Modern investment company. Investments are real estate, oil wells, loans, stocks, bond, startups, etc. Looking for something modern, clean and sophisticated . Needs to convey a level of status and maturity, but not stuffy or outdated . Might be interesting to include something nautical since that aligns with the meaning of the word "halliard" , but i dont want it to look corny or cliche . Nautical is not a necessity . The word "holdings" in the logo is not 100% necessary either, would be open to having a logo without it .

Simplicity was something this particular client wanted us designers to focus on. I think I have achieved all goals - resulting in elegant, exclusive and simple logo. After presenting several options, my work has been chosen to the final round. Thanks to very good communication and feedback I was able to create artwork close to the client expectations. " A " was used as a logo / brand mark resembling top of the yacht or mast.

The request was to create a logo for a Yacht in the style of late '20s , early '30s. I've used art deco elements providing a strong and distinguishable silhouette.

The unspoken rules about how to behave on a superyacht

• The superyachting world is very small, with only 5,800 yachts longer than 30 meters at sea.
• That insularity has bred a specific etiquette, which is often hard for outsiders to know about.
• These are the de facto rules of the most expensive billionaire toys, superyachts .

For the owners of superyachts , privacy is often the most valuable thing money can buy. It's one reason centimillionaires and billionaires pay eight or nine figures for a palace at sea, far from the prying eyes of land dwellers.

Even the most gossipy crew members should stay tight-lipped about the name of a former owner or charter guest, and many brokers shy away from answering benign questions.

That means that, aside from basic safety guidelines, most of the rules of superyachting are unwritten. The very few who need to know them — there are only about 5,800 yachts longer than 30 meters at sea, according to SuperYacht Times — already know them.

But if you do happen to be a lucky guest at a party on a billionaire's $500 million ship or find yourself included in a $1 million-a-week vacation, there are a few things you need to know.

After four days of touring superyachts that sell for as much as $75 million and chatting with the people who buy, sell, and work on them at the Palm Beach International Boat Show , Business Insider gleaned a few key edicts. Given the discreet nature of the industry, almost all the people we spoke with requested anonymity to protect their working relationships, but here's what they had to say.

Take off your shoes

While it's a basic rule for anyone in boating, it may come as a surprise to an outsider that no matter how rich you are or how expensive your heels are, in the vast majority of cases, you can't wear shoes on board.

It's partly for safety — you don't want anyone slipping on a wet deck — but partly to keep the yacht clean. So expect to see barefoot billionaires, and if you forgot to get a pedicure, bring a set of special boat shoes.

Don't make any assumptions about money — but know the signs

In the superyacht world, it's safe to assume almost everyone you meet is very, very rich, and many brokers and builders say you can't judge a book by its cover when it comes to prospective clients.

"It has nothing to do with how they're dressed," one broker told BI. "It's the biggest mistake you can make because a complete slobby-looking guy or couple could be a multibillionaire."

There are, however, a few clues. Watches are one; new footwear is another.

"Rich people always have new shoes," a superyacht expert said. But because of the shoe rule mentioned above, this tip probably applies only when they're on land.

Book your massage early

Wellness areas, including spa rooms with a massage bed or two and a professional-grade facial machine, are becoming must-haves on superyachts . Most have a customized spa menu and a crew member who doubles as a trained masseuse or beautician — and they're usually in high demand.

One captain said he'd implemented a booking system to ensure people weren't fighting for the same spots. A broker said sometimes masseuses would be so busy they wouldn't leave the small spa cabin for hours on end.

Pirates are more real than you'd think, and many superyachts have hidden safe rooms

While you might dress up as a fake pirate for an onboard theme party, there are very real ones — and other dangers — on the high seas.

In certain areas, including parts of the Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden, pirates are a cause of concern . In the Red Sea, owners are concerned about the Houthis .

Superyachts can come equipped with sonic weaponry, lockdown systems, and anti-drone protection. Builders are even designing safe rooms — which are apparently just as plush as the rest of the ship.

The longer the boat, the closer to $1 billion

While you can't judge a buyer based on appearances, you can judge them on the length of their boat.

One rule of thumb: If someone has a brand-new 50-meter vessel, chances are they have $1 billion to their name. If it's over 100 meters, expect the owner to have at least $2 billion. And for a boat bigger than that — like Jeff Bezos' 127-meter megayacht Koru — it takes many, many billions.

