"Just the best!"

"We've done the larger sails out of South Haven, and they can be fun. But for a more intimate experience, we chose Sailing South Haven. Just my husband and I, and the captain and deck hand. The weather was perfect, and it was fun to get to pilot the sailboat for a bit. You can help as much (or as little) as you want. And of course, the BYOB is awesome. Definitely worth the price."

Cruising Lake Michigan in a Catamaran

Took the champagne sunset cruise on Saturday 8/22/20 and it was perfect. The crew (captain and first mate) were friendly and personable and treated us to a nice, relaxing cruise. Social distancing and mask use were required and it was a fun time had by all.

The captain and first mate were awesome! We took the Champagne sunset Cruise and enjoyed the scenery so much. Staff was friendly and good at their jobs for sure.

catamaran lake michigan

Great family time on the noon cruise. Good time for the sunshine. They are pleasant play nice music and you really relax and enjoy the scenery. highly recommend!

Great staff and fun time on the boat. I would definitely do it again. The drinks were amazing. Thank you.

catamaran lake michigan

With social distancing and COVID, the sail was just perfect. After COVID, I would leave it at 25 max, you still had the space to be in a world made for 2. Captain and bartender were nice and friendly making it a nice sail.

Nauticat never disappoints! As a TC native who comes home every year, a cannot say enough great things about this cruise. I have done the happy hour and sunset cruises and they are always a blast! I love that the location is easy to access, its great for all ages and you're practically guaranteed a good time. The only bad part is that eventually it has to end! The full bar is always a plus, but plenty of non-alcoholic beverages available too and very family friendly. They had great Covid-19 protocols which were much appreciated; masks must be worn while roaming about the boat and they have reduced their capacity to maintain social distancing. 100% always recommend!!

The schooner.

Manitou is one of the largest sailing ships on the Great Lakes, constructed with modern materials but similar in design to vessels that sailed one hundred years ago. She was built specifically for passenger service, making her one of the most comfortable Windjammers afloat.

catamaran lake michigan

Our licensed captain has many years of experience, and with the professional crew, you can rest assured you’re in good hands. Manitou meets or exceeds all U.S. Coast Guard regulations for construction, stability, safety equipment and electronics for vessels in passenger service. If the wind should fail, the sturdy diesel engine powers her swiftly to the next destination. Because of her size and design, she ensures a comfortable relaxing sail for all. Manitou is two-masted, gaff rigged, topsail schooner, 114 feet in length with over 3,000 square feet of sail, and displaces (weighs) over one hundred tons. Up to twenty-four passengers can enjoy the pleasure and thrill of sailing aboard Manitou .

DESTINATIONS

Located at the base of beautiful West Grand Traverse Bay, Traverse City, MI is the vibrant homeport for Manitou . Traverse City’s unique shops and galleries, as well as its many high-quality restaurants, are sure to enhance your sailing adventure.

Remove yourself from the trappings of modern life while aboard Manitou : no TV, phone (cell phones are discouraged), or email, and definitely no itinerary. The wind and weather conditions help determine our course, and after a good day of sailing we drop anchor at one of a variety of possible destinations. We may take in a little local color at a historic fishing village such as St. James on Beaver Island, or visit one of Michigan ‘s oldest general stores (est. 1839) while at Old Mission Harbor. The storekeeper will recount its fascinating history while serving up a genuine fountain soda or ice cream. Enjoy a little wine tasting in Omena Bay, or hunt for an ancient Petoskey Stone while beachcombing in Cathead Bay. A wealth of islands, bays, anchorages and coastal villages are within our reach.

catamaran lake michigan

ABOARD SHIP

Life aboard the Manitou is fun and informal. The object here is to slow down and take things as they come. Discover the lost art of conversation with newfound friends, read a good book, marvel at the breathtaking array of stars, get back in touch with yourself. Many folks have told us that this is the best stress reliever they have ever found. While underway, you are free to leave the sailing to our experienced crew or lend a hand and learn the arts of the sailor. After Manitou tucks into a snug anchorage for the evening, take out our sea kayaks or rowing dinghy for a little exploration. Beachcombing is special fun for those who would like to further enjoy the beauty of many of our destinations.

