Light, stiff and highly carvable. The Drop Hammer is a great for anyone looking to spice up their commute, carve down a mellow hill, get rad on their way to class or just get out for an afternoon ride with friends. Drop mounted, symmetrical and packed full of awesomeness!

The Drop Hammer is a symmetrical drop-through longboard measuring 36.5″ long and 10″ wide. Its low ride height makes it an ideal city commuter and its medium concave and reasonably stiff construction make it a perfect board for an introduction to freeriding and carving on bigger hills. The Drop Hammer has been modified slightly for 2020 to work with the new Grizzly Gen 6 180mm trucks for maximum turning and super deep carves. 70mm Hawgs Supremes finish the set up off for super smooth slides.

Landyachtz Drop Hammer Review: Comfortable, Pushable, Stable

Sharing is caring!

The Drop Hammer from Landyachtz is a classic mid-sized drop-through longboard ideal for smooth and comfortable cruising and responsive carving. It offers a very wide deck with exceptional foot space for cruising.

Yet, the Drop Hammer is relatively compact and lightweight for a symmetrical drop-through board, making it a good option for everyday commutes. It’s also very suitable for carving down small hills and pushing longer distances.

Table of Contents

Whom/what is the Drop Hammer good for?

what is the Drop Hammer good for?

Commuting and pushing

A few things make the Drop Hammer a fine commuter boar:

  • Comfortable for pushing: the drop-through design makes the board ride lower to the ground compared to a topmount, making it very suitable for push commuting distance.
  • Wide foot platform: the Drop Hammer deck is 10″ in width – which is quite wide. This also makes it comfortable to ride for long periods of time including with a bigger shoe size.
  • Decently portable: the midsize shape of the Drop Hammer makes it OK to carry around on a train or into a store – although its width still gives it some bulk.
  • The large (72mm) soft (78A) Hawgs wheels allow for fast riding on diverse terrain. You get a lot of roll for your kicks.

Cruising and carving

  • The wide foot platform makes the Drop Hammer very comfortable for cruising. The super smooth Bear Grizzly trucks and the soft and grippy wheels also contribute to the cruising pleasure on this board.
  • This board can carve hard for a drop-through. The Bear trucks are known for their responsiveness, and the huge cutouts give the board tons of wheel clearance for tight turns on a hill.

Although it’s not designed to be a high-speed downhill board, the Drop Hammer makes a pretty good beginner to intermediate freeride board due to its twin shape (switch riding), carving ability, but also its stability at higher speed.

The latter results from a relatively long wheelbase (27+”), very stiff flex, and uber-stable Bear trucks. The mild W concave also helps keep your feet in place and give you a secure feel when riding faster.

The concave, high width, and low ride give you confidence for sliding on this board. The drop-through mount makes slides more predictable and stable, even though you need a bit more effort to break traction.

All-around beginner longboard

Riders often command the Drop Hammer for being a great beginner board. The wide and ample platform makes it ideal for learners. It works particular well for smaller riders, and for heavier ones thanks to very stiff, sturdy build and stable ride.

Some smaller riders love the Drop Hammer for throwing it around and doing basic freestyle tricks. The nice walkable platform and decent twin kicks makes it fun to play with.

Of course, the large wheel cutouts aren’t the best for advanced freestyle and dancing tricks as they increase the change of foot rub.

What riders say about the Drop Hammer

Here’s a recap of key rider feedback regarding the Landyachtz Drop Hammer:

  • The Drop Hammer is a very good carving board with a feeling close to that of snowboarding.
  • This board is light and feels responsive, it allows you to try aggressive maneuvers without getting out of control.
  • Although turning may not be as tight as on a topmount, this board is very responsive and maneuvers easily.
  • The Drop Hammer feels wide, comfortable, and stable. In contrast to other longboards, it rides smoothly even on rugged city streets.
  • The Drop Hammer has great carving capabilities while still being stable enough for riding down decent hills with no speed wobbles.
  • The Drop Hammer is strong and durable and can take a 250-300lb rider without issues.
  • This board is quite lightweight and easy to carry around.
  • The artwork on the Pinecone version of the Drop Hammer is stunning.

