delta riverboats tours

There are plenty of great resorts in the South, and Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center is an impressive one. Located in Nashville just a stone's throw from the Grand Ole Opry, the resort is made up of three atriums—and there's a river running through it.

The waterway constructed in the resort winds through the Delta Atrium, the largest conservatory in the resort. It's a leafy space with shops, restaurants, and a riverboat tour. Even if you can't visit in person, you can take a 360-degree tour of Gaylord Opryland Resort's indoor river via a video set atop one of the attraction's flatboats. Take a virtual ride on the Delta Boat Tour, which you can find available on the Gaylord Hotels YouTube page and also embedded below.

The short video is led by a tour guide, Gina, who acts as the captain of the boat as she points out notable features in the hotel. All the while, the boat floats through the scenic river that curves through the resort's 4.5-acre Delta Atrium and indoor garden, traveling under bridges, past waterfalls and balconies, and around trees, buildings, and other attractions. Because it's a 360-degree video, you can click and drag your cursor around the video to see all the angles from the camera's position atop the flatboat.

During the tour, you'll learn some facts about the resort and hear about some of the natural features of the atrium, including a bonsai willow, which is the tiniest tree in the resort, and the many fish that live in the river, including catfish, carp, bluegill, and two Japanese koi named Romeo and Juliet.

It's a small taste of the experience, but the short video will transport you for just a moment to the fun of Gaylord Opryland and the relaxing flatboat tour that's become a favorite attraction at the resort. You can find more information about the resort at marriott.com .

Have you ever visited Gaylord Opryland Resort in Nashville? Where's the first place you'll plan a trip to once it's safe to travel widely again?

Gaylord Opryland has a manmade river running through it, so you gotta ride on the Delta Riverboat to get the full resort experience. The boat ride lasts about 15 minutes, goes slow enough but isn't too slow, and it's a good activity for all ages. We've been on this boat ride a few times. The first time was just a general ride, where we went around the river and the boat driver told us some trivia about the hotel. He pointed out things, such as a red line that indicated where the water level rose to in the hotel during a particularly bad storm many years ago. Throughout the year, they'll offer themed boat rides, like a Pirates & Princesses boat ride, with costumed actors you meet along the way. We also got some treasure at the end (a chocolate gold coin)! There are lots of fun things for individuals and families to do at Gaylord Opryland, and this is one of them.

We loved this boat ride, our tour guide was wonderful. When we bought tickets, the girl said you get a discount if you are staying at the resort. We were staying across the street and did pay a resort fee, so the guide said we should get the discount. The clerk really didn't want to give us $3 off our ride, but our friendly guide insisted. There are waterfalls and so many beautiful trees and plants in Opryland and this is a great way to see it. Great for adults and kids.

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

Meet the Delta Captain Who Spent a Year's Salary Chartering an Airbus to Take 112 Friends on a Retirement Flight to Hawaii "You don't want to be the richest man in the graveyard one day."

By Pete Syme • Mar 18, 2024

Key Takeaways

  • Keith Rosenkranz chartered a Delta A330 for his retirement with 112 friends and family.
  • He invited pilots who missed their last flight due to the pandemic and renewed his vows with his wife.
  • Chartering the plane cost him a "good year's salary," Rosenkranz told BI.

This article originally appeared on Business Insider .

Keith Rosenkranz went to high school next to the north runway at Los Angeles International Airport.

"On rainy days, I would sit in the second-story window of my high school, and just watch the planes take off and land," he told Business Insider. "And that was kind of a dream that I wanted to do that one day."

Throughout his 33 years as a Delta Air Lines pilot , Rosenkranz would dip the plane's wing toward his alma mater everytime he took off from LAX.

"There might be a young boy or young girl that's sitting in that window that's dreaming of flying just the way I did," he said.

On February 28, the 64-year-old dipped the wing of an Airbus A330neo for the last time as part of what might just be the coolest retirement party ever.

After 16 months of planning, Rosenkranz chartered the widebody jet from Delta to transport 112 friends and family.

Aviation news sites including Simple Flying and One Mile at a Time reported on the charter after it gained attention on X.

