La Pinta: Rooms were very spacious (for a boat) and the food was exceeded expectations. Loved the variety, and fresh fruit. Rooms were cleaned/turned down quite regularly, which was nice.
Both Napo and La Pinta were exceptional venues.

La Pinta Galapagos Itineraries

La pinta galapagos review, review of la pinta galapagos.

The 1982-built La Pinta yacht is a year-round Galapagos -based expedition cruise ship owned by the Ecuador-based company Metropolitan Touring Galapagos. This luxury boat exceeds all basic travel requirements to introduce well-off, pretense-free travelers to the region's unique sceneries and wildlife.

The vessel (IMO number 8112897) is currently Ecuador- flagged (MMSI 735058068) and registered in Guayaquil .

Since 2022, La Pinta is seasonally chartered by UnCruise Adventures .

Shipboard facilities and amenities

The luxurious yacht La Pinta was built as a Bahamas-based casino ship. In 2008, the vessel was completely drydock rebuilt and transformed into a modern expedition ship. Some of the onboard amenities include outdoor shower heads, public-use dryer, goodie basket of Dramamine, snorkel gear (wet suit, snorkel, mask, fin), sea kayaks, glass-bottom boat, briefing room with audio-video equipment as well as a crane delivering a trio of pangas to sea (inflatable water taxis which shuttle passengers to uninhabited islets).

La Pinta Galapagos cruise ship

Touches like Wi-Fi, a glass-bottom boat and in-cabin showers, are welcome inclusions. After a long day trekking under the equatorial sun or peeking under the Pacific, guests can chat in the top-ship hot tub or have fun before dinner in the lounge as they swap pictures and stories.

The overall experience on La Pinta Galapagos cruise tours is almost military-like and highly structured. In an effort to maximize time spent on land, scheduling is precise. If guests participate in every activity, they have to expect 2 hours of downtime tops and to be charmed but a little bit exhausted by debarkation day. A good idea is to have something more casual post-cruise (a beach stay, for example), as a counterpoint to hyper-scheduled pace and to spend time in a place which starts to feel like a dream the moment of returning to civilization.

La Pinta has a total of 24 staterooms , of which 20x are Double Outside (sized 180 ft2 / 17 m2) and 2x are Triple Outside (sized 235 ft2 / 22 m2).

The boat has 5 decks , of which 3 are passenger-accessible and 2 with cabins.

Signature facilities are located on Deck 2 (Restaurant, Lobby/Reception, Shop, Infirmary/Doctor's Office), and Deck 4 (Observation Bar Lounge, Library, Gym, Sundeck) while Deck 3 houses most of the cabins.

The Dining Room Restaurant has a seating capacity to accommodate all passengers at once. All but 1 or 2 meals are served in the indoor dining room. Breakfast is buffet-style and begins at 7:30 am. A cooked-to-order omelet station is a daily offer. Lunch options include light salads, a few hot dishes, and obligatory soup. The diner starts at 7:30 pm and is the lone offering that is not served buffet-style. The 4-course dinners feature an appetizer, soup, a choice of entree and desserts.

The Boutique sells a selection of necessities.

The Observation Lounge & Bar also serves as a Lecture Room/briefing room. It features 270-degree panoramic windows, as well as one of two TVs onboard the ship (while the other is in the lobby).

The Natural History Library has two computer terminals and a coffee machine, alongside a few containers with a rotating lineup of cookies, crackers and tea biscuits.

The Exercise Room has Lifestyle-brand equipment (exercise bike, treadmill, elliptical machines), along with several assorted free weights/dumbbells.

The aft Sundeck area has a Jacuzzi (whirlpool hot tub accommodating 6 passengers), sunbathing area (with padded loungers) and shaded seating (4-seat tables, garden sofas). The Sun Deck is served by the Outside Sky Bar.

Galapagos, An Adventure for the Senses

This Travel Journal submitted by Cameron Young details her Galapagos small ship cruise with AdventureSmith Explorations, on La Pinta Galapagos Cruise . Read more about Cameron’s time aboard La Pinta and the 7-day itinerary .

Baby frigate bird in the Galapagos.

Day 1

My husband and I were so fortunate to find AdventureSmith and partake in their world class voyage on the 40 passenger boat La Pinta, with a Western Galapagos itinerary for 8 days.  Although this cruise was a “splurge” for us, we cannot imagine it any other way.  The crew was incredibly friendly and helpful, the food, phenomenal, and the naturalists first rate.  Everyone spoke English and often multiple languages.  They were exceedingly patient with our Spanish!

Before we had time to catch our breath, we noticed pelicans fishing, iguanas warming themselves in the sun, and sea lions playing in the surf.

We began our adventure by flying into Baltra airport where we met with our group and were immediately impressed with the warmth, humor and organizational skills of the crew.  We were all transferred out to the dock where we sat briefly and took in our first fresh air glimpses of the Galapagos!  A dream come true! Before we had time to catch our breath, we noticed pelicans fishing, iguanas warming themselves in the sun, and sea lions playing in the surf.  We soon loaded onto pangas (large, inflatable boats we call zodiacs in Alaska) and headed out to meet La Pinta, a gorgeous boat with comfortable cabins.  The safety speech, a bite to eat and we were underway with full confidence that we were in excellent hands for the week.

Blue footed booby bird on rocks in the Galapagos.

Our first excursion was to North Seymour Island in the late afternoon.  Beautiful weather, light breeze, gorgeous light and birds and iguanas everywhere! We had to watch where we stepped, so we wouldn’t accidentally harm a nesting bird or snoozing iguana.  Living in Alaska, we are used to animals being somewhat elusive and tourists are fortunate to see wildlife.  It’s important to be quiet and not startle animals, who will quickly retreat into the forest or water to hide.  To our amazement, the blue footed boobies, frigate birds, iguanas, and sea lions simply stayed put and stared back at us.  Even nesting mamas did not hide their babies or flee from nests as we walked by. These are birds and animals without predators.  Such confidence in the world!  It was difficult to keep up with the naturalist leading my small group as every time I took a step there was another photo to take. Fluffy babies covered in down peering out from nests, soaring frigate birds with undulating puffed out ruby throats, indicating readiness to mate, and of course, those blue, blue webbed feet of the boobies! Bring extra Scan discs and batteries for your camera.  You will take hundreds more photos than you ever imagined you would!

Red and black finch bird in the Galapagos.

Back on board La Pinta, we had time to freshen up and have a drink with new-found friends, before heading to dinner.  Wonderful cuisine, several choices of entrees, fresh vegetables, friendly and prompt service from attentive wait staff.  It was the first of many delightful meals.  Afterwards, we attended an informative chat by one of our naturalists, along with the presentation of our itinerary for the following day.

