Rolex Jubilee Bracelet: Complete Guide

Rolex GMT-Master II 126710BLNR

The bracelet on which a watch is on actually plays an important role in how the watch looks and wears.

Over the years, Rolex has made some designs of watches that have become true icons, but over time, Rolex’s bracelets have also come to become loved, iconic, and appreciated watch bracelet thanks to their design, comfort, and look.

In this article, we will focus on the Rolex Jubilee bracelet. Because just like with their watches, Rolex has continuously improved, redesigned, and refined its bracelet in order to be more reliable, more robust, and ultimately, ” perpetual ”.

This goes in line with Rolex as a brand of always trying to perfect and improve. Remember, Rolex is not about revolution, but evolution. This is why the Jubilee bracelet from Rolex today is so much more reliable and robust compared to when it was first launched.

Rolex Jubilee Oyster clasp

Rolex jubilee bracelet: History and background

The Rolex Jubilee bracelet was first launched in 1945. As the name suggests, it was released to celebrate a jubilee. More specifically, in celebration of Rolex’s 40th anniversary. Originally, the Jubilee bracelet was specifically designed for the Datejust line, but as you know, that is not the case today.

Over the years, the Jubilee bracelet has been improved and refined, but in its design, it remains largely unchanged throughout the years. Initially, the Jubilee bracelet was only available in solid gold but eventually came to become offered in two-tone and steel variants. The reason for this is that the President bracelet stepped up and took this place as Rolex’s premier bracelet option when it was released in the 1950s. Today, the Jubilee bracelet is made in all metals except full gold and platinum.

Further on, the Jubilee bracelet was also offered on some of Rolex’s Professional models such as the GMT-Master. This has now come full swing, as Rolex, after a break, now offers professional watches with the Jubilee bracelet. More specifically some of the references in the GMT-Master II range.

Rolex GMT-Master II 126710BLNR

Each Rolex bracelet has its purpose and amongst the options of bracelets, the Jubilee bracelet is a mixture between the Oyster and President bracelet. It is less sporty and more elegant than the Oyster bracelet, but it is also less dressy than the President bracelet.

Over the years, the Jubilee bracelet has been used for a wide variety of watches, but technically, it has always remained the same. Equally so in terms of looks, it still stays very true to the original design. This goes to show just how timeless the Jubilee bracelet design truly is.

Rolex Jubilee bracelet design

The Jubilee bracelet has a five-piece, semi-circular link design, which appears more luxurious and elegant than the Oyster because of having 5 links instead of 3. The increased number of links also means that the Jubilee bracelet catches the light beautifully and almost looks like a piece of jewelry in itself.

Rolex Jubilee bracelet

This design has come to become so iconic that it is a bracelet that you immediately associate with Rolex.

The three middle links on the Jubilee bracelet are polished, and the links on each side are brushed. The sides of the bracelet are polished, and the inside is brushed. The Jubilee bracelet links are flat on the inside, which makes the bracelet sit more snug against the wrist which really is a great design feature.

Rolex Jubilee bracelet reference numbers

Over the years, Rolex has released a number of different Jubilee bracelet references. Each new reference means a new revised and refined bracelet in one way or another. Some updates are more notable than others.

Something that has changed several times over the years is the clasp of the Jubilee bracelet.

Most notable of the Jubilee bracelets are the 7xxx and the 9xxx series with a dozen of end links to match.

The Rolex Jubilee 6251H was the bracelet of choice for the vintage Rolex GMT from its very early beginnings.

Furthermore, the Rolex Jubilee was an option offered on the early Rolex Daytona watches as it could accommodate both the 20mm for the GMT and the 19mm flush fit for the Daytona.

Originally, the first Jubilee bracelet in full gold featured an exposed, flat clasp with the Rolex crown at the top. Following, Rolex changed to smaller, larger, more modern, hidden, and now, the Oyster clasp.

Now, here are some of the reference numbers of the Jubilee bracelets:

  • 62523H Jubilee bracelet
  • 63600 Rolex Super Jubilee. Hidden crown clasp. Fits many sports models such as 16710BLNR.
  • 6251H The 6251H is the older, less robust version of the Jubilee reference 62510H. This is because the links are folded, unlike the 62510H which has solid links.
  • 6252h. Released in the 1960s.

The H at the end of the reference numbers stands for ” Homme ”, as in men.

In 2018 came a huge change to the Jubilee bracelet. Rolex originally offered the GMT-Master on Jubilee or Oyster bracelet, but eventually, Rolex removed the option of Jubilee bracelet for their steel sports models

However, in 2018, Rolex released their latest GMT-Master II in steel with a Pepsi bezel and Jubilee bracelet. Then in 2019, Rolex came to introduce yet another version of the new steel GMT-Master II on the Jubilee; the black and blue bezel version aka the Batman reference 126710BLNR.

With this launch, Rolex also stated that from now on, the GMT-Master II in steel will be  only  available with a jubilee bracelet.

Not only is this a major introduction to use the Jubilee bracelet for sports models, but it also goes to show that the Jubilee bracelet, while timeless, is very much in fashion right now.

Rolex Jubilee bracelet stretch

Probably the most notable issue with Rolex Jubilee bracelets is the immense stretch that they develop over time. This is particularly true for the earliest Jubilee bracelets. Over time, because of wear, the earlier Jubilee bracelets get a lot of stretch, even to the point where you hold the watch’s head on the side, the bracelet does almost a 90-degree turn.

Here is an example of what we mean:

Rolex Jubilee Bracelet: Complete Guide

Photo: https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=446594

When a bracelet gets this type of stretch, it not only becomes uncomfortable on the wrist, but the watch slides around on the wrist and doesn’t sit steady. But it is also a danger, as more stretch means even more wear, tear, and stress on the bracelet, which ultimately can mean that it will break. Now, all bracelets will get stretched over time when used, but depending on how they are built, they may get more or less stretch.

