Virgin Islands Catamaran Charter Catsy

Meet the new crew.

The crew on the Virgin Islands catamaran charter Catsy knows their way around the Caribbean. Michael and Jennifer Lang have been charter crew in the islands for several years now, and are excited about their new season onboard Catsy.

They sent over some reflections about their first charter on board Catsy:

We just completed our first charter on Catsy in St. Maarten.  It was magical, to say the least.  Since we first arrived in the Caribbean we have admired the design of Catsy and are very proud to become her crew. Over the past three seasons, we have operated a total of 40 charters mostly in the BVI, but also in the Spanish Virgins and St. Maarten. We are active explorers that strive to expose our guests to pristine untouched places and really connect with the natural wonder that makes chartering in the Caribbean such an unforgettable experience.

Guests on the virgin islands catamaran charter catsy

Catsy’s up galley and considerable food storage, pantry, and utensil space will provide Jennifer a brand new stage to showcase her cooking prowess with her affinity to operate a scratch galley. You can expect freshly made bread, pastries, and a multitude of refined menu options. One of our main goals as hosts is to deliver an outstanding memorable culinary experience.

They are open for Thanksgiving 2016.  Chef Jenn has made a special menu.

About Catsy:

Accommodating 8 guests in four en-suite staterooms plus crew’s quarters, covered cockpit, and fly-bride. Her interior features cherry wood that creates a cozy retreat, especially on a warm day in the Caribbean. She is a proven crewed charter catamaran.

sport-catamaran

A sport catamaran is a light, fast twin-hulled sailboat without a cabin, designed for one to three persons.

These boats are for leisure or competition sailing. They also can be used for coastal racing, since beaching is easy and the trampoline is an ideal place to pitch a tent. Water sports centers sometimes have a fleet of rental cats.

The two identical hulls are joined by arms. The hulls can be of polyester, polypropylene, carbon or even inflatable plastic. The mast, stepped on the forward arm, sometimes carries only a mainsail, though jib and spinnaker, generally asymmetrical, are optional additions. Twin rudders are linked by a steering rack. The catamaran has one or more trapezes for hiking out.

Choice will depend on crew capacity and intended use including leisure, regatta and coastal racing. The many models range from 12-foot single-handers to 22-footers for two or three people. The larger the catamaran, the more powerful. Inflatable cats are easy to transport, but cannot match the performance of the others. All can be trailered. Common standard models offer the possibility of participating in class regattas.

Crewed Catamaran charter vacations in the Caribbean

The most popular style of crewed, all-inclusive yacht to charter is a sailing catamaran. Sailing catamarans offer a broad, stable platform with private en-suite guest cabins which are spaced out by the hulls and plenty of space in between. Catamarans also have easy access to the water via the sugar scoops and a number of different outdoor areas including trampolines forward, shaded cockpit with dining table aft and some catamarans also have upper fly bridge decks. A sailing catamaran is the best choice for great value and comfort.

The Caribbean offers crewed charter catamarans for many budgets and party sizes – click the "sort by" links below to find a catamaran that fits your group's specifications or use the search form if you have specific travel dates in mind.

