Fethiye Yacht Charter
Fethiye is one of the more popular holiday destinations along the coast of Turkey that is regularly visited by a significant number of luxury crewed charter yachts and superyachts.
This popular and idyllic yacht charter holiday resort lies some 135 kilometres off the south-western section of Marmaris within the province of Mugla. It is famous for its near-perfect and busy marina. Known in ancient times as Telmessos, it features an impressive fortification which is set on the hill that straddles the old city. This old structure was a defensive position which was built by the Rhodes knights.
Aside from its magnificent marina, Fethiye is popular in yacht charter circles for its ancient rock tombs of Lycians. These rock formations have been carefully and elaborately carved on the cliffs and one of the more popular rock tombs is the Amnytas tomb, which is one of the oldest and dates back to the 4th century. Fethiye is also famous for other “old” attractions such as the Fethiye tower, the ancient theatre and a significant number of sarcophagi.

A typical holiday in Fethiye is an exciting lesson and discovery of the rich history and cultural heritage of Turkey. Of course, when we talk about this popular luxury yacht charter destination along the Turkish coast, impressive archaeological structures and artefacts easily come to mind.
However, Fethiye is not just about glorious history as the modern section of the holiday features dated facilities and services that you would expect to find in a premier tourist centre in the Mediterranean. This means that you will have a diverse selection of water activities, a wide variety of dining options and an eclectic mix of entertainment options.
Even while it is considered to be part of the mainstream holiday destinations in Turkey, majority of vacationers access this vibrant resort by water, on board charter yachts. The nearest airport facility is the one based in Dalaman and Fethiye is generally an hour drive from this airport terminal. Arriving in Fethiye on board luxury yacht is the more popular option, as you can access the resort from ideal ports of origin like Antalya and Marmaris.
Popular Attractions in the Turkish Destination of Fethiye
Your typical yacht charter holiday in Fethiye is a glimpse of the glorious and storied history of Turkey. Sailing Qualifications
To skipper a bareboat charter or flotilla yacht, you need to hold a practical sailing certificate equivalent to RYA Day Skipper Practical qualification or RYA International Certificate of Competence (ICC) . For charters in Greece, you must now have the ICC certificate . You must also be assisted by at least one competent crew member over the age of 18.
The port authorities in Greece are now insisting on one of the following practical certificates: RYA ICC (International Certificate of Competence), RYA Coastal, RYA Yachtmaster, ASA IPC (International Proficiency Certificate) or the IYT (International Yacht Training) Passport. If you hold an RYA Day Skipper or ASA104 it will no longer be accepted and you need to obtain either an ICC or IPC from the corresponding issuing body (RYA or ASA). If your RYA Coastal/Yachtmaster or ASA105/106 certificate is more than 12 years old and does not have a photo ID, then we would also strongly advise applying for an ICC or IPC. If you are a member of the RYA or ASA, you may qualify for a discount or free certificate, otherwise, you will have to pay. The approximate cost is £50. Please use this link - RYA application for the ICC or ASA application for the IPC.
For charters in Croatia, Malta and the Canaries , at least one member of the crew or the skipper will also need a VHF licence .
RYA qualifications can be obtained by RYA sailing schools in the UK or alternatively choose from one of our overseas centres in Gibraltar, Greece or Turkey .
For Seychelles, the local authorities require an ICC for the skipper of a bareboat or flotilla yacht charter.
For Caribbean and Tropical charters, formal qualifications are not compulsory, however, you should be Day Skipper standard and be assisted by at least one competent crew . A brief sailing resume should be provided to outline your experience.
For Thailand A Day Skipper qualification is required as a minimum and you must have at least 3 weeks of skippering experience prior to your charter. A VHF qualification is compulsory.
If you don't hold the relevant qualifications then why not add a skipper ?