As written on Rolexforums:

”The “stretch” isn’t metal bending or weakening, it’s due to friction when the bracelet link pins rotate inside and wear the holes. The more the links move, the more they wear and looser they become. The result is an apparent “stretch”. Wearing your bracelet tight will reduce the movement of the links and reduce the rate of wear compared with if you wear your bracelet loose. Loose-wearing = accelerated wear/stretch.”

The stretch also has to do with dirt, grime, and such being abrasive and wearing the bracelet pins and links where they make contact. This is why, in particular, if you have an older Jubilee bracelet, it is a good idea to clean it with a toothbrush, soap, and warm water.

Note that Rolex does not fix the stretch of a bracelet if you send it in for repair. Instead, they will replace the bracelet.

Now, of course, Rolex has acknowledged this issue, since their goal is to manufacture watches and accessories that will last for generations. But as a matter of fact, the older Jubilee bracelets will barely last for one generation if used regularly. The reason why the earlier Jubilee bracelets got so much stretch is that they did not use solid links, similar to the Oyster bracelets of the time. Instead, the links are folded. The folded links do not provide the same robustness and resistance to wear as solid links.

Rolex Jubilee Bracelet: Complete Guide

Not only are the links folded, but the middle-link structure only consists of two metal ”rings”, which, as you can see in the image, are not very sturdy and robust.

The first step to making more robust Jubilee bracelets is introducing solid links, and this, of course, Rolex has done.

So, what has Rolex done about this issue?

Well, it’s safe to say that the issue with stretch on the Jubilee bracelets has become better and better with each new reference that Rolex has released. One of the major updates to the Jubilee bracelet is when they introduced solid links.

Rolex Jubilee Bracelet: Complete Guide

Another huge update to the most modern Jubilee bracelets is one that not everyone is aware of, and that is that Rolex has implemented ceramic into its links to minimize stretch. It’s something that most people will never find out, but which have a huge effect on the technical functionality of the bracelet and minimizing stretch.

Rolex Oyster bracelet VS Jubilee

This is an interesting comparison, and really, there’s no right or wrong here.

Some people just prefer the sportiness of the Oyster bracelet above the classiness of the Jubilee bracelet, or the other way around.

There’s no denying that the Oyster bracelet is far sportier and more robust than the Jubilee bracelet, so it depends on if you are more towards the dressier, or more towards the sportier side of things.

Both bracelets are of course finished to perfection and have a high feel of quality to them. Prior to the release of the GMT, the Jubilee bracelet was mainly seen as a classy dressier bracelet. But now that it is used on multiple steel sports watches, this perception has changed slightly.

Now, the Jubilee bracelet has proven that it is a perfect all-around bracelet that works all around. The Oyster bracelet, on the other hand, is not perceived as elegant, which makes it less suitable for more dressed-up occasions. Even though, of course, the Submariner, for example, has proven to work with a suit exceptionally well.

At the end of the day, it comes down to preference. Both the Jubilee and Oyster are great bracelets and really comfortable to wear.

Just like Rolex’s watches, the Jubilee bracelet has gotten an iconic place in history and in the world of watch bracelets. And like all of Rolex’s products, it has been iterated, improved, and refined, over the years, in order to be able to offer superior reliability and quality.

Today, the Jubilee bracelet is one of Rolex’s most popular bracelets which finds its way into more and more models from Rolex.

The fact that it was released in 1945 proves that, just like many of Rolex’s watches, they pass the test of time as truly timeless classics.

Rolex Jubilee Bracelet Guide

Understanding rolex jubilee bracelets.

The Rolex Jubilee bracelet, a symbol of elegance and timeless style, has a fascinating history. Launched in 1945 to commemorate Rolex’s 40th anniversary, it was initially designed for the Datejust line. Today, it graces a variety of Rolex watches, adding a touch of class to each piece.

A Blend of Sportiness and Elegance

The Jubilee bracelet is a unique blend of the sporty Oyster and the elegant President bracelet. Its five-piece, semi-circular link design catches the light beautifully, resembling a piece of jewelry. The three middle links are polished, while the outer links are brushed, creating a balance between sportiness and elegance.

Materials and Craftsmanship

Crafted from Oystersteel 904L, the same material used in the Oyster bracelet, the Jubilee bracelet is a testament to Rolex’s commitment to quality. It’s available in all metals except full gold and platinum, offering a range of options to suit different tastes.

Notable References

The Jubilee bracelet has been featured on some of Rolex’s Professional models, such as the GMT-Master. Notable references include the 7xxx and 9xxx series. In 2018, Rolex released their latest GMT-Master II in steel with a Pepsi bezel and Jubilee bracelet, further cementing its popularity.

Addressing the Stretch Issue

One issue with older Jubilee bracelets is stretch. However, Rolex has addressed this by introducing solid links and ceramic into the links to minimize stretch. This innovation showcases Rolex’s dedication to improving their products based on customer feedback.

Timeless Classic Status

Over the years, the Jubilee bracelet has become one of Rolex’s most popular bracelets.

Its timeless classic status is a testament to the craftsmanship and attention to detail that Rolex is known for. You can check the authenticity of your Rolex watch by its bracelet’s serial number, ensuring you own a genuine piece of Rolex history.

Choosing the Right Bracelet

Choosing between the Jubilee and Oyster bracelet often comes down to personal preference. The Jubilee bracelet is more refined and looks like a piece of jewelry, while the Oyster bracelet is sporty and masculine. Both bracelets have a 5mm adjustment for temperature changes, ensuring comfort in all conditions.

