Lian-Li PC-Y6 Puts Your Gaming Desktop In A Miniature Yacht

Spending more time on a yacht in the tropics doesn’t mean you have to spend less time playing all the games you’ve downloaded over the holiday sale on Steam. All you have to do is bring a gaming rig to the yacht, so you can split your time between sunbathing on deck and hiding out in the cabin wreaking virtual havoc. And if you’re going to bring a gaming PC to the yacht, we can’t imagine anything more appropriate than having it housed inside Lian-Li’s yacht-shaped PC-Y6 case.

While the boat isn’t exactly a luxurious superyacht , it does look nice, complete with detailed touches like multi-level decks and even a non-functional navigation wheel on top. Plus, the desktop-friendly size makes it perfect for showing off on a desk, with plenty of available space on the deck that you can decorate with minifigs and LEGO parts to create a bustling party scene. Or something like that.

The Lian-Li PC-Y6 tucks the motherboard, RAM, hard drives (two 3.5-inch and two 2.5-inch HDDs), and power supply below the deck, with the CPU and graphics cards at the center of the multi-level deck for easier access. To upgrade your CPU or swap in a graphics card, simply lift up the multi-level deck and start plugging in stuff like a normal PC, although you’ll have to pull out the screwdrivers if you want to access any of the gear below the deck. Features include support for up to two graphics cards (up to 300mm each), support for CPU cooler heights of up to 60mm, glass covers on the multi-level decks to keep dust away from your setup, integrated color-changing LED strip, and all-aluminum construction. Do note, the case isn’t designed to run on water, so don’t even try unless you want to see your expensive gaming PC blow up in smoke.

If people pouring tens of thousands of dollars into upgrading a Honda leaves you scratching your head, elaborate PC builds should baffle you even more. Some people take great pride in their sick computers, though, and what better way to show off than with a luxury yacht-shaped case ?

Lian Li’s new PC-Y6 Odyssey case looks exactly like one of the monstrous yachts you might find anchored off the coast of Monaco. Instead of billionaires, movie stars, or royalty onboard, you’ll find the guts of an over-the-top gaming PC, which are visible through a series of clear windows that keep dust out.

Lian Li has ensured its new case is as functional as it is ridiculous. While you’re building it, or when it’s time to make upgrades, the upper decks of the tiny yacht open up giving complete access to the PC hardware inside.

But what’s the point of having a unique yacht-shaped PC case if everyone in your WoW clan has the exact same setup? To ensure that only the elite come cruising into their next LAN tournament with the Odyssey in tow, Lian Li is limiting production to just 500 units, with pricing to be announced later in the year.

But whatever the cost ends up being, don’t forget to budget in a few extra bucks for Lian Li’s LED lighting upgrade kit. It really takes this case to a new level of “you spent how much on this?!”

CES 2016: Lian Li Puts Mini-ITX on a Yacht with the PC-Y6

Lian Li was showing a Yacht-themed aluminum chassis at their booth on the CES show floor, and this is certainly among the most unusual designs we've seen for an enclosure.

There is room for a powerful system within the enclosure, as the length of the boat design (just over 30 inches) allows for longer graphics cards (up to 300 mm supported). You will need an SFX power supply for this mini-ITX build, and CPU coolers will need to be of the low-profile variety with a 60 mm clearance available.

This is obviously not going to appeal to everyone, but if you've followed Lian Li over the years they release these novel enclosures from time to time. It was very impressive looking in person and feels well constructed with Lian Li's usual high level of fit and finish.

This will not see a wide release, and no specifics on pricing or availability were released.

The PC-Y6 Odyssey Yacht By Lian Li is a Fun Way Of Taking Care Of Business

If you love superyachts and also high performance gaming computers, but you can’t really afford them both, you can try to enjoy them together. Taiwanese computer case and accessories manufacturer Lian Li has combined the two passions and came up with this exciting computer case, that looks like a cool, multi-deck luxury yacht.

Dubbed as the PC-Y6 Odyssey Yacht, this case will be produced in limited quantities of just 500 units, so there’s exclusivity to it as well, not to mention coolness via an extensive LED use.

