Yacht Club — Thursday, June 11 at 9:30 p.m.

Indie music act Dagmar, based in Fairfield, Iowa, plays the Yacht Club this Thursday in support of their new album Afterlight , released just this past week.

Dagmar consists of Gemma Cohen and Miranda Mallard, and though both are quite capable with their instruments (Cohen on bass and Mallard on keyboard and guitar), it’s their arresting vocal performances which form the foundation of the duo’s music.

Their vocal harmonies and solos, often intimately foregrounded in their songs, are deeply affecting, and often quite sophisticated, drawing on methods from classical and medieval music. For instance, Cohen and Mallard open their song “What Do You Want” (video above) by using a vocal technique based in medieval choral music known as “hocketing” where the same melody alternates between two voices.

“With our old group, Rock Paper Scissors, we actually did a whole classical concert using medieval harmonies,” said Mallard, going on to note that she and Cohen found their interest in medieval music while studying music at the University of Iowa and participating in choir groups. “We have a big appreciation for it. We just love the sound of it.”

Instrumentally, Dagmar’s ventures into indie classical territory. Many of the group’s songs are grounded in repetitive musical arrangements and Mallard herself notes the conscious influence of Philip Glass on their songwriting.

The ways these arrangements juxtapose against the rawness of Dagmar’s vocal performances, and the plaintive lyrics they typically articulate, give their music a fascinating emotional texture. The repetition of notes coupled with the driving rhythms of the percussion (played on the album by Jack Lion’s Justin LeDuc), can often feel both hypnotic and ascendant, giving the listener the sense that they’re floating above everything being sung about, observing a person’s pain and the beauty of how they carry it. There is something quite impressive about being able to write songs that can feel at once both wholly ethereal and like a punch to the gut.

Dagmar are joined for their performance at the Yacht Club by LeDuc on drums and Dana Telsrow ( Dana T ) on guitar, both of whom feature prominently on Afterlight . Telsrow will also perform a solo set featuring his unique medley of folk, funk and charismatic exuberance. Also on the bill is Controlxoxo , a fellow band from Fairfield, Iowa, who perform enthralling goth(ish) synthpop that beautifully marries the danceability of ’80s new wave with the punk ethos of destroying everything .

UW’s student yacht club could end as university reimagines waterfront

The high cost of membership and boats probably makes joining a yacht club low on the priority list for many college students. But University of Washington students have been able to take part in one for just $39 per quarter and have full access to expensive boating equipment, lessons and time on the water.

That deal could come to an end as soon as this summer, as the university’s latest waterfront renovations threaten to shut down the 76-year-old Washington Yacht Club.

According to club members, students will lose out on a unique, affordable experience, but the university says it’s making the waterfront more equitable, opening it up to more students and a wider range of uses.

The Washington Yacht Club has been on the UW campus since 1948 and operates as a nonprofit as well as a registered student organization. The club’s goal, according to its website, is to “teach and promote sailing in a safe, inclusive, accessible, and affordable way.”

Currently, the club stores its fleet of 70 boats at the docks near Husky Stadium on the east side of campus, including dinghies, keelboats and high-performance catamarans.

The club will have to remove all of them by July 1 as the university tears down, rebuilds and repairs the docks.

“The main issue is that they are going to remove us either way, no matter what the footprint is or how that changes,” said Layla Airola, a UW junior and a spokesperson for the yacht club.

The docks, located in front of the Water Activities Center, need to be replaced as many of them “are nearing their end of life and have some safety hazards due to deterioration over time,” according to project documents.

Gregory Reinhardt, associate director for programming at UW’s recreation department, said the project will cost $2.54 million based on current projections.

Once the work is done by April 2025, the university won’t let the club return its fleet to the docks, save for maybe one boat, if it agrees to become a recreational club. Without a place to store its fleet, the yacht club will struggle to exist in its current form, members say.

Notably, the Washington Yacht Club says, the project will remove the dinghy docks, effectively shutting down the club’s small-boat sailing program, which often helps introduce beginners to the sport.

Nearby and also being renovated is the historic ASUW Shellhouse , the birthplace of the UW rowing program made famous by the book, and the recent George Clooney-directed movie, “The Boys in the Boat,” chronicling the team’s push to compete in the 1936 Olympics.

