66 Astondoa Yacht Walkthrough [Boat Review + Video]

Take an extensive tour of the 66′ astondoa [lebrada] in miami, fl with will noftsinger..

This article is a transcription of the 66′ Astondoa video from Denison’s Youtube Channel . Tune in daily to discover the latest yacht video walkthroughs from the world’s largest yacht video collection. Watch the full video below:

Astondoa yachts has been building boats for over a hundred years. They’ve got 4 generations of expertise under their belt. This one is a 2020 66 that’s named LEBRADA . We’re going to show you guys around, give you an idea of what makes them so unique and all the cool features that you find strictly on an Astondoa.

I’m Will Noftsinger with Denison Yachting, welcome aboard LEBRADA . As we walk through the boat, I think you’re going to see that Astondoa builds really quality products. She features 1350 Volvo IPSs, three docking stations and even has a seakeeper 9. The 66 Astondoa carries a 17-foot beam in just a 4-9 draft making her one of the shallowest drafts for her category. Due to some inclement weather, we weren’t able to get you guys the proper running footage. But I could attest to this being one of the most stable boats offshore in a rough sea that I’m going to find for a 66-footer.

Up here on the flybridge, Astondoa did a great job of keeping the sporty look as you can see by some of our cushions but with a practical elegance where everything seems to flow nicely. In the aft section, currently you see it in a flat sunpad but you’ve got chase style so you can pop it up and have a nice back rest.

66' Astondoa 2020

As we move forward from the sunpad, we’ve got a little shower here which comes in handy when it’s really really hot and that takes us into the formal outdoor dining area here. And as we continue forward from there, we come to one of the more unique features on this yacht, the louvered sunroof overhead. So both areas can have nice sunlight should you wish. You bought a flybridge boat because you want an awesome flybridge and some of the most important features are having things like a real summer kitchen here.

So you can cook everything you need with a grill, a refrigerator, a wet bar, ice maker – everything you need to service this entire space is found here. Just in front of that dining area, here to starboard, we’ve got a nice lounging space for two or three people. And then here to port, we’ve got our sporty captain seats. Just in front of that our console, it’s black so you don’t have bad reflection. Then we’ve got all our controls, Volvo throttles, joystick and bow thruster controls. It’s also nice that this will drop down and conceal your Garmin unit keeping it out of the elements.

66' Astondoa 2020

Just took the stairs from the helm down here to the cockpit, this aft deck space is excellent. It’s got a lot of unique features that sets it apart from the competition, one of them being how this is configurable in the dining position like you see now or it lays flat and gives you a great sunpad.

Another nice aspect back here is this shade that drops down. It gives you a little bit more protection from the sun and also an extra element of privacy. The docking station here on the port side is the last thing I’ll point out for the cockpit. Here, you’ve got all the instruments that you’re going to need when it comes to docking and great visibility.

The 66 was set up with the Euro-style transom. We’ve got access down to the swim platform both the port and starboard. Stepping down here, we get to our hydraulic swim platform. So you can easily take a tender and drop it in and out of the water. And on the starboard side, the controls for that swim platform.

66' Astondoa 2020

Let’s go check out the foredeck next. But as we head up there, there’s a couple of things that stand out. We’ve got really nice gunnels, so extra protection to feel safe. And a little bit more protection from the elements overhead as you walk forward. You got access to the helm station through an electronic door, easy access for a docking situation and then we’ll continue up and check out what everybody wants on a yacht like this these days.

Nice seating area that’s coupled with a sunpad, shade from this little clamshell awning so you get the best of boat worlds and more entertainment than you used to get on older models. Rounding out this space, it’s also home to all of our ground tackle. So we’ve got our windlass here with foot controls and great visibility from both helm stations when you’re doing it.

66' Astondoa 2020

I can’t emphasize enough how awesome it is to have a galley aft. It’s probably my favorite configuration on a yacht. When you see what it does from a service standpoint having a refrigerator right here between the two places you spend most, it’s awesome.

Everything in this boat is built by Miele as far as appliances go. And if you check it out, we’ve got a full-size refrigerator, freezer underneath, cooktop, microwave sink, an excellent woodwork package in a yacht this size having a dishwasher, pretty rare.

66' Astondoa 2020

The other great thing about having a galley with this configuration is nothing feels like it’s on top of itself which most boats when they’re all on one side do. Here, we’ve got a nice wine cooler, tons of storage and a great coffee bar slash prep area, so whenever you guys cook that nice meal or when you wake up in the morning, you’ve got enough space to feel comfortable.

