Since 1941, Santa Monica Windjammers Yacht Club has been an established member-operated, family-focused, and sailing oriented private club in Marina Del Rey, CA. A lively club, SMWYC boasts a range of activities and benefits for all membership levels, including a robust junior sailing program, racing, food and beverage service, social gatherings, holiday parties, sailing lessons, and sailboat, kayak and paddle board fleets. 

A Membership Level for Everyone

Couples Flag

Includes membership for a full family along with use (upon certification) of the Small Boat Fleet for an additional $10 a month. In addition, this membership includes usage of our Paddling, Kayak and Bicycle Fleets. This membership class enjoys all rights and privileges, including holding office, serving as a Director, making full use of all Club facilities and racing under the Club's burgee.   

Individual Flag

Membership for an individual along with use (upon certification) of the Small Boat Fleet for an additional $10 a month. In addition, this membership includes usage of our Paddling, Kayak and Bicycle Fleets. This membership class enjoys all rights and privileges of Flag Membership but is limited to qualified individuals age twenty-one (21) or over who have no co-applicant indicated on their application.

Jr. Family Membership

For families with children who are active participants in the Junior Sailing Program. Families receive the benefits of membership, including member discounts on sail camps. Participation in the Small Boat Fleet is available for an additional charge.

This membership type is available for anyone who regularly participate in on-the-water activities, is a member or owner of a boat recognized by US Sailing, World Sailing, PHRF, Cruising Class or Fleet, subject to the approval of the Fleet Captain and Board of Directors. Participation in the Small Boat Fleet is available for an additional charge.

This membership class is available to qualified individuals between the ages of eighteen (18) years and thirty-five (35) years. Participation in the Small Boat Fleet is available for an additional charge.

First Responder

$360/annually. Billed Quarterly.

We love and support our military! This membership package is for our First Responders, Law Enforcement and all service members. Participation in the Small Boat Fleet is available for an additional charge.

For those individuals actively attending a University full time. Participation in the Small Boat Fleet is available for an additional charge..

$5/day, 7 day maximum.

If you are visiting, receive a day or week pass and access the numerous benefits. For families visiting the Los Angeles who reside outside of the County of Los Angeles. Participation in the Small Boat Fleet is available for an additional charge..

Please Note: If you sign up for a Membership class that does not include the usage of our Small Boat Fleet you are invited to change your membership anytime to either our all-inclusive Couples Flag or Individual Flag Membership class to reduce the administrative burden on office staff.

L.A. County approves new lease for Santa Monica Windjammers Yacht Club

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a short lease term to 2022, with two five-year extension options through March 31, 2032.

SANTA MONICA—The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a lease allowing the Santa Monica Windjammers Yacht Club to remain at their current location until at least 2022.

The Los County Board of Supervisors, at its Sept. 3 meeting, approved an amended and restated lease extending the lease term to March 31, 2022, and providing two five-year options to potentially extend the term to March 31, 2032. According to the terms, the two five-year options are contingent on county’s determination that continued occupancy of the premises by the lessee will not unreasonably interfere with any other county-approved use of the leased premises, for example, the contemplated enlargement of Burton Chace Park.

According to a board letter from County of Los Angeles Department of Beaches and Harbors Director Gary Jones, the relative short duration of the lease extension and five-year options are less than ideal for the club and even less appealing to any other potential tenant. He went on to say, nevertheless, the short durations are required by the county in order to best plan the future development of the premises and surrounding area.

The terms amend the 2008 lease so the county will no longer be required to pursue a replacement facility for SMYC upon expiration or termination of the lease. It also clarifies the respective responsibilities of the county and lessee regarding maintenance and repairs of the premises. All improvements on the premises and all alterations shall be owned by the county, expect the boat hoist. The yacht club will be fully and solely responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, and/or replacement of the hoist. The lease also states the lessee shall not make any improvement, modification, installation, or other alteration of, on, or to the premises, or any utility or other system serving the premises, without the prior written consent of county.

According to the lease agreement, the annual minimum rent will be $25,500 and the minimum monthly rent will be $2,125. The rental income received by the county from the lease is deposited into a special trust fund to be used for the annual operation, repair, maintenance and replacement of the Anchorage 47 docks and premises.

The Small Craft Harbor Commission unanimously endorsed the proposed lease at its Sept. 12, 2018, meeting.

The yacht club has been operating out of a portion of Parcel 47 in Marina del Rey since 1985. The property includes the clubhouse, a portion of its parking lot and a thirty-two mast-up dry boat storage facility. SMYC also operates a youth sailing program that is open to the public.

