Well I see we have United Yacht Transport lashed to our deck! Welcome aboard! Here is a look, via drone, at their process of loading yachts onboard their vessels.

Warning for transport company "United Yacht Transport" We purchased a boat in Italy in January 2016. We contracted with United Yacht Transport (UYT) to ship the boat from Genoa, Italy to Ensenada, Mexico, with a stop and ship change in St. Thomas, USVI. We dealt with their Vice President, Vadim Yegudkin. Our loading date in Genoa was delayed, but otherwise the first leg of the transport and offloading went smoothly. The boat was offloaded in St. Thomas in December, 2016. Our contract stated that our second leg was to load between March and June, 2017. Because of our concerns about hurricane season, we had many discussions with Vadim about the availability of a ship for the second leg and we were assured that it was on their normal monthly schedule, and that there would be “no problem”. We stayed in contact with Vadim during our time in St. Thomas and let him know that the boat was packed up and ready to go in April. We were told that we would be on the May ship. Throughout May, we kept being told that the ship was delayed. Eventually we were told that there would be no May ship and that we would go on the June ship. Same thing happened in June. No ship. We were told July for sure. In July, again we were told that there would not be a ship, maybe August? It was now hurricane season. We had to have the boat hauled out of the water and stored on land until November (and our insurance costs rose). Of course we were hit directly by two Cat 5 hurricanes and the boat had $100,000 of damage. They did not have a November ship to Ensenada, or December, or January, or February. Finally, February, 2018 they offered to ship our boat to Florida first and then ship it to Ensenada. BUT WE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR AN ADDITIONAL $21,000 TO SHIP THE BOAT TO FLORIDA!!! After all the extra costs that we have suffered due to their lack of performance! Vadim had already offered to pay for our storage costs in St Thomas because of their delay (Of course they never paid anything). We declined to pay the additional $21,000 (who knows if they would have performed on the last trip to Ensenada) and contracted with another company (for $15,000) to deliver the boat to Florida, then paid to have the boat trucked to California. Their response to us was aggression and “sue us”. They are not honest businesspeople and did not make good on their contract to deliver the boat. STAY AWAY!!!

Well, they were a successor company to Yacht Path which left a trail of disaster and deceit. They claimed to be totally different but kept a principal of YP around quite a while. However, since then I haven't heard such as you encountered but I've often heard stories of delay and lack of available ships. Personally, I'd never select them as I'd pay the difference and to with Seven Star or their subsidiary DYT. Their dates are not ironclad but their delays are reasonable. That does bring me back to a question for you. Why did you choose United? I suspect because of price.

Well, maybe next time you won't select based on price but will look at reputation and dependability. Perhaps a little due diligence in St. Thomas to confirm with locals that the ships are monthly and dependable. Don't bet on no problem going through Florida with them. Perhaps less but people still have problems. When you select based solely on price, you're looking for trouble. Did you ask United whose ships they intended to use and if they had those all scheduled? Seven Star is part of a company with 125 vessels of their own. Now, I'm sure in their mind they will argue that they did make good on the contract and point out all the outs their contract gives them. That's why they can be bold and tell you to sue because while they may have violated what you thought was agreed, the contract likely makes it clear they're not responsible. They would say you paid for and got transport to St. Thomas and that fulfilled their obligation.

One would query why a company would go into that business dealing with very expensive items and knowing that they are not really efficient and giving good value for money, surely some form of capital base is required and to risk that through poor performance would seem a counterproductive operation, perhaps the day of the quick return and then to bankruptcy is still with us and the population is captured by the "bargain" regardless of the possible risk.

