PERFORMANCE

With lightness, sports equipment and a myriad of trimming options, these yachts are designed not only to be enjoyed by a cruising family but also to be sailed fast by an ambitious crew. Join a regatta or two and be among the first around the buoy.

COMPOSITE BULKHEADS

The composite version ensures an unbroken surface along the bulkhead and an equal distribution of mechanical loads through the cross-section. The vacuum-cured resin-impregnated biaxial fabric takes the stiffness and durability to the next level and ensures the most compact structure.

T-SHAPED KEEL

The T-shaped keel lowers the centre of gravity and enables enhanced sail-carrying power, increasing speed and stability of the yacht.

TWIN RUDDERS

Twin rudders provide exceptional control and reduce the tendency to broach. The yacht does not stall easily, as her pitching moment is reduced. The twin rudder system provides finger-tip directional control, especially when heeled.

Elan yachts were among the first production yachts to incorporate a twin-helm system, borrowing the concept from the offshore racing world. Now a staple in yacht design, the Jefa twin-wheel steering enables easy manoeuvring from both sides of the yacht while not impeding movement in the cockpit. Twin helms also introduce a new level of redundancy on your bluewater cruises, especially when paired with twin rudders.

As the only sure way to prevent osmosis, and to ensure uniform stiffness, lightness and safety, Elan was one of the first serial yacht manufacturers to adopt the Vacuum-Assisted Infusion Lamination back in 2003. VAIL enables the complete saturation of resin and removes human error from the process.

In essence, 3D VAIL technology integrates the inner yacht structure, stringers and stringer supports into the hull itself using vacuum-assisted infusion. When fully applied, this complicated and expensive process creates a one-piece laminated structure out of all the load-bearing elements of the yacht, increasing the stiffness and lightness and ensuring the best mechanical properties.

Created by a team of world-class GRP technicians, craftsmen and engineers, Elan Yachts are a level above the quality of other production yachts. Hop aboard and see the difference – unparalleled design, a solid wood finish, and attention to detail in every aspect. Durable and reliable – the true benefits of a more than 70-year-old tradition in yacht-making.

Its T-bulb keel lowers the ballast centre of gravity significantly, allowing a reduction of displacement for a given level of stability. Experienced sailor is seeking coastal cruising yacht for full time travel, planning to spend as much time as possible at anchor and will be single or double handing. The Elling series of Yachts look perfect for me, maybe start with an E3 or E4 for a couple years then move up to an E6 when I'm ready to go further. I'd really like to hear some experiences from anyone on this forum who has owned any of their boats. They don't seem to be well represented in the USA, but I haven't found any others like it. I like that they are non-flybridge, CE A rated, very solid hulls, and make great use of space. I'm not a fan of the Motor is under a Galley Cabinet situation, though. My previous boat had this and it was a PITA to work on the motor. I'd much prefer a proper engine room with, if not standing height, at least some space around the motor. But this arrangement is what gives these boats the aft cabin that I love so much... and so much accommodations for the length. I'm keen to hear about the shortcomings of these boats. I want to know if you like them overall, but everything that you don't like is much more valuable and important feedback. Pleasant surprises are not a problem , but unpleasant ones I'd like to avoid. I'm re-arranging schedule to try and make it to Miami in the hopes of seeing their boats. (Their website says they will be there, but not which models will be there.) FWIW, the things drawing me to the Elling are all performance related- love the self righting, love that its a proper offshore boat though at this stage I'm only going to do coastal cruising at the most-- maybe a hop from Florida to the Caribbean. Not in a hurry for ocean passages. Also, if you have an E3 or E4, where do you keep your dinghy? The swim platform or on the front deck? Does the E4 have the mast lowering system like the E3? Finally, the bridge clearance of the E6 seems suspiciously low. Does its mast lower as well?