In essence, the Rolex Jubilee bracelet is a classic and timeless accessory that adds elegance to any watch it is paired with. Its long history, superior craftsmanship, and high-quality materials make it a favorite among watch enthusiasts. Styling Tips and Trends for Rolex Jubilee Bracelets

The Rolex Jubilee bracelet is a timeless classic that effortlessly blends sportiness and elegance. Its unique five-piece, semi-circular link design is a testament to Rolex’s superior craftsmanship. But how do you style this iconic piece? Let’s explore some tips and trends.

Pairing with Outfits

The Jubilee bracelet is incredibly versatile, making it a perfect match for both casual and formal attire. For a laid-back look, pair it with a crisp white shirt and jeans. For a more formal occasion, it complements a sleek suit or a little black dress perfectly. Remember, the key is to let your Rolex be the star of the show.

Accessorizing

When it comes to accessories, less is more. The Jubilee bracelet is a statement piece in itself, so keep other jewelry to a minimum. A simple pair of stud earrings or a thin chain necklace will do. If you’re wearing a watch with a Jubilee dial, avoid wearing bracelets on the same wrist to prevent scratching.

While the Jubilee bracelet is a timeless classic, Rolex continuously refines its bracelets, keeping up with the latest trends. For instance, the most modern Jubilee bracelets feature ceramic in the links to minimize stretch. This showcases Rolex’s commitment to innovation. Customizing Your Rolex

Want to add a personal touch to your Rolex? Consider customizing it. Everest Bands offers vegetable-tanned leather straps designed to connect seamlessly to a wide variety of Rolex cases. This allows you to switch up your look without compromising the integrity of your watch.

Buying Pre-Owned

If you’re looking for a unique piece, consider buying pre-owned. Bob’s Watches is an independent watch dealer that sells pre-owned Rolex watches, including those with Jubilee dials. This provides an opportunity to own a piece of Rolex history at a potentially lower price point.

The Rolex Jubilee bracelet is more than just a watch strap. It’s a symbol of luxury, prestige, and impeccable craftsmanship. Whether you’re dressing up for a formal event or running errands on a casual day, the Jubilee bracelet adds a touch of elegance to any outfit. So, wear it with confidence and let your Rolex do the talking.

Caring for Your Rolex Jubilee Bracelet

Caring for your Rolex Jubilee bracelet is crucial to maintain its elegance and longevity. Let’s delve into some essential tips and tricks to keep your bracelet in top-notch condition.

Regular Cleaning

A simple yet effective way to care for your bracelet is regular cleaning. A soft brush and warm soapy water can do wonders. Gently scrub the bracelet, paying particular attention to the links. Rinse with warm water and pat dry with a soft cloth. This routine can help maintain the bracelet’s shine and prevent dirt build-up.

Professional Servicing

While regular cleaning is beneficial, professional servicing is a must. Rolex recommends servicing your watch every 5 to 10 years. This includes a thorough cleaning and lubrication of the bracelet. Visit an authorized Rolex Service Center for this purpose.

Bracelet Restoration

Over time, your bracelet may show signs of wear and tear. This is where restoration comes in. Michael Young, a specialist in Rolex bracelet restoration, has restored over 50,000 bracelets. His process involves dismantling the links and reinforcing worn pins. He can fix all Rolex bracelets, including buckles.

You can contact him for bracelet repair and questions about restoring other Rolex models.

Gold Bracelet Care

Gold Rolex bracelets require extra care. They are challenging to restore, so prevention is key. Avoid exposing your gold bracelet to harsh chemicals or abrasive materials. Regular cleaning and professional servicing are especially important for these bracelets.

If you’re considering a pre-owned Rolex, do your due diligence. Check the bracelet’s condition and ask for its service history. Bob’s Watches is a reputable dealer of pre-owned Rolex watches, including those with Jubilee bracelets.

Passing on as Heirlooms

A Rolex Jubilee bracelet is not just a watch strap. It’s a piece of history, a symbol of luxury. With proper care, it can be passed on as an heirloom. So, cherish your Rolex, care for it, and it will serve you for generations.

Remember, a Rolex’s value remains constant if it’s genuine and correct to the type, including the bracelet. So, choose wisely and enjoy the elegance and sophistication that comes with owning a Rolex Jubilee bracelet. For more information on Rolex bracelets, visit the official Rolex website .

You’ve decided to take the plunge and get yourself a Rolex . Or, maybe you just put your name on a waiting list for your dream watch. Even if you’ve already got the model and exact variant in mind, though, you still might be faced with an important #richpeopleproblems choice: Oyster or Jubilee bracelet?

Not every Rolex watch comes with this decision, and these aren’t the only bracelet/strap styles the brand makes. But they’re the two bracelets most people are most likely to be choosing between. Getting a GMT Master II ? A Datejust ? A Sky-Dweller? You’ll have to take your pick.

Another reason it’s good to understand the differences between these two iconic bracelet styles is that other brands offer similar bracelets, as well — particularly the Oyster, which is the de facto tool watch bracelet style for many a brand.

rolex oyster and jubilee bracelets

So what are the differences between Oyster and Jubilee bracelets? Is one better than the other? A lot comes down to style, purpose and preference, but here’s what you’ll want to know in making any decision.

Jubilee is the swankier option

The Jubilee bracelet is so named because it was introduced on the Datejust at a jubilee event for Rolex’s 40th anniversary in 1945. The Jubilee is a five-link bracelet with its outer links brushed on top, and its three inner links mirror-polished.

With shorter links, and more of them, however, a complicated look makes it stand out, and it’s the classic choice for a model like the Datejust — that’s made for genteel activities more than rough-and-tumble ones. It’ll make a watch feel more dressy and a bit more flashy compared to the no-nonsense vibes of the Oyster, and that includes sporty models. Rolex sports watches are today fully prestige items, so why not wear them as such?