Drop Hammer shape & construction

Drop Hammer shape & construction

As mentioned, the Drop Hammer is a true drop-through twin shape characterized by a very wide standing platform relative to the midsize length.

The Pinecone version of the Drop Hammer has a 7-ply Canadian Maple construction, resulting in a very stiff and sturdy deck capable of handling heavier riders.

The minimal W concave on this board is mellow with a small ridge in the middle and slightly uplifted rails. Although subtle, the concave is sufficient for comfortable foot lock-in when carving and sliding.

The Drop Hammer features ample wheel cutouts for wheelbite-free turns, and small tail and nose kicks that come in handy for simple kick tricks.

Landyachtz Drop Hammer setup

Landyachtz Drop Hammer setup

The Landyachtz Drop Hammer comes fitted with the Bear Grizzly Gen 6 RKP trucks, among the top longboard trucks on the market. They have a reputation for being awesome carving trucks.

The Grizzlies can be flipped for a lower baseplate angle well-suited for downhill speed.

The 6th generation of the Bear Grizzlies have bushing seats that are open and free turning. They feature stepped insert bushings which allow for deep carves with no slop through the complete turn. The Gen 6 also look great.

The Drop Hammer ships with highly-rated Hawgs Plough King 72mm 78A wheels.

Board is a real beauty , purchased for one of my grandsons following in the the footsteps of his father and two uncles all borders and skaters . This would grace any setting.  The only down side was it was delivered to wrong address and email from dhl stated I signed for it. The problem was it was the house it was left at has been empty for 9 years so board left outside and receipt false. I called dhl and gained no satisfactory answer . If I were you guys would suggest having a word with couriers especially as coming up to crimbo . But that aside great board

Landyachtz Drop Hammer Review

June 2, 2022

landyachtz drop hammer night fox

The Drop Hammer is Landyachtz’s take on the classic drop-through longboard. Check out my review of the Landyachtz Drop Hammer below to find out more.

Table of Contents

  • Length:  36.5″
  • Wheelbase: 27.25
  • Construction: 8plys Canadian Maple
  • Stiffness: Flexible
  • Max weight: Not sure but hold about 250lbs comfortably
  • Wheels: 69 Hawgs or Supreme Hawgs. 69mm or 70mm respectively.
  • Trucks: Reverse kingpin Bear Gen 6 trucks. 50*, 180mm.
  • Bearings: Bear Space Balls Abec 7 bearings.

The Landyachtz Drop Hammer is a surprisingly comfortable and easy to ride board. I was blown away by how natural and easy to ride it felt. Within a few minutes of standing on it, I was riding confidently.

The board is simple. No fancy features, just straightforward execution.

Landyachtz Drop Hammer

You get a flexible deck that has comfortable mellow concave. It isn’t too long or too short and accommodates a comfortable shoulder-width stance. It has a bit of flex which absorbs road vibrations and provides a comfortable ride over all sorts of riding environments. The flex also allows you to bounce in and out of turns, or dig into the board during a carve. It’s fun.

The deck also has cutouts that provide great clearance for wheels so you never get wheelbite (even if you use big 80mm wheels).

You get high-quality components too.

The trucks lean and turn smoothly and allow for a ton of control, they’re quite stable too. The Bear Gen 6 trucks are some of the best trucks available today and have the best feeling ride in my opinion.

Landyachtz Drop Hammer

Paired with the 69mm 69 Hawgs (or 70mm Supremes), you get wheels that are easy to push, roll fast, and hold their speed decently.

These wheels are quite good, but I’d recommend you upgrade to 80mm tall wheels (if you have the money). Trust me when I say, you’ll get the most out of the Drop Hammer with them – and no wheelbite either!