I represented Elling back in 2013 and 2014 and wrote the YachtForums review on the Elling 49. The owner of Elling is a very intelligent and energetic Dutchman but has no loyalty to his sales reps. I got a lot of publicity for him, began building a loyal following, sold 2 Ellings but he cancelled his representation with me for someone who bought 2 Ellings for stock boats. I sold one of them for him. When that dealership didn't go anywhere, Elling got another rep that promised to buy new demos. In spite of my disappointment with how he does business, he builds good boats. The company support on used boats in the US is weak, but the project manager is a great guy and helps out when he can. One of the E4 owners is here onboard at YF. I'll ping him for you. Meanwhile, check out: https://www.yachtforums.com/review/elling-49-e4.22489/ Judy

As you mentioned, the boat's rated CE "A". Here's the definition of "A" from documents from that side of the pond: "A. Ocean: Designed for extended voyages where conditions may exceed wind force 8 (Beaufort scale) and significant wave heights of 4 m and above but excluding abnormal conditions, and vessels largely self-sufficient.’; The definition is amended to exclude abnormal conditions, such as hurricanes and tornadoes and extreme sea conditions or freak waves generated by abnormal conditions". Although I've not made the trip you are suggesting, the boat is up to the task. Plan accordingly. Just remember, that if you decide to run at max RPM's that 400 gallons in the tank disappears at the rate of 7/10 gallon per mile.

Oh, one more thing - the freezer compartment in the galley is pretty weak. Owner #2 of my boat had the foresight to put an ice maker and an additional freezer where the seating arrangement is, just aft of the wheelhouse on the port side. BEST ADDITION EVER!!! The wine storage below the galley deck is wonderful. Although my preference is beer, or Grand Marnier. Trust me - YOU WANT AN E4!!! Fair winds & following seas!

AQUON - AQUON One

AQUON One

The Aquon One is a hydrogen yacht, where the energy is generated through water electrolysis. This means that hydrogen is produced with the help of the energy generated by the solar cells. The hydrogen generated is stored in hydrogen tanks and used to charge the battery bank, which powers the electric motors. The combination of hydrogen and oxygen will not only lead to impressive performance but also charge the batteries. The AQUON One can achieve a speed of 20 knots and it may travel an unlimited distance at 4 to 6 knots.

AQUON uses sustainable materials in production: Wall paneling is constructed from bamboo, some walls are constructed of a combination of flax and carbon fibers, furniture is crafted from veneer, recycled leather from shoe production is used on the main floor, sustainable Portuguese cork is used in wet areas for floor and wall coverings.

The smart yacht is outfitted with innovative communication technology and high-speed internet that enables IoT devices. Even the window shading is intelligent and adjusts to the position of the sun and ambient conditions, making it very energy efficient as less energy is needed to air-condition the vessel.

To estimate the AQUON One Price , consider the cost of similar size electric yachts in this comparison and add a good premium for electrolysis and hydrogen propulsion. Remember that with this technology you can save a lot of money.

Silent Yachts - Silent 60

Silent Yachts Silent 60

Silent Yachts is the best known electric yacht manufacturer. The founding couple has achieved this primarily by building an outstanding team, parts of which are former Tesla employees, and clever marketing. Of course, they also have an advantage due to their early involvement in the field.

The Silent 60 is the next step in the evolution of the legendary Silent 64 and won “Best of Boats” awards in the category “Best for Travel”. The Silent 60 combines all of the previous model’s finest features with improved performance, a sleek design, and lower environmental impact. It can be driven by two people comfortably and has up to 4 cabins onboard based on the version (Front Master or Front Exit). The Silent 60 has an unlimited range at low speeds. If you want it faster, you can combine the solar panels’ 17 kWp output with an automatic kite.

Silent Yachts - Silent 100

Silent 100

The Silent 100 is the newest flagship from Silent Yachts. It’s the biggest yacht with electric propulsion systems and a lot of cleverly placed design accents. Marco Casali, who also designed the majority of other electric yachts in the range, created this solar electric yacht. He used curves to create a timeless design with the most optimal performance possible for this size. All of the measurements are carefully placed to enhance stability even at high speeds of up to 16 knots, but also make it extremely comfortable. The Silent 100 has four decks, with the fourth one hidden beneath the retractable part of the solar roof, and on this floor is also a landing pad. The entire solar roof generates an impressive output of up to 40 kW per hour, which supplies both the onboard power and the two 340 kW electric motors.

