WHEN TO CHARTER IN ZADAR

The charter season in Zadar begins in April and lasts until November. The sailing conditions are exquisite, and the weather is excellent all year round. We recommend booking your yacht charter in Zadar at the end of June and first 2 weeks of July, so you can enjoy ideal weather conditions.

The most popular time for a yacht charter in Zadar region is during the summer months i.e. between June and September. Summer in this region means that you will be blessed with 13 hours of sunshine per day and temperatures between 25 and 30 C ° (77-86 Fahrenheit).

The Mediterranean climate promises a dry and warm summer with winds of no more than 10-20 knots. The peak season for sailors is July and August, with an insanely high number of sunny days and a great number of yachts on the water, while June, September, and October offer equally satisfying sailing conditions but fewer crowds.

For a truly tranquil yacht charter in Zadar, April, May, and November are ideal for exploring the 300+ islands, islets, and reefs. Thanks to the low boat traffic, the underwater world is at its peak during these months. You will have the opportunity to explore the region in all its glory, without the summer crowds. Imagine waking up on your yacht in a peaceful, pristine bay and seeing curious dolphins jumping around your boat.

The winds are particularly reliable during the yachting season when local yacht lovers claim they can set their watch by relying on their frequency. The mistral wind blows during the day, peaking between 9 am and 12 pm, then taking a break for a couple of hours before returning at 3 pm (“after lunch”) for a few more hours until dusk, when the winds die down to a light breeze.

Yacht Charter in Zadar air temperature graph

Zadar has mild winters and warm summers, but the temperatures are never too extreme. In the yacht charter season from May to September, conditions are practically perfect – the temperature is somewhere between 20 and 25 C °   (68-77 Fahrenheit) which means swimsuits, light clothes and bare feet are the order of the day.

The Adriatic is very well protected and enclosed, so temperatures never drop below 15 degrees, and the sea is swimmable all year round. By the end of May, swimming in the sea becomes pleasant and refreshing at around 20 degrees, and by the end of August, at 25 degrees, it feels like you are swimming in a pool.

This unique island got its nickname “the Moon Island” because its bare landscape reminds people of the surface of the moon, especially in the evening when the moon shines over the calm sea with a silvery haze.

The truth is, Pag is bare due to strong Bura winds from the north, although its moonlike appearance made Pag a perfect filming location for multiple TV shows like ‘The Terror’ , ‘Winnetou’, ‘Top Gear’ and many commercials for famous brands like Bugatti, Rimac and Audi.

Apart from UNESCO heritage treasures like Paška lace , Pag conceals another gem – the impressive Zrće beach , also known as the “Croatian Ibiza”, where you can moor your yacht at Club Noa and enjoy the beats from your yacht deck.

In the Zadar archipelago, there are numerous berths with a good mix of marina berths and free-swinging anchorages. Further south lays the marina Dalmacija in Sukošan – the largest marina in Croatia (located 7 km south of the historical town of Zadar) and the beautiful marina Biograd.

Marina Zadar (Tankerkomerc) – You can get to this marina quite easily from the airport, by taxi or a VIP transfer, arranged by the SuperYachts Croatia team. The journey from the airport to the marina takes less than 15 minutes, and there’s no real effort, except to sit back and enjoy a scenic ride through Zadar.

Tankerkomerc Marina Zadar has a total capacity of 300 wet berths and 200 dry berths, all of which are equipped with water, electricity and other amenities. It can accommodate yachts up to 45 m in length. Sea depth in the marina ranges from 8 to 12 m, and at the breakwater between 12 and 15 m.

Marina Zadar is located right in the city centre, which means that it is a very atmospheric place to stay, with many bars and restaurants nearby. The nearest supermarket is Konzum on the main road leading from the marina towards the bridge to the old town and should have everything you need.

Marina Borik (D-Marin) – The premier boutique marina D-Marin Borik is a fantastic gateway to the dotted Adriatic coast. Marina Borik has 177 berths with a maximum draft of 3.5m and a maximum boat length of up to 40m, and it has sufficient facilities to accommodate up to 185 vessels in the sea.

This marina offers six floating pontoons with depths up to 6m and is equipped with a side finger pier mooring system. This marina is also equipped with freshwater outlets and a 220 V power bollard.

D-Marin Borik is located near the famous Sailing club Uskok, where you will find many sailors and professional skippers. Here you can also witness some regattas, such as the traditional regatta Zadarska Koka in October which is a delightful sight. Near the marina, you can enjoy the sandy beach Borik or the pebble beach Uskok.

D-Marin Dalmacija – the largest and most luxurious marina on the Croatian coast, located near the city of Zadar, with first-class facilities and top-notch gastro and hospitality services. This marina has a berthing capacity of 200 wet berths and 300 dry docks, and a capacity for superyachts up to 70m.

The marina is only 12 km from Zadar Airport, which has a direct connection to London, Manchester, Dublin, Glasgow, and many other European cities. This marina is open all year round, and it is located south of Zadar near Sukošan. There are enough berths to accommodate 1200 boats.

The marina has many facilities, including a reception, water and electricity connections, telephone connections, a small shop, a hotel, a casino, a yacht club, an indoor Olympic swimming pool, laundry, and dry-cleaning services, sports fields, medical services, and a charter fleet. The marina has a lift and is equipped for repairs as well as the many amenities and services you might need.

Telašćica Bay – anchor your superyacht in the extraordinary Telašćica bay, known as the largest, safest, and most beautiful Croatian harbour full of unspoiled nature. This paradise is located in the SE part of Dugi Otok and it offers protection from all winds. Due to its extreme beauty, it was declared a nature park in 1988.

Telašćica is popular amongst the yachts lovers for its calm emerald bays and pristine nature. This stunning bay is one of the most beautiful places in the Adriatic, filled with lush vegetation and majestic white cliffs.

Sakarun Bay – Anchor your yacht charter on one of the most famous beaches in Croatia – the 800m long Sakrun bay, widely recognized for its white sand. You will enjoy a hint of the tropical atmosphere and feel the Caribbean flare while you swim in the turquoise lagoons that is Sakarun bay.

Levrnaka Island – cruise with your yacht to the island Levrnaka, a place of truly remarkable beauty. This small island offers two anchorages – one on the north side and the other on the SW side. They offer good protection from north and south winds. The bay on the N side is deep and suitable for larger boats.

The bay on the Southwestern side has a sandy bottom and offers mooring buoys. Here you will find the only sandy lagoon in the Kornati archipelago – Lojena.

Zadar

Zadar Yacht Charters

Visit a medieval port city surrounded by walls and towers and pretty beaches on your zadar yacht charter.

Boasting an incredible history and a rich cultural heritage, the city of Zadar, takes yacht charter guests a step back in time. With historical artifacts from the ancient and Medieval eras scattered across city streets, Zadar was unintentionally designed with the explorer in mind.

Characterized by quaint cobblestone streets – each of which is surrounded by elements of Zadar’s obvious culture: outdoor concerts, theaters, museums, and archeological exhibitions – the city is a world of its own.

Contrasting its historic feel is its reputation as the urban center of northern Dalmatia. Home to more than 75,000 residents, a large number for a city of its size, Zadar is the cultural, economic, and political center of the area; making it the perfect place for yacht charter guests to come to experience its antiquated past, delicious local fare, mystical Adriatic Sea views and enchanting way of life.

Zadar Yacht Charters – Things to Do & See

Zadar yacht charters

The Church of Saint Donat

Dating back to the 9th century, the Church of Saint Donat – the most famous monument in all of Zadar – was built upon the remains of the Roman forum, by the very bishop after which it is named. First made public by the Byzantine Emperor, Constantine VII Porphyrogennetos, in the middle of the 10th century, this church is used, today, for important musical performances; due primarily to its extraordinary acoustics.

Roman Forum

Located in front of The Church of Saint Donat and the Archbishop’s Palace, Zadar’s Roman Forum was founded by the first Emperor Augustus – as documented on two of the monument’s stone inscriptions (“Illyricum, Tamfil Vaale”), dating back to the 3rd century. A symbol of Zadar’s complicated past, this site is also home to the “pillar of shame,” known for being the place where punished individuals were chained during the Middle Ages.

Saint Anastasia’s Cathedral

Built on the prior site of an early Christian church, Saint Anastasia’s Cathedral is the largest of its kind in all of Dalmatia. Characterized by an early Christian basilica, 12th-century Romanesque architecture and an inscription of Archbishop John dating back to 1324, this piece of Dalmatian heritage tell a new story everywhere you turn.

