Best Classic Yacht Charter: our Selection of Timeless Vessels
Classic yachts for charter represent an era of grace, elegance and luxury. These vessels offer a unique charm and serenity, taking you back in time to the golden age of sailing. Aboard a classic yacht, one can experience a sense of nostalgia as they explore the vast and tranquil waters.
What is a classic yacht?
Old sailing yachts: timeless vessels for a pure sailing experience
One such yacht is the schooner , a two-masted vessel known for her sleek lines and graceful appearance. Originally used for fishing and trading, the schooner found a place in the world of yachting due to her speed and agility. Another classic yacht is the ketch , which has a smaller mizzenmast situated aft of the mainmast. This design allows for greater maneuverability and makes the ketch a popular choice for long-distance cruising. The gaff sloop is another classic yacht known for her simplicity and efficiency. With a single mast and a large mainsail, the gaff sloop is often used for racing as well as leisurely sailing.
Wooden yachts: the warmth of wood and the cocooning experience
When it comes to classic yachts, wooden yachts have always been at the forefront. There’s a certain warmth and inviting feel that comes from the natural-wooden finishes that surround you in a wooden yacht. The gentle creaking sound of the planks, the traditional craftsmanship, and natural curves add to the overall experience. These yachts are designed for a more personal and intimate voyage with friends and family, with the sheer beauty of the wood creating a cosy, cocoon-like environment. They are timeless pieces of art, and the ultimate symbol of class, luxury and elegance. Plus, owning a wooden yacht means that you’ll also own a story- the story of the craftsmen who built her, the sailors who navigated her and all the memories that were made aboard.
Old functional boats refitted into yachts: sometimes falling under the classic yachts category
Old, functional boats refitted into luxury yachts hold an undeniable charm that resonates with the hearts of boat enthusiasts. These vessels were once workhorses, designed and built for a specific purpose. However, with the upheaval of technological advancements and the influx of newer, flashy vessels, many of these workhorses were left to rot in docks or abandoned in shipyards. But then came the idea of rehabilitating such vessels, not only to revive their former glory but also to give them a new purpose – as stately yachts.
Gallant is an exemplary model of an old functional boat that has been transformed into a sophisticated motor yacht. She is available for charter in Croatia from 25,000€.
She offers a lavish cruising experience for those seeking to explore the charming villages and island treasures of the Adriatic Sea .

Classic sailing yacht charters
Best classic sailing yachts for charter this season
Sail back in time for your next charter holiday on board a classic charter yacht. These charming vessels have lived glamorous lives brimming with colourful stories from a bygone era. They have raced in regattas and sailed the seven seas, hosting legendary guests along the way. Some even have stories from WWII, receiving impressive restorations in the aftermath while maintaining their old-world charm. Others were abandoned before being revived and put to good use; some are replicas in homage to the originals.
Here’s our pick of the best classic yachts available for charter.
Constructed in 1921 by legendary German shipbuilder Max Oertz, 30m (124.8ft) AELLO has sailed the seven seas and offers an unforgettable sailing experience for any seasoned sailor. It’s her past that makes the yacht extra special, with stories of faraway exploration in mysterious destinations and a history of winning a series of prestigious regattas. AELLO’s previous owner was a Greek/Egyptian merchant with a background in museums and art collection, adding an extra element of intrigue to the vessel. Fun fact? AELLO is the last remaining large schooner to be designed by Max Oertz, making her a pretty special and rare find.
Built in 2000, 49.5m (162.5ft) sailing yacht ELEONORA exudes the kind of elegance you would find on an original classic yacht. After all, she was built using the original lines of legendary racing schooner WESTWARD – one of Herreshoff’s greatest designs. The yacht features a range of portholes and skylights to brighten the inside. Built at the Van der Graaf shipyard in Holland, she is one of the fastest yachts on the water and has successfully participated in a number of classic sailing regattas. Stepping aboard ELEONORA is like stepping back in time to the elegance and grandeur of another age.
Iconic 65.3m (214.3ft) sailing vessel CREOLE was used during WWII and has seen some major changes and upgrades over the years. After the war, she was completely unrecognisable which led to a major restoration in the mid-20 th century. She was eventually restored to her original design a decade after being built while under new ownership. The yacht has lived an exciting life, boasting meticulous design and craftsmanship. These days, CREOLE’s aft deck is a favourite spot for pure relaxation.