Captain Rosenkranz, Delta A330-900 pilot, went all out for his retirement celebration! ?✈️ Chartering his own A330neo, he whisked his family and friends off to Hawaii for a whirlwind 24-hour adventure! #aviation #avgeek #planespotting pic.twitter.com/JwmZevJ75F — AIRLINE VIDEOS (@airlinevideos) February 28, 2024

Delta's A330-900 has 281 seats, although Rosenkranz said he chose the number of guests because he used a transportation company with two buses that could seat 56 people.

Passengers came from different stages of his life: from grade school through to college and the Air Force, Delta coworkers, and Texas neighbors.

Rosenkranz told BI he got the idea in October 2022 because many of his coworkers' retirements were disrupted by the pandemic.

"Going back to when we were dealing with COVID, a lot of the pilots didn't get a final flight that they wanted," he said. "We canceled so many flights to Europe. One of my buddies, all he could fly was Atlanta to Orlando and back. He got one ticket for his wife, and that was it."

He called a friend in Delta's charter division with the idea, who told him: "Nobody's ever done that before."

Rosenkranz managed to negotiate a lower price than was first offered, after pointing out he was an employee rather than a professional sports team like its usual customers.

He told BI it cost him "a good year's salary," but added: "You can't put a price on something that was that big. You think about being able to go out that way and take all your family and friends on a whirlwind journey. You don't want to be the richest man in the graveyard one day."

Dallas to LA to Hawaii

Rosenkranz described the trip as "very emotional," especially when he and his family arrived at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport about 6 a.m.

"There are 50-some people in the gate area, and I just broke down," he told BI.

"Then when we got out to the jet and they had it all decorated with pictures and other things, that was emotional a second time," he added.

In Los Angeles, the jet was welcomed with a water cannon salute, which has become rarer due to the city's water restrictions. Rosenkranz told BI he was only the second pilot in nine years to receive the honor.

The trip went on to Hawaii. It needed four pilots because regulations prohibit flying both a domestic and ocean-crossing trip in one day.

Rosenkranz told BI he met the pilot who served as his first officer on the trip when they were 16-year-old box boys at Safeway.

In Hawaii, he and his wife, Colette, renewed their wedding vows.

"When I met her on August 22, 1977, I was wearing a yellow Hawaiian shirt. And the girl that introduced me to my wife was part of the guest list," Rosenkranz said.

"So I had her come up, and I had given her that yellow shirt. And so I'm taking off my current shirt, and putting on this yellow one. And then I invited Colette up, and she was very surprised and excited."

A passion for flying

By chance, Rosenkranz's last flight with Delta happened to fall on the anniversary of his last flight on an F-16 fighter jet, in 1991.

Before becoming a commercial pilot, he served in the Air Force where he flew 30 combat missions.

At Delta, he met a Vietnam War veteran who encouraged him to write a memoir after hearing his stories from the Gulf War. "Vipers in the Storm" was published by Aviation Week in 1999.

For the charter, one of his friends made a cut-out of Rosenkranz from the book's cover.

Delta pilot Keith Rosenkranz poses with a large cut-out of himself as a fighter pilot in the Air Force.

Rosenkranz told BI how he writes back to readers who become inspired to join the military. He became good friends with one, named Isaac, who ended up in his same Air Force squadron. Years later, they ended up piloting the same Delta A320 .

Rosenkranz's passion for flying is palpable as he smiles recounting past flights: "I've been all over the Far East. I've been to Moscow. I've been all over Europe. I've been down to South America. And I had a window seat the entire time."

The pilot recalled how he gives talks at schools, and always asks the kids when they think he last worked.

"I say I haven't worked since 1983 when I was at Safeway supermarket. Ever since then, I've been getting paid to fly jets."

'Guaranteed to see the eclipse': A plane might be the best place to see the phenomenon

delta riverboats tours

Travelers flying on April 8 may have a chance to see the total solar eclipse from the sky.

Delta Air Lines is running two special flights to chase the path of totality, but many carriers, including Southwest and United, are advertising the regularly scheduled itineraries they have with the best chance of seeing the daytime darkness.

According to Stephen Lawrence, a professor of physics and astronomy at Hofstra University, seeing the eclipse from a plane comes with some extra benefits but also a few challenges.