Your team: Goran and Alex met back in 2018 while chartering on the beautiful Adriatic sea. They quickly developed a deep admiration for each other´s work ethic and knew they´d make the perfect team. After years of working together all across the Mediterranean, they are now excited to take on the Caribbean together! Combined, they have run over 200 charters, in both the freelance and term charter realms, all around the BVI and across the globe so they have the experience and passion to provide world-class hospitality, menus and experiences in all their charters. Our Ethos: Over the time spent working together, Goran and Alex have found a balance in providing top-tier hospitality and making personal connections with guests. Human connection makes the world go ´round, and creating an environment for every kind of guest to make lasting memories with their loved ones and their crew is what brings this team joy. They can adapt to any and all kinds of guests from different cultures and walks of life, meeting needs and requests at the drop of a hat. Goran and Alex pride themselves in the lifelong friendships they have made with their guests, resulting in many return charter bookings. Goran: Goran was born and raised in Croatia with the sea always in his sights. After his 13 year career as a professional athlete, he went back to school to obtain his master´s in Marine Technology Engineering. He started sailing and quickly found that he preferred life on the water over office work, and Captain Goran was born. After more than a decade of being a professional skipper and skipper instructor in the Mediterranean, as well as leading many freelance and The Yacht Week charters in the BVI, he has decided to ´cross the pond´ and join his favorite chef in the Caribbean full-time in the waters that have become his favorite over the years! Alex: Driven by a passion for culture, adventure and community, Alex dove head-first into the culinary world. She moved from Toronto to Florence, Italy after earning her degree to immerse herself in Italian food culture. Alex took jobs while living there, in restaurants and as an au pair, and developed the flexibility and service mindset needed to apply for something completely new as an operations assistant at Quarterdeck. In this role, she grew the organization skills that she would later use in her Yacht Chef career on sailing yachts around the globe. Over the last 7 years, she has developed an exceptionally high standard of food preparation and presentation, along with an ever-growing knack for customer service. a major highlight was her time at the Ashburton Cookery school where she got a revamp on her culinary skills and new tips and techniques for emphasis on detail and presentation which she has used and continues to build upon. Alex has mastered the art of going above and beyond in her menu preparation, and in being first mate, guide, host and even friend to guests. As a charter chef based in the BVI since 2019, Alex is excited to not only serve up amazing meals, but also offer up her favorite BVI ´secret spots´ to her guests!

Good afternoon! We are still at the airport awaiting our flight back home...unfortunately. We had an AMAZING experience aboard Krazy Kat and visiting BVI. This was our first charter experience so we were not sure what to expect but it definitely exceeded our expectations. The crew: Alex & Goran were spectacular. Safe, conscientious, easy to be around and felt like part of the family after just a couple of days. They gave us plenty of space if we needed, but were always there for anything we needed to make our trip that much more special. Goran is a knowledgeable and safe captain and took time to explain any questions we had. He was great with the teenagers, and entertained them throughout the week in the dingy doing water sports. He also made some pretty good cocktails!! Alex was awesome helping us plan daily excursions as we stayed very active. She was resourceful and had great ideas of experiencing things to do! But, she also is an AMAZING chef. We had the most incredible meals and it was one of the highlights of the trip. Timely, healthy, supported all of our special food requests, and great service and table setting for each meal. They are an amazing team and we loved experiencing BVI with them as our crew! The boat/accommodations: The Krazy Kat itself is very very nice and felt nearly brand new. The cabins are spacious, everything works and functions great. There are several different areas to enjoy the boat so you have anything you desire (sun, shade, loungers, tables, couches, multiple decks, etc.). The boat was perfect for our family of 5 and offered great hang out space and plenty of privacy! The dinghy with water sports, the sea scooters and paddle boards offered a lot of easy fun to have around the boat while anchored each day! Kids loved wakeboarding behind the dingy! The food and drink aboard KK: As I said above, the food was one of the highlights. Alex made the provisioning process super easy with special requests and she nailed every single meal. It is seriously one thing I think our kids will remember most of the trip! Ha! All of the kid and adult beverages we desired were available at any time and plenty of fresh brewed coffee each morning! We also enjoyed a daily Happy Hour with a special cocktail (and kid version) made by Alex & Goran. That was a Great touch. The experiences: We decided that we wanted to be very active and do some sort of excursion each day as our teenagers like to do things while on vacation. So, Alex was awesome at helping us plan out the week and islands we visited based upon some of the excursions. We would HIGHLY recommend the following : E-Foil near Saba Rock with Christian Hobie Cat at Bitter End (although we didn´t have much wind it was still fun...would have been amazing with more wind) Tour the Baths and Devil´s bay on Virgin Gorda (take a cooler! Could hang out here for hours next time) Sail to Anegada (awesome putting the sails up!) Snorkel tour and conk fishing with Sherwin´s on Anegada We stayed one night at Scrub Island resort. We wouldn´t do that next time (not necessary and enjoyed the boat accommodations just as much). However, we checked out Anegada Beach Club while there and the ´tent cottages´ on the beach looked amazing and we would recommend spending more time there (or even a night off of the boat) next time Last- everyone must go to Coco Maya. Alex made us a reservation and we had an amazing dinner experience. Super cool vibe!

Where can we put a 6th Star?