We traveled overnight north and around the top of Isabela Island, waking to find ourselves in a cove just below the “snout” of the seahorse that Isabella is shaped like.  As we sipped morning coffee on deck, we watched sea turtles swimming around the cove, lifting their heads periodically to look about and take a breath.  Breathtaking indeed!

After breakfast, we were outfitted with wetsuits for snorkeling and headed back onto the pangas for a ride to the cove.  Swimming with sea turtles, white-finned sharks, and brilliantly colored fish of all shapes and sizes.  My husband and I kept track of each other by holding hands, snorkel-floating along the shoreline, and excitedly pointing out fish and other marine life to each other.  A diving cormorant topped off our gleeful time in the water.

The afternoon was spent on Fernandina Island, one of the youngest of the Galapagos Islands and home to the marine adapted iguana, which is equally at home on land and swimming in the water.  A swimming dragon! They laid about in piles, dozens of these prehistoric creatures, warming themselves on the rocks and staring back at us, basking in the glory of the transient papparazzi we, as tourists, presented to them.  Oh, and sea lions, playing in surf, nursing babies, calling to each other in their special sea lion burp-like vocalizations. Playful, curious, protective and full of personality, they are always fun to watch and I find myself smiling after each encounter.

Sea lion swimming underwater in the Galapagos.

Dinner is filled with excited conversation about what we each saw and enjoyed during our day. The naturalist’s talk is the finale to each day.  The next day’s itinerary is outlined for us and there is an opportunity to ask questions, get to know our crew and naturalists, read, chat with other passengers, or catch up on our journaling.

We awake in Urbina Bay and head for Tagus Cove on Isabela Island for more snorkeling.  The sea turtles were extraordinary!  Even they appeared non-plussed by our presence and they continued to glide and feed on green algae as we snorkeled around them in amazement.  On land there were yellow iguanas!  Yellow!  I had no idea iguanas came in yellow.  And they’re beautifully juxtaposed against black sand volcanic beaches. How kind of Mother Nature to provide such a glorious contrast for the photographers in the group! We are starting to gain a sense of the biodiversity and uniqueness of each island. You can read about it, but until you actually see the differences from day to day, one cannot imagine the prehistoric, volcanic, time warp this place provides its visitors.

Up close golden iguana in the Galapagos.

In the afternoon, a hike up a collapsed caldera with Darwin Lake where we could see the other side of the island and ancient lava flows. Parts of Isabela have been uplifted 5 meters during a sudden event that happened in the 1950’s.  Good to stretch our legs on this hike and the vantage point of seeing much of the island and the changes in biodiversity as we hiked from sea level were stunning.

The Galapagos has caused me to want to leap out of bed with a life-force of excitement to see and do and learn and swim…

I’m a fairly even-keeled personality who rises each day thinking positive thoughts but the Galapagos has caused me to want to leap out of bed with a life-force of excitement to see and do and learn and swim and laugh and listen and touch.  Every moment seems to bring out the best in me. The animals, birds, fish, geology, history, kindness and knowledge of others.  I fall into bed with a deep contented sleep every night, helped by the gentle vibration of the engine and the sway of a boat on the ocean.

This morning I awoke to our ship underway, cruising along the east coast of Isabela Island heading to Rabida Island.  It’s as if we’ve travelled from one planet to another, this island has red sand beaches and although I’ve been focused on what’s happening above sea level, I’m suddenly struck by what’s happened below the ocean.  How is it possible in a few short miles that the terrain could change from black lava to red sand? Our naturalists are patient with all of our questions and answer each with enthusiasm.  All four are kind and endlessly passionate about the Galapagos Islands and sharing it with others.  They are all Ecuadorian, in line with park regulations, and it adds an authenticity rarely found in our world travels.  This is home for them and they treat guests with the graciousness of a host sharing his or her most treasured possession.

In the afternoon we find penguins!  Some of the smallest in the world, second only to the blue penguins of New Zealand.  We saw penguins, “fly” underwater, went nose to nose with a curious, playful sea lion, and saw more brightly colored fish, swimming in our own tropical aquarium.  On land, a vermilion flycatcher captured our attention and admiration as we learned more about the geology of the area.

Day 5

An excursion into city life in Santa Cruz, the largest town in the Galapagos. Our morning was spent exploring the town, purchasing a few souvenirs for family, and observing a wild fish market where the pelicans and sea lions come so close the merchants have to shoo them away every few minutes.  They could reach out and swat them on the nose if they wanted to!

In the afternoon, a highlight visit to the Charles Darwin Research Station where we learn about the giant tortoise incubation center.  Here scientists are doing research on all aspects of flora and fauna in the Galapagos, although certainly, the giant tortoise are the rock stars.  We hear about Lonesome George, who was the last of his species and the efforts to find a mate for him.  Although he died never having successfully bred, scientists are finding tortoises from other islands who have up to 50% of the same DNA as George.  Efforts are underway to try to breed these turtles to recreate George’s species!  Biology in action is astounding!

Two laughing people on the ground wearing large tortoise shells.

We take a bus through town and out to a farm where giant turtles roam.   We roamed around with them as in a sedate Jurassic Park.  They’re huge!  The way they move, those gigantic shells, prehistoric feet and curious blue eyes.  You cannot stop watching them because you’ve never seen anything like them, nor will you anywhere else.  A thrill we will not forget.

Day 6

Snorkeling at Post Office Bay and a relaxing morning on the beach. There’s a bag of postcards where travelers leave a postcard with their hometown listed on it and try to exchange it for a found postcard from their hometown. We dig through the pile in an attempt to find a card from Juneau, Alaska, our hometown.  Although we didn’t have high hopes, we actually find one with an address about a mile from our home.  A fun travelling coincidence that helps us feel connected to this place, our home, and a shared experience of adventure and the fullness of life.

The evening brings Christmas Eve and a walk in the saltwater estuaries of Floreana Island with evening light, a warm gentle breeze, flamingos, and a sea turtle coming ashore to lay eggs.  A panga ride back to the ship by a crescent moon.  No one is talking; in this moment, we are awestruck.  Our bodies are relaxed, our minds at ease. Content in the moment, it is a time to simply be.

The tenacity of this place! This is why it will touch your soul.

