TURKEY GULET YACHT

A gulet is a classic wooden, motorized, and sailing boat that is perfect for long sea voyages and close-to-land cruises.

Traditional Turkish gulets are made-to-order boats that skilled artisans construct from wood. Because they provide a very comfortable cruising experience, gulets, often referred to as motor sailboats, are perfect for coastal excursions and lengthy sea cruises.

We are aware that the first gulet construction began in Turkey’s Bodrum region. However, production is also taking place in Bozburun, Marmaris, Fethiye, and Istanbul as a result of the expanding market and demand.

Types of Gulets

Gulet: The gulet is the most well-known traditional yacht design for Blue Cruise. The dining table and seating area are located at the back of the gulets.

There is typically a sofa and enough sun pillows out front for everyone. The entrance to the cabins is through this hall, which features a dining table according to the size of the gulet and an interior hall.

The yacht’s round stern causes the guest quarters to be in the front, while the aft side is typically used as the technical area. The ability to sail is marginally superior to that of Aynakic gulets.

The AFT parts of Aynakic gulets are not round, as they are in gulets, but rather are in a structure with raised corners, which is a key characteristic that sets them apart from ordinary gulets.

They typically use this space for the suite room, or what we would refer to as the “master cabin.” All other details are the same as for gulets, with the exception of this characteristic.

Tirhandil is the oldest local wooden boat type with a pointed stern and the best-suited wooden yacht for sailing. Today, the equipment has changed from sloop to lifeboat and from sail to sail; the majority of them are three-corner sails.

They do not construct them on particularly lengthy decks, often between 15 and 25 meters, like other kinds. The same standards apply to their cabins. If you like sailing, this is the best option.

Accommodation on Gulets

Traditional Turkish gulets have evolved in appearance over time. A modern gulet today resembles a high-end floating hotel and can be anywhere between 15 and 55 meters (50 and 180 feet) in length. Gulet length and passenger capacity are not inversely related.

A 20-meter gulet, for instance, might contain three guest cabins or six. The cabins must be smaller in order to accommodate additional cabins of the same size. But in general, taller gulets make up vessels with six or more multi-cabs.

Every cabin on gulets of different shapes and sizes was created with the needs of the passenger in mind, including a bed, wardrobe, separate shower, and toilet.

However, extra comfort amenities like sofa sets, dressers, work desks, and jacuzzis are also available, depending on the size of the rooms and the level of luxury of the boat. There are separate cabins for personnel in the guest cabins.

On gulets, the welfare of the passengers comes first. As a result, each gulet contains numerous fuel and clean water tanks. Additionally, it features a complete set of navigation and safety equipment, including life jackets, fire extinguishers, GSM phones, and VHF radios.

The DayDreams team, both in the UK and Turkey, are experts in organising tailor-made gulet holidays both for private charters and cabin bookings. They can advise on all aspects of a gulet charter, from the appropriate gulet to suit individual needs, to recommending an interesting itinerary – archaeological sites and areas best suited to walking and exploring remote villages on shore are a regular feature. In recent years, the Dodecanese islands between Samos and Rhodes have become a favourite cruising area too.  Istanbul city breaks and land tours to areas such as Cappadocia and the inland Aegean are often added to a gulet holiday. The team’s organisational skills and expertise really will make the difference.

STANDARD GULETS

What you can expect from the 9 standard and high standard gulets – a well maintained boat with an excellent captain and crew, good food from the on board cook, but limited water sports equipment.  Several of these gulets frequently use sails and Grande Lale and Grandi offer a ‘sailing package’.  Just none of the more luxurious aspects of the luxury and deluxe categories. Sizes range from 20 to 34 metres (3 to 8 cabins).

GULET CABIN BOOKINGS

Jenny Day has been bringing together individuals and couples into small group holidays for over 36 years. Many of these holidays have been led by her. Over the years, a loyal following of DayDreamers have joined her in exploring different itineraries and locations, excavations and land excursions. As the gulets are small compared with large, ocean-going cruise ships, it’s the perfect holiday to make friends and enjoy the pleasures which only a small cruiser can offer. Best Time to Travel Any time between May and October is a good time to take a gulet cruise although in early and late season there are fewer cruises taking place so the bays are more deserted, the ancient sites less crowded and, of course, it’s not as hot as July or August. Days are longer in May and June and the sea is warmer in September and October. The crew comprises the captain and, usually, a cook and a deckhand. There are up to 8 small but comfortable double cabins, all with private sh/wc. There’s a sunbathing area with sun mattresses, a saloon / bar, a shaded afterdeck for meals and drinks, a music system, a galley, snorkels & flippers and a tender-boat. Please note on air conditioned Gulets the  air conditioning operates at certain times only. The Itinerary (from Bodrum or Marmaris) There is no fixed itinerary and no two days are the same but a typical day will start with breakfast followed by a couple of hours’ cruising before dropping anchor in a bay for swimming, snorkelling and lunch. In the afternoon you’ll cruise again for a couple of hours and then stay the night either in a quiet bay or close to a harbour with, perhaps, the opportunity of going ashore. The cruise itinerary is always dependent on weather and operational conditions and is always subject to the captain’s approval. Eating & Drinking Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included in the price and all meals are taken on the shaded afterdeck. It’s simple but delicious cuisine and, unsurprisingly, always tastes better in the open air. Drinks are not included but can be purchased on board (there’s usually a ‘slate’ system whereby you pay for all drinks at the end of the cruise). Shore excursions are organised by the captain and crew and are payable locally. They might include a visit to an ancient site or maybe a village to see some typical local life or even a trip to a larger town or resort for some retail therapy. Evening BBQs are also very popular Night Life & Shopping The only chance there is to enjoy a little nightlife will be at the beginning or end of the Gulet Cruise in either Bodrum or Marmaris.