Much of the path of totality in the U.S. has a 60%-80% chance of cloud cover on the ground, with Texas being the most likely location for clear skies. On a plane, Lawrence said, “You can generally fly high enough to be above the clouds, so you’re guaranteed to see the eclipse.”

But, he warned, just being on the plane isn’t always enough.

“You have to be on the correct side of the plane,” Lawrence said. “People on the right side of the plane, the south-facing side of the plane, will be able to see it,” but those on the north side won’t.

Watch from there parks: You can see the total solar eclipse from national parks, but their skies offer much more

If you’re flying in an easterly direction, you’ll want to be on the right-hand side when facing forward or the left-hand side if your flight path is heading westerly.

Lawrence said eastbound flights have an added bonus for eclipse viewing, too.

“You’re slowing the shadow down by half. Instead of a 4 ½-minute eclipse, you might get a six-minute region of totality,” he said, explaining that because planes cruise at around 500 mph and the shadow of the eclipse moves at about 1,000 mph, chasing it across the sky means you can see it for longer than you’d be able to as a stationary observer on the ground.

He added the higher vantage point from a flight means travelers will have a better view of the shadow approaching than those on the ground.

Whether you’re watching from the ground or the sky, Lawrence said it’s important to take appropriate precautions.

“The most important thing, of course, is eye safety. It is safe to look at the eclipse with the naked eye but only during the few minutes of totality,” he said.

Which airlines are advertising eclipse flights?

Delta has scheduled two special flights to see the path of the eclipse and added that some of its regular itineraries also have a high likelihood of crossing the shadow. United Airlines and Southwest Airlines also said they have flights that will likely encounter the path of totality.

Here’s what’s on offer:

◾ From Detroit (DTW) to Westchester, New York (HPN), departing at 2:59 p.m. EDT.

◾ From Los Angeles (LAX) to Dallas (DFW), departing at 8:40 a.m. PDT.

◾ From Los Angeles (LAX) to San Antonio (SAT), departing at 9:00 a.m. PDT.

◾ From Salt Lake City (SLC) to San Antonio (SAT), departing at 10:08 a.m. MDT.

◾ From Salt Lake City (SLC) to Austin (AUS), departing at 9:55 a.m. MDT.

◾ Flight 1252: departing Dallas (Love Field) at 12:45 p.m. CDT for Pittsburgh

◾ Flight 1721: departing Austin at 12:50 p.m. CDT for Indianapolis

◾ Flight 1910: departing St. Louis at 1:20 p.m. CDT for Houston (Hobby)

◾ Flight 5693 departs Chicago for Little Rock at 12:45 p.m. CDT

◾ Flight 490 departs Chicago for Houston at 12:47 p.m. CDT

◾ Flight 455 departs Chicago for Dallas at 12:49 p.m. CDT

◾ Flight 247 departs Chicago for Toronto at 1 p.m. CDT

◾ Flight 2440 departs Chicago for New York at 1 p.m. CDT

◾ Flight 2187 departs Chicago for Washington, D.C., at 1:20 p.m. CDT

◾ Flight 1438 departs Houston for San Jose del Cabo at 11:55 a.m. CDT

◾ Flight 6128 departs Houston for Columbus at noon CDT

◾ Flight 6109 departs Houston for Detroit at 12:05 p.m. CDT

◾ Flight 1318 departs Houston for Cincinnati at 12:23 p.m. CDT

◾ Flight 1687 departs Houston for Indianapolis at 12:25 p.m. CDT

But it’s not just airlines with flights through the path of totality that are seeing eclipse-related travel demand pick up. Alaska Airlines is seeing extra demand for flights to Austin, Dallas and San Antonio, Texas, as well as Cleveland – destinations that should have good opportunities for eclipse viewing on the ground. An Alaska spokesperson told USA TODAY the airline previously added an extra flight to Mazatlán, Mexico, which is expected to have the longest duration totality during this eclipse. According to the spokesperson, there’s especially high demand for tickets to Mazatlán too.

Delta River Boat Tour Nice

I wasn't sure that I wanted to spend the money to take this tour (about $10/person including tax if you're not staying at the hotel--not sure how much if you are). The tour was very interesting & it's absolutely beautiful in there. I would recommend doing it once while you're in the area.