The other nice thing about a galley aft and especially how Astondoa did it is that it flows super nicely into your salon. So here, we’ve got opposite facing sofas, gives you a great conversation pit makes a perfect movie night with the TV when it pops up here, massive windows that make you really connect with the sea that surrounds you which is important when it comes to owning a yacht.

66' Astondoa 2020

And this is your indoor formal dining. It folds open, has storage beneath. Just forward of this, we’ve got the helm. One of the more exciting features onboard any yacht, these diamond-stitched leather chairs face a really cool floating monitor setup that feels very futuristic almost spaceship-like. Big windows, able to see back on the corners, the boat’s visibility forward – excellent.

It’s a joy to drive this, especially doing 32-knots. So on this super cool display, you’ve got your ship system that’s from Astondoa and it shows you everything you’re going to want to know about your fuel tanks, how everything’s running in the boat. Just behind that we got our compass, our throttles, our IPS controls making it super easy to dock and a bow thruster in front just in case you need extra.

66' Astondoa 2020

From the salon let’s head down the staircase to the lower level accommodations. First, we’re going to head forward and check out the VIP. When you step inside, you’ve got a full walkaround queen-size berth centerline and all the features you would expect to find in a home that was built yesterday including USB ports to easily charge your phone.

There’s also an ensuite that leaves nothing to be desired as far as the core and size. All the fittings and fixtures are evidently super nice, well-built, high-end, just like you’d expect to find a yacht of this caliber.

66' Astondoa 2020

As we head aft, right here where the staircase ends, there’s a dayhead which is convenient so nobody has to go through a stateroom should they need to use it. This connects to one of two guest staterooms. We’ll head there next. It’s surprisingly large for a yacht that’s 66-feet when you carry 4 staterooms. It features a side-by-side berth configuration that face forward where you have a TV and a full-size closet.

As you walk aft here on the port side is the third guest stateroom. This stateroom is well placed. If you have small children, so you have quick access to them from the master which we’re going to head to next.

66' Astondoa 2020

Stepping inside the master yields a full-beam with huge windows. The reason we’re able to configure 4 staterooms in a yacht this size and have all of them functional is because of those Volvo IPSs. Not only do they give you the ease of docking and maneuverability but huge space inside, especially here in the master stateroom.

Flat-screen on the wall, a nice settee that’s positioned under the window, awesome for reading a book, full-size closet. And it’s a really cool mood change when you step back into the head. So back here, it feels like you stepped into a spa and I know that sounds cliche but I think especially as you transition from the darker woods into this lighter, it just makes you feel like you went into a completely different space.

From here, we’re going to head back upstairs through the salon and galley down to the crew quarters. The configuration is actually really good for a boat this size offering two beds, a full walk-in head with shower and glass door and even handy access into the engine room which is great when you have a captain onboard.

66' Astondoa 2020

Moving inside, you have almost 6-and-a-half feet of headroom is incredible. Down here we have our Volvo 1350 pods capable of propelling this boat at 32 plus knots. Forward and centerline here in the engine room you’ll see our seakeeper 9.

And here on the port side, we’ve got our Cummins Onan generator coming in at 21.5 kw. When we see trial this boat, it was in good size 5-footers and the boat performed incredible, especially with that seakeeper 9.

It’s a pleasure having you onboard and checking out the 66 Astondoa. Again I’m Will Noftsinger with Denison Yachting, if you’ve got any questions, would like to set up a showing or need more information, contact me or my wife Karie anytime. Thanks for joining us.

Astondoa - Quality Boat For the Med?

  • Thread starter lambohill

Hi All, Anyone have an opinion on / experience of, Astondoa, particularly their 46 and 52 flybridges at 1999 to 2004? It would appear that as seemingly quality builder of azimut/princess/fairline type standard (?) they appear to be a good alternative on the med, and available at Spanish values rather than uk values, a little like azimut at Italian values rather than British boats / uk values? Opinions appreciated as considering this road... Thanks!

Well-known member

very well built, loads near me, nearly bought one, inside can be a bit too "spanish" in taste for me but easily toned down. 74ps, big engine bay/lazarette, you can get at everything easily. electronics often raymarine lots to like, only negative is 'flybridge on 46 doesn't have a sunpad, 52's can be a bargain. seem to sell well in Spain but if you bring one to UK might be hard to sell on later as not known in UK

Thanks for reply. I agree with your Spanish feel. However I would intend a refit of upholstery , sofas, carpets , etc , which would bring the aesthetic up to date. It appears that they might represent value even compared to azimut and particularly when compared to fairline or princess of similar size, year and engines. I am thinking of med use so uk resale would not be an issue. In essence do you feel they are similar, just Spanish?

