Miami. Marking the introduction of the BMW 760Li to the press, BMW Individual presents the concept car 760Li Yachtline, a true masterpiece in automobile construction. With this exceptional interpretation the division of BMW M, founded back in 1992, has once again produced proof of its competence: The concept car 760Li Yachtline, designed by BMW Individual, features a carefully selected combination of exclusive equipment, which gives this car its authentic yachting character.

The 760Li Yachtline enables many BMW 7 Series customers who have a passion for yachting, to show their passion through their choice of car. You are sailing the seven seas by yacht. But which is the appropriate saloon to go with it? BMW Individual answers this question with a most distinctive interpretation of the BMW 760Li.

The interior, in particular, gives the 760Li Yachtline its maritime character: The deco trim in the cockpit and in the rear compartment is made of high-grade mahogany which incorporates maple strips, bestowing the interior an exclusive yachting ambience, further accentuated by the emblems of a compass embroidered on the anthracite floor carpet. It goes without saying that the Merino leather in Champagne colour is included in the all-leather package, as one would expect of a car boasting such a high degree of exclusivity. Due to its natural quality, this leather is smooth and supple, making it a very special experience to sit on the 16-way adjustable comfort seats.

The exterior paint exclusive to the BMW 760Li Yachtline is called 'Night blue metallic'. Illuminated doorsill strips bearing the 'BMW Individual' logo, high-gloss shadowline trim on all chrome-plated parts featured by the 'standard 7 Series model' as well as body-colour roof trims effectively demonstrate that this is a very special 7 Series model. White indicator lights and the BMW Individual 20'' wheels underline the BMW 7 Series' characteristic design and skilfully round off the 760Li Yachtline's exterior look.

As with a yacht, it is the smaller details that contribute to the perfection of an automobile. BMW Individual designers have therefore paid special attention to a host of further details like the harmonious combination of the anthracite floor carpet and the roof lining in Alcantara anthracite. The contrast between light and dark colours is a design cue, which has been continued in the design of the bicoloured steering wheel, which comes in Champagne/Black. And last but not least the humidor, integrated into the front part of the center armrest, shows that very special details are concealed in the BMW Individual 760Li.

In addition to this, customers will be able to order additional extras, as is usual with cars designed by BMW Individual. Further maritime features on offer include a compass integrated into the interior mirror as well as cardan reading lights. Technological highlights are the intercom system as well as the DVD system with two 6.5-inch monitors integrated into the backrests of the front seats. The wide selection of special options is rounded off by worktables and a cooling box with an increased refrigerating capacity, located between the rear-compartment seats. The BMW 7 Series featuring the BMW Individual's Yachtline equipment should be available from 2003.

The price for this exceptional automobile has not yet been confirmed.

Posh Midsize SUV Comparison: 2024 BMW X5 Vs. 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class

These historic rivals have both been refreshed for the 2024 model year, but only one can be crowned winner.

In the world of the posh midsize SUV, the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class rule the roost. The pair have a rivalry that stretches back to the late '90s and, with both vehicles having received a refresh for the 2024 model year, the strife between Munich and Stuttgart has only grown stronger.

Despite being on opposing sides, the high-riding Germans share many characteristics. Both are supremely comfortable, are packed to the rafters with cutting-edge technology, and will usher your little darlings to private school without breaking a sweat.

A variety of engines can be specified with either vehicle. From sensible plug-in hybrid engines to performance-minded iterations, there truly is something for everyone - provided you can shop in this segment of course. Is it the sharp-suited X5 or baroque Benz that comes out on top? Let's find out in this comparison.

Exterior: Heavily Refreshed Bimmer Makes Benz Look Dated

In general, BMW's exterior design leaves a lot to be desired at the moment, but the Bavarian brand knows the X5 is its cash cow and, as a result, has gone for a more conservative look . We're relieved, as the updated SUV looks great.

The X5 appears more angular than before, highlighted by the revised kidney grille and sharp headlights. The lower bits of the front bumper have been transformed thanks to new, fang-like air intakes. Round back, you'll note the taillights now boast fiber-optic elements for a more contemporary look. Overall, the Bimmer retains its classically elegant styling.