Where can we put a 6th star? I honestly cannot say enough good things about our trip on board the Karzy Kat. We had the best time, it was fantastic! Truly the trip of a lifetime. Our friends say I have set the bar very high with this one! The catamaran itself was fabulous - clean, well maintained and very spacious. For having 10 people on it, you never felt cramped or crowded. In the evenings we would all sit up on the fly bridge and there was plenty of room for everyone - a great place to gather and talk about what a fun day we had. They had provisioned Krazy Kat really well and the entire experience was just what I wanted it to be - very, very happy with that selection. The A/C worked great too! Goran and Alex - LOVED them. Their teamwork is like a well choreographed dance and it´s obvious they actually like and respect each other. Nothing either one of them wouldn´t do for us, if we asked or even before we could ask! It was a pleasure to have them with us for this trip. Loved talking to them and getting to know a little bit about where they came from and how they ended up in the BVI´s. We´d go again tomorrow if we could. Goran was an excellent captain, focused & conscientious. Fun & funny too! Every day he´d study the weather patterns to ensure our next days sail would be safe and comfortable. He also went out of his way to get us to the Baths when the seas & cruise ship schedule weren´t that favorable by docking later in the day in Spanish Town, arranging transportation to the park and then guiding us through the Baths - it was unexpected and quite wonderful to have his knowledge and guidance on this adventure. We had them come with us at several stops and I think we all had a blast! And we didn´t just motor everywhere, they hoisted the sails and we got to experience that special quietness as well, nothing like it. Every stop and/or overnight spot was awesome - we were in quiet, calm bays, with just a few ´neighbors´ where we could swim, float or just stare at the stars. It wasn´t just A-B-C-D, check, check, check - It was a thoughtful itinerary developed by Alex & Goran to immerse us in this little corner of paradise, and it worked. He was also a great room steward! Alex, man that girl can cook! Not a bad meal, snack or cocktail the entire trip. She took our preference sheet to heart and fed us spectacularly at every seating. Every meal also included a vegetarian option as well, very much appreciated (and gobbled up) by all. She made so many things from scratch - sourdough bread, hamburger buns & pasta, to name a few - it was incredible! She spoiled us with all the seafood we could eat plus favorites from hers & Goran´s family traditions & customs, it was very special. She has the work ethic of a person twice her age & a ´nothing is too much´ attitude. She is refreshing and amazing. Damn good sailor too! Of course, sailing with us was just as spectacular for them I am sure - LOL! We appreciated that they played along with some of our shenanigans too - eye patches & a monkey - you know the usual! None of us will ever forget this trip - Barb & Paul

We couldn´t have asked for a better captain

We’ve been dreaming of this trip for years and we’re delighted with the boat and the crew! Goran was the best of the best. He went above and beyond always. He guided us to the best spots, hidden and exciting, and was a pleasure to be with. We couldn’t have asked for a better captain. Very respectable and made us feel safe at all times. Alex was a fabulous Chef and host. She made everyone feel at home and so comfortable. Her cooking was fantastic and she was able to easily accommodate dietary restrictions. She was a joy to have on the boat! - The Randall Family

The Trip of a Lifetime

The trip of a lifetime is nothing without the crew. Goran met and exceeded all expectations. He was professional and respectful to us and other guests. He was like our own personal guide and showed us around to all the great local spots. I wouldn’t have changed anything about Goran because he made our charter experience one for the books! Alex is a fantastic chef and guide! We could not thank her enough for the amazing effort and time she put into taking care of us and making sure we had everything we needed/wanted. These two are a great team and we can’t wait to book our next trip with them! -The Michaely Gang

Where do we even start?!

Where do we even start? Obviously, the crew. Goran was amazing. You need the most experienced Captain? Gorans got you. You need someone to keep everything safe while you have fun? Gorans got you. You need recommendation on what’s the best day plan agenda? Gorans got you. You need a great friend you can talk and mess around with? Gorans got you. Goran can do anything and everything period. You’d be lucky to have him as your Captain and Alex as your chef. Alex was the best! She always took care of everything. We never needed to ask for anything, she was always on top of it. Alex and Goran worked so well together it made it week unforgettable. We miss them already and are so grateful for our week together. The Macs, Jackson’s and Hills

The Crew was on of the Best Things About This Trip!