  • 28 Sep 2013

I think they are similar in quality to fairline etc. some here may not agree though. the hull and furniture is made in Santa Pola but the engines, props etc come from just the same people as other boat manufacturers. you can get astondoa 46's for a lot less than a fairline 46. the difference would allow a serious re-upholstery and a lot of diesel. the downstairs galley is a bit small but I find I rarely use the inside galley in the med, also the cockpit on the as46 is bigger than the phantom 46 which is probably where you will spend more time.

I think the astondoa 46 cabin layout is probably better than the fairline 46 or its bigger italian option, the azimut46. as it provides the third cabin as two singles rather than bunks. But doesn't appear to be a crew cabin on the as46, presumably decent lazarette instead which is fine. Fair point about the fly on the 46. The astondoa 52 however looks like superb boat for the current market-money, and has the layout expected at c.50feet, with three cabins and a large twin bed crew. Engines as you say are same on all the 46 footers and again same story on the 52 with any equal size boat. Flybridge looks large, however the social round seating may not make best use of space compared to more current square designs, but with some modern fabrics I feel could be transformed. Do you or others know of any common issues with the astondoa 52?

There is also a small crew cabin as well. The flybridge is as large as you'll find on any 46 footer too Click to expand...

Ferretti 46s loose a bit of price, main reason is that they are a bit slow with the 435hp Cats, 28 knots max? May be Mike can tell us more.... I think you can have these at fairly decent prices and Fairline 46 Phantom, Azimut 46 levels, if you negotiate a bit... The 480 on the other hand keep their prices quite well, due to the bigger 600hp MAN engines. For this you are nearly at 53 levels.... As for Astondoa I sold a 46 from 2002 to a client from Venice a few years back and I cannot say there was any quality issues in the surveys, the client upgraded to the new 52 later renamed the 55. A view on one in Genoa in 2000 also showed good quality, and I agree I like the more family orientated layout.

PowerYachtBlog said: Ferretti 46s loose a bit of price, main reason is that they are a bit slow with the 435hp Cats, 28 knots max? May be Mike can tell us more.... Click to expand...

It is difficult to compare used boats of this age as the asking prices vary considerably and they appear to offer little guidance, the advice I may gather above indicates that it might seem prudent to aim for the highest quality boat I like, and as you say make a reasoned offer and keep trying until someone bites. It appeared to me that astondoa sellers were generally asking less for comparable models, however there is no pattern, and if sellers of other arguably higher end craft can be negotiated, then that might be interesting... A quick study of ferretti examples indicates that a couple of Ferretti 480's are be offered at considerably less than asking prices for ferretti 46's, so I guess that in the med with so many boats for sale, it should at least in theory be possible to test a wide market. With regard in particular to the fly access on the 46 / 480, it appears on the face of it perhaps more difficult to access than stairs, although it is double access and uses less floor space. How did you like it? Thanks

Yes, I can see the advantage of the floorspace being free and the 'patio doors' being full width for light is definitely a plus. I expect this internal access layout is fairly unique at this length. I was thinking is may be a bit tricky to carry stuff up, but I guess the reduced number of steps helps. I see the crew cabin is on the portside as opposed to the stern, again a slightly different arrangement perhaps due to beam allowance and engine positions further back. Overall I like the Ferretti look , as it appears quite different from others and is quite distinctive / robust in aesthetic.

Thanks, that's been very informative, and I will need to arrange to view one and include as part of my search. It will be interesting to see how the actual offer / buying process works out in this market and I look forward to it! I will also take a close look on board astondoa as there are a few up for sale in next travel vicinity, and check these out too, as all options need to be explored and it is most useful to get opinions of both those who have owned, and those who have brokered / or experience off / viewed examples. Trip after can be to the italian side, unless I can find suitable examples to see on same one.

Electric boats

Electric boat, halevai looks to further electrify the marine segment with its american-made long-range boat.

Avatar for Scooter Doll

Young electric boat maker Halevai is on the cusp of production of its flagship model, 2050, which promises some of the best range and power in a blossoming sustainable marine industry. This locally built recreational vessel was designed for safety and performance to provide customers with “the most technologically advanced on-board experience.”

Halevai is a concept boat manufacturer founded in 2020 that combines its expertise in engineering, design, and conservation to try and build the safest, renewable, and cost-efficient electric boats ever made.

