The DayDreams team, both in the UK and Turkey, are experts in organising tailor-made gulet holidays both for private charters and cabin bookings. They can advise on all aspects of a gulet charter, from the appropriate gulet to suit individual needs, to recommending an interesting itinerary – archaeological sites and areas best suited to walking and exploring remote villages on shore are a regular feature. In recent years, the Dodecanese islands between Samos and Rhodes have become a favourite cruising area too.  Istanbul city breaks and land tours to areas such as Cappadocia and the inland Aegean are often added to a gulet holiday. The team’s organisational skills and expertise really will make the difference.

DELUXE GULETS

8 superb gulets and schooners to choose from in the deluxe category, ranging in size from 28 to 47 metres, all with a variety of water sports equipment, spacious interiors, master cabins, excellent captains and crew and most important, a professional chef. There is also a fully inclusive ‘package’ available on the wonderful Carpe Diem 5.

LUXURY GULETS

A comprehensive list of 16 luxury gulets ranging in size from 20 to 34 metres (between 2 to 8 cabins).  Something for everyone in this category, whether a small family wanting an exclusive charter, or a large group celebrating a special anniversary. All luxury gulets carry a variety of watersports equipment.

STANDARD GULETS

What you can expect from the 9 standard and high standard gulets – a well maintained boat with an excellent captain and crew, good food from the on board cook, but limited water sports equipment.  Several of these gulets frequently use sails and Grande Lale and Grandi offer a ‘sailing package’.  Just none of the more luxurious aspects of the luxury and deluxe categories. Sizes range from 20 to 34 metres (3 to 8 cabins).

GULET CABIN BOOKINGS

Jenny Day has been bringing together individuals and couples into small group holidays for over 36 years. Many of these holidays have been led by her. Over the years, a loyal following of DayDreamers have joined her in exploring different itineraries and locations, excavations and land excursions. Gulets are traditional Turkish motor yachts, which are beautifully crafted from wood. They have a spacious sundeck, perfect for soaking up the sun and admiring the views as you cruise the clear waters of the Aegean and Mediterranean. A gulet cruise allows you to reach secluded bays not accessible by land and to swim in the clearest of water, away from the shore.

From time to time you will stop off to visit places of interest along your route, the perfect way to explore the remains of the ancient civilizations, which once inhabited this part of the world. Our gulets have between 3 to 10 cabins. All cabins are equipped with air conditioning and en suite facilities including WC, hand basin and shower. Air conditioning cannot be operated whilst gulets are in harbour and will operate usually between 3 to 5 hours per day. What to Bring:

• Swimwear, casual wear and bare feet are the order of the day shoes may not be worn on board, although you will, of course, need to bring some with you for when you go ashore.
• By nature of the design, space is limited so it is best not to bring too much with you and a holdall is recommended instead of a rigid suitcase.
• Sheets are provided as are bath towels for your cabin although not swimming towels.

Gulet Cruising in Turkey: The Best Sailing Holiday You’ll Ever Have

Historical ruins, beautiful beaches, sleepy fishing villages and world class marinas make gulet cruising in Turkey an experience no other country in the world can replicate. Cruising the Turkish Riviera is not a new phenomenon, but it never appealed to mainstream holiday markets until the last decade when the Internet shifted people’s perception of travel.

Pre 2000, holidaymakers relied on travel agents to plan itineraries; but they now embark on independent forms of travel including gulet cruises around Turkey’s stunning coastlines.

Nostalgic Beginnings of Gulet Cruising in Turkey

Gulet cruises also called Blue Voyage routes began 70 years ago. The exiled “fisherman of Halicarnassus” Cevat Sakir Kabaagacli, arrived in Bodrum in 1925 to explore the Aegean Sea and surrounding coastline destinations.

He invited friends to join him, and they spent their time sponge diving, fishing, and wandering the Turkish Riviera. As a talented group of authors, word soon spread about their lazy days and explorations.

We wonder if he knew his lazy days would later become a popular aspect of holidaying in Turkey. From a three-day mini Blue Cruise to a two-week itinerary, experts with years of experience and passion for showing off the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts plan the adventure.

Holidays in Turkey: Sail the Turquoise Coast

A gulet boat is a Turkish wooden sailing vessel. As masters in building gulet boats, Turks used them as fishing vessels, but when tourists requested accommodation overnight so they could stay on board, they adapted the design and these days, they feature all modern cons of a luxury vessel.

Resorts like Bozburun on the Marmaris peninsula and many Bodrum peninsula villages have established strong reputations for boat building expertise and experience. A gulet boat varies in size and carries from eight to twenty passengers, each with private sleeping cabins. Everyone gathers on deck in the communal area for breakfast, lunch, and dinner if they choose not to dock into seaside resorts to visit restaurants.

Most equipped boats have scuba diving, fishing equipment and designated sunbathing areas if the holiday plan is to soak up Mediterranean sun rays. Traditional boats are the perfect sailing vessels, but in recent years, modifications turned vessels into motorised yachts. Either way, it is a thrilling experience.