ATHOS is a 62m (203.5ft) yacht built in 2010 and designed in a classic style by Hoek Design. She can comfortably accommodate up to 12 guests and is proudly sailed by Captain Tony who has over 40 years’ experience in the yachting industry. Captain Tony has sailed the world six times and will be able to tell you all about the yacht’s history during your charter. As for entertainment, ATHOS features a terrific toybox bursting with paddleboards, Seabobs and plenty more!
A 49m (160ft) vintage schooner built in 1905 by the renowned Lawley & Sons South Boston shipyard. With design by Albert Stanton Chesebrough, the grandson of Nathanael Herreshoff, she has courted film stars such as Charlie Chaplin in the early years of her launch. Fans of classic sailing yachts might recognise INVADER from her sparkling world-record performance at the Transpac Race from Los Angeles to Honolulu in 1926. To this very day, she is a gracious sailing vessel with a range of exceptional features for guests to enjoy.
Instantly recognisable for her crisp white sails, 55m (180.5ft) ELENA is a meticulous recreation of the 1928 Transatlantic Race record holder. Built in 2009 with the original 1910 design in mind, she combines classic racing pedigree with contemporary comfort to add to her long list of standout features. The stately interiors add to the classic feel of the vessel as though stepping back in time to the roaring 20s. Speak to Captain Steve and the passionate crew to get to know the yacht in more detail.

What is the history of classic yacht Mariska?
Mariska, a sailing yacht with a rich history, was designed by the renowned William Fife and commissioned in 1908 by A.K. Stothert, a prominent yachtsman of the early 20th century. Fife, celebrated for his skill in creating both aesthetically magnificent and fast yachts, brought his expertise to Mariska’s design, embodying a blend of maritime history, architectural brilliance, and a legacy that extends through time. The creation of Mariska marked a significant chapter in the early 20th-century yacht design, as it was conceived not merely as a racing vessel but as a masterpiece of design and a symbol of ambition. Stothert’s vision was to push the boundaries of yacht engineering, seeking a yacht that excelled in racing while representing the elegance and sophistication of the era.
During an era marked by rapid advancements in yacht design and a burgeoning passion for maritime sports, Mariska stood out as a testament to innovation. Fife’s design incorporated cutting-edge innovations in naval architecture, featuring a sleek hull and an advanced rigging system, showcasing the yacht’s efficiency in harnessing wind power. Mariska’s competitive years, spanning from 1908 until World War II, were marked by triumphs and trials, making her a trendsetter in the golden age of yacht racing. With her speed, agility, and strategic prowess, Mariska became a notable contender, leaving a lasting legacy in the competitive sailing world. Preserving Mariska has been a meticulous process involving several refits, with each restoration reflecting a commitment to maintaining her original glory. The yacht’s continued relevance in the modern sailing world is evident as she participates in regattas, serving as a living legend and an educational tool, inspiring new generations.
Today, Mariska offers unique charter opportunities through Noblesse Yachts, allowing individuals and corporate entities to experience the magic of classic yachting firsthand. Mariska’s story, evolving with each wave she rides, continues to captivate and inspire, ensuring her legacy sails on for generations to come.

Are these the 8 most beautiful classic sailing yachts of all time?
Moonbeam of fife iii, 1903.
The 30 metre, gaff cutter Moonbeam of Fife III epitomises beautiful classic yachts at their finest. Launched in 1903, Moonbeam of Fife is still going strong on the classic yacht regatta circuit despite being more than a hundred years old. The William Fife-designed yacht is constructed in wood with an oak hull and superstructure, while her interior joinery is well-kept mahogany. The historical yacht Moonbeam of Fife III is currently for sale .
Tuiga, 1909
Built by the renowned William Fife shipyard in Fairlie on the Clyde estuary in Scotland, Tuiga was commissioned by the Duke of Medinaceli, a close friend of the King of Spain, Alfonso XIII, and has had 10 owners in 106 years. HSH Prince Albert II decided to buy her in 1995. Tuiga has been participating in classic yacht regattas ever since and is now the flagship of the Yacht Club de Monaco, crewed by YCM members.