The harbour town of Fethiye is located on the Gulf of Fethiye and like Göcek offers some of the best sailing in the region. The views are exceptional too, as Fethiye is surrounded by cool green pine forests and has a dramatic backdrop of two imposing mountains —Mendos and Babadağ (Father Mountain) on its doorstep, and the Western Taurus range in the distance. Fethiye town’s rich soil , means there is always an abundance of delicious fruit and vegetables in every season. Fethiye has been home to many civilizations over the millennia and has had several names, including Telmessos , Makri and Meğri —that are now popular names for hotels and restaurants. One of the iconic LYCIAN rock tombs and small but fascinating museum testify. Nowadays, Fethiye is a lively modern town but it still has some traditional aspects, such as Paspatur —the old town , weekly open-air markets and the jostling fish market , as well as many shops , restaurants , bars and clubs . For those in search of an adrenaline rush, Oludeniz (Ölüdeniz) beach , just a short drive from Fethiye, is famous for paragliding and also for its beach that has cristal clear tuqoiuse water … now there is the newly opened Sky Walk cable car to takes passengers all the way to the top of Babadagi ( Babadağı ). Fethiye is an excellent embarkation and disembarkation port for yacht charters ( gulet , motor yacht , sailing yacht and catamarans ) as it is close to Gocek , Kalkan , Kas and Kekova to the south and Marmaris to the north .
Fethiye is only 40 minutes to Dalaman International Airport .
Gemiler: Hidden away, on one of the most spectacularly scenic coastlines in the Mediterranean, is the island of St. Nicholas , also known as Gemiler island . In the early days of Christianity , it was an important stop-over for pilgrims making their way to the Holy Land . The ruins of this once thriving Byzantine community, with its homes , churches and chapels scattered over the leeward side, is well worth visiting and the tranquil channel that separates the island from the rugged mainland is the perfect spot for gulets , motor yachts to moor for the night under the star-filled skies. Hikers should make the trip to Kayakoy (Kayaköy) and the historic abandoned town of Livissi , which inspired Louis de Bernières to write his classic novel, Birds Without Wings .

Many people on a sailing holiday visit Fethiye for its ancient ruins - the ancient city of Telmessos under the foundations of Fethiye has rock tombs and a theatre dating back to at least the 4th Century BC. Though little is known of the Lycians (who left little if any written history) the Lycian town was occupied by the Romans who modified the theatre, which was in use until the 7th Century AD.
Today you will find the Turquoise Coast town a buzzing little holiday resort.
Amongst other things you should try:
- The Tuesday market where you can buy almost anything you can imagine from rugs to pots and fresh food
- The Old Town where you can do much of the same shopping every day of the week
- Climb to the Lycian tombs on the hill above the town
- Visit one of a large number of beautiful beaches - some only accessible by sea
- Go island hopping on Fethiye Bay
- Walk the Fethiye Peninsula (bring water as it gets hot!)
Whether you're interested in the worlds of the old or the new, you will remember Fethiye for the very best that a Turkish yacht charter has on offer.
Explore Fethiye By Renting A Yacht
Whether on a blue cruise or a bareboat yacht charter you are spoiled for choice on a Fethiye yacht charter. The Turkish Riviera has ancient ruins, modern holiday resorts and restaurants with their own piers for you to spend the night alongside.
Fethiye Bay has a small archipelago of inhabited and uninhabited islands that could be worth a week's gentle island hopping, whether looking for quiet fishing villages, ancient shipyards or just a bay for you to anchor in, completely alone.
Nearby Olu Deniz is famous for its beaches. Whether Butterfly Beach (that can only be accessed by sea), famous for its winged inhabitants, or the tourist centre of Belcekiz Beach, you have a choice of beaches that will appeal to every taste.
For those after a bit of a cosmopolitan fix Marmaris is a couple of days sailing away, with its bars, restaurants and marina right in the centre of town. If nature is more your thing, Marmaris also caters to that with its nearby national park.
Within a few days sail in the other direction down the Turquoise Coast you can see Turkey at full throttle in the modern city of Antalya with its Old Town showing life of old yet its modern outer town rivalling many a Mediterranean city for its vibrance.
Between both? You can enjoy one-restaurant-bays, quiet anchorages and quaint fishing villages. The marine life is quite something too - the sea is so clear you never know what you might see on your yacht charter holiday!

Suggested Sailing Routes From Fethiye
Whether on a gulet holiday or bareboat yacht charter, on a yacht charter holiday out of Fethiye you are spoiled forn choice as to where you can go! Here are two possible sailing itineraries to give you an idea as to what is on offer.
