Windrose of Amsterdam

When Chris Gongriep wanted to finish his 13-metre wooden barge under his own management in 1990, little did he know that the shipyard he founded for this purpose, De Hemmes , would be the start of a bright future as a world-renowned superyacht builder.

While customers continued to request well-known Lemsteraken , Chris’ ambition grew into building the ideal charter yacht. After years of extensive study, Sapphire was built in 1996, a classic 31-metre sailing yacht. This was the start for Holland Jachtbouw and the transition to aluminium sailing and motor yachts was made.

Holland Jachtbouw grew into a successful yard with an extensive delivery program for superyachts up to 130 feet. The portfolio of more than thirty prestigious classic and modern superyachts in various categories demonstrate the craftsmanship and unlimited possibilities of the yard.

Athos , Topaz and Rainbow are just a few examples of dreams becoming reality; each demonstrating the extreme precision, passion for detail and love of craftsmanship with which they are built. Only dedicated specialists with decades of experience can achieve the quality of finish in new construction as well as refits and restorations. It is this quality, expertise and love for the profession that attracted the international clientele to Holland Jachtbouw.

Chris passed away in 2016 and at the request of his heirs, VMG Yachtbuilders continues the Holland Jachtbouw legacy with great respect for its founder. Its legacy is a fitting addition to VMG’s portfolio, which is in the same segment up to about 90 feet. Holland Jachtbouw is therefore moving to Enkhuizen, the epicenter of traditional yacht building and where the love and passion for craftsmanship is passed on from generation to generation.

Like a Phoenix rising from its ashes, Holland Jachtbouw will build the next generation of future classics at its new state-of-the-art location.

The Very Best of Dutch Yacht Builders

Dutch yacht builders have crafted a reputation as being among the world’s very best, with an extraordinary density of high quality, high value shipyards operating out of the Netherlands.

Part of the reason for the dominance of Dutch yacht builders in the superyacht industry stems from Holland’s prestigious history of boat building, which stretches back centuries and was perfectly poised to make the shift to constructing luxury yachts during the 20th century. The word ‘yacht’ originally comes from the Dutch word ‘jacht’, meaning hunt.

Some of the towering names of the yachting world have emerged from Holland, with the great heritage yards Amels, Hakvoort, Royal Huisman, De Vries and Royal Van Lent more recently joined by other outstanding Dutch yacht builders such as Heesen, Vitters, and Oceanco.

Dutch shipyards are heralded not only for their world-class build quality, high tech yards, and innovation, but are also renowned for reliability in finishing projects on time and on budget. With Dutch shipyards producing many fully-custom ‘one-off’ yachts, many of the yachts launched from Holland’s shipyards are extremely iconic and often win international awards.

Dutch yacht builders have also capitalized on their individual reputations for quality construction by forming strong collaborations including Feadship and HISWA, which serve to market the best of Dutch yachting internationally, thereby growing the influence of the Dutch yacht builders.

Notable Dutch Yacht Builders

This prestige brand is often known as the ‘Rolls Royce’ of yacht builders, constructing fully custom yachts from a ‘blank slate’ beginning. Feadship is actually a partnership between two of the greatest Dutch shipyards: De Vries and Royal Van Lent, with yacht building roots dating back to 1849. The Feadship fleet today is more than 450 strong, and includes some ground-breaking yachts including AQUARIUS and ECTASEA.

Founded in 1918 and boasting the largest and most high-tech shipyard in the Netherlands, Amels turned its hand to superyacht construction in the 1980’s. Amels builds fully custom yachts up to 656’ (200m), as well as their highly sought-after ‘Limited Edition Series’. Known for exceptional build quality and iconic yachts including HERE COMES THE SUN, Amels also builds a popular range of support yachts for superyachts through DAMEN, its parent company.

Royal Huisman

This family-run shipyard was founded in 1884, and has produced some of the finest sailing yachts afloat, with a long line of regatta honors and design awards across its fleet of maxi-yachts and performance cruisers. While its fame is recognized across the world for building sailing yachts such as ATHENA, Royal Huisman also builds motoryachts, including the award winning ARCADIA.

