Bilgin Flagship 80m TATIANA Sold by IYC & Fraser Yachts

By Jenna Mehdi

IYC has announced the sale of 80m Bilgin Yachts’ flagship TATIANA. The largest Turkish-built yacht has been sold at an undisclosed price by Monaco-based IYC broker Leo Jordil. Alex Krykanyuk of Fraser Yachts is responsible for introducing the buyer.

Delivered in 2020 and stealing the limelight at the Monaco Yacht Show last year, the first unit of Bilgin’s 263 series sports a sleek and stylish design by Unique Yacht Design.

Her impeccably appointed H2 Yacht Design interiors strike a perfect balance between comfort and luxury. A 30-foot long freshwater swimming pool on the lower deck, second glass-bottomed pool on the main deck and jaw-dropping 1,200 square foot beach club are amongst the yacht’s many highlights.

Built on an environmentally sustainable platform and complete with special exhaust system promising 100% clean air emissions, TATIANA is very much a luxury yacht of the modern day. Her clean, striking lines are a distinctive hallmark of the Bilgin Yachts brand.

Accommodating 12 guests in eight luxurious cabins, complete with dedicated owner’s suite, TATIANA also houses 20 crew members to attend to guests’ every need. Previously listed for charter with IYC from $775,000 per week, TATIANA is a versatile vessel built to IMO Tier III compliance.

TATIANA is an excellent example of fine Turkish build, propelling yards such as Bilgin to leadership positions on the global yacht building stage.

"The yacht is contemporary in layout with generous salons and a huge spa and beach club aft being a particular highlight." Jonny Horsfield, Founder H2 Yacht Design

The 256-foot Tatiana is one of the best yachts to come out of Turkey ever.

Standing on Tatiana ’s vast main deck next to the pool—just one of three on board—it’s hard to imagine that Bilgin Yachts in Turkey was building boats out of wood up until 2014. In fact, the owner’s two previous yachts, sharing the same name, were constructed from mahogany and epoxy.

But his latest 262-foot superyacht , which was launched in 2020 but made its public debut at last month’s Monaco Yacht Show, has no trace of sawdust and resin. Built of steel and aluminum in a state-of-the-art facility, it has an internal volume of 1,689 gross tons—more than twice that of Bilgin’s previous flagship.

Tatiana ’s graceful silhouette, long overhangs and sweeping sheerline by Unique Yacht Design seem to hark back to the classic yachts of yesteryear. The design could have been wider and chunkier to increase interior volume, but the owner was more interested in elegant lines and a “sleek and sexy profile while avoiding a high dosage of design clichés.”

The 256-foot Tatiana is one of the best yachts to come out of Turkey ever.

The shipyard approached UK-based H2 Design, a long-term design partner, to translate the owner’s brief into “comfortable, luxurious yet usable interiors.” With chartering also in mind, timeless understatement is the dominant theme of the interior design. The result is a modern, detailed residential look for a home away from home feel.

“The owner is an extremely family-oriented man who loves to socialize with his family and friends and spends months on end in the summer on his yacht,” Jonny Horsfield, founder of H2 Design, told me during a tour at the Monaco show. “He’s been been involved in the industry for years, so he knew exactly what he likes and doesn’t like.”

Horsfield singles out the beach club on the lower deck as “the epicenter of the yacht”—and it’s not hard to see why. When under way, access is from the main salon via a grand central staircase of polished mahogany and white Carrara marble. At anchor, when the transom door is raised and the two side platforms deployed, the area covers nearly 1,200 square feet.

The centerpiece is a 30-foot long, freshwater swimming pool. Skylights set into the floor of the second pool on the main deck mean the beach club is bathed in dappled light even when the shell doors are closed (during transit the water can be drained and stored in a heated tank). After dusk, optic fibers integrated into the deck twinkle like nighttime constellations. A hammam, massage room and wet bar with a backlit floor of brilliant blue agate complete the spa facilities.

With four ensuite guest cabins, three VIP suites, a dedicated owner’s deck and private office on bridge deck, gym and cinema room, Tatiana represents a new benchmark for Turkish-built yachts and can easily compete with Italian equivalents in terms of quality, comfort and attention to detail. In the cinema room on the lower deck, for example, extra insulation was added not so much to block noise and vibration from the nearby engine room, but to prevent sound from escaping into the gym next door.

Tatiana ’s technical specifications similarly leave nothing to be desired. The shipyard deliberately delayed the keel laying to wait for new and more stringent regulations from the International Maritime Organization (IMO) governing emissions in North American and U.S. Caribbean waters. This led to installing a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) exhaust treatment system that ensures high engine power and efficiency while reducing harmful NOx emissions.

“The catalytic converters take up as much space as the MTU engines, which meant a bigger engine room than usual,” says Berkay Yilmaz, Bilgin commercial director. “But we took the decision to have them installed anyway because they represent added value for the owner by future-proofing his investment.”

Tatiana is the first in a limited series of sisterships based on the same technical platform that will see Bilgin launch a second yacht, already sold, next year and a third in 2023.

The Axioma moored in the Caribbean in 2018. The vessel was auctioned by the Gibraltar Admiralty Court.

$75m superyacht linked to Russian steel billionaire auctioned off in Gibraltar

The vessel was seized in March under sanctions imposed on Moscow over the war in Ukraine

A £65m superyacht owned by a sanctioned Russian oligarch has attracted 63 bids at auction in Gibraltar in the first sale of an oligarch’s assets since Putin invaded Ukraine in February.

The 72.5-metre Axioma , was seized from steel billionaire Dmitry Pumpyansky in March following sanctions by the UK, EU and the US .