I did not dislike anything about this, it is a must see if you are in Nashville. We went in the early morning very peaceful

only went on the tour because they offered a great military discount for which we are grateful. it was a very nice ride through beautiful scenery and the guide was very informative and friendly. we learned things we didn't know about the hotel. was worth what we paid.

Had the experience of visiting for one day. With a short time in Nashville, I have to say that the boat ride was a lot of fun. Some people told us that it was too pricey, but we enjoyed it. Not a long ride but worth it. The GRand Ole Opry was amazing. A city in its own! Anyone visiting Nashville, should not miss a stop here!

Great short tour and very informational! Everyone that works there is very pleasant! We enjoy our tour and the guide!

We heard we needed to do the boat ride. 4 adults and 2 kids was $56.81 and literally the ride was about 8 minutes. Takes you thru a round a small circle that's it. Then if you want a picture it is another $20. Save your money for something else. What a rip off!!!

Delta will resume daily nonstop service to Tel Aviv (TLV) from New York-JFK this summer, operating the route on an Airbus A330-900neo that will provide customers with nearly 2,000 weekly seats from New York to Israel.

The decision to resume the route on June 7, 2024, which was temporarily suspended in October 2023, follows an extensive security risk assessment by the airline. Delta continues to closely monitor the situation in Israel in conjunction with government and private-sector partners.

In recent months, Delta has strengthened its presence in Israel through a codeshare arrangement with EL AL Israel Airlines. Delta customers have access to EL AL’s direct services to Tel Aviv from major U.S. cities like New York-JFK, New York-Newark, Boston, Los Angeles, Miami and Fort Lauderdale. With the upcoming reinstatement of Delta’s New York-JFK service this summer, customers have additional travel choices connecting North America and Israel.

Delta boots non-ticketed passenger from flight after he tried hiding in plane’s bathrooms: report

A non-ticketed passenger was reportedly removed from a Delta Air Lines flight set to take off from Salt Lake City earlier this week after trying to hide in two of the plane’s bathrooms, a report says.

A Delta spokesperson told FOX Business on Wednesday that the airline is now "cooperating with law enforcement and relevant federal agencies regarding an investigation into a non-ticketed individual being escorted off an aircraft in Salt Lake City prior to a scheduled departure."

The incident involving Flight 1683 from Salt Lake City to Austin, Texas, on Sunday led to the arrest of 26-year-old Wicliff Fleurizard of George, Texas, CBS News is reporting, citing a criminal complaint.

Fleurizard reportedly told investigators he used a friend’s Southwest Airlines "buddy pass" to get through security at the airport and went to the Delta plane’s gate after the flight he wanted to get on was full.

WOMAN WALKED THROUGH UNMANNED CHECKPOINT, TOOK AMERICAN AIRLINES FLIGHT WITHOUT TICKET: REPORT

The complaint alleges Fleurizard was seen on security cameras taking pictures of other people’s boarding passes at that gate without their knowledge before apparently using one of those photos to get on board the plane, CBS News reports.

Fleurizard then tried to hide in the front and rear bathrooms of the aircraft, but once the doors were sealed and the plane began taxiing with no open seats left, the flight staff on board noticed the issue, and the plane returned to the gate, the station added, citing the complaint.

Fleurizard reportedly told investigators he "admitted he had made a mistake and was only trying get home" from Utah following a snowboarding trip to Park City.

Jail records show Fleurizard is still being held Wednesday in Salt Lake City on a federal detainer.

A Transportation Security Administration spokesperson told FOX Business that "we have looked into this matter and learned that the individual in question was screened without an incident at the security checkpoint at Salt Lake City international Airport on Sunday, March 17 using a photo ID that matched the name on the boarding pass."

Last month, a woman reportedly was able to travel on a domestic flight from Tennessee to California without a boarding pass.

"TSA is reviewing the circumstances of this matter but can confirm that the traveler in question was physically screened, along with their carry-on items, without incident at the Nashville International Airport security checkpoint on February 7th before boarding the flight," a TSA spokesperson told USA Today at the time.

FOX Business’ Timothy Nerozzi contributed to this report.
