I really have no way of judging...we are just interested in a Social Membership, new to the area, want to meet new people. To us, that means social events which include food and drink. However, as a prospective member (with no boat) you cannot try the food or drink for quality unless you join first... and being new to the area, don't yet know any members who would treat us or introduce us to the club. Kind of like buying by a car but can't test drive it first, or buying anything unseen, like a marriage before a date.
We attended a celebration here, and it was lovely. The location is perfect, right in Mission Beach, off of the Santa Clara parking lot. They have their own parking, which is a lifesaver in the summer. The club is definitely older in decor, but kept up well. Aside from the decor, the alcohol prices also transported me back in time. Drinks were about $5 each. Aside from our large party, there were many other members hosting small groups. They have a private beach area to get some sun, sand, and water. I miss living in MB!
I've been here a few times, and I've never had a bad experience. The staff are always friendly, though not always quick with your order. The grounds are beautiful, with outdoor showers, and bathrooms worthy of a Starbucks. Being that it's private property, you can drink alcohol on the beach - where else can you do that in San Diego?! My only complaint would be the parking - the lot is usually reserved for members only, and parking in nearby Mission Bay is nearly impossible. Despite that though, I always look forward to my next day at MBYC!
Gathering with work colleagues. Food: 4.5 Stars Atmosphere: 4.5 Stars Service: 4 Stars Best part of this place is the view. So beautiful. You can go to the bar and order a drink and/or food from the walk-up counter. I was there with about a dozen colleagues and everyone was happy with their meals and drinks. I had shrimp tacos that were amazing. The price is right, parking was easy, and there were plenty of places to eat. This could be a fun stop on a date night or a great location for a large group. Since the bar and dining area are separate, kids are welcome in the dining area. If you don't want kids around you can sit in the bar. For a casual night out this is a solid location.
Love the bar, their tasty menu and amazing chef, hosted events and we had our small wedding reception in the Fleet room. Jason the GM is wonderful and worked with us to create an amazing menu and a great party.

great place to spend weekend and watch sailors on the sea. Fish and chips are fresh and plus beer !!
After joining MBYC in 11/2022, I now spend many happy days here. Already traveled by sailboat, Kayak, Paddle Boat, bus, NCL Bliss Boat to Mexico, motor launch out to local waters and bike, I recommend the MBYC to anyone wanting fun. I celebrate all Holidays and most days meet new friends from around the world. Family Tradition here is huge and they have included me events I have dreamed about for years. Come join us, 'cause it's 5 o'clock somewhere, Cheers!
Could use a little updating, but the feel is very homey and they have a nice view for the Sea World Fireworks! I've been to their Friday dinners and I have enjoyed the outdoor seating by the water. I'll update this as I have more experiences here. :)
Driving here reminded me of a nightmare I had one night where we had to drive through all these little alleys, nooks and crannies to only hit a dead end and zombies started coming out and attacked us. I thought our GPS was going nuts when we were driving through these small roads, but low and behold, it dropped us off at this parking lot over the water. We weren't sure where the yacht club was but after pacing up and down, it was straight ahead, past the parking lot we parked in. The yacht club reminds me of a senior center I used to go to visit my grandfather, it had an old carpet smell to it and you to your left, at the bar, are some older gentlemen and women who are there to have a good time. We walked into the dining area, where our college alumni event was. Rather nice set up with a buffet line, cozy fire place and some nice deck views outside. The buffet food wasn't bad, not even sure if it's catered by the Yacht club, but I think my favorite part of being here was sitting out on the deck and watching the lit up yachts go by at night. Peaceful and serene.
I love this no frills yacht club! It's close to my apt and the staff is always friendly. Al at the bar pours a stiff drink for sure. No complaints there and the popcorn at the bar is a yummy snack while you have some cocktails. Jimmer is the best sailing coach around too.

El Carmel Point
In the Mission Bay area lies El Carmel Point, a small cape that forms San Juan Cove to the north and Santa Barbara Cove (otherwise known as Chicken Cove) to the south. It is a major location for boat launching in the bay.
The calm waters created by the bay make this an ideal spot for boating and rowing. Plus, Mission Bay is very expansive. There is plenty of room for both racing and casual boating.
El Carmel Point is home to the Mission Bay Yacht Club and the San Diego Rowing Club. Plenty of other people also launch their own boats and residents keep theirs in the surrounding coves.
While the beach area is relatively small, there is still sand to sit on while you look out on the water. If you are into boating and visiting San Diego, put this location on your to-visit list.