The Church of Saint Simeon

Dating back to the 16th century, the Church of Saint Simeon is a product of much historical reform – changing from a Christian three-nave basilica, to a piece of Gothic architecture, to even later, a provincial baroque church. One of the most notable elements of this church is the silver chest that sits on its altar. Once belonging to Saint Simeon himself circa 1380, this relic was ordered by Queen Elizabeth herself, and designed by Franjo, a popular goldsmith from Milan who lived in the city of Zadar.

Zadar Yacht Charter

In Croatia , luxury yacht charter groups intent on extensively cruising the coastline by motor yacht or sailing yacht always make sure to include Zadar as a destination, not only for its top quality marina facilities but for the incredible Venetian and Roman influences that mark its history, interspersed with an array of modern attractions.

A luxury yacht charter is the best way to pack in as much of Croatia within a week as possible: Unhindered by ferry times and the state of the roads, you are free to choose between cosmopolitan living and far-flung sandy islands that feature some of the most amazing caves and coastal features the Mediterranean has to offer. Zadar is an exemplary model of this, where the Old Town and Archaeological Museum provide thorough insight into life in Zadar in the past, and nearby island 'Dugi Otok' is a treasure trove of Scuba diving sites and pristine beaches with countless secluded anchorages.

Considered as Croatia’s cultural capital, holidaymakers and superyachts that wish to savour the full splendour and charm of the Eastern Adriatic Sea should include a day or two around Zadar in their Croatia yacht charter itineraries. For a full list of available Croatia luxury yachts cruising the seas around Zadar, contact CharterWorld.

5 quick reasons to visit Zadar

Unique historic attractions, Vibrant modern culture, Delicious Italian and Croatian cuisine, Myriad dive sites, Easily accessible tranquil island getaways

More about this part of the Adriatic Sea

Plenty of superyachts and luxury travellers visit Zadar, especially during the summer months. This makes Zadar the unofficial converging point of yacht charter sailors and holidaymakers. Majority of tourists that come to Zadar are from Germany and the UK, and because of this, German and English are considered as the unofficial languages in Zadar.

The city lies on an important maritime route, making it a favourite jump-off point for tourists who want to spend their Croatian holiday on board a luxury motor yacht or sailing yacht of their choice.

Zadar is the perfect starting point for any yacht charter holiday in Croatia as you can conveniently set sail and reach other important tourist destinations in the region, including the cities of Rijeka and Dubrovnik. On top of this, Zadar is also an ideal jump-off point if you want to access Italy’s Ancona city, which lies on the opposite end of the Adriatic, and Venice to the north is another iconic city that many choose to include in the group's luxury yacht itinerary.

Moreover, with Italy on the western side of the Adriatic Sea, gelaterias, rich chocolates and some of its best and most iconic savoury dishes have integrated into modern Croatian culture, which has long had influences from Rome.

Zadar Yacht Charter Experiences

Zadar and the northern Istria coastal region provides a great sample of everything that is worthwhile and stunning about Croatia. A holiday in this popular yacht charter destination alone will almost be a complete experience of the best of authentic Croatia: A leisurely walk along the narrow Zadar streets is already an experience to remember, as you can already get a clear glimpse at the rich culture and history of Croatia. In Old Zadar there are Roman and Venetian landmarks teeming with opulence and grandiosity.

Notable landmarks and places with historical and cultural importance include the cathedral of St. Anastasia, the Roman Forum, the Archaeological Museum, Riva’s famed Sea Organ where music is made by the sea (be sure to pass by during the day and the evening), and the University.

A stroll through the city waterfront will also reveal numerous boutiques and market stall vendors selling authentic local crafts like woven textiles, handcrafted laces and traditional sleepers made from sheepskin. A more contemporary souvenir can be found in the galleries and jewellers before you head to the nearby islands for peace, quiet and the alluring beaches and coves just a short cruise away from the city. Dugi Otok stands out for its beautiful coastal caves, clear snorkel and Scuba diving sites and picture perfect villages set within a rugged pastoral landscape.

If you choose to venture farther inland, the Nacionalni Park Plitvička Jezera features numerous stunning waterfalls that have UNESCO World Heritage status.

Things to Consider:

Yachting seasons & climate:.

Zadar has hot summer with little to no rain and mild winters that are the most likely time of the year for rainfall, but still have enough dry days and indoor amusements to attract yacht charter groups. The sea temperatures are a warm 25°C/77°F during July and August where there is also the most daylight summer hours.

The shoulder seasons of spring and autumn are also excellent for cruising as well as visiting the local villages and other land-based attractions, and at 17°C/63°F, guests can comfortably relax outdoors in the sunshine on the sundeck.

Clothing to Pack For Your Charter:

Away from the beaches visitors and locals typically opt for smart-casual attire, and visits to religious sites should cover thighs and shoulders - tank tops, short shorts and flip flops are generally not acceptable.

Air conditioned buildings can feel chilly after the hot summer outdoors and visitors might want to carry a long lightweight layer for this purpose, and to keep off the coastal winds after sundown.

Main Ports and Marinas:

Zadar Marina, Borik Marina, Dalmacija Marina, Kornati Marina

Famous Restaurants & Clubs

Kaštel Restaurant, Foša Restaurant

A Must See Attraction:

Museum of Illusions, Church of St. Donatus, Roman Forum, Archaeological Museum Zadar, Dugi Otok, Nacionalni Park Plitvička Jezera

Best beaches to visit in your yacht:

Prasna Beach, Dugi Beach, Brbinjšćica Bay

Local Yacht Events:

Easter Regatta, Kornati Cup, Croatia Coast Cup, Adriatic Regatta

Best time to go:

Summer is the Mediterranean yacht charter season and it peaks around July and August, however as Croatia has warm temperatures from May until October, the shoulder seasons are just as viable for those looking to avoid the crowds.

However, July and August have the most sunshine hours and warm sea temperatures hovering around 24°C/75°F, making it ideal for groups with young children and those who have an aversion to cold. If you ever want a moment to yourself, simply sail off to the islands and relax on a fine sand beach.

DISCOVER THE UNSPOILED ZADAR ON A LUXURY CHARTER

The old dalmatian capital is a striking town of majestic buildings and romantic atmosphere. a few feet from the truly impressive sea organ and sun salutation, the seafront makes features a mix-and-match of architectural style that include a 1950s neighborhood and corinthian columns..

Zadar is one of Croatia’s most charming towns, although less famous than the nearby Split and Dubrovnik . Encircled by ancient Venetian walls featuring the Land Gate and Sea Gate, Zadar presents the largest Roman Forum of the eastern Adriatic, connected to the People’s Square by Kalelarga, the town’s main street. A stroll down the town’s alleys must start at the Sea Organ : an open-air artwork on the waterfront made of pipes that exude a mesmerizing melody produced by the movements of the sea.

Zadar sits in a natural oasis packed with protected areas including the national parks of Paklenica National Park , a trekking and rock-climbing hotspot, and the Kornati Islands , sporting a deep natural bay offering the perfect shelter to spend a night in the roads on your sailboat, or motorboat. The Cerovac Caves and Zrmanja River are, instead, great for rafting and hiking, while the Krka National Park is home to a spectacular waterfall carrying the waters of the rivers Krka and Čikola to the sea.

Hiring a luxury boat in Croatia to discover these unspoiled sites on a boat is a unique experience. Like the charming island of Dugi Otok, the largest of the Zadarine Archipelago, whose northern shores feature Sakarun, one of the top-rated seaside spots in the area with cobalt waters sheltered by pinewoods that reach out to the sea. Kolovaro , Borik , and Baton , one of the few sandy beaches of the area, are also worth visiting.

A Zadar Yacht Charter creates memorable experiences, discovering wonderful sites where nature is the main attraction.

Zadar yacht charter

Sailing holidays in Zadar …with catamaran, sailboat, motorboat, luxury yacht or gulet Abundance of national parks!!!

As part of the Adriatic culture, Zadar is no exception to the specific local lifestyle in which the love for good food plays an important role in everyday life. The local people are passionate about everything in their lives, but especially about gastronomy. They will gladly inform you their cuisine is among the best you will ever try. It is therefore inevitable to dive into the inviting mixture of enchanting aromas, waken your senses and enjoy some truly amazing dishes.

