About International Finn Class

This singlehanded boat was designed specifically for the Olympics and requires sailors to be average size or above. The fiberglass hull is built to very tight tolerances ensuring a strict one design shape. Well maintained boats from the 1990’s are still competitive and win national events. The high technology, un-stayed carbon fiber mast is available in different degrees of flexibility to suit the sailor’s physical capabilities and allow a wider range of heights and weights to be competitive. The Finn performs very well in both light air, making it ideally suited for small lakes, and is robust enough to be sailed in extreme conditions.

The class culture and community has been best expressed by sailing legend Gus Miller:

“Without a lot of friends, you cannot have good racing, nor can you have good practice, nor can you have an intensely enjoyable time that leaves your life richer. Finn sailors share the knowledge that even if you master yourself, you can never master the boat – it is too subtle to accomplish this.

Finn sailors try to outwork each other, destroy the others on the water with that hard work, then come ashore in sharing the resulting intense adversity. This generates a kind of love that then gets shared with newcomers who will receive lots of help in figuring things out.”

The Finn is a single-handed boat for heavy weights, it is very powerful, you need weight, and strength on the abseil to lead it as soon as the wind rises a little. It is therefore mainly an adult dinghy for male sailors.

This boat, which has qualities of finesse at the helm that do not leave one indifferent, has obtained the recognition of being the support for the Olympic Games in the category: solo male dinghy.

The Finn has been able to modernise and take advantage of technological advances in the field of composite materials.

It is now possible to rig the Finn with a light and flexible mast allowing lighter sailors to enjoy the pleasure of the Finn and lighter sailors to give the "heavyweights" a hard time.

Finn dinghy second hand market:

The Finn has been produced in large numbers since the 1950s. For a very leisurely activity at a time when even Lanaverre produced them. However, for the last 20 years or so, the Finn has been used almost exclusively for racing. The builders of this model of dinghies with non-monotype class rules have proposed more optimised and more performing boats.

Thus, you can find old boats for cruising for less than 1000 €. On the other hand, modern boats are much more expensive (sometimes 15000€). These competition models are often built by Devotti or Pata.

Aqua Finn Daysailer

The Aqua Finn is an ideal performance daysailer for use by both the inexperienced sailor and the seasoned skipper. It is designed for multi-person use or family situations where a durable, simple sailing craft is desired.

The Aqua Finn is an exciting accomplishment in the world of small daysailers. It is designed for the sailor seeking sailing performance, simplicity, and durability. This is the ideal boat for training, rental, or resort use with features not available in other competitive daysailers of this size and price range:

• A cockpit large enough to accommodate two adults with an adjustable hiking strap and an aft cockpit drain.
• A spring loaded kick up rudder system which is designed to hold the rudder blade in a locked down position yet will kick up when beaching.
• A high strength rudder head with poly blade and tiller extension
• Rudder lift system to raise or lower the rudder blade from the cockpit.

The high performance hull design features a high entry bow with a roll "v", which is designed to lift the bow of the Aqua Finn through the waves and allow for greater performance from the planing hull.

The hull is constructed of handlaid fiberglass utilizing a sandwich core of "coremat". This type of construction generates stiffness in both hull and deck not normally achieved through conventional fiberglass layups. In addition, the stiffness of the "coremat" construction is light weight which makes the boat faster and easier to transport by cartop.

The deck design includes a molded in splash rail and a roll cap joint which bonds the hull deck with a 90 degree joint. The gunnel joint includes a black vinyl rub rail that is thru-bolted every four inches to achieve a superior bond of the hull and deck.

The seventy-five square foot multi-colored sail incorporates sail sleeves for both booms to achieve maximum sail pocket control.

Standard equipment includes Harken pulley blocks on the boom and in the cockpit for mainsheet control. An optional feature is the Harken Swivel Cam Cleat.

This boat is offered in an off white hull color with multi-color accent striping and a choice of three sail colors.