7 days - Island hopping Fethiye Bay: Taking in the historic towns of Fethiye and Gocek, this is an opportunity to see the best that the Gulf of Fethiye has to offer. The Gulf has a number of islands (that belong to Turkey unlike many islands close-by) such as Tersane ('Dockyard Island'), Baba Island (famed for its wild rabbits), and the archaeologically important Kekova Island. Gemiler Island has ancient Christian ruins and is known for its links to St Nicholas. On this trip you will get the opportunity to forget the world outside while enjoying the beauty of the bay in its entirety.
14 days - the best of the Turquoise Coast: This trip starts with an easterly trip out towards Kekova Roads and its quiet anchorages. You will spend an afternoon in Butterfly Bay, named for its beautiful insect residents. Heading west, pausing at anchorages and villages on the way you will get to the buzzing holiday resort of Marmaris. Do stop at Wall Bay and Ruins Bay where you will get to see ancient ruins from early Christian and Roman times. Tomb Bay is another place of important archaelogical interest (the remains of the Carian city of Cyra is here). A final stop on the way back to Fethiye will be Gocek with its four marinas and great sailor's buzz!
Best Times To Hire A Yacht In Fethiye
The sailing season runs from April to October in Fethiye. July and August are the busiest months for a Fethiye yacht charter. This is also when the NE wind the Meltemi peaks in strength. Though this makes for a cooling blast from the fierce heat of summer.
With the Meltemi less powerful outside of the peak season - and the marinas and sailing waters less crowded - it may pay off to do a sailing holiday either later in the year or earlier - if you can get out in May or October you may find things calmer both in terms of crowds.
Sailing Weather In Fethiye
The Meltemi winds dominate the weather of the Aegean Sea in Turkey. The further west you go - as far as Bodrum the stronger the NW winds are during the day. The further east you go - around Antalya in the east of the country, the gentler these winds are during the day. These vary day to day and through the day. The most comfortable time to sail in Turkey is during the morning every day during the holiday season. The winds tend to be lighter and steadier in the morning and can build to very exciting conditions come mid-afternoon.
The main points to consider are what is your budget, have you got the necessary sailing experience and qualifications to manage the boat if it's not going to have a skipper, whom you are taking sailing, where exactly you wish to go and what will the weather be like on the proposed dates of your trip.
Ece Saray Marina is the main marina in Fethiye. With around 460 berths it is mid-sized, although rather basic in its amenities.
July and August are the hottest and busiest times of year - and the NE Meltemi wind is often at its fiercest too. A Northern European will still find it very hot in September but the crowds are smaller and it will be easier to find a berth at the marinas.
You will typically pay 50% up front on booking the yacht hire and the balance on arrival. You will either pay a security deposit with your credit card on departure or can get insurance covering damage in advance. In some cases (such as the recent Covid situation) charter companies may be more flexible but this depends on the individual charter companies themselves.
If you are at sea and in danger, call MAYDAY on VHF Ch16 or ring the coast guard on your phone if you have reception. If you have a mechanical fault and can make it to or are on a mooring you will be able to phone a help line number given by the boat charter company.
You should consider do you have the experience to handle the yacht charter or boat hire before you book and where do you want to go along with what the weather will be like. Bring warm weather and cool weather clothing if it looks like the weather can be cool as well as warm and remember at sea it can be cool on most evenings.
If you want to sail without a skipper then you will need relevant qualifications like RYA Day Skipper/International Certificate of Competence (ICC)/ASA 104 Bareboat certificate or the US Sailing Certificate. For small 'day boats' or if you choose to have a skippered on board your yacht charter you typically don't require licences.
We are confident that our prices are the most competitive and transparent in the market.
We won't charge any booking fees when you make a booking with us.
We have the highest number of verified and vetted boats available on the market.

What can you see and do on a Fethiye yacht charter?
A private boat charter in Fethiye grants you access to so much more than what is happening on land, you could never be bored! Here is our list of must-do activities to add to your sailing itinerary in this Turkish paradise!