Nice people and good racing program. You don't have to have a boat to get involved in sailboat racing. They have a lot of programs and seminars for newcomers.

Great food! Nutella crepes are amazing too. The atmosphere is so welcoming and it's a very good service. I will absolutely come back!

I had my 50th Birthday Party in there and rented the dining room and their Patio area. Not only they were tremendously helpful with the set up and Bartender (great) but offered the bar area as well for my event. They are the only club that offers boats for the members to take out but also put the most sailboat races in the Sta Monica Area. For the cheapest price of a full club, the value is tremendous and I would recommend using it for parties and specially weddings, great sunset Views,(check their Facebook page)

Love the Windjammer's! The minute I walked in to go to my friends bday celebration, I felt like I was on a vacation and all my LA cares vanished. You have to check this club out. It's old school and welcoming and tons of fun!! Great place to host an event and throw a party. Let's go sailing :)

SMWYC needs a major overhaul. The club is lucky enough to have a gorgeous location in MDR, however, its decor has not been updated since 1970 and its 'all volunteer staff' does not return phone calls or emails in a timely manner... or at all. I joined SMWJ, was accepted, but was never notified of this acceptance... so I was paying for the 'luxury' of being a member of the club but not receiving any of the benefits. When I was finally notified, I had missed a full month of membership activities. Additionally, I explained that the main reason I was joining was for indoor paddleboard storage and was assured that this would be built by the time I was accepted; it was never built... thus I had no reason for membership as I do not sail and was not interested in any of the social activities. My friendly complaints fell on deaf ears; I was told that it was an all-volunteer organization so basically there was no time to answer me or build the racks. In my opinion, any members-only organization should SERVE and ACT in its members' best interest, volunteer or not... and never, ever make lame excuses.

I helped ring in a dear friend's birthday party at the club and had a great experience. Parking is easy, the staff is friendly and the drinks are strong. The view cannot be beat!

Felt like I was part of a special VIP event being here - fantastic space, incredible view - everyone who worked there was super cool yet professional. One of the most memorable parties I've been to in a while.

Santa Monica Windjammers Yacht Club is a scenic wedding venue located in Marina del Rey, California. Couples who choose this venue will have the opportunity to work with the property's on-site event coordinator in order to plan and implement a magical celebration. This waterfront retreat offers the use of all their facilities in order to ensure that couples receive the day they have envisioned. Multiple convenient amenities are available through this sun-filled, one-of-a-kind wedding and event venue.

Facilities and Capacity

The beautiful marina boasts multiple banquet halls that overlook the property's waterfront property. The rental of this private estate grants couples access to the entire facility. The club's second floor features a dining room with breathtaking views and a dancefloor with a smooth surface. This space is ideal for sit-down dinners and post-dinner reception parties. The yacht club is also home to The Patio, which is an intimate lounge area that grants views of Burton Chace Park. The Patio can host events with up to 40 guests in attendance. Ideal for cocktail hours and passed hors d'oeuvres, The Museum offers an intimate space with a capacity of up to 30 guests. Smaller rooms that can be used for wedding events include the Board Room and Race Room, which can hold 15 and 20 individuals, respectively. Santa Monica Windjammers Yacht Club is able to accommodate small and large affairs alike, as the venue can hold a maximum capacity of 270 guests.

Services Offered

The experienced event planner at the venue will provide couples with an array of rental options to choose from. Select rental packages offered by the club include craft cocktails and bar services. While the venue is able to provide catering and bar accommodations, the club also welcomes outside caterers to use the kitchen facilities on the property. When assistance with securing caterers and other vendors is needed, the staff at the association can connect couples with Tux Event Productions, which is a business that will organize any required wedding arrangements. On the day of the wedding, the staff can provide setup and cleanup services in order to ensure that couples remain focused on enjoying their special moments. Moreover, parking is available for wedding guests and the building is wheelchair accessible in order to accommodate couples' loved ones. This waterfront manor is happy to host the following wedding-related events:

The Super Bowl Charity regatta is open to all boats 25 feet long or less plus.  Each year skippers aged 7 to 70 + participate for a great cause in the largest open small boat regatta in Marina del Rey! There’s even  a SUP/Kayak harbor clean up for those who aren't racing!

• Three venues planned again this year for keelboats, sport boats, and every sort of dinghy!
• Paddle event for those not sailing.
• An RS Tera SoCal Highpoint Series event
• Great hospitality as always courtesy of Santa Monica Windjammers Yacht Club including a pizza party after racing, raffle prizes, silent auction and trophies.
