Ruby Franke’s “petrified” daughter refused to leave a closet for four hours after police discovered her hiding while they searched Jodi Hildebrandt’s Utah home.

The Washington County Attorney’s Office released an enormous amount of evidence against the disgraced YouTube star over the weekend, and among it was footage of authorities finding the 9-year-old girl, referred to as “E,” sitting timidly in a dark closet.

Wearing oversized clothing and appearing very thin, the child doesn’t respond to police who try to coax her out to help her.

“The officers responded to Ms. Hildebrandt’s home, placed her under arrest, and conducted a search of her sizable property where they found Ms. Franke’s 9-year-old daughter, petrified and hiding in a closet,” the county attorney’s office said in a statement regarding the evidence release.

EMTs, police officers and more first responders delivered pizza and a drink to the girl in an attempt to get her out, and even played Maroon 5’s “Payphone” in an attempt to make her more comfortable.

“You’re more than welcome to eat,” someone off camera can be heard telling the youngster. “That’s all you.”

After “E” begins eating, an EMT issues a “pinky promise” to her that they’re there to help and shared that they also helped her brother — the 12-year-old who fled the abusive home to a neighbor’s house for help.

Police arrested the former “8 Passengers” host, 42, and Hildebrandt, 54, in August and the women have since have pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated child abuse.

Franke admitted to torturing her young children and was sentenced to up to 30 years in prison .

Newly released entries from Franke’s journals detail the horrific abuse two of her kids, “E” and “R,” suffered at her Hildebrandt’s hands.

In one entry, the momfluencer described holding her 12-year-old son, whom she believed to be possessed by a demon, underwater while she placed her hands “tightly over his nose and mouth.”

“These selfish, selfish children who desire only to take, lie, and attack have zero understanding of god’s love for them,” Franke wrote in her journal.

Franke also withheld food and water from her son, which she justified by writing, “I will not feed a demon.”

Meanwhile, Franke told her now-estranged husband, Kevin Franke, in a jailhouse call that she didn’t do “naughty things.”

“Satan has taken everything away from me that I love,” Ruby said during a Sept. 1 call, “and I’m a good woman. I don’t do naughty things. I don’t do naughty things. I’m a really good girl.” 

Kevin then told her he was going to “do everything that [he] can to keep truth in our family.”

“I am committed to our family,” he said. “I am committed to you and our marriage no matter what happens. I will be here to support you in any way that I can.”

He’s since filed for divorce and has requested to become a guardian of their teen daughter Abby.

Titled SAFARI AL FORNITES AT THE SCALLOPS HOTEL: The First Orange Tree Has Been Planted in my Room , the album follows last year’s self-released LP, I Steel Of Radiance, I Feel So Action , and S.al’s last album on Ruby Yacht, Little Man, You’ve Had a Busy Day , released in 2017.

The 11-track album is almost entirely produced by Rory Allen Philip Ferreira, who also releases as Scallops Hotel and R.A.P. Ferreira, with additional production by TV Nicks (a.k.a Kyle Johnson) on tracks one, four, six, and eight. Much of the work on it was completed in Brooklyn, New York during the close of 2019, but it was finished during a series of sessions at the Soulfolks HQ in Biddeford, Maine. Like many of the releases across Ruby Yacht, renowned engineer Daddy Kev mastered the work in Los Angeles at his Cosmic Zoo studio.

S.al, from Wisconsin, has been releasing records for close to a decade, launching his debut LP, Hermitage Academy , in 2012, and since releasing over 10 solo albums and working collaboratively on numerous projects. As one of the co-founders of the Ruby Yacht, he has become a critical member behind the inner workings of the label, managing releases, designing artwork, heading the Soulfolks shop, shipping packages, and much more.

New video reveals how Ruby Franke’s husband was kept in dark about abuse

Body camera footage shows Kevin Franke sharing his story for the first time.

Utah mommy vlogger Ruby Franke, alongside her husband Kevin and six children, presented a picture-perfect family to her millions of subscribers on the YouTube Channel, "8 Passengers."

But off-camera, a year after her marriage unraveled and she asked Kevin to leave their home, a twisted tale of Ruby’s horrific abuse of the two youngest children has emerged.

In newly released police interview footage of Kevin Franke, from after his wife was arrested for child abuse, he tells his story for the first time.

On the day that the Frankes' youngest son escaped from the Ivins, Utah, home of Ruby Franke's friend and business partner Jodi Hildebrandt, Kevin arrived at the Santa Clara-Ivins Police Department. He told the police he was looking for his two youngest children, who ABC News is referring to by their initials -- R and E -- to protect their privacy.

Initially uncertain of his involvement in the case, officers say they considered Kevin a suspect, and he was questioned.