The Jubilee is currently offered as an option on the Datejust, the GMT-Master II and the Sky-Dweller, with the latter being your only choice if you want a full-gold Jubilee, as those were introduced by Rolex at Watches and Wonders 2024 . The Datejust and GMT-Master II both offer steel and two-jone Jubilees, depending on the reference.

All three watches — Datejust, GMT-Master II and Sky-Dweller — are also available on an Oyster, making them the only watches where you’ll actually need to decide between the two bracelet styles.

Oyster is the sportier, simpler, everyday option

The Oyster bracelet was introduced in the 1930s (and later patented by Rolex) and its sturdy three-link construction embodies the old-school tool-watch side of Rolex’s personality. On some models, like the Submariner, all three links are totally brushed for a more utilitarian feel. On others, like the GMT-Master II and Daytona , only the bracelet’s outer links are brushed while the center links are polished to add some luxury sparkle.

The Oyster is the more understated option and is most associated with the brand’s sporty “Professional” models. It’s perfect for watches like the Submariner — and is, in fact, the only option for the Sub along with the Explorer, Explorer II, Oyster Perpetual, Air-King, Sea-Dweller and Deepsea.

It can can also imbue something like a dressy Datejust or Sky-Dweller with a pragmatic vibe that’ll make it more versatile and easy to wear for years and in many situations. The Oyster is by far Rolex’s most common bracelet option, and the only models that don’t offer an Oyster are the Day-Date and the 1908 dress watch , which only comes on a leather strap.

The Jubilee is slightly more expensive

More complicated to produce, the Jubilee tends to command a price premium over the Oyster of a couple hundred bucks. (On a steel GMT-Master II, the difference is exactly $200.) A Jubilee bracelet arguably makes a watch look more expensive, too. As long as your spending Rolex money in the first place, though, you should get exactly what you want, and this probably won’t be a deal breaker — but it’s one element of which you should be aware.

Many consider the Jubilee to be especially comfortable

The Oyster is very comfortable, but the Jubilee’s smaller links help it curve more precisely to the wrist, allowing it to better “hug” the wrist. It might be merely anecdotal, but Rolex owners often cite the Jubilee’s exceptional comfort as a primary reason to prefer it over the Oyster.

Don’t forget about the clasp

Different Rolex models come with different bracelets, and they can be fitted with specific clasps. Since there’s no option to pair the bracelet you want with a certain clasp, this is simply an element of Rolex bracelets to be aware of when weighing their pros and cons.

The Jubilee bracelets on the Datejust and Sky-Dweller are only available with an Oysterclasp, the most basic of Rolex’s folding clasps, while the Jubilees on the GMT-Master II comes with an Oysterlock clasp, which is more secure against accidental opening.

Oyster bracelets in Rolex’s “Classic” line — Datejust, Oyster Perpetual and Sky-Dweller — again come with Oysterclasp, while the “Professional” models — Air-King, Explorer, Daytona and GMT-Master II — get an Oysterlock. The aquatic Professional watches — Submariner, Sea-Dweller, Deepsea and Yacht-Master — boast Glidelock clasps on their Oyster bracelets, which incorporate an on-the-fly micro-adjustment feature.

Other Rolex bracelet styles

In addition to the Oyster and Jubilee, Rolex makes two other bracelet styles: the President, which is a rounded three-link bracelet only available with the Day-Date (and hence only available in precious metal).

Then there’s the Oysterflex, a black rubber strap with a titanium-nickel core that’s available on certain precious-metal references of the Daytona, Yacht-Master and Sky-Dweller. The Sky-Dweller offers the most bracelet options of any Rolex model and is the brand’s only watch to offer the choice of an Oyster, Jubilee or Oysterflex.

A Comprehensive Guide to Every Rolex Bracelet Ever Made

Fran

Rolex offers an array of iconic watch models that everyone — even non-enthusiasts — recognises. Case in point: ask someone if he knows about Rolex Submariner or simply bring up “Paul Newman watch”, and you’ll surely get a reaction. Watch models often get the spotlight, don’t they?

It’s not so surprising given that the whole package is, after all, what we’re in for. However, Rolex further upped the game by naming its bracelets! Every Rolex bracelet that ever rolled out carries a name and legacy, popular to many collectors and enthusiasts in more ways than one. The thing is, Rolex never runs out of ways to add flair to its selection of already reliable watches. Every watch — be it a dress watch or a tool watch — has a unique offering. They’re specialised watches for distinctive functions.

From the explorers of the deepest seas to the conquerors of the darkest caves, there’s a Rolex watch for everyone. (In case you’re curious, we suggest you take a look at the Rolex Submariner and the Rolex Explorer II .) To further the selection’s diversity, Rolex introduced various bracelets that changed the way straps are treated at all in the industry.

Importance of Watch Bracelets

Watch bracelets hold more importance than one would think. Of course, the main star of each timepiece is the movement — the vibrations, accuracy, complications. There’s no denying that! However, watches wouldn’t be what they are today without the convenience of bracelets.

A person’s comfort always comes first. Bracelets must not be too tight, too heavy, or too wiggly. That’s why an excellent bracelet matter so much in a watch. A timepiece can only fulfil its duty if it’s securely and comfortably attached to your wrist.

Bracelets also help in asserting a watch’s function. It only makes sense that dive watches have rubber straps. The same goes for other tool watches that require rigid and rugged bracelets that could last expeditions. You wouldn’t want to be stopped in the middle of a dive because of a little scratch on your gold bracelet, would you?

Watches, at the end of the day, are still accessories. While they’re more functional, fashionability doesn’t hurt when it comes to timepieces. That’s why watch companies, like Rolex, take great care and consideration when it comes to straps and bracelets. True enough, Rolex bracelets don’t only represent the brand’s craftsmanship but also show how they can cater to various styles.