Mariette, 1915
The classic 42 metre twin-masted schooner _ Mariette of 1915 _was built by Herreshoff in the United States 100 years ago. Age has not withered her, but Mariette of 1915 has undergone a few refits in the Pendennis yard at Falmouth in recent years: in 2010 and again in 2012 in preparation for the Pendennis Cup, in which she took first prize in the St Petroc Traditional Class as well as being crowned overall winner. In 2014 she returned to Falmouth once more for minor works.
Creole, 1927
Now owned by the Gucci family, this beautiful wooden schooner has had a colourful history. Commissioned by wealthy American Alan Cochran and launched in 1927, Creole has had a number of different owners and also been called Vira. When she was known as Magic Circle , she was transformed into a minesweeper during the Second World War, having previously competed in a number of regattas and attended previous America’s Cup events. In the 1970s she was used by the Danish government for sailing training in the rehabilitation of drug addicts before being bought by the Gucci family in 1983.
Endeavour, 1934
Arguably the world’s most famous J Class, Endeavour was the British challenger in the 1934 America’s Cup , but was beaten by the Harold Vanderbilt-owned Rainbow . Endeavour was commissioned by Sir T.O.M. Sopwith, who was keen to ensure that this yacht was the most advanced design possible. With his experience designing aircraft, Sopwith applied aviation technology to Endeavour ’s rig and winches and spared nothing to make her the finest vessel of her day.
She swept through the British racing fleet and into the hearts of yachtsmen around the world, winning many races in her first season. Though she did not win the America's Cup she came closer to doing so than any other challenger.
Since 1934, she has often led a perilous existence, even being sold to a scrap merchant in 1947 only to be saved by another buyer hours before her demolition was due to begin. In 1984, American yachtswoman Elizabeth Meyer bought Endeavour and she was transformed and rebuilt by Royal Huisman. Endeavour sailed again on June 22, 1989, for the first time in 52 years. J Class yacht Endeavour is now for sale .
Elena, 1910
In 1910, Morton Plant commissioned 55 metre Elena to be designed by American naval architect Nathanael Herreshoff, the so-called “Wizard of Bristol”, who made his name designing sailing yachts for America’s elite. Plant's brief was to the point: he wanted a schooner “that can win”.
Herreshoff gave Elena a slightly deeper keel than preceding designs of that time, lowering her centre of ballast, which improved her windward ability. Elena won most of her early races against the cream of the American schooner fleet and in 1928 came her crowning glory, victory in the Transatlantic Race. In 2009, she was rebuilt using the original plans for the first Elena.
Black Swan, 1899
Originally designed by Charles Nicholson and built in 1899 at Camper and Nicholson in Gosport, England, Black Swan started life as Brynhild with a yawl rig. She won a number of races at the beginning of the 20th century, including the King’s Cup. Over the years, she has undergone several changes and different rig configurations, and at one stage she was renamed Changrilla . She was rechristened Black Swan in the 1960s and, today, after an extensive restoration project at the Beconcini yard in La Spezia, Italy, she is now carrying a gaff-rig, designed by the Faggioni Yacht Design Studio and built by Harry Spencer.
Mariquita, 1911
Another beautiful classic yacht from Fife, Mariquita was launched in 1911. The 38.16 metre sailing yacht was designed and built for the industrialist Arthur Stothert. As part of the 19 metre Big Class racing that re-emerged in 1911, this gaff-rigged cutter is said to have inspired the J Class yachts that came after her.
She raced competitively against her brethren from 1911-1913, but by the 1950s, Mariquita was the last in the 19 metre class remaining. She was restored in 1991 and received a further refit in 2004. A star on the classic yacht racing scene, Mariquita is now for sale .

Capt. Nate & Payton were great! We did an engagement shoot on the boat and they were unbelievably helpful. They were extremely accommodating to the photographer and worked to position the boat perfectly as the sun was setting. Siena is a beautiful boat and the west river is idyllic. Can't recommend enough.
Captain Tony was great host and helped us have a fantastic experience. He even taught my husband some sailing skills, which allowed me to relax, have some snacks and drinks. Boat was clean and very well maintained. He has a strong commitment to saftey and is very knowledgable about sailing. Highly encourage others to book a trip with him.
My fiancé and I are both from New England and grew up by the water, so we knew we wanted a nautical setting for our engagement photos. We had a fabulous time with Classic Sail Charters on the beautiful Siena! Captain was so helpful in offering to angle the boat this way and that for better light and even raising or collapsing sails. We'll definitely be back!
