Exile yourself to this unique, beautifully situated Italian Island

Made famous as the place of exile for Napoleon in 1814, Elba is an island where many would love to be exiled today. A network of underground springs ensure the landscape is green and verdant, while a coastline packed with fantastic beaches and a mountainous backdrop makes it one of the most dazzling destinations in the Mediterranean .

Elba is the largest of the Tuscan archipelago situated in the blue of the Tyrrhenian Sea, which also includes Capraia, Pianosa, Montecristo, Giglio and Giannutri islets. It has a colourful history, with influences from many nationalities including Genoa, the Medici family, Spain, Turkey and also  France , which can be seen in its architecture and even cuisine. The yachting crowd turned up here in the 1950s but it has been kept a relatively well-kept secret for the discerning traveller, apart from the month of August which sees visitors in their droves coming in to enjoy the summer buzz.

More than 150 beaches line Elba’s coastline, each one different to the next. Some boast fine white sands, while others are rocky and rugged, but with so many to choose from it’s easy to find a secluded spot of paradise to soak up the sun and enjoy views over the waters and magnificent granite cliffs. The Marina di Campo beach is perfect for swimming, particularly with children, while Fetovaia, Seccheto (surrounded by smooth granite rocks) and Caoli in the south offer spectacular views.

Inland, the lush landscape ensures a haven for cyclists and some important cycling competitions are held on the island throughout the year. A popular path to follow is one in the southeast corner of the island which is dominated by Monte Calamita - an iron-rich mountain with a mix of asphalt and bumpy gravel tracks. The scent of wildflowers and Ginestra bushes in the warm Mediterranean sun is enough motivation to keep you going until you reach the top and enjoy the wonderful views.

Elba Yacht Charter

Elba is a beautiful island in the Tyrrhenian Sea in the Mediterranean and the best way to explore Elba and other nearby Italian yacht charter destinations is on a luxury sailing yacht or motor yacht. Elba is located just 20 kms away from the coastal town of Piombino in Tuscany, Italy. Elba is the largest island of the Tuscan archipelago and is one of the greenest and most beautiful islands in The Med. It is the third largest island in Italy and it also serves as a prominent national park in the region. The islands that are bigger than Elba are Sicily and Sardinia. The island of Elba is the largest remaining stretch of land from the ancient tract that once connected the Italian peninsula to Corsica. The northern coast of Elba faces the Ligurian Sea, the eastern coast the Piombino Channel, the southern coast the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Corsica channel divides the western tip of the Island from neighbouring Corsica.

The island of Elba has about 30,000 inhabitants.  The central part of Elba is a flat section and it is just 4 kms wide. Here you can find the major centres of Portoferraio and Campo nell'Elba. You can see the oldest part of the island towards the east. The hilly area is dominated by deposits of iron that has been formed from the mantle below the surface due to volcanic activities.

THE AVIOSAIL TEAM

Stefano, Aviosail’s owner, is a yachtsman of great experience with a deep love for the sea. After successfully competing for several years, in 2005 he went on to become a technician for a charter company based on Elba. In 2007 he crossed the Atlantic Ocean aboard “Ipero”, a Baltic 83 yacht owned by his friend Flavio Scala, a former Agneta helmsman. Since 2009, he’s been the proprietor’s of Aviosail.

Alice, a Natural Science graduate, is always at Stefano’s side on board Aviosail boats both as a hostess and as an environmental hiking guide officially recognised by the Tuscany Region and the Tuscan Archipelago National Park. In addition to preparing excellent lunches, she will be able to introduce you to much more about Elba, the Tuscan Archipelago and the natural wonders of such places.

La mattina successiva escursione sui sentieri più belli con panorami mozzafiato, di diversa durata, a seconda del livello di difficoltà scelti in anticipo, con partenza  ed arrivo in posti diversi, con la barca che vi attende al vostro arrivo. A richiesta c’è la possibilità di avere una esperta Guida Parco dell’Arcipelago Toscano, che vi accompagnerà e vi farà scoprire le bellezze naturali di questi luoghi.                                                

 A vostra disposizione ci saranno skypper ed hostess, che vi prepareranno colazioni, pranzi , cene, ed aperitivi. Menù vari ma con sughi rigorosamente di pesce fresco preparati a bordo, e se possibile appena pescato. La tariffa è full inclusive, e comprende qualsiasi cosa escluso eventuali soste nei porti diversi da Portoferraio.

