The food is made onsite and is delicious!! I was expecting a meal like you would get at a dinner show, but was pleasantly surprised because it was way better! The service and entire experience was great!

I recently had a fantastic Riverboat tour experience with my husband and two sons onboard the Tennessee Riverboat Company's cruise along the beautiful Tennessee River in Knoxville. From start to finish, this tour left us with wonderful memories and a deeper appreciation for the area's history and natural beauty. The tour began with a warm and friendly welcome from the staff, who promptly assisted us in getting settled and ensured our comfort throughout the journey. The Tennessee Riverboat itself was well-maintained, offering a spacious and comfortable seating area with large windows that provided breathtaking views of the surroundings. The main deck is where the lunch/dinner buffet is for those cruises (I want to do one next as a date night with my husband!). Above deck, is where a second bar and seating is for the sightseeing cruises. You can also feel free to bring your own snacks and drinks on the boat, which is WONDERFUL! But the bar offered some cocktails, beer and wine along with some popcorn for a little snack. One of the highlights of this tour was the insightful commentary provided by the knowledgeable guides, who shared fascinating information about barge transportation on the river. It was intriguing to learn about the vital role that the river plays in the local economy and how it has shaped the region's history. As we cruised along the Tennessee River, we were thrilled to catch sight of Neyland Stadium, home to the University of Tennessee Volunteers. Seeing the iconic stadium from the water added an exciting twist to our experience, and we took plenty of photos to capture the moment. Aside from the breathtaking views and educational elements, the tour was also enhanced by the warm and welcoming atmosphere created by the crew. They made sure that everyone felt comfortable and entertained, going above and beyond to accommodate our needs and answer any questions we had. Overall, our Riverboat tour with the Tennessee Riverboat Company was an exceptional experience for our family. We highly recommend it to anyone seeking a delightful and informative excursion on the Tennessee River. The combination of stunning views, educational insights, and friendly staff made this tour one of the highlights of our trip to Knoxville. We can't wait to embark on another adventure with the Tennessee Riverboat Company in the future.

We drove from Nashville to Knoxville to ride the river boat. It was a great experience. There is an all you can eat buffet. The buffet food was good the night we went. They had grilled chicken and roast beef with some southern style sides. The roast beef was extremely good. While on the cruise, we had some cocktail drinks. The prices were very good and the staff was very nice. There was live music and there is an open area on the top of the boat to be outside and have a great view. The interior also has a great view because it's all windows 360. I am amazed at how good of a deal this whole experience was. We got to eat all you can eat, cruise down the river for a couple hours and enjoy a tour, and have great live actual music. We will definitely be back!

River boat

Overall it was a fun experience. I had never been on a paddle boat before and the view from the river was pretty cool. Lots of beautiful houses and, of course, Neyland Stadium! The food was good, but not great. They seemed to be short-staffed (which I know finding staff is difficult) but it meant getting refills of drinks was slow; and we couldn't just go up to the bar to order ourselves. We had to order thorough the wait staff, and she seemed to have to whole boat on her own. Overall though, our family had a fun time.

This cruise is now a joke in our household. Their description: Sightseeing cruises are the perfect way to see and find out more information about Knoxville, The Tennessee River and the history of riverboats. Reality: A guy playing cover songs loudly for 2 hours while you float slowly looking at trees and bridges with absolutely no trivia or fun facts about Knoxville, The Tennessee River, or riverboats. When I asked the bartenders about this, they said "He plays the whole time, he usually tells things during songs." So maybe if you listen closely during James Taylor, you'll hear about the colorful history of Knoxville! Cheers! (To be fair: They do have fair drink prices)

Photo of Patty B.

Staff is far from pleasant. The bartender had her back to everyone almost the whole trip or she would disappear for quite a long time . You don't see anything that you don't see on the road getting there except for some houses.

My Husband and I came here this afternoon for the dinner cruise - after reading the reviews I was stressing but this dinner cruise was way better than I had anticipated! We were immediately let on after they took our photo - our seats were assigned as well ! The waitress that took care of us was amazing ! The buffet style food was hot and absolutely delicious - no complaints at all - very good meal ! The one man band played fantastic music all throughout the meal and the cruise and also gave you history pointing out landmarks throughout the cruise ! I highly recommend this amazingly fun dinner cruise on the Tennessee river --- The photo they took was also a reasonable price of only 10.00 - the dinner cruise was reasonably priced - great service from all the employees on the ship and I need to repeat the meal they provided was delicious !!!!