The Drop Hammer is good. It’s simple but it gets the job done super well. It’s a very easy to ride board and is very beginner-friendly.

So whether you’re a beginner or a more experienced rider looking for a stable and easy-to-ride cruiser board, the Drop Hammer is an excellent choice.

Is the Landyachtz Drop Hammer comfortable?

I was blown away by how comfortable and easy to ride the Drop Hammer is.

The board has mellow concave which comfortably cradles your feet.

Landyachtz Drop Hammer concave

It isn’t too long or too short, allowing you to have a natural shoulder-width stance on this board whilst still being able to control it comfortably. Being forced to stand too narrow or too wide on a board can be a bit tiring the longer you have to ride it for.

The board also has a tiny bit of flex. This is super useful and adds a lot of comfort to the ride. When riding over road imperfections (rougher roads, pebbles, stone roads), the flex absorbs some of the vibrations. This stops your feet from getting tired out too quickly when you’re riding.

Pro tip: Generally If you ride a rough road for very long, you’ll notice the vibrations will tire out your feet quickly. Boards with flex (and big wheels) reduce vibrations and allow you to ride for longer.

Finally, the trucks are stable and don’t turn unless you give them a direct input to turn. This is important. Instead of fighting to keep your trucks going straight, your feet can relax and you can comfortably just stand on top of the board and let it go straight. This allows you to ride for longer without getting tired.

Does it turn well?

The Bear Gen 6 trucks turn well.

They lean and turn smoothly, and support you through the turn. They are beginner-friendly and inspire a lot of confidence. I imagine a lot of people are going to be taking aggressive carves with these trucks cause of how well they perform.

bear gen 6 trucks

Thanks to the design of the trucks (the plug-barrel system – check out the Bear Gen 6 review for more info), these trucks are inherently stable and offer a kind of effortless riding experience. They want to keep going straight if you don’t give them any input.

And paired with the long wheelbase of the deck, it’s so easy to keep this board going in a straight line.

But yeah, this deck is turny but not as turny as a mini-cruiser.

Is the Drop Hammer nimble?

The Drop Hammer isn’t super long, but it is still a pretty longboard. This means it isn’t super nimble.

If you’re trying to weave in and out of traffic or in-between tight obstacles, you will suffer. The board doesn’t make the tightest of turns easily.

That aside, it will be turny enough for most uses.

riding the Landyachtz Drop Hammer

Is it too big (is the Drop Hammer portable)?

No, it isn’t. The Drop Hammer is probably the perfect size for a big cruiser.

It isn’t too big, but isn’t too small to the point you’d be uncomfortable on it. It’s just right.

But in terms of portability, I only feel semi-comfortable carrying it around. I definitely feel the weight and size when I am carrying it around the supermarket or on a bus. It definitely isn’t as portable board as the Dinghy or Tugboat.

I wouldn’t mind it if I had to carry it around occasionally, but I wouldn’t be happy if I had to carry it around frequently.

Can you push far with the Landyachtz Drop Hammer?

With the stock wheels, you can push decently far on this board. I’ve found myself comfortably skating 5-7km (3-5miles).

If you upgrade the wheels to big 80mm ones as I have. Distances of 10km (6miles) and more will be manageable.

pushing on the Drop Hammer

Is the Drop Hammer easy to push and footbrake?

Because the board is drop-through, several things are affected.

Being drop-through lowers the standing platform. It makes the board more stable, and because it brings it closer to the ground, easier to push and footbrake on. You simply don’t have to reach far to get to the ground.

Are the Drop Hammer components good quality?

As a complete, the Drop Hammer comes with amazing components. All high-quality.

Are the wheels fast?

The 70mm Supreme Hawgs or 69 Hawgs work great on this board.

They accelerate quickly, roll fast, and have decent momentum. They are awesome.

69 hawgs longboard wheels

The Bear Spaceball Bearings work great out of the box.

