The new Sunreef 60 Eco has gone all-out in terms of solar power, which should help keep electric motors topped up for extensive adventuring

There’s a rapidly accelerating trend towards maximising the amount of solar power installed on cruising catamarans, which can be seen being taken up a step on the new Sunreef 60 Eco.

Given multihulls ‘ extensive deck areas this makes sense in many ways and obviates the need for a separate diesel generator on an increasing number of craft.

Sunreef has taken this a whole stage further with its latest 60ft sailing catamaran, the Sunreef 60 Eco which is equipped with integrated solar panels that are even built into the hull sides, as well as the superstructure and hardtop. In total up to 17kW of solar can be accommodated in this way. The solar panels were developed in-house and, although they are less than 1mm thick, the Polish company claims they provide a very high degree of resistance to shock and abrasion.

The boat has electric propulsion via twin 70kW electric motors, driven by lithium battery banks of 140-200kW capacity, depending on the option specified. These are sized to be able to run house loads continuously, even overnight, without recourse to the twin 80kW diesel generators that also serve as range extenders.

NEW 60′ SUNREEF Catamaran

The new Sunreef 60 catamaran is inspired by the future, yet relies on past design principles of proper proportions, elegant lines and unsurpassed build quality. She embodies a completely fresh superstructure concept, a saloon layout plan with an outstanding potential for customization. The Sunreef 60 catamaran features a vast, central lounging space with panoramic views and endless layout possibilities by opening forward onto the bow terrace and aft into the spacious cockpit.

The new Sunreef 60 luxury catamaran is the larger sister of the Sunreef 50’ catamaran . She is an all-around sailing leisure yacht ideal for exclusive getaways, charter and transoceanic adventures. This model boasts a combination of exterior and interior areas easily flowing into one another. The transition from the cockpit into the salon is completely flush. A clever bridge deck and superstructure design allow for a superior level of comfort onboard whereas the generous teak use, high bulwarks and classy lines underscore her modern style with a classic edge.

The foredeck area benefits from a cozy lounge, well shielded from sun and wind. To the aft, the saloon merges with the generous cockpit extended with a large aft platform. All the areas combined form a universal, open environment where flexibility and freedom reign.

While housing the main helm, the 400 sqft flybridge is dedicated to leisure with more than enough space for movable furniture, a Jacuzzi, fully-equipped wet bar, a barbecue and large sun pads.

The hulls of the new Sunreef 60’ catamaran provide impressive volumes to set up a custom layout including airy, luxurious guest cabins and an opulent master suite with a walk-in dressing, desk, sofa, retractable TV and an immense bathroom. It's important to note that these exclusive lithium batteries are 30% lighter than the average marine battery and outperforms it. 

Even the interior decor can be sourced from sustainable material that is also environmentally-friendly. The hulls, for example, are constructed from basalt and linen-based structures. Basalt, a dense rock derived from volcanoes, is proven to outperform glass fiber in strength and is completely non-toxic to the environment. Even the floor of your yacht can be teak salvaged from old homes or boats and refurbished, instead of cutting down existing trees. The options are endless when it comes to reducing your carbon footprint when boating with Sunreef.
