The ultimate expression of the Pershing thrill. The Pershing 140 is not only Pershing’s first all-aluminum superyacht. It is also the first yacht with a raised helm station directly connected to the sun deck. It is the first to set the area dedicated to the owner on the main deck and is also the first to have a beach area that can open fully on three sides.

The profile of the Pershing 140 displays the sleek lines that symbolize the brand's sporting, competitive spirit, enhanced by such iconic details as the two side wings integrated into the superstructure at the beginning of the walkways. The distinctly contemporary shape of the bow enhances the model's aerodynamics, guaranteed by the mooring cover with an automatic up/down mechanism that maintains the streamlined design.

Pershing 140 comes with four MTU 16 V 2000 M96L 2600 HP engines. The hydro-jet propulsion assures excellent performance levels, both at cruising and maximum speed. Consistent with the Pershing DNA, the domotics and electronic systems are all state-of-the-art and coniugate performance with well-being and relaxation. Three Seakeeper 35s guarantee absolute comfort even while at anchor.

The three large decks and spacious outdoor areas make living on board the Pershing 140 extremely comfortable. The revolutionary stern area architecture is designed to enhance onboard entertainment and is exhalted by the large beach club right at the water’s edge. To offer a personalised and unique thrill, all on-board decorations are tailored to reflect the owner’s style.

140-Foot Sailing Superyacht Blends Classic 1930s Design With Modern Tech

One of a handful of powerful, magnificent J Class yachts, “Rainbow” is considered royalty in the sailing world.

Have you ever dreamt of racing on a magnificent sailing  superyacht  that looks like a classic vessel from the 1920s and ’30s? During that golden era of sailing,  J Class  titans like  Shamrock V, Yankee, Ranger , and  Endeavour II  became royalty of the sailing world. Those massive, powerful vessels, with their sleek wooden hulls and billowing sails, along with dozens of crew hanging over the gunwales, became icons for the world’s wealthiest families.

A century later , Rainbow  exudes the same sense of grace and power, but is a thoroughly modern recreation of its 1930s namesake. Launched in 2012 by Holland Jachtbouw, she faintly resembles the 1934 J Class America’s Cup winner. Because she mixes classic design with modern technology, this new-generation  Rainbow  packs more pedigree into her 140-foot aluminum hull than most other modern sailing yachts combined.

Built to J Class Association maximum performance rules, her naval architecture was developed by Dykstra from the original  Rainbow  hull. The added bonus of being a modern sailing superyacht is a stunning interior by Devos de Vries Design.

“The J Class rules state that you have to use an original design that is already in circulation,” Matt Sweetman, Rainbow ’s captain told  Robb Report . “And you’re not allowed to have two of the same boat. There are only around 25 designs left in the world, but probably only seven are any good. That makes  Rainbow  a pretty exclusive racing yacht.”

Rainbow ‘s current owner bought her in 2015 after seeing  Rainbow  in the Caribbean. The man was thunderstruck by her immense size and grace. “It was a pure aesthetics thing for him,” Sweetman says.

The new owner put the yacht through a series of engineering upgrades, including modifications to the interior.

The original  Rainbow  would have had dozens of crew members to work the sails manually. On the modern  Rainbow , many functions are automated, though the captain says all seven crew do their regular jobs on board while assisting when the sails are up. “To do any maneuver, we need all hands,” he says.  YPI

For the past five years,  Rainbow  has kept off the racing circuit but participates at many sailing regattas, including Loro Piana in Sardinia and Les Voiles de Saint Tropez. She’s also a successful charter yacht, so many sailing aficionados enjoy her in the Mediterranean and Caribbean.

Sweetman says the thrill of sailing a J Class is unrivalled. “This is the first boat I’ve been on where I have to think about sailing rather than pushing buttons for automatic operation,” he says. “Our foresails are manually operated, so the loads are quite big, and you can feel the boat tremble as you pull the sheets on and let them out. The waves lap down the decks. It heightens your senses.”

When the yacht is sailing in 18 to 25 knots of wind, it’s like being aboard the original  Rainbow , complete with sudden acceleration, the extreme tilt of the yacht and wind literally whipping through the sails. “It’s exhilarating,” says Sweetman. “There are big noises, and your guests will definitely get wet. It’s a brutal, interesting day’s sailing.”

The golden age of J Class yachts peaked in the 1930s. Owning one is a bit like joining the world’s most exclusive owner’s club—very small and very elite. The J Class renaissance began when Newport real estate entrepreneur Elizabeth Meyer completed a $10 million refit of  Endeavour  in 1989. “That renewed everyone’s love for the Class, and then other people started building,” says Sweetman.

Velsheda  and  Shamrock V  complete the trio of original boats still sailing, while the first modern replica,  Ranger , was built in 2004. “The new J Class owners soon realized that they didn’t have to just race, but had a nice platform for a beautiful cruising yacht with an interior,” says Sweetman. “Designers André Hoek and Gerald Dykstra were made the leading hands who, alongside the owners, came up with a way of modernizing the rule so that these boats could be used for both racing and cruising.”

