Laraki reveals images and details of 126m Privilege One motor yacht project

Abdeslam Laraki of Laraki Yacht Design has spoken to us about his design for the 126m Privilege One motor yacht project, few details of which have been previously released.

The yacht, which is number eight in our top 20 new projects, is currently in build at the Privilege yard in Civitavecchia, Italy and delivery is expected in 2013. Construction has also begun on a 137m yacht based on the same design.

‘I was called by Privilege in 2006,’ says Laraki. ‘They had seen some of my work and asked if I was interested in doing large boats over 100m, so we started collaborating. The project actually started as a slightly smaller boat, but as the design developed it grew about 7m.’

Laraki recalls that the yard asked for a something ‘recognisable but classical enough to withstand time’.

‘They already had a GA and some basic hull lines. I had to take both and build around that, creating the lines and aesthetics of the boat, respecting things like deck heights,’ says Laraki.

Among other amenities the yacht features five swimming pools, a beauty parlour, cinema, two helicopter pads and a submarine that emerges from the side of the hull. A full deck is split between the owner’s suite and one of the VIPs. ‘To have a VIP room that extends half the yacht is something unique,’ says Laraki.

Laraki had responsibility for the interior of the wheelhouse and took the opportunity to create an aesthetically ‘pure’ space. ‘It’s something really modern, probably much more than the outside looks of the yacht,’ says Laraki. ‘It’s a little like Star Trek in terms of pureness. We did our best to do everything with a certain flow and complicity that is a bit futuristic.’

An extra deck (making the overall complement eight) was added to the yacht during construction, placing the helicopter deck up-top.

Laraki reports that with the second Privilege hull in build, the yard intends to produce seven more of these yachts in the next 10 years.

Called a mansion on the seas, elegance, luxury and perfection characterize the Privilege One. The exterior has classic, elegant and contemporary lines along with a slender bow that gives the impression of a fast, streamlined ship. The bright, ultra modern interior features a lot of sweeping lines, chrome and reflective surfaces, unique custom furniture and features that enjoying life to the fullest. Possibly the most outstanding feature of the Privilege One are her gyroscopic and other technical features that eliminate most of the pitch, roll and noise inherent with ships of almost any size.

The owner’s suite is a 700-square-meter sleek retreat with a private elevator, balcony and private passageways to many of the yacht’s public areas. The large bedroom features his and her king-size beds on separate stabilized gyroscope platforms, two bathrooms, two dressing areas, two tea-comers, a sauna and Turkish bath. The owner’s bedroom opens up onto a 200-square-meter private deck with a crescent-shaped swimming pool and Jacuzzi along with ample room for sunning and enjoying the scenery. The VIP suite, at 550 square meters, also has a private elevator and the same amenities as the owner’s suite.

Privilege One can accommodate up to 28 passengers along with 54 crew members.  In addition to the owner and VIP suites, the ship’s guest suite area encompasses, 1,830 square meters with 12 individually themed suites at 150 square meters. Each private suite has its own private balcony, Jacuzzi, dressing rooms, mini gym, two bathrooms, studio, bedroom and tea corner. The themed suites have décor and furniture to match. The Roman suite for example, has a bath with mosaic floor reminiscent of those found in ancient Roman villas, while the Greet suite features Greek-style pottery and tiling in a key pattern. Guests will also find Egyptian and Japanese suites, along with several Maya suites. The crew area includes 32 single/double cabins and an additional 10 cabins for serving staff.

The ship’s public areas are no less impressive, featuring lots of sweeping lines, chrome and reflective surfaces in a minimalist style. Three large staircases grace Privilege One, including the Panoramic Staircase, the Circular Staircase and the Colorful Aquarium Staircase that wraps around a circular vertical aquarium. Stabilized areas that provide an exceptionally smooth cruising experience include the public dining room that features a large circular dining table and a library, which also has a circular configuration. The spacious living room features a baby grand piano and flat screen video entertainment system. Nothing is left to the imagination here, neither is anything or anyone left wanting.

