Antigua yacht charter for a day

The best boat option for a full-day yacht charter in Antigua is a luxury catamaran. Sailing catamarans, in particular, are perfect for the Caribbean waters, making the most popular choice when it comes to Antigua yacht charters for a day. These boats can accommodate small to big groups, so whether there's only 2 of you onboard or you're a group of 15, you can enjoy the luxuries and comforts of a luxury catamaran in Antigua.

With hundreds of beautiful beaches, where do you even begin your full-day yacht charter in Antigua? To make the best of your full-day charter, you can head to Jolly Beach on the west coast, dubbed as one of the most beautiful islands. From here, you can enjoy a wide range of water activities, from snorkelling to swimming, to windsurfing, to relaxing around the one-mile white sand beach. After lunch, you can sail to Falmouth Harbour, then Nelson's Harbor, before making your way back to the marina in the capital of St. John's.

Another popular day yacht charter destination is Cades Reef. You can swim and snorkel around the reef and visit a nearby secluded bay. For 6 to 7 hours on board a luxury catamaran, you can island-hop, visit secluded bays, and experience the comforts and amenities of a private yacht charter.

Antigua yacht charter overnight

An overnight yacht charter in Antigua allows you to visit destinations further away from the capital, as well as to sleep under the stars or inside your luxury cabin as the soft waves rock you to sleep. On your first day, a visit to English Harbor is a must. The Harbour is full of restaurants, bars, shops, and beaches within walking distance. Visit the Admiral's House of Museum, Pigeon Beach, and enjoy the great nightlife before heading back to your yacht. In the morning, head to Freeman Bay, where you can moor in the millpond-still waters and head to the famed Galleon Beach, with its bright white sands and gentle waters. Head back to the yacht, enjoy the sunset and sip on some champagne before heading to the marina.

Antigua yacht charter for a weekend

A weekend yacht charter in Antigua can start on a Friday afternoon and end on a Sunday, or the morning of Monday, depending on the itinerary you have or islands you wish to visit. While there are hundreds of islands to explore, a weekend boat charter can give you an experience of a few different islands that offer equally impressive experiences while still giving you the complete list of what Antigua has to offer. Here is a sample boat charter itinerary for a weekend getaway in Antigua and Barbuda:

Day 1: Falmouth Harbour

This horseshoe bay is not only spacious, but it's stunning with its turquoise waters and vast horizon. There are three large marinas here, and you'll find the most exquisite yachts lined up in their docks. The Harbour has become a bustling destination for the yachting community in the Caribbean due to its calm waters and naturally safe Harbour. You can head inland and soak up the rich history of Antigua's British settlement, enjoy some coffee or cocktails on the waterfront, and enjoy a day of Caribbean culture and hospitality.

Day 2: Great Bird Island

When touristy crowds are not your thing, you will fall in love with Great Bird Island. This island has been hailed as a "desert island dream" due to its quiet, peaceful, and serene environment. The coral reefs are stunning, making the reefs perfect for a few hours of snorkelling, and if you hike the highest peak of the island, you'll be gifted with incredible views of the island. Wildlife enthusiasts will also love being on this island. It is a natural haven for a number of endangered species, such as the West Indian whistling ducks and red-billed tropicbirds. Great Bird Island is a part of the slang group that belongs to the North Sound National Park, making it a protected offshore sanctuary. And if you have time, visit the adjacent Rabbit Island, and Long Island, which are all part of the National Park, featuring unique wildlife, such as the Hawksbill sea turtles.

Day 3: Green Island

On the last day of your weekend boat charter, enjoy the spoils of Green Island, an uninhabited and unspoiled island located on the eastern coast of Antigua. It is a popular snorkelling destination and has plenty of anchorages. It makes it no problem to spend your last night here or look for a spot as you enjoy water toys around the beautiful crystal clear waters. Green Island's left is Nonsuch Bay, which features barrier reef protection and tranquil waters, making it the perfect spot to try standup paddle boarding. Enjoy the last few hours of your weekend boat charter on Green Island's pristine white beach as you sip some cocktails and watch the sunset before getting back on board and preparing to head back to Antigua in the morning.

Antigua yacht charter for a week

And for the ultimate yacht charter holiday in Antigua, a 7-day liveaboard on a luxury yacht will provide you with an opportunity unlike any other. The calm waters of the Caribbean offer you beautiful scenery, endless options for beaches, and a world of water activities that you can enjoy to your heart's content. Here is a sample itinerary for a one-week liveaboard in Antigua:

Day 1: Galleon Beach on Freeman Bay

Enjoy a day of peace and tranquillity in this secluded sanctuary. Enjoy the crooked palm trees and spend a day relaxing around, swimming, fishing, or snorkelling.