For water toys and tenders there are also two tender garages. One between the two hulls, where can store a tender of up to 7,50m, and one smaller garage in the side-loading garage in the portside hull.

Soel Yachts - Soel Senses 48

Soel Senses 48 by Soel Yachts

The Soel Senses 48 has enough room for up to 12 people in a comparable small, yet spacious, size of 14.50m. Each of the two cabins, one in each hull, is paired with a bathroom. A versatile sleeping area in the salon can further accommodate up to four people. The optimum cruising speed for this electric yacht is 10 knots, but you can reach a top speed of 18 knots. At 10 knots, the largest battery package can travel a distance of 56 nm. The electric propulsion system is from Naval DC (both motor and battery). With shore power, the battery pack may be charged at up to 18 kW when the 2.7 kWp output of the solar roof isn’t enough.

Soel Senses 48 by Soel Yachts from behind

Soel Yachts - Soel Senses 62

Soel Senses 62

Soel Yachts’ Soel Senses 62 is designed in a timeless style that will most likely never go out of style, like sustainability. This solar electric yacht has a dynamic elegance with refined interior design and a beautiful exterior silhouette. The salon extends almost the whole width of the vessel, allowing for lots of natural light inside. The rooms combine to form a well-integrated design that provides enough seclusion in the private cabins. A spacious master suite, two guest cabins, and a kids cabin offer plenty of space for a memorable holiday with family and friends. There’s also a separate crew cabin with its own entry. There are also optional diesel generators for longer trips, such as a trans-ocean journey, to ensure that you have enough electricity. When the conditions aren’t optimal to reach the full 17.6 kWp output of the solar panels.

Soel Senses 62 from behind

Solarimpact Yacht - The SWATH Yacht

The SWATH Yacht from Solarimpact Yacht surprises with its unique shape. Not only the S.W.A.T.H hull shape, but the whole design of the yacht looks very futuristic and it is easy to see here that this is a vision. A vision that may not make it onto the water in this form, as it is, unfortunately, the case with many concept vehicles. Unfortunately, because we would like to see the vision become a reality as it brings creative design to the 80-foot electric yacht sector since most of them are just larger versions of smaller yachts.

Solarimpact Yacht - CAT 80

Compared to the SWATH yacht, the CAT 80 is a more set variant with the same length. Externally a very simple catamaran design is used, in the interior similar options are available as in the SWATH yacht. This creates elegance on a completely different basis.

Sunreef Yachts - 60 Sunreef Power Eco

Sunreef Yachts has a special approach to the placement of solar panels. This is because not only the roof is covered with solar panels, but also the outside of the hulls of the catamaran and all other non-walkable surfaces are covered. In addition, there is the possibility of equipping the yacht with wind turbines to use the energy for the electric motors. The energy is then temporarily stored in the ultra-light battery bank. They use recyclable and ethical materials (such as linen, basalt, reclaimed teak flooring or antifouling with silicon)for their ECO Line. Sunreef Yachts’ Eco line is based on the yachts with combustion engine. This not only allows Sunreef to save costs in development, but also benefits through targeted selection of Brand Ambassadors. For example, Rafael Nadal’s yacht the Great White is a 80 Sunreef Power, so not an ECO yacht like the one Nico Rosberg is getting.

See more in this video:

The 60 Sunreef Power Eco Yacht offers a solar output of 14 kWp due to the placement of the solar panels, has two 180 kW electric motors on board with a battery bank of up to 320 kW. The electric catamaran can accommodate up to 12 people and 4 crew members.

Sunreef Yachts - 70 Sunreef Power Eco

The 70 Sunreef Power Eco Yacht is the bigger version of the 60. Therefore is a lot more room in this model.

Sunreef Yachts - 80 Sunreef Power Eco

The 80 Sunreef Power Eco Yacht is the larger brother of the 70. With more length and a wider beam.