Zadar is proud of its Dalmatian heritage, visible in every aspect of their culture, including the local cuisine. Based on simple principles of food preparation, Dalmatian cuisine is considered to be among the healthiest in the world. The locals can thank than their vitality to light, predominantly cooked or grilled fish meals accompanied by the fresh seasonal vegetables with small amounts of spices and with a touch of inevitable olive oil. Every such meal is concluded by the glass of quality wine from the rich local vineyards.

As a modern tourist destination, Zadar has an immensely rich gastronomic offer, managing to satisfy even the most demanding of guests. From fast food objects, patisseries and trattorias over to praised local taverns and exclusive fine dining venues; you can find them all in Zadar. The majority of restaurants are conveniently incorporated into the romantic city architecture and situated in the immediate city center.

If you prefer to try something different and exotic, there are two restaurants serving dishes of the Far East; Pearl of Siam is a Thai restaurant and in the newly opened Shanghai House you can try some of the most recognizable Chinese specialties. One of the best fish restaurants are Niko and Fosa; if you’re into fine dining be sure not to miss Gourmet Kalelarga, Pet Bunara and Lungo Mare; and if you prefer to enjoy the true Dalmatian atmosphere while tasting the local specialties, visit one of the city taverns (e.g. Konoba Trata).

But, the majority of Zadar visitors are interested to try the local cuisine. We warmly recommend you explore the endless choices of fish specialties ranging from grilled fish, seafood risottos, fish stews, various delicious shrimps and clamshells. And if you are more of a “meat person”, don’t miss to taste pasticada, the traditional Dalmatian beef stew marinated in lemony vinaigrette, slowly cooked in wine and served with the homemade gnocchi.

There are several gastronomic delicacies typical for Zadar, designed through the centuries of foreign influences and local specificities of climate and available groceries. Be sure to try the cheese from the Island of Pag, one of the best cheeses in Croatia and winner of many international awards and acknowledgements. This cheese is best if accompanied by the aromatic prosciutto dried in the streams of bura, the strong local wind blowing from the mountain ridges. Encircle the exquisite tastes of the local delicacies with a glass of quality wine from the fertile vineyards of Zadar. And as a desert, try Maraschino, original sweet liqueur of Zadar made from the indigenous variety of cherry.

Zadar is a town that has antique origins with the most researched Roman forum on the eastern side of the Adriatic and late Roman church – the cathedral of St. Stošija [St. Anastasia], Sv. Krševan [St. Krsevan] and the famous Sv. Donat [St. Donatus]. With its valuable collections, libraries and archives, Zadar is proud of the fact that the foundations of the oldest Croatian university were laid here in 1396.

Recently made even more famous for its Sea Organ, an architectural miracle on the Zadar riva (sea front). Alfred Hitchcock was so impressed with Zadar and its sunset that he said that from the Zadar riva ‘one can enjoy the most beautiful sunset in the world. If you go to the nearby old town of Nin, you will find the smallest cathedral in the world – Crkva svetog Kriza (Church of the Holly Cross), that is only 36 paces long.

Attractive sailing destinations:

Dugi Otok is an island located close to Zadar on the mainland, and is the largest among the islands located in this part of Dalmatia. Its name literally means ‘long island’ – for it is indeed of this description (it is 45km long) – and is known for its vineyards and orchards, Saharun beach in the north, and Telascica Nature Park that covers the south part of the island. With a population of just 1,500 people on Dugi Otok, the main villages are Bozava and Sali.

Dugi Otok is a wonderful place to stay if you’re looking to get ‘off the beaten track’! Despite Croatia’s obviously popularity, even in the summer months this island well and truly provides travellers with some peace and quiet, although there are still some wonderful things to see and do here.

It is very easy to take a swim on Dugi otok as wherever you turn you’ll have fascinating clear, blue sea attracting you with its beauty. The hidden coves where you can find charming, untouched beaches, represent a challenge for researchers, but also to all those who want privacy and peace.

The beauty of Dugi otok, the beach Sakarun, will fascinate many with its beauty and satisfy those who want crystal-clear waters and white sand at their fingertips.

Sakarun, like many other coves on Dugi otok is a safe harbour for sailors, and thus makes Dugi otok an ideal place to find shelter from the powerful forces of sea and wind. Beaches on Sali are, for the most part, pleasantly calm, lacking the crowds of Croatia’s top beaches. You’ll find several pristine, quiet spots, like Lojisce Beach, in Telascica Nature Park.

At the other end of the island, a small beach on Veli Rat offers great views of Dugi Otok’s lighthouse. Standing 42 meters high, the lighthouse at Veli Rat is the tallest in the Adriatic. It was built in 1849, when, according to legend, 100,000 egg yolks were used to give the facade its unique yellow color. Today, the lighthouse provides accommodation for visitors seeking a romantic getaway.

Sakarun is the island’s most well known – and most crowded – beach. A sandy bottom and shallow waters make this calm cove popular among families, while a couple of beach bars cater to the younger crowd.

Ist Island is a small island whose shape resembles a butterfly. It is ideal for holidays in unspoiled nature away from the stress and bustle of cities. Car traffic is not allowed on the island so you can freely enjoy the peace of the island and fresh air.

Explore the island and take a walk through the vineyards and olive groves to the highest point of the island where you will find a small the church, a gazebo and enjoy in the panoramic view of the islands in the area. Discover sandy beaches and clear waters in quiet coves and relax in the shade of pine trees. It is interesting that during the day you can move from one side of the island to another and experience a different, perhaps more peaceful wind. Ist is a favorite destination for navigators, divers and fishermen. In addition to its beauty, its kitchen also attracts tourists. There are restaurants that serve dishes of freshly caught fish, crabs, mussels, wine and cheese.

The Island of Ist, with a town bearing the same name, is a true destination for a peaceful and quiet vacation. The waters around the island abound in fish; this being the reason it attracts many recreational fishermen, though the underwater world is no less interesting for divers. The peaceful island of Ist and its main settlement of the same name placed in a bay with a small marina are ideal for those who prefer quiet, somewhat secluded outdoor holidays. The island has barely 250 inhabitants.

There are hills, olive groves and vineyeards in its interior. Ist and the neighboring islands of Molat and Skarada, with their sandy beaches, bays and sandbanks are ideal for sports fishing, diving and nautical tourism. Anchorage is available in the Mljaka bay where guests are offered accommodation in private holiday houses.

Pasman is an island located in the Zadar archipelago, separated from the mainland by the beautiful Pasman canal which contains ten smaller islands. Pasman covers the surface of 60 km2 and has a 70km long, indented shore which is why it is considered one of the largest Croatian islands. There are eleven settlements on the island, the population of which is engaged in fishing and tourism. The sea current in this area changes every six hours, which makes the sea the cleanest in the entire Adriatic.

Pasman is famous for its beautiful beaches and pine tree forests. The north side of the island is the only one populated, while the settlements are small and typically Mediterranean, ideal for a quiet and relaxing vacation. The south side of the island abounds in beautiful intact nature, beautiful coves and old fishermen houses overlooking one of the most beautiful group of islands in the Adriatic – Kornati.

The population of the island of Pasman is traditionally engaged in agriculture, fishing and, more recently, tourism. Recreation enthusiasts can enjoy on the footpaths and biking trails; we also recommend the hiking-biking tour to the hill of Veli Bokolj which offers the view of neighboring islands, the Pasman canal and the Kornati.

The most important island center is Tkon, which is developing faster than any other settlement on the island because of its large harbor and quality connection to the mainland. The population calls this place “Kun”, but is also known as the “Door to Kornati”. Kraj is a beautiful place surrounded by vineyards and olive groves which stretches along two beautiful sandy beaches. It holds the gothic Franciscan monastery of St. Dujam from the 14th century with the image of the Madonna with baby Jesus from the 15th century, as well as the exponents’ museum which reveals the history of the island of Pasman.

Vrgada is a small Adriatic island, surrounded by much larger isles such as Pasman, Kornati and Murter. Being less than 2.5 km² in size, and having a scarce population of 250 inhabitants, it’s a great spot for visitors seeking peace and an easy-going vacation.

Vrgada is full of wild plantlife, which can be used for stews, spices or even medical treatments. The local beach of Janica is known for huge blocks of stone, found on the bottom of its sea, which are actually the remains of Dijana, an archaic harbor of the classical period.

Other points of interest include pusevbrus, a stone attached to one’s house which was used for sharpening the agricultural tools of villagers. The local church is a home to statue of St. Andrew, patron saint of fisherman. Interestingly, the statue was brought to Vrgada’s shores by sea waves, and nobody really knows who made it and how it ended up in Adriatic.