Go beach hopping:
There is a beach for everyone in Fethiye. For watersports enthusiasts, head to Oludeniz Beach, which is a popular spot for paragliding and other heart-racing activities like wakeboarding, windsurfing, kitesurfing and standup paddleboarding. If you’re looking to combine culture with clear waters, visit Gemiler Beach which is situated on the Gulf of Fethiye and is surrounded by ancient ruins and tombs. For people who want to avoid the crowds visit secluded beaches like Kalkan Beach or Kabak Beach, which is a beautiful bay backed by mountains and also a great spot for hiking or canyoning. Finally, you can’t miss out on Patara Beach, one of the longest sandy beaches in the country and perfect for relaxing and sunbathing!
Scuba dive and snorkel:
There are so many diverse spots for interacting with marine life in Fethiye. Deep dive and explore the Blue Cave, a unique underwater cave system full of colourful fish. Mavi Grotto is another cave system where you can see groupers, eels and even octopus up close and personal. If you want to see some shipwrecks, we’d recommend visiting the HMHS Britannic which was the Titanic’s sister ship.
What is the best time to rent a boat in Fethiye?
The best time of year to embark on a boat charter in Fethiye would be between April and November when the weather is warm and there is little to no precipitation. The average temperature at this time will be 24°C but of course, if you visit in the summer the temperatures will be at their hottest. However, it’s important to note that the summer is the high tourist season in Turkey so there will be more crowds. If you want to escape large crowds of tourists and get better deals on boats, visit in May or September. Happy sailing!
Do I need a skipper on board my Fethiye boat rental?
Even if you have a sailing licence, we always recommend choosing a skippered vessel for your Fethiye boat charter in order to have the most relaxing and safe experience possible. Skippers are licenced professionals that will take care of all of the logistics so you don’t have to worry about anything but having the time of your life. They will dock, anchor and navigate the vessel while you soak up the sun on deck!
But perhaps the best part about having a skipper on board is the fact that they are locals of the area which means that they can give you advice about where to go and what to see, and even show you some hidden gems that tourists don’t know about. If you’re looking for a worry-free sailing holiday that caters to your every need, choose a skippered yacht charter in Fethiye.
What type of boat is best for my yacht charter in Fethiye?
The type of boat that you choose for your yacht charter in Fethiye will depend on your needs and how much time you plan to spend on board. If you’re only planning a quick getaway then we’d suggest a daily charter such as a motorboat or RIB. These vessels are great for holidays of less than a week and since they go faster than other vessels, you’ll see everything on your sailing itinerary in just a few short days! For longer holidays where you’ll have to sleep on board, we’d recommend a weekly charter such as a catamaran or yacht. These vessels are spacious and include the amenities you’ll need to keep your stay comfortable, such as a kitchen, bathroom and cabins.
If you want an authentic Turkish experience and you’re travelling in a large group we’d recommend a gulet. These majestic vessels are very popular in Turkey and no trip to Fethiye is complete without a ride on one of these large boats! Finally, if you’re after a traditional sailing experience, a sailboat would be the best option however, make sure to choose one will a skipper on board since these vessels are notorious for being tricky to navigate!

Fethiye - sailing paradise on the Aegean Sea
The city of Fethiye is located on the Gulf of the same name on the Turkish Aegean Sea. The drive from Dalaman Airport takes about an hour.
The Gulf of Fethiye is a paradise for sailors. Many small and large islands are off the coast here. From Fethiye you can explore this island on a round trip with one of the countless excursion boats. Here you will find many small, (sometimes more, sometimes less) secluded bays and also true dream beaches. One of them is the famous Blue Lagoon (Ölüdeniz) with its crystal clear water and white sandy beach, which is about 14 km from Fethiye. This beach is one of the most beautiful in Europe. This is where you get a real Caribbean feeling. However, the beach is absolutely overcrowded in high season and on weekends.
If you don't just want to lie on the beach, but also want to do sports, you can go paragliding from Baba Mountain, which is almost 2000 meters high, on the Ölüdeniz. The Lycian Way, a long-distance hiking trail, also passes the lagoon.
Like many other cities in the region, Fethiye stands on historical ground, in this case on that of the important Lycian port city of Telmessos. Some historical evidence of this time - for example the rock tombs above the city - are still preserved and worth seeing, but much was destroyed in a severe earthquake in 1957. Today the alleys in the old town are a nice place to do some shopping before the trip. While strolling through the city, one encounters traces of the time before the earthquake, such as the Eski Hamam, a Hellenistic theater and sarcophagi. You can get there via Dalaman Airport, just under 50 kilometers away.