The Rise of E-Boat Technology

  • By Kim Kavin
  • November 3, 2023

Silent Yacht from above

John Vo knows nil about boats. He says it’s ideal for an e-boat builder. “People ask us what experience we have, and I say, ‘Zip. Nothing. Zero,’” says Vo, whose team at Blue Innovations Group is preparing to launch its first electric boat, the R30, this autumn. “But you can’t use the same people from the same industry to revolutionize themselves.”

Vo, the former head of manufacturing for Tesla, is just one among many minds trying to bring electric-powered boats into widespread production. So many longtime boatbuilders are transitioning from internal-combustion to electric power , and so many other builders are popping up anew, that the president of the American Boat and Yacht Council says his agency’s safety experts are being “bombarded” with requests about technology that’s changing by the day. E-boat prototypes and launches are coming from long-standing marine brands such as Chris-Craft (the Launch 25 GTe) and Four Winns (the H2e) at the same time that newer brands are promising everything from an electric dayboat (the Blue Innovations R30) to a catamaran with world-cruising capability, but without generators or fuel tanks (the Zen50).

And as the boats get bigger than about 30 feet length overall, trying to understand all the different ways they can work becomes even more of a challenge.

Blue Innovations Group R30

“I expect, in the nautical industry, we will have full-electric propulsion, but we can expect hybrid energy,” says Michael Jost, founder of eD-TEC, an electric-propulsion system that will be on the Silent Speed 28 tender at the Cannes Yachting Festival this autumn. “There will be smaller boats that can run fully electric, and the bigger boats will have fully electric propulsion but hybrid energy.”

Before joining the marine community, Jost was a manager at Volkswagen, helping to lead its transition to electric power in vehicles. He says the recreational marine industry today is where automotive was decades ago: filled with ideas and trying to learn what the broader marketplace solutions will be. The difference between automotive and marine, he says, is that with marine, you can go from displacement to gliding to foiling.

That’s right: Foiling technology that lifts boats off the water’s surface is also part of e-boat thinking today—so are wing sails, which most boaters recognize as part of the high-tech builds used for America’s Cup racing. And, of course, there’s ever more ways to install solar power, which can help recharge the banks of batteries that make electric boats go.

eD-QDrive from eD-TEC

Every possible idea is on the table, Jost says, because the way cruising boats have always been built just isn’t efficient enough for the switch to e-power, which includes heavy batteries that weigh boats down. “The boats of today are not true,” Jost says. “If you have a bad boat, you don’t see it. You put more power, more gasoline inside, and then you are happy. But if you go electric, you are not happy because you don’t get the range. The boat has to be much more efficient than an internal-combustion boat—and the boat business does not want to change the hull. That’s why we are looking to support builders working with the hydrodynamic foils.”

Vo says his team at Blue Innovations Group is also trying to think differently about boat design: Forget about the hulls that traditional molds were built to create, and wonder instead about what might be possible from scratch. “In the old days, anybody who came to Tesla with a long automotive resume, we threw it in the trash,” Vo says. “Otherwise, you’ve got these people with a lot of experience, and they can overwhelm you. Instead of building your vision, they will try to assimilate you, and you revolutionize nothing. You just add another mediocre company. It’s difficult but necessary for us not to hire anybody with boat experience until we reach a critical mass and launch the product. At that point, we’d be stupid not to incorporate their experience into our process.”

Zen Yachts Zen50

Then again, brands with marine experience are also trying to lead. At Mercury Marine, vice president of e-solutions Perissa Bailey—who previously was director of technology at Ford Motor Co.—says it’s understood that electric boats are still in the phase of early adopters, with companies trying to figure out exactly what consumers want. One thing they know for sure at Mercury Marine, she says: “They don’t want to compromise the time they spend on the water. In the early electrification days in automotive, there were a lot of questions about range anxiety. It forced consumers to think about how many miles they drive a day and what’s the cost of ownership for an electric vehicle for that many miles. We’re going through that same learning curve in marine. Customers are saying, ‘If my leisure boating activity typically consists of this many hours on the water, I don’t want to compromise that just because I go electric. And if there’s a series of activities I do, if I’m [riding on a PWC] or fishing or whatever I do, I don’t want to compromise those either if I go electric. I don’t want to have to adapt my usage pattern to a technology. I want the technology to adapt to that usage pattern.’”