Another small place for an interesting holiday, Vrgada might be just the kind of island you seek to rest your nerves and experience true tranquility.

The island of Vir is located 26 km from Zadar and it is connected to mainland by a bridge which makes it easy accessible because it is not tied with ferry lines. The largest settlement on the island of Vir is located in the bay Sapavac. It was first mentioned in 1069 in the document of King Petar Kresimir called Ueru i.e. Vera, meaning pasture. Along the coast, in the bay Sapavac, you can see the remains of the fortress Kaštelina from 17th century which was built by the Venetians in order to protect themselves from Turkish attacks. Only one wall and two towers are preserved from the entire fort. The arms of the Venetian family and a winged lion that was the symbol of Venice are visible on the tower.

The island is ideal for families because it is surrounded by coves with sandy and pebble beaches and clear sea. Along the beaches you can see pine trees so you can relax in the shade. Besides swimming and diving, you can try water sports and sail, surf, ride a jet ski or simply explore the island on foot. The area is ideal for mountain biking. In summer the wind is blowing, which relieves summer heat and creates perfect conditions for surfing and windsurfing. On some beaches on Vir, especially in the bay n Sapavac ear the fort Kaštelina, you can find medicinal mud (peloid mud) which is good for the treatment of rheumatic diseases.

On the island you can taste the local cuisine in the restaurants and taverns, and nightlife can be found in bars, some of which are open until late at night. Every year Vir traditionally organizes ‘’Vir summer’’, cultural and musical event, which lasts from June to September. Among the other events Dalmatian ‘’klapa’’ singing and Days of the island of Vir are organized.

The island has great location because you can go on a trip to the countryside and visit the National Park Plitvice lakes, Krka waterfalls, or Kornati.

Murter is a small place situated on the north-western part of the eponymous island which is connected to the mainland by a mobile bridge. The town was formerly known as Veliko Selo and Srimac. It received its current name in 1715. History lovers can visit the remains of the roman buildings (remains of an ancient settlement Colentum) located at the foot of the Gradina hill, as well as the church of Our Lady in Gradina and the parish church of St. Mihovil.

This town is surrounded by numerous islands and part of them create the beautiful National park – Kornati. Be sure to visit this breathtaking national park. You can cruise around the Kornati labyrinth, dive or snorkle, observe the flora and fauna, explore the amazing islands or try to live among Kornat families. Murter is rich with sandy beaches, such as Slanica, Cigrada, Podvrske and many others. During the summer, you can attend classical and fun music concerts and enjoy local church singing. This is a place which has a rich tourist offer, in which everyone can find something to their liking. Gastronomy enthusiasts can savor the delicacies of the island in the restaurants “Skalinda” and “Runje”, as well as in the tavern “Balarina”.

Although relatively small, Island Murter boasts a rich variety of picturesque coves and beaches dotted along its coast. Island Murter may actually be considered as one long beach, which transforms as you circumnavigate the island from the peaceful, isolated, private, nudist beaches to the more lively, fun-filled beaches resonating to the frantic red-hot pace of summer. Whether you choose to unwind in the peaceful isolated bays or search for a party, one thing is for sure – you have chosen your place in the sun.

Zadar Sailing Trips: A Complete Guide to Boat Tours, Courses, Sail Schools, and Yacht Charter, in Zadar, Croatia

Thinking about taking a sailing trip in Zadar?

We spent months sailing in the north of Croatia in the Zadar Archipelago and discovered everything you need to know about Zadar sailing trips.

At the beginning of 2022, we traveled to Zadar, Croatia, to buy a sailboat , learn to sail, and spend a season sailing the Adriatic Sea. After four years of traveling by van, we were excited about our sea change. But there was one problem… we didn’t know how to sail.  So, we set about finding a sailing instructor to show us the ropes (so to speak) and teach us to sail. In doing so, we learned all about sailing Zadar and the fantastic range of Zadar sailing trips, tours, courses, and experiences available.

For those looking for a Croatian sailing experience, Zadar offers something for everyone. Take a Zadar sailing trip or tour, learn to sail, upgrade your qualifications or charter your own private yacht. The number and variety of Zadar sailing trips are practically endless.

What’s so Great About Sailing Zadar Croatia

The beautiful city of Zadar in northern Dalmatia is one of Croatia’s oldest cities and the perfect place to start your Croatian sailing adventure.

The pretty, historic old town sits behind world heritage-listed stone walls that date back to the 12th century. Within the fortifications lies a maze of narrow, cobblestoned streets weaving between old sandstone buildings with red-tiled rooves, recalling its Roman origins. The port city has a long maritime history that stretches back into antiquity.

Today, it has become a popular tourist destination for Croatians, Europeans, and visitors from all over the world. The bustling town comes alive in the summertime with markets, restaurants, cafes, and bars that spill out into the picturesque streets.

Off the coast of the city, the group of islands that form the Zadar Archipelago features striking landscapes and quaint villages.

You’ll find uninhabited islands with hidden bays and crystal clear waters, and national parks teeming with life and brimming with beauty. Pods of dolphins frolic in the water interacting with sailboats, all the while seabirds wheel overhead.

The larger islands here are scattered with picturesque settlements, tiny villages, and historic medieval buildings. Like the rest of the Croatian Adriatic, the coast and islands off Zadar offer a sailor’s paradise. In addition to the stunning natural beauty and storied history, the islands provide optimal sailing conditions without swell, tides, or dangerous unmarked reefs. What’s more, consistent and mostly predictable weather patterns prevail here, making planning relatively straightforward and safe. With so much to recommend about this famous sailing ground, it is little wonder that there are plenty of options when it comes to choosing your own Zadar sailing adventure.

Before you set sail, be sure to wander the beautifully preserved and historic old town, walk along the quay and see the ferries and cruise ships, as well as the famous sea organ, and enjoy the vibrant dining and bar scene Zadar has to offer.

Choosing Your Zadar Sailing Trip

As with the rest of the Croatian coastline, Zadar is mad about sailing. People travel from all over Europe and around the world to sail here. As a result, there is a variety of options when it comes to sailing experiences on offer in this port city.

Private Boat Charter Zadar

Chartering your own boat is one of the best ways to experience the Zadar archipelago, Croatia, and the Adriatic Sea.

Explore at your own pace, create your own itinerary and your own ideal holiday. Croatia is one of the most popular places in the world to charter a boat as it is beautiful, enjoys fantastic weather in summer, and is relatively safe.

With so many boats bobbing around the Adriatic, it is easy to find one to charter. However, given Croatia’s enormous popularity as a sailing ground in summer, to secure the boat you want it is recommended to book early!

Yachting.com offers a list of boats available for charter, with or without a skipper.

Bare Boat Charter Zadar without Skipper

Zadar is a great place to charter a rental boat with family or friends. If you are an experienced sailor with the minimum certifications you can rent a boat and skipper it yourself in Zadar. Croatia issues its own skippers ticket but also recognizes marine qualifications from many places around the world. The Croatian Ministry of Maritime Affairs has a list of the nautical qualifications recognized in Croatia .

Bareboat charter in Zadar, without skipper, crew, or provisions starts from around €70 per day for a smaller (<30 ft), older (pre-1990s) in low season through to modern yachts over 50 feet which can cost well over a thousand euro per day in high season.

Boat Charter with Skipper in Zadar

If you don’t have the experience, the qualifications, or the inclination to sail yourself, but are still interested in an independent, self-directed sailing holiday in Zadar, hiring a skipper along with a boat is simple here. Simply put in a request when enquiring about a charter boat and you will be put in touch with a professional skipper.

The cost of a skipper is generally about €200 per day, they will need a private cabin onboard and food.

What to See When Sailing Zadar Croatia

Once you set sail from Zadar, the opportunities are endless.

The Zadar Archipelago is made up of 15 major islands and hundreds of smaller ones. Each offers a multitude of bays, beaches, coves, traditional villages, and uninhabited islands to explore.

While the number of things to do and see on the seas around Zadar is limitless there are some key experiences that belong on any sailing tour in Zadar.

Kornati National Park

The protected nautical paradise of Kornati National Park includes 80+ islands and is one of Croatia’s most popular marine recreational areas featuring diving, sailing, camping & hiking.

Ugland is not only the closest island to Zadar it is also the largest of the Zadar islands. Perhaps most importantly, it is regarded as the Olive Island of Zadar.

The island is covered with thousands of olive trees and produces some of the best olive oil in the region. The small village of Muline is the best place to uncover the ancient traditions of olive oil making on the island of Ugland.

