Golfo Aranci is a picturesque coastal town on the northeast coast of Sardinia . Depending on which coastal region of Sardinia you want to explore, there are also other starting ports. Alghero on the west coast, Carloforte on the island of San Pietro off the Sardinian southwest coast, or Cagliari in the very south of the island.

The town offers everything you need for a pleasant stay: Stores, restaurants, bars and supermarkets are all within easy walking distance. The port of Golfo Aranci is well equipped and offers a wide range of services for sailors, including a gas station, electricity and water connections and sanitary facilities.

If you spend a day in Golfo Aranci, take a walk along the coast and enjoy the breathtaking views of the surrounding beaches and turquoise sea. Visit the Golfo Aranci market to sample local products such as cheese, wine and olive oil. If you are interested in the history of the region, you can visit the archaeological museum, which houses a collection of artifacts from the Nuraghic culture. For a day at the beach, you can visit the nearby Cala Sassari beach, known for its crystal clear waters and fine sand.

Arrival: To get to Golfo Aranci in Sardinia, there are several options. The most common option is to arrive by plane. There are direct flights from various German airports to Olbia, which is located about 20 kilometers south of Golfo Aranci. Portisco is only a few kilometers from Olbia and the airport there and therefore a popular starting point for sailing trips to the Maddalena archipelago or along the Costa Smeralda . In Porto Rotondo the "rich and beautiful" of Sardinia cavort. Don't enjoy a takeoff from here without first taking a stroll along the beach promenade. If you choose Porto Rotondo as a stopover in summer, you will have to reckon with high port fees. You can also start from Olbia itself. The coast to the south past Isola Tavolara is a somewhat less frequented sailing area than the north of Sardinia. However, the rugged coastline with its many bays and white sandy beaches offers its charms as well. In general, sailing around Sardinia requires constant attention. Often there are shoals and reefs in the shore area. Therefore, and because of the sometimes rougher wind conditions, the area is more suitable for more experienced crews. Beginners, who are nevertheless drawn to Sardinia, can also book a skipper for just a few days to further improve their skills in this fantastic setting. Motorboat: This covers a wide variety of boats from a motor yacht with cabins to a private boat trip for a fishing trip but all of the these are comfortable seagoing boats with a kick of speed should you want to cover a bigger distance on the day.​

RIB: Very much day boats for fishing and day cruising, RIBs are a lot of fun for a day afloat. They can be very quick and are great should you be in a town on holiday and fancy seeing the coast or finding secluded sandy beaches to get away from it all.

Captained Yacht Charter or Bareboat

In some cases captains will also be the yacht or boat owners (typically day trips) which means they will know all the best secluded beaches to show you the best that the area has to offer with their local knowledge.

For day trips you will often be able to use a captain as well and prices will vary depending on the type of boat.

Bareboat Yacht Charter: For skilled sailors, a bareboat charter is cheaper and gives more privacy for you and your charter guests. Many sailors prefer to be helming the boat while choosing their own course, and provided you have the knowledge and relevant qualifications you can captain these boats (typically up to 54 feet/16.5 metres in length) yourself.

Do You Need A Licence To Charter A Yacht In Golfo Aranci

RYA Qualifications: If you have the following qualifications you will be able to take a bareboat charter out of Golfo Aranci, these include Day Skipper (sail or motor endorsement), Coastal Skipper or Yachtmaster.

American Sailing Association (ASA): The ASA 104 Bareboat certificate is commonly accepted.

US Sailing: The International Proficiency Certificate is widely accepted and The Bareboat Cruising Certificate is also accepted in many cases.

The main points to consider are what is your budget, have you got the necessary sailing experience and qualifications to manage the boat if it's not going to have a skipper, whom you are taking sailing, where exactly you wish to go and what will the weather be like on the proposed dates of your trip.

​You will typically pay 50% up front on booking the yacht hire and the balance on arrival. You will either pay a security deposit with your credit card on departure or can get insurance covering damage in advance. In some cases (such as the recent Covid situation) charter companies may be more flexible but this depends on the individual charter companies themselves.

If you are at sea and in danger, call MAYDAY on VHF Ch16 or ring the coast guard on your phone if you have reception. If you have a mechanical fault and can make it to or are on a mooring you will be able to phone a help line number given by the boat charter company.

You should consider do you have the experience to handle the yacht charter or boat rental before you book and where do you want to go along with what the weather will be like. Bring warm weather and cool weather clothing if it looks like the weather can be cool as well as warm and remember at sea it can be cool on most evenings.