DYT, formerly known as DOCKWISE YACHT TRANSPORT was founded in 1987. The first sailing was under the name of Wijsmuller, a shipping company that specialized in heavy, off shore bulk transport and tugboats. During the oil crisis of the 80’s, Wijsmuller was forced to find innovative new markets for a strong decline in bulk transport. Modern yacht transport as we know it was discovered.
In 1987 the first yacht carrier, Super Servant 6 was launched. With a few technical adjustments this submersible yacht carrier was equipped with side walls made with railway sleepers. These walls allowed for the necessary protection and safety needed to shelter the yachts during transport. The company, led by Jeff and Gina Last, who with their personal touch and creative approach, developed the idea of an on-time transport schedule and took the company to the unique position as the preferred yacht transport provided worldwide.
Today, the foundation for this unique and safe method of shipping dedicated to the transport of yachts can be seen in the modern 658 feet YACHT EXPRESS with her high rising side walls. And after years of preparations, in January 2022, DYT announced the delivery of the purpose-built semi-submersible vessel, YACHT SERVANT. The Yacht Servant boasts an impressive 6,300 square meters of deck space, and measures 214.17 meters (702,66 feet) in length and 46 meters across the beam, with a draft of 4.6 meters. Additionally, it has a specialized deck located behind the bridge, specifically designed to accommodate tenders, containers, and small race boats.
DYT Yacht Transport’s mission is to serve the global yachting community with safe, reliable, and on-time Superyacht transport to the most sought after destinations in the world. True to our beginnings in 1987, whether it’s the South of France or the hottest sport fishing destinations in the Pacific, DYT is looking to broaden the horizon of yacht transport.

Triton Networking with United Yacht Transport
Join us for Triton Networking on the third Wednesday in June in Fort Lauderdale with United Yacht Transport. All captains, crew and industry professionals are welcome to join us from 6-8 p.m. on June 21 — the first day of summer — to catch up with friends and make some new ones.
Until then, learn a little more about UYT from its VP Vadim Yegudkin.
Tell us about United Yacht Transport. What do you do?
UYT VP Vadim Yegudkin
United Yacht Transport started in 2012 and has a combined 30 years in yacht transport experience. Paul Haber is president and I am vice president. We specialize in North America and Mediterranean. Our routes touch Fort Lauderdale, Panama, Costa Rica, Mexico, British Columbia, Singapore, Hong Kong, St. Thomas (USVI), Spain, Italy and Greece, however there are more, based on demand.
Some transport companies charter ships, others have their own ships. How does UYT work?
We charter full ships. This method allows for much more frequent sailing as we are not limited to any number of ships or crane size. The ability to charter any ship anywhere in the world gives our customers a much more reliable and regular sailing schedule.
There are several companies that provide this sort of service. What makes you different?
United is a carrier with its own cradling equipment and lifting gear, and the highest safety rating in the industry. Our loadmasters are the top in the world. We also provide the best insurance policy in the business.
You had an interesting loading last month in Fort Lauderdale. Tell us about it.
We loaded several large yachts on the M/V Industrial Guide, including the loading of the 151-foot Leopard under deck. This is an example of our ability to charter full ships. This is important, because this means that the only cargo on the ship is yachts. It also gives us full control of the ship and stow plan. Our operations team is then able to fill the belly of the ship with yachts as tall as 40 feet and put taller yachts and sailboats on deck. Bigger loads means lower costs, and we always pass along these savings to the customers. Economy of scales.
The biggest yacht we loaded on the Industrial Guide was the 174-foot, 650-ton expedition yacht M/Y Ulucitcan. This was verified as the heaviest yacht to be lifted by any company in over five years. Great job by our top notch loading team.
All in all, the Industrial Guide will take over $250 million and 4,000 square meters of yachts to the Med.
What advice do you give captains and crew before they deliver their yacht to UYT?
Follow our preparation guide, which is available on our new website launching this month, and check your emails every day for the latest updates on loading and discharge times.
Are delivery schedules established or do they fluctuate from year to year?
This is a good question. There are sailings based on season, boat shows and some that are based on demand. For example, there are always sailings from the Med and West Coast in time for the Fort Lauderdale boat show the fall. There are always seasonal sailings to the Pacific Northwest and Mediterranean in March, April and May, and return voyages in September, October and November.
I always suggest to the captain or whomever deals with the transport (sometimes the chief engineer) to call me in advance and secure the space as soon as the owners have made their decision.
Triton Networking always brings the best crowds, and we are looking forward to seeing all our friends and meeting new people.
We will gather at The Triton office at 1043 SE 17th St. (33316).