Outside of its abundance of olive trees, Ugland has many cycling routes, monasteries, churches, and views over beautiful bays. One could easily spend an active weekend soaking in the Croatian lifestyle on this Zadar island.

Island villages do not come more charming or more authentic than Veli Iž. Trapped in time, not much has changed here but that is exactly why you should visit. Stroll through the streets, take a walk along the sea wall, and dine on fresh seafood. This quiet and authentic town is definitely worth a stop on your Zadar sailing trip.

Another charming, quaint village, in the Zadar archipelago, is Sali. Sali has a bit more going on than Veli Iž (complete with a nightclub that operates during the summer season). Sali is also a great jumping-off point for Kornati National Park which you will definitely not want to miss when sailing Zadar.

One of the most famous beaches in the Zadar region, Sakarun is located on the island of Dugi Otok. Its popularity is perhaps due to the fact that the beach is in fact white silica sand, a sight more common in the Caribbean than on the coast of Croatia. It is a great place to spend an afternoon taking long beach walks, swimming in the crystal clear water, and basking in the Croatian sun.

To the north of Zadar, one of the price jewels of the Zadar Archipelago is the island of Pag. This narrow island is home to one of Croatia’s most prized products, Pag cheese (Paski Sir) made with sheep’s milk.

The island of Pag may also sound familiar as it is home to one of Croatia’s most notable party beaches, Zrce. Zrce comes to life during the summer with regular music festivals featuring international DJs making it the place to be for people looking to party in Croatia.

More FAQs About Zadar Sailing Trips

Do you have more questions about the many Zadar sailing trips on offer? Check out this list of frequently asked questions.

How Much Does it Cost to Take a Zadar Sailing Trip?

Well, the cost of sailing will be dependent on the type of sailing tour or trip you choose. But sailing tours and trips are extremely affordable in Zadar and in Croatia compared to other sailing destinations around the world.

Some examples of prices in the low season are listed below.

  • Prices for shorter trips like sunset cruises start around€30 per person or €150 for a private boat.
  • Half-day tours start at around €50 per person or €300 for a private boat.
  • Full-day tours start around €75 per person or €400 for a private boat.
  • Multi-day tours start from €400 per day (private boat)
  • Sailing School depends on the course but three-day beginner courses can be as little as €270 per person
  • Bare Boat Charter – the cost of renting a yacht is highly dependent on the size, age, and condition of the yacht you hire, but for perspective, you can get a relatively tidy 30 or 40 foot boat no older than a decade for around €300 a day in high season, with big discounts in low season.
  • Skipper hire generally costs about €200 per day.

The cheapest way to take any sailing tour in Zadar is generally to organize a private tour and bring your own group of friends and family along with you.

What’s the Best Time to Take a Sailing Trip in Zadar?

Sailing in Croatia during the summer months is extremely popular. We recommend booking a sailing trip in Zadar during May or September. During this time you can expect to find fewer crowds and cooler temperatures. Coming earlier or later may mean that many of the restaurants, bars, and other activities are closed. We originally visited Zadar in April and there were only a handful of places open. When we returned in May, the city was buzzing with energy and people.

Can I Take Children on a Sailing Tour in Zadar?

Absolutely. Children will absolutely love a sailing trip in Zadar. One of the benefits of sailing in the Adriatic Sea and the protection of the islands is that it is (generally) relatively calm when compared to sailing in the open ocean.

Make sure you discuss with your tour operator which tour is best suited for keeping children comfortable and safe!

In 2016, recently single, without a job, and an expiring lease I took off on my first solo backpacking trip, with a one-way ticket to Bangkok and a well-thumbed Lonely Planet guide. From there I wandered Southeast and Central Asia, traveled the Great Steppe, and made my way across Russia and throughout Europe.

Along the way I met Kelli, who, despite having a less frantic travel style, shared my my restless spirit and passion for exploration. Together, we embarked on a new journey, van life. Over four years we travelled across three different continents with three different vans.

In 2022, as the world began to re-open post COVID we took an opportunity to realise a long held dream, to live aboard a sailboat. Since then we have spent two summers in the Mediterranean, sailing and living aboard our little sail boat Whisper. When we aren't sailing we continue to live our nomadic lifestyle, guided by a philosophy of slow travel and self directed adventure be it by van or backpacking.

We find excitement through our journey into the unknown, stillness and content in the beauty of the places we discover and we find ourselves in the vastness of our world.

Hopefully, we can help you find what you're looking for too. Get lost with us and find your own path.

6-day Sailing Itinerary from Zadar

There’s so much to see and so many places to visit from Zadar, that one week just isn’t long enough to see and visit them all. Most places you go, you’ll find unspoilt beaches, bays, cliffs and islands, along with idyllic little fishing and farming villages, so you can’t go too far wrong, even if you just follow your nose and decide spontaneously where to go.

Zadar - 6 day sailing itinerary

This route takes in a lot of the nearby islands and clocks in at 116 nautical miles – which works out at just under 20 nM a day. As you’ll likely be going at a pace of 5 knots or above, that means the sailing should only take 4-5 hours a day, which leaves plenty of time to go at a leisurely pace, to explore your start or end destinations in depth, or to take your time and bob into bays, swim on some beaches, practice man-overboard drills, or just relax.

As we’ll be spending a night in the Kornati marine national park, it’s worth buying an entry pass in advance (since the ticket inspectors will sting you for an extra 50%, and they patrol the islands every night). The unwritten rule is that you need a pass for every day that you’re in the national park after 4pm, so if you’re following our itinerary, a one day pass should suffice.

Ist

From Zadar, we’re heading in a north-westerly direction. You’ll pass lots of other charter yachts heading other directions, but we’re heading off the beaten track to a small farming village on the island of Ist. The prevailing wind is landward from the sea, so it should be a simple reach or broad reach to sail there.

Ist is an island of vines and olive groves, as well as sandy beaches, and it’s a quiet and tranquil place to spend the night, even though there are ferry connections to other islands. There’s a couple of bars and a church, but essentially this is a place to get away from it all and to enjoy life on the ocean waves.

Veli Iz

There are beaches on the south side of Molat, or you could pop into the town itself – which, oddly enough, was visited by King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson in 1939. But then we’re heading in a south-westerly direction, reaching against the prevailing wind as we follow the channels between the islands and to the east side of Iz.

Veli Iz is a small fishing village which also happens to have its own Roman fort and 14th century church. Founded by fishermen way back when, the village also has a number of decent seafood restaurants, and is famous for its decorative pottery (for which there is even a museum). Sadly, though there were 70 pottery companies on the island in bygone years, there is now only one left.

Zut

You certainly need to stock up because Zut is out in the wilderness. Situated in a sheltered bay which has been used by sailors for centuries, the tourist board built a pontoon and walkway in the bay in recent years to make it easier for sailors to get to shore, and to increase the number of jobs on the island by 1200% - from 1 to 12 people.

When you moor up you’ll find a couple of small shops and bars or eateries (don’t rely on them to be open, just in case, but they’re good if they are), and not much else. It’s a very peaceful bay to spend the night in, and a very unspoilt island to explore.

Piskera

There are beaches and bays to explore, and you’re allowed to walk on the islands if you dare to brave the heat. The view from the top of the hills is certainly quite special, but it can take a bit of effort to get there.

From Zut, we’re heading west (likely beating or close-hauled) to pass over the top of Kornati island - the biggest island in the national park – and following down it’s western coast in a south-easterly direction, probably in a broad reach against the prevailing summer wind. Enjoy weaving your way around the islands, finding beaches, bays and even bars on the largely unspoilt islands. You need to head slightly west to ensure that you hit the west coast of Piskera, but it is fairly straight-forward to find the well-sheltered marina and to moor up for the night.

Piskera is similar to Zut in that it is a marina which was built primarily to make the Kornati islands easier for sailors to explore, so you won’t find a town here – though you will find a restaurant, an over-priced shop (but heck, it’s in the middle of nowhere, so it can’t be easy to stock it up!) and modern toilet facilities. It should be another tranquil night, although the bar here can get quite lively if there are enough sailors in the marina.

Murter

Starting in a south-easterly direction until we reach the southern tip of Kornati island, we then need to bear north-easterly to traverse across the channel to Murter. This should be a simple run with the prevailing wind, and you might be able to get away with a broad reach, but bonus marks are available if you manage to goose-wing your way back towards the mainland.