Privilege One also has  multiple bars and lounges, an auditorium, movie theater and even a ballroom.

Privilege One is equipped with a host of amenities that include extended platforms that allow interior areas to open up onto decks that make for large indoor/outdoor social spaces. All passengers can enjoy including a fully equipped gymnasium, billiard room, mini-golf garden, wine cellar. For medical emergencies, there is a first aid room and surgical area for minor procedures.

A heliport equipped with a helicopter with medical stretcher is located atop the ship. Privilege One is equipped with a number of different sized tenders that make getting from ship to shore, launched through the on-board marina an easy proposition.  Six cars, four bikes, eight boats, six jet skis, even one submarine fulfill all land and water and air transport requirements

She is also equipped with safety features such as armored glass and doors, anti-piracy system, visual monitoring system, fire retardant materials in interior design lifeboats and rafts for emergency escape and much more.Privilege One is powered by three Azipod CD1400 motors that each produce 4500 kW of power. She has a maximum cruising speed of 20.7 knots with a range of 3,800 nautical miles.

Signature 650

The New Signature 650 is an evolution of the Series 640 and builds on the same proven offshore hull design. The collaboration between Franck Darnet and Marc Lombard combines sailing performance with living comfort.

The adjustable interior layouts on the new Privilège Signature 650 reflect the individual nature of the yacht owner.  The versatile convertible layouts available with the galley down version adapt to all your living requirements – from casual lounging to formal dining and everything in between. The salon aboard the new Signature 650 is larger than its predecessor and the windows at the front have been set further forward and closer to the vertical.

An additional side window to port and a large forward-facing panoramic window above the king-size bed provide maximum natural light in the master suite. The headroom has been raised to just over 6.5 feet, so that even tall sailors will find a comfortable space. The ensuite bathroom can be set up in the port bow to create additional space for storage and a sofa, or more centrally in the compact version of the master suite.

New redesigned deck

The foredeck has been redesigned to be completely flush, while the trampoline nets have been optimized for safe working, even in rough seas. The wide side decks are also fitted with flush hatches and, together with the high guard rail, ensure a high level of safety at sea. 

Another new feature is the teak sun lounge in front of the forward salon windows, which is slightly raised and protected from the wind on both sides.

The cockpit has been lowered to create a step-free connection to the salon. This allows for a seamless living space between the salon and the cockpit. There are two large, upholstered sunpads to port and starboard, a seating area with dining table, and a rear bench and a completely new sun lounger with a view over the wake. The aft seat also has a large storage garage for water toys underneath it.

The optional hydraulic tender platform can comfortably launch an 600kg tender. And an electric grill, an ice maker and a mini-bar round out the main upgrades. The stairway to the flybridge leads directly from the cockpit features elegant teak steps and a comfortable handrail.

The flybridge offers a large U-lounge with a table as well as a fully equipped helm station to starboard. From here, all lines can be operated via four large winches. There is the option of a second helm station to port. The double helm station can be fitted with a fixed bimini with an awning over the lounge area. 

Compared to the Serie 640, the optional carbon rig has an extra 19.7 inches (50cm) in the mast and an 11.8 inches (30cm) longer boom that adds 32  sq. ft. ( 3m²) to the genoa and 64.5 sq. ft. (6m²) to the mainsail. The mast is now located on the forward edge of the coachroof, which means a tidier forecastle, better visibility from the salon, and more efficient line management as lines are routed directly to the helm station.

The Signature 650  is built to your specific requirements. The new 5 cabin layout configuration provides additional separate crew quarters in the forepeak. One bow always serves as a sail locker.

There are two guest cabins aft with fine views through the hull window from the double berth. Each cabin has its own shower and heads.

Of course, the option for a four cabin configuration is still available and is tailored to your cruising aspirations.