So, what sets each Rolex bracelet apart? Read on to find out.

Every Rolex Bracelet Ever Made

Rolex bracelets have evolved just as well as the brand’s watches did. Rolex holds great pride in its bracelets just as much as well — from Jubilee to President and Oyster. You’ll also learn more about the Pearlmaster, the Integrated bracelets, and of course, the Oysterflex. What do these bracelets have in common and which watches do they come with?

1. Rolex Jubilee Bracelet

The Jubilee is a classic bracelet that any watch enthusiast knows about. It’s not only a popular Rolex choice but also something that even other brands use. First seen in 1945, the Jubilee bracelet made its debut alongside the Rolex Datejust . The new timepiece and bracelet marked the 40th anniversary of the brand. Today, we know the Datejust as the world’s first chronometer wristwatch with a date window featured on the dial. You can guess where the bracelet’s name came from.

Aside from this, the Jubilee also became Rolex’s first in-house bracelet and therefore jumpstarted the brand’s overall in-house production of bracelets. While most brands source bracelets from bracelet manufacturers or suppliers, Rolex upped the game by making their own. However, the company outsourced some parts of the overall composition from specialists, even to this day. We can find Jubilee bracelets made in countries such as Mexico or the USA. They usually come with oval-shaped links.

The bracelet appears with a five-link piece design with three rows of small centre links and two rows of larger links on either side. The bracelet looks grand that it fits the dressier timepieces such as the Rolex Datejust. If you compare the first Jubilee to the modern-day iteration of the bracelet, you wouldn’t find much of a difference. Some of the most notable improvements made throughout its existence include the oval link, folded links, solid links, and D-shaped links.

It launched in solid gold but today, it comes with various material or metal options and even sizes. Aside from steel, the bracelet is also available in rose gold and steel, yellow gold and steel, rose gold, platinum, yellow gold, as well as white gold. You can find Rolex Datejust watches or the Rolex GMT Master  attached to a Jubilee bracelet.

2. Rolex President Bracelet

Rolex continued to produce dress watches that collectors and enthusiasts vie for. After the success of the Datejust, it was only timely to release the Rolex Day-Date in 1956. The Day-Date proved itself iconic for its design. The watch is the first automatic watch to have a date window and a day window spelt out on the dial. It easily became Rolex’s new flagship watch that immediately met with great success. The watch screamed opulence from every angle: the precious metals and of course the new bracelet that came with it — the Rolex President bracelet.

The President bracelet can be seen as a three-piece link metal bracelet with its links shaped in a circular manner. The centre links look wider with two thinner rows on each side. It can only be seen on the Day-Date watches of today as well as on the Rolex Lady-Datejust and mid-size Datejust timepieces. You can find a President Rolex bracelet in yellow gold, rose gold, white gold, as well as platinum.

3. Rolex Oyster Bracelet

The Rolex Oyster Bracelet has been Rolex’s pride since the 1930s and to this day proves to be the most popular bracelet from the brand. It’s impossible not to associate the Oyster to Rolex as the brand patented the design as early as 1947. A year later, in 1948, the bracelet made its official Rolex launch. However, its beginnings — as mentioned — didn’t all start at Rolex’s home base. In fact, it began with Rolex’s bracelet manufacturer Gay Frères.

Up until 1998, Gay Frères manufactured bracelets for Rolex. Then, Rolex bought the company to take full control of its manufacture from movement to bracelets. Upon its launch, the Oyster wasn’t as popular as expected. Even Rolex knows that it’s not as grand as the other bracelets in its catalogue.

The modern-day Oyster bracelet looks pretty different from its predecessor. Arguably, it now looks more polished and grander than ever. The bracelet is a three-piece link metal bracelet with a wider row of centre links with two rows of thinner links on each side. It’s not circular in shape like the Presidential bracelet. It, in fact, has always been flat. The evolutions didn’t change that.

The Rolex Oyster bracelet can be seen in most Rolex sports watches including the Rolex Oyster Perpetual collection. Aside from this, other tool watches used the Oyster as the bracelet. However, as time and evolution required it, the Oyster bracelet began donning the watch heads of the Datejust, Day-Date as well as the Rolex Sky-Dweller timepieces. Every Rolex clasp you can think of fits the bracelet, that’s why a lot of people find it easy to use — Oysterclasp, Oysterlock, and even Crownclasp. Not to mention, the Easylink comfort extension makes it easier to use even with a wet suit on. To further the bracelet’s flexibility, even various clasp versions, are made available for use on the Oyster bracelet.

It’s available in steel, various gold, as well as two-tone steel and gold combinations and even platinum.

4. Rolex Pearlmaster Bracelet

The Rolex Pearlmaster watch was launched in 1992 and together with it, the Pearlmaster bracelet was introduced as well. It’s a five-piece link metal bracelet that is slightly rounded despite being described as flat. Two slimmer links sandwich the larger centre links.

The beautiful thing about the Rolex Pearlmaster bracelet is the usual diamonds or gemstones set on platinum or gold. It can be seen, as aforementioned, on the Pearlmaster watch but some Day-Date Masterpiece also dons the bracelet. That’s why most people refer to this bracelet as the Masterpiece bracelet.

5. Rolex Oysterflex Bracelet

Everyone paid attention as the brand rolled out the new Rolex Yacht-Master watch in Everose gold at the Baselworld back in 2015. Aside from the stunning proprietary pink gold alloy’s launch, Rolex also introduced with it a new bracelet that we know today as the Oysterflex.

It may look like your usual rubber strap but the Oysterflex is a complex bracelet in itself. Firstly, it has titanium as well as nickel alloy metal blade in its core. Wrapped around that is the black elastomer. This makes the bracelet just as light and comfortable as a rubber strap but with more airflow as well as durability and stability.