Day 2 & 3: Half Moon Bay and Jolly Harbor

This beautiful beach is perfect for snorkelling and witnessing exotic birds flying over the waters. A resort is found in this bay, where you can enjoy gourmet food and the magnificent bay views. On the next day, head to Jolly Harbor's island, where you can enjoy a few hours of golf or explore the island on a bicycle, and of course, the white sand beach of Jolly beach's one-mile-long shoreline.

Day 4: Dickenson Bay

One of the most popular beaches in Antigua is Dickenson Bay; this is the region's hub for windsurfing and a prime location for all sorts of water sports activities. The beach has a one-mile coral reef that's perfect for snorkelling enthusiasts.

Day 5 & 6: Barbuda

Head south to Barbuda, which is a 2 to 3 hours cruising adventure from Antigua. This low coral island is blessed with powder white sand beaches and is home to only 1,5000 residents, mostly fishermen. Enjoy the local fishing villages, have some freshly caught seafood, get friendly with the locals, and on the 6th day, head over to the Frigate Bird Sanctuary, where a tour guide can lead you to the protected area. You can watch these beautiful birds nesting and frolic around the protected sanctuary.

Day 7: Morris Bay and English Harbor

Before getting back to the marina, drop by Morris Bay for its secluded beach and fresh drinks on the beach, then make your way to the English Harbor and witness the bustling dock before getting back to St. John to end your one-week liveaboard.

A luxury catamaran charter is a perfect option for a group of up to 30 guests for your unforgettable wedding. Celebrate your union on board a beautiful luxury catamaran, where you enjoy the warm Seabreeze of the Caribbean, cruising over the bluest waters you have ever seen and taking in the natural scenery that surrounds you. Charter one for a birthday party, anniversary, corporate event, or a simple celebration with family and friends.

Luxury yacht holiday in Antigua and Barbuda

Though the islands of Antigua may seem small, two large marinas can be found around the islands. Most of these yachts are berthed in Falmouth Harbour marina, which offers 60 berths for boats up to 100 meters, while Nelson's Dockyard in English Harbour offers over 50 berths for yachts up to 91 meters. A luxury yacht charter in Antigua is the perfect epitome of a tropical cruising holiday around the islands. It is the best and only way to truly experience the region's beauty and spectacular natural offerings. What makes a luxury yacht charter in Antigua excellent is its capacity to bring you to other nearby islands outside of the region, such as St. Martin and other Caribbean islands, making it the first stop to your ultimate Caribbean sailing adventure.

The bays and beaches of Antigua and surrounding waters are protected and secluded, and with a climate that provides safe cruising grounds all year round. It's no surprise that Antigua is a favourite among yacht owners and enthusiasts all over the world. A yacht charter holiday is genuinely the best way to experience Antigua and Barbuda with the islands yours to enjoy.

Antigua and Barbuda Yacht Charter

Top antigua anchorages and their features.

What’s the best way to explore the many islands of Antigua and Barbuda? – Via an exciting Antigua yacht charter , of course.

Not only will you see gorgeous beaches (365 ! one for every day of the year) and natural wonders — Antigua also has beautiful anchorages.

Book the private excursion you’ve been dreaming of — hop from one island and enjoy attractions on and off the shores.

Green Island

Located on the east coast of Antigua, the Green Island is hard to beat when it comes to beauty. It’s a must visit for every Antigua and Barbuda yacht charter .

From the English Harbour, it is just 8 miles to windward, but getting there can be a bit hard when the trade winds are blowing.

The mainland is exclusive to the members of the Mill Reef Club, but the north and northwest side is open to the public and for yachtmen’s use. Nevertheless, the solitude you can experience on the white beaches will make the trip worth it.

On top of that, you can access Harmony Hall, an art gallery/craft shop and restaurant complex, through the dinghy dock on the west.

Five Islands

Do you want to escape the crowd? Drop anchor at the Five Islands. You will find five beaches to explore.

At the entrance of the bay, there are two anchorages that can accommodate larger yachts. They can be uncomfortable anchorages, however, they can be manageable during an occasional groundswell. Now, there’s a nice anchorage at the Maiden Island.

At the head of the bay, you can get a tan on the secluded beach. You can soak in the shallow waters, which is 6 feet to be exact.

The coast along the Five Island Harbour is a superstar with its many coves, beaches with turquoise waters, and fancy resorts. Enjoy them all once you book an Antigua yacht charter .

