Zeelander ’s latest motor yacht may scream luxury, but it’s designed to make your cruising whisper-quiet.

The striking new 48-footer, known simply as Zeelander 5 , showcases savvy design both inside and out, but its unique performance may be what really sets it apart: The Dutch yard claims it’s the quietest vessel in its class, even when cruising at full tilt.

The Zeelander 5 is the successor to the popular Z72 flagship that was unveiled back in 2018 as the largest yacht in the line. Like its predecessor, the vessel features Zeelander’s DNA and upscale in-house styling but sports a more voluptuous silhouette with sweeping exterior curves and a sporty S-shaped sheer line.

The interior is no slouch, either. With a beam of 14 feet, the vessel offers a generous living area that can be outfitted in a range of materials and finishes to match each seafarer’s personal taste. The styles available include Classical, Contemporary, Modern or Nautical. If that’s not enough, Zeelander offers a bespoke service for discerning clients who want more complex customization.

“It goes beyond the standard, where the interior can be created to your exact liking,” founder Sietse Koopmans said in a statement. “Every material can be sourced and processed to your wishes, matching the interior of your jet, seaside mansion or favorite car.”

As standard, the layout comprises a huge master cabin aft with a walk-around bed and a dedicated dressing area, along with a luxurious V-shaped twin forward, and a separate bathroom with shower and toilet. The main lounge, meanwhile, offers 360-degree views and comes complete with an elegant galley and a dining area for seven with hand-stitched leather seating.

Other highlights include a swim platform, electric sunroof and a retractable sliding window aft that can all be enjoyed in the warmer months. There is also a sun pad located forward on the coachroof, but seafarers may choose to add a curved sofa or convertible sunbed aft and more sofas or a sleek bar against the bulkhead.

As for power, the Zeelander 5 can be equipped with either twin or triple Volvo Penta IPS 500 or 650 pods. The latter delivers a maximum of 1,440 hp for a blistering top speed of 45 knots. Thanks to top-notch sound and vibration proofing, Zeelander claims all you’ll hear is the sound of the wake while tearing it up. At anchor, meanwhile, the generator and aircon produce just 46 decibels.

Zeelander Yachts used the Cannes Yachting Festival as a platform to reveal details about the Zeelander 5, a 48-foot motoryacht that is scheduled to debut in mid-2022.

The Z5 is a sistership to the Z72 , but adds curvier lines and a sportier, S-shaped sheerline.

“At Zeelander, we want to inspire people to be extraordinary. The Zeelander 5 is an embodiment of that philosophy, a sophisticated yacht that stands out and can be personalized to its owner’s taste,” founder Sietse Koopmans stated in a press release. “The exterior is a continuation of the lines of the successful Z72, and the interior design is truly exceptional for a yacht of this size.”

Features will include side-boarding doors and a passarelle, a full walkaround cockpit, and an opening sunroof along with a retractable sliding window aft.

Sum and Substance

The new Zeelander 5 is not just all appearance and no substance, though; this spellbinding yacht also delivers improved functionality. Its side-boarding doors and passarelle allow easy entry, while the full walk-around cockpit gives access to the iconic Zeelander swim platform. And most importantly, the Zeelander 5 can be opened up for the summer months with an electronically operated sunroof and retractable sliding window aft, or sealed off for cool winter cruises.

The new boat is broader in the beam, which offers many benefits. There is greater volume below, naturally, but also better hydrodynamics and cruising characteristics. And the Zeelander yard has one of the best names in the business when it comes to sound and vibration proofing. Running at full throttle, the boat makes an easy 45 knots, but all you’ll hear is the sound of the wake astern. Riding at anchor, the generator and aircon produce just 46dB – literally whisper quiet. While at full speed, the noise level is only 70dB – like water running down a gentle creek.

However, when owners and guests want it, the Zeelander 5 can make some noise. With 12 speakers and two subwoofers by Bowers & Wilkins on board, the yacht delivers serious power to any playlist. This makes it ideal for bringing good vibes and good tunes to parties, long afternoon lunches and even exercise activities on deck.