The Oysterflex comes in six different lengths — categorised from C to H — and two different widths. Right now, you’ll be able to pair your Rolex Oysterflex with the gold versions of the Yacht-Master and the Rolex Daytona .

Oysterflex Bracelet Codes

  • 350501: 18 mm in width as seen on Yacht-Master 37

Final Thoughts

Rolex bracelets are part of the brand’s legacy. They’re one of the reasons why fans and enthusiasts adore the brand. They’re comfortable and provide just as much elegance as the watch heads. It’s also important to know the codes on each watch to help you know whether you’re holding a genuine Rolex in your hand. These little numbers don’t just come randomly with the bracelet. If you’re new to buying pre-loved Rolexes, it’s best to consult a specialist or take a quick look at the list on this page for reference.

Rolex Bracelets: Oyster vs. Jubilee vs. President

An inside view of the Rolex 6238's jubilee bracelet

Despite the wide variety of watches that Rolex offers, only four different styles of bracelets exist. While the Pearlmaster bracelet technically counts as a bracelet option, it is produced in extremely limited numbers, and is exclusively fitted to Rolex’s gem-encrusted, precious metal, Pearlmaster line of watches. All the rest of Rolex’s various timepieces receive an Oyster, Jubilee, or President bracelet; however not all bracelet styles are available for all line of watch, and some bracelets are only craft from certain materials.

Oyster Bracelet

Rolex oyster bracelet

First introduced during the late 1930s, the Oyster bracelet is Rolex’s original in-house bracelet design, and it is the only bracelet style that is available as an option on every single line of Rolex watches. Additionally, it is the only bracelet style that is manufactured in every single metal type/combination; and certain lines of Rolex watches, like the Submariner and Explorer, are only available with an Oyster bracelet.

The Oyster bracelet uses Rolex’s iconic, three-link design, which has remained remarkably visually consistent since its initial introduction. The large, flat structure of its links makes it the most robust style of bracelet that Rolex manufactures, and it is the default option for many of Rolex’s professional lines of watches. Although the Oyster bracelet (like all other Rolex bracelet styles ) has undergone a number of updates and improvements throughout the years, its overall appearance has remained largely unchanged, and its aesthetic has become one of the defining traits of the Rolex brand.

Jubilee Bracelet

An inside view of the Rolex 6238's jubilee bracelet

Initially released in 1945, the Jubilee bracelet was specifically designed for the Datejust line of watches in celebration of Rolex’s 40th anniversary. When it was first introduced, the Jubilee bracelet was Rolex’s flagship offering, and was only available in solid gold. However, since the President bracelet has become Rolex’s premier bracelet option, the Jubilee is now manufactured in every single metal combination except platinum and white gold.

The Jubilee bracelet uses a five-piece, semi-circular link design that has a more refined and elegant appearance than that of the Oyster bracelet. Much like Rolex’s other bracelet styles, the Jubilee bracelet has undergone a number of updates and refinements throughout the years, as Rolex continuously works to improve the reliability and functionality of their products. In years past, the Jubilee bracelet was fitted to a number of different lines of watches in the Rolex catalogue; however it is now only offered as an option on the Datejust and GMT-Master II lines of watches.

Rolex President 18206 Bracelet

Designed specifically for Rolex’s Day-Date line of watches, the President bracelet has only ever been crafted from solid 18k gold or platinum since its initial introduction in 1956. As Rolex’s flagship bracelet offering, the President bracelet is only offered as an option on the Day-Date line of watches and precious metal versions of the lady Datejust.

The overall appearance of the President bracelet is somewhat of a mix between an Oyster bracelet and a Jubilee bracelet.  Its three-piece, semi-circular link design provides it with a more elegant look and feel than the Oyster bracelet; however, the single, rounded center link gives it a less delicate appearance than the Jubilee bracelet, which uses three smaller links in the center. Contemporary President bracelets use ceramic inserts inside the links for enhanced durability and are always fitted with Rolex’s Crownclasp, a concealed clasp design that creates a seamless effect throughout the band.

Rolex GMT-Master II with Jubilee Bracelets

Rolex GMT-Master II Pepsi ref 126710 BLRO (2018)

The Rolex GMT-Master II Pepsi ref 126710 BLRO , introduced in 2018, stands as a testament to both the brand’s heritage and its unwavering commitment to innovation. This reference pays homage to the legendary blue and red bezel configuration, affectionately known as “Pepsi,” which has become synonymous with the GMT-Master collection. This reiteration, however, marked a significant milestone, as it heralded the return of the beloved Jubilee bracelet to the GMT-Master II lineup after an extended hiatus.

In deciphering the reference’s nomenclature, the last four letters, “BLRO,” provide intriguing insights. “BL” refers to the blue of the iconic ceramic bezel, while “RO” is a nod to the red; bleu/rouge. This amalgamation of letters mirrors the watch’s essence — a striking blend of vibrant aesthetics and robust craftsmanship.

Embarking on a journey through time, the last four letters of the reference, “BLNR,” unlock the watch’s secrets. “BL” signifies the blue hues of the Cerachrom bezel, while “NR” is for the black or noir in French.

Exploring its origins, the last four letters of the reference, “VTNR,” provide a window into its identity. “VT” signifies the vivid green hues of the bezel (verte in French), while “NR” indicates the black or Noir in French.