Photo of Rachel R.

I am sure the last two years has been tough on this business. It looks like most maintenance has been neglected. We did the lunch cruise for our anniversary. When we sat down to eat, I noticed ants crawling in the window seal. We had to pay extra for a window seat which is fine but I don't expect to have to fight off ants during my meal. I told the waiter right away hoping to be moved, but all he said was "I will let them know". Nobody even came to look at the window or to address the problem. The cruise route is less than interesting. I don't know if this is the only place the boat is allowed to run but nothing to see other than the stadium. I feel the price is way too high for what they offer. It's a great idea, just really needs some redoing and planning.

The Star of Knoxville is my family's "go-to" for all types of occasions. From weddings, Prom night dinner, birthdays, date nights or sightseeing cruises, this is the BEST way to enjoy just how beautiful our town is. The Riverboat is truly a Knoxville tradition.

Photo of Stephanie Q.

Food is ok but nothing to write home about. Good service, went on "Prime Rib" ride but they served us beef tip and chicken instead. ( Dinner included- a SMALL salad with ONLY ranch dressing, boxed mashed potatoes, a small piece of backed chicken, a scope of canned green beans, a scope of beef tips/gravy , a roll and a spoonful of corn- $$$ for the quality of food you got)Dessert ( dry red velvet cake)was ok. $2 for and drink other than water. Decor could use some up dating and a better music selection ( for example more modern/with the times music) all the music was old and slow for the crowd that was on the boat. Boat ride was decent but was at night so could not see much after the sun went down.

Tennessee River Boat Co.

Ratings and reviews, location and contact.

My wife and I took the two-hour cruise beginning at 6 pm. Interestingly, the boat was actually powered by a hydraulically driven paddle wheel. I had thought that this might be just for show. The cruise was peaceful (except for a group of early teens... who were getting their first dose of hormones) and passed some beautiful homes. Also got to see some of the UT campus which is massive. There was no guide to provide any explanation, so we had to use our phones to identify various points of interest. More

Great atmosphere! Great service! Beautiful scenery down the river! Very enjoyable trip and we had about 35 people!

We recently moved to Tennessee and my husband's brother came for a visit. We thought this looked like a great afternoon activity, lunch cruise down the Tennessee River on a Sternwheeler, not every day you get that opportunity. The staff were very friendly and efficient,... the lunch buffet was fresh and plentiful and entertainment was provided. Their was fresh linens on the tables to give it some class, but the overall appearance of the sternwheeler is in need of updates. The bathroom plumbing was very poor and barely functioning, the carpeting is old and worn out. The actual stern wheel had several boards broken and missing. The day time cruises are definitely an attraction for the senior population. It was a very pleasant experience but I will not pay the ticket price again for a 1 1/2 hour ride for a shoneys style lunch on an outdated boat. . More

Took my wife and great nephew out for the evening on this riverboat. The food was good and a DJ played great music on the lower deck . We then moved up a deck for viewing as we navigated down the Tennessee River . Staff... was very friendly and helpful . More

Boat and landing area were old and unkempt. Skip the dinner- tough prime rib, way overcooked green beans (canned and heated.). Service was unprofessional. Had a decent band on top deck. River is very dirty and you cruise thru an industrial. Would not recommend. Low... quality. More

Think…Golden Corral on the water. Enough said. Tasteless steamed vegetables; dried out chicken and clumsy service sum up this disappointing experience.

I love every trip down the river, especially when greeted with a smile bt Captain Tim and my favorite bartender Dyan. There are many other great staff on the Star, but these 2 make the trip more fun. The food on the dinner cruise is... good, drinks are tasty, and the entertainment keeps me in rhythm as the Star takes me on the scenic tour. I've been on the Star many times and I never tire of the views, the ride and the experience. More

Enjoyed a delicious dinner and fun cruise along the river. Very relaxing and great view of the homes along the river!