For the last four years, Halevai has worked under the radar in research and development to achieve said goal, recruiting trusted partners in the industry, such as Hyper Craft, Mercury Marine , and Navico Group. By utilizing the powertrain and motor technology through scalable partnerships with those marine industry veterans, Halevai believes it can deliver an electric boat that offers the most power at the best price. Per its website:

The American marine landscape is vast and diverse. None of the work we are doing at Halevai is possible without the clear understanding that we must and we will protect the life support system of our planet. Whether we are in a mountain lake, an inlet, a bay or in the open ocean we are connected to the life force of this planet, our ocean. We have a responsibility to protect and communicate with each other and find new ways to boat more responsibly.

The culmination of this R&D is Halevai’s flagship vessel – the Model2050. This 24-foot recreational boat looks like an impressive start and will soon be available to customers looking to navigate waters without all those nasty carbon emissions.

Halevai Model2050 electric boat to begin production soon

Halevai recently launched the Model2050 as its first all-electric vessel available for sale. This 24-foot all-electric boat features a fiberglass-infused E-QXCFM 3515 hull, housing a 60 or 120-kWh marine-grade battery pack and room for ten passengers.

Combined with a Mercury Alpha 1 Gen 2 drivetrain creating 300 hp, Halevai’s Model2050 electric boat delivers a cruising speed of 25 mph and a top speed of 35+ mph, promising up to 50 nautical miles of range on a charge (standard pack). The vessel has a 6.6 kW onboard charger and an optional 30/40/50 amp charging station.

Other features include a customized 12-inch navigation screen, a high-power surround sound system, keyless startup, and three select drive modes.

Halevai recognizes that current boat-building practices need to be cleaner, circular, or sustainable but is committed to leading the movement. The Model2050 is equipped with 100% organic cork flooring, including its 26″ swim deck in the rear.

Halevai’s Model2050 electric boat will commence production this summer at its new White Bluff, Tennessee facility. 35 initial builds are slated for 2024, equating to one or two boats per week. The American-made vessels start at a base price of 185,000. Here’s a better look at the boat in action.

Baltimore Key Bridge collapse

March 27, 2024 - Baltimore Key Bridge collapse

By Kathleen Magramo , Antoinette Radford, Alisha Ebrahimji , Maureen Chowdhury , Elise Hammond , Tori B. Powell and Aditi Sangal , CNN

Our live coverage of the Baltimore bridge collapse has moved here .

Here's what you should know about the Key Bridge collapse

From CNN staff

A Marine Emergency Team boat passes the wreckage of the Dali cargo vessel in Baltimore on Tuesday.

Officials recovered the bodies of two construction workers who were on Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge when it collapsed early Tuesday morning after a 984-foot-long cargo ship collided into a pillar.

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore called the collapse Wednesday " a global crisis ."

"The national economy and the world's economy depends on the Port of Baltimore. The port handles more cars and more farm equipment than any other port in the country," Moore said.

Here's what you should know:

  • The victims: The six people who are presumed dead were from Mexico Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras, according to Col. Roland L. Butler Jr, the superintendent of Maryland State Police. Two bodies were recovered and have been identified as Alejandro Hernandez Fuentes from Mexico and Dorlian Ronial Castillo Cabrera from Guatemala. The two workers were filling potholes on the bridge and were later found trapped in a red pickup truck in about 25 feet of water, Butler said. The FBI is handling notifying the victims' families, Butler said.
  • Recovery efforts: Authorities are pausing search efforts for the four other workers who are presumed dead, because additional vehicles are encased in concrete and other debris, making it unsafe for divers, Butler said. Once salvage operations clear the debris, divers will search for more remains, he said.
  • The investigation: The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation into the fatal incident, according to the agency's chair Jennifer Homendy. During a Wednesday news conference, Homendy said there were 21 crew members and two pilots on board the Dali cargo ship when it crashed into the bridge. She also said a senior NTSB hazmat investigator identified 56 containers of hazardous material, and that some containers are in the water. The agency received six hours of voyage data from the ship and the investigation could take 12 to 24 months to complete, Homendy said. She emphasized that NTSB will not analyze information collected or provide conclusions while on scene of the collapse.
  • Looking forward: Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said rebuilding the bridge will not be "quick or easy" but that it will get done. He said there are four main focus points ahead: reopening the port, dealing with supply chain issues until its reopening, rebuilding the bridge and dealing with traffic issues until the bridge is rebuilt. Biden  pledged the full support  of the federal government in the response and recovery efforts. His administration has already conveyed a sense of urgency to open up federal funding to remove debris and ultimately rebuild the bridge. Maryland has submitted a request to the Biden administration for emergency relief funds "to assist in our work going forward," Moore said Wednesday.

