Excellent sunset sail tour! We really enjoyed it and the hosts/sail staff were very knowledgeable of the historic nature of where we were viewing. It was smooth sailing to say the least and very relaxing on a beautiful fall day in Newport, RI. They offer you beer, wine or soda during the ride.

Stu and Hillary made this sailboat ride exceptional. Not only was the ride beautiful, smooth and amazing for a first time sailboat ride but they were the icing on the cake. Their personalities were refreshing, funny, and professional all in one especially Stu. I loved how he allowed my son to raise the sail and help dock the boat at the end. He engaged with Stu and learned a lot so much so that he wants to learn more about sailboats and handling them. The tidbits of information from the area and little facts were great! This was a great experience and phenomenal way to end our first weekend in Newport! Captain Ben was great too! Thanks!!!

AWESOME experience! Crew is incredibly friendly; from the welcoming staff at the counter to the crew on the ship, they are ALL striving to ensure you have a wonderful experience. I have done both the "Morning Glory Sail" as well as the "Champagne Sunset Sail" and can attest to them both worth your time. I can not think of a better way to experience Newport's harbor and Narragansett Bay. Wes, the Skipper on both my sails, was very engaging and ready to pass on information (while still remaining very attentive to his Skipper responsibilities). Wes was ready to spin a yarn, doing so in such a way that you hang on and believe every word. I must sadly admit he had me believing the "tale of John Cable" (local swimmer who became such a hazard of navigation they laid down buoys marking the place where he swam "across" the harbor each morning) explaining the buoys marking the "Cable Crossing!" LOL Love these guys!!! Moi

The 4 gentleman crew were amazing! They were very personable and responsible! They were very knowledgeable about the local nautical history and maritime landmarks along the sail. The Madeline was very clean and comfortable. Complementary ginger ale and water were available! We had a wonderful time and highly recommend it. Good value for the money too!

Really enjoyed the sail. All female sailing crew and captain, which was totally awesome! Would do it again. Recommended for sure.

We had an absolutely gorgeous day to sail and the crew was amazing! Only downside was that we were on the scenic cruise with only ginger ale and water offered... unless you knew the crew. While we all sailed, a group of girls were able to constantly drink the champagne from the previous trip in front of the rest of us. They easily each had 4 drinks. Guess you have to know the right people to take advantage on the ride. Probably a good idea to be more secretive about providing champagne on cruises to friends when it's not offered to guest.

Went on sail boat ride, and the crew are so attentive and knowledgeable about the area. Anna in training to be a captain. We were impressed with the cruise, also the non-slip seats. Thank you crew for a nice ride!

Schooner Aquidneck

Sailing cruises aboard Aquidneck are often the highlight of a visit to Newport.  Aquidneck is a beautiful and comfortable schooner for a relaxing Newport sailing cruise.

Aquidneck is named after Aquidneck Island where Newport, Rhode Island is located, and is an Indian name meaning ‘Isle of peace’.

She is an elegant and accurate reproduction of a late 1800s coasting schooner that was built specifically to take guests sailing in safety and comfort.

Aquidneck was built on Long Island in Southampton, New York by a family who has been shipbuilding since the 1600s!

She is one of several schooners designed by world-famous naval architect Charles Wittholz whose plans are archived in Mystic Seaport.

Aquidneck has plenty of comfortable places to sit and spread out including teak benches with backrests,  chair-height cabin tops and deck boxes.  She has wide side decks making it easy for guests to get up, move about, take pictures, and socialize with ease.  Her layout enables one to easily look outboard to enjoy the sights as well as have a conversation.

Aquidneck’s traditional full keel design provides for a smooth and stable sailing experience.  Since you sail the protected waters of Narragansett Bay, queasiness is never an issue. As one of our regular guests commented, “She rides like a Cadillac!”

Sailors and non-sailors alike enjoy their sail on Aquidneck.  Guests may help raise sails, take the helm or sit back and relax. Sailing experience is not required!

Sail through Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay past all the famous sights including Fort Adams, Hammersmith Farm, Clingstone and Newport’s Ocean Drive.  Our captains and crew are knowledgeable about all the sights and will provide light, informative commentary.

We have blankets for cool evenings and light rain ponchos in the event of a passing shower.

