Ludlow Bromley Yacht Club

Ratings and reviews, location and contact.

A summer hangout landmark on the Ohio River is a fun place to be wit locals, boaters and people who come to LBYC from all over the area. Good food, friendly service and good times. Weeknights are special features like "Steak night" where you grill... your own steak, draws in a good crowd. During the winter months when LBYC is closed the owners open their winter hangout, The Lagoon Saloon, a fun place to be, always something going on. Unfortunately, LBYC was hit by a barge on October 2nd and destroyed the local landmark, a total loss. However the owners are anxious to rebuild and bring back the nostalgic landmark folks from all over have grown to love since 1997. More

The Yacht Club is a must. Although the only set back of this bar is that it is a cash only bar. It has great deals on drinks. Especially $9 Blanton’s pours (should be a crime serving it that cheap) if you like bourbon. My... friends and I had a great time and love going here. More

Thank you very much, KentuckyBulldog, for leaving us this wonderful feedback. We are very happy that your experience with us was fantastic from start to finish. We can't wait to serve you again. Thank you, KentuckyBulldog!

I was visiting the area and invited down to the Ludlow Bronley Yacht Club or LBYC as I learned by the locals. I was expecting a yacht club as we have them here on the east coast. I bit pretentious, private, expensive and hard to... get in without being a guest. But I found a fun collection of open barges, with seating spread out over a very large area. Lot's of greenery and seating sections spread out. Large fans pushed the air around when it became stuffy. Your east coast Yacht club it was not. But a fun open air bar and grille. It floats on the Ohio river just west of Cincinnati. That day the river was swollen and brown from upstream rains. It was a little ominous but not alarming and river traffic was almost nill so there were virtually no waves creating a wake on the barge. The menu was basic, but you aren't there for that. You are there to visit, have fun a few drinks and laugh with friends. I met up with friends I hadn't seen in years and we have a great time. The ride is about a 7$ taxi from the better Covington hotels so it's convenient if you tie a few too many on and need a ride back to town. I am sure the story of how this place started and grew is crazy and it's nothing but a series of floating barges and platforms tied together with some rubber bands and duck tape. (Just kidding) I found the mens bathroom amusing. I cannot tell you when I have seen an 8 foot urinal with cup holders. I do recommend it. Even with it's oddities. Go, have fun. More

Nice place on the river but the food is served cold and greasy. We had the Fish Sandwich and cheese fries , never had cheese fries made with cheese wiz and served cold.. The onion chips are served ice cold and greasy too. The service... is good but they need to work on there food. Friends had the prime rib which looked like a slice of roast beef with salty beef juice. Pretty bad.. Glad I did not get the prime rib...more of a bar not a resturant. More

Ludlow Bromley Yacht Club is a fun family friendly place to enjoy eats and drinks while sitting along the river. Plenty of outdoor seating and nice music. Food is pretty good. Service is very slow but if you aren't in a hurry it's a great... place to relax. Friday and Saturday the nightlife (adults) is a lot of fun too! Small cover but well worth it! More

Wow - Place had so much potential, but didn't live up any of them. When we arrived around 6:00 pm service was ok, but then just deteriorated as the night went on. by 9:00 or so it was non-existent! Food was ok ~ once they... finally got the order correct. Definitely not worth the 45 minute............ More

I have heard about LBYC for many years but never had a desire to try it. BIG MISTAKE on my part. A group of friends invited us to join them recently. What a great place. The atmosphere is bright and colorful. It sits on the... Ohio river and gives you a feeling of being on a beach in Florida. But, this is just the beginning. The food is fantastic. Thursday is "Rib Night" so I got the special. I have never had better ribs. My wife got a grouper sandwich. She said it was as good as any she has ever had. We might have had the best server ever. Her name is Christin. There were 10 people at our table and she never missed a beat. Everyone got what they wanted when they wanted it. She was very attentive, friendly and pretty. ( I hope I'm allowed to say that.) Bottom line is, this was our first time at L.B.Y.C. but it won't be our last. We will be back often. More

LBYC is a local hangout for anyone familiar with the area as well as some new influence ever once in a while. Dependable service with an atmosphere of fun.

Best Fish Tacos on the Ohio river and possibly anywhere. I hate to see them closing for the season, I need at least one more taste before winter. We arrive via boat and love it! Great food & drink at a good value too.

