Australian model ship clubs.

With its rugged coastline and immense inland river systems, Australia has an extraordinary maritime heritage. There are more than 6500 historic shipwrecks that lie beyond Australia’s shores. Each has a unique story and an important place in our heritage. These encompass convict transports, clipper ships, colonial trading vessels, steamships, harbour craft and much more.
It is important to pass on the maritime history of Australia with the next generations. There are a number model ship clubs across Australia that aim to do just this.
Canberra Model Shipwrights Society
Canberra Model Shipwrights Society was established in Canberra, in the Australian Capital Territory, on 21 April 1988. It has the objectives of fostering and maintaining interest in building and constructing scale model ships, boats and associated fittings, gear, equipment, armaments and relevant items and structures and the pursuit of excellence in this field.
The Society publishes a quarterly newsletter containing items of interest to members. The Society also publishes material such as Workshop Notes and critiques and comments regarding publications, books, model kits, materials, drawings and plans which may be available to members.
Ship Modelling Society of Victoria
The Ship Modelling Society of Victoria was established in Melbourne in 1938 to encourage, and to provide facilities for, the furtherance of the art of ship modelling. It is primarily an association for people with an interest in ship modeling, in all its forms (plastic, wood, card, period or modern ships, and remote control). The association also welcomes anyone with an interest in maritime art, photography or literature.
The Society provides an opportunity for members to mix and converse with those of a like mind and fosters the exchange of ideas, research and experience. We have an extensive library of books and plans that are available for the exclusive use of members. The newsletter, “Slipway”, is promulgated quarterly and contains news and articles of interest to members.
Sydney Model Shipbuilders Club
The Sydney Model Shipbuilders Club aims to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and techniques relevant to model ship building. Meeting in Sydney regularly the club also hosts an annual model ship exhibition.
Task Force 72 Scale Model Ship Association
Task Force 72 Scale Model Ship Association provides Association members, potential members and members of the general public with information about the association and its activities. They focus on R/C 1:72 scale model naval and merchant vessels.
Maritime Heritage Association
The Maritime Heritage Association is a not for profit organisation formed in 1989 aimed at preserving and promoting the Maritime Heritage of Western Australia.