The 2023 film helped inspire the shell house project, funded by an $18.5 million fundraising campaign. When the remodel is finished in June 2026, the doors will roll open again, and the shell house will become a student and community gathering space.

Until recently, the student yacht club and other groups stored some equipment in the shell house. Airola argues the new vision for the shell house goes against the building’s origins.

“The ASUW Shellhouse’s history is centered around student athletics, yet students are being displaced to convert the building into an event venue,” Airola said in a text message.

The Washington Yacht Club isn’t the only student group displeased. Last month, the Associated Students of the University of Washington, the school’s student government, passed a resolution opposing the dock renovation as it would limit the yacht club’s ability to operate, according to The Daily, UW’s student newspaper .

The university contends the yacht club can continue to exist and has offered its members the option of becoming a recreational club. If they do, they’d be allowed to store one boat at the docks.

Reinhardt said none of the 38 active clubs the department oversees receives the same amenities the yacht club does. He said in an email the offer to make them a recreational club would make their experience “consistent with that of the other [registered student organizations] we support officially through Rec Club status.”

Reinhardt also suggested in an email to the yacht club the possibility that they could rent moorage nearby from Intercollegiate Athletics, though that option hadn’t been explored.

Airola said one boat is not enough to support the club’s approximately 300 student members. She acknowledged the club has more storage space than any other student recreation club on campus, but argues the scope of their organization warrants the space.

As the July deadline to remove their boats nears, Airola said the group is looking into other storage locations for its fleet. If the club can’t find a place, it may have to sell its boats.

“Our experience with the university has not been that they would like to keep us here,” said Renee Chien, a senior and the club’s rear commodore. “But we do offer a very unique experience for students.”

After exploring numerous top 50 bars across America, I've finally discovered the epitome of excellence - Yacht Club. Without a doubt, it stands out as the best bar I've encountered so far. The uniqueness and deliciousness of every drink on their menu left me thoroughly impressed. However, "The Fourth Color" stole the show and became an instant favorite. If I find myself in Denver again, I'm committing to ordering 10 glasses of this delightful concoction every night. Special thanks to the long-haired gentleman who recommended this extraordinary drink. His expertise added an extra layer of enjoyment to an already fantastic evening. Kudos to Yacht Club for delivering an unparalleled bar experience that has set the standard for my future explorations. Cheers to many more unforgettable nights!

This is a fun, funky little bar, which is a nice follow-up to dinner at Brasserie Brixton next door. We just had a couple cocktails/wine. I don't love natural wine, so I might stick to the cocktails/beer next time.

Photo of Ed D.

My friend took me here and it's a pretty cool vibe. Very relaxed and the bartenders are awesome. They have very unique cocktails and the three that we tried were delicious. The prices were good for the quality cocktails. The only downside was it was packed and it was hard to converse because it was so loud. I really had to be close to my friend to hear what she was saying. Anyways it's a nice casual bar to visit

I don't normally write reviews for bars but this place is a hidden gem! Unique and perfectly crafted cocktails. You won't find anything else like this. A huge selection of unique drinks including a ton of clarified milk drinks that confuse your brain with how something so clear can have such a balance of flavors. Super friendly & knowledgeable bartenders (shout out to coleman!). It's the cocktails of your dreams without the pretentiousness of a cocktail bar. Unassuming almost dive bar vibes - you'd think its a place to just get a beer. But obviously don't - the bar tenders are seriously talented. Perfect spot to hang out, have fun, and enjoy amazing drinks. Bonus points is that they serve hot dogs! And not just your normal ketchup and mustard, but specialty items that are a perfect pairing with drinks. Do yourself a favor and check this place out!