Things to Do
Why You’ll Love El Carmel Point
El Carmel Point is most notable for its boating activities. However, there are a few more reasons to enjoy visiting this cape in Mission Bay.
Mission Bay Yacht Club (MBYC)
El Carmel Point is home to the Mission Bay Yacht Club. Located on the south side of the cape, it has a history dating back to 1927.
The club is a center for racing sailboats in Mission Bay and out into the Pacific Ocean. It has boats competing at many different levels from juniors to regional regattas.
Additionally, the club offers classes for kids and a community for sailors in the area. As with many other sailing clubs, the Mission Bay Yacht Club spends a lot of time helping juniors get into sailing.
Visitors to the area can come and watch the boats racing. There are also regular events open to the public. Check out MBYC’s website for more details.
San Diego Rowing Clubs
There are several boathouses for rowing in the area. This includes the San Diego Rowing Club and the UCSD & USD rowing clubs.
The San Diego Rowing Club has been the area since around 1888 when it was founded as the Excelsior Rowing and Swim Club. It relocated to Mission Bay and the Coggeshall Rowing Center after A.W. Coggeshall, a longtime member, passed away in 1987 and left money to the club.
The rowing center also houses the universities’ rowing clubs in their own boat bays. Whenever the schools are in session, it is common to see rowing crews out in the bay early in the mornings.
Out of town rowers can join in the fun at the San Diego Rowing Club as a guest rower. There are no rentals, but guests can row with members.
Consistent Surf
On the ocean side of El Carmel Point in Mission Beach , there is very consistent surf that is ideal for surfers of all experience levels. The waves are beach breakers over a sandy bottom. They come in fast and fun with moderate power.
During the best days, the waves are average length, but they are typically less than 150 feet. Expect to see very few surfers there most days.
San Juan Cove Nature Preserve
On the north side of El Carmel Point lies San Juan Cove. This small cover is a nature preserve. If you want to just relax by the water and watch some of the boats and marine life, this is a pleasant place to do so.
There is a very small amount of sandy beach around the outside of the cove. This is far from prime San Diego beach . However, it is more than enough for relaxing for a little while.

How to Get There & Parking

To get to El Carmel Point, exit I-8 onto the West Mission Bay Drive heading northwest. Follow this to Mission Boulevard and turn right. Finally, turn right on El Carmel Place.
From the north, simply follow Mission Boulevard south. Turn left onto El Carmel Place after passing Santa Clara Point.
Parking at El Carmel Point
There is a parking lot used by the Mission Bay Yacht Club that is open 24/7 however they are only for members or their guests. Additionally, there is quite a bit of parking along El Carmel Place.
Despite the ample parking, it can get very busy, especially during races and events. If you are visiting during an event, try to arrive early.

SAVE-THE-DATE: MISSION BAY TO HOST “PARADE OF LIGHTS” ON SATURDAY, DECEMBER 10, 2022
The beloved holiday boat parade returns to the bay for its annual run, expecting more than 100 decorated boats to participate.
Mission Bay, the iconic destination within San Diego situated on 27 miles of sandy shoreline, announces the return of its beloved holiday boat parade, the “Mission Bay Parade of Lights,” on Saturday, December 10, 2022. Beginning at 5:30 p.m., the parade will start at SeaWorld with a firework kickoff, travel west, then north, and then east, ending at The Mission Bay Beach Club, with the full route taking about approximately two hours (full map can be viewed below). Spectators of this year’s parade can expect elaborate, decorated boats from local organizations like Rady Children’s Hospital, San Diego Loyal, and SeaWorld.
“The holiday boat parade has been a Mission Bay tradition since 1970, and we are thrilled to join in and amplify the holiday festivities,” shares George Allen, representative of Discover Mission Bay. “This year’s boat parade promises to be bigger and better than ever, and we look forward to welcoming families to Mission Bay and bringing holiday cheer to the San Diego community.”
“As the tradition of this annual holiday boat parade continues, it’s been a pleasure working with Discover Mission Bay to bring this year’s festivities to life,” adds Jason Proctor, General Manager of Mission Bay Yacht Club. “With this partnership, we’re able to create numerous designated viewing areas for locals and visitors to enjoy the parade unlike ever before.”
Free for all spectators to enjoy—including locals, visitors, and hotel guests—designated spectating areas will be set up around Mission Bay’s six hotels and resorts: Bahia Resort Hotel, Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa, The Dana on Mission Bay, Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Spa and Marina, Paradise Point Resort, and San Diego Mission Bay Resort. Each viewing area will offer special festive food & beverage menus and family-friendly activities to get into the holiday spirit, such as bonfires and s’mores, live music, holiday games, an appearance from Santa Claus himself, and more.
Awards will be presented to the best decorated boats across three categories: Best Sailboat, Best Powerboat, and People’s Choice, with local celebrity judges and all parade spectators participating in the voting and selection of winners. Prizes for first place and runners-up include accommodation and gift cards at select Mission Bay hotels, resorts, and restaurants.

3rd of July Fireworks on Mission Bay
This year, Mission Bay’s 3rd of July fireworks will take place starting at 9 p.m. launching from near Mission Bay Yacht Club, between the club’s shore and Crown Point Bridge.
Mission Bay, located on 27 miles of sandy shoreline in San Diego, announces the long-awaited return of its annual summer holiday firework show, taking place in the Bay at 9 p.m. on Sunday, July 3, 2023. After nearly ten years of absence, the July holiday fireworks show on Mission Bay is being brought back, entirely due to the overwhelming support and outcry of excitement from the local San Diego community, who collectively raised more than $45,000 in just a few weeks via a GoFundMe page started by Mission Bay Yacht Club’s Kathry Dryden, for the necessary permit and barge to be acquired. For nearly 30 years, fireworks lit up the summer night sky in Mission Bay and was the area’s most beloved tradition, but when the cost became too much for the Club’s budget, the show went dark in 2012.