The only anchorage in this 300-acre private island, the Jumby Bay features a sandy bottom that shoals towards the shore. 100 feet from the shore, boats drawing eight feet can drop anchors.

The island has a luxury hotel, Jumby Bay Island. It is also home to members of the Jumby Bay Club, including Baron Sainsbury of Turville David Sainsbury and merchant banker Sir Roland Franklin.

Arrange private sea excursions and lounge under the Caribbean sun. Snorkel, dive, and explore the treasures the small island has to offer.

Falmouth Harbour

Located on the southern coast and west of the English Harbour, this natural, horseshoe-shaped bay is the largest in Antigua.

Anchoring is possible anywhere, except for the channels and the exclusion area of the marinas and the Antigua Yacht Club.

When entering the harbour, watch out for the Bishop Shoal, east of the entrance. Marked by a large, red buoy, it is almost always easy to spot except when the water is at its calmest and waves break over it.

Keep in mind that the colours of the buoy follow the American system, where the green buoys are to port and the red ones are to starboard on entry.

English Harbour

Only a walking distance from the Falmouth Harbour, the English Harbour is a beautiful spread with a rich historical background.

It’s name originates from the British Royal Navy’s base of operations during the 18th century.

Nelson’s Dockyard, it’s best-known spot, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At the site, you will find restored historical buildings. You will also get to know other historical facts that date back to the dockyard’s colonial period.

Meanwhile, did you know that docking regulations mandate that boats either come stern to the quay or off the channel?

Yachts are required to anchor at Freeman’s Harbour and raise the Q flag. Only the captain can go ashore to clear a yacht charter.

Sailing Qualifications

To skipper a bareboat charter or flotilla yacht, you need to hold a practical sailing certificate equivalent to RYA Day Skipper Practical qualification or RYA International Certificate of Competence (ICC) . For charters in Greece, you must now have the ICC certificate . You must also be assisted by at least one competent crew member over the age of 18.

The port authorities in Greece are now insisting on one of the following practical certificates: RYA ICC (International Certificate of Competence), RYA Coastal, RYA Yachtmaster, ASA IPC (International Proficiency Certificate) or the IYT (International Yacht Training) Passport. If you hold an RYA Day Skipper or ASA104 it will no longer be accepted and you need to obtain either an ICC or IPC from the corresponding issuing body (RYA or ASA). If your RYA Coastal/Yachtmaster or ASA105/106 certificate is more than 12 years old and does not have a photo ID, then we would also strongly advise applying for an ICC or IPC. If you are a member of the RYA or ASA, you may qualify for a discount or free certificate, otherwise, you will have to pay. The approximate cost is £50. Please use this link - RYA application for the ICC or ASA application for the IPC.

For charters in Croatia, Malta and the Canaries , at least one member of the crew or the skipper will also need a VHF licence .

RYA qualifications can be obtained by RYA sailing schools in the UK or alternatively choose from one of our overseas centres in Gibraltar, Greece or Turkey .

For  Seychelles,  the local authorities require an ICC for the skipper of a bareboat or flotilla yacht charter.

For Caribbean and Tropical charters, formal qualifications are not compulsory, however, you should be Day Skipper standard and be assisted by at least one competent crew . A brief sailing resume should be provided to outline your experience.

For Thailand A Day Skipper qualification is required as a minimum and you must have at least 3 weeks of skippering experience prior to your charter. A VHF qualification is compulsory.

If you don't hold the relevant qualifications then why not add a skipper ?

The four well appointed cabins with fans each have a roomy double-bed with generous cupboard and locker space, ideal if one of the children needs an afternoon sleep, plus two bathrooms and two separate shower rooms.

Sail Antigua & Barbuda

  • Location Guide

Typically Caribbean, With a Bit of England About it

Go sailing around Antigua, the main island in the Caribbean nation of Antigua and Barbuda. The island's heavily-indented coastline offers a huge variety of overnight and day-stop anchorages. Antuigua is compact enough to comfortably circumnavigate in vacation mode over seven days.

If a short blue-water passage is one of your holiday objectives, there is time to visit Barbuda. Charter for 14 days, and you'll have the opportunity to enjoy all nature has to offer on this less-visited tropical island. And also enjoy more of Caribbean island life, in all its colourful variety.

Antigua Anchorage

Nature, History and a Hundred Peaceful Coves

At 281 sq. km, Antigua Island is the largest member of the Leeward group with British colonial heritage. Its numerous bays and small coves, and the offshore reefs that shelter them, have made this a wonderful charter holiday destination. A week-long charter allows time to enjoy the island, meeting its people and exploring its rich history as well as playing on and in the water.