Murter is the largest town on the island of Murter (which isn’t really an island any more, since the arrival of a road connection to the mainland). Surrounded by brilliant beaches, it’s also popular with land-lubbing tourists, and there’s plenty of lively bars and restaurants along the waterfront, which will make a change of atmosphere from Piskera and Zut.

The best beaches are on the west coast, and you could anchor up here if you had time, or, if you fancy some exercise, you could walk to the top of the hill (where there is world war two military base) and enjoy watching the sun set over the Kornati islands.

Milna

Working our way up the coast, we’ll sail past Biograd, which is one of the most popular charter bases in Europe, and the home to the biggest boat show in Croatia (check out our destination guide for Biograd if you want to find out more about it, but it’s not worth stopping there today as it will be busy with people returning their charter yachts).

Further up the channel is lovers island. This is the most perfect heart-shaped island in the world. It was only really ‘discovered’ after the invention of Google Earth, but it’s now a romantic destination in it’s own right, and hundreds of people come and propose here each year. It’s a romantic place to go, and it’s traditional to loop around the island (or make a heart shape on your plotter if you’re skilled enough) if you’re going past it, and throwing a euro into the waters around here is supposed to sort out your love life.

Follow the coast further north and you’ll arrive back at Sukosan (the biggest marina in Croatia) or Zadar marina. You should refuel your yacht or catamaran before returning the boat to roughly the same space you took her from on day one. Someone will come and inspect the boat, but you’ll still be sleeping on her tonight.

If you’ve not had chance to visit the old town of Zadar, then now is a good time to go and see the 3,000 year old UNESCO world heritage site. Most bars near both marina’s will be lively with happy sailors recounting their adventures to anyone who will listen tonight, and it’s the last night of the holiday for so many people that it shouldn’t be difficult to find a lively atmosphere.

Hopefully you’ve been impressed by the sun, sea, sailing and general tranquillity of the Croatian islands, hopefully your crew all got on well together (and maybe there was a holiday romance?), and hopefully you’ve had a brilliant, enjoyable and relaxing holiday. Have a safe trip home, and, when you start to miss the sea and the sunshine, remember to visit PlainSailing.com to start planning your next epic adventure!

Sailing Conditions

Croatia Sailing - Wind Conditions

The winds are particularly reliable throughout the sailing season, when local sailors claim that they can set their watch by them: there are Mistral winds during the day which peak between 9am and mid-day, then take a break for a couple of hours, before returning (“after lunch”) for another few hours at 3pm until dusk, when the winds die down to a light breeze, if anything at all.

The daytime winds are usually Force 4 or Force 5, and their prevailing direction is landward, which is driven by the sun – as the land warms up and the air above it rises during the day, air is sucked from the sea. A little further out from the coast, and away from the Mistral winds, then the winds shoots down the Adriatic channel into the heart of the Mediterranean.

Zadar - Average Temperature

We use three marinas in Zadar, each offering excellent and modern facilities, and great levels of care for our guests.

If you're staying in the area before or after your charter, we can recommend these places that are close to Marina Zadar and D-Marin Borik - Prestige design rooms or El mirador rooms - or these places next to Sukosan - Hotel Joso or White Residence .

Marina Zadar

Marina Zadar is based right in the centre of town, which means it’s quite an atmospheric place to spend the night, and there’s plenty of bars and restaurants. The marina also boasts its own casino!

Roman Forum and the city Landmarks – Only a few steps away from your yacht charter, you will discover the largest preserved Roman Forum in Dalmatia. During ancient times, the forum was the centre of city life.

Since Zadar was destroyed and rebuilt 4 times throughout history, you will be able to see numerous remains,  including the famous pillar of shame and the majestic Church of St. Donatus , a must-see landmark of the city. Near the St. Donatus church, you will discover a majestic bell tower, which is open for visitors.

Climb up to the top, and witness a spectacular 360 panorama of the entire town and archipelago. Near the cathedral, you can find the best Gelato in the region in the Donat Ice cream shop.

Nearby, you will also be able to see the Monastery of St. Mary, where you can visit the famous exhibit inside the church -the  “Gold and Silver of Zadar”. From this location, you can take a stroll along Kalelarga – the main street which will lead you to the main square.

The People’s Square – Everything that has ever mattered in Zadar, happened on this square. The People’s Square is the centre of urban life, a place where locals enjoy their macchiatos and a place that draws visitors in with a unique atmosphere. Here you will find the first lamp ever put in town, as well as City hall and main street Via Magna, also known as Kalelarga. If you keep walking straight, you will find St. Simon’s church and the 5 wells square.

The Five Wells Square – This unique system of cisterns with 5 wells from 1574 once saved the city from an Ottoman siege, providing it with water from Lake Vrana. Today, this square is a popular clubbing destination with 2 clubs surrounding it. Svarog bar near the 26m tall Captain’s Tower and Ledana Lounge bar on the left in the park of Queen Jelena Madijevka. These clubs provide a unique blend of experiences, mixing ancient with the modern, alongside great music.

The Foša harbour and the Land Gate – This charming little harbour hides three spectacular things. First, the Venetian Landgates, followed by a fine-dining restaurant also named Foša, and lastly, a UNESCO heritage site i.e. the fortifications of Zadar. These mighty walls were considered impenetrable, and they defended the city from all conquerors for centuries.

The Sea Organ & Greeting to the Sun installations – Just a step or two from your moored yacht, you can stumble upon 2 unique installations. “Greeting to the Sun” is a solar-powered installation, made by the famous architect Nikola Bašić. It represents our solar system while performing a spectacular light show after sunset. On the same spot, you will find the magnificent Sea Organs, which will let you listen to the symphony of the sea.

Yacht Charter in Zadar greeting to the sun

The Footbridge & the Rowing Boatmen – the Zadar peninsula is connected to the mainland part of the city with the Footbridge, which is within a 10-minute walking distance from the Zadar marina. You can enjoy a tranquil stroll around the marina and cross the footbridge to get into the Old Town, but there is a faster way.

The Rowing boatmen will take you from the Marina Zadar pier to  Oldtown in no time. Venice has gondoliers, and Zadar has boatmen! For centuries now, from dawn until dusk, the hardworking boatmen row in their orange wooden boats transporting people across the channel. Moor your yacht in Marina Zadar, and try out a traditional rowing boat ride across the blackwater, for a much faster route to the city centre.

All this makes Konoba Ravni Žakan a unique fine-dining spot in an unbelievable surrounding, far away from prying eyes.

Šporka Mare – visit the oldest restaurant around the Kornati islands archipelago. This historic place is located on the south shore of the islet Katina, near the Proversa Vela channel (the north gate of Kornati National Park) and is owned by a family which kept it running for 4 generations.

They received the bare island Katina in the 19th century from Zadar’s noblemen and that’s where the story begins. The old family stone house on the shore was a storm shelter for fishermen, but also a place for unloading fishing nets.

Slowly, this shelter for fishermen and sailors became the first restaurant on the Kornati islands, and over time it got an outstanding reputation among yacht lovers, fishermen and sailors, who named it after its owner – grandma Mare. Today this restaurant is a must-visit spot for yacht charters in Zadar, famous for its extraordinary seafood dishes and fine impeccable service. Enjoy top-notch seafood made from Mare’s cookbook and served in traditional hand-made pottery.

Konoba Opat – Discover an eco-friendly paradise in Opat bay in the heart of the marvellous Kornati Islands. This extraordinary restaurant will welcome you with warm hospitality, professional service and a stone house restaurant made of eco-friendly materials.

You will enjoy fresh seafood on the open-air terrace by the sea in Konoba Opat and witness the stunning vistas while you enjoy Mediterranean cuisine. Relax in a unique Dalmatian atmosphere, extraordinary views and a 1st class fine-dining restaurant incorporated into the natural environment.

Restaurant Core & Lounge bar is a modern, impeccably designed venue in Vrulje bay. Enjoy homemade food and a great selection of wine and fantastic view of the Kornati archipelago. All the dishes in Core have a traditional base implemented with innovative culinary methods and chic ingredients.

Except for mouth-watering gourmet food, this place will offer a stunning lounge bar, with a glamping resort nearby. Day 1: Zadar – Ugljan – Pašman

Start your yacht charter in Zadar by visiting the nearby islands of Ugljan and Pašman. Located only 2.5 nautical miles from Zadar, Ugljan will take your breath away with its lush landscapes.

This green island is a perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and the summer crowds. On your way from Zadar to Ugljan, make sure to visit the smallest inhabited island in the Adriatic – Galevac.