The new rules also ensured that the new generation of J-Class yachts didn’t humiliate the older class during races. “Everyone had to be competitive,” says Sweetman. “Otherwise, there was no point in rebuilding a Class.”

Today, J Class superyachts have standard amenities that would’ve been science fiction in the 1920s—compact generators, air conditioning and hydraulics to run state-of-the-art winches. Each boat has to have an owner’s cabin, as well as guest cabins, and most, including  Rainbow , are Lloyd’s classified. “We have everything any modern superyacht would have,” says Sweetman.

Even with a hybrid diesel/electric drive, carbon rigging, an aluminum hull and electrohydraulics, it still takes all seven crew to operate  Rainbow . “The chef sails, the stewardess sails, the engineers sail,” says Sweetman. “To do any maneuver we need all hands.”

The Caribbean provides ideal sailing, with its sunshine, trade-wind conditions and good sea states. “Because  Rainbow  is designed to go racing, the loads we’re using when cruising are relatively small for what it’s used to, so we can really heel her over and get her really wet and make it good fun,” Sweetman says. “She’s an amazing boat. There’s never a dull day.”

“We have been lucky enough to spend at least three months on board every year since the build, crossing the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, and exploring the more traditional cruising grounds of the Mediterranean and Caribbean,” the owner, requesting anonymity, told Robb Report . “ Adastra is a truly stable and safe oceangoing yacht.” It also happens to be one of the most innovative vessels on the water.

British designer John Shuttleworth has won multiple awards, not to mention nonstop praise, for Adastra . What sets the boat apart are its unusual trio of silver hulls that resemble an outrigger canoe. “The structure is a major engineering achievement,” says Shuttleworth in a video describing the design. “Nobody had ever designed or built a boat like that.”

Built by McConaghy Boats in Zhuhai, China, the custom design went through structural analysis, while a computer model of Adastra was tested for wave impact, slamming and the potential durability of the outriggers running through big seas. Constructed from e-glass and Kevlar, these hulls are mated to a carbon-fiber superstructure, so the boat weighs only 49 tons, or the equivalent weight of a 60-foot conventional yacht. Since weight reduction was critical to the trimaran’s performance, McConaghy custom-designed all the components—hatches, port lights, ladders and hinges—to be made of carbon fiber. This lightweight design delivers hydrodynamic efficiency, stability and performance, as well as low fuel consumption and low environmental impact. “It uses a seventh of the amount of fuel” of conventional motor yachts its size,” said Shuttleworth.

“Our hope at the time was that the design would represent consciousness of the environmental issues facing the world, while also giving impetus to changing attitudes towards reducing carbon emissions and fossil fuel consumption,” Shuttleworth told Robb Report .

Adastra has weathered 50-knot storms and boasts a vast 10,000-nautical mile range at 10 knots. Powered by a single 1,150 hp Caterpillar C18 engine, the boat’s top speed is 23 knots, with a friendly cruise of 17 knots. Adastra also has two 110-hp Yanmar outrigger engines to power the three onboard generators. For transoceanic crossings, the two 800-gph water makers keep the 730-gal. freshwater tanks full.

Adastra ’s 3.9-foot draft can get into shallow areas that more traditional yachts can’t access, making her ideal for shallow-water areas like the Bahamas. The yacht also has a custom anchoring system, with three anchors that deploy across the bow, stern and along the main hull.

Despite its eco credentials, Adastra is still very much a luxury yacht. With the main hull flared over the water for additional space, the exterior layout allows guests to enjoy several secluded areas and superb communal spaces. The Scandinavian-influenced interior by Jepsen Designs, is minimalist and dominated by the natural light flowing in from curved, wraparound windows and skylights, highlighting the honey-colored woods and neutral color palette of the open-plan living areas. Adastra was designed for nine guests and up to six crew. The full-beam master cabin is aft, connected directly to the main salon, while two guest cabins and the galley are located near the engine compartment.

Adastra ’s 52.5-foot beam features a spacious aft deck with lounges and a sheltered alfresco dining area, while forward of the main salon, guests can relax on the roomy foredeck, with its large sunbed. The yacht’s garage door folds out to create a diving platform.

The dining room is composed of a dining table with glass top, low marble countertops with storage cabinets as well as sliding doors to the main galley on the port side and the entrance hall on the starboard side. For the Majesty 140 interior design, Gulf Craft’s partners once again with the Cristiano Gatto Design Team, following the successful launch of the Majesty 175. Cristiano Gatto’s team was charged with designing a universally pleasing interior for the Majesty 140. As a result, the interior is versatile and modern, mixing design, comfort, and functionality.

Light plays an important role in all interior spaces. The main saloon, formal dining room, and sky lounge all have floor-to-window glazing are filled  with natural light while offering endless views to the natural surroundings. The color palette, which includes earthy, neutral tones and a range of high-quality fabrics, perfectly complements the light-filled living spaces.

The fully-customizable beach club connects with a gym with spectacular ocean views as well as a storage room for diving gear and water toys. Beneath the aft cockpit, a garage accommodates two large jet skis, a refueling station and launching system.