For private charters, we have a large, elegant, mahogany table that holds caterer platters, as well as several Igloo coolers to hold beer, wine or champagne. On this unique sailing trip, you’ll:

* Sip prosecco, wine or beer at $6 or $7 per beverage, a rum cocktail at $6, soda at $2 per beverage and water is $1. * Enjoy views of stately waterfront, Narragansett Bay mansions with gardens of different species from around the world * Catch a glimpse of Hammersmith Farm – the former Summer Whitehouse of JFK and the site where the couple took their vows.

**Sails often sell out, so please check the website or call once you know when you would like to attend to check availability for public trips and to book as early as possible.**

If the date you are looking for is not currently listed in the schedule, please check back at this website frequently for updates. New events and sail times are added quite frequently, especially as the sail date draws near. Sails run May through October! 

What Is Not Included? * Food is not served during the sail, but please feel free to bring your own picnic! * The price of drinks is not included in the cost of your ticket, so please bring extra cash. Due to environmental concerns, water bottles supplied or purchased by the customer are filled for free, bottles of water purchased aboard are $1. Stainless water bottles for sale at our booth for $10.00. Meeting Location * Bowen’s Wharf at America’s Cup Ave & Mill St (Newport, RI) * (Exact meeting location details will be provided immediately upon purchase of tickets.) Policies Refund/Rescheduling Policy **Non-refundable, can be rescheduled with 24 hours notice.** Once purchased, tickets cannot be refunded. You may reschedule your tickets (subject to availability) only if you do so at least 24 hours in advance.

Weather Policy **Activity may be canceled due to severe weather.** The activity usually runs in light rain and other moderate weather conditions, but the seller may cancel the activity up to an hour before the start time in the event of severe or unsafe weather conditions. If the seller cancels the event, ticket-holders will be allowed to reschedule tickets (subject to availability), receive credit for a future event, or receive a refund.

Other Policies

**Must be at the booth at least 5 minutes prior to departure.** If you have not called and are not at the booth for check in at least 5 minutes prior to departure, we reserve the right to resell your ticket on sold out sails. If we do resell your ticket we will reschedule you to another sail or refund your purchase price. Please allow enough time to park and get to our dock. We don’t want you to miss your sail with us.

Sailing with the Madeline in Newport, RI

What a wonderful day of sailing on the Madeline out of Newport, RI. The crew was great and it was a very relaxing day and great sights. There were not many people the day we went - they have 3 or 4 trips a day - this was on a week day - the hour and 1/2 goes by very fast. Great way to spend the day. Been on it before - always great.

I had an excellent time taking the 90 minute harbor tour on the Adirondack II. The crew was very attentive to our requests and knowledgeable about the historic landmarks. Alot of fun and a great way to enjoy a afternoon on the water. A Newport must do.

Great crew, very friendly and enthusiastic. Nice calm sail to see a spectacular sunset on the bay. Refreshments available to purchase for a decent price, no gouging here ..... Highly recommend!!

They did a great job sailing the boat, firendly and comedic staff on board, however, I personally got unexpectedly nervous the whole time that we were going to flip over. The boat leans a lot more then I expected to one side so I had a hard time enjoying the sites fearing was going to go overboard. I grew up going on a boat every summer but not a sail boat. If you love sailing and don't let the fear of tipping over bother you, this could be a great hour and a half of sailing.

My husband and I went on the sunset cruise and had a wonderful time. The crew was fantastic. They gave an informative history of the bay like they were conversing with you, not just rattling out facts. The other passengers were great. We were "friends" for the hour and 1/2. Even though it was not a "spectacular" sunset (out of their control) it was a gorgeous view and spectacular cruise around the harbor. We live in RI and this was just a night out for us. Sailing around the harbour enjoying a glass of wine or an angry orchard was so relaxing. Highly recommend this for anyone who would like to see Newport from the sea.

We had friends visiting from Colorado who obviously don't spend a lot of time near the ocean, so we took them to Newport and South County. One of our stops was for the Dark and Stormy cruise operated by Sail Newport. The online ticketing process was very easy, as was check-in when we got to Bowen's Wharf. The tour left right on time and was run by a very informative crew. Once we were under sail, they broke out the drinks...very affordable wine, beer, and "dark and stormy" brew...a local combo of rum and ginger soda. As we sailed around the harbor, one of the crew acted as guide, giving us tidbits of both historical and current information of the sights we were sailing by. The trip lasted approx. 90 minutes. If you're looking for a nice, relaxing, and informative trip on the water, you will not be disappointed with this cruise. The only recommendation I have for the operator is to offer a longer cruise. The only way you can get that is to charter the boat. I bet if they offered a 3-4 hour cruise, folks would line up for it.