A 14-day charter opens up a whole new world of adventures, with a 23 nautical mile passage to sparsely-populated Barbuda, plus all those little treasures on the main island that you may otherwise miss.

St. John's is the capital, a modern city of 80,000 through which land-based and cruise ship visitors to Antigua inevitably travel. On bareboat charter, visit St John's at the start or end of your trip. Once aboard at Jolly Harbour you can then make the most of your sailing vacation with stopovers close by in such places as Five Islands Harbour and Deep Bay (where you may wish to snorkel the Andes wreck). All are near the city but far enough away to seem like another world. If time allows and there's the desire to do a short open-water passage, depart Dickenson Bay early morning for Barbuda.

Barbuda is worth at least a two-day visit, with a big attraction being the Frigate Bird Sanctuary tour in Codrington Lagoon. There are anchorages at Low Bay right by the lagoon, and at the southern end of the island at Cocoa Point.

Back at Antigua, your clockwise circumnavigation continues with stopovers at Jumby Bay on Long island or on Great Bird Island, both inside the Boon Channel and offering great snorkelling and water sports generally. Around this northern part of Antigua there are uninhabited islands to explore until day is done. And there's more of the same round at Nonesuch Bay, where the reef provides good shelter from the prevailing easterlies. Like several of the places you stop at along the way, the local resorts open their restaurants to passing sailors, and sometimes other facilities as well.

English Harbour is an Antigua 'must see' for boaters. Here a young Horatio Nelson was second-in-command of the British station, from which the Royal Navy kept a watch on French possessions to the south. Nelson's Dockyard is now fully restored and functioning, a major drawcard for visitors to the island. The larger Falmouth Harbour, home of the Antigua Yacht Club, is immediately to the west of English Harbour.

Your voyage around Antigua ends with your final day spent in Carlisle Bay. Or sail directly back to Jolly Harbour to enjoy some of the inland attractions, such as that shopping excursion to St John's, or an invigorating hike to the lush Christian Valley.

Whichever way you look at it, Antigua has it all for the bareboat charterer and holiday crew.

Sailing Conditions in Antigua & Barbuda

As part of the Leeward Islands, Antigua and Barbuda lie in the path of the trade winds that steadily blow from east to southeast at strengths between light and fresh, rarely exceeding 20 knots. With winds from the north and west virtually non-existent, combined with the sheltering effect of the indented coastline and reefs, it is easy to plan a series of safe and comfortable overnight stays just about anywhere around the island of Antigua. Barbuda's best anchorages are equally sheltered, in the west and south of the island.

Expect to sail in consistently warm daytime temperatures ranging from 82ºF (28ºC) in January to 88ºF (31ºC) in August. The interior comprises mainly low hills, making Antigua and Barbuda relatively dry islands, with summer being the wettest season.

Guide to Antigua

Azure Waters meet iconic shores that wrote the pages of history

Antigua’s picture-perfect coast is home to what feels like endless stretches of powder-soft beaches with secret caves surrounded by nothing but azure blue waters. To best enjoy the areas once traveled by Nelson, and to best discover the enchanting coral reefs which historically troubled enemy ships, you'll want to be on board a charter yacht . What's more, as the winter home of A-list stars such as Giorgio Armani and Oprah Winfrey, an Antigua yacht rental  offers access to some of the Caribbean’s most exclusive resorts, nestled in a myriad of bays and inlets.

Situated in the West Indies, Antigua is one of the defining jewels in the crown of the  Leeward Islands . Home to the largest English-speaking community in the East Caribbean, the Montserrat islands are found south of Antigua, and to the west are the hotspots of  St. Kitts , St. Barts , St. Martin and the uninhabited coral island of Barbuda . Antigua enjoys a Caribbean climate, complemented by steady winds that make it one of the world’s best sailing destinations.

Interestingly, Antigua’s harbour and surrounding coral reefs were once the Caribbean headquarters for the British Royal Navy back in the 18th century, and their most famous admiral, Horatio Nelson. Thanks to such a commanding place in history, Antigua’s Jolly Harbour remains a preferred haven for those seeking an idyllic yacht charter which promises peace and tranquility.

Surrounded by the finest restaurants and boutique shops, the marina is the perfect introduction to the island before exploring its natural beauty and heritage sites. Travel to Nelson’s Dockyard National Park to see the most iconic landmark of the Antigua’s great history. Perfectly restored to its 18th century glory, it is the only remaining Georgian dockyard in the entire world.