Hakvoort is another illustrious Dutch shipyard which dates back to 1919 and builds sailing and motoryachts up to 215’ (65m). With yachts constructed in steel and aluminum, Hakvoort offers a full-custom service from design to launch, as well as a 180’ (55m) semi-custom series. They have launched many notable, award-winning yachts, from LADY MARINA in 1994 to APOSTROPHE in 2013.

Founded in 1979, Heesen has enjoyed a meteoric rise in the yachting industry, and is now considered one of the most innovative Dutch yacht builders. Initially known as a builder of fast performance yachts, Heesen has expanded its yacht building capacity up to 260’ (80m) and has achieved notoriety for its revolutionary design and engineering, such as the Fast Displacement Hull Form first seen on multi-award-winning GALACTICA STAR.

One of the most respected names in sailing, the Vitters shipyard was founded in 1990 and has gone on to launch luxury sailing yachts known for winning superyacht regattas and international design awards. Constructing yachts over 30m with an uncompromising focus on quality and design, Vitters has received accolades for yachts including SARISSA, GANESHA and AQUIJO. Vitters also owns the Green Marine yard, which is responsible for building the Volvo Ocean Race fleet.

This Dutch yacht builder specializes in the large yacht market, constructing fully custom superyachts over 260’ (80m) in aluminum and steel. Oceanco opened its doors in 1990 and has been responsible for the launch of some of the industry’s most well-known yachts, including ALFA NERO, ANASTASIA and the largest Dutch yacht to be built thus far, the 360’ (110m) JUBILEE.

Located in the medieval Dutch town of Den Bosch, Moonen Shipyards is one of the world’s most well-known motoryacht builders. Having launched their first boat in 1963, Moonen pride themselves in quality and service and offer diverse options in the upper echelons of the yacht industry for fully customized superyachts up to 150’ (45m), custom series displacement yachts, explorer vessels or fast displacement all-aluminum powerboats.

Established as a family-owned shipyard in 1938, Mulder has become a renowned member of the Dutch yacht building family. The yards’ global reputation for quality has been built upon three main pillars: the classic Super Favorite Cruisers, the later Favorite Superior and a range of Mulder custom-built motor yachts from 42’ to 147’ (13m to 45m).

Van der Valk

A passionate yacht enthousiast, Wim van der Valk started the company that bears his name in 1967, and is still driving force behind it today. In applying the most advanced solutions, systems and materials possible, this pedigreed Dutch yacht builder believes in creating yachts that will stand the test of time. In the late 1990s, they introduced their signature product – the Continental I series. Today, to ensure unrivaled quality and exclusivity, Van Der Valk produces a select, limited number of Continental yachts each year.

Hartman Marine Group

Founded in 2003, Hartman Marine Group has roots which span back to 1775 with a heritage of seven generations of skipper-owners. Hartman yachts hold a timeless and fresh style without compromising practicality and superb comfort, in the true fashion of Dutch boatbuilding excellence. The Schiffart Yachtcharter is a full-service yacht charter company in Terherne on the Sneekermeer. A great location at the heart of the Frisian lake region. Our family business contains a yacht wharf, yacht rental company, yacht marina and a water sports shop. We have built up a very varied fleet over the years, meaning there is a suitable boat for every type of water sports enthusiasts. This fleet includes; sturdy compact cabin motorboats ( Doerakken , Brûzers ), modern cruisers , boats with spacious open cabin , royal class cutter yachts , luxurious Super Lauwersmeers and spacious 2+2 yachts .

Ideally located charter harbour in Holland

Terherne is a fantastic boat departure point as a result of its central location in the Friesian waters, on the Sneekermeer and near Sneek.

No boating license required

You will not need a boating licence for our boats. It goes without saying everyone going out on our boats will be given a full technical explanation before departure.

A harbour with plenty of extras

The harbour boasts some excellent sanitary facilities, power and water at the jetties and parking spaces for tenants on our own private site, right next to the harbour.

Non-stop-service

Our yachts are all in top condition. However, should you experience any problems whilst you are on the water: no problem at all, our technical service staff will be with you in a flash!

Rent a motorboat for 2 to 8 people

2-4 persons.

For someone who is new to watersporting, the Doerak is an ideal motorboat for cruising in Friesland. But the Doerak is also a suitable motorboat for more experienced skippers. The boat is compact, but thanks to its form it is spacious inside. Each Doerak has a bow thruster, which means they are very easy to manoeuvre!