The crew was one of the best things about this trip. Goran was more than a Captain, he was a friend who fit in with us like we had known him for years. He was also professional and a very skilled yachts man. His knowledge, recommendations and advice were perfect all week and I will recommend that of any friends want to charter that they book him as the Captain and Alex as the chef because it would be worth every dollar. Alex was everything we could’ve wanted and more! Her food was AMAZING, she was super helpful and sweet! We said when we come back for another charter we NEED Alex & Goran! They were AMAZING! -The Fox’s

´Thank you will never be enough´

The memories will be forever cherished

WOW! Best vacation....every second will be cherished!

The best compliment I can give is that you made us feel special

´Spectacular Experience´

We have chartered many boats before but have never had the spectacular experience we had with Cam and Jada on Krazy Kat! We’ve also dined in innumerable restaurants before but never had food as wonderful as that provided by Jada. Both Jada and Cam are experts at what they do and are delightful company. We would always talk about so many interesting things in the evenings. The Krazy Kat is also the best catamaran we’ve ever been on, beating out the Lagoon 62 that we chartered last time. The experience could not have been better. Thanks so much for recommending Jada, Cam and the Krazy Kat. Best, Alec

´Far and above any of the other boats that we have chartered´

Alec and my family have just returned from our trip on Krazy Kat. She is an amazing boat and far above any of the other boats that we have chartered. Alec and I had the master cabin which was like a lovely hotel room! All that said, Cam and Jada, the crew of Krazy Kat, we’re marvelous. They are a terrific team and did everything to make us very relaxed and pampered from the start. Cam’s captaining made us always feel safe and he made sure that we had lots of fun while we were at our anchorages. Jada provided the most incredible gourmet meals and was full of energy helping Cam with the boat. Our family group ranged in age from 14-74 and we all carry wonderful memories of our adventure on Krazy Kat with Cam and Jada.

´We had a wonderful time!´

Our charter was spectacular! We had a wonderful time! The Boat was beautiful and spacious. Cam and Jada were excellent! They are such nice people. Cam is a great captain. He managed to schedule our trip around bad weather sneaking up on us. Jada is a marvelous cook. Every meal was expertly and deliciously prepared and served. Both of them are super nice. We had a great time playing cards at night with them and the kids. We hope they can visit us in Guatemala sometime.

´...Beyond Perfect!´

In general the trip was beyond perfect! Cameron, the Captain, was always courteous, knowledgeable, and willing to go the extra mile. He made a perfect choice on the itinerary and accommodated our wishes with enthusiasm. On top of this, he was always enjoying whatever we decided to do. Jada, was fantastic in all regards, the cooking was exquisite and hard to believe it could be done on board. In top of that she always had a smile and kept on pampering us throughout the day. The menu was an amazing surprise every day while keeping in mind our preferences. I had never experienced three gourmet meals a day. We would charter this boat again in a heartbeat, but what really hooked us is the crew.

Wow, just wow!

Wow, just wow! Cameron & Jada are top notch in every way. Between organizing rendezvous diving at two locations, figuring out the best scuba & snorkel options along the route, we just came thank them enough. We may be the luckiest guests ever! Eagle rays, bull sharks, black tip, etc.! Turtles, turtles & turtles! Superb mixed drinks each night with delicious food cooked by Jada. Petting nurse sharks, visiting grotto’s, surf and wake boarding, mangroves full of turtles hiding from the sharks. Learning to sail and spear fish hunting was another highlight. We would follow and charter with Cameron & Jada around the world! Can’t thank them enough.

´...Beyond fabulous.´

Cameron and Jada were beyond fabulous. Our captain was vigilant and made us all feel safe and comfortable. He was extremely adaptable when the winds changed and meeting the desires of the passengers. Jada was an absolute master in the kitchen. We were repeatedly impressed and she just kept outdoing herself.

´...Rock star team of Cam and Jada´

Totally loved the BVI itinerary... beautiful water, great snorkelling, lots of sailing, fun beach bars... definitely recommend! Cameron and Jada were top notch hosts. Food and drinks were awesome and they went out of their way to be helpful and make the trip fun for everyone... highly recommend this trip and hope you are lucky enough to get the rock star team of Cam and Jada as your hosts!