Rolex GMT Master II Sprite Bezel Oystersteel 126720

The GMT-Master II Sprite 126720 VTNR inaugurates a fresh color scheme into the collection, contributing to its appeal. The bi-directional rotating bezel, crafted from Rolex’s patented Cerachrom material, showcases the dynamic interplay of black and green tones, defying fading and wear. Beyond its aesthetic prowess, the Cerachrom bezel serves as a functional tool for tracking time zones. This distinctively vintage watch stands out only due to the relocation of the crown to the left-hand side of the 40mm case. This switch-over of the standard right side winding crown makes the model perfect for left-handed wearers.

Powering the Sprite reference is the caliber 3285 movement, a testament to Rolex’s dedication to precision and innovation. Boasting a Superlative Chronometer certification, the movement is equipped with Rolex’s innovative Chronergy escapement, enhancing efficiency and extending the power reserve to approximately 70 hours.

The GMT-Master II Sprite 126720 VTNR embodies a harmonious blend of artistic expression and technical prowess, designed for those who seek not only a reliable companion for global travels but also a bold statement of personal style. This reference’s distinctive color combination and advanced features make it a cherished addition to the GMT-Master II family, appealing to enthusiasts who appreciate both tradition and innovation in their timepieces.

Rolex GMT-Master II Yellow Gold ref 126718 GRNR (2023) & Steel Yellow Gold ref 126713 GRNR (2023)

In 2023, Rolex unveiled two exceptional additions to the GMT-Master II family: the Yellow Gold ref 126718 GRNR and the Steel Yellow Gold ref 126713 GRNR. These references embody the luxury of yellow gold, coupled with the versatility of steel, creating a harmonious blend of opulence and functionality.

Delving into their chronicles, the last four letters of each reference reveal intriguing facets of their identity. “GRNR” in both references signifies the grey hue of the Cerachrom bezel, while the enduring “NR” stands for noir/black, like the previous timepieces. These references ushered in a new era of elegance within the GMT-Master II collection, combining precious materials with everyday practicality.

On the other hand, the Steel Yellow Gold 126713 GRNR presents a more balanced composition, fusing stainless steel with the opulence of yellow gold. This combination bestows the watch with an air of sophistication suitable for various occasions. The movement caliber 3285 ensures exceptional performance and precision.

Watch Bracelet guide

Reading about watches can often feel like cracking open a textbook. Browsing—and even buying—means being barraged with inscrutable words and phrases like " tourbillons ,” “ perpetual calendars ,” “ minute repeaters ,” and so on. So here, we'll be breaking down the meaning, history, and importance of different watch terms. Welcome to GQ's Watch Glossary .

Paul Altieri, founder and CEO of Bob’s Watches, sold a brand-new Rolex GMT to a customer recently. What a moment, you’d think, and you’d be right: customers are stewing on multi-year waiting lists to get the new Pepsi GMT-Master revealed at Baselworld last March. But this guy, new watch in hand, walked his watch straight across the boutique and handed it over to the service desk. “He couldn't wait to take the Jubilee bracelet off the watch,” Altieri says.

At first blush, the world of watches seems ruled by easy-to-understand concepts: varying popularity of brands, technical excellence, quality materials, maybe an association with so-and-so celebrity . But digging into practically any watch-related subject results in a geyser of information and opinions—like, “I have very specific thoughts on a bracelet.” Bracelets—the word for your watch's strap when it’s made of metal—are a matter of great debate in the watch world. This is GQ’s guide to watch bracelets.

Rolex is unique among watch brands in its use of a variety of different instantly recognizable bracelets: the Oyster, Jubilee, President, and Pearlmaster. “Arguably one of the things that has made Rolex so successful is that you have options with its bracelets,” says Eric Wind, who owns the vintage watch retailer Wind Vintage.

The Oyster is the classic bracelet, first produced in the late 1930s. This is Rolex’s sportiest and most casual option, so it typically comes on the brand’s “professional” watches (pieces built expressly for activities like diving or racing): the Submariner, Daytona, Yacht-Master, Sea-Dweller, Air-King , and Explorer.

Jubilee bracelets are more elegant, with a “five-piece link” design that forms a series of small X-shaped patterns. The bracelet was originally released in 1945, along with the first Datejust watch, and is seen as the dressier alternative to the Oyster. “Oysters are a bracelet that you put on when you're going to go scuba diving or garden or you'll go swimming in it,” says Altiere. “The Jubilee is Rolex's answer to trying to dress it up a little bit.”

The Rolex Day-Date with a President bracelet

The other two Rolex bracelets are used more sparingly. The President, a three-piece link with a rounded bar running across the middle, is made exclusively in precious metals (the high-end golds and platinums of the world), and only Day-Dates are fitted with these bracelets. The Pearlmaster, meanwhile, is the most ostentatious in Rolex’s catalog, and is only used on the brand’s blinged-out pieces. The two parallel alleys running down the bracelet are often filled in with even more diamonds.

A large chunk of Watch Bracelet 101 can be told through the story of Gay Frères, a company that began in 1835 selling pocketwatch chains. Rolex was an early client: a century after Gay Frères was founded, Rolex commissioned it to make those first Oyster bracelets.

Naturally, some of Rolex’s biggest competitors started to sniff around Gay Frères, too. In the ‘40s, Gay Frères started supplying Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin with bracelets as well. The brand is most closely associated with its “beads-of-rice” design, which looks like it sounds. The at-one-point-most-expensive-watch-ever-sold, a Patek Philippe reference 1518 , came on a Gay Frères beads-of-rice bracelet.

Gay Frères is also the bracelet supplier that came up with the iconic designs for two other beloved bracelets: the ones accompanying the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and the Patek Nautilus . The practical bracelets, often made of steel, are the perfect accompaniment to the respective brands’ sportier models.

In 1998, Rolex, surely noticing how in-demand Gay Frères was, bought its longtime bracelet supplier. Rolex has a habit of pulling as much of its production in-house—going so far as to make its own gold in house—but the purchase of Gay Frères stands out. “That is arguably one of their best pieces of vertical integration,” Wind says.