catamaran lake michigan

You’ll love the food on Manitou . Our healthy menus will satisfy the heartiest of seagoing appetites, with emphasis on Manitou specialties, fresh fruits, and produce of the region. Our galley staff will delight you with bountiful home cooked meals turned out of the ship’s galley. All of the cooking is done on our wood-fired stove, and is served either family style in the main cabin or as a wonderful buffet on deck. Beverages such as juice, tea, and coffee are provided during meals. Soft drinks may be brought on board and stored in your cabin or in ice chests provided on deck.

catamaran lake michigan

ACCOMMODATIONS

Manitou accommodates twenty-four passengers in twelve double cabins. Each is nicely appointed but simple and rustic with two sturdy built-in bunks and electric lighting. They are clean, cozy, comfortable, and supplied with fresh linens, towels and warm blankets. All of the cabins and entries have plenty of headroom and windows which can be opened for ventilation. Passengers look after their own cabins and keep them “shipshape.” Skylights and seating areas around the ship’s various cabin sections add to the overall comfort for conversation or an intimate encounter with a good book. The ship’s marine heads (toilets) and hot showers are conveniently located on deck.

Lake Michigan Ferry Routes Map: Your Guide to Exploring the Great Lakes

Lake Michigan Ferry Routes Map: Your Guide to Exploring the Great Lakes

**Short answer lake michigan ferry routes map:** Lake Michigan ferry routes are served by three main operators: the Lake Express, the S.S. Badger, and the Milwaukee Clipper. Visitors to the region can use this map to plan their trips and enjoy scenic views of the Great Lakes.

Understanding the Lake Michigan Ferry Routes Map: A Comprehensive Guide

If you’re planning to travel across Lake Michigan, then understanding the ferry routes map is crucial. Being the second-largest of the Great Lakes and one of the most beautiful in North America, Lake Michigan offers an array of options for tourists, travelers, and locals alike when it comes to crossing its waters. However, it can be challenging to understand the various ferry routes if you’re unfamiliar with them.

Don’t worry – in this comprehensive guide, we’ll break down each ferry route and help you navigate your way around Lake Michigan.

First, let’s understand what a ferry route map is. A ferry route map shows all the possible routes that ferries take across any given water body or lake . These maps are particularly helpful in giving passengers an overview of how they can reach their destinations by boat.

Now onto our guide:

1. Ludington to Manitowoc This route operates daily from May through September and takes between 2-3 hours depending on weather conditions . The S.S Badger carferry takes passengers across a picturesque route that’s sure to provide stunning views of both shores as you cross from Michigan to Wisconsin or vice versa.

2. Chicago to Muskegon The Lake Express Catamaran runs this route during summer months offering an efficient 2-hour connecting service between two vibrant cities overlooking Lake Michigan. Both end points are rich with culture so hop on board and experience more than just the comfort of your ride!

3. Milwaukee to Muskegon Another connectivity option between these two iconic places is offered by another catamaran known as the “Lake Express”. With this trip taking approximately 2½hrs for a cost-efficient ticket price compared with other alternatives; it’s become much easier now for visitors who prefer traveling via ship over roadways sacrificing breathtaking views while enroute.

4.Chicago Shoreline Sightseeing For those not in need of transportation but who want to see Chicago from a different angle, a riverboat cruise offers a great option. These tours are offered from April through November and showcase some of the city’s most iconic buildings and landmarks .

5. Manitowoc/Algoma to Washington Island This route might not be on every tourist ‘s list, but it is worth considering. The ferry ride takes passengers to the remote Washington Island located between Michigan Bay and Green Bay – home to Whitefish Dunes State Park, Schoolhouse Beach. Algoma serves as an alternative port for some organizations or major civic events during peak traveling season when Manitowoc pier becomes congested.

In conclusion to all five routes on this comprehensive guide are provided by trusted ferry operators providing comfortable, safe sailing with experienced crew members who strive their utmost best for catering your every need while en-route so that you can sit back, relax and take in all that Lake Michigan has to offer. Happy travels!

How to Navigate the Lake Michigan Ferry Routes Map like a Pro

Are you planning a trip to the Great Lakes region and want to explore all the beauty and adventure that Lake Michigan has to offer? Well, you’re in luck! The Lake Michigan Ferry Routes Map can help guide your journey , ensuring that you get to where you need to go with ease.

