Mocka Jumbies and Rum...
So the story goes, visitors who wanted to dine at the original Clubhouse, one built by the Bitter End Yacht Club’s first owner, Bahamian-born Basil Symonette, had to approach a long wooden pier and sound their boat’s air horn. If salty-tempered sailor Symonette felt sociable, he’d megaphone back inviting the guests ashore for a strong drink and quick meal. The evening lasted until Basil decided it was time for the lights to go out and he shut off the generator. Today, all visitors need to do to eat at the Clubhouse 2.0 is walk in at dinnertime. Although, reservations are a good idea in season.
Symonette, an eccentric sailor himself, built the first Clubhouse from the wreck of legendary helmsman Sumner ‘Huey’ Long’s ketch, Ondine. The yacht’s mainmast served as the structure’s primary center post. Today’s Clubhouse was built of modern materials, with no yachts used in its making. Yet, with its open-air dining room, seating indoors and out, and the resort’s breathtaking anchorage beyond, it’s still a need-to-dine destination. The nautical theme extends to the sea-to-table menu, featuring yellowfin tuna tartare as an appetizer, an Anegada spiny lobster entrée, and signature key lime pie for dessert. beyc.com/the-clubhouse/

It's a beautiful venue with nice people. It's loud, but that means that people are having a good time. And that's the objective, right, for people to celebrate life? Perhaps that's the best measure of success, did people have a good time? Perhaps our analysis is too narrow when we focus on ambiance, service, and food. Yes, they are part of the equation, but in the end, did people celebrate life? The ambience was comfortable, but the celebration was greater. The ceviche was great, but the celebration of life was even greater. Celebrate life, mate, celebrate life! Love on your friends! Live life!
A great reprieve after days of sailing. We moored here for a few nights, took advantage of the free showers for boaters, enjoyed espresso drinks and baked goods for breakfast at the coffee bar, and picked up some t shirts. Had dinner at the ClubHouse one evening, the other two nights in the Buoy Room. Both were exceptional. Highly recommend d if you're looking to regroup after some bare boating.
Sunset from the BEYC
One word? Paradise. Destroyed in the hurricanes of 2017, they're back and ready for company. Mooring field is quiet and calm, making for a restful night sleep. Launch service until 9:45 pm if you'd rather not dinghy in. There's a small fee per person, but well worth the easy trip. Showers and a provisioning store are also available. (Though the store was a bit low on goods, the re-stocking barge is due in tomorrow.) Dinner at The Bouy Room was delicious. Lots of small plates to share, as well as pizza and calzones from their brick oven. My husband and I shared conch fritters and a tasty mahi taco. Bit of spice, but not overwhelming. He also had chicken wings that he enjoyed. We are here with three other couples. Two of them had pizza, one the calzone. Again, highly recommended. One had a salad which she declared the best she's ever had. She works in Manhattan, so that's saying a lot! Service was pleasant as usual in an economy that relies on tourism. I definitely recommend visiting.
We absolutely Bitter End Yacht Club!!! Came here in 2022 on a catamaran and rented a slip. Super great accommodations. This year we are island hopping by ferry instead of on a boat. Took the super quick and convenient (and free) ferry over to the island for the past two days. Just a quick cab ride over the hill from Leverick Bay Resort. Just as great!! Wonderful bar and restaurant. Immaculate place from the grounds to the restrooms and everything in between. The staff are all phenomenal!!! Especially the bar staff! Kishma is truly the best!! Happy hour from 3-5 with 2 for 1 drink specials for two drinks. Super cute boutique and market for everything you need that you can't get from the bar and restaurant. We asked the front desk how to get over to Saba Rock for a few hours and the front desk guy took us on his dinghy. So accommodating! The lounge chairs are super comfortable and the water is beautiful!!! Keep up the great work Bitter End!!! Can't wait to come back!!

Had dinner last night 6/7/2022 at the Buoy Room of Bitter End Yacht Club. I had read a couple of unfavorable reviews. All I can say is they are wrong. The experience was great. Bitter End has done a great job of rebuilding so far.... The facility is beautiful with different sitting areas and a couple of bars. Pretty lively night with a good crowd.