Naturally, those looking for a more athletic look can opt for the available M Sport Package.

Mercedes-Benz has done considerably less in terms of updating the styling of the 2024 GLE. From afar, you'd be forgiven for mistaking it for a 2023 model. Aside from tweaked head- and taillights, the Benz receives a few changes to the grille and air intakes. A sportier AMG Line package is available for a more aggressive appearance.

Next to the BMW, the Mercedes looks outdated, despite the fact that they both debuted in the same year. Then again, many will flock toward the more reserved GLE-Class purely because of its styling.

Performance: GLE's Extensive Engine Lineup Outmuscled By X5's Brawny Powerplants

A host of improvements have brought more power to the entire 2024 BMW X5 lineup. The entry-level 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six now produces 375 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to the mild-hybrid system, this can be increased to 398 lb-ft for brief moments.

This is considerably more powerful than the entry-level GLE 350, which employs a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-pot. With 255 hp and 295 lb-ft, it's got ample power but doesn't hold a candle to base X5 models. There's also a six-cylinder GLE 450 with 375 hp and 369 lb-ft, which is more comparable to the X5 40i derivatives.

Both brands offer their midsize luxury SUVs as plug-in hybrids. The X5 xDrive50e, which produces 483 hp and 516 lb-ft combined, is capable of traveling an estimated 40 miles under electric power. The GLE 400e, a new arrival for 2024, uses a compact 2.0-liter engine and electric motor to provide combined outputs of 381 hp and 479 lb-ft.

But what about those with a penchant for performance? Excluding the full-fat M and AMG models, the M60i and GLE 580 are the top dogs of their respective ranges. Both make use of twin-turbocharged V8 engines that produce 523 and 510 hp, respectively.

While BMW's engines are generally more powerful, Mercedes does offer a wider range of powertrains to suit various needs and budgets.

Interior: Tech-Laden, Leather-Lined Fortresses

The BMW X5 has one of the best interiors in the segment and the recent facelift has only made everything better. Headline changes include the new BMW Curved Display which comprises a 12.3-inch information display and a 14.9-inch control display. These separate screens are housed beneath a classy glass surface and take up a fair chunk of space on the dashboard.

Tech-savvy customers will find BMW Operating System 8 to be an absolute treat and will delight in the revised BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. There's a new Highway Assistant that allows you to cruise up the motorway hands-free at up to 85 mph.

In terms of style, it's a hit. The cabin melds new tech with old-world charm; leather and wood sit in the mix with chrome and glass controls, and the tech doesn't seem overwhelming at first glance. Other niceties include a faux leather-trimmed dashboard, revised switchgear, and available glass controls.

Much like the exterior, Mercedes has kept GLE interior changes to a minimum. Aside from new color schemes, a redesigned steering wheel with touch sensors, and a few chrome finishes inspired by those in the Mercedes-Maybach GLS, it's much the same cabin we saw in 2020. At least the infotainment has been updated to the second-generation MBUX software, while Apple CarPlay and Android Auto can now be accessed wirelessly.

Overall, the BMW appears to have the edge here, with a more sumptuous-looking environment. If the pre-facelifted models are anything to go by, the X5 will have the edge in terms of perceived quality, too.

Pricing And Verdict: Pricey BMW Takes The Early Lead

The upgrades bestowed upon the 2024 BMW X5 don't come cheap. The entry-level sDrive40i will rob your wallet of $65,200 before options, making it $3,600 pricier than the outgoing model. Should you require all-wheel drive, the next port of call is the xDrive40i at $67,500. The efficient but potent xDrive50e weighs in at a hefty $72,500.

If you've got money to burn and can stomach the fuel bills, perhaps the M60i xDrive will be to your liking. $89,300 is a considerable chunk of change, but you pay for the privilege of owning a fiery V8 these days. Unfortunately, Mercedes-Benz has not released pricing for the updated 2024 GLE.