But before we dive into how to navigate this map like a pro, let’s take a quick look at what it is. This map showcases all of the ferry routes available for traveling across Lake Michigan – offering travelers an exciting way to explore new places while enjoying the stunning views of one of America’s largest freshwater lakes. There are several ferry companies that operate on Lake Michigan, each with its own unique route and schedule.

So now, let’s get into some tips on how to navigate this map like a true professional.

1. Determine your starting point: The first step in navigating the Lake Michigan Ferry Routes Map is determining where your journey will begin. Are you starting from Wisconsin or Michigan? Knowing your starting location will help narrow down which ferries are best suited for you.

2. Choose Your Destination: Once you have identified your starting point, it’s time to choose your destination(s). If you’re looking for adventure-packed destinations like Mackinac Island or Door County – the ferry operators already market these as excellent ways seeing these locations up from water perspective.

3. Check Schedules No travel plan would be complete without checking schedules beforehand – unless freedom and flexibility are what travelers after!

4. Purchase Tickets/ Make Reservations Once everything lines up with schedules, it’s time to purchase tickets/reserve spots for the desired sailings– usually done through online booking or by calling ahead.

5. Arrive Early It goes without saying- arrive early! Especially during peak season demand runs high on varying routes- showing up last minute would limit chances if any availability left over (unless freestyle traveler mindset likes resetting plans at the whim of chance availability). It’s always better to be early than late and getting stuck waiting for another available slot.

6. Gather Information on Amenities Different ferries have different amenities, so make sure to gather information about things like food availability or pet-friendly accommodations if needed. Some ferries offer specific seating arrangements (for example, large comfy seats in the cabin that would cost extra) also make some inquiries how crowded it might get during peak travel times offering a more comfortable experience earlier purchase might offer additional value.

7. Enjoy Lake Michigan’s beauty Finally, once you’ve navigated your way through the Lake Michigan Ferry Routes Map and boarded your chosen ferry route- start enjoying some of America’s most beautiful lake views! Kick back with an enjoyable book, chat with friends (if travelling in numbers), and take in all that nature has to offer along the way.

In conclusion, there are plenty of ways travelers can make their trip a success when travelling on Lake Michigan’s ferry routes. Whether you’re looking for adventure-packed destinations or simply a new way of seeing familiar sights- utilizing ferry service offers spectacular experiences throughout summer months! By following these tips above – navigating this lake map like a pro will guarantee cruising success during this upcoming summer!

Step-by-Step Guide: Using the Lake Michigan Ferry Routes Map for Your Next Adventure

Are you tired of the same old highway scenery and endless traffic during your travels? It’s time to change up your adventure game and hop on a Lake Michigan ferry! But before you set sail, you need to have the right tools for the job. In this guide, we’ll show you how to use the Lake Michigan Ferry Routes Map to plan out your next epic journey.

Step 1: Accessing The Map

The first thing you need to do is access the map itself. This can be done by searching for “Lake Michigan Ferry Routes Map” online or visiting a travel information center in person . Once you have obtained a copy of the map, it’s time to put it to work!

Step 2: Examining The Map

Now that you have the map in your hands, take some time to examine it. Familiarize yourself with all of its features and symbols, including routes, ports of call along each route, schedules, fare prices, and more. Take note of which routes will help you reach your desired destination most efficiently.

Step 3: Choosing Your Route

Once you’ve reviewed all available routes on the map and are clear on each schedule and fare price; it’s time figure out which route is best suited for you. Consider things such as distance traveled versus costs involved versus sightseeing opportunities along each route. Keep in mind that some routes run only during specific months or days of the week.

Step 4: Reserving Your Ticket

Once you’ve selected your intended route itinerary be sure check if reservations are needed or required prior boarding; always keep updated about any pandemic restrictions may apply.. Some ferries don’t require reservations at all while others do especially during high peak tourist season such as summer how ever be prepared book ahead when deciding taking alternative ones like faster options due limited service schedules etc can make their remaining ticket stock vanish quickly.

Step 5: Finally…It’s Time to Board!

It’s finally time to embark on your lake adventure ! Arrive at the port of call early enough and keep in mind that compliance with COVID safety measures ! Once on board, take note of any rules or regulations from the crew and pay attention to all announcements being made over the loudspeaker.