Body camera footage shows Kevin Franke revealing the answer to the question being asked by investigators: Where was he while his wife and Hildebrandt abused R and E in the summer of 2023?

Kevin Franke explains to an officer that he was not living with Ruby and the children at the time and had had no contact with any of them: "I haven't seen them for over a year." Kevin appears visibly upset and dismayed throughout the police interview as investigators describe R and E’s conditions and the evidence of abuse being uncovered.

But even after hearing some of the details, and after the turmoil in their relationship, Kevin tells the investigators interviewing him, "I love my wife.” He says that he doesn't want to say anything to incriminate her.

Early in the investigation officers confirmed Kevin was not living with the family at the time of the abuse, and with no evidence tying him to the case, he was cleared as a suspect.

Franke tells investigators that he had moved out of the family home in Springville, Utah, two years after he and Ruby started working with a marriage counselor. Hildebrandt, a licensed therapist, was that counselor - the same woman who would later plead guilty to second-degree felony charges of aggravated child abuse alongside Ruby Franke.

Hildebrandt specialized in addiction treatment and worked mostly with couples and families from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

In new video released of his police interrogation, Kevin explains why he and Ruby separated: "The reasons are because of ways that I treated my wife and some of my own addictions that I was working through and seeking help on with um, with uh, pornography," Kevin said.

Kevin Franke's attorney, Randy Kester, told ABC News that much like some of her other clients, it was Jodi who falsely convinced Kevin that he had a problem with pornography. Kester denied that Kevin has ever looked at pornography.

Kester told ABC News that in hindsight, Kevin says that taking Hildebrandt's advice to separate from Ruby and his children ultimately damaged his family. "He realized that by taking her expert professional advice, that he was being manipulated."

Although pornography addiction is not recognized as a disorder by the American Psychiatric Association, some of Jodi Hildebrandt's former patients told "20/20" that she heavily focused on the issue of pornography addiction in their relationships, sometimes even at the expense of ignoring other issues that the couple was facing. Stephanie Jones, who, along with her ex-husband, sought Hildebrandt's therapy services from 2018-2019 said Hildebrandt used the term "addict" to describe all pornography usage.

"With Jodi, you look at it one time and you're an addict," Jones told "20/20." In her therapy group, Jones said that Hildebrandt had told many of the women to separate from their husbands, at least temporarily.

"Oh, your husband looked at porn, have him sleep on the couch downstairs. He masturbates, couch. Does it more than once, he should move out,’" she said, relaying the guidance she says women received from Hildebrandt.

Through a spokesperson, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints told ABC News, "While at one time [Hildebrandt] was on what is considered a community resource list for local leaders to refer members to for therapy, she was removed from the list in 2012.”

Detective Jessica Bate of the Santa Clara-Ivins Police Department said one of the final straws for the Franke marriage came when Hildebrandt moved into the couple's home after she had a crisis in her own home. Kevin was initially hesitant, but he says in his interview with the police that he was persuaded by Ruby to help Hildebrandt out.

Bate told ABC News' Juju Chang that Kevin Franke said this moment led to a shift in his marriage.

"Jodi really integrated herself, and she would go on their anniversary dinners. She would just be there," Bate said.

As this was all happening behind the scenes, the three were appearing in videos on social media accounts for ConneXions, the life coaching business that Hildebrandt founded. In one series of videos, the "Live Couples Workshop," Kevin and Ruby Franke are seen discussing topics like marriage and sex together, sometimes alongside Hildebrandt or other couples.

But by 2022, Ruby and Jodi appear together in numerous videos, and Kevin is notably absent. His disappearance from the ConneXions content overlaps with the timeline of when he moved out of the Franke home in July of that year, although he was still a therapy patient of Hildebrandt’s at that time.

Two weeks after the first police interview, Kevin Franke went to speak with the police a second time. This time, Kevin no longer defends his wife, and he describes in more detail what he says sessions with Hildebrandt were like after he and Ruby were separated: "Every week was just hell, psychological hell, and Jodi was running it."

Kevin has since filed for divorce, and he is currently seeking custody of his four youngest children. In January 2024, he filed a restraining order to block the sale of Jodi Hildebrandt’s house. In the filing, he’s asking for restitution to pay for the ongoing psychological care of the children.

Both Ruby Franke and Jodi Hildebrandt pleaded guilty to four second-degree felony charges of aggravated child abuse. They are now serving the same sentence, up to 30 years in prison with the possibility for parole.

A guide to the very best shopping in Moscow

Shopping in Moscow can be quite a daunting experience – you can walk for miles without finding anything but mass-market brands and overpriced boutiques. But, if you do it right, it can also be quite fun. Here are our top tips on how to get the most out of your shopping trip in Moscow.

