Description.

1983 36ft GRP Smack Yacht by Tyrell & Young, Beta 50hp diesel with just over 400 hours, great set of Ivory sails, recently re-sprayed and just returned from South Coast cruise!

Beta Marine 50hp inboard diesel engine. Shaft drive to fixed 3 blade propeller. Current engine hours around 500.

2 engine alternators charging 1 x engine start battery (new 2023) and 210 Amp/hr domestic battery (new 2023). 240v shore power with sockets in cabin. Vetus battery charger. Previous owner was a marine electrician. Galvanic isolator.

Plastimo bulkhead compass, Icom IC-M505 DSC VHF radio with command microphone, 2 x Raymarine Axium chart plotters with AIS, Raymarine depth, Clipper Meteoman weather, Simrad tillerpilot, navigation lights.

2 fire extinguishers, jackstay lifelines, fire blanket, anchor ball, emergency boarding ladder, motor sailing cone, radar reflector, EPIRB, self inflating danbuoy, throwing line, manual and electric bilge pumps.

Cockpit tent (new 2023), mainsail cover, hydraulic anchor windlass, Barient 22 bronze self tailing cockpit winch, raising bowsprit with chain to rope bobstay, mast raising & lowering gear, CQR anchor with 90m of 1/2" chain, Fishermans anchor, mooring warps and fenders.

Full set of ivory sails, all recent, including; Mainsail No 1 Jib No 2 Jib Staysail No 2 Staysail Topsail & topsail jib Reacher (large lightweight reaching jib) Wooden mast & spars all stripped and coated with International Woodskin in 2021.

Galley with a Nelson Tecma gas cooker & oven (deck mounted gas bottle), top loading fridge, hot and cold water supply to sink. Reflex stainless steel diesel heater. Hot water via immersion heater or Reflex heater, also supplies 2 copper radiators in the heads and forward cabin. New green velour upholstery throughout. Separate heads compartment with Lavac marine toilet, washbasin and shower with hot and cold water, copper towel rail. 6 berths.

FEATURES Coppercoated below the waterline. Full professional topside re-spray by Tollesbury Marina in 2022. Survey report Completely professionally re-wired by previous owner, wiring diagrams to be supplied with boat REMARKS "Mutual Friend" was built in 1983 by Tyrell and Young for John Tyrell himself. She is built on the lines of a traditional East Coast Smack, but had 6'2 headroom below decks, with heating, hot and cold water and accommodation for 6. She has been continually maintained and upgraded over the last 30 years including fitting of a Beta Marine 50hp inboard diesel engine.

The Essex Smack 28 ft is derived from an English 'East Coast Fishing Smack' built in polyester by Tyrell & Young Boatbuilders. She is very heavy built (at least 5,000 kg.) And suitable for sea voyages.

This Essex Smack 28 ft was refitted in 2006: the entire interior has been renewed, the superstructure has been newly built in oak, the boxes and engine hatch have been installed in the cockpit. She is in a very good condition.

The length including yankee boom is 12.80 m.

We are delighted to present this beautiful Essex Smack. Built in 1993 with GRP hull on to Iroko decks with bulwarks, capping rail and rubbing strake she has all the beauty of an old classic with sweeping lines, tapered stern and sheer bow.

The rig is gaff-cutter set with an extensive sails wardrobe, sails are original but show in a good state of repair. The mast and all standing rigging has been inspected on a regular basis and all necessary maintenance attended to. The decks are well maintained, sealed and solid.

Propulsion comes from a simple Yanmar GM10 unit, sufficient for berthing/mooring duties. The engine is in good working order.

A traditional yacht in every sense, this boat really does stand out from the rest. Beautiful to look at, equally pleasurable to sail.