My husband I along with our two grown children (in their 30's), had a wonderful day with decent wind in July sailing at times to 15 knots! Captain Tony was accommodating and friendly. He had a variety of snacks and beverages on board and encouraged participation in sailing the boat as well as relaxing in the sun or shade! We will definitely do this again and we're thinking of also offering this as a gift to my parents who also love to sail.
This past Friday, we joined Capt. Tony aboard the Licentia for an afternoon sailing the Bay. We had a great afternoon sailing and motoring (we lost the wind) around the Bay and through the Annapolis Harbor. Capt. Tony is very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. He has loads of sailing experience and all enjoyed his sea stories. Would we go again? Absolutely - planning a trip for next May.
Four of us sailed with Captain Tony on 2 different trips - one afternoon and one morning. Both days were fantastic and relaxing and lovely. The 2nd trip we lost the wind eventually so motored around the Bay and Annapolis and Tony gave us some history and stories. He is delightful and skilled and we had a terrific time. We will definitely plan another trip one of these day.

16 Yacht Charters That Make for a Strangely Affordable Family Vacation
Posted: December 11, 2023 | Last updated: December 12, 2023
While a yacht may be the first thing that pops to mind when you think of the ultra-wealthy, chartering one might not be as expensive as you think. When you're splitting the costs between several family members or friends you are paying for transportation and stay and it can make sense financially.
You can also keep money in your wallet by selecting an older vessel or taking charge of sailing yourself (hiring a crew always costs extra).
So let’s take a look at options that may be within reach for people who aren’t living paycheck to paycheck but aren’t brunching with the Kardashians either.
Editor's note: prices are subject to change and may vary depending on the time of the year.

San Antonio motor yacht
The San Antonio is a luxury motor yacht measuring 146 feet in length that was built in 2018. This huge vessel is capable of accommodating 36 guests in 18 cabins.
The cost to charter it starts at $21,000 per week plus expenses, not including a crew of eight (which we recommend).
Divide the cost by capacity, and that’s only $583 per person per week to start. That’s practically unbeatable for a boat of this size, allowing you to make other savvy moves with your money .

Virginia Mia motor yacht
Constructed in 2001 (with several subsequent refits), the Virginia Mia is another luxury motor yacht that’s 95 feet in length.
Custom-designed by Nuvolari Lenard, this vessel can sleep eight guests in four cabins as well as an additional crew of four.
Still, thanks to the age of the yacht, the cost of chartering starts at $15,000 plus expenses per week, or just under $2,000 per guest sans crew.
Nautilus sailing yacht
White motor yachts are convenient and luxe, sailing yachts promise a more traditional experience.
At nearly 125 feet, the Nautilus is a large option styled by Robert Delus. Built in 2008, it sleeps 10 guests in five cabins. At this size, you'll likely need a crew of six.
The cost to charter this beauty starts at $17,500 per week sans expenses, again just under $2,000 per person — which really isn't bad for all you're getting.
Grow Your $$: 11 brilliant ways to build wealth after 40
Aegean Clipper sailing yacht
The Aegean Clipper is another sailing vessel, this one built all the way back in 1999 — which translates into cost savings for you.
The yacht is another biggie at nearly 135 feet. With 11 cabins, the boat can accommodate up to 24 guests plus five crew members as needed.
In total, your group will have to shell out a minimum of $13,000 plus expenses per week — just over $379 per person. That's a great deal, comparatively speaking.
Silver Fox expedition yacht
If you're looking for something a little smaller that can go the distance, the Silver Fox expedition yacht might be for you.
Built in 2009, the 72-foot yacht accommodates six guests in three cabins for a more intimate experience. There's room for a crew of two if you need their expertise.
With a starting cost of $16,500 per week, the Silver Fox will run each person over $2,700 per week, but the small group may be worth it.
Tivoli expedition yacht
Traveling with a group of the same size but want more length and a bigger crew?
The Tivoli expedition yacht, constructed in 2001 and remodeled in 2010, can fit four crew members. This stunner is just over 90 feet long and can take you on those long hauls.
Yes, it will cost more at $25,000 per week, or over $4,100 per person. But if you can afford it, it’s a dream come true out on the open water.

Shangri-La classic yacht
Classics are classics for a reason, as they stand the test of time. Such is the case with the Shangri-La, a vintage yacht sure to take you to that magical place.