Santa Fe Island and South Plaza Island. Breathe in the air. Take in every detail. This is our final full day of our tour and we are still learning about ecology, still marveling at sea lions and iguanas and birds, still feeling the white sand and turquoise water on our skin.  An afternoon hike along a cliff with iguanas sleeping on top of sea lions, gulls soaring in the thermals, cactus and succulents growing from dry sand and rock, punctuating this tiny, windswept island, a volcanic rock rising from the sea, battered by wind and waves, yet insisting on being alive. The tenacity of this place! This is why it will touch your soul. Years from now you may think you’ve forgotten it, but it lies dormant within you, a gift of phenomenal peace, diversity, and life you can believe in.  You will never be the same.

San Cristobol Island. We walk through the visitor center and learn about the history of people who’ve inhabited these islands.  Oh yeah, people.  I forgot about them, being preoccupied by the animals, fish and birds.  The people who have lived in the Galapagos have a past as colorful as the variety of iguanas.  In the present, I think of the people who have shared in our journey this past week and have been a special part of the trip.  The chefs, purser, boatmen, naturalists, and captain all created a well-conducted symphony of food, safety, hospitality, knowledge and joy to make our Galapagos adventure unforgettable.

La Pinta Galapagos Cruise

La Pinta Galápagos Cruise

Luxury and personal service unmatched in galápagos, a galápagos cruise on board the la pinta.

La Pinta Galapagos Cruise

  • 3:2 guest-to-crew ratio means exemplary service;
  • Glass-bottomed boat, amazing for children, non-swimmers;
  • Larger boat offers more facilities, yet preserves exclusive feel;
  • Complimentary 24/7 medical officer, wifi, fitness centre.

Following a major reconstruction and refit in 2007, motor yacht La Pinta has became one of the most sought-after cruising vessels in the Galápagos. What sets her apart is her size: at over 209 feet long she is able to accommodate some of the largest and most prestigious cabins available in the Galápagos. Service on board is exceptional, with a crew of 27 to attend to your every need including 4 bilingual naturalists and a medical officer. Uniquely, La Pinta carries her own glass-bottomed boat, giving an unforgettable window onto the marine world, particularly for non-swimmers.

A Sophisticated Adventure La Pinta is the perfect luxury base from which to enjoy your Galápagos adventure. Modern in design, with light-filled cabins and communal areas, La Pinta boast features that are simply not available on other vessels in the area. Complimentary satellite wifi is available on board, as are telephones with direct international dialling. Air conditioning is fitted throughout, of course, and additional thoughtful features like multi-channel sound systems for your personal music evidence the careful design of the yacht and its features.

As one of the larger vessels in the region, La Pinta is only ever crewed by top-ranking naval officers with many years of experience in the local waters. The dedicated ship’s medical officer is on call 24/7 to provide complimentary consultations, and La Pinta’s entire crew are dedicated to your safety and enjoyment.

Relax and Learn in Style La Pinta's guests enjoy a large, well-appointed lounge with enormous panoramic windows that give unparalleled views of the Galápagos islands. Similar large windows can be found in many of the communal areas on board. Each evening the lounge becomes the focus for the nightly briefings from our expert naturalists, giving you all the information you could want about the wildlife in this extraordinary region.

There is a well-equipped fitness room which can boast one of the best views from a treadmill or exercise bike you will ever see! Other amenities include a hot tub, ample outdoor relaxation areas and a delightful boutique for a little retail therapy.

More Space for Families or Groups La Pinta’s generous cabins give you room to relax and unwind in your own oasis of calm. Every cabin features amazing floor-to-ceiling windows, keeping you connected with the ocean and the islands as you sail. The decor is fresh and modern, with clean lines and elegant fittings.

For families or groups travelling together, La Pinta offers some of the most flexible accommodation around the islands - 4 of her cabins can be interconnected for your convenience. Her 20 Luxury Double/Twin and 4 Luxury Plus Triple cabins all have beds that can be joined or separated to meet your exact needs.

Service and Cuisine La Pinta’s guest-to-crew ratio of 3:2 means your every need can be catered for. The food service on board is a highlight of your experience. Our cordon bleu trained Gastronomy Director ensures a wonderful menu to suit every taste, with international cuisine as well as Ecuadorian specialities. Our galley team are able to cater for any dietary requirements including vegetarians, lactose-free, gluten-free, and any food allergies. Just let us know in advance.

Our comments We love the sense of space and the extra amenities the size of La Pinta offers. Don’t underestimate the delights of waking up in a cabin with full-height windows and a view of the ocean and the islands. Extra touches like wifi onboard, a dedicated medical officer and the wonderful glass-bottomed boat make La Pinta that little bit more special. The fantastic staff to guest ratio and wonderful cuisine just gild the lily that is La Pinta in our book.

Food & Drinks on board the La Pinta

The food on our Galapágos Cruises is among the very best you will find in South America. Most of the on-board chefs are internationally trained and have prior experience working in the best hotels and restaurants in Ecuador and indeed around the world.

You can expect a first-class selection of food, including a good variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, locally sourced poultry and fish/seafood, rice and pasta dishes. Most boats will always include some typical Ecuadorian dishes on the menu during your cruise. If you have specific dietary requirements then these can usually be accommodated by the chef providing you have given advance notice. Please make sure you tell us about any allergies or dietary requirements you have at the time you book with us. If you leave it until you arrive at the dockside, then it may well be impossible to accommodate your needs.

Most boats serve a range of options at meal times in a relaxed buffet-style. At the first class and luxury end of the market, some boats have more formal dining where you will be served at your seat. However the atmosphere is always relaxed on board our cruises, and never stuffy or formal.

At Galapatours we love and respect the pristine ecosystems and fascinating wildlife of the Galápagos Islands. To protect the archipelago, all vessels in Galápagos must have sophisticated water filtration systems, modern, efficient engines, and strict maintenance schedules to minimize pollution. Furthermore, The Galápagos National Park authority defines exact cruising routes that dictate which ships can visit which highlights at what day and time, as well as limiting passenger numbers.

But at Galapatours we like to go even further: We voluntarily offset all the CO2 emissions of every cruise we sell - at no cost to you. You can also play your part by traveling responsibly and following our Eco Guidelines during your stay. Click here to find out more about these guidelines, our commitment to sustainable tourism, and the Galápagos National Park rules.

La Pinta Galapagos Cruise

We loved this trip! We absolutely LOVED our trip. The crew and staff on the yacht were amazing, knowledgeable, and a lot of fun. The other passengers were equally interesting and made the trip such a great experience for all of us. Thank you for your help in coordinating this trip. We saw EVERYTHING imaginable! Annie and Sean

Wonderful cruise We were very grateful to Thomas for organising our Galapagos cruise on La Pinta at very late notice. We had a super cruise, the boat, food and staff were all excellent. We were very impressed with Galapatours!