2-5 persons

The Brûzer is a robust motorboat with classic lines, which is easy to sail. With its unique form the boat offers a lot of space inside, while remaining compact. This means that this motorboat offers the possibility of many cruising routes and you can discover all of Friesland's waterways!

The Kruiser

2-8 persons.

Experience a marvellous holiday on the water with a number of people. Our modern cruisers offer plenty of space, luxury and steering comfort. The perfect motorboat for 2-8 people. The Kruiser is a great boat for discovering Friesland in company!

Luxury open cockpit boats

Prefer a slightly more special motoryacht? Then a luxury motorboat with an open cockpit is a great choice. Suitable for 2-4 persons and just a bit different from the average rental boat. A cruising holiday becomes even more fun and relaxing with one of these motorboats!

The Kotter-Yacht

Rent a motoryacht with all the family, or even 2 families. This yacht has a very spacious interior, and the space is cleverly allocated to offer plenty of privacy, generous fixed berths and a shower and toilet both fore and aft. Cruise Friesland in style!

2+2 motoryachts

4-6 persons.

When we talk about a 2+2 motoryacht we mean, two completely equal cabins. Namely, two bathrooms (with toilet and shower) and two spacious bedrooms, each with a generous double bed. These luxury yachts are particularly suitable for two couples.

• Luxury motorboats

The luxury motorboats are for those who want to enjoy cruising, but want to do so with every convenience you can get into a boat. For example, central heating, double glazing, bow and stern thrusters, generous beds and bathrooms, and of course an attractive design!

Where can I cruise to with my motorboat?

Cruising on a motorboat is naturally not as fast as driving a car. This can sometimes make it difficult to judge distances. From our marina in Terherne via the Sneekermeer to Sneek takes approximately 1 hour. The cruising area that is permitted with our ships is: Friesland (Sailing is only permitted on the IJsselmeer for ships longer than 12 metres and equipped with an IJsselmeer package), Overijssel, Groningen and Drenthe.

we like to come back We did not know that the Turftour had so many locks and bridges that most bridges and locks were closed at 16.00, unfortunately we were only able to make a trip to the village on the second day It is a pity that the transfer from the boat is very late in the afternoon, it would be nice, it is a little earlier pity the boat has to be returned very early in the morning ... so you have to be very careful during the Turftour that you drive the boat quickly without seeing much of the places ...... 4,4 Karin Muegge

Another great trip 6 Months ago I enjoyed my first trip with Schiffart yacht charter and a Bruzer as well. again, all was extremely well arranged, the boat, the inventory, the cleanliness and the welcome. Friesland and the Marekritte did the rest. A perfect boat for shallow water exploration while the heater kept the colder weather out. I will surely be back for another visit. 5,0 Jelle

Proficiat cruiser 'Antoinette'

Cruiser Antoinette 11.00 meter

The cruiser Antoinette is a schip for 2 til 6 persons. The ship has an upper and lower steering area. The boat offers a beautiful view over the Friesian landscape. Also due to the good overview on this boat it is easier to manouver.

Foreship: Closed bedroom with a bunk. Dinette: Kitchen with cupboard space and full equipment like pots and pans, 4-burner gas hob, microwave, spacious fridge and coffee maker. Salon: With steering area and side entrances. Stern: closed room with a double bed, sink, shower and toilet. Sundeck with swimming ladder and platform. Vacuum cleaner and color TV are on board.

Proficiat cruiser 'Pegasus'

Cruiser Pegasus 11.00 meter

The CruiserPegasus is a modern schip for 2 till 6 persons. The schip has top steering area, so you have a good view when you are sailing. The Iris has a cabriolet cap fitting so you can always steer dry. It is not allowed for the Pegasus to go to the IJsselmeer.

For: Closed bedroom with a double bed, kitchen with stainless steel sink, cupboard space with pots and pans etc., 4-burner gas hob, seating area that can be made into a double bed. Midships: Spacious round seating area, side and rear entrance. Rear-cabin: Closed bedroom with double bed, handshower, washbasin and toilet. Sun-deck with boarding ladder and platform.

Pegasus and Iris are identical.