In conclusion, road tripping is still a classic way to travel just like back in the old days. However, there’s something about voyaging by water that provides an altogether different kind of thrill – one you won’t forget for years to come. Follow our step-by-step guide using the Lake Michigan Ferry Routes Map for your next adventure; and you’re sure enjoy the best experience possible from planning up until docking into each port along the journey. Happy sailing, mateys!

Also, should you have any questions or require assistance in navigating the waterways, captain/crew members are usually more than happy to help out.

7. Can I book my ferries online? Most operators now offer online booking services like purchase of tickets via website/app – simplifying travel plans 365 days of the year. But don’t forget there’s still merit on talking directly with a representative via phone or email address provided by operator’s’ website for additional assurances!

8. What documents should be brought along when using Lake Michigan Ferries? Travelers are advised to bring along government-issued identification documents such as driver’s licenses/passport/citizenship card etc., proof of car registration/insurance and of course required tickets/receipts upon boarding any ferry operating in/on waters adjoining Lake Michigan.

Before embarking on your journey around Lake Michigan, be sure you have all necessary information regarding transport and maps so as best enjoy seamless travels ! Happy sailing 🙂

Discovering Hidden Gems with the Lake Michigan Ferry Routes Map

As an avid traveler and explorer, I always enjoy discovering new hidden gems and off-the-beaten-path destinations. So when I stumbled upon the Lake Michigan Ferry Routes Map, I knew it would be a game-changer for my future journeys.

The Lake Michigan Ferry Routes Map is a comprehensive guide to the ferry routes that operate throughout the Great Lakes, specifically connecting various cities along the western coast of Lake Michigan. The map displays the different ferry lines available, including their routes, schedules, and fares – making it easy for travel enthusiasts like myself to plan and execute memorable trips.

What’s impressive about this map is how it opens up opportunities for picturesque coastal adventures that would otherwise be unreachable by car or plane. It presents itself as a convenient alternative to long hours on highways or costly flights with little scenery.

For instance, one could hop on board at Ludington in Michigan and travel across Lake Michigan towards Wisconsin-based Manitowoc. Here you could explore local sites like the Rahr-West Art Museum or take part in exciting outdoor activities such as kayaking or hiking.

Another interesting option is venturing out towards Muskegon’s large Ludington; famous for its ‘Little Sable’ lighthouse situated within an expansive state park that stretches five miles down from its windswept beachfront.

One can’t forget about Kewaunee County’s Ahnapee State Trail located deep into wondrous forests of WI partway between Sturgeon Bay & Green Bay.

These are just some examples of how using the Lake Michigan Ferry Routes map helps travelers discover some of lake-front mid-west gems ! Whether exploring quaint towns dotted around its peripheries to embracing nature through bike trails or more adventurous pursuits such as fishing – there is something for everyone through these waterways which link over 1200 bends harbours and ports together

So next time you’re planning your travels across Midwest USA (or international) area – grab yourself a copy of the Lake Michigan Ferry Routes Map. I can guarantee that it will be an essential tool in unearthing hidden travel gems while uncovering some of nature’s most breathtaking scenery in all its coastal glory!

Exploring Lake Michigan’s Beauty through its Ferry Routes with this Handy Map

Lake Michigan is the third largest of the Great Lakes, and it offers an abundance of natural beauty that is best experienced by ferry. Whether you’re a local Michigander or just visiting the area, exploring Lake Michigan’s islands and scenic coastlines through its ferry routes is an absolute must-do experience. And to make things easier for you, we’ve put together this handy map that details some of the most popular ferry routes on Lake Michigan.

One of the top ferry routes on Lake Michigan is the route between Ludington, Michigan and Manitowoc, Wisconsin. This route takes approximately four hours to complete and offers stunning views of Lake Michigan’s crystal-clear waters. Onboard amenities include comfortable seating areas, food and drink options, outdoor viewing decks to get up close with nature, and more!

Another fantastic option for exploring Lake Michigan’s beauty through its ferry routes is the classic Mackinac Island ferry from either St Ignace or Mackinaw City in northern Michigan. This route takes visitors over some of the Great Lakes’ most famous landmarks – including the iconic Mackinac Bridge – before arriving at one of America’s true gems: Mackinac Island. The island has no cars allowed on it so visitors can enjoy scenic bike rides around its perimeter as well as explore its historic downtown .