This vessel sleeps six in three cabins and promises to be child-friendly. The Shangri-La was constructed way back in 1965, and it is 82 feet long with space for three crew members.
A week on this rig will cost you $16,500, or just over $2,700 a pop.
Sai Kung classic yacht
Another vintage beauty, the Sai Kung classic yacht was born in 1975 and got a makeover in 2015. That updated this 79-foot vessel that can sleep nine people in four cabins.
Be sure you’re a nautical whiz, as there’s no room for additional crew here, but that will only save you money.
All told, the Sai Kung will set your group back $17,500 per week, just under $2,000 per person.
Glorious open yacht
Outdoor yachts are designed for those who truly want to live outside, which you can do easily on the Glorious.
This sporty 72-footer is ready to help you dive, scuba, and more, with room for six guests in three cabins. You can bring a crew of two for extra help, of course.
Built in 2007 and remodeled nine years later, chartering the Glorious will run you $16,500 per week, again $2,700 per person.
9 nearly secret things to do if you fly Southwest
Speedy T open yacht
Looking for a bigger open yacht that’s perfect for swim buffs? Charter the Speedy T, a vessel that’s 80 feet long and primed for dips in refreshing ocean waters.
Like many of the yachts on this list, it accommodates six guests in three cabins and has room for three crew members.
All told, one week on this sleek ship — built in 1994 and renovated in 2011 — is $19,500 before expenses, translating to $3,250 per head. But the adventure promises to be unforgettable.
Etoile Magique catamaran yacht
With extra stability even at higher speeds, catamaran yachts like the Etoile Magique are great options for adventure.
This 80-foot vessel is roomy for its size, with room for 16 guests in eight cabins. There’s space for a three-person crew, too.
Constructed in 2004 and remodeled a decade later, this is a budget-friendly adventure in the making. At $18,710 per week before expenses, that shakes out to a bit over $1,100 apiece.
Fuerte 3 catamaran yacht
Meaning “strong” in Spanish, the Fuerte 3 catamaran yacht — built in 2004 and renovated in 2010 — offers a more intimate experience than the Etoile Magique, with space for nine guests in four cabins.
On the smaller side, at 67 feet, you can bring two crew members along if you need them. The price tag for one week is around $22,000, or just over $2,400 a pop. This vessel is best in shallower waters.
Astrape sport fishing yacht
If your idea of the perfect vacation is sport fishing, this boat is for you. The Astrape sport fishing yacht comes with top-of-the-line fishing equipment so you can catch your dream fish.
Built in 2008 and remodeled in 2016, the 76-foot vessel sleeps eight in four cabins. It also has room for three crew members.
On the pricier side at $29,000, a week will cost each person nearly $3,700 — worth it if you can show off that once-in-a-lifetime catch, though!
Barefoot sport fishing yacht
Giving us some real Orca energy, the Barefoot sport fishing yacht was built in 2006 — much later than that famed vessel from "Jaws."
The 64-foot boat is designed for fishing in shallower waters, perfect for you and five friends who will share three cabins. Two crew members can fit, too.
This yacht is cheaper than the Astrape at $17,500, so six folks will pay just under $3,000 a head per week.
Prenses Lila gulet yacht
Gulet yachts are known for their tall masts, ample deck space, and Turkish origins — perfect for a Mediterranean voyage.
To that end, the Prenses Lila is an excellent option for groups of 18. At 114 feet with eight cabins and space for five crew members, this boat beckons.
You can charter Prenses Lila — built in 2009 and remodeled in 2009 — for $17,500 per week in September.
Dreamland gulet yacht
The second gulet yacht and the final boat we’re covering is Dreamland, which will surely take you there.
Constructed in 2006, 12 guests can sleep in six suites on this 105-foot vessel as well as five crew members.
You can book Dreamland for around $26,000 in high season. Divide that by 12, and you land on about $2,200 per person. That might require some financial fitness , but yachts like this don’t come around every day.
Bottom line
Spending your days sunning and swimming aboard a luxurious yacht may seem like an out-of-reach proposition, but we’re here to tell you it’s possible.
In fact, with planning and savvy budgeting, you can score your dream seafaring adventure. You can even use your favorite credit card to book and earn travel rewards .
Traveling by charter yacht is also more environmentally friendly than flying, which means you can feel good about your sailing vacation.