Shopping malls 

There are many shopping malls all around Moscow, but there three that double as bona fide tourist attractions: GUM, TsUM and Detsky Mir, all within walking distance from each other. GUM is one of the oldest department stores in the country. It’s famous for the glass roof designed by one of Russia’s most celebrated architects, Vladimir Shukhov.  Today it serves as a high-class shopping mall. There are plenty of luxury shops, a supermarket that sells lots of signature Russian goods and several places to eat. Head to the more expensive  Bosco Cafe with a Kremlin view or, for a budget option, try the Soviet-style cafeteria Stolovaya No 57 . GUM also occasionally hosts contemporary art exhibitions in one of its three main aisles.

The Red Square and beyond: a guide to Moscow’s neighbourhoods

TsUM  is another shopping mall from the pre-revolutionary times. It’s the most luxurious store in the city, famous for its paper bags that many Muscovites carry around or post pictures of on Instagram to let everyone know they shop there. Full of haute couture boutiques, TsUM also has a rooftop restaurant Buro , frequented by Russian celebrities. Tsentralny Detsky Mir  children's store is perfect if you are looking for a gift for a kid or want to check out its awesome viewing platform with good views over central Moscow. At just R50 per ticket it’s a steal. 

Food stalls and markets 

There are two food markets that are worth checking out in Moscow.  Danilovsky Market  became the trailblazer of Moscow’s foodie revolution when it got an uplift in 2017. As well as many trendy food stalls, the market also hosts lectures, film viewing and even theatre productions, and it recently opened an antiques section. It’s an architectural landmark, a masterpiece of late Soviet modernism that looks like a UFO. Food at  Usachevsky Market  tends to be a bit more pricey and upmarket. Both markets also sell plenty of fresh produce, local cheeses and cured meats.

Antiques and flea markets 

Shopping can also be a way to get away from the major landmarks and explore some sights off the beaten path. Moscow’s #1 flea market is  Izmailovsky , located in and around the pseudo-historical complex 'Izmailovsky Kremlin' with its colourful walls and domes. Open daily, it’s best to come here on the weekend to catch better deals. Admittedly tacky, Kremlin has a handful of weird museums like the Vodka History Museum or Baba Yaga Museum (Baba Yaga is a Russian fairy tale character). Part of the market had been gentrified into creative cluster Vernissage , with hipster coffee shops, various workshops and Svalka , an enormous two-floor secondhand shop with everything from used books to vintage clothing.

For high-class antiques, rare books and icons head to Antikvarnaya Lavka (Antique Store) just off Bolshaya Nikitskaya street (5 Kalashny Pereulok). Here you can snag a real masterpiece – a painting or a sculpture – but the prices are quite steep. 

Four great day trips from Moscow

If you are looking for a more authentic place with less hustle, one option is the antiques market on the premises of vodka distillery Crystal (4 ul Samokatnaya), which you can reach by taking tram 20 to Samokatnaya ul from the exit of metro Chkalovskaya. The market is located in the basement of one of the red-brick factory buildings. There are plenty of antiques, books and various Soviet-time memorabilia, such as Stalin and Lenin busts. While at Crystal, be sure to check out great works of street art – they are all around the factory premises. 

For die-hard antique collectors there’s also a place right outside of Moscow – Novopodrezkovo market (also know as Levsha market). Take a suburban train from Leningradsky station to Novopodrezkovo (approximately half an hour), cross the tracks to the other side and there you’ll find it – a treasure trove of used books, vinyl records, clothing, paintings and antique furniture.   

Where to shop for Russian designs

Gosha Rubchinskiy might be the only Russian clothing designer of world renown, especially after his collaboration with Kanye West, but there are many more up-and-coming fashion stars worth checking out. One of the places to do it is KM20 , the place Moscow fashionistas, with streetwear brands from all over the world and a lot of very rare items. There's also one of the best vegetarian cafes in Moscow on second floor. 

GUM shopping mall has a two-storey store devoted to Russian designers –  Sektsiya (Section). Section sells products made by 50 Russian brands, from accessories to Heart of Moscow souvenir pins. Plus there’s a bar overlooking the Red Square. 

If you are not into high fashion, but still interested in getting a cool outfit with Cyrillic script, check out the creative cluster centred around two abandoned factories: Flakon and Khlebozavod . One of the biggest stores is Zaporozhets Heritage  at Flakon , which sells clothing and accessories styled after various Soviet pop culture icons. The northern part, Khlebozavod, hosts several shops like Yunost  and Khlebny  that take a more punk-rock approach to streetwear. After shopping, have a pint at a great local craft beer bar Svoboda  or a coffee at Floo .        

Sputnik 1985 is a Russian clothing brand specialising in hoodies and hats with quotes in Cyrillic and retro prints. The store is located in a courtyard on Pokrovka street (19 Ulitsa Pokrovka).