Compact, yet practical, the stylish PC-Y6 Odyssey will house a state-of-the-art motherboard, with enough RAM and hard drives (two 3.5-inch and two 2.5-inch HDDs) to make sure you’re able to play the newest games for many years to come. The power supply unit is located on the lower deck, while the CPU and graphics cards brilliantly fit into the middle.

If you plan on accessing the hardware, you’ll simply need to lift up the top decks of the yacht, enjoying this functional design even more in the process. Speaking of design, the color-changing LED lights inside allow users to quickly change the look and glow of their case, which was made from aluminum, by the way. There’s no word on pricing yet, but we’re sure it’s worth every single penny.

9 incredible computer cases you can actually buy

There are thousands of options for cases if you ever wanted to build your own computer, or even if you want give your current pre-built computer a new look.

Some people modify, or "mod" their cases to be truly unique, but not everyone has the time or skill to make a good-looking mod. So, I went online to find nine cases you can actually buy from regular sites like Amazon or Newegg that are just unique enough that they don't necessarily need any modding.

Check out some unique and interesting cases I found.

First, let's take a look at the drab, common, boring computer case design to remind ourselves how NOT to be unique.

The Dell Inspiron is the computer I used at my very first job and I'll always associate with "starting out" in adult life.

Indeed, the Dell Inspiron is a decent, cheap computer designed purely for light-to-medium office work, and thus it doesn't need to be particularly exciting. In fact, the less distracting the better. It has a "don't look at me, get back to work" aura about it.

Once you outgrow it, you'll desire something more. The following cases might fit your bill...

Thermaltake Level 10 Titanium Edition

The Thermaltake Level 10 Titanium Edition  has a "1980's vision of the future" sort of charm to it.

Price: $190

Lian Li DK-Q2

This case called the DK-Q2 made by Lian Li takes the "top" out of desktop, as the desk itself is the case.

All the parts go inside the DK-Q2 desk itself, and all the ports like USB and audio are built into the case's frame. It's super cool and could save you a lot of space, but the lack of drawers could be a problem. 

The glass top of the desk-case comes off like this so you can tinker around with your computer.

Price: $1,138

Deepcool TriStellar

The Deepcool Tristellar case won't make your computer look anything like a computer, but that could be the point for some of you.

There are three compartments in the Tristellar where you fit all the parts. The top glowing compartment is where the graphics card goes.

Price: $377

Corsair Graphite Series CC-9011060-WW

Can't bear to be away from your computer? Most people would bring a laptop. But what if you need more power than a laptop could offer? Enter the MSI Backpack PC.

It's designed for VR applications so that you don't have to worry about tripping on the cables that usually extend from the VR headset to a computer somewhere in the room. It's similar concept that the VR theme park company called "The Void" is using so that players can move around a large space without worrying about wires.

Deepcool Genome

The Deepcool Genome isn't particularly exciting as far as unique cases go. However, it does come with a pre-built liquid-cooling system with tubing that extends out to the front of the case. It's the green stuff you see in the picture above.

Price: $250

Thermaltake Core P5 ATX

In some cases (HA!), the parts you buy for your computer may look so good they need to be visible for the world to see. If that's the case, you couldn't do better than the Thermaltake Core P5 , which has glass panels that reveal all your handywork and beautiful parts.

Price: $150  

Your wall and some wood.

Alternatively, if you want to show everyone your parts, you could just mount them on your wall...

While this isn't a brand-name case you can buy from Amazon or Newegg, it's technically a case you can buy. As the craftsman behind this wall build said in the TechPowerUp.com forum where he posted details about his build, "it's  just a wooden plank with some holes, " and you still have to buy the wood. AeroCool StrikeX-Air

I'm not entirely sure what's going with this case, but the AeroCool StrikeX-Air looks different than almost every other PC case I've ever seen. 

And finally, we have this, the most unique computer case I have ever seen. The Lian Li PC-Y6A yacht case. Yes. Yacht.

It all culminates to this. The Lian Li PC-Y6A  yacht case.

This is, by far, one of the most interesting and different cases I've seen. One could only imagine the thought process that led to the development of this yacht case. 

It comes in black, white, and aluminum (pictured above), and it's a freaking yacht. It even has a little steering wheel at the top. 

Price: $504

Of course, people have tested to see if the Lian Li yacht case floats. It does not.

But it makes for an interesting and very pretty computer..
