The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.

A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

The added bonus is that she also offers more experienced sailors impressive performance potential, pedigree handling and high specification throughout.

The beamy, chined hull inspires great confidence making the Omega more stable and easy to control. The huge, spacious cockpit with its gnav (boom vang on top of the boom) offers roomy and comfortable sailing for a large crew.

The Omega comes with Dacron sails made by Hyde. Furling jib is standard. The mast head flotat is included with every boat and this, together with the boat’s sealed mast offers safe, fun family sailing. Righting lines and grab rails are all fitted as standard.

The boat can be sailed single-handed or depowered using Selden’s simple single-line reefing system in the mainsail.

The single-line halyard makes for easy launch and retrieval of the gennaker which could be operated by beginner sailors.

The boat comes with epoxy centerboard and rudders fit for a high end racing class and all fixtures and fittings are of the highest quality available.

Review of Omega 30 S

Basic specs..

The hull is made of fibreglass. Generally, a hull made of fibreglass requires only a minimum of maintenance during the sailing season. And outside the sailing season, just bottom cleaning and perhaps anti-fouling painting once a year - a few hours of work, that's all.

The boat equipped with a fractional rig. A fractional rig has smaller headsails which make tacking easier, which is an advantage for cruisers and racers, of course. The downside is that having the wind from behind often requires a genaker or a spinnaker for optimal speed.

The Omega 30 S is equipped with a fin keel. The fin keel is the most common keel and provides splendid manoeuvrability. The downside is that it has less directional stability than a long keel.

The keel is made of iron. Many people prefer lead keel in favour of iron. The main argument is that lead is much heavier than iron and a lead keel can therefore be made smaller which again result in less wet surface, i.e. less drag. In fact iron is quite heavy, just 30% less heavy than lead, so the advantage of a lead keel is often overstated. As the surface of a fin type keel is just a fraction of the total wet surface, the difference between an iron keel and a lead keel can in reality be ignored for cruising yachts.

The boat can enter most marinas as the draft is just about 1.55 - 1.65 meter (5.09 - 5.39 ft) dependent on the load. See immersion rate below.

The boat is typically equipped with an inboard Yanmar diesel engine at 6 hp (4 kW). Calculated max speed is about 3.5 knots

The theoretical maximal speed of a displacement boat of this length is 6.9 knots. The term "Theoretical Maximum Hull Speed" is widely used even though a boat can sail faster. The term shall be interpreted as above the theoretical speed a great additional power is necessary for a small gain in speed.

The immersion rate is defined as the weight required to sink the boat a certain level. The immersion rate for Omega 30 S is about 157 kg/cm, alternatively 883 lbs/inch. Meaning: if you load 157 kg cargo on the boat then it will sink 1 cm. Alternatively, if you load 883 lbs cargo on the boat it will sink 1 inch.

Yacht arrangement

The 82m O’Mega built to the highest SOLAS standards. The yacht was initially built in 1985 by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Co. Ltd., and underwent a total re-construction in its hull and superstructure features in 2004 by Golden Yachts. In order to be able to guarantee the highest seaworthiness and safety, all of the machinery and auxiliaries were fully overhauled and all necessary inspections were approved by Bureau Veritas Classification Society. Moreover, the remaining technological equipment and machinery were also replaced in order to ensure that the yacht had nothing to envy from a total new building. This former passenger vessel was converted into a majestic mega yacht that has managed to set a class of its own guaranteeing guest safety without compromising comfort and elegance.

The O’Mega’s gracious interior by Giorgio Vafiadis is fitted with mahogany paneling, built-in furniture, custom made linens, carpets, and handmade fabrics; all of which are Italian made. All areas are distinctly decorated with the finest materials as well as highest quality marbles throughout. The main deck is comprised of a large exterior seating area, a spacious salon, dining area, conference room, gymnasium, and five double and five twin en-suite staterooms all equipped with LCD screens, DVD’s, and surround system entertainment. The upper deck features another outdoor dining area and bar, a salon and piano bar, a full width owner’s stateroom, and four VIP suites. The fifth VIP cabin with a panoramic view is located on the Bridge Deck. The sun deck of O’Mega, featuring two spacious sunbathing areas, a large jacuzzi, and a bar, is the place to be onboard.