He is the owner of Aviosail and a very experienced sailor. He was born on the Island of Elba on 6/11/1960 and since he was a boy he proved to be very skilled in many sports, but sailing and the sea are his true passion. He began his journey on the island by participating in several winter championships. During this period he has the good fortune to meet the Shipowner Vincenzo Onorato, with whom he will train in the years to come. First, with the boat “Comte de Fiandre”, he won the Cointreau trophy at the Tigullio Winter Championships in 1989-1990, then he obtained other victories at the opening weeks of the Alassio regatta season. He becomes co-owner with the same Onorato of the boat “Ottone degli Ulivi” with which he took an excellent fifth place in the world class in 1990. He continues to obtain other important victories first aboard the Swan 46 “” Charlotte aybea “then with” Flamenco aybea “, participating in the winter championships of Punta Ala and the weeks of the mouths in Costa Smeralda. In 1996 he won the European championship Sardinia Cup with the role of trimmer on the Zzenzero boat. He then decides to switch to the vintage boats circuit, competing for 9 consecutive years aboard the “Agneta” boat owned by Avv. Giovanni Agnelli, before moving on to the “Samurai” boat of the Pavesi brothers. He trains with Giovanni Soldini in the waters of Elba aboard the trimaran “Telecom” and participates in the Match Race in France aboard the Jeanneau. In 2005 he starts working on the Island of Elba as a technician for a charter company; in 2007 he crosses the Atlantic Ocean on board or “Ipero”, a Baltic 83 “owned by his friend Flavio Scala, former helmsman of Agneta. Since 2009 he has been the owner of Aviosail with which he realizes weekly charters. His profound experience, his skill and professionalism are a guarantee for those who decide to rely on Aviosail and for those who want to know the world of sailing.

He was born on the Island of Elba on 12/14/1985 and has always had a great passion for the sea and for nature. At the age of 15, he had his first experience sailing around the Tuscan Archipelago and Corsica. He moved to Florence where he graduated in 2010 in “Natural Sciences” and in 2013 he also obtained the specialist degree in “Conservation and management of nature” with full marks. Participate in various scientific projects of cetacean sighting on a sailing boat in the Tuscan Archipelago. The great love for her island and for the sea brought her back to Portoferraio, where, since 2013, she has always been at Stefano’s side aboard the Aviosail boats as hostess and as an environmental excursion guide officially recognized by the Tuscany Region and the Tuscan Archipelago National Park. . In addition to preparing excellent lunches, he will be able to introduce you to much more about the Island of Elba, the Tuscan Archipelago and the natural wonders of these places.

APRIL, MAY, JUNE, SEPTEMBER AND OCTOBER.

Various boarding options either from Portoferraio, San Vincenzo or Piombino (Salivoli). Departure is usually in the evening around 6 pm, then off en route towards our planned destination (Elba, Capraia, Corsica or Giglio) either by sailing or motor navigation in case of light wind, anchorage at the picked roadstead or port. The following morning, time for an excursion along the most beautiful trails with breathtaking views; choice of different length itineraries according to your preferred level of difficulty, setting off from one place and arriving to another where our boat will be waiting for you. On request, possibility of bringing along an expert Park Guide of the Tuscan Archipelago who will lead you to discover the natural beauty of such places.                                                

Both a skipper and a hostess will be on board at your service and take care of breakfast, lunch,  dinner and aperitifs. The food menu will be varied and include fresh fish sauces prepared on board using catch of the day whenever possible. Prices are all inclusive, and comprehend everything except stops in any port other than Portoferraio.

Sailing-kayaking.

Our sailing and Kayak package is designated for sports and sea lovers. Departure is from Portoferraio towards Capraia, sailing through the Cetacean Sanctuary. A few hours later, time for our first excursion by kayak, ride that in the following days will take us also to Cala Rossa (red cove), Capraia’s characteristic southern end.

Did you know Horizon’s charters start and finish at noon? This means we can get you out sailing your first afternoon after your briefings – remember to watch your video briefings to speed up your check out! At the end of your trip, you sail back to Nanny Cay to refuel and debrief before your noon departure. This gives you a full 6 nights/7 days chartering around our beautiful islands, unlike some companies that start at 5pm, meaning you will have to sleepaboard* at the docks, and then finish at 10am, again meaning you will probably have to stay overnight on the docks the night before you leave to fly home.

*If available, a sleep aboard can be added the night before your charter start for a small supplement, boarding your yacht after 5pm.

Our standard charter rates are applicable for charters of 5 days or more up to a maximum of five weeks. For a tailored quote for charter durations outside this range please contact our reservations team who will be pleased to assits.

Yacht photographs and specifications act as a guide and are for information purposes only.  Although we endeavour to ensure that images are accurate reflections of the yachts in our fleet, certain aspects may vary slightly, such as yacht deck, the colour of the hull, dodger or bimini.

All yachts come with rigid inflatables & outboards, biminis, BBQ, Stereo, GPS, linens, towels, safety & galley equipment etc. See  What’s Included  for a full list.

*Additional $700 supplement per week applies from Dec 18 – Jan 4

May we advise that HDW insurance, Cruising Permits and National Parks Permit are payable before departure from the dock in cash or travellers’ cheques, as using a Credit Card will incur a 5% surcharge. Upon return of the vessel, you are required to top off the water and fuel tanks, which you receive full upon boarding the vessel.

BVI Charter Rates shown above are for 6 nights per vessel (min 5 nights except for Christmas and New Year min 7 nights + supplements on selected yachts) with the additional daily rate should you wish to add nights. BVI Charters start and finish at noon. Sleep-aboard (the option of staying on board your yacht at the dock) with the boarding of your vessel available after 5.00 pm, can sometimes be added to the start of your charter at an extra charge of $75.00 per head per night (minimum of $200.00 per night), depending upon yacht availability.