Now, Wind says that some collectors will buy vintage watches just for the bracelet, discarding the case. “I've done it with chronographs from the 1940s and ‘50,” says Wind. “There was a Heuer with a Gay Frères bracelet on it, and the bracelet was worth more than the chronograph.”

Watch bracelet

Wellendorff's bracelet made for A. Lange & Söhne

It’s not just Gay Frères bracelets that are hunted, either. In the late 2000s, the brand A. Lange & Söhne partnered with German jeweler Wellendorff to create some outrageously nice bracelets. But when a new president took over the brand he thought they were ridiculous and discontinued them. Wind says collectors consider these “the best bracelets of all time” and oftentimes will purchase those late-2000s watches for the bracelet alone. According to one jewelery retailer , the original retail price for just the bracelet was €34,500 (just below $40,000). Wind says he’s heard of some of these bracelets—just the bracelet!—selling for $60,000.

You may have noticed that in covering bracelets, practically every one of the most-wanted watches in the world pops up—the GMT, the Daytona, the Royal Oak, the Nautilus. There’s something to that: “People like to wear bracelets. They’re more durable and it's part of the casual movement of culture,” says Wind. “You can wear a bracelet with a suit or with a hoodie.” Sport watches fit easily into most watch collectors’ day-to-day lives in a way more formal-looking ones don’t. “People don't feel they can wear this yellow-gold Patek dress watch with the black alligator strap with a hoodie,” Wind adds. “It doesn't work quite the same way.”

That’s a good explanation for why, out of all of Patek’s beautiful pieces, the Nautilus is the one worn by every celebrity, the one with the eight-year waitlist. Even Patek’s president Thierry Stern told the New York Times he’s dumbfounded by its popularity. “Why is the Nautilus so popular?” he said. “Of course I am happy about it, but honestly I don’t know the answer.” Maybe it’s all about the bracelet.

WGS 84 coordinate reference system is the latest revision of the World Geodetic System, which is used in mapping and navigation, including GPS satellite navigation system (the Global Positioning System).

Geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) define a position on the Earth’s surface. Coordinates are angular units. The canonical form of latitude and longitude representation uses degrees (°), minutes (′), and seconds (″). GPS systems widely use coordinates in degrees and decimal minutes, or in decimal degrees.

Latitude varies from −90° to 90°. The latitude of the Equator is 0°; the latitude of the South Pole is −90°; the latitude of the North Pole is 90°. Positive latitude values correspond to the geographic locations north of the Equator (abbrev. N). Negative latitude values correspond to the geographic locations south of the Equator (abbrev. S).

Longitude is counted from the prime meridian ( IERS Reference Meridian for WGS 84) and varies from −180° to 180°. Positive longitude values correspond to the geographic locations east of the prime meridian (abbrev. E). Negative longitude values correspond to the geographic locations west of the prime meridian (abbrev. W).

UTM or Universal Transverse Mercator coordinate system divides the Earth’s surface into 60 longitudinal zones. The coordinates of a location within each zone are defined as a planar coordinate pair related to the intersection of the equator and the zone’s central meridian, and measured in meters.

Elevation above sea level is a measure of a geographic location’s height. We are using the global digital elevation model GTOPO30 .

The Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II in 18 kt yellow gold with a black dial and a Jubilee bracelet.

24-hour rotatable bezel, innovative high-technology.

This model features a black dial and a two-colour Cerachrom bezel insert in grey and black ceramic. In addition to conventional hour, minute and seconds hands, the GMT-Master II features an arrow-tipped hand, which circles the dial once every 24 hours, as well as a bidirectional rotatable 24-hour graduated bezel.

The distinctively coloured 24-hour hand displays the “home” reference time in a first time zone which can be read on the graduations on the bezel. The traveller’s local time is easily set by “jumping” from hour to hour, thanks to an ingenious mechanism operated via the winding crown: the hour hand can be adjusted forwards or backwards independently of the minute and seconds hands. This allows travellers to adapt to their new time zone without affecting the precision of their timekeeping.

High legibility in all circumstances

Like all Rolex Professional watches, the GMT-Master II offers exceptional legibility in all circumstances, and especially in the dark, thanks to its Chromalight display.

The broad hands and hour markers in simple shapes – triangles, circles, rectangles – are filled with a luminescent material emitting a long-lasting glow.

Commitment to excellence

By operating its own exclusive foundry, Rolex has the unrivalled ability to cast the highest quality 18 kt gold alloys. According to the proportion of silver, copper, platinum or palladium added, different types of 18 kt gold are obtained: yellow, pink or white.

They are made with only the purest metals and meticulously inspected in an in-house laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment, before the gold is formed and shaped with the same painstaking attention to quality. Rolex's commitment to excellence begins at the source.

The Jubilee bracelet

Supple and comfortable.

This version of the GMT-Master II is fitted with a Jubilee bracelet. Supple and comfortable, the five-piece link Jubilee bracelet was specially created for the launch of the Oyster Perpetual Datejust model in 1945.

The Jubilee bracelet on this model is equipped with a Rolex-designed, patented Oysterlock folding safety clasp, which prevents accidental opening. It also features the Easylink comfort extension link, developed by the brand, which allows the bracelet length to be increased by approximately 5 mm. A concealed attachment system ensures seamless visual continuity between the bracelet and case.

  3. Does it look good? (Yacht Master + Jubilee Bracelet) : r/rolex

The esthetics of this makes so much more sense than the oyster steel bracelet. I prefer the oyster on the BLNR. I love the Pepsi GMT with the jubilee. I think this is a good possibility. It goes so well with the bezel fluting. As any AD will tell you the fluted bezel on the date just is a better sale than a smooth bezel with a jubilee.