After some initial riding, the excess lubricant will flow out of them, so make sure to wipe em down to avoid dirt coating them.

And further down the line after a few months of riding, do lubricate them. They use a thin lube that doesn’t last as long as I’d like it to. Fortunately, the inner race is exposed so lubing them up is quite easy.

I recommend Lithium grease for your lubricant as it lasts longs and provides a smooth, silent ride.

Are the trucks and bushings high-quality?

The trucks are some of the best in the game. You can’t go wrong with them, they’re awesome.

The Bear Gen 6 trucks have a leany carvy feel. Paired with the high-rebound stock bushings, you get a truck that carves well, but wants to bounce you out of the turn.

gen 6 trucks

They are so playful and are a joy to have under your feet.

That said, the bushings are on the stiffer feeling side – not good for super lightweight riders. But heavy riders and beginners would appreciate how supportive they feel in the lean and turn.

If you’re a lightweight rider, don’t hesitate to get aftermarket bushings that will lean easier for you.

The Drop Hammer looks good

I’m not a big fan of the drop-through look and shape, but the Landyachtz Drop Hammer makes it work.

Most drop-throughs have a rounded shape (on-the-wheel cutouts), and I think this makes them look tacky and a little bit ugly.

Landyachtz Drop Hammer with orangatang kegels

The Drop Hammer with its sharper cutouts and angled shape looks a bit more tasteful in my eyes.

This is all personal preference. But the Drop Hammer and its graphics are def a looker.

The one upgrade you should make

If you can afford it, big 80mm wheels make this board a lot better. It takes it to the next level and improves how it rides.

Apart from an additional expense and a heavier board, there are no drawbacks to doing this.

78 orangatang kegels

However, if you are a lighter rider (or a kid), the 70mm stock wheels may be better suited for you. It does take a bit of effort to get the 80mm wheels moving and kids may not be able to do that comfortably.

What I didn’t like about this board

Honestly, there’s not a lot I didn’t like about this board. It obviously isn’t perfect and there are changes I can make to make it more suited to me personally, but it is executed well with no inherent drawbacks in my opinion. It’s an all-around great board.

Of course, there may be some disadvantages of it being a drop-through or big cruiser, but those are inherent to the style and not a fault of the board.

Is it fairly priced?

Absolutely. Before the supply chain cost increase hit this board it was about $200 (and still is here at the Stoked Ride shop ).

Even now with the higher costs of everything (seriously, skateboarding got a lot more expensive all-around), its under $300 price point is still fair.

Is the Landyachtz Drop Hammer good for beginners?

Yes, it is. It is easy to ride and comfortable. The trucks are stable and the board is easy to control. It is one of the most beginner-friendly longboards you can get.

riding the drop hammer

Is the Landyachtz Drop Hammer right for you?

You can’t go wrong with the Drop Hammer. It will make an excellent first board for many riders.

Hi AbugaA, i’m considering buying this board as my 3rd board. I currently own a Lush Freebyrd which feels a bit stiff and not carvy enough and a Dinghy. Would you recommend this board for long smooth carvy rides? Thanks!

yes! Just make sure you grab some big wheels, it will make it work a bit better 🙂

How a negotiation over cable fees could weigh on Paramount’s sale

An animated film still shows a boy in a jumpsuit on a futuristic car with huge tires.

Paramount Global’s sale talks with David Ellison’s Skydance Media face a milestone later this week, but the battered Redstone family-controlled media company has been scrambling to meet another deadline — one that also carries huge implications.

On Tuesday, Paramount and Charter Communications agreed to a deadline extension as the two sides worked to hammer out a new distribution agreement for Paramount’s channels, which would replace a three-year pact that was due to expire this week, according to knowledgeable people who are not authorized to comment publicly on the high-stakes talks.

Charter pays Paramount significant fees to carry its channels, including CBS, BET, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon, on Charter’s Spectrum television service. As Paramount‘s cable networks lose viewers and advertising revenue declines, the company must protect the affiliate fees it receives from distributors, including Charter. Paramount cannot afford to lose such a key source of revenue from one of its primary partners.