It is located on KY Rt. 8 between the I-71/75 bridge and Anderson Ferry, across the Ohio River for Addyston. We arrived by auto, but you can also tie up your boat to one of the several barges that comprise the restaurant. On a sunny... Saturday with puffy clouds in the sky and a temperature around 80 degrees, low humidity and a nice breeze, the setting was perfect. The place was crowded, so service was a little late, but friendly and helpful. Food is good. Ambiance is exceptional. More

We were boating and stopped here for a 3pm lunch on a Saturday. It was busy, but still lots of seats. There are many indoor and outdoor different types of seating options. I liked the atmosphere, and if you drove here to eat, you can... check out the different boats that pull up. Or, eat inside and check out the sports on TV. Looks like they were getting set up for the band. Had the grouper sandwich. Wow. Amazing. Nicely seasoned on a big folded piece of pita bread. Everyone at the table wished they had ordered it. Will be back! More

This is a floating restaurant and bar that we visited today. It has a nice marina feel with lots of room to dock your boat. The place was busy but not as busy as it usually is on a Friday evening. The joint was jumping... both at the bar and at the inside and outside dining. They had at least fourteen servers who were all really busy providing good customer service. The food was great bar food, steak hoagies, burgers, fries and wraps and BEER. Not gourmet but tasty. Great view of the river and the boat traffic. On a beautiful afternoon like today it was a great time. Had a band playing that was really good and folks were arriving just to enjoy the music and the bar. This is a really nice place for a good time, friends, music and food. More

I wanted to try someplace new and along the river for my birthday. A friend of mine suggested the Ludlow Bromley Yacht Club. It was very casual. The restaurant are on barges that float on the river, so to rocks when boats go by. That... is part of the fun of the ambiance. It kind of reminded me of a Margaritaville restaurant. It was seat yourself so we wondered outside for a view of the river. We were there for lunch so the menu wasn't huge but had quite a few choices. I settled for a simple grilled ham and cheese with tater tots. The sandwich was made perfect, no complaints and the tater tots were the perfect amount of crunchiness. My friend had the Chicken Parmesan sandwich and I was surprised at how big it was. She said it was pretty good. I saw they have steak night on Monday nights, so we may have to try that with the rest of the family. The only things that I noticed that bothered me a little bit was that there were cobwebs on the silverware on the caddy which was brought out. But you are along the river outside with lots of bugs, etc, so it wasn't that big of a deal. The one thing you do have to watch is that they are CASH only. There is an ATM on site for those who forget. More

Stopped by the LBYC for lunch. They have a good variety on their menu. Service was very attentive. Plenty of parking available. It is a good walk from the lot to the floating reataurant, especially leaving. It's all uphill.

We like to stop by and have lunch on our way out of Cinci. Dining on a barge on the river and the atmosphere makes you feel like you are on vacation. Food is pretty good as well. While there are ramps to get into... the restaurant, it is still a little difficult if you have anyone who needs assistance. More

Thanks for leaving us a review, Teresa. We appreciate all your feedback - good and bad - because we will use the information to continue to improve our guests' experiences! Hopefully we will have the pleasure of serving you again soon.

PD: Ludlow Bromley Yacht Club ‘total loss’ after barge crash

bromley yacht club ludlow ky

LUDLOW, Ky. — Server Kelly Gannon watched as parts of the beloved Ludlow Bromley Yacht Club sank into the Ohio River Wednesday morning.

The Ludlow staple is a total loss after a barge slammed into it at about 6 a.m., according to Chief Scott Smith. One person was aboard the barge when it crashed; no one was injured. Smith said the kitchen was sinking by Wednesday morning. Tables, bars and refrigerators were also starting to go underwater.

Gannon said the Yacht Club is much more than a floating bar and restaurant — to her, it’s home. The joint reminds her of her mother, who passed away last year.

“She loved coming down here and eating with my dad and everything ... so it’s memories, a lot of memories,” Gannon said.

It's not yet clear how the crash happened; the impact nearly split the bar and restaurant in half and sent six boats adrift in the river.

The popular spot bumps to live music and large crowds on the weekends. Smith said he recognizes the crash could have been much worse.

“A Thursday night, a Friday night, a Saturday night, it would've been — it would’ve been a major problem,” Smith said.