´...world-class customer care experience´

Cam and Jada take exceedingly great care of their customers. You can implicitly commit your trust in them and totally relax. Our Captain Cam and First Mate Jada were exceptional. No additional explanation is needed because it would not suffice. Just know you are in for a world-class customer care experience. On the open seas of competitive customer care, Cam and Jada sail the extra nautical mile leaving others in their wake.

Poise is combined with power in the shape of a relatively powerful sail area, providing a power to weight ratio to set pulses racing.  This additional power delivers the speed to bring significantly more destinations within reach, satisfying a modern market which may need to fit “extended” cruising into only a few weeks or months. But in all of the 600 catamaran boats launched, not one has ever suffered a rig failure or have we ever experienced a capsize.  Seawind catamaran yachts are built on a track record of success.

ERGONOMIC & PRACTICAL

Seawind Catamarans’ sustained success over so many years is built on key features which are part of our DNA. Huge cockpit doors open to combine the saloon and cockpit – a feature unmatched in the market, and which provide expansive and versatile living space.  The new Seawind 1260 enhances this feature further by adding a modular cockpit arrangement. Move chairs and seats to arrange the space as you need it, as circumstances demand.  Seat 8 people inside, and another 8 outside.  Or bring everyone in and make that a dozen inside or easily clear the cockpit for a long passage.  Every Seawind catamaran sailboat provides flexibility and luxury while sacrificing none of the practicality that made previous Seawind Cats models the success they are. Seawind boats also provide unparalleled entertainment space while sacrificing nothing in offshore safety.

PROTECTED SAFE STEERING

Dual helm stations are found on every Seawind Catamarans sailboat, and they offer 360-degree visibility, even on the largest Seawind 1600 model.  This allows the skipper to sail safely in crowded harbor conditions, and to keep an eye on the crew when offshore. Large targa tops offer protection from the harsh offshore conditions, both sun and rain, while panoramic opening windows provide ventilation as well as visibility.  Seawind Catamarans boats offer the protection of a pilothouse yacht, with the visibility and helming advantages of a sailing catamaran.

INDOOR/ OUTDOOR LIVING

The famous Australian indoor / outdoor, open lifestyle is entrenched in Seawind Catamarans designs, with an unbeatable living area complimented by brilliant natural ventilation, protected cockpit lounge, and social helm seats putting the skipper in control as well as in the conversation. Best of all, you can enjoy what many catamaran sailboats compromise on… visibility – for the skipper and crew, with 360 degree views from the helm and saloon seats all within the protection of the fiberglass coachouse and targa top.

The 8 Fastest Cruising Catamarans (With Speedchart)

Cruising catamarans are some of the most comfortable boats to roam the water, making them fantastic for both long-term voyages and short-term vacations. Still, cruising catamarans can be great racing boats, but just how fast can they go?

Some of the fastest cruising catamarans include the Gunboat 68 (35 knots), Outremer 45 (25 knots), ORC50 (25 knots), FastCat 435 (20 knots), TS 42 (35 knots), and Lagoon 440 (20 knots). Yet, there are many more cats that can reach 35 knots safely.

If you are interested in knowing about the fastest cruising catamarans, I have you covered. I will be discussing some of the most popular, fastest cruising catamarans and the features that make them so excellent for sailors in need of speed. You will learn more about each catamaran’s speed and amenities, and I will let you know a trick or two to maximize your speed under sail.

How Fast Are Cruising Catamarans?

On average, cruising catamarans can reach top speeds of 15 knots , around 17.3 mph (27.84 kph). However, some exceptional, racing-designed cruising catamarans can reach up to 30+ knots in the right wind conditions.

When you want to better understand catamaran hull characteristics, I suggest the book Catamarans a Complete Guide (amazon link) by the president of Aeroyacht catamarans and that you check out my article Why catamarans capsize .

Factors That Impact Speed

Weight & size.

When you consider a catamaran’s speed, you will need to keep in mind the boat’s weight and narrowness. A vessel that can travel at 15 knots will still move slower if the boat is heavy or has a wide, extensive hull. When increasing the total weight of the boat, the boat “sits” lower in the water, thus increasing water drag and reducing speed.