The outcome of the negotiations could weigh on Paramount’s valuation in the event of a sale.

While the length of the contract extension is not clear, it does give Paramount some breathing room in what has become a chaotic and difficult period.

Paramount’s Chief Executive Bob Bakish was bounced on Monday , amid increasing tensions with controlling shareholder Shari Redstone, who is pushing to sell her stake in her family’s media empire .

He was replaced by three senior entertainment executives who now make up an “office of the CEO.” The company also reported earnings that beat estimates, but executives refused to take questions during their customary conference call with Wall Street analysts.

The company’s stock is down 50% in the past year. Paramount fell 7.2% Tuesday to $11.37 a share.

Company Town

David Ellison’s journey from trust fund kid to media mogul vying to buy Paramount

Skydance Media CEO David Ellison, son of billionaire Larry Ellison, has emerged as a strong contender to take over the iconic Paramount studios.

April 22, 2024

Nonvoting B-class shareholders have fumed over the terms of the Skydance deal , concluding that it would bestow Redstone with a rich premium at the expense of other shareholders. Meanwhile, independent directors are weighing the Ellison group’s sweetened offer, which has been described as its “best and final.”

Paramount’s board will soon lose five directors, including Bakish.

Even before the boardroom and management turmoil, Paramount was seen as having a weak hand in its negotiations with Charter, which currently offers 25 Paramount-owned television channels to its 13.7 million Spectrum TV subscribers.

“The majority of Paramount’s current U.S. cable networks are at risk,” Bank of America media analyst Jessica Reif Ehrlich wrote in a research note for investors this week, adding that a bad result in the Charter talks could threaten Paramount’s financial foundation and potentially “impact the company’s ability to execute a sale under favorable terms.”

The reason: Paramount’s “TV media segment still generates an overwhelming percentage of the company’s earnings and cash flows,” Reif Ehrlich wrote. Investors and potential buyers have been watching the Charter talks closely as they consider how much Paramount is really worth.

Apollo Global Management has offered $26 billion, including the absorption of Paramount’s nearly $14 billion in debt, which some shareholders favor over the two-phase deal orchestrated by Ellison’s Skydance along with investment firms RedBird Capital Partners and KKR. Paramount had granted the Ellison group 30 days of exclusive negotiations. That period ends Friday, however, sources close to the sales process say they expect the talks to continue past this week.

Paramount and Charter representatives declined to comment.

Paramount Global, long known as Viacom , has struggled to adapt in the streaming era.

Broadcast network CBS has largely maintained its popularity — its February broadcast of the Super Bowl drew a record 123.4 million viewers — but the viewership shift has pummeled Paramount’s cable channels, including MTV, VH1 and Nickelodeon, putting the company in a tough spot.

At the same time, cable companies are losing pay TV customers at a rapid clip and don’t want to give subscribers another reason to flee by asking them to pay more for programming that they don’t necessarily watch.

Stamford, Conn.-based Charter has increasingly balked at paying high fees for cable channels that have been hemorrhaging viewers in recent years as consumers shift to streaming and other video-on-demand options.

Charter also has demanded concessions on carriage terms for streaming services, such as Disney+ or Paramount+, which compete with its Spectrum channel bundles.

LOS ANGELES, CA - OCTOBER 19: The Melrose Gate of Paramount Pictures Studio. (Al Seib / Los Angeles Times

Last summer, Charter drew a hard line during its negotiations with Walt Disney Co., which led to a 10-day blackout of Disney-owned channels, including its ABC and ESPN networks. Charter threatened to permanently pull all the Disney channels from its Spectrum TV service unless Disney caved to some of its demands — a scenario that would have been unthinkable a decade ago.

In the end, Disney sacrificed carriage on Spectrum for several smaller channels, including Freeform.

Losing networks could be particularly painful for Paramount.