Cruising Hubs in Turkey: Antalya, Marmaris, Fethiye, Bodrum

The Turquoise coast stretches from the northern Aegean to the eastern Mediterranean. Winding its way from West to South, it comprises over fifty small bays and villages and many ancient ruins that add a twist to cruising the Aegean and the Mediterranean Sea. Passengers put together itineraries depending on historical sites or Turkish coastal resorts they want to see. They also follow established Blue Voyage routes. Out of all the coastal hubs, four emerged as major destinations.

Bodrum: As the heart of where it all began, Bodrum’s reputation stems worldwide as an expert in gulet cruises, private yachts charters, and sailing holidays. The peninsula comprises a major town centre and smaller coastal resorts that do luxury in style, as often seen in substantial mega yachts docked into bays. About Cruises

A gulet charter cruise is the unique wooden yacht hire and cruise possible along the South west coast of Turkey where a long indented coastline holding many serene and sheltered bays and coves offers moorings and anchorages for smaller length boats of up to 50m, for durations of from 3 nights (4 day cruise) up to 7 nights (8 day cruise) or more weeks.

When Is The Best Time To Go?

Boat charter cruises in Turkey are operated over a 6 months period between April and October.The best months to go on the "Blue Cruise" unique to the beautiful Mediterranean coast are July, August and September with their hot days and balmy warm evenings.August is the most popular and warmest holiday period, when it is advisable to have an early booking.

Cabin Descriptions

Double cabin means one large double bed in the room. Usually fitted bunk style to the side against one wall. This is the most frequently used cabin type. Double cabins are generally used in every cabin of economical or standard class charter gulets. All cabins have a private bathroom.The toilets will be either the hometype or electric type model.

During Your Gulet Cruise

No hard shoes on board, there will be a basket for shoes for the land visits. Turn off the lights in your cabin after use to conserve the battery.All soiled paper products, toilet paper and sanitary items go into a bin provided (emptied by the crew daily).After swimming, before you relax on the sun cushions, please use the shower on deck to wash the salt from your body.

Gulet cruise introduction.

A gulet cruise from either Bodrum or Marmaris is a great combination of sightseeing, swimming and, of course, cruising along one of the Mediterranean’s most beautiful coastlines. You’ll see picturesque coves and magnificent scenery and enjoy snorkelling, sunbathing and complete relaxation. Simple pleasures, no stress or strain and, above all, a wonderful feeling of getting away from it all. You can also combine a week’s gulet cruise with a week at one of JetSun’s hotels.

Why Choose a Gulet Cruise?

The ultimate ‘get-away-from-it-all’ holiday, a gulet cruise is a great way to explore Turkey’s fabulous, Mediterranean coastline and enjoy the freedom and total relaxation which only an informal cruise can offer. As the gulets are small compared with large, ocean-going cruise ships, it’s the perfect holiday to make friends and enjoy the pleasures which only a small cruiser can offer.

Best Time to Travel

Any time between May and October is a good time to take a gulet cruise although in early and late season there are fewer cruises taking place so the bays are more deserted, the ancient sites less crowded and, of course, it’s not as hot as July or August. Days are longer in May and June and the sea is warmer in September and October.

The crew comprises the captain and, usually, a cook and a deckhand. There are up to 8 small but comfortable double cabins, all with private sh/wc. There’s a sunbathing area with sun mattresses, a saloon / bar, a shaded afterdeck for meals and drinks, a music system, a galley, snorkels & flippers and a tender-boat. Please note on air conditioned Gulets the  air conditioning operates at certain times only.

The Itinerary (from Bodrum or Marmaris)

There is no fixed itinerary and no two days are the same but a typical day will start with breakfast followed by a couple of hours’ cruising before dropping anchor in a bay for swimming, snorkelling and lunch. In the afternoon you’ll cruise again for a couple of hours and then stay the night either in a quiet bay or close to a harbour with, perhaps, the opportunity of going ashore. The cruise itinerary is always dependent on weather and operational conditions and is always subject to the captain’s approval.

Eating & Drinking

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included in the price and all meals are taken on the shaded afterdeck. It’s simple but delicious cuisine and, unsurprisingly, always tastes better in the open air. Drinks are not included but can be purchased on board (there’s usually a ‘slate’ system whereby you pay for all drinks at the end of the cruise).

Shore excursions are organised by the captain and crew and are payable locally. They might include a visit to an ancient site or maybe a village to see some typical local life or even a trip to a larger town or resort for some retail therapy. Evening BBQs are also very popular

Night Life & Shopping

The only chance there is to enjoy a little nightlife will be at the beginning or end of the Gulet Cruise in either Bodrum or Marmaris. The same will apply to shopping although there is sometimes the opportunity to visit a small town during the cruise which may have a few shops or a market to browse around.