The trick is that the technological solution for a boater who wants to cruise to dinner and back is likely to be far different from the solution for a boater who wants to cruise off the grid for months, says Julien Melot, CEO and designer at Zen Yachts, which is preparing to launch the Zen50 catamaran. It has solar power, along with a wingsail, with the latter adding the long-distance range that previous models lacked. “The last boat was great for coastal cruising, but I would not have sold it to a family that wants to cross the Pacific. If it gets cloudy or overcast, the laws of physics apply, and you won’t have enough power to escape the storm,” Melot says. “On the Zen50, with the addition of the wingsail, that problem is solved.”

As with some of the other brands in the e-boat space, Zen Yachts is seeing early adopters who don’t necessarily fit the profile of traditional boaters. “Our client base is not experienced sailors,” he says. “They are more attracted by the fact that you are self-reliant. If the world collapses one more time, they know they can take their boat out, and they’ll be fine.”

Silent-Resorts location

And some leaders in this space are already thinking past the boats. They’re focusing instead on where boaters will want to go, as more styles of e-boats take to the water. Silent-Resorts, which is affiliated with the catamaran builder Silent-Yachts, is now creating destinations to harness electric power and make recharging easy for all types of boats, no matter what comes next. The first location, in the Bahamas, is scheduled to finish construction later this year, with build-out starting on the second location, in Fiji, around that same time. “We’re talking with all the builders,” says Victor Barrett, CEO of Silent-Resorts. “We’re setting up in areas where cruising is popular, and we’re setting up the micro grid that connects the marinas, facilities and residences. If you have a house that’s not occupied, all that power is going into the central grid so the boats can plug in, charge fast and go. The boats can feed power into the island as well. We’ll be the first company in multiple locations to have Silent-Marinas ready to accept electric boats.”

All these advancements, of course, are far from inexpensive. The cost of a Blue Innovations Group R30 is about $300,000. The Silent Speed 28, Jost says, is likely to retail for about 500,000 euros (that was about $550,000 at press time). “The batteries are expensive,” Jost says. “You need new software. You have to develop it. And you have to make it lightweight. It might take about five years for the price to come down.” Until then, expect to pay as much as $440,000 to $660,000 for e-boats up to about 30 feet length overall, he adds. “It’s double what you pay for an outboard system, but the scale of combustion comes from the automotive industry, so if that industry loses scale by going electric, you will also lose that scale for the nautical industry on combustion.”

And the people buying e-boats right now often care more about innovation than prices. Melot says four Zen50 catamarans have been sold. The first and third are going to the East and West coasts in the United States; the other two are headed to Europe. Three of the four clients are Tesla shareholders. “Typically, the clients already have an electric car, they already have solar panels on their home, and the next thing they can buy is an electric boat,” he says, adding that for these folks, electric power is the top consideration. “They don’t want to hear about a yacht that has diesel on board.”

Torqeedo’s Deep Blue 100i 2500

Torqeedo’s Deep Blue 100i 2500 is an inboard system that provides 100 kW of continuous power for planing powerboats. It’s made with the same type of lithium batteries that are now found in some cars, but with components that are waterproof and that come with monitoring to guard against short circuits. The company offers a nine-year warranty for boats in private use, with the hope that the long guarantee will help customers feel secure about the type of power. Torqeedo also markets Deep Blue as low-maintenance and emission-free.

Taking Orders Now

Blue Innovations Group is taking reservations for the R30, which is expected to cost about $300,000. Customers who put down $5,000 can get one of the first 100 hulls. For $1,000, customers can be next in line after that. As of this writing, more than 50 reservations were in hand.

For Day Cruising

While some e-boat builders are trying to solve design challenges for long-distance cruising, Blue Innovations Group is starting with a dayboat. The 30-foot R30 will have the capacity to carry 12 people with an estimated run time of eight hours and a top hop of 39 knots.