This bar was recently awarded as one of the best bars in North America by the 50 best discovery list and I can see why. This bar is definitely one of the best bars I've ever been to. The drinks are super unique, well balanced, and full bodied. Each drink had such a cool combination of flavors and the texture of each one was smooth. The bar tenders were also crazy fast at making the drinks but the quality was great. The place surprisingly never got too crowded and we found a spot immediately. Keep in mind we showed up around 9 and it started to get more crowded around 10 or later. The bathrooms were clean considering it's a bar and the place was fun and they played bobs burgers on the wall. All the drinks are very reasonably priced considering it's denver and how the drinks are so amazing. We had the im on soka, south side swizzle, hvr water, laughing bones, and pencil thin chinstrap. The I'm on soka was super refreshing and the bar tender actually gave us a sample of it since they pre make it and keep it in the fridge. The drink is amazing. Not too strong of absinthe and I am not a absinth drinker. The drink is so refreshing and a great way to start the night. The hvr water also is premade and was genuinely one of the best drinks I've ever had. The dill flavor was so prominent and the buttermilk which was strained out gave a really great full bodied feel to the drink. The tequila was not strong at all and the drink was very refreshing. The pencil thin chinstrap was very booze forward and definitely not my style but if you like cognac and stronger flavors like that this is the drink for you. The laughing bones had such a unique flavor and it was so good. You could actually taste the curry leaf too which blew me away. The south side swizzle was a very pretty drink although the ice was super thick and it was hard to enjoy the drink. The flavors were the least complex but it's definitely a trendy drink. The bartenders were fast, attentive, and were so good at their jobs. They were busy and yet had time to answer our questions. Seriously go to this bar and you won't regret it. I'm already planning my next trip back and I don't do that often.

If you hate world-class (and award-winning) drinks, cool ass vibes and insanely tasty hotdogs, then this isn't the place for you. The owners know their stuff-- and the bartenders are amazing. It helps that they are also wonderful human beings as well. I love this place and think you're a gosh darn fool if you don't head here and support this local gem immediately.

Gosh I wanted so bad to love this place but the service & drinks just let me down! These may have been the worst craft cocktails I have ever had in my life. Located outside RiNo in the Cole neighborhood next to Brasserie Brixton, The Yacht Club is a whole vibe- it's darkly lit, no sign (except an anchor on the door) and looks super swanky from the outside. When you enter, the area between the door & pub is nature-y vibe & inside, it's super trendy with a dark ambiance & filled with music that is just a little to loud. We picked an open table that sat 4 but was missing a seat so it was a little awkward but we found a barstool that didn't fit but worked. The space holds maybe 40-50 people max so it's super cozy! And, who doesn't love a themed Yacht Club that serves up gourmet hot dogs & craft cocktails? There were ~3-4 bartenders that were interchangeably acting as servers too. We finally got some water as we perused the funky menu. All cocktails were $14 each & the beer selection was awful (think: miller highlife, PBR, etc). I loved the funky names & crafted liquors in each cocktail though! I tried the Milly Grace (corn whisky, mr black coffee liquor, rancio wine & caramelized banana)... served in a highball glass with an ice rock- I wanted to love it but it was so damn boozy I could hardly drink it! Joey got the Beginners Luck, which was the best of all of our drinks, albeit still so strong. My stepmom loves fruity drinks so she got the frozen banana daiquiri & it was soooo boozy too, you couldn't even taste the banana over the booze. My dad got the watermelon la crawl, which was a vodka based cocktail that was all booze & the only watermelon was from the jolly rancher they put on top. This all might have been a little better if the server actually returned to our table to see how the drinks were, or refill our water, or just to provide service... but that didn't happen. Once the drinks were on our table, we had to do the rest for ourselves- filling up water from a large gatorade cooler & getting our check from the bar. Not quite the experience you would expect from a craft cocktail lounge where you're paying good money for drinks with nice glassware...... All in all, the Yacht Club gave me really mixed feelings. I am all for $14 craft cocktails but I want a good flavor profile & not just so much booze that I can't taste anything... but the vibe was on point, I loved the space, so I may come back here for a hot dog & drink sometime but it certainly isn't on my list to return.

4.5 stars. How have I not heard of this adorable cocktail bar within walking distance of my house? Probably because it used to be located in the Source Hotel. Now it's attached to Brasserie Brixton (which I've been meaning to visit) and relatively easy to find if you recognize the nautical logo. Yacht Club gets busy quickly after opening at 4pm, so arrive early! Love that it's one of what seems like a few places actually available in Denver on Mondays. Lots of delicious, colorful cocktails with high quality ingredients. I ordered a strawberry daiquiri which I thought was frozen, but maybe I misspoke. Still tasty and boozy. The vibes are EVERYTHING, from Les Miserables projecting on the far wall to the staff laughing with each other. The Yacht Club menu mentions inclusivity as one of their values, and that's exactly what I felt. So many more drinks I can't wait to try, in addition to the separate menu of hot dogs.

dagmar's yacht club

Cool little place. I want to call it a five type spot but the drinks can get a little fancy but either way it had a great atmosphere and drinks were great.