Highly recommended. Everything we'd expected and more. We found the ship to be an ideal size 24 rooms each with a large window, 48 passengers and a total of 32 ish crew (including crew members and naturalists). The food was very good, the staff accommodating, the naturalists ranged from passionate to capable. Safety - of the passengers and the wildlife - seemed of the utmost concern to every member of the team. Excursions were many and varied and we recommend you take as many as you are able. Initially, we'd had some reservations about the level of activity that would be required of us. The spirit of adventure captured and transformed us into hiking, snorkeling, kayaking Grandma and Grandpa to no ill effect. There was one daily event that was awkwardly timed: Regrettably, the educational talk given in the bar area at the top of the gently rocking ship came after a physically active morning and a full meal at lunch. Even those eager for the information often lapsed. We did not take our grand-kids - Feedback from: https://goo.gl/6vrDXP

We had the most amazing trip on Yacht La Pinta in February 2017 We had the most amazing trip on Yacht La Pinta in February 2017. To say it was spectacular was an understatement, Galapagos was everything we expected and Yacht La Pinta was absolutely the perfect way to experience it. When we arrived on board the expedition leader told us this was not a cruise but an "expedition" and he was right! To our great pleasure the activities were endless - we kept busy from our 7am wakeup call right through to our 7pm de-briefing every night. We were in the water snorkelling nearly every day, sometimes twice a day! We snorkelled with a wide range of animals, from turtles and sealions to penguins, flightless cormorants, sea iguanas and even hammerhead sharks. The yacht is small, only 24 cabins which is a nice number to get to know your fellow travellers. The food was superb, set menu with options some nights and delicious buffet on other nights. The guides were excellent, friendly passionate and knowledgeable. We booked two consecutive cruises together, 4 day Northern followed directly by the 6 day Western itinerary. A special thanks to Grace for looking after us so well in the transition between cruises. I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Yacht La Pinta and crew for a memorable experience of Galapagos Feedback from: https://goo.gl/dLnpuf

An absolute dream vacation Thank you for the unforgettable experience during the cruise. I have learned and seen so many new things I never expected. This was a dream vacation. I truly appreciate everything you’ve done for us!

Silver Galapagos

\- “Big ship” facilities with great itineraries \- All-inclusive, nothing to pay onboard \- All-suite accommodation \- Dedicated butler service There’s no doubting that a small yacht can have its charm, but when it comes to facilities, features and space you can’t beat a full-size ship. The Silver Galápagos is a luxury 100-passenger expedition vessel that has been fully designed to meet the needs of Galápagos touring. Her owners have made every effort to make her more than just your floating accommodation, but also an integral part of your Galápagos islands experience. **New heights in luxury** Silver Galápagos’ operators have a renowned reputation in the market as being the leading provider of luxury cruises around the world. In Silver Galápagos they continue this “best of the best” tradition, offering their guests one of the most luxurious ways to experience the Galápagos. Silver Galápagos provides stunning all-suite accommodation across her 5 decks. With 75 crew for only 100 passengers, you are assured of the highest levels of attention and service. Indeed, every suite has butler service, and staying onboard is akin to visiting the best 5\* hotels. The sumptuous suites are beautifully decorated with beige, cream and blue accents and an emphasis on light and space. All suites enjoy sea and Galápagos island views through panoramic windows, with Veranda and Silver suites benefitting from glass sliding doors opening on to private balconies. Your suite has independent climate control, plenty of storage space, marbled en suite bathrooms, flat screen televisions, minibar, and unlimited wifi. Top-end suites offer extras including complimentary sparkling wines and personal espresso machines. To put it simply, there is no finer way to enjoy all that the Galápagos has to offer. **Unrivalled space** Thanks to her size at 290 ft long and 50 ft wide there is plenty of space. With only 100 guests onboard it’s always easy to find a quiet corner. With all this space also comes plenty of facilities. As befits a mini cruise liner, Silver Galápagos is equipped with a charming library, a spa offering treatments for men and women, a beauty salon, a fitness center with world-class equipment and stunning sea views, an outdoor jacuzzi, and even a romantic art deco-style piano bar where pre-dinner cocktails are served. Your ticket is fully all-inclusive - so there’s nothing extra to pay for anything on board. When it comes to dining, you have two choices. First is the al fresco Grill. During the evening, hot lava stones are brought to your table for you to cook your own meal exactly how you wish, choosing from a range of authentic local ingredients and produce. By day, the grill becomes an open rotisserie and gourmet salad bar, perfect for lunch. The Silver Restaurant offers a more formal, yet still relaxed experience, with a wide range of international and Ecuadorian specialties on offer. Our favorite is the Galápagos Lobster à la Galapaguera, although a close second has to be the filet mignon with truffles. Both restaurants offer open-seated dining, meaning you can eat whenever you wish, and with whomever you want. This fits perfectly with the Galápagos vibe and makes it a delight to mingle with your like-minded fellow guests. **The Islands - star of the show** Despite the remarkable luxury offered by Galápagos Silver, she still pales in comparison to the wonder of the Galápagos Islands. With a choice of 2 seven-day itineraries and 7 National Park-approved naturalist guides, you will enjoy stunning encounters with unique wildlife and endangered habitats. Excursions include snorkeling (the ship has a dedicated snorkeling deck with all equipment), paddling sea kayaks, taking panga rides, and hikes and tours of a great range of visitor sites. The operators pride themselves not only on the luxury of their ship but also how they showcase the best of the islands to their guests. The itineraries have been carefully designed to give you a fantastic flavor of the islands, and neither is “better” than the other. Call one of our friendly Galápagos experts today to discuss which might suit you better, and we can help you make an informed choice. **Our thoughts** Silver Galápagos is a beautiful ship. With her wonderful all-suite accommodation, we can’t recommend her more highly. Thoughtful touches are everywhere, from having your own butler to the open-seat dining arrangements to the wonderful spa treatments and great cocktails - all of which are included in your fare! With 1 crew member for every 1.3 passengers, you will enjoy the highest crew ratio in the Galápagos fleet, and it shows. The dedicated Marina at the stern of the ship makes boarding her fleet of zodiacs (known in Galápagos as "pangas") quick, safe and comfortable, allowing you to spend more time in and around the islands. Guests are always accompanied by a professional Galápagos naturalist guide, with a maximum of 16 guests per guide. This ensures an intimate and in-depth experience of the islands and their wildlife for everyone. Excursions include island landings, panga rides, snorkeling and swimming, both from the ship and the shore, and much, much more. You can even enjoy an astronomical tour of the equatorial sky from the ship's unique Star Gazing platform. You have a choice of two Galápagos itineraries with Celebrity Flora - the Inner Loop and the Outer Loop. Both offer excellent experiences of the Galápagos but have their unique flavors. If you are unsure as to which would suit your needs better, please contact one of our Galápagos travel advisors today to learn more about each of them. Our Comments What can we say, other than "wow"! The Flora does re-write the book on luxury and service in Galápagos. We love her high-tech environmental systems, so crucial in protecting the delicate habitats of Galápagos. But we also love her stunning suites, fabulous service, and beautiful itineraries. It's rare you get the chance to sail on a brand new, purpose-built super-luxury Galápagos ship... so if you can, you should secure your booking right away. Oh, and if it's a special occasion cruise, do try and get either a Royal Suite or the Penthouse - they are simply remarkable.