Speaking of revelry on board, the Zeelander’s hallmark curved tumblehome stern could host the perfect pool party. Home to a 63.5-square-foot swim platform, it’s spacious enough to accommodate a couple of large sunbeds. The yacht’s hydraulic pasarelle can also act as a swim ladder with steps and a handrail, providing swimmers easy access to the water.

Beauty on the Inside and Out

From the alluring exterior to the smart, sophisticated interior, every aspect of the Zeelander 5 has been carefully considered. Space was integral in the design concept, and so the interior boasts well-designed layouts that provide generous room for movement and enjoyment. The space below deck has been meticulously optimised, offering a huge master cabin aft with a walk-around bed and a dedicated dressing area. There is also a separate, spacious bathroom complete with elegant Corian marble, Macassar wood panelling, and superyacht portholes. Innovative features in the main suite include a TV mounted at an angle over the bed, expansive windows for views of the anchorage from your pillow and a beautiful leather-clad dressing table. As an added touch of intrigue, the modern ambient lighting concept runs to an illuminated sill under each door.

Also below deck, visitors or family will enjoy a luxurious V-shaped guest cabin, either with double or twin beds, with a TV and a hatch overhead. The separate shower and toilet add an exceptional standard of finish.

One of the yacht’s most striking features sits proudly in the main saloon, taking the form of a large wraparound window offering 360-degree views. “Due to their scale and complexity, only one specialist manufacturer in the world can make our frameless double-curved windshields,” commented Koopmans. The wheelhouse’s smart, chic design is as alluring as its breathtaking views. Its light, airy ambience and exacting attention to detail instantly make you feel at home, especially with the added drop-down TV, perfectly positioned to serve the wheelhouse seating area or can be rotated 180˚ to face the aft deck. There is also raised sitting area around the table, done up in plump, hand-stitched leather, which can be transformed into an extra bed by lowering the dining table.

It is on closer inspection of the finishes that Zeelander’s meticulous care for craftsmanship can be truly admired, though. The timeless, stainless-steel hardware on the deck of the Zeelander 5 complements the yacht’s natural elegance; every element is made by hand from the finest grade 316Ti metal for everlasting beauty. Oval-shaped railings, solid end-caps, and seamlessly integrated cleats are just some examples of this commitment to perfection.

Reassuringly easy to handle and maintain, Zeelander Yachts has consciously created the Zeelander 5 with owner-operators in mind. Simply flip over the backrests the create dual pilot seats for effortless control of the yacht’s systems, with options including twin or triple Volvo Penta IPS 500 or 650 pods, for a maximum of 1,440hp. This makes for a blistering ride indeed, but Volvo’s Assisted Docking technology also makes light of close-quarters manoeuvring, giving the best of both worlds. The boat’s maximum speed is 45 knots, but it can also travel long distances on one tank, with a maximum range of 1,333 nautical miles at 6 knots.

The cockpit space also benefits from a space-optimised design with various options on offer. Choose from a curved sofa bank or a convertible sunbed aft with more sofas, or even a sleek bar area against the bulkhead. A further sunpad graces the coachroof forward, both with the option of shade from an innovative tensile awning that stows in the front and back of the coachroof.

Between seductive exterior styling, a timeless interior and real power, the Zeelander is a unique proposition on the market. Zeelander’s powerful fleet of high-performance cruisers comprises yachts ranging from 44’ to 72’ in length (13.4 to 21.9m). While these iconic Dutch-crafted sport cruisers have had no issues impressing its devoted clientele, Zeelander has decided to push the envelope by unveiling its newest model, the Zeelander 5.  

At 48.3’ (14.7m) in length, the Zeelander 5 showcases the enigmatic collaboration with designer Cor D Rover, featuring curvier lines and a sportier S-shaped shearline. The triple engine package is projected to reach speeds well over 40 knots, but all you’ll hear is the sound of the wake astern. The Zeelander 5 is considered the most silent vessel in its class.

Keeping her speed to 35 knots, instead of its competitors 40 knots, was intentional to prevent slamming in the waves. Her joystick system is just that - a joy - as it will enable anyone the capability to run and dock her with the greatest of ease.

This model caused 67 molds to be created to build the exquisite interior superstructure. Superior Volvo engines are also offered to ensure a cruise like no other in its class.