Loved it. What a great neighborhood bar. Denver needs more places like this. Went early evening on a weekend and it was quiet yet but I'm sure it picks up later on

Subscriber only, real estate | what’s being built there 2 ritz-carlton buildings offer luxury seekers a beach restaurant, spa, yacht club.

The Ritz-Carlton Residences will be two towers, on both sides of State Road A1A in Pompano Beach with 205 move-in ready homes. The Beach Tower on the east will be 31 stories with 117 beachside units. The Marina Tower, which is 14 stories high, has 88 residences. Most homes are already sold. It will open in 2026. (DBOX/Courtesy)

The location? 1380 S. Ocean Blvd. in Pompano Beach, about a mile south of East Atlantic Boulevard.

What’s planned?  The Ritz-Carlton Residences will be two buildings, on both sides of State Road A1A with 205 move-in ready homes.

The Beach Tower on the east will be 31 stories with 117 beachside units and one floor of underground parking. The Marina Tower, which is 14 stories high, has 88 residences. This won’t be a hotel, and no AirBnB is permitted.

West side of A1A Ritz Carlton construction underway in Pompano Beach on Monday, May 6, 2024. (Carline Jean/South Florida Sun Sentinel)

“Pompano Beach is ‘Puttin’ On The Ritz,’ ” said Mayor Rex Hardin, a reference to the 1920s Irving Berlin song. “I’ll tell you, it’s a great time for the city of Pompano Beach. To get this kind of recognition that Pompano Beach is a destination, the recognition that the city, the staff cooperate so well with the development community to attract this type of investment, it’s fantastic.

“It’s a validation of what we’ve been working on for many years.”

What will the homes cost to purchase and what are the amenities?  Homes range in price from $1.256 million to $7.133 million. Marina-side units are already sold during pre-construction. The beachside building has just nine units left, said Harvey Daniels, the vice president of development sales.

Homeowners will be in the lap of luxury with access to both a private Beach Club with a beach restaurant — with the Ritz menu that is typically seasonal — and towel service and wait service to be served a drink or lunch (or both) on the beach.

“It’s only open to residents and guests,” Daniels said.

There is also a private Yacht Club, with 13 slips, which are all already sold. There will be a bar area for a cocktail at sunset on the marina, and a pickup and dropoff dock “if someone has friends with boats you can get picked up and dropped off,” Daniels said.

There also will be a spa, two pools facing the ocean, a gym, business center, dog park, bocci court, paddleball or pickleball court, 24-hour valet, and a doorman.

“This is a hot commodity,” said Ron Choron, the vice president of construction for Fortune Development & Construction, one of the project developers. “Ritz is the best. It’s where I try to stay when I go out of town. The service is always the same.”

The interior design for the residences is crafted by Piero Lissoni, an Italian designer.

The homes will range from one to four bedrooms, which are the penthouses. Homeowners have a choice of flooring, doors, baseboards, cabinets and vanities.

What’s being replaced? The property on the east side of State Road A1A was previously a 3-story, 96-room motel called Paradise Beach Resort that sustained hurricane damage and was eventually demolished in 2009. The west side parcel was tennis courts, which were demolished about a decade ago, according to Sandra King, city spokeswoman.

Other than in Pompano Beach, where is the nearest Ritz to purchase? The Ritz-Carlton Residences Sunny Isles Beach is an oceanfront 52-story, 212-unit, luxury building located at 15701 Collins Ave. in Miami-Dade County that opened in 2020. It boasts a private elevator lobby for each residence and kitchens designed with Italian cabinetry and stone countertops.

There are two-, three- and four-bedroom ocean-view residences for sale as resales in the building. No new units are left.

Kelly Charles, a Realtor with “The Luxury Team” at Compass, who has sold in both Sunny Isles Beach and Pompano Beach, said many of her buyers are from the northeast who are “planning for future retirement or second homes.” Those well-to-do clients are getting “all the amenities they could possible want” that come with “Ritz-trained staff.”

“There’s nothing else to compare to in Pompano,” Charles said. “People feel comfortable with the brand they already know.”

How long will Pompano Beach construction take? The residences are scheduled to open in September 2026. Both the east and west buildings are expected to open at the same time.

What is the project anticipated cost? Construction costs are $350 million, Choron said.