Why trimarans are faster than catamarans!

Now that we know how weight impacts sailing characteristics, it follows that; if you are planning on racing your catamaran, you should remove as much luggage or extra gear as possible. Eliminating as much weight as possible will help you travel at your cat’s maximum speed .

Narrow Hulls

The hydrodynamics of the ship will heavily affect your speed. Narrower boats can chop through the water with less effort, making slender ships with pointed hulls far faster than wide vessels. So if you are looking for the fastest one available, you should look for a slender hull.

Slim hulls vs. space is a common tradeoff for catamarans optimized for family sailing .

Wind will also affect your ship’s speed, so do not expect your cruising catamaran to reach the maximum speed without heavy wind. Generally, cruising catamarans have two large sails (at least) to power them through the water, and some are so efficient that they can travel even faster than the wind.

Although a strong wind is needed to energize the sails and move the boat, too much wind will instead make the sails less efficient, and maximum speed is most often attained at lower wind speeds but with flat water.

Light Weight Materials

Faster cruising catamarans are often made from carbon fiber materials and fiberglass to keep the weight down. If you are looking for the quickest catamaran that you can find, you should note the materials that the ship is made out of and try to get one that is primarily made from carbon, glass, and resin materials.

While you are looking for the perfect catamaran for you, you should keep in mind what you NEED and what is NICE with your ship. Usually, this decision is between size and speed, but some of these excellent vessels have both.

Lightweight materials are usually costly; for example, a carbon fiber mast will probably cost you +$20 000, depending on the cat’s size.

I have written a buyer’s guide that explains the concept of NEED vs. NICE , which will make choosing the right boat faster and more accurate.

Gunboat 68 (+35Kts)

Gunboat 68 is a cruising catamaran designed to reach the highest speeds possible. Made by Gunboat, the ship uses Grand-Prix racing boats’ designs to develop the speediest cruising catamaran on the market.

Gunboat 68 is made entirely from carbon composites, which keeps the ship lightweight and fast. Gunboat 68 is the perfect catamaran for anyone who wants to reach the highest speeds possible while maintaining control of the vessel and not bouncing around too much.

Gunboat 68 has comfortable, spacious living quarters, though it also has a spacious deck with luxurious seating. Indeed, this cat has it all, making it one of the best cruising catamarans for racers and casual sailors. The design maximizes all of the living spaces and uses lightweight materials to add elegance and luxury to a speedy racing catamaran.

Gunboat 68 is one of the fastest cruising cats out there, with its maximum speed at more than 30 knots . Gunboat 68 can achieve these fast speeds, thanks to its lightweight construction and narrow hull design.

Still, Gunboat can customize your ship’s plan to accommodate your needs. Whether you are looking for a faster, more lightweight boat with a more extensive sail or a more comfortable cruiser, Gunboat 68 is an excellent option for you.

TS 42 (ORC 42)

The TS, or Tres Simple , cruising catamarans, designed by Marsaudon Composites, are some of the fastest cruising catamarans in the world.

Marsaudon developed the ship’s plans using racing boats’ streamlined designs and combined them with a cruising catamaran’s comfortable living spaces. The TS 42 has an inverted hull which helps it glide on the water swiftly without requiring much fuel, but it also has a spacious below-deck area with plenty of luxuries.

TS cruising catamarans are often considered the fastest cruisers on the market, with their speed comfortably reaching upwards of 35 knots in the right wind conditions. Generally, TS catamarans can sail at 20 knots, even with moderate wind. They are the perfect catamaran for racers and high-speed travelers, and yet they still have the amenities of a pleasant live-in vessel.

The TS 42 has a large galley and comfortable cabins, making it a cozy home or vacation vessel. With multiple bathrooms, large windows, and open lounge spaces, these catamarans are superbly comfortable to live in.

The deck and cabin space are divided by a large, openable window, which adds extra light and ventilation to the living areas. It also has plenty of on-deck space, which is rare in such a small vessel with an inverted hull.

If you think I’m using too many confusing nautical terms, you’ll find all the answers on my Catamaran parts explained page .