South Sea beaches, beautiful hiking trails as well as natural and historical highlights on a yacht charter Fethiye. The Gulf of Fethiye is a wonderful sailing area with countless small bays and islands. To the south, the beautiful Lycian coast stretches along with almost South Sea beaches. Oludeniz beach is considered the most beautiful in Turkey with its white sand and turquoise blue water. Accordingly, it is popular and many tourists populate the narrow headland. Still, it's worth a visit. The clear water is ideal for snorkeling and diving. Behind the beach the mountains begin, the slopes of which are overgrown with green.
The Patara beach further south is also one of the most beautiful in the country. If you feel like hiking, you can follow the Lycian Way in the Bay of Kabak. It leads along ancient trade routes and sometimes runs along the coast, sometimes in the hinterland. The Kelebekler Valley, the butterfly valley, is also near Ölüdeniz, a deep rock cut in a bay in which swarms of butterflies of different species cavort. The valley is under protection, so nature has priority here. On the way through the gorge you will also pass several small waterfalls. In addition to beautiful beaches and nature, there are many historical highlights on the coast such as the ruins of the Lycian port city of Olympos with the Olympos Beach in Cirali or the ruins of Xanthos, which are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the nearby Letoon shrine. These are just a few places in the rich history of the area, which were created before the arrival of the Romans during the Lycian League, an amalgamation of different cities.

What Choose
Sailing boat or Catamaran, what to sail in Fethiye
Embarking on a sailing adventure in the coastal paradise of Fethiye, Turkey, opens up a world of possibilities, and at Yachting.Rent, we want to make sure that your voyage is as perfect as the turquoise waters of this Mediterranean gem. One of the critical decisions to make is whether to choose a sailing boat or a catamaran for your journey. Here, we’ll guide you through the essential aspects of both, helping you make the perfect choice for your Fethiye adventure.
Sailing Boat: The Traditional Experience
A sailing boat offers the quintessential experience of sailing, where the harmony of the wind and the waves becomes the melody of your journey. If you’re drawn to the romance and challenge of traditional sailing, our sailing boats are for you.
- Maneuverability : Sailing boats are known for their agility and responsiveness. Navigate through hidden coves, or take on the open sea with precision and ease.
- Romance of Sailing : Feel the wind in your hair and the thrill of the sails catching the breeze. Sailing boats provide an engaging and hands-on experience.
- Cozy Accommodations : Though generally offering less space than a catamaran, the interiors of our sailing boats are thoughtfully designed for comfort and efficiency.
- Ideal for Sailing Enthusiasts : If you love the art of sailing, a sailing boat offers the traditional techniques and skills that make sailing a lifelong passion.
Catamaran: Luxury and Stability
Catamarans are famed for their stability, spaciousness, and luxurious amenities. If you seek a relaxed, comfortable journey with room to spread out, a catamaran may be your vessel of choice.
- Stability : With two parallel hulls, catamarans offer an exceptionally stable and smooth ride, minimizing the chances of seasickness.
- Spaciousness : Enjoy expansive deck areas and interior living spaces. Perfect for families or groups, a catamaran provides room to socialize, dine, or simply relax.
- Shallow Draft : Explore hidden spots that may be inaccessible to deeper-hulled vessels. The design of the catamaran allows you to venture closer to the shoreline.
- Luxurious Amenities : Many catamarans come with modern, high-end features and amenities, providing a touch of luxury to your sailing experience.
Your Choice, Your Adventure
Fethiye’s coastline offers something for everyone. From the calm serenity of secluded bays to the energetic pulse of vibrant harbors, your choice between a sailing boat and catamaran will shape the nature of your experience.
- Adventure Seekers : A sailing boat might appeal to those looking to engage more directly with the sea and wind.
- Relaxed Voyagers : If leisure and comfort are top priorities, a catamaran provides a luxurious and serene environment.
At Yachting.Rent, we are dedicated to helping you make the right choice for your unique needs and desires. Our expert team is ready to guide you through the options and ensure that your yachting experience in Fethiye is tailored just for you.
