BARBARA features a distinctive layout split over six decks and an elegant, sweeping curved exterior, making extensive use of structural glass. With interior and exterior design by the renowned Sam Sorgiovanni, the versatile living area, comprises of deck spaces that easily convert into entertainment areas with a vast 'wellness' centre on the sundeck, complete with jacuzzi, fully equipped gym and a large sunbed relaxation area. The lower deck boasts a well-equipped massage and beauty salon and a generously sized cinema.

The extensive accommodation on board comprises a unique split owner's suite with stunning ocean vistas and an impressive double height study complete with port and starboard folding balconies and double height glass sliding doors. There is a double guest cabin on the upper deck, four guest cabins and a convertible full beam VIP cabin located on the main deck. Other standout features include a remarkable teak and steel sculpture that envelops the large guest elevator, a spectacular aquarium made to mirror an aquatic reef, an outdoor cinema on the sun deck and a huge lazarette ideal for a watersports enthusiast.

The Barbara yacht interior is the epitome of class and comfort. The clean lines and attention to detail are second to none.

The color scheme and layout are highly inspired by nature, with rich and elegant wood finishes and circular architectural styles that add a luxurious spa feel to the space.

The design has a very open feel with enormous glass doors that allow a flow of fresh air throughout the vessel’s interior from its gorgeous balconies. As a result, she truly feels like a luxury resort of the sea.

Additional nature-derived design features include an aquarium separating the formal dining and bar area, sea urchin and duck shell inlays adorned on mirror frames and recliner seats, and water buffalo horn pulls on doors and cabinets.

BARBARA’s amenities include an indoor and outdoor cinema, a helipad, a private spa pool, an observation deck, a dance floor in the bar area, a massage room, and a full gym, as well as a garage filled with tenders and jet skis.

Spending her summers in the Mediterranean and winters in the tropical Caribbean, the 290.4' (88.5m) BARBARA makes the perfect base for an exquisite charter vacation. A pedigree superyacht from Oceanco launched in 2017, BARBARA was custom-built for world-class charters offering spacious living, luxurious amenities, and a head-turning style.

Nature-inspired Interiors

Designed inside and out by the celebrated Australian designer Sam Sorgiovanni, BARBARA is a celebration of the natural world with interiors that blend fabric with woven leather, sustainably sourced timber, stone and wood grain finishes and a range of textures to create a relaxed resort-like feel. The stunning central staircase that winds its way around the glass elevator connecting all floors was inspired by the Monkey Forest of Bali, and an enormous aquarium in the dining area connects BARBARA to the teeming reefs of her tropical cruising grounds. Frog leather is one of the most unusual materials used on BARBARA and can be found on the bed frames, where smaller squares (each one formerly a frog) create a patchwork of deep browns—a sustainable by-product of the common frog eaten in Europe. Sea urchin dots frame mirrors and artwork, while water buffalo horn has been used to decorate bulkheads and cabinet fronts. Duck eggshells adorn the recliners in the yacht’s indoor cinema.

Outside, BARBARA’s exterior features flowing lines, swathes of black glass and a curved white superstructure to striking effect.

BARBARA offers the ultimate indoor/outdoor living with spectacular sliding doors and retractable balconies, blurring the lines between interior spaces and the world outside. The main deck salon is light-filled and luxurious, with the aquarium separating the living area from the formal dining room. There’s a stunning bar crafted from sustainable materials and as day turns to night, the ceilings of the salon slide open to reveal party lights as the crew clears the furniture to allow for dancing.

Space for more intimate lounging, dining and relaxation can be found on the upper deck.

At the end of a long day of water sports, site seeing or a tough workout in the onboard state-of-the-art gym, guests on BARBARA can indulge in a massage or a vigorous water jet shower in the spa to ease tired muscles.

Outside, BARBARA’s attractions are even more apparent. Deck spaces are vast with a myriad of alfresco dining, sunbathing and lounging options—from the expansive aft deck to the broad observation deck with sun loungers and sofas a stone’s throw from the gym.

There is also a Jacuzzi surrounded by sunpads perfect for relaxing and taking in the views or a midnight dip under the stars.

The helideck doubles as an outdoor cinema only rivalled by BARBARA’s incredible one indoors.

BARBARA offers tranquil havens for her 16 guests in eight opulent staterooms, including a palatial master suite with a central skylight and silk carpets mimicking retreating waves. The suite is completely private and incorporates an owner’s office with 11.5ft high ceilings, huge sliding doors and balconies that expand the space further. The glass bottom pool on the sundeck above sends light bouncing around the large room. There are a further seven staterooms—two if which have been classed as VIP cabins and four twins.