It's almost impossible to place people on the bow of ship due to the unstable structure, fire official says

 From CNN's Sarah Engel

Baltimore City Fire Chief James Wallace said Wednesday that the cargo ship's bridge structure and containers at the bow remain unstable.

"It's going to be very difficult, if not impossible, and very dangerous, to place people on the bow of that boat right now," Wallace told CNN's Kaitlan Collins.

"Naturally, we're still very cognizant of the fact that there are hazardous materials on board the vessel itself," Wallace said, alluding to the National Transportation Safety Board saying earlier that 56 containers were carrying hazardous materials.

Wallace said his team is relying heavily on aerial recognizance, including drones. "That's the only way we're able to see in," he said.

He added that the aerial surveillance has "been able to really assure us right now we have no [chemical] reactions on board."

"It's just utter devastation," NTSB chief says of the bridge collapse site

From CNN's Aditi Sangal

Jennifer Homendy, chair of the National Transportation Safety Board, called the site of the Key Bridge collapse "devastating."

"It's pretty devastating, certainly, seeing not just what's going on with the cargo containers, but just looking at what was a bridge span — three bridge spans that is pretty much gone. It's just utter devastation," she said at Wednesday evening's news briefing.

She added that she is thinking of families who lost loved ones and those who are waiting to reunite with their lived ones.

NTSB interviewed the Dali's captain and some other crew members today, agency chief says

The National Transportation Safety Board has interviewed the ship's captain, his mate, the chief engineer and one other engineer today, according to Chair Jennifer Homendy.

The two pilots on board the Dali at the time of collision will be interviewed tomorrow, she added.

Cargo ship's voyage data recorder is basic when compared to an airplane's, NTSB chair says

From CNN's Tori B. Powell

The voyage data recorder on the cargo ship Dali was a "newer model" but is considered basic when compared to that on an airplane, according to National Transportation Safety Board Chair Jennifer Homendy.

"But it is very basic compared to say, a flight data recorder, where we would have 1,000 parameters," she said at a news conference on Wednesday.

The NTSB chief investigator Marcel Muise added:

"It's not a ship-wide system recorder, so most of the sensors that are being recorded are from the bridge. So things like GPS, the audio, rudder feedback, rudder commands are recorded on there. But not engineering, the temperature of each cylinder, power distribution sensors."

There were no tug boats with Dali at the time of the collision. That's normal, NTSB chief says

People look at the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge while visiting Fort McHenry in Baltimore on Wednesday.

There were no tugs with Dali when the cargo vessel collided with Baltimore's Key Bridge, which is normal protocol, according to National Transportation Safety Board Chair Jennifer Homendy.

Remember: At 01:26:39 on Tuesday, Dali's pilot made a general very high frequency (VHF) radio call for tugs in the vicinity to assist, the NTSB investigator Marcel Muise had said.

"The tugs help the vessel leave the dock, leave the port and get into the main ship channel. And then they leave. Once it's on its way, it's a straight shot through the channel. So there are no tugs with the vessel at the time. So they were calling for tugs," she said.

NTSB chair says she saw some containers that were carrying hazardous materials in the water

National Transportation Safety Board Chair Jennifer Homendy said she did see some of the 56 containers that were carrying hazardous materials in the water.

When asked how many

When asked how many containers of hazardous materials were in the water, Homendy said:

"I did see some containers in the water, and some breached significantly on the vessel itself," she said. "I don't have an exact number, but it's something that we can provide in an update."

Homendy said that a preliminary report should be out in two to four weeks.

This post has been updated with more quotes from Homendy.

Bridge did not have any redundancy, unlike the preferred method for building bridges today, NTSB chair says

Baltimore's Key Bridge did not have any redundancy, which is included in the preferred method of building bridges in the present day, according to National Transportation Safety Board Chair Jennifer Homendy.

"The bridge is a fracture critical," she explained. "What that means is if a member fails that would likely cause a portion of, or the entire bridge, to collapse, there's no redundancy. The preferred method for building bridges today is that there is redundancy built in, whether that's transmitting loads to another member or some sort of structural redundancy. This bridge did not have redundancy," Homendy said.

There are 17,468 fracture critical bridges in the United States out of 615,000 bridges total, she said, citing the Federal Highway Administration.