More than a decade ago, Paramount programmed nearly three dozen cable channels and collected handsome fees for the distribution rights. However, over the years, distributors including Dish Network and Charter have refused to continue to carry what they view as nonessential ones — and that wrangling was expected to be a key hurdle in the Charter talks.

For example, Charter offers its customers five MTV channels: the main network MTV and spinoffs MTV2, MTV Classic, MTV Live and MTVU. MTV‘s programming lineup relies heavily on “Awesomeness,” a twist on talent competitions. There are four Nickelodeon channels, the flagship kids network as well as Nick Jr., Nick Music and Nick Toons.

Disney and Charter end blackout, returning ESPN and ABC to Spectrum TV

The blackout ended Monday with a new distribution deal, hours before the New York Jets-Buffalo Bills ‘Monday Night Football’ game on ESPN.

Sept. 11, 2023

Charter is expected to push for the ability to drop channels with meager ratings.

“In our view, the critical carriage would be for Nickelodeon, MTV, BET, Comedy Central and Paramount Network,” Reif Ehrlich wrote.

One sticking point for distributors, including Charter, is that Paramount makes much of its content available to subscribers of Paramount+, the streaming service the company offers for $5.99 to $11.99 a month. That, in some cases, is less than what cable distributors pay for the same content.

The television programmers’ move to offer their own streaming services has rankled distributors, who feel that their longtime partners have turned into rivals. Charter Chief Executive Christopher Winfrey has said his company would take a tougher stance in its carriage negotiations.

“Our goals here are really to re-create a video ecosystem that works for everybody. Today, it doesn’t,” Winfrey said last week on the company’s earnings call. “It’s been broken, and it’s been broken for a while.”

Hammer + Sickle Moscow City Series | Cigar Review

By The Katman on September 23, 2014 • ( 3 )

1

Today we take a look at the Hammer + Sickle Moscow City Series.

There are three sizes: Petite Robusto, Robusto Extra 5.5 x 54, and Double Robusto 6.25 x 56. The cigars are blended by Henke Kelner of Davidoff.

The cigars are everywhere online and appear to be price controlled.

There are six different blends: Moscow City Series, Berlin Wall Series, Hermitage No.1, Icon, Tradicion Serie, and Tver(Available only in Texas).

From Hammer + Sickle Cigars web site: “Crafted at the famed TabaDom manufactory, Moscow City boasts a Connecticut broadleaf wrapper, meaning it is Connecticut grown and uses Connecticut seed. We have painstakingly awaited the natural fermentation process of aging to create this premium cigar. “Only a select group of cigars on the market use this wrapper, which is both rare and high-end. It proves to be challenging to work with, yet delivers a maduro taste that is both unmistakable and unrivaled. The initial sweet taste of a Moscow City cigar emanates from the Connecticut seed, but once lit becomes rich and nutty, resulting in a smoke that is full in body and flavor.”

From NH Cigars: “The Moscow City cigars are limited to only 400 boxes worldwide and we are one of the first to offer these fine cigars. I know the name sounds kind of different because it’s not named after some Spanish Conquistador, or a name that you can’t even pronounce, but trust us folks this cigar is truly a legend already. The Moscow City cigars have a well-aged maduro broad-leaf wrapper that is wrapped around a peppery secret blend of Nicaraguan and Dominican ligero long-fillers. The burn and draw on these hot rods are outstanding. The Cigar box is made up of metal that will make a perfect conversation piece.”

The cigar has a nice looking milk chocolate wrapper with plenty of oil. The wrapper is very smooth to the touch. Seams are tight. Lots of small veins. A gorgeous triple cap.

I clip the cap and find aromas of cocoa, hazelnut, strong earthiness, enough spice to make me sneeze three times in succession, and oak. Time to light up.

3

The Hammer + Sickle Moscow City Series is screaming flavors. It is 5 minutes away from being a flavor bomb.