  • Length: 42.8 ft (13 m)
  • Beam: 24.3 ft (7.4 m)
  • Draft: 4.9 ft (1.5 m) with boards up and 7.5 ft (2.3 m) with boards down
  • Displacement: 5.8 tonnes

Outremer 45

Based in France, Outremer (pronounced uutremeer 😉 ) designed their Outremer 45 to be a long-lasting cruising catamaran that sails smoothly at high speeds. The Outremer 45 can reach about 15 knots, but the most comfortable sailing speed is 10 knots. However, it can travel up to 25 knots in the right wind conditions, making it a quick ship with all of a perfect cruising catamaran’s luxuries.

It is made for durability from carbon, vinyl ester, and divinycell so that it can last many years without repairs. The Outremer 45 has a narrow hull, and it is designed to be as thin as possible to maximize speed and fuel efficiency. Outremer 45 still has comfortable living quarters with large windows and lounge spaces within the boat. Indeed, it sacrifices no comfort for speed.

In this article, I talk a lot about catamaran characteristics, both interior and exterior, if that’s something you want to better understand, then I recommend an article where I write about trade-offs in design choices .

The Outremer 45 was initially designed to be a boat that would last 50 or more years, and it excels in its durability. It has an open, uniquely expansive side deck and plenty of on-deck conveniences that make sailing a breeze in the ORC50.

With supreme safety features such as tall railings, slip-free grips on deck, and enclosed lounge spaces, it is one of the safest catamarans available (is safety your top concern? I wrote a list of the safest catamarans on the market).

  • Maximum Speed: 25 knots
  • Length: 48 ft (14.6 m)
  • Beam: 23.3 ft (7.1 m)
  • Draft: 3.3 ft (1 m) with boards up and 6.7 ft (2.04 m) with boards down
  • Displacement: 8.2 to 11.1 tonnes

Marsaudon Composites ORC50

Marsaudon Composites designed the ORC50, or Ocean Rider Catamaran 50, with both speed and comfort in mind. The ORC50 can be used for cruising, but it is also a great racing boat that has been awarded honors from many races worldwide.

Marsaudon borrowed designs from racing skippers to plan the ORC50, bringing together a cruiser’s comfort with the speed of an award-winning racing boat.

This cruising catamaran is lightweight, which allows it to gain speed at a fast rate, but still has comfortable living quarters inside the boat. It has a rotating carbon mast, which helps to eliminate turbulence over the mainsail and therefore increasing sail efficiency and speed!

With strong winds, the ORC50 can reach up to 23 knots , making it extremely fast for a cruising catamaran. The ORC50 can easily reach speeds much faster than the wind speed, which is a unique quality of this fast, yet comfortable catamaran.

The ORC50 is an excellent long-term living ship with its many organizational compartments, expansive galley, and well-ventilated sleeping cabin. It also has plenty of couches and seating areas built into the boat, and its intuitive design adds plenty of comfort to the cruising catamaran without weighing down the ship.

  • Length: 50 ft (15.23 m)
  • Beam: 27 ft (8.2 m)
  • Draft: 5.6 ft (1.7 m) with boards up and 8.9 ft (2.7 m) with boards down
  • Displacement: 13 tonnes

FastCat 435

African Cat’s catamarans, including the FastCat 435, are designed for speed and racing. This ship is mainly composed of epoxy, fiberglass, and carbon components, making it very lightweight to ensure that it travels as swiftly as possible.

The FastCat 435 may be as light as possible, but it is durable enough to last for many years in the most extreme conditions.

The FastCat 435 has comfortable living quarters and well-designed comfort spaces so that you can get the most out of your trips. The FastCat also has a green hybrid design, and it uses primarily electric power, which can help you prolong your sailing and use less fuel.

I find solar-powered/electric cats pretty exciting, so much so that I wrote an entire article called The Best Solar-Powered Catamarans on the subject.

The FastCat is an excellent option for anyone who wants a smaller cat with a comfortable design and incredible speed. FastCat’s electric power is also a unique, favorable feature for anyone who wants to use less fuel.