Celebrity Xpedition Galapagos Cruise

- Big ship features but with an intimate atmosphere - Range of staterooms and suites to choose from - Excellent outdoor spaces, including hot tub - Experienced Galápagos operator and crew Celebrity Xpedition was the first of the Celebrity “X” vessels to cruise Galápagos, and her crew and operator brings with them a wealth of experience - not only in ensuring their guests’ every need is catered for, but also in giving you an unforgettable experience of the Galápagos islands. A refit in 2018 sees her return to service with enhanced facilities and beautiful decor. Wide range of accommodation choices Despite her “big little ship” size, Celebrity Xpedition has an excellent range of accommodation options. Built with a "center-out" configuration, Xpedition's staterooms enjoy endless ocean views, private en suite bathrooms, individual climate control, and tasteful modern decor. For those looking for more luxury, an upgrade to a suite will bring more space and a private balcony. For the ultimate indulgence, why not book the Penthouse Suite? Here you'll enjoy the most extensive accommodation on board, as well as a double private balcony with your own personal jacuzzi hot tub! With a capacity of just 100 passengers, you're ensured of exceptionally personal service. Xpedition is small enough to feel cosy, yet large enough for there to be plenty of places to enjoy some quiet time away from it all. Informal, welcoming, social The Panorama Lounge is the social hub of the ship. Featuring beautiful picture windows with all-around visibility, you can enjoy a well-deserved drink while sitting in the comfortable and chic sofas and armchairs and even enjoy some live music. There's also a ship's library where you can learn more about the stunning Galápagos islands or seek some peace with a novel. Outside, the sun deck features unspoilt vistas of Galápagos with plenty of recliners and comfortable seats. Or why not gaze at the stars while enjoying the open air hot tub? Meals are a highlight of any Celebrity cruise, and Xpedition doesn't disappoint. Her main restaurant features a range of international and regional specialties, and there are no set meal times - you can eat whenever suits you and your appetite. The outdoor "Beagle Grill" is a firm favorite among guests, and serves up a delightful range of grilled snacks and meals. There's a lovely informal feel on board, and this adds to the relaxed nature of a Galápagos cruise - a nice counterpoint to the many excursions you will enjoy during your trip! Unlike most Galápagos cruise vessels, onboard Celebrity Xpedition you'll find a truly all-inclusive experience. Except for just a few premium wines and spirits and beauty treatments everything else is included in your fare, including gratuities. Spend time getting to know the real Galápagos Sailing year-round, Celebrity Xpedition offers a choice of two excellent itineraries - either a Southern or Northern Loop. Both provide great excursions, and the chance to experience the distinct flavors of the Galápagos islands, its wildlife, habitats and people. If you would like help choosing which of the itineraries is best for your party, do call one of our Galápagos travel experts for help. They are real enthusiasts for the islands, as well as product specialists, and they will be able to help you choose the perfect itinerary. Thoughtful touches that are included in an Xpedition cruise include the full use of complimentary personal snorkel equipment, which includes 3mm mini-wetsuits, for the cruise duration. Binoculars are also provided for guests to use on land excursions, and walking sticks are available to aid you to scramble over some of the rougher terrain. With a maximum of only 16 guests per naturalist guide, you're ensured of a personal experience during your excursions, and the ship's fleet of zodiacs (known in Galápagos as "pangas") gets everyone to and from the ship quickly and without waiting. The water-level "marina" deck makes transfer safe and straightforward. Our comments Celebrity Xpedition is the most experienced of the Celebrity fleet in Galápagos, and this shows in the efficient operation and the attentiveness of her crew. The food on board is a particular highlight, and we love the informal "eat when you are ready" policy of her restaurants - and her dedicated outside Grill! Boasting some of the most experienced guides in the Galápagos, a cruise on Celebrity Xpedition is a fantastic way to experience the very essence of these remarkable islands while enjoying a luxurious and relaxing on board experience.

  • Journey30587734709 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Excellent Visit! Metropolitan’s agent, Camila Vela, was very responsive to all our questions and gave us good advice in planning the itinerary and the trip as a whole. The Metropolitan representative who met us at check-in at Quito airport was helpful in handing out our boarding passes and Galapagos travel documents and guiding us through the formalities. The trip was fabulous! The itinerary was perfect. The program on the first day before we got to the ship was fairly heavy after a very early start, though we can understand why it was useful to do the trip to the highlands before settling into the ship. We also would have preferred nonstop flights to and from Baltra if available, though maybe they're more expensive or don't fit the rest of the itinerary. For the trip as a whole, everything went smoothly, just as planned. Isabella II was lovely. Our "owner's " cabin was extremely comfortable with plenty of storage (we thought it was just beginning to show its age but it was spotlessly clean and still very comfortable). The crew and guides were superb! Our guides, Alex, Humberto, and Johan, were highly trained naturalists who clearly care a great deal about preserving the fragile environment, they were always good humored, helpful and considerate, and shared their expert knowledge abundantly and clearly, and gave well prepared, interesting, and well delivered lectures every night. With their help we got to see an amazing array of wildlife. Whenever we had a problem snorkeling or on any other issue they were always there to help cheerfully. Francesco was a wonderful hospitality manager, always looking to help and full of good cheer and good humor. Eduardo, our main server, learned our names instantly and was tremendously efficient and helpful at every meal. The food was bountiful and delicious - our only complaint is that we ate too much! All the crew from the captain on down were efficient and tremendously courteous and helpful. All the equipment we needed to enjoy the trip was freely available on board, from the snorkeling equipment to the kayaks. It was useful to have a nice doctor on board to deal with whatever minor health issues cropped up. After the trip Metropolitan provided free of charge a photo gallery and videos that the guides took during the trip. Visiting Galapagos was a marvelous, once in a lifetime experience! We have no hesitation in recommending Metropolitan without qualification - we felt we could not have been in better hands! Date of experience: February 22, 2024 Read more Written March 11, 2024