Repairs to the Cape Coral Yacht Club Park Fishing Pier could cost up to $6.5 million

N early two years after Hurricane Ian hit and devastated south Cape Coral, the city council is planning to bring back the Yacht Club Park Fishing Pier in a big way.

"Basically the question that needs to be answered is how long do we want the pier to last?" Councilmember Bill Steinke said.

The city will discuss the pier's next steps, including deciding the cost of repairs, estimating permitting and construction duration, and its longevity.

The repairs, restoration, and reconstruction of the pier could cost between $4.3 million and $6.5 million.

The topic will be discussed and potentially voted on at this Wednesday's regular meeting at 10:30 a.m. in council chambers.

Here's what you need to know:

Yacht Club history Gem of the city: The original Cape Coral Yacht Club soon gone, but what of its legacy?

More Cape Coral City Council news After residential backlash, Cape Coral chooses not to go forward with meeting time changes

Pier damage

Hurricane Ian hit Cape Coral on Sept. 28, causing major damage to Cape Coral's Yacht Club Community Park and all of its facilities.

The pier is structurally compromised, with the decking and railing destroyed, and the fish cleaning stations and benches nowhere to be found.

Pile Restoration

Kimley Horn, a consulting firm focusing on public and private developments, performed two levels of investigation of the existing piles with two options on how to move forward with repairs.

Piles are driven into the ground and used as foundations for docks, and they can be wooden, concrete, or metal.

The first option would take a phased approach toward restoration of the piling, with phase one restoring 24 damaged piles and those disturbed during the investigation. Additional pile deterioration may be identified during the repair process.

This option would provide an estimated 15 years of service life for the pier, with subsequent investigation required to restore additional piles as deterioration is identified.

The second option is the complete restoration of the piling at once, providing an estimated 25 years of service life with no subsequent restoration required.

Full pier reconstruction

Two options were presented by the firm on how to proceed.

Option one would install new decking, rails, and sun shelter once the existing pile restoration has been completed with whichever pile option is chosen.

A U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nationwide Permit for maintenance would be required due to the potential disturbance of the river bottom during pile restoration.

The estimated permitting time frame for this option would be between six to nine months.

Option two is a complete reconstruction of the pier, including new piles with deck rails and a shade structure. A general permit requiring multi-agency review would be required.

The estimated permitting time frame for this option would be between 12 to 18 months.

The city has three overall options with pile restoration and pier reconstruction in mind.

If the city decided to only repair the damaged piles, the cost of full construction would be more than $4.3 million, take six to nine months of permitting, and take six to 10 months of construction.

Repairing all the piles would cost over $6.5 million, take six to nine months of permitting, and take six to 10 months of construction.

The city could also remove and replace all the piles, and that would cost over 5.4 million, take 12 to 18 months of permitting, and take six to 10 months of construction.

Cape Coral will determine funding options in the future, and potentially allocate $2 million from the state, which is to be used toward Yacht Club shoreline, beach, and pier restoration, to the project.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery and Museum

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

dagmar's yacht club

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

dagmar's yacht club

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

dagmar's yacht club

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

dagmar's yacht club

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

dagmar's yacht club

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.

Gagarin cup (khl) finals:  atlant moscow oblast vs. salavat yulaev ufa.

Much like the Elitserien Finals, we have a bit of an offense vs. defense match-up in this league Final.  While Ufa let their star top line of Alexander Radulov, Patrick Thoresen and Igor Grigorenko loose on the KHL's Western Conference, Mytischi played a more conservative style, relying on veterans such as former NHLers Jan Bulis, Oleg Petrov, and Jaroslav Obsut.  Just reaching the Finals is a testament to Atlant's disciplined style of play, as they had to knock off much more high profile teams from Yaroslavl and St. Petersburg to do so.  But while they did finish 8th in the league in points, they haven't seen the likes of Ufa, who finished 2nd.

This series will be a challenge for the underdog, because unlike some of the other KHL teams, Ufa's top players are generally younger and in their prime.  Only Proshkin amongst regular blueliners is over 30, with the work being shared by Kirill Koltsov (28), Andrei Kuteikin (26), Miroslav Blatak (28), Maxim Kondratiev (28) and Dmitri Kalinin (30).  Oleg Tverdovsky hasn't played a lot in the playoffs to date.  Up front, while led by a fairly young top line (24-27), Ufa does have a lot of veterans in support roles:  Vyacheslav Kozlov , Viktor Kozlov , Vladimir Antipov, Sergei Zinovyev and Petr Schastlivy are all over 30.  In fact, the names of all their forwards are familiar to international and NHL fans:  Robert Nilsson , Alexander Svitov, Oleg Saprykin and Jakub Klepis round out the group, all former NHL players.

