We offer luxury yacht rentals; Sailing and Motor. Our yachts are designed for your comfort and are safety inspected with equipment exceeding Transport Canada Commercial requirements.

What About Rain

We sail Rain or Shine. Rain in the city does not mean rain on the water. Our neighbourhood receives less rain than the city and it typically lasts for 20 minutes or less. Click here for weather protection and cancellation options.

Where We Go

Weather Toronto

Weather in Toronto changes daily. Even when rain is forecasted, it only lasts for 20+/- minutes and often doesn’t even reach our playground in the harbour. Check out our weather and other cancellation protection options

What if the weather doesn't cooperate?

The one part of sailing out of our control is the weather. Toronto has a very moderate climate and foul with sub-tropical weather during the summer; rain usually is light and is only temporary (20 minutes). Unless there is lightning in the immediate area or the wind or waves are deemed unsafe, we will be sailing (it often makes the trip more exciting).

During more severe conditions, there is always a dry place on your private yacht in the cabin and covered cockpit. In the unlikely event sailing is cancelled you will be offered a rain-check to return another day for a sailing lesson and public sail. Private Yacht Charters have the option to purchase Any Reason or Weather Insurance in advance.

Is there parking in the area?

Like anywhere in the city, parking is at a premium. We have a number of paid lots along the waterfront and have linked to the Waterfront BIA parking map so that you can spend less time finding parking and more time relaxing on your private yacht with us!

The attached link shows all of the public parking lots and parking garages at on the waterfront. When you find a parking lot near to the attraction or business you are visiting, click the “directions” button to open driving directions to the parking lot on google maps. Please also consider public transit, walking or cycling to get to Toronto’s Waterfront!

Is alcohol permitted on the boats?

Alcohol consumption is subject to Ontario Regulations that are strongly enforced by the Toronto Marine Police, OPP & RCMP. Private Yachts that are not licensed by the Alcohol & Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) are only permitted to provide BYOB service and consumption is limited to while at the dock or anchored – not while the boat is moving (most of your sail).

Great News – Our sail boats are licensed by AGCO and as such we sell both beer & wine and you are permitted to consume your beverages at all time while on your yacht charter. Our private motor yachts are subject to standard alcohol regulations above. Our sailing yachts operate the same as a bar and no outside food or alcohol is permitted on any yacht.

Do you provide Catering?

We have a special yacht – designed menu prepared fresh from our galley available for private charters and shared sails. We also work with a few outside caterers which require 7 days advance notice. Our menus are available from our website by clicking here.

Please see our Food and Beverage Policy for Private Charters on each individual boat. Our sailing yachts and luxury catamaran have in house catering only while our motor yachts permit self-catering. During Shared Sails, we do not permit outside food brought on board due to the intimacy of the close quarters and potential allergies etc. We do however, provide complimentary bottled water. Snacks and Beverages are available for purchase.

We love celebrations and welcome you to bring cupcakes ONLY. Cakes are difficult to serve on a moving boat. Home baked goods are not permitted. While we don’t charge for this service, you are encouraged to show your extra appreciation to your crew accordingly.

What if I get sea-sick?

The waters on Lake Ontario are generally light with only moderate waves during the summer. Relatively few people suffer from some sort of nausea while sailing Toronto waters.

We recommend two herbal remedies that are non-medicinal, Ginger Gravol and Motion Ease. The Ginger Gravol should be taken in advance and is found at most pharmacies. There is a Shoppers Drug Mart across the road from our dock. You can hop in there before you set out on your sailing adventures with Gone Sailing Adventures. In the unlikely event that you are not feeling well on your yacht charter, our staff will do their best to make you comfortable during your sail.

If you plan on taking any anti-nausea medication – You should do so at least 45 minutes prior to boarding your private yacht. Remember regular gravol or dramamine will cause drowsiness.

Consult your medical advisor prior to taking any medications.

How should I dress for a day or evening sail?

Sailing in Toronto is an outdoor activity!