The naturalist guides not only shared their extensive knowledge of the Galapagos but are also very passionate about preserving their homeland. The meals were so delicious and we loved having seafood at every meal. We met so many new people and saw incredible wildlife and scenery that have made for lifelong memories. • karlasY9840XS 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Best vacation ever We all truly had an amazing and incredible time on our 14 day trip to The Galapagos, Ecuador and Peru! Everything and everyone could not have been more spot on- helpful, timely, friendly, accommodating and the tours and educational experiences were remarkable. The Galapagos, 7 days aboard the La Pinta, was incredible with daily hikes where bird, tortoises, iguanas were everywhere and snorkeling with turtles, sea lions, penguins and beautiful fish - each under the guidance of an experienced naturalist. Our only regret was not to have stayed longer especially at the Tambo del Inka in the Sacred Valley- one of the nicest hotels I have ever visited. In hindsight, we would have taken more time in the country- perhaps one less day of touring Cusco, especially at the end in light of the fact we had already spent time there. Everyone was so very helpful and available throughout our process and we appreciated the work and presence of your “on the ground” associates. It was so reassuring to see that Metropolitan sign every time we arrived at our next destination. It was a trip of a lifetime and you made it the best! Read more Written March 2, 2024

From the booking experience to the onboard crew support to the guides. I cannot overstate our experience. The Pinta is very well maintained. I recommend Metropolitan without qualification. FROM THE CREW, ACCOMMODATIONS, FOOD, "LA PINTA" WAS A VERY GOOD WAY TO TRAVEL THE ISLANDS. ABOUT THE GUIDES, WE CAN NOT SAY MORE OF HOW PLEASANT AND KNOWLEDGEABLE THEY WERE. WE BELIEVE THAT EVERYBODY PUT AN EXTRA EFFORT TO INFORM US ABOUT THE HABITAT BOTH PLANTS AND ANIMALS. THE SCHEDULE IS A LITTLE HECTIC, BUT I THINK THE GOAL IS TO COVER THE MOST, SO WE LEAVE WITH A GOOD UNDERSTANDING OF THE HISTORY OF THESE ISLANDS. REALLY ENJOYED IT! • patriciamU3387DU 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Enchanted trip to the enchanted isles Metropolitan Touring has been in business over 70 years and they know. Three women worked with Melissa Altamirano, who is charming, efficient and responsive. We spent several days in Quito before the cruise started, and she arranged airport transport, and a hotel, which was useful since we arrived on a redeye in the middle of the night. All the staff we dealt with were charming and efficient. The food was excellent and everything ran like clockwork. As a non-– Spanish speaker I was a bit concerned about using a foreign company. Metropolitan is completely bilingual – Spanish and English. Save yourself a bundle of money and use Metropolitan Touring for your Galapagos cruise For the same or a superior experience. The crew, the guides the food, the cabin - all excellent. Of course the wildlife and the islands themselves were stupendous. Our group was reduced because of the political situation but the 13 of us on the boat all got on so well, so that all expeditions and mealtimes were lots of fun. The organisation behind metroTours was accessible at every point when needed and responded to all our questions about the trip very quickly. They guided us through from pick -up at Quito airport to catching return flight to Quito from Baltra. We would recommend MetroTours to anyone thinking of going to Ecuador and the Galapagos. I went to Mashpi hotel for a few days and then to Finch Bay hotel on Santa Cruz Island for 5 days with stays in Quito in between-including a day trip to Cotopaxi national park. Everything ran incredibly smoothly and all staff on the ground as well as virtually were kind, punctual and very informative! What a beautiful country!! I traveled solo as a female and felt completely safe and comfortable throughout my stay here =) I can't thank Sandy and Camila enough for helping to book this once in a lifetime adventure and for answering all of my questions! • glicona1964 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Great experience We had an amazing experience on the Isabela II in Dec. 2023. The crew was very informed and helpful. The cabins were well equipped and the food choices were diverse and tasty. There were many activities each day that kept us entertained. Each evening we were giving an informative meeting about the animals we would see the next day. We felt very safe on our expeditions. This cruise is definitely a trip of a life time. We did have one mishap but it was taken care of. We left a Mont Blanc pen in the safe and a pair of shoes in the cabin. We realized it 2 days after leaving the vessel. We were told before we left the ship to make sure we took all our items but we think the pen must have gotten stuck in the edge of the safe and the shoes were left under a bed and the room could use more lighting. We contacted Diego Zapata as soon as we noticed and they were able to locate the items. Even though because of the remoteness of the Galapagos Islands they were able to ship our items to us and we received them a little over a month after we left the ship. Metropolitan Tours is a top notch company and we would recommend this company to someone that wants to go to the Galapagos Islands. Read more Written February 1, 2024

La Pinta at sea

The La Pinta, which measures 209 feet, is larger than many other ships in the region and offers onboard amenities that you may not find on a small vessel. The 24-cabin ship welcomes up to 48 guests for sophisticated, upscale cruises through the Galapagos Islands.

Life Aboard The La Pinta Galapagos

The team behind the La Pinta knows exactly what guests are looking for and has designed a ship that maximizes your Galapagos experience, starting with spacious staterooms. While you may be content gazing out your large windows, the action happens upstairs on the main and sun decks. By day, soak in the Jacuzzi, peruse the gift shop, work out in the fitness room or watch for birds or whales from several open decks or through the panoramic windows of the indoor observation lounge.

Then, enjoy an evening meal from a menu created by the ship’s Le Cordon Bleu-trained Gastronomic Director. After dinner, head to the library and conference room for a natural history lecture. These nightly multimedia presentations will give you a sneak peek into the areas you will explore the following day and the animals you can expect to encounter. Since your camera roll will be full of snaps of the seals, blue-footed boobies, and frigatebirds you met during the day, take advantage of the complimentary WIFI to share a few.

Excursions From Your Yacht La Pinta Galapagos Islands Cruise

Close your eyes and imagine the experiences you most want to have on your Galapagos cruise? Are you snorkeling amid white-tip sharks and Galapagos penguins? Are you hiking next to a sea lion colony? Perhaps you are you watching tortoises roam wild, or are you walking along lava tubes?