Had the crash happened 45 minutes later, crews would have been opening the restaurant for the day, Smith said.

Gannon said she is devastated that the Ludlow Bromley Yacht Club might be gone for good.

"Next couple of weeks, I think they are getting ready to end their season down here, but shouldn’t have to go out like this,” Gannon said.

Bromley Mayor Mike Denham is ready to do whatever he can to keep the business alive, he said Wednesday night after a city council meeting.

His city comprises only a few hundred people and sports no bars of its own. Ludlow is home to a little under 5,000. According to Denham, the Yacht Club connected and bolstered both small communities.

“I hope to God that Steve has enough energy to bring it back,” he said, referring to club owner Steve Gott. “If that don’t come back, we’re losing something precious that either Ludlow or Bromely hasn’t had.”

Gott did not immediately respond to reporters’ requests for comment about the future of his sunken business

The Coast Guard is investigating the crash.

Editor’s Note: Unfortunately, the LBYC experienced a terrible accident last year and was heavily damaged. The restaurant is planning on opening up again someday, but for now it is closed.

We all know Kentucky is not known for its tropical climate, but that doesn’t mean we can’t experience that same vibe at many places throughout our state. If you love the idea of heading to the tropics without leaving the Bluegrass State, you’re in luck. We previously featured the tasty oasis that is Flamingo Row in Paducah, but there’s another tiki bar paradise in Northern Kentucky at the Ludlow Bromley Yacht Club. This floating tiki bar and restaurant has the colorful tropical atmosphere that feels just like vacation and it’s the ultimate spot for every Kentuckian to spend a summer day.

Barge slams into Ludlow Bromley Yacht Club

by David Winter, WKRC

A barge hit the Ludlow Bromley Yacht Club Wednesday morning. (WKRC)

LUDLOW, Ky. ( WKRC ) - A violent collision Wednesday morning on the Ohio River destroyed a yacht club and closed the river to all traffic.

A 1,200-foot barge went off course and crashed into the Ludlow Bromley Yacht Club. The Coast Guard says the river will likely remain closed in the four-mile stretch south of Cincinnati until all the debris can be cleared, which will likely take well into Wednesday evening.

Crews spent the day trying to find safe harbors for the boats that remain at the harbor and the ones that the rogue barge carried upriver several hundred yards. The barge sits upriver with pleasure boats and part of the Ludlow Bromley Yacht Club still wedged against it — the result of the violent collision Wednesday morning.

“I just saw everything getting pushed up -- the docks -- the outside river docks getting pushed up against my boat and I was in a state of panic,” Matthew Hoerst, the harbormaster, said. “I took off running; I was going the other way.”

The barge missed Hoerst by a matter of feet. He lives aboard a houseboat in the harbor.

“I was yelling to the helm and anybody who would’ve heard me on that boat,” he said.

Kelly Gannon is a waitress at the yacht club.

“I was having my morning coffee, and I heard the paramedics and firetrucks go past the house and I turned on the police scanner and heard a barge had just hit the Ludlow Bromley Yacht Club and I about freaked out. I’m like, 'Wow!'” Gannon said.

Gannon is now one of dozens who are trying to figure out their next moves. She is now out of a job. Others are wondering if their boats are still afloat.

“Somebody sent me a picture that showed it was still floating,” said Keith Obanion. “I’ll see if it is; I have no idea. It was taken up the river."

"We have a big sale on boats here this weekend," he laughed.

Police are saying had this happened at a different time, there could have been mass casualties.

“It was a best-case scenario for us,” said Ludlow Police Chief Scott Smith. “If this was on a Thursday night or Friday night or Saturday night, it would’ve been a major problem”

“I’m wondering what happened,” said Gannon. “I mean, how could this happen? How could a barge just hit something right there when they’ve got all this technology?”

That question is front of mind for the Coast Guard, who at a press briefing Wednesday said they have spoken with the towboat captain but would reveal no other details about the interview or the rest of the investigation. It leaves more questions than answers for those affected by the collision, like Gannon.

  • More on the investigation here

“A lot of people are are going to be devastated out here today over this," she said.

Fish and Wildlife also on scene, reporting that there was no spill or other contamination due to the collision. The Coast Guard says its investigation could take weeks or even months to complete.