During your sailing experience you may be exposed to sun, wind and cool breezes. Be prepared and this will make your yacht charter much more enjoyable. We recommend wearing sunscreen and a hat. Additionally, we recommend having layered clothing; a base cool layer, warmer middle layer and waterproof outer layer. The temperature can be much cooler during a breeze and when the sun goes down.

To enhance your Toronto sailing experience, all of our boats are barefoot only.

Please apply sunscreen prior to boarding. Spray-on products may damage the boat finish and are not permitted on our luxury yachts.

YOUR SAFETY IS AT RISK

When considering chartering a yacht in Canada, we know you have many options. Some of these options look super exciting and at ridiculously great prices. Recent trends in the industry have opened the door for many unqualified individuals to purchase boats and offer charter services to the unsuspecting public. It’s easy to create a website and even easier to just list a boat on sites such as Facebook Marketplace, Kijiji, Getmyboat, Boat Setter and many others.

Unfortunately, many of these operators are NOT licensed, insured or qualified to accept your trust on the water. In order to be licensed and insured a number of items MUST be in place. Listed are just a few.

• The operator must be licensed by Transport Canada with a commercial license known as either: – Limited Master under 60tonne. – Small Vessel Operators Permit (SVOP).
• The name of the vessel must be visible on the stern (back) or the registration number beginning with the letter “C” must be visible on the side of the vessel near the front. Boats with a registration number beginning with “ON” are not licensed for passengers.
• If the vessel is under 12m (40’) it should participate in the Transport Canada Small Vessel Compliance Program and display a “Blue Decal” and have corresponding certificate.
• If the vessel is over 12m (40’) or carries more than 12 passengers, it MUST BE INSPECTED by Transport Canada and have an inspection certificate on board.
• All vessels must have commercial liability insurance and coverage specifically for the number of passengers approved to be carried on board.
• The vessel must comply with commercial safety requirements beyond recreational standards. Many of these illegal operators do not have the proper training, carry proper safety equipment, nor do their recreational boats meet the design/construction requirements of a commercial, passenger carrying vessel. These illegal operators try to stay under the radar of Police/OPP/RCMP/Transport Canada by:
• hiding the name of their vessel by hanging items over the stern
• not letting you know where they will have you board until just before the start of your charter.
• pick you up at a public park (where docking is not permitted).
• suggest to you that you are friends of the owner/operator out for a ride and not a paying customer.
• allow you to drink alcohol while the boat is underway (illegal-same as a car) but tell you to hide your bottles etc.
• insist on a cash transaction or part of it as a way of defrauding the internet listing company.

Over the last few years there have been a number of deaths and even more accidents resulting from these types of operators. Be safe and know who you are getting on a boat with. All licensed operators should willingly display their credentials, and most are members of the Passenger & Commercial Vessel Association (PCVA).

Shoes are not allowed on the yacht to preserve the quality of the special anti-slip flooring. Shoes will be securely stored during your time aboard.

The pickup spot is located at the downtown harbor front. We have various docks in the downtown area for different categories of boats. Complete details will be provided once your booking is confirmed.

Depending on the length of the tour, we like to cross the harbor and take a leisurely cruise through the picturesque channels of the Toronto Islands. From there we leave the harbor, head towards Ontario Place and out into Lake Ontario. As we re-enter the harbor, you will enjoy unique views of the city skyline. If the seas are too rough, we will not subject our guest to the swells, and we’ll stay in the sheltered harbor (where there is still plenty to explore). While onboard, please consult with us  for the best options.

A professional captain, a first mate/server will be on board to ensure your safety and comfort throughout the journey and your guests.

• Edward Hanlan, a statute located at Hanlan’s Point Ferry Dock

Gibraltar Point Lighthouse

At over 200 years old, the Gibraltar Point Lighthouse is the oldest stone building in Toronto and Canada’s oldest standing lighthouse. It’s located on Gibraltar Point, just north of Gibraltar Point Beach.