  • Maximum Speed: 20 knots
  • Length: 42.7 ft (13 m)
  • Beam: 24.4 ft (7.4 m)
  • Draft: 3.9 ft (1.2 m) with boards up
  • Displacement: 2.4 tonnes

The Lagoon 440 cruising catamaran, like the FastCat, has an electric powering version, which cuts down on fossil fuel usage and ensures that your ship will keep moving. The Lagoon 440 is also among the easiest catamarans to maneuver, thanks to its electric drivetrain and automatic engines.

The speed of the Lagoon 440 usually maxes out at 10 knots with low winds, but with higher winds, it can quickly gain speeds up to 20 knots (some argue even higher, but I’m doubtful). The Lagoon 440 is an excellent cruiser and comfortable catamaran, but it is not an all-out racing cat.

Lagoon is a well-known brand, but there are some caveats, and are Lagoons still making good catamarans?

Below the deck, the living spaces in the Lagoon 440 are magnificent. The ceilings are high, allowing the tallest of passengers to stand in the cabin. The many storage compartments and furnishings have a modern, elegant design. The interior is one large primary cabin with a few private spaces below the deck.

  • Length: 44.6 ft (13.6 m)
  • Beam: 25.3 ft (7.7 m)
  • Draft: 4.3 ft (1.3 m)
  • Displacement: 10.5 tonnes

Fountaine Pajot Astréa 42

Fountaine Pajot designs some of the most luxurious yet speedy cruising catamarans available in the world. They are renowned for their safe, durable designs that make sailing a comfortable, relaxing experience. And on a personal note, i think the name sounds beautiful!

Their cruising catamarans use an inverted hull design that has become a signature mark of Fountaine Pajot vessels. This hull type allows the water to pass beneath the ship quickly, which increases the speed and fuel efficiency of the cat.

The Astréa 42’s primary benefit is its spacious, comfortable living quarters and large, open deck spaces. The ship’s interior spaces have large windows, large lounging areas, and plenty of storage compartments.

The cabin’s ventilation is also excellent, which reduces the classic musty smells of sea living. You can also get two different models of this catamaran, either in a one-cabin option or a two-cabin option, making it an excellent vessel for larger or smaller families.

The Astréa is ideal for long-term sea living and family vacations (it is not as fast as some more racing-oriented cats). Although the Astréa is not the speediest cat available, with its speed maxing out at about 10+ knots, even in favorable wind conditions, its luxurious atmosphere and comfortable cabin spaces make up for its relatively slow speed.

Don’t get me wrong, despite its lower speed compared to the boats on this list, the Astréa 42 can still get you places quicker than many other cruising catamarans (and most monohulls). So, if you want all of the elegance and comfort of a cat and are not too worried about racing, this ship is an excellent option for you.

  • Maximum Speed: 10 knots
  • Length: 41.3 ft (12.6 m)
  • Beam: 23.6 ft (7.2 m)
  • Draft: 4.1 ft (1.3 m)
  • Displacement: 12.3 tonnes

Privilege Signature 510

The Privilege Signature 510 is a long-distance cruising catamaran designed for long-term voyages and sailing in extreme weather conditions. It features a durable, weatherproof design that will protect you from rainy and cold weather while sailing.

The helm and living spaces are completely covered, making it safe to live in, even in cold or stormy weather. It also has an automatic sail adjustment system with the controls at the helm, allowing you to make any adjustments from the helm’s safety and comfort.

Privilege Signature 510 also has an elegant, well-designed living space with plenty of amenities, including an accelerated cooling system, a spacious bathroom and kitchen, and plenty of windows for natural lighting.

With an elegant floor plan, this cozy ship is perfect for long-term living.

The Privilege Signature is not the fastest catamaran on the market, with a maximum speed of around 13 knots. Still, it is one of the quicker cats considering its elaborate amenities and comfortable size.

  • Maximum Speed: 13 knots
  • Length: 50 ft (15.24 m)
  • Beam: 26 ft (7.98 m)
  • Draft: 5 ft (1.57 m)
  • Displacement: 25 tonnes

Although cruising catamarans are great boats for slowly cruising along the water, they can also be swift, substantial racing boats that reach speeds of up to 35 knots. These speedy cruising catamarans still come with all of the amenities of leisure boats, but they also reach incredible speeds without rocking or tossing.