There you can explore the Franciscan monastery in the heart of the islet. Afterwards, drop your anchor in Mala Lamjana bay, one of the largest and most beautiful coves on Ugljan island. Here, you can find diverse underwater life with plenty of fish and shellfish, skittering on the sandy sea bottom.

Sail from Ugljan to the nearby island of Pašman and experience the true meaning of the Adriatic spirit. Ask your charter crew to anchor your yacht charter in a private bay and sunbathe in complete privacy, under the shade of pine trees, while your diligent crew serve refreshing cocktails and terrific finger food.

Day 2: Pašman – Galešnjak

Pašman is connected to Ugljan island via the bridge, so you can take a bike ride along Ugljan and Pašman or hop on your Vespa and enjoy breathtaking views while you ride. Because of its unique character, this place overwhelms your soul and enters the pores of your innermost being.

We suggest dropping anchor in Kobiljak cove, a secluded bay adorned with exceptional beauty. This bay is exposed to the scirocco wind, and it has a 4-10 m deep sandy bottom. Another lovely cove, where you can enjoy the surreal beauty of Pašman island is St. Ante Bay.

This bay is located on the SW coast of the island, and it is one of the favourite anchorages for yachts on Pašman island. This bay was named after the nearby church of St. Ante, which you can visit with your tender. The SuperYacht Croatia Team will gladly procure a Vespa, a motorcycle, an e-bike, a quad or a scooter, so you can enjoy exploring 2 islands of remarkable beauty.

Nearby, in the Pašman Channel, you will find the heart-shaped island of Galešnjak – a world-famous “Island of love”. It is so popular that even the world-famous singer Beyonce celebrated her 39th birthday here . The island has an area of 0.132 square meters, and although it is small in size, it has a grand effect on people. Even Forbes recognized that! Galesnjak was on the Forbes list of the most romantic Valentine’s destinations.

Day 3: Kornati Islands

This labyrinth of remarkable beauty, according to the legend, was created from the rocks that God had left after creating the world. He tossed them into the sea and decided the Kornati were so perfect that nothing else needed to be changed.

On your cruising adventures around the stunning Kornati islands , notice the incredible landscape of the Kornati crowns (cliffs) which were shaped by the sea. These magnificent cliffs will make your cruise worthwhile and impress you over and over.

No matter if you are a beginner or an experienced scuba diver, you can enjoy snorkeling around Kornati or diving with your private diving instructor to explore the Kornati underwater crowns, which are full of colourful marine life. We suggest the spots around Piškera and Rašip islands.

Kornati Islands are also recognized as famous gastronomical heaven for yachts. Moor right in front of numerous restaurants and enjoy exquisite fine dining, as well as various seafood and unmatched service. The SuperYachts Croatia team will make sure you have the best seats in the 1st class restaurant of your choice.

Day 4: Telašćica Nature Park

Apart from pristine bays, you will get to discover majestic white cliffs, roaring 200m above sea level, mighty and unmovable.

You will also have the opportunity to visit the salty lake “Mir” ( translated to “peace” in Croatian) and soak in its waters, which are known to possess healing properties. You can also discover countless private coves around its 13 surrounding islands; witness this lush Eden of the Adriatic, also home to more than 500 different plant species.

Imagine starting your day snorkeling with numerous colourful marine animals, sponges and corals that have found their home in this exceptional park.

Day 5: Dugi Otok

Drop your anchor at Sakarun , the best wild beach in Croatia, famous for its white sand and crystal clear sea. There are a few beach bars that offer cocktails, lounging areas and light snacks. Enjoy the fine white sand and Caribbean colours, which are truly a unique phenomenon in the Adriatic.

This 800-meter-long lagoon offers enough space for a perfect beach escape under a lush pine forest. Since Sakarun bay slopes very gently, kids can splash around in the sea and play in the sand as they please.

For your next spot on Dugi Otok, we suggest exploring the majestic Golubinka sea cave. Here, you can dive straight into the ‘underground world’ and discover a beautiful pebbly cave beach. Outside the cave, you can try cliff jumping, if you are up for the challenge, or just relax and enjoy the shallow turquoise Brbišćica

Drop your anchor in stunning Pantera Bay, one of the most beautiful and popular destinations for yachtsmen, located on the northwestern side of the island. From here you can take a relaxing walk through the pine forest and explore the Punta Bianca at Veli Cape,  overlooking the majestic bays of Dugi Otok .

Besides the extraordinary nature, Dugi Otok is also home to the remains of a 70 meters long military tunnel. used for sheltering submarines. Explore this fantastic army hideout and find out more about submarine warfare in the Adriatic from your knowledgeable crew.

Day 6: Silba – Olib

On Silba island, experience a unique snorkeling adventure and discover hidden treasures beneath the surface of the sea, better known as the sunken sarcophagi near Pocukmarak bay. On the other hand, you could also enjoy swimming in the crystal-clear sea near the sandy Sotorišće Bay or just take a nice and relaxing walk through an island without any cars or traffic.

Visit the Open Air Art gallery and admire the unique sculptures made by the Croatian sculptress Marija Ujević- Galetović. Cruise with your yacht charter to the nearby island Olib and moor your yacht near Slatina bay on Olib island, which will charm you with its stunning seabed.

Refresh yourself with an afternoon dip in St. Nikola bay, full of untouched nature. Feel the sand beneath your feet as you relax with a refreshing drink or a cocktail in the shallow sandy lagoon and soak up the surroundings. Enjoy exploring the countless secluded coves, dive with exciting fish species or just relax in your yacht pool, far away from the crowd with a spectacular view.

Yacht Charter in Zadar Silba and Olib islands

Day 7: Olib – Pag – Velebit – Zadar

On your last day of yacht charter in the Zadar area, you can observe the majestic landscape or Croatia`s biggest mountain chain, by cruising through the Velebit Channel and enjoying the view of the islands and the Velebit mountain range. Be sure to visit the island of Pag, which is full of culinary surprises.

Yacht Charter in Zadar Pag Island

Try Paški cheese and Paška lamb and enjoy the magnificent views of the bare and unreal surface of Pag.

Zrće beach is one of the best spots for electronic music in Europe and every year it hosts numerous big names from the electronic scene (Guetta, Tiesto, Garrix, Carl Cox, Hardwell, Van Buuren, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike..) with world-known celebrities.

Spoil Yourself: All across the Adriatic there is a vast amount of lavish stuff to experience. Imagine sailing from one magical island to the next enjoying a fancy fish dinner, or perhaps getting a massage while listening to the waves.

Sounds perfect, right? That’s the kind of pampering you get on a luxury yacht!

The Professional Crew: One of the coolest things about a luxury yacht? The crew. They're like your personal team of marine experts. T

hey steer the boat, create delicious food, uncover all the hidden gems of the islands, and pretty much ensure everything's smooth sailing.

So, you can just relax and soak up the fun…and the rays!! They’ve got this!

All in all, a luxury yacht charter in Croatia isn't just your normal run-of-the-mill boat ride. It's a magical VIP experience where you're treated like a superstar.

Popular Yachting Destinations Near Zadar

Now that we've got you all excited about cruising around the Adriatic and its countless islands on a luxury yacht, let's talk about some of the must-visit spots in Croatia.

We will only touch on a few, as there are so many fabulously stunning locations all down the coast of Croatia, but we will look at a few areas we are very familiar with.

Pag Island Coast

Novalja: First up, we have the festival mecca of Pag Island . Think of it as a giant playground on the sea! With awesome beaches and world-famous electronic music festivals with lavish VIP areas , there's never a dull moment here.

Plus, they make one of the most famous cheeses in the world so you've got to try. We are based in the town of Novalja so, of course, we are a little biased but it really is a very popular luxury yachting charter destination.

There is also a huge new port being built that will for 2024 and that will most certainly see a big increase in luxury yachting in the region.

Olib: Next, set your sails towards Olib. Olib is quite near to the island of pag but is a much quieter island, perfect if you're in the mood for some peace and calm.

And another huge plus? Cars aren’t a big thing here, so it's all about those chilled island vibes.

Silba: Next to Olib is Silba.  It's known as the “pedestrian island” because, like Olib, there are almost no cars. Perfect for long walks, beach picnics, and building epic sandcastles. The waters around Silba and Olib are that blue and clear you will feel like you have sailed to Mauritius.

Ilovik: Welcome to the 'Island of Flowers'! Ilovik is a colorful treat with stunning gardens everywhere. If you are a nature lover, this spot will feel like the perfect dream. There are also some amazing restaurants where you dock your yacht literally next to the tables!