Money can't buy you everything

The world's biggest, most expensive yachts are custom-built by shipyards that produce only a handful of boats a year.

But no matter how many tens of millions of dollars clients are spending, there are things to which builders will refuse to say yes.

"In the end, the boat has our name," an executive from one of the world's biggest shipyards told BI.

They recalled a client who requested a yellow hull to match his Lamborghini . The shipyard declined, steering the client in another direction.

"If I don't like it, I don't build it. I finalize two or three contracts a year," another builder said. "If somebody can say your vessel is ugly, my reputation is bad."

Yacht crews are trained to make the impossible possible. A guest requests fresh caviar flown into the middle of the Caribbean? No problem. Fresh flowers every day while at sea? It'll cost you, but it can be done.

But they can't time travel, and captains and crew members say the thing that causes the most friction is when a client or owner wants to go from point A to point B — right now.

"The hardest request is when they want the boat in a place — yesterday," one captain said.

The best person to know? A friend with a superyacht

Superyachts are expensive to build and expensive to maintain . According to the industry standard, owning a superyacht will cost 10% of its new-build price annually. For a $100 million yacht, that's at least $10 million yearly going to crew, regular maintenance, insurance, fuel, and dockage.

Chartering, too, is costly . Beyond the list price, which can be hundreds of thousands a week, guests must pay for provisions, which are pegged at 35% of the charter fee, and are expected to tip between 10% and 20%.

So the most important unspoken rule of superyachting is actually that the only thing better than owning a superyacht is knowing someone else who does — and invites you along, of course.

For ‘Ripley,’ Murder Is Easy — but the Aftermath Is a Different Story

The turning point for “Ripley,” Steven Zaillian’s limited Netflix series re-imagining of Patricia Highsmith’s crime novel, “The Talented Mr. Ripley,” occurs in Episode 3 (“Sommerso”), when grifter Tom Ripley ( Andrew Scott ) murders Dickie (Johnny Flynn) in a boat in Sanremo. But the grifter discovers that murder is a filthy business in a bravura 20-minute sequence, in which he has difficulty disposing of Dickie’s body, and we observe every arduous moment in close to real-time.

“I had written down on a post-it when I first started writing that ‘It’s easy to kill somebody but it’s really hard to get rid of the body,'” Zaillian  said at an early screening of the Netflix show  in New York City. “I hoped it would be interesting if we could see just how hard it is and to show it basically in real-time. And what seems like such a simple little thing, which is taking this body and throw it overboard, becomes like this herculean struggle for Andrew. We had to do it over and over again. He had to keep everything in mind, it was physically demanding because he was doing it….That’s Andrew really trying to climb [back up the boat]. It went on for about 10 minutes…..And it was important that we see that he never thinks ahead. First, Tom has to set fire to the anchor rope to loosen it and then gets tripped by the rope and thrown overboard. It’s bad enough that he has a fear of drowning, but the boat spins in circles and strikes him until he manages to pull the fuel line from the motor. After that, Tom must methodically sink the boat with small boulders in a nearby cove.

“That line was a pretty late addition,” Rogers told IndieWire. “Someone pointed out to me, who recently saw the show, that they appreciated Dickie’s reaction to being struck on the head by Tom because it’s so unexpected and shocking for him. He assumes Tom is a friend and he trusts him. So when he’s still reaching out a hand and asking for help, I thought that was particularly brilliant.”

Scott’s performance, though, did not deviate emotionally. What they added were some wide shots among the three camera angles of the boat to enhance what was almost exclusively a digital environment (including one of Tom swinging the oar to make him look smaller). Nearly the entire boat sequence was shot in an outdoor water tank in Italy surrounded by green screen with a lot of CG replacement by Wētā FX beside the two actors. “Steve talked to J.C. Chandor about shooting ‘All Is Lost’ on a real boat in the ocean,” Rogers said. “For that film, they tied boats to a dock and were shooting on open water. But the way this scene would look and the way the camera would be oriented, shooting in the tank seemed like the more practical solution.”

“So we see his hands and what they’re doing in extreme closeup and duration, and we tried to make the boat a character in the way that it comes after him in an almost supernatural way,” Rogers continued. “And how hard it was for him to climb back into the boat. That’s something that we worked really hard on with [Wētā FX] because there are full [digital] shots of the boat and the water and a CG double for Andrew, where we had to really design the framing and then position the boat in the frame and its movements.”