The three itineraries, or five or seven days, offered aboard the La Pinta can turn all those dreams and more into reality. Best of all, because the La Pinta visits many exclusive sites, you won’t need to share the experience with flocks of tourists. In fact, 84% of the time, you will enjoy Galapagos National Park sites without sharing the space with other boats.

You will be able to take glass-bottom boat rides, paddleboard, kayak, and swim in peaceful settings. You will also have the advantage of small-group exploration. Four expert naturalists will guide groups of roughly 12 guests for a guide-to-guest ratio superior to the average of 1:16 in the area. Each bilingual guide speaks English and Spanish, but French or German services can be arranged for groups of ten or more.

Fun For Families Aboard The MY La Pinta Galapagos

Are you traveling with little adventurers? As one of the most kid-friendly ships on the high seas, the La Pinta offers a Pirates Aboard program for sailors between six and twelve years of age. Children are given an activity book with games, coloring pages, and other educational activities, plus stickers and coloring pencils.

Kid-centric activities, including treasure hunts, pirate costumes, and crafts, may be arranged by the staff, depending on the cruise. Kids and parents appreciate children’s menus and games, children’s books, and DVDs in the library. Even bedtime is easier aboard the La Pinta thanks to her flexible room options which include cabins with pull-out couches and interconnecting rooms.

Whether you are a family, a large group with varied interests, the La Pinta is a top choice for your holiday in the Galapagos. In addition to all the other amenities and activities, the La Pinta is proud to provide first-class service. The 27 crew members, all of whom embrace a spirit of adventure, look forward to welcoming you aboard the La Pinta.

Itineraries & Prices

All itineraries are subject to change due to seasonal weather conditions (and resultant variations in river and tributary water levels) affecting accessibility to locations. Thus navigation routes, times and excursions may need to be modified at the cruise captain’s or your guide's discretion.

5 Day - Eastern Islands

itinerary map

Embarkation

AM : Our adventure begins with a morning flight to Baltra Island and immediate transfer to the dock to board Yacht La Pinta. There’s a welcome introductory briefing, boat drill, cabin assignment, and then lunch. We weigh anchor and start sailing for our first-afternoon outing.

PM : The turquoise waters of the channel here contrast brilliantly with the white sand and black lava of the shoreline. A carpet of scarlet sesuvium succulents serves as groundcover for a grove of luminescent green prickly-pear cactus beyond, populated by yellow-grey land iguanas. Along the coastline, you can see sea lion colonies as well as seabirds playing with the thermals that form along the cliffs of this small but spectacular island.

La Pinta’s 5-Day Eastern Itinerary Day One - Embarkation.

Santa Fe Island & Puerto Baquerizo Moreno

AM : We take the dinghy over to this idyllic sandy-white beach populated by colonies of sea lions. Galapagos hawks are often easily observed, perched atop salt bushes. The Santa Fe land iguana, unique to just this island, can be spotted during the walk. Following the walk, we can snorkel and swim along a natural wave barrier or ride the glass-bottom boat.

PM : After lunch, we disembark at Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, the island’s capital, and drive 40 minutes to the island’s southern shore. At Cerro Colorado, we visit the breeding center for highly endangered giant tortoises amid a fantastic deciduous forest, home to dozens of bird species, including the San Cristobal mockingbird, and the San Cristobal lava lizard, both island endemics.

La Pinta’s 5-Day Eastern Itinerary Day Two - Galapagos Sea Lions Sighting.

Punta Pitt & Cerro Brujo

AM : We land at the eastern tip of San Cristobal Island this morning. The trail that ascends from the beach provides spectacular views of the shoreline; we can observe frigates, plus a colony of bachelor sea lions. After the walk, if conditions are favorable, there is a chance to swim from the beach and snorkel.

PM:  In the afternoon following lunch on board, a dinghy ride along the shores of tuff-stone layers takes us to Cerro Brujo’s expansive, white coral beach, great for walking, with rewarding bird-watching featuring seabirds and shorebirds. Also, look out for Galapagos sea lions. These are the same shores that Charles Darwin walked upon, back in September 1835.

La Pinta’s 5-Day Eastern Itinerary Day Three - Exploring Cerro Brujo Coastline.

Punta Suarez & Gardner Bay

AM : Our morning outing at Punta Suárez provides an exciting walk on lava/boulder terrain to visit its unique sea bird colonies, including the waved albatrosses (April – January), boobies, swallow-tail gulls, and the famous “blowhole” lava formation. Also, look for red-green-black marine iguanas. Many regard this site as the best in the Galapagos. Back on board for lunch.

PM : In the afternoon, we set down at this beautiful, white coral beach for a short walk to observe the sea lions, mockingbirds, finches, or enjoy the beach. There is snorkeling in this area, time to kayak, or ride the glass-bottom boat.

La Pinta’s 5-Day Eastern Itinerary Day Four - Endemic Galapagos Bird Sighting.

Disembarkation

AM : Disembarking after breakfast in the morning, we visit the Charles Darwin Research Station and the captive rearing program for the giant tortoises. Here we witness the efforts and results of Galapagos fieldwork and study done in the name of science. We transfer via bus across Santa Cruz Island and a short ferry ride to Baltra. Our journey ends at Baltra Island, where we transfer you to the airport to take your flight back to the mainland.

La Pinta’s 5-Day Eastern Itinerary Day Five - Disembarkation.

5 Day - Northern & Central Islands

itinerary map

AM : Following your morning arrival at Baltra Airport, we transfer to the Itabaca Channel, taking a small ferry across the channel to the north shore of Santa Cruz Island. We board our bus to the highlands, where we’ll learn about Santa Cruz’s unique ecosystems and biodiversity. Lunch is served at a local restaurant.

PM : After lunch, we continue by bus to reach a reserve that is one of the best places in the archipelago to see giant tortoises in their natural habitat. The tortoises are easy to spot, lumbering around, eating grass and leaves, and wallowing in the small pools. There are several lava tunnels in the reserve, too. A short bus ride takes us down to Puerto Ayora to board Yacht La Pinta.

La Pinta’s 5-Day Northern & Central Itinerary Day One - Embarkation.

Eden Islet & Sombrero Chino Islet

AM : After breakfast, a panga ride takes us to Eden Islet, located off the coast of Santa Cruz, where we can observe blue-footed boobies diving into the water, reef sharks, and frigates. There’s a chance to snorkel and, if weather conditions permit, to ride in the glass-bottom boat. The volcanic setting of this area is quite stunning due to its variety of volcanic debris, including cinder cones, tuff cones, and semi-eroded lava flows.

