the leaderboard going into the Grand Final, missing an event, not only the points side of things but just the lack of training time, which this group has had less training time than anyone else in the whole league this season,” Burling said.

“It’s been a tough season but to just charge through that and get these wins on the board is something we’re super proud of,” he said before the crew members sprayed each other with Champagne.

The Kiwis lead the trans-Tasman Sea rival Aussies 93-78 on the season leaderboard, while Spain’s Diego Botin is third with 76 points. France is five points out of podium position, Canada and ROCKWOOL Denmark are another four points back, and the British are 10 points back.

Nothing is given in SailGP, where penalty points, a collision or a capsize can drastically affect a team’s fate.

Slingsby, an Olympic gold medalist and former America’s Cup champion, beat Burlng and Britain’s Sir Ben Ainslie in the Season 3 Grand Final in tech baron Larry Ellison’s global league. The prize money has doubled to $2 million this season for the winning crew.

Robertson had a perfectly timed start Sunday but the Canadians briefly buried one bow into the water. Burling had the inside position and forced Canada and Britain high and wide approaching the first mark to gain control.

“Awesome to get another win on the board. Really tricky conditions, really snakes and ladders, but to get three solid starts today, put together three solid races and end up winning it,” Burling said. “I’m pretty proud of the team.”