The Office of the Admiralty Marshal in Gibraltar said on Tuesday that “63 bids have been received” for Axioma but refused to detail the value of the bids for the yacht, which features six luxurious guest cabins, a swimming pool, a 3D cinema room, gym, jacuzzi and a fully equipped spa.

“The successful bidder will be selected by the Admiralty Marshal but details of the bidder and the value of the offer will remain confidential,” the court said in a statement. “Details about the sale value of the vessel will be made available once the transaction has been completed which could take place in approximately 10 to 14 days.”

The sale of Axioma has attracted controversy because it is being sold not for the benefit of the Ukrainian people but for a US investment bank, JP Morgan, which claims Pumpyansky owes it more than €20.5m (£17m).

Pumpyansky was until March of this year the owner and chairman of the steel pipe manufacturer OAO TMK, a supplier to the Russian state-owned energy company Gazprom. The UK said the billionaire, who it said had built up an estimated £1.84bn fortune, was one of the oligarchs “closest to Putin” .

The yacht was detained by the Gibraltar government after a legal claim from JP Morgan , which said Pumpyansky’s holding company Pyrene Investments owed it more than $20m.

JP Morgan said the fact the billionaire had been subjected to sanctions meant the terms of the loan had been breached because it legally could not accept loan repayments from Pyrene, and asked the Gibraltar courts to detain and sell the yacht.

There was an “unexpected late surge by prospective buyers” around the world for the vessel, Nigel Hollyer, broker to the admiralty marshal of the supreme court of Gibraltar who led the auction, told the Guardian last week .

The yacht, which was designed by the famed superyacht designer Alberto Pinto, was built by Dunya Yachts in Turkey in 2013. The boat, which was originally named Red Square before being renamed Axioma, was available for other millionaires to charter for $558,500 a week.

“With its luxurious interiors, vast array of onboard facilities and a highly trained and professional crew, a luxury yacht vacation onboard motor yacht Axioma promises to be nothing short of spectacular,” the charter listing states.

The Axioma is the first seized luxury yacht known to be auctioned since the west imposed sanctions on powerful Russians after the February invasion of Ukraine . Scores of yachts and houses linked to Russian oligarchs have been seized by world governments since the invasion. British and American authorities have said they would seek to send the proceeds of sold assets to Ukraine.

James Jaffa, a lawyer for British firm Jaffa & Co which specialises in yachts and who had represented the Axioma before it was seized, said the vessel was likely to sell for “way below” €20m.

After the auction, he said, the ship broker, crew wages, the shipyard and maintenance would need to be paid ahead of the bank.

A successful sale would, nonetheless, be a “benchmark” for other banks looking to recoup losses by auctioning the repossessed property and other assets of sanctioned oligarchs.

“Axioma will be a watershed moment for assets that have bank financing against them because all the other banks will realise that the asset can be sold and that they can get some or all of their money back,” he said.

He stressed, however, that assets without financial claims against them which were seized by governments because of sanctions alone would be harder to sell.

Exiled russian oligarch’s 257’ superyacht amaryllis seen towed through palm beach.

The Amaryllis being towed past the former mansion of Henry Flagler, built in 1902

By John Jannarone and Alan Hatfield

The 257’ superyacht Amaryllis apparently owned by exiled Russian oligarch Andrey Borodin was towed past Palm Beach, FL on Friday morning, according to a visual account by CorpGov .

The yacht, whose owner is frequently cited as Mr. Borodin by enthusiast publications, moved slowly through the Lake Worth lagoon where bridges were raised for its passage. A towboat with flashing lights about 150 feet ahead pulled the Amaryllis , built by German shipyard Abeking & Rasmussen in 2011.

While CorpGov could not officially confirm Mr. Borodin as the owner of the vessel, his wife, socialite Tatiana Korsakova, has posted dozens of Instagram photos and videos aboard the Amaryllis. A yacht broker interviewed by CorpGov confirmed that Ms. Korsakova is indeed aboard the Amaryllis in the photos and videos.

The sighting comes as billions of dollars in Russian-owned yachts have been seized around the world as a result of international sanctions. CNN has published an extensive list of seized vessels, which were taken in harbor cities including Mallorca, Spain and London.

However, it is unclear if the Amaryllis was being seized or voluntarily towed. Very large yachts often choose to be towed because bridges are required to raise for them, according to the yacht broker.

The former Bank of Moscow chief was granted political asylum in the UK in February 2013 after fleeing what he alleged to be politically-motivated fraud and embezzlement charges. Mr. Borodin would go on to be tried and convicted in abstentia in Russian Court in 2018, but not before managing to enlist a number of prominent American lawmakers to lobby Washington for a U.S. visa. Despite Russian extradition requests to the UK government, Borodin’s controversial attempts to make large donations to the NHS, and the uncovering of an assassination plot against his life, the fugitive banker remains overseas, having been granted access to his Swiss bank accounts and having made several notable London real estate purchases during his time in exile.

Mr. Borodin is widely listed as a billionaire, but his total wealth remains difficult to confirm accurately, with the governments of Switzerland and the Bahamas having been asked to help the Russian government in its legal case. In 2012, Borodin purchased the UK’s then-most expensive home, an 80-hectare 18th-century estate in Oxfordshire, for upwards of $217 million. In 2017 he was granted access to personal Swiss accounts holding a reported $378 million. The Amaryllis was purchased for a reported $120 million.

Mr. Borodin did not immediately respond to an emailed query from CorpGov , while the FBI declined to comment. An emailed query to The Department of Homeland Security was not returned.