The prime rib was so bloody and raw. I like rare, but not mooing. The chicken was more like jerky. The mashed potatoes was undercooked, with huge lumps. Recommend the green beans. The wait staff outstanding, and fun. Take bug spray if you want to... enjoy the top deck. More

So where to begin ... dinner or the boat itself? The cabin of the boat where you will be served so called a " Buffet" absolutely stinks. Smell is overpowering and stomach turning. Smells like dirty , musty dish water & rags that unclean restaurants... use to wipe the tables. Its most likely the disgusting carpet or the stained ceiling tiles. The glass on the tables were chipped, windows were smeared probably cleaned by the same dirty rags. Ah the dinner... Arrived and boarded at 6:30 . The cruise sails at 7 and dinner is then served. I wonder how long the food was sitting on the table as boarding begins at 6 . By the time dinner is served the buffet has been in the warming trays for at least a couple hours I'm sure! The buffet consists of 7 items... Prime Rib, chicken breast, canned green beans, steamed vegetables ( drowning in water), mashed potatoes, rolls and a salad . The prime rib is sliced while dinner is going on wafer thin and placed in what I think they consider beef au jus . Edible but good? NO! Vegetables - DISGUSTING canned/ water logged vegetables , Potatoes - COLD, Roll ( BEST THING) and Salad. For 2 HUGE SALAD BOWLS they had two small bowls with one kind of dressing( Ranch) that was NOT ON ICE and RAN OUT by the time the second bowl of salad was brought out leaving guests with no dressing. They took the salad away. There may have been A DESSERT ( think other reviews mention a so called strawberry shortcake). Didn't wait to find out and went on top deck of the boat for the rest of the trip! Yes anything other than water is an upcharge. ( TEA $2) . The top of the boat is ok, shabby but nothing fancy here. The bar up top looks like a 6 year old stuck Walmart vinyl lettering on it to make the sign. lol! At least I got a laugh out of that but still kept thinking how much effort would it have taken for straight lettering on a sign? The other couple we were sat with commented on they were out trying a new adventure as well..." This may not be a good adventure" was the joke at the table. SAVE YOUR MONEY or just take the trip AND AVOID THE DINNER! More

We took the 3 hour Blues Cruise on June 30th and had a great time! The Bridgett Kelly Band was phenomenal and the scenery was relaxing. Drink orders were a little slow, but probably a good control measure so no one gets completely trashed! We... sat outside, but unfortunately did not get a table for 4 since they were all taken by couples. Oh well, made the best of it and had fun well worth $20! More

We booked a group for a birthday. Unfortunately our cruise was cancelled the day before the scheduled date due to the cruise not having enough passengers. We rescheduled for three weeks later. Unfortunately when we boarded we were told that our group had to be... split up because the other tables were booked. The gave us a table for 8 and a separate table for the ninth member of our group. After some discussion with the Captain this was remedied using common sense. The Captain was great in dealing with the situation but it never should have happened to begin with and the Captain shouldn’t have to get involved to resolve a seating issue. As for the dinner cruise here’s a heads up. The $50 dinner cost does NOT include soda or tea, that’s an additional $2.00 charge (w/free refills). The food was low quality buffet food and nowhere near worth the cost. Just to compare the price points, you can see any of the dinner shows in Pigeon Forge for less and the food at those venues is far superior. I would place the food on the dinner cruise below what you get at a Golden Corral. On to the riverboat. It COULD be great but for that to happen it needs some serious TLC. Ceiling tiles were coming apart, window seals looked corroded, there were spider webs in multiple spots over our table, the carpet was quite dirty and a fresh paint coat of paint would be a plus. The only things that kept this review from being a 1 were the actions of the Captain and the fact that the ride back to the dock was enjoyable while sitting outside the dining area. More

riverboat in knoxville tn

We always had a great time. But the main room always was hot, the air-conditioning could not handle the full-load of people. Also the operators ran out of beer (at $4/can/bottle) about 1/2 way though the cruise, also the service was slow (the employees did... the best they could, not their fault) The Cruise itself is VERY enjoyable. More

Not even worth $10. Buffet was terrible and the seating had everyone packed like sardines..... save your money and find a decent restaurant.

Loved the 3 hour cruise up and down the Ten. river. $18 entry with $4. beers with live blues band. Music was great, very reasonably priced and I would highly recommend because of the mansions up and down the river. Fun time and worth the... money spent More