Exterior Design

With harmonious lines and concave shapes defining the exterior of superyacht EMIR, it’s no surprise that she’s instantly recognisable when out on the water. Finished in arctic white, the outdoor living spaces are largely to be found towards the aft deck and on the upper deck. With comfortable furnishings abounding to provide numerous options for enjoying the climate whilst away on charter, there are also plenty of alfresco dining spaces conveniently situated underneath partial shading. Committed to providing a range of possibilities for such large charter parties, Studio Vafiadis have equipped the exterior of EMIR with a handful of lounge-like areas which can be easily serviced by the attentive. What’s more, with a retractable swim platform extending off the transom, charterers are also able to easily access the water to enjoy the tenders and toys on offer.

Interior Design

The stunning interior of EMIR is largely inspired by classic aesthetics, with a number of elegantly crafted soft furnishings allowing guests to unwind and socialise in the utmost comfort. With fabrics coming from the collections of Rubelli, Lelievre and Scardigli, charterers are sure to feel inspired by their surroundings in both the communal and guest spaces. Indeed, from the spacious main salon through to the dedicated dining room and the VIP salon, there is a sense of sophistication which helps to establish an appropriately luxurious ambience. As something of a counterpoint to such glamour, the home cinema which was integrated during the refit in 2022 is composed of modern fixtures and the latest in visual and audio systems. Getting between such impressive spaces is just as much of an awe-inspiring experience, with intricate marble flooring and engaging pieces lining the corridors. Other standout features which grace the interior of superyacht EMIR include fluted pillars, original oil paintings, and some of the most impressive dark mahogany joinery to be found on any superyacht.

Guest Accommodation

As such a highly voluminous vessel with accommodation for up to 28 guests, it should come as no surprise that motor yacht EMIR is complete with 14 exceptional staterooms. The most impressive of these suites is no doubt the master cabin situated forward on the upper deck. Offering panoramic views through semicircle windows which face forward, charterers occupying this cabin are able to wake up in only the most appropriate fashion Finished with yellow and white onyx, the bathroom adjacent to the suite forms the perfect complement to such an expertly designed stateroom. The 5 VIP cabins which are also available on EMIR are just as well-appointed. The VIP stateroom found on the bridge deck, for example, offers similarly outstanding views, and is only a little smaller than the master. The additional 4 doubles and 5 twins are superbly finished, with entertainment systems and comfortable fixtures populating the spaces.

Watch: 31m Wally sailing yacht washed ashore following storm in Formentera, Spain

The 30.5-metre Wally sailing yacht Wally Love has run aground following a storm on the Spanish island of Formentera. Footage taken by a bystander shows the yacht out of the water and listing on her starboard side close to shore. Several other sailing yachts have run aground alongside her. 

The State Meteorological Agency informed the public of a "strong destabilisation of the atmosphere" yesterday (13 August).

The latest weather update was published an hour ago and warned of hail "exceeding two centimetres in diameter" and very strong gusts of winds in excess of 100km per hour.

A number of other 24-metre-plus builds are in the direct vicinity according to BOATPro , including the 35-metre Benetti Sea Belle and the 29.1-metre Sanlorenzo yacht Francamarina .

At the time of writing, local news outlets have claimed that more than a dozen sailing boats are aground. Several injuries have also been reported but are unconfirmed.

Wally Love was delivered in 2007 to a design by Luca Bassani . She is equipped for bluewater cruising and has a family friendly layout which includes a line-free cockpit, a versatile foredeck for entertaining and a swim platform that lowers into the water.