X Shore 1 drive system

Even Stronger

Swedish e-boat builder X Shore recently announced a partnership with the German company Bosch Engineering to improve the performance and efficiency on the drive system aboard the 21-foot X Shore 1. Bosch’s background is in passenger cars, commercial vehicles, RVs, rail, ships and other industries. This partnership marks Bosch’s first foray into the world of e-boats for leisure use. The goal of the partnership is to share series production experience as well as proven high-performance components from the automotive world.

Floating Solar Concept

The team working on creating Silent-Resorts is talking with government officials in Fiji about deploying a floating ring that collects rainwater and generates solar power as an eco-friendly way to address two of the biggest challenges that hamper island development. Eventually, a similar system may also launch in the Bahamas.

California yacht owner threatens to kill dock worker in vicious showdown, cali yacht owner threatens to kill dock worker drops pants for rude salute, 95 3/13/2024 8:09 am pt.

A California yacht owner's vicious beef with a dock worker has reached death-threat levels -- and their exchange was caught on camera and included a nude, and very rude, gesture!

Check out the clip ... it all unfolds when San Diego entrepreneur Ajay Thakore swings by the swanky Marriott Marquis Marina in his rare $4.5M Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 yacht to pick up one of his employees -- but things boil over when dock worker Joseph Holt tells him he can't be there.

Thakore, the CEO of medical advertising firm Doctor Multimedia, flips out on Holt big time ... and starts spewing threats like, "I will kill you, you know I will kill you, I will kill."

And it doesn't stop there -- as Thakore's pulling out of the harbor, he drops trou to make a full frontal salute in Holt's direction. Stay classy, San Diego!

Holt's only retaliation was flipping the bird, and he later told CBS8 that was all he could do to keep his cool and avoid escalating the situation.

Holt says parts of the altercation were not captured on camera, and he adds ... Thakore not only threatened to kill him, but also claimed to have connections who could totally mess up his life.

Holt also says Thakore pulled out $100 bills and tossed them at him, even chucking some in the water.

BTW, Thakore's done some backpedaling since the ugly exchange -- he now says, "The interaction that occurred yesterday was regrettable. What started as a minor misunderstanding escalated into an argument, and I apologize for my actions and to those who witnessed the unfortunate exchange."

Waiting for your permission to load the Instagram Media.

FWIW ... One of Thakore’s employees claims the whole thing began because other dock workers blocked him from boarding the yacht.

Oh, and if that fancy Lambo yacht looks familiar -- it's the same one Chuck Liddell recently tumbled off just last month. Now it's famous AND infamous!

The superyacht world is speculating that Mark Zuckerberg just bought this 118-meter boat

  • The 118-meter superyacht Launchpad made her maiden voyage last week.
  • The yacht world is speculating that her owner is Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
  • Here's what we know about the luxury vessel.

Insider Today

In the world of superyachts , privacy is the most valuable asset. It can be next to impossible to discern the details of a superyacht transaction — and that's particularly true if the vessel in question is worth nine figures.

Yet some in the boat blogging world are speculating that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is the new owner of Launchpad, a megayacht currently moored in Fort Lauderdale, Florida after she made her maiden voyage from Gibraltar to St Maarten last week. Launchpad clocks in at 118 meters long, about nine meters shorter than Jeff Bezos' superyacht Koru .

The transaction could not be confirmed, with yacht world insiders declining to share what they know and representatives for Zuckerberg not responding to a request for comment from Business Insider. In the past, reports about Zuckerberg owning superyacht Ulysses have proven false.

Related stories

"It is Feadship's standard policy to never divulge any information about our yachts with reference to ownership, costs, or delivery, etc," Feadship, the ship's builder, wrote to BI. "Whether it is an 18-meter Feadship from the 1960s or a 118-meter Feadship from the 21st century, we do not share private information."

But Zuckerberg's name has been connected to Launchpad for a few months now, beginning in December when reports swirled that he visited Feadship's shipyard in the Netherlands.

Then, earlier in March, yachting bloggers like eSysman SuperYachts and Autoevolution started speculating that he officially snagged the boat, originally built for a sanctioned Russian businessman, at a $300 million price tag. (While that's a seemingly huge amount, it's still less than 0.2% of Zuckerberg's $177 billion net worth.)