For those looking for something a little closer to home (or their hotel), there are many shorter island-hopping tours available throughout various parts of Lake Michigan. From Chicago’s Navy Pier countless sailboats take visitors out into open water with stops at numerous spots within running distance: Treasure Island near Hammond or North Beach in Racine; both boast lovely beaches perfect for picnics or games like frisbee; while also featuring beautiful marinas where captains know all about unique destinations alsonside more traditional tourist spots such as restaurants. But no matter which route you choose, you’re ensured incredible views that are simply impossible to match.

In conclusion, exploring Lake Michigan’s beauty through its ferry routes is an ideal way to experience natural beauty and unforgettable scenery at its finest. And with the help of this handy map, planning your perfect Lakeside journey has never been easier. So set sail today and witness all the magic firsthand!

Marine News from the Great Lakes

Discover a smooth ride on the great lakes with a power catamaran.

Published: Saturday, September 29, 2012 7:00 am By: Great Lakes Powercats

In the rough waters off Australia and South Africa, all rescue boats, police boats, and close to half of recreational boats are power catamarans. Along the east coast of the United States, power catamarans are fast becoming popular among fishing and cruising boaters who often venture out in rough conditions. Closer to home here in the Great Lakes, the Arnold Ferry service to Mackinac Island runs cats, and the Lake Michigan ferry is a catamaran, too.

Why? Because cats are safe, stable, fast, fuel efficient, and draw very little water.  But the biggest reason Aussies, South Africans and offshore anglers choose cats is they provide the smoothest ride on rough waters. When the waters are rough, smart boaters are turning to the catamaran’s stable ride and seaworthy safety. The ride and protection afforded by cats is so extraordinary, they can add an extra month of boating time to the Great Lakes boating season in the spring and the fall.

In the US, 85% of the power catamarans are built by the PowerCat Group under the Glacier Bay, World Cat, Carolina Cat and Livingston brands. They are all powered by quiet and efficient four-stroke outboard engines, and just one ride on a cat in rough water makes a believer out of boating enthusiasts.

Now, here is the great news: these cats are finally getting to the Great Lakes. Dave Gray and Joe Kostrzewa, from Traverse City, Michigan, have been partners in various ventures spanning over 40 years. They owned Power Cat Group cats in Florida for years and could not understand why the boats were not in the Great Lakes. To introduce cats to the Great Lakes, they teamed up with Brad Koster, the owner of EJ Mertaugh’s Boat Works in Hessel, Michigan, and working with Andrew Brown, President of the Power Cat Group, and formulated their latest venture: Great Lakes Power Cats, LLC.

Great Lakes Power Cats, LLC is now the exclusive Midwest distributor (including all of the Great Lakes and Canada) for the world’s largest power catamaran builder, the Power Cat Group. Great Lakes Power Cats represents four brands and 25 models of Glacier Bay, World Cat, Carolina Cat and Livingston catamarans ranging from 8’ to 34’.

The main goal of Great Lakes Power Cats is to develop the territory with quality dealers and representatives who can enthusiastically demonstrate the unique performance of these special vessels. The first dealer on board was Mertaugh’s in Hessel, Michigan. The next large dealer group to join was Jefferson Beach Marina, with locations in St. Clair Shores, Grand Haven and Charlevoix, Michigan, as well as Toledo, Ohio and Chicago, Illinois. In addition, Bay Breeze Yacht Charters out of Traverse City has become a representative and has a Glacier Bay 2770 available for demonstration and charter.  As the dealer network has grown, catamaran boats have sold well as Great Lakes boaters discover the ride and comfort that Joe and Dave experienced with their own boats on Florida’s Gulf Coast.

Joe and Dave know that the catamaran ride is key to making boaters into “believers.” Accordingly, Great Lakes Power Cats and its dealers have demo boats of various sizes available in the Michigan ports of Traverse City, Hessel, Grand Haven and St. Clair Shores. The group is continuing to expand the dealer and representative network, looking for top dealers in Northern Wisconsin, the East shore of Michigan, Canada, and Lakes Erie and Ontario.

You can reach Great Lakes Power Cats at 1-877-292-6543. Visit them at www.greatlakespowercats.com or www.powercatgroup.com to learn more about the cats or to schedule a sea trial.