Bird Watching

Parts of Toronto Island are  Environmentally Significant Areas , and a variety of migrating birds can be spotted in the spring and fall. Key areas to visit for bird-watching including:

• On Hanlan’s Point, near the large willows along the airport fence
• Near Gibaltar Point, at the dunes and Trout Pond
• At the Nature Reserve north of the water filtration plant
• At Snug Harbour
• At Snake Island
• In the southeast part of Ward’s Island

Sand dunes and beaches run the length of the western shore of Toronto Island Park from Hanlan’s Point to Gibraltar Point, as well as Ward’s Island. They are an example of a freshwater coastal ecosystem that is uncommon along the Lake Ontario shoreline, and are home to several rare species that are adapted to this very dynamic and fragile environment.

There are several lagoons between each of the islands where paddlers can access various points throughout the park.

Toronto Island Park is home to:

• Serviced public boat moorings (48-hour limit) on Hanlan’s Point and Centre Island
• Privately owned Island Yacht Club on Mugg’s Island
• Toronto Islands Marina on Centre Island
• Privately owned Royal Canadian Yacht Club on Centre Island
• Privately owned Queen City Yacht Club on Ward’s Island

Valid ID must be presented for rentals. Paddles and lifejackets are included with rentals.

Reservations are made on-site for the next available boat starting at 11 a.m. Only credit and debit cards are accepted.

Boat House Hours

Closed for the season.

Overnight camping is not allowed on Toronto Island Park.  Exceptions apply for non-profit groups when obtaining a one-time permit for Snake Island.

Centreville Amusement Park

Centreville  offers over 30 rides and attractions. This amusement park is not operated by the City of Toronto.

Far Enough Farm

Centreville operates  Far Enough Farm . Meet ponies, rabbits, sheep, chickens, and other barnyard creatures at this free hobby and petting farm.

Fishing  is allowed on Toronto Island Park. When fishing, be sure to follow all  Ontario fishing regulations and rules .

Sports Fields and Facilities

• One baseball diamond is on Hanlan’s Point and one baseball diamond is on Ward’s Island
• One disc golf course is located on Centre Island
• One outdoor tennis court is located on Hanlan’s Point
• Pickleball courts are located on Hanlan’s Point
• One 18-hole disc golf course on both Ward’s and Centre Island with the first tee west of the Toronto Fire Hall

Permit holders  take precedence over general court use.

Swimming and Water Play

Four of Toronto’s 10  beaches  are on Toronto Island Park.

• Centre Island Beach (Manitou Beach)  is a 10-minute walk south from Centre Island Ferry Dock.
• Gibraltar Point Beach is between Hanlan’s Point Beach and Centre Island Beach, about a 20-minute walk from Centre Island Ferry Dock.
• Hanlan’s Point Beach  is a 15-minute walk from Hanlan’s Point Ferry Dock. A portion of this beach is clothing-optional.
• Ward’s Island Beach  is a five-minute walk south from Ward’s Island Ferry Dock.

Beaches are supervised by a lifeguard and maintained in the summer. Swimming without a lifeguard is not recommended.

Splash Pads

Two  splash pads  are on Centre Island that operate from May to September.

• One splash pad is located within Centreville Amusement Park and users don’t need to pay an entrance fee to Centreville or purchase tickets to use it.
• One splash pad is located near Saturn Playground and William Meany Maze.

Splash pads are unsupervised

William Meany Maze, located on Centre Island, is a hedge maze with 1,200 Black Cedars planted in a winding design. This recreates the original Toronto Island maze, a landmark built in 1967 to honour Canada’s centennial year.

Toronto Island Park is also home to Avenue of the Islands Gardens.

Franklin Children’s Garden

The garden  is a hands-on learning environment that combines interactive features with recreational programming for children. Franklin’s Children’s Garden is inspired by Franklin the Turtle from the celebrated book series illustrated by Brenda Clark and published by Kids Can Press.

Toronto Island Park is connected by many multi-use trails, paths and bridges that are shared by pedestrians, cyclists, roller-skaters, and service and emergency vehicles.