Another clue that might point to US ownership is that the yacht bears the flag of the Marshall Islands, a US territory and commonplace for American buyers to register their ships, according to public marine tracking.

If Zuckerberg were to have bought Launchpad, he would join a cohort of superyacht-owning tech billionaires . Along with Bezos, the likes of Oracle cofounder Larry Ellison and Google cofounders Sergey Brin and Larry Page have purchased impressive boats with even more impressive amenities.

SuperYacht Times , an industry publication and intelligence platform, has some of the best images of the yacht. Photos show a swimming pool on her main deck and a large helipad.

While less is known of the interior, a vessel of her size can likely sleep dozens of guests and crew and may have amenities like an expansive gym where Zuckerberg could practice his jiu-jitsu or a spa with a massage area. We suspect there's also space for plenty of toys — which could include his viral hydrofoil foil .

Do you have any details about Launchpad or any other superyachts? Email reporter Madeline Berg at [email protected].

Judge Denies Trump’s Request to Delay Due Date of $83.3 Million Penalty

The money or a bond is due Monday as Donald J. Trump faces a daunting array of legal and financial challenges.

  • Share full article

Donald Trump at a defendant’s table.

By Benjamin Weiser and Ben Protess

A federal judge in Manhattan on Thursday declined Donald J. Trump’s request to temporarily block the writer E. Jean Carroll from collecting an $83.3 million civil defamation judgment against him while the judge considers his request for a longer delay.

The ruling, only four paragraphs long, comes just days before Ms. Carroll will be allowed to begin taking action to collect her award, one of two civil judgments totaling more than half a billion dollars that the former president is seeking to delay while he pursues appeals in both cases.

Seeking to block Ms. Carroll from collecting on March 11, the former president last month asked the judge, Lewis A. Kaplan of Federal District Court, to push back the due date until after he had ruled on Mr. Trump’s request to have the verdict thrown out and be granted a new trial.

On Wednesday, the former president’s lawyers made a new request: that the judge not let Ms. Carroll begin to collect until the judge has ruled on Mr. Trump’s earlier request for a delay.

But on Thursday, the judge — who presided over Ms. Carroll’s trial, which ended Jan. 26 — said in an order that Mr. Trump’s professed need for a so-called administrative stay was the former president’s own fault.

“Mr. Trump’s current situation is a result of his own dilatory actions,” Judge Kaplan wrote. “He has had since Jan. 26 to organize his finances.”

Mr. Trump’s lawyer, Alina Habba, did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the ruling. Ms. Carroll’s lawyer, Roberta A. Kaplan, declined to comment.

The fight over the judgment is just one of many legal and financial entanglements the former president is facing. He faces four criminal prosecutions, with the first trial beginning March 25 in Manhattan. And as he faces the prospect of time behind bars, he also must find the money to satisfy the judgments against him.

In a separate case, Mr. Trump faces a judgment of more than $450 million levied by a New York State judge in a civil fraud lawsuit brought by Attorney General Letitia James. The judge, Arthur F. Engoron, sided with Ms. James, concluding that Mr. Trump had fraudulently inflated his net worth to reap favorable loan terms and other financial benefits.

To prevent Ms. James from seizing his assets while he appeals Justice Engoron’s ruling, Mr. Trump must either come up with the more than $450 million or secure a bond from an outside company. The same requirement applies to the $83.3 million judgment in the defamation case.

The bond is a promise from the company offering it to cover Mr. Trump’s judgment if he loses his appeal and fails to pay. In exchange, Mr. Trump must pay the company a fee and pledge collateral, including as much cash as possible.

Mr. Trump recently asked a state appeals court to accept only a $100 million bond in the civil fraud case. It would be “impossible” to obtain a bond for the full amount, which is $454 million and counting with interest, Mr. Trump’s lawyers said.

A single appeals court judge turned down his request , but Mr. Trump can try again next month with a full panel of five appellate court judges.

Unless that panel cuts him a break, Mr. Trump will need to post a bond for the full amount by March 25, the day his first criminal trial begins.