PM : The tiny island of Sombrero Chino gets its name from its appearance, reminiscent of a Chinese hat. This islet, formed recently, makes a beautiful visit as one explores the wildlife along its 400-meter long trail, which begins at a crescent-shaped white sandy beach. The cove offers excellent swimming and snorkeling opportunities amid white-tipped reef sharks and Galapagos penguins.

La Pinta’s 5-Day Northern & Central Itinerary Day Two - Blue-Footed Booby Sighting.

Bartolome Island & Sullivan Bay

AM : This morning, a Galapagos icon awaits: Bartolome Island. A great way to start the day, with a steep climb up a wooden staircase: the view from the top is worth the effort! Following the walk, we take to the dinghies for a ride around colossal Pinnacle Rock, followed by time to enjoy the beach and some snorkeling. We can also ride in the glass-bottom boat for great views of the underwater world.

PM : After lunch, we board the pangas to land at Sullivan Bay on the east coast of Santiago, a white coral sand beach great for swimming and snorkeling, and with a trail over a lava field that flowed here less than 100 years ago. This is the perfect place to see and feel the volcanic origin of the Galapagos while observing its wildlife.

La Pinta’s 5-Day Northern & Central Itinerary Day Three - Bartolome Walking Excursion.

Darwin Bay & Prince Philip’s Steps

AM : In the morning, we begin our exploration of this island with a stroll to observe marine and land birds. There is an optional walk over lava and uneven terrain for dramatic views, or else we can return to the beach to enjoy swimming and snorkeling at this beautiful natural harbor. The more adventurous can snorkel along the cliffs or paddle sea kayaks.

PM : The afternoon starts with a panga ride along the cliffs before we disembark for a short but steep climb up a wooden staircase. Once at the top, we take a captivating walk (roughly one mile) to the other side of this small island. Here you can observe large colonies of Nazca boobies, frigate birds and storm petrels, and the elusive short-eared owl.

La Pinta’s 5-Day Northern & Central Itinerary Day Four - Galapagos Short-Eared Owl Sighting.

AM : After breakfast, we will transfer you directly to Baltra airport to assist you with your departure flight, and bid you a final farewell.

La Pinta’s 5-Day Northern & Central Itinerary Day One - Disembarkation.

7 Day - Western Islands

itinerary map

AM:  Our adventure begins with a morning flight to Baltra Island and immediate transfer to the dock to board La Pinta. You will receive a welcome introductory briefing, boat drill, and your first lunch on board.

PM : Following an afternoon disembarkation, we enjoy a walk along the coast and the interior of this beautiful flat island, observing numerous bird colonies as well as sea lions and land iguanas. There are opportunities for coastal exploration by dinghy. Enjoy your evening briefing, welcome cocktail, and dinner.

La Pinta’s 7-Day Itinerary Day One - Sally Lightfoot Crab Sighting.

Punta Vicente Roca & Punta Espinoza

AM:  Since there is no landing site at this location, the coastal exploration is by panga, while the naturalist guide explains the dramatic geology of the area, with remains of lava flows and tuff stone layers. There is abundant wildlife, and (depending on the conditions of the ocean), we’ll be able to snorkel along the cliffs in the company of green sea turtles.

PM:  In the afternoon, we visit the youngest and most pristine island of the archipelago, Fernandina, one of many visitors’ all-time favorites. Punta Espinoza has a combination of abundant wildlife. Highlights include hawks, penguins, flightless cormorants, and astounding views of the surrounding volcanic landscapes.

La Pinta’s 7-Day Itinerary Day Two - Exploring the Galapagos Islands

Urbina Bay & Tagus Cove

AM:  After breakfast, we disembark at Urbina Bay, on the western side of Isabela Island, the result of an uplifting of the ocean floor. Here you can see corals, shells, and large and very colorful Galapagos land iguanas, as well as (occasionally) giant tortoises. Navigating the Bolívar Channel, there are good chances of spotting several species of whales.

PM:  On the northwest of Isabela, secluded Tagus Cove provided a favorite anchorage for pirates and whalers over the centuries, and today makes a great visitor site. An uphill hike takes us to the back of Darwin Crater, filled with saltwater. We can snorkel or ride kayaks amid the dramatic landscape before proceeding to take our hike.

La Pinta’s 7-Day Itinerary Day Three - Galapagos Giant Tortoise Sighting.

Rabida Island & Dragon Hill

AM:  In the morning, we disembark at Rabida Island’s red-colored beach. A stroll along the beach allows us to observe marine iguanas, mockingbirds, yellow warblers, and several species of Darwin’s finches. This is a great place to snorkel from the beach. For non-snorkelers, we can ride our glass-bottom boat for an exploration of life underneath the waves.

PM:  The north shore of Santa Cruz hosts the fascinating landscapes of Cerro Dragon (Dragon Hill). Our walk includes circling a brackish water lagoon frequented by lagoon birds, while further inland, the trail offers a beautiful view of the bay and the western islands of the archipelago, as well as the chance to observe land iguanas.

La Pinta’s 7-Day Itinerary Day Four - Exploring the Galapagos Islands Panga Ride.

Puerto Ayora, Charles Darwin Research Station & Highlands

AM : The morning visit heads to the Charles Darwin Research Station and the giant tortoise pens within an impressive giant prickly-pear cactus forest. These are the Galapagos’ headquarters of scientific investigation, conservation, and the National Park administration. A delicious lunch is served at the poolside of the Finch Bay Eco Hotel.

PM : After lunch, we head up to the highlands of Santa Cruz Island by vehicle. This is a great place to look for the emblematic Darwin’s Finches and the endemic Scalesia trees. The highlands are also great for exploring the exuberant vegetation where giant tortoises roam in the wild. This will surely be one of the most remembered visits of the whole voyage.

La Pinta’s 7-Day Itinerary Day Five - Darwin Finch Sighting.

Post Office Bay, Champion Islet & Punta Cormorant

AM : After breakfast, we land at Post Office Bay (Floreana Island) to visit the historic barrel that has served as a post office in the archipelago for over two centuries. Enjoy a panga ride along the maze of channels on Floreana’s north shore. Views from La Lobería and the Baroness Viewpoint are quite rewarding. There’s great kayaking and swimming from the beach as well.

PM:  Before disembarking at Punta Cormorant we can snorkel or ride our glass-bottom boat along the coast of an extinct cone called “Champion Islet”. Later in the afternoon, our visit takes in an olivine-crystal beach for a walk by a brackish water lagoon - keep a sharp eye out for spotting American flamingos. On the other side of the island, we come to a white-sand beach where sea turtles come out at night to nest.

La Pinta’s 7-Day Itinerary Day Six - Galapagos Viewpoint.