As a reminder, the 2023 GLE lineup kicks off at $57,700 for the GLE 350 and concludes with the $83,850 GLE 580. Based on this, we expect the 2024 model to undercut the X5 by a few thousand dollars, but that remains to be seen.

Until we've driven both, we can't say which one will be better but, in these early stages, it appears as if the BMW has the edge. More modern styling, a ritzier cabin, and more powerful engines put it ahead of the GLE - for now, at least.

The original X5 was one of the first luxury SUVs to hit the market, and each subsequent generation has only improved on that successful formula. This 2021 X5, which is part of the fourth generation that debuted just a couple of years ago, is an impressively luxurious and capable SUV. Whether you're looking for performance, a premium cabin design or the latest in technology features, the X5's got it. There's even a new plug-in hybrid X5 this year.

Cost to Drive Cost to drive estimates for the 2021 BMW X5 sDrive40i 4dr SUV (3.0L 6cyl Turbo gas/electric mild hybrid 8A) and comparison vehicles are based on 15,000 miles per year (with a mix of 55% city and 45% highway driving) and energy estimates of $4.02 per gallon for premium unleaded in North Dakota.

Unlike those early days of the X5, however, there's plenty of competition when it comes to midsize luxury SUVs for 2021. The Mercedes-Benz GLE is one the X5's most direct rivals. It offers many of the same features as well as a range of trims and performance variants that line up about evenly with what you'll see on the X5. There's also the Porsche Cayenne to consider if you're willing to spend more for the best-driving vehicle in its class. sDrive40i and xDrive40i The only significant difference between the two trims is that the xDrive40i comes with all-wheel drive while the sDrive40i uses rear-wheel drive. Standard features include:

It's a plug-in hybrid, meaning it has a small battery pack that can be plugged in and charged, allowing for an estimated 30 miles of all-electric driving, more than twice the estimated range of the last X5 plug-in hybrid. It uses a turbocharged six-cylinder engine paired with electric motors. Total system output is 389 hp.

Features and options broadly match those on the sDrive40i and xDrive40i, although you can't get the third-row seat on the xDrive45e.

M50i The M50i represents a middle tier between the regular X5 and the bonkers X5 M. It's powered by a turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 (523 hp, 553 lb-ft) and has a number of performance features, though it's not as hardcore as the full M model. Feature include those on the lower models, but it adds or replaces some features, including:

• M Sport brakes
• M Sport-tuned adaptive suspension and all-wheel-drive system
• Standard 20-way power-adjustable front seats

760Li Individual "Yacht line"

As the E66 760Li V12 cars are launched, BMW Individual gives us their take on the top of the line BMW: the Yacht Line. BMW Individual specializes in building cars to the tastes of worldwide clientele, with top of the line materials and features not found on other BMW cars. The Yacht Line is a singular creation with a maritime theme and the car will look good at whichever marina the owner keeps his boat. The maritime theme is best seen in the interior of the vehicle. Mahogany wood with maple inserts was used throughout the cabin echoing the interiors of many luxurious sailing vessels. Look down at the Anthracite floor mats and you'll spot a stitched compass emblem. The Anthracite theme is carried over to the upper part of the car as the roof is also finished in Charcoal Anthracite Alcantara material. The steering wheel is done in two colors, Champagne and Black, while all leather, 16-way adjustable comfort seats with all the goodies such as heating and cooling are standard. The contrasting finish between the dark charcoal Alcantara and the Champagne leather further accentuates the uniqueness of this vehicle. On the outside, the Yacht line sports 20" wheel rims, clear turn signals and Shadowline trim replacing the 'standard' chrome finish of a 'standard' 7 series. Also exclusive to the the Yacht line is the exterior paint, Midnight Blue Metallic, reserved for BMW Individual use only. Also available is a humidor integrated into the front center arm rest, a rear seat cooler, workbenches for rear passengers as well as an intercom. DVD entertainment systems with two 6.5" monitors built into the rear seats is also available. The Yacht Line might be available starting in early 2003. How much? BMW is not saying, but we're betting if you can afford a boat, you'll probably be able to sail in this land yacht. Click to expand...