For Atlant, their veteran roster, with only one of their top six D under the age of 30 (and no top forwards under 30, either), this might be their one shot at a championship.  The team has never won either a Russian Superleague title or the Gagarin Cup, and for players like former NHLer Oleg Petrov, this is probably the last shot at the KHL's top prize.  The team got three extra days rest by winning their Conference Final in six games, and they probably needed to use it.  Atlant does have younger regulars on their roster, but they generally only play a few shifts per game, if that.

The low event style of game for Atlant probably suits them well, but I don't know how they can manage to keep up against Ufa's speed, skill, and depth.  There is no advantage to be seen in goal, with Erik Ersberg and Konstantin Barulin posting almost identical numbers, and even in terms of recent playoff experience Ufa has them beat.  Luckily for Atlant, Ufa isn't that far away from the Moscow region, so travel shouldn't play a major role.

I'm predicting that Ufa, winners of the last Superleague title back in 2008, will become the second team to win the Gagarin Cup, and will prevail in five games.  They have a seriously well built team that would honestly compete in the NHL.  They represent the potential of the league, while Atlant represents closer to the reality, as a team full of players who played themselves out of the NHL.

  • Atlant @ Ufa, Friday Apr 8 (3:00 PM CET/10:00 PM EST)
  • Atlant @ Ufa, Sunday Apr 10 (1:00 PM CET/8:00 AM EST)
  • Ufa @ Atlant, Tuesday Apr 12 (5:30 PM CET/12:30 PM EST)
  • Ufa @ Atlant, Thursday Apr 14 (5:30 PM CET/12:30 PM EST)

Games 5-7 are as yet unscheduled, but every second day is the KHL standard, so expect Game 5 to be on Saturday, like an early start.

The Unique Burial of a Child of Early Scythian Time at the Cemetery of Saryg-Bulun (Tuva)

<< Previous page

Pages:  379-406

In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E. Kilunovskaya and V. A. Semenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation.

News release

Federal investment helps upgrade dock, power, and water services infrastructure in North Sydney

dagmar's yacht club

May 9, 2024 · North Sydney, Nova Scotia · Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA)

Marine tourism plays an important role in attracting visitors to Cape Breton’s shores, contributing to its economic growth. The Northern Yacht Club in North Sydney acts as a gathering point for boaters from near and far, drawing visitors to the area and contributing to a vibrant community.

Jaime Battiste, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations and Member of Parliament for Sydney – Victoria, today announced a non-repayable contribution of $147,400 to the Northern Yacht Club to help upgrade the club’s facilities and services. This announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Gudie Hutchings, Minister of Rural Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA.

This investment will support a number of upgrades including replacing aging infrastructure and installing environmentally friendly, plastic EZ docks, which are easier to maintain and more resilient against the harsh maritime weather. New power and water pedestals will also replace those lost in recent storms, improving safety and functionality of the marina. This project ensures the club can continue to promote boating in the region and provide the facilities necessary to support visiting vessels from Canada and international ports.

By investing in projects like this one, the Government of Canada is strengthening its commitment to helping communities flourish and pursue opportunities for growth.

"We support brighter futures and stronger local communities when we invest in infrastructure. Your federal government is proud to support the North Sydney Yacht Club to ensure that it can continue to welcome both local and international visitors for another 100 years. This will ensure North Sydney's economy sails to greater successes.” - The Honourable Gudie Hutchings, Minister of Rural Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA
"Situated near Sydney and attractions like the Cabot Trail, the Northern Yacht Club is a prime spot for sailors and tourists. With these upgrades, the club is enhancing its appeal as a destination for all.” - Jaime Battiste, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations and Member of Parliament for Sydney – Victoria
“The Northern Yacht Club is very appreciative of the support from ACOA as it strives to make necessary improvements in its docking facilities and services. As a result of this contribution, the club will continue to provide top notch, accessible docking for its members and visiting boaters from Canada and around the world.” - John Astephen, Commodore, Northern Yacht Club