• Follow all posted signage and  rules
• Rent a bicycle from  Toronto Island Bicycle Rentals  (not City-own or operated)
• Electric scooters, motorcycles or e-bikes over 40 kilograms are not allowed in the park

The boardwalk offers a 1.5-kilometre walk with views of Lake Ontario, Tommy Thompson Park and Ward’s Island Beach. The main entry and exit points are located on the north side of Ward’s Island Beach and just east of Centre Island Beach with others along the way.

Centre Island Pier

Centre Island pier provides views of the islands, Tommy Thompson Park and Toronto’s city skyline. It’s located at Centre Island Beach.

Note: Summer weekend parking near the ferry terminal is very limited and can be expensive. We strongly encourage guests to consider taking public transit, including TTC or Go Transit. 

The Jack Layton Ferry Terminal does not offer on-site parking. However, several independent parking lots are available along the waterfront, with the two closest being:

• 7 Queens Quay East, an outdoor surface lot just east of the ferry terminal, on the south side
• RBC WaterPark Place at 88 Queens Quay W, an indoor, underground lot just west of the ferry terminal, on the north side

The nearest TTC stop is Queens Quay/Ferry Docks Station, which is best accessed by the following streetcars:

• 509 Harbourfront  streetcar

Union Station/Go Transit

Friendly reminder: round-trip ferry transportation from Jack Layton Terminal to Centre Island is included in your Alumni Family Day ticket purchase.

Toronto Island Park can get very busy during summer weekends. Avoid crowds by catching the ferry to the Islands before 10 a.m. and returning to Toronto by 5:30 p.m.

Kelowna listed among top boat rental locations in Canada

One of the best ideas for living or vacationing in the Okanagan is getting out onto one of the region’s many lakes.

In fact, it’s such a popular item that Kelowna is ranked fourth among Canada’s top 10 boating locations.

That’s according to a new report based on boat rentals across the nation, which has Toronto ranked first and Vancouver at second. Placing third: The Montreal suburb of Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue.

“Kelowna is a prime boating location on Okanagan Lake’s eastern shore due to its warm lake waters and the surrounding Okanagan Valley,” reads the report from GetMyBoat.com .

“This area is beloved for its vineyards and wineries, and stunning landscapes that surround the region. Okanagan Lake is particularly popular with water sports enthusiasts, reinforced by the fact the most popular style of boat to rent here are wakeboats and bowriders, the ideal vessels for wakeboarding, waterskiing, tubing, and other fun activities.

“There are many waterfront restaurants on the lake, making Kelowna a prime location for a dock and dine experience, too.”

Though it is placed behind Canada’s three biggest cities, Kelowna apparently offers much cheaper pricing than its larger counterparts.

Toronto was listed as having an hourly rate of $259 and an average trip price of $753, while Vancouver was tagged at $295 and $1,031.

Kelowna’s cost were said to be $91 an hour with an average trip price of $493.

A note, though: Prices vary widely per business and per boat.

As to why renting a boat is a good idea in the Okanagan, look no further than boat-only accessible areas, of which there are plenty.

“One of my favourite places is Ellison Provincial Park,” said Trent Redschlag of Okanagan Lake Boat Rentals . “You can pull up to a buoy and just float there.”

Other notable places Redschlag mentioned include Rattlesnake Island, “which is very cool and very scenic,” along with some waterfront restaurants and wineries with boat access.

Asked if he was surprised to see Kelowna ranked fourth, Redschlag said he wasn’t.

“I can’t say I am,” he said. “I grew up here and I think the Okanagan is No. 1 in my opinion.

“On Okanagan Lake, you can see multi-million-dollar homes and wineries. There’s also Okanagan Mountain Park, with its forestry and nature.

“You can hop lakes to Kal Lake, which is the bluest lake in the Okanagan and has great scenery as well. You can cruise there and cruise into Wood Lake.

“There’s a lot to see in the Okanagan.”