Entertainment

While there’s a wealth of entertainment on board, it would be a shame not to make the most of BARBARA’s formidable arsenal of toys and her custom Vikal tenders launched from the expansive beach club. There are Yamaha WaveRunners, SeaBobs, stand-up Jet Ski, windsurfers, paddleboards, and scuba diving equipment for 12.

That's because when she was first starting out, she was often the only woman among the all-male press corps. On the road covering the 1972 presidential campaign, Chung tended to retreat to her hotel room at night. She thought she was being responsible by prepping for the next day— then she noticed the male reporters were getting scoops that she was missing. "It suddenly dawned on me they were saucing up the campaign manager and everyone who worked for the candidate, and letting them spill the beans," Chung says. Chung began to go down to the bar at night, where, she says, drinking and jokes helped her to break into the press corps "boys club." Wisdom Watch Connie chung: on news, family, fighting with humor. "Therein lies a great way to learn how to be a reporter," she says. "I don't recommend it by any means. But at the time, I just had to find a way." In 1993, when Chung was named   co-anchor of CBS Evening News , she became the first Asian American — and second woman — to have the position. She says it was "pretty clear" that veteran newsman Dan Rather didn't want her there. "I don't blame him totally, because he had owned Walter Cronkite's chair for many years and had to move over a few inches to make room for me," she says. "And I do believe that had I been another man, had I been an animal, had I been a plant … he would not have wanted anyone to share that seat with him." Throughout her career, Chung was often one of the few Asian American newscasters on television. In 2020, Chung realized the impact she'd had on the community when a writer named Connie Wong reached out, telling her about a generation of immigrants who had named their baby girls after her. "There were these ... babies who were actually named 'Connie Chung' and then their last name," Chung says. "Honestly, I can't really embrace how gargantuan it is. It is profound." She wrote a letter. She faxed. She called. She nudged. She would say, "Let's have lunch." And I would call it, “Being Barbara’d.’ Barbara Walters forged a path for women in journalism, but not without paying a price Barbara and I had a lot in common. She was clearly the pioneer and paved our way. But she was the breadwinner in her family because her father's nightclubs tanked and she had to take care of her mother and her father, support her mother and her father and her disabled sister. I was the breadwinner in my family as well for my mother and father. I supported them till the day they died. From about 25 on, I was their parent. We both co-anchored with someone who despised us, a man. We were both fired after two years. We both adopted a child. We both married nice Jewish boys — although I think Barbara married maybe two or three. But I admired Barbara because she paved our way. On her marriage to Maury Povich I'm still wondering how come we are a perfect match, because we are so different. But the public personas belie what is really behind our door. ... He's a very down-to-earth, realistic guy. What belies his public persona is that he is very much a voracious reader. He's a political buff. He's a history buff. He could run circles around these pseudo-intellectuals who do interviews with important people. And I always say that to him: "Why don't you do a serious talk show? ...You're so smart and people would know how smart you are." And he says, "As long as you know that, I'm fine." And I thought, my goodness! What a guy. 'Maury' ends a 30-year-run, marking the closure of an era On being anti-social Maury and I stay home all the time. We’re so boring. If someone asks us to go have dinner, we have to think about it for a few months. … I'm the one who's even more anti-social in the sense that. I want to wash my face and take off my makeup and look scary. And I don't want anybody else seeing me looking scary. On the state of TV news today When I see [a bad] interview on television, I want to throw my shoe at it if somebody isn't asking the question, the next question that I would ask. ... I miss that that — the interviews and being able to dig deeper, but I also miss the joy of going after a story that's worthy. And I know it sounds really old-fashioned, but if I can change a government wrong or a change an attitude regarding social ills or whatever, something like that, I think it's so gratifying. On why she wrote her memoir I came across a letter from my father, and he had written it when I had already begun in the news business. … My parents were born in 1909 [and] in 1911, in old China, pre-communist China. They grew up with very traditional parents. My mother's feet were bound. Their marriage was arranged when she was only 12 and he was 14. They were married at 17 and 19. ... They had 10 — if you can believe it — children. I was the 10th, the only one born in the United States. They had nine children in China, five of whom died as infants. Three of those infants who died were boys. ... So they raised five very ballsy women. And I have to say that they all could have been CEOs or had different lives had they grown up in a different era. But ... my father gave me this mission. He said, "Maybe you can carry on the name Chung. Tell everybody how we came to the United States," meaning him and my four older sisters and my mother.