The island’s capital city St. John’s is the largest in Antigua, and is home to the architectural wonder of the Baroque-style St. John’s Cathedral, built with distinct towers that dominate the surrounding landscape. A vibrant city which offers exceptional shopping and fine dining experiences, a visit to St. John’s is a must when enjoying a yacht vacation in Antigua.

What's more, legend has it that Antigua is home to as many beaches as there are days in a year, meaning that a superyacht vacation in Antigua will offer more than enough adventure to keep you fully satisfied.

Do you want a quality vacation in a breathtakingly picturesque environment? Have you had enough of crowded popular resorts? Antigua’s archipelago is the perfect choice for you. Christopher Columbus discovered and named Antigua. Its northern side is a strongly shattered limestone board, the south is the remnant of a rundown volcano. Antigua and Barbuda is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations, the Caribbean Community, and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States.

Location of Antigua

The tiny independent Central American island nation lies in the middle of the Leeward Islands, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Caribbean Sea. The state consists of three major islands. Barbuda lies northward from Antigua. It has a flat surface of coral limestone. Redona is the smallest of the three and uninhabited. Its 300 m high rocks have volcanic origins. 100 963 people live on the island of 442 km2.

Beaches in Antigua

This group of islands welcomes lovers of the sea with beautiful open and hidden beaches. You’ll find amazing gulfs and white sandy shores here. Diving is among the most popular pastimes. The crystal clear water is ideal for discovering the wildlife of the sea.

Gulf of Dickenson:

This beach is a typical Caribbean seaside. The Gulf of Dickenson is amile westward, with hotels standing above the golden sandy shore. It’s a lively beach with sports opportunities and beach bars. Local establishments provide deckchair rental opportunities and other services. Take a chance and try a glass floor voyage, banana boat, or jet ski. Rent a boat to explore the beautiful sea.

Pigeon Point beach:

A spot of sand near Falmouth port, Pigeon Point is the main public beach on the southern side. It welcomes families with children with shallow water and seagrape trees. It’s also popular among locals. Local cafés and restaurant provide a stylish environment with deckchairs and tables facing the sandy seaside. The French menu and a variety of wines further enhance the elegance of the shore. There’s another bar on the other end of the beach serving simple Indian dishes and cocktails. It’s open every day from morning to evening, sometimes late night. More beaches in Antigua

Main sights in Antigua

Antigua is not a big group of islands. Overseas, however, you have plenty of opportunities to explore the outlying gulfs and reefs by boat. Antigua was a part of the Caribbean region of the British Colony. These times left significant historical memories. This is best illustrated by the multitude of fortresses on the islands. The modern era has arrived here, but the capital, St. John’s, is still worth a peak. The Antigua and Barbuda Museum contains catalogs about the history of the islands. You can view ancient findings, colonial objects, and modern memories as well. If you wish for more recent programs, off-road hikes and zip-line adventures are both very popular.

Weather in Antigua

The Caribbean region is characterized by the all year long hot and humid tropical climate. The weather is somewhat cool and dry from the middle of January to the middle of April. From the middle of June to the middle of November it’s usually hot, wet, and rainy.

There are many ports and anchorages in Antigua, we will list some of them:

Falmouth Harbour

The harbour is located on the south coast of Antigua. It is only a few minutes’ walk from the famous Nelson’s Dockyard Maritime Museum. In the well-equipped harbour there is drinking water and electricity available. The harbour can accommodate larger boats up to 100 m in length. The AYC Marina is home to a regatta in April and the following Antigua Sailing Week.

Catamaran Marina

It is located north of Falmouth Harbour, just minutes from the hustle and bustle of the harbour. However, the distance is enough to make the marina peaceful and quiet. The marina has 60 berths for boats up to 60 m in length. The depth of the seabed is 4 m. In the marina, there is 24-hour security, a hotel and two restaurants.

Nelson’s Dockyard

Nelson’s Dockyard is a 45-minute drive from the capital. It is one of the most famous sailing destinations . Also, the Dockyard is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Thanks to regular maintenance and restoration work, the port still preserves its 18th-century look. Once it was a naval base for the British Royal Navy. Today, the Dockyard is part of a complex with museums, parks, restaurants and cafés. You need a permit to berth with your own boat, but you can easily berth with chartered boats.

Jolly Harbour Marina

Although Jolly Harbour Marina is not the largest marina on the island, it is well-equipped and offers quality services for sailors. Whether it is boat maintenance, storage, bicycle rental or even a hairdresser, sailors are not in short supply. The marina has 155 berths of drinking water and electricity.Find sailing routes in the Caribbean or choose another sailboat charter in the Caribbean