Scott did all of the heavy lifting himself for the aftermath disposal of the boat, shot on location at an Italian cove. The actor hauled around 50 boulders into the boat throughout an entire day and then scuttled the vessel. “The scuttling was a late change where we shortened that significantly,” said Rogers. “Andrew pushes that boat out full of rocks and then starts to use his weight to get water over the gunwale. And it’s really Andrew sinking the boat.”

Meanwhile, co-editor Lee found Rogers’ work on the murder sequence a helpful guide for cutting Tom’s impulsively desperate second murder in Episode 5 (“Lucio”). It’s a wild and lengthy misadventure in Rome, where Tom is thrown into a panic trying to dispose of the body up and down eight flights of stairs in an apartment, out onto the street, and into the victim’s car to drop off at a desolate place. After he takes a taxi back to the apartment, he suddenly realizes that he isn’t done covering his tracks yet, so he heads back to the car.

Discovered By Disaster is also set to deliver in fall 2024. Using cutting-edge CGI, archive footage and expert interviews, the series will   examine mysterious curiosities that have been uncovered by extreme weather and calamitous incidents. Episodes will look at everything from medieval skeletons, Mayan hieroglyphics, sunken shipwrecks and lost cities.

Secrets in the Dark will explore the blurred lines between science and the enigmatic, shedding light on unusual discoveries that turn up in dark, isolated locations. From the depths of ancient tombs to the mysteries of cursed artefacts, the series will look to unearth unsettling mysteries that challenge our understanding of the world. It is set to deliver in spring 2025.

The original Secrets in the Ice has sold to the likes of Sky History in the UK/Ireland; History in Benelux, Poland, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria and South Africa; ProSieben in Germany; Super Channel and Blue Ant Media in Canada; NatGeo in Asia; RTI in Italy; and Foxtel in Australia among other territories. It comes from Toronto-based Shark Teeth, which was co-founded by Adrian Carter and Tom Mudd.

Carter and Mudd — whose credits also include Secrets in the Jungle , Secrets of Big Data and Secrets in the Sand — added: ““At Shark Teeth Films, we are laser-focused on creating premium access-driven documentary franchises and unscripted content for global audiences. We would like to thank Boat Rocker for their support in bringing these new and established series to fruition.”

The deal comes on the eve of the final MIPTV , which will be held in Cannes next week.

Over 90 People Dead, Including Many Children, After Ferry Sinks Near Mozambique

HARARE, Zimbabwe — A makeshift ferry sank off Mozambique’s northern coast on Sunday, killing more than 90 people including children, local media reported.

The overcrowded boat was carrying 130 people and many of those who drowned were children, according to TV Diário Nampula, a local online outlet. The boat was operating between Lunga and the Island of Mozambique in Nampula province in the north of the country when it capsized, the report said.

Rescue efforts continued on Monday, as people were still reportedly missing.

Some people had been traveling to attend a fair while others were trying to “flee from Lunga to the Island of Mozambique for fear of being contaminated by cholera, which has affected that region in recent days,” TV Diário Nampula reported.

Other news reports quoted Jaime Neto, the secretary of state in Nampula province, as saying that misinformation about an alleged cholera outbreak caused people to panic and board the boat, which ordinarily serves as a fishing vessel, in an attempt to flee.

Mozambique and neighboring southern African countries Zimbabwe and Malawi have in recent months been affected by a deadly cholera outbreak that authorities are battling to contain.

Many areas of Mozambique are only accessible by boats, which are often overcrowded. The country has a poor road network and some areas are unreachable by land or air.

The boat was ferrying people from Lunga in Nampula province to the Island of Mozambique, he said, adding that initial reports indicated that it was hit by a tidal wave.

Most of those on board were trying to escape the mainland because of a panic caused by disinformation about cholera, according to Nampula’s Secretary of State Jaime Neto.

The passengers were fleeing a cholera outbreak , said state broadcaster TVM, quoting another local maritime administrator.

Neto also said the passengers were fleeing cholera, according to the BBC.

“Because the boat was overcrowded and unsuited to carry passengers, it ended up sinking,” he told the BBC, adding that many children were among the dead.

Videos posted on social media X showed many bodies lying on a beach and some people carrying the bodies of children. The Reuters news agency could not immediately verify these videos.

The Southern African country, one of the world’s poorest, has recorded almost 15,000 cases of waterborne disease and 32 deaths since October, according to government data.