• Hull Damage Waiver Insurance is compulsory for $60.00 (max $600) per day for Monohulls and $70.00 (max $700) per day for Catamarans. Security deposit is $2000 for monohulls and cats 41ft and under, and $5000 for cats 42ft plus. This limits your liability to the security deposit (either $2000 or $5000) per incident relating to the yacht and 3% of hull value per incident if in contravention of the Client Responsibility Agreement or the Charter Contract.
• Skippers  are available from $225.00 per day, Instructors from $275.00 per day and Cooks from $225.00 per day (plus food and gratuity).
• Provisioning – Please refer to our  provisioning page  for more information.
• Windsurfing, kayaks, hammock rentals, SCUBA gear or other water sports  are all available at competitive rates.  Click here for more information.

An Environmental levy of $10 per head is payable by all visitors to the BVI on arrival (effective 1st Sept 2017).

Bookings and Cancellations – We require a 50% deposit to confirm the reservation and the balance due of 50% should be received by Horizon Yacht Charters no later than 45 days prior to the charter start date. A full refund less a $200.00 administration fee is given should the reservation be cancelled in writing up to 90 days prior to the charter start date. If the charter is cancelled within 90 days of the charter start date, then a full refund (less $200.00) is made subject to Horizon Yacht Charters reselling the charter space reserved.

Make your charter yacht vacation a breeze – enjoy the comfort of being able to tie up your yacht for the night and then continue exploring the surrounding bays! You can pick up your mooring ball at the Bight and then head to the Indians or the Caves for a snorkel. If you visit the Dogs, there’s no need to choose only one snorkel spot for your lunch stop, zip around them all!  A swim ladder makes boarding easy from the water.

For popular spots where it’s trickier to find a mooring, the RIB is the perfect alternative. Settle into Great Harbour, Jost Van Dyke for the night and then take the RIB to White Bay for the afternoon to enjoy painkillers without the hassle of finding a mooring ball or having to move your yacht for the night.

The North Sound boasts a selection of some of the best dining options in the BVI. There’s no need to settle for only one spot when you have the RIB. Pick up provisions from Leverick Bay, enjoy the plunge pool at Nova in Deep Bay, and then zip back to the sound for sundowners at Saba Rock before enjoying dinner at The Bitter End.

If you have a mix of snorkelers, beachgoers, shoppers and sailors onboard then give your group flexibility by taking the standard dinghy included in your charter as well. This will also remove the need to make multiple dinghy trips ashore for larger groups.

Elba, die grösste Insel im Toskanischen Archipel bietet Ihnen sechs große Golfe mit verlockenden Ankerbuchten vor weißen Stränden. Nicht umsonst wird Elba im Küstenhandbuch der Britischen Admiralität nach der Devise "hier bin ich König, hier darf ich es sein" (Napoleon), als die "grösste, reichste und schönste Insel des Archipels " beschrieben.

Klima und Segelbedingungen

Elba hat ganzjährig ein mildes Mittelmeerklima ohne große Extreme. Das Wasser lädt von Mai bis Mitte Oktober zum Baden ein. Die vorherrschende Windrichtung im Sommer ist Nordwest. Der Scirocco (Südostwind) bläst häufiger im Frühjahr und im Herbst. Im Sommer erreicht der Wind selten über vier Beaufort. Im April und Oktober kann es auch mal mehr sein.

Erreichbarkeit

Elba, die drittgrößte Insel Italiens, ist nur 10 km vom italienischen Festland entfernt. Sie ist mit dem Flugzeug - direkt, über Pisa oder Florenz mit Shuttle-Transfer nach Piombino und anschließender Überfahrt mit der Fähre - gut zu erreichen. Mit dem Auto reist man zum größten Teil über mehrspurige Autobahnen bis nach Piombino. Die Fähre bringt Sie von dort in einer Stunde auf die Insel.

2019 Fountaine Pajot – Helia 44 (Carpe Aura)

This fully loaded Helia 44 is ready for use. Comes with a Zodiac 12-foot tender and a new 25hp Yamaha outboard. This Helia comes with several upgrades which include the extra cockpit fridge, cockpit ice machine, double drawer fridge freezer in the salon, extra fridge in the galley, microwave, cooktop, oven, BBQ, Bose surround sound, fusion marine stereo system, water maker, WI FI system, All new duvets and linens, paddleboard, paddle board holders, dishes, cooking equipment and more.

Vessel is also set up with automatic fire suppression systems in the engine spaces, offshore life jackets, Propane detectors, dual propane storage locker with 20 20lb tanks, 2 boarding ladders, extra toilet pumps, filters, belts, mounts and other fittings as back up when needed.

The water maker is operational, and engines all fully serviced. All owners? manuals are included, and USA customs is paid. Vessel also has dodgers, sunshade for the salon, cockpits and all cushions in and out. Sails in great condition and includes a code zero sail.

This vessel is priced to sell quick and will not last. viewings available. For an additional fee a company for chartering in the British Virgin Islands could also be added to the sale.