Interesting find Nate. :thumbup: Hmm I like those wheels on the E65, they aren't so heavy looking. Are all 760Li's going to be getting those, or are they just on the 'yacht package'? I haven't been following the E6* much. --SONET  

The exterior looks much cleaner without all the chrome. The wheels also look good. I like the interior color combo. The wood trim, well lets just say that fits into the nautical theme. The TV screens? I think its a cool idea in a car this price, but they look kind of goofy the way they are put in there. I'd have to see what that set up looks like in person to see if it "works". With that issue aside, I think it looks cool. I'm sure that will be one hell of a land yacht!  

Ack, what's with the fugly wheels? They have that same look the M-VSpokes have with the spoke centers just sitting on the center. And the LCD screen addon modules look like Quasimodo or something. And where do those 'picnic tables' fold into? BMW better get the tables back into the seatback on the new Roller where they're supposed to be.

Huh. So it *is* possible to make the E65's interior uglier. Learn something new every day. Am I the only one who thinks that a "Maritime" package with cream leather accents, weird wood paneling, and compass roses on the floormats would be more appropriate in a 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII than a BMW? Seriously, this looks like the kind of package that guys with big guts and mullets who own Tier 2 automotive suppliers in Detroit order for their Lincolns/Cadillacs, not something offered by BMW. You know the guys; they're the ones who buy big Bayliner and Carver boats?  

Since when hasn't the 7 series had gadgets? :dunno: Hell, BMW was building luxury cars way before even the 2002 came out...

I like the wheels and the special paint. What the heck, it's a luxury car, they might as well put out a special edition with additional luxury content. However, I'm not sure I would call it the Yacht Line. I've never thought calling a car a "boat" was complimentary.

The BMW X5 continues to be a leading SUV in its market, with its fifth generation (G65) anticipated to uphold its successful legacy in 2026. Built upon the CLAR platform , similar to its predecessor, the upcoming 2026 BMW X5 promises a diverse range of powertrain choices, encompassing traditional combustion engines, hybrids, and electric options. Although not every market will receive all variants, the US is expected to continue offering V8 models, including the top model BMW X5 M60.

V8 Still Offered In The U.S.

Slated for release in Summer 2026, the BMW X5 G65 will keep the popular V8 variant but not for all markets. For example, Germany is likely to exclude it from their lineup. The rumored 4.4-liter V8 TwinTurbo engine is expected to deliver approximately 523 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. This engine will likely be paired with an 8-speed Sport Automatic transmission with paddle shifters and Launch Control. It will also feature a 48-volt mild hybrid system that enhances fuel efficiency and smoothness.

As for its design, the 2027 BMW X5 G65’s appearance is yet under wraps, but it is anticipated to incorporate elements of the Neue Klasse design philosophy, signaling a departure from its traditionally gradual styling evolution. Noteworthy Neue Klasse features, such as the Panoramic Display and a revamped central display ( as seen in the Neue Vision Klasse concept) , will mostly likely be present.

This model is rumored to be in production from August 2026 through July 2033. It is important to note the absence of an ‘i’ in the M60 designation, signaling BMW’s strategy to eliminate the ‘i’ from petrol models to distinguish them from the all-electric iX5 SUV, while diesel and plug-in hybrids will retain their ‘d’ and ‘e’ suffixes, respectively, to minimize confusion. As always, the BMW X5 M60 has yet to be confirmed by BMW, and the name changes as well.

except for the headlights, i like this one. the car looks so sleak, interior screams luxury like a mofo.  

i remeber we had that far back in the past....still so nice...those seats look like 100 kg heavy

BMW designed the new Rolls Royce Phantom, but I don't think they own RR do they? BMW is financially unstable, so they are always buying and selling these companies. For example, Land Rover...they bought Land Rover, re-built the Range Rover, but turned production over to Ford. Now I believe Ford is redesigning the Discovery.

What is the estimated price on this thing? The maybatch and Rolls are just about $400,000. Would this car be even half that? I noticed the lines also seem a little smoother, not as "fuggly" as the current 7. Personaly I still dont care for it to much, the inside is nice.