Zadar: Last but not least, our local city. Zadar is like the cool big sibling of all these islands. It's a mix of old-timer charm mixed together with some modern buzz.

What you have to remember is that there are several Croatian National Parks within easy reach of Zadar. So it is a BIG destination for luxury yachting in Croatia

Kornati National Park: One of the national parks I mentioned above is Kornati . Are you prepared for a nature overload? This place is a cluster of islands that'll make your jaw drop.

Crystal-clear blue waters, hidden mystical coves, and a wonderfully peaceful vibe – it’s a slice of paradise on Earth.

Dalmatian Coast

Split: This famous city's got a mix of the old and the new. We love the old Roman palace and the walkways inside that ancient wall. Imagine a Roman palace next to bustling cafes and shops. And the seafront promenade? Just wow!

Dubrovnik: Ever dreamt of walking through a fairytale? Dubrovnik, with its massive stone walls and historic buildings, is the place for that dream. You might even recognise it from an extremely famous TV series! Does Game of Thrones spring to mind? To be honest, you can totally understand why the director picked this magnificent location.

Hvar: It's not just an island; it's also another stylish party island in Croatia! Sun, music, and dance all combined – Hvar knows how to bring the glam and the luxury together.

Istrian Peninsula

Rovinj: Just imagine this – colorful centuries-old houses, cobblestone streets, and the smell of fresh seafood. That's Rovinj for you in a nutshell, an absolutely perfect postcard spot.

Pula: History buffs, this one’s for you! Pula's most famous spot is certainly the ancient Roman amphitheater that's super cool. Lots of concerts and festivals are held there. It's a weird one,  watching a concert where gladiators once stood! But also unforgettable.

We could go on for hours about the countless destinations along the Croatia coastline that will simply “Wow” you!

However, the best way to uncover these hidden gems is by renting a luxury yacht in Croatia and becoming your own sea adventurer! There is so much to discover.

Best Time to Charter a Yacht in Zadar

Hopefully, by now you are definitely thinking about cruising around Croatia on a luxury yacht, yep?

Well, I hope so! But when's the best time to go ?

Sunny Summer Fun: If you love hot weather, blue skies, and warm swimming sea waters, summer (around mid-June to August) is most definitely your jam. The sea's perfect for swimming in, and there's a lively buzz of continental tourism everywhere.

But remember, it's also the busiest time of the year because, well, who doesn't love the sun?

That means booking restaurants and activities well in advance and maybe even hiring a local concierge to do all the heavy lifting for you so you don’t have to get involved in all the bookings and boring stuff.

Cool and Calm Spring/Fall: Not a fan of big crowds or tropical heat? Try spring (April to June) or fall (September to October). It is actually one of our favourite times of the year. The weather's a bit milder but still glorious. And as a BONUS, the sea's still warm enough for a swim. It's like having the best of both worlds.

Winter Wonderland:   Okay, this might sound odd, but winter (November to March) also has its own unique charm! It's super tranquil, and the coastal towns have this cozy vibe.

But the only problem is that the sea gets chilly, and the weather can be more unpredictable, especially with Bura winds being much more regular,  so it's more about sipping hot coffee on-deck.

There's no wrong time to explore Croatia by luxury yacht. It all depends on your personal preferences.

Whether you're a sun-chaser or a serious sailor who doesn't care about the time of year, Croatia's got something extra special for you year-round.

Renting the Right Luxury Yacht in Zadar

Before committing to booking a luxury yacht,  let's chat about how to pick the perfect yacht.

Think of it like choosing the best ice cream flavor. Everyone's got their favorite, right? Here's how to find yours:

Size Matters: First up, how big of a luxury yacht do you need? How many people will be in your sailing group?

If you're bringing lots of friends and family, definitely go for a bigger yacht. If it is just for you you and a couple of pals or a romantic trip for two? A smaller yacht might be your speed.

Sail or Motor: Some yachts have big, beautiful sails, and they let the wind push them along.

Motorboat cruisers are a completely different experience so ask yourself: Are you in the mood to glide or speed?

Check out our luxury motorboat feature here, it will answer many of your questions.

Yacht features: Want a yacht with a slide or a jet ski? Or maybe one with a mini movie theatre? Yachts can come with all sorts of insanely luxurious extras.

So, dream a bit and see what tickles your fancy, and make sure you check out the features and specs of the vessels you are considering chartering.

Budget Time: Just like picking a luxury villa or luxury apartment , you have to think about how much you want to spend. There are luxury yachts for all budgets, from super luxury with a BIG price tag to comfy and cozy lower-priced options.

Remember, the best luxury yacht in Croatia isn't the biggest or the most expensive. It's, without doubt,  the one that makes your heart go, "Yep, that's EXACTLY the one!" Go with your gut!

So, take your time choosing, pick your perfect luxury yacht, and get ready for the adventure of a lifetime. After all, that’s what it's all about, isn't it?

Tips for a Memorable Yachting Trip in Croatia

Ready for an unforgettable Adriatic vacation on the water? Let's make sure your luxury yachting trip in Croatia is one for the memory books with these handy tips:

Pack Smart: Always bring along sunblock, shades, and a hat to stay sun-safe. Oh, and don't forget your swimsuit collection as you should be spending a lot of time sunbathing or in the water.

Worried about getting seasick? Fear not. Pack some sea-sickness bands or sea-sickness tablets. I get seasick badly and I find tablets incredibly effective. They're like magic for keeping things steady on the waves.

Tunes & Tales: Bring some music along! Most luxury yachts in Croatia have state-of-the-art sound systems. So take advantage of that feature. We have been on yachts where they even have DJs playing so sound waves can be extra special whilst riding the waves.

Get to know the crew: They will have loads of cool sea stories and all the insider information about secret spots to explore in the area.

Be Adventurous: See a pretty uninhabited island or a hidden cove or beach? Ask the crew if you can stop and explore. Remember, it's your adventure! EXPLORE!

Capture the Moment: Don't forget your camera or smartphone. Snap pics of sunsets, and dolphins and capture those Croatian moments forever.

With these handy tips in your back pocket, you're all set for a luxury yachting trip in Croatia that you'll be talking about for years.

Legal and Practical Considerations (The Boring Stuff!)

Before we jump into all the fun stuff, let's chat about the boring stuff. These are some important things you have to keep in mind. Think of this as the "rule book"  for chartering a luxury yacht in Croatia.

Stay Licensed: Just like you need a license to drive a car or a motorbike, you might need one for yachting. Check if you or your captain have the right papers. It's your driving license to sail!

Insurance is Key: Sailing doesn’t come without its risks. It is rare but accidents can happen and that is exactly what insurance is for.

Make sure your yacht has it. It's a big thumbs up for smooth sailing and peace of mind of course. And don’t forget to have your own personal travel insurance arranged.

Safety First: Every yacht has safety gear like life jackets, rafts, and first-aid kits. Know where they are and, more importantly, know how they should be used correctly.

Fingers crossed, you'll never need them. But it's good to be prepared and your professional crew will brief you fully ion all aspects if safety and how to use the safety gear.

Know the Local Rules: Each region will have its own sea rules and regulations. It's like playing a game where each level has different challenges.

For example, you are not allowed to fish in Kornati National Park. The marine life is protected.

So, learn about them, and you'll be the champion of the sea.

Be Earth-Friendly: The ocean is our home, our only home!  So let's keep it clean! Avoid tossing trash overboard.

That is a VERY BIG NO-NO! And if you spot any trash floating around? Be an eco-hero and pick it up.

With these super simple rules in place, you're all set for a safe and smart voyage.

"Anchors away!"

Book it: Found the right one? Now, just like booking a villa, you'll sign a paper (or maybe click a button online) to confirm your booking. But please do the correct online security checks to ensure the company exists and is not a scam platform. These are becoming more common these days.

The location was perfect. Outside the hustle and bustle of old town and provided a nice walk in every day. It has no kerb appeal, but once inside was beautiful. Modern, clean - every bedroom has its own balcony. I am quite fussy and it exceeded my expectations for the price.

How guest reviews work

Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.

You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.

We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.

Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.

Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):

  • Politically sensitive comments
  • Promotional content
  • Illegal activities
  • Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
  • Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
  • Spam and fake content
  • Animal cruelty
  • Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
  • Any violation of our review guidelines.

To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.

An accommodation can reply to a review.

When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.

Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

Guidelines and Standards for Reviews

These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.

Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.

Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.

All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).