These cigars don’t need extensive humidor aging. In fact, I’ve only had them a few days. And this stick smokes like it has been aged for months.

The strength starts out at high medium bodied. In a few moments, it should hit medium/full. And I have no doubt it will hit the advertised full body.

Char line is on the money.

I can taste Granny Smith apples. That tart green skin with the slightly acidic/sweet flavor. The apple flavor literally soars.

This is damn fine cigar. Is it a mini-Davidoff? Don’t know. I think I’ve smoked half a dozen Davidoffs in my life and I can’t remember a whit about them. Too damn expensive for the working stiff.

4

And the cigar hits flavor bomb status.

I am about to begin the second third.

The Hammer + Sickle Moscow City Series has an interesting tobacco flavor. It is intense and painted in broad strokes. It is rich and full flavored. Sometimes, we forget about the actual taste of the tobacco and concentrate only on the foo foo flavors.

5

The price point. Worth every dime. A perfect example of water seeking its own level by matching a fine cigar with a fair price.

The flavors are: Spice, creaminess, chocolate, nuts, oak, molasses, honey, caramel, green apple, cedar, and leather. Not to mention a rich earthiness.

There is perfect balance. Not a single flavor, except for the heady spiciness, outdoes the other. Picking the order of flavors was near impossible. Each has its place in the puzzle.

Just as I write the above, the Hammer + Sickle Moscow City Series runs rampant in the streets. Flavors explode. The creaminess and cocoa are so intense, I grab a Diet Coke for my egg cream experience. The green apple is right behind. There are raisins now. Completing the fruity portion of this program.

Coffee appears in the form of caramel macchiato. With little chocolate sprinkles. The honey element is strong. Man, damn fine cigar!

I cannot wait to introduce you to the Berlin Wall Series and the Tradicion.

I still have 2-1/2” to go and that makes me happy. The cigar is so jam packed that it is a very slow smoke. I’ve invested 45 minutes into the first 2-1/4”.

Construction is impeccable. No issues from the wrapper. The cap is sturdy. And the char line is dead nuts. I can’t get enough of this cigar.

hscbox

I begin the halfway mark.

6

Kelner did a spectacular job. And because of his name alone being associated with the line of cigars, they could have been in the double digit price range. So kudos to Hammer + Sickle for keeping it real, babies.

We are now in uber super-duper flavor bomb status. There is no place it can go from here. The Hammer + Sickle Moscow City Series has one of the most intense flavor profiles I’ve ever tasted.

The strength becomes full bodied. My brain begins to swim like a sea of swarming simbas.

I have the biggest smile on my puss right now. I want more. I smoked the other one last night which brought me to this review. So now I am out of this blend. I would love to get my hands on at least a 5 pack.

Don’t fuck around. Grab that sampler of 6 cigars, from Thompson, before they disappear. At $3.33 per stick, that’s $4-$5 off per stick. It will give you a good idea of which blend you prefer.

The Hammer + Sickle Moscow City Series is as close to a perfect cigar as they come. Of course, that’s my opinion. You may have another. But the fact that it was basically a flavor bomb from the start and the rich earthiness that accompanies it makes it a real experience. This ain’t no yard ‘gar. It is for the experienced palate.

I will review either the Berlin Wall or the Tradicion this week. I smoked a Berlin Wall that was a gift a few days ago. But it was one of the last sticks of the day so while I thoroughly enjoyed it, I missed out on the nuances.

And this blend is chock full of nuance and balance with a mighty long finish.

7

The flavors are so potent, my palate is in overload. Flavor elements have mellowed a bit but still very definable. So far, the nicotine has been mild.

There is a limited supply of these cigars. And they have mostly flown under the radar. Not much of a PR machine. But that is OK for those of us that have discovered them.

One last time: Creaminess, cocoa, spice, green apple, molasses, honey, sweet cedar, coffee, nuts, caramel, leather, earthiness, and oak.

8

The Hammer + Sickle Moscow City Series finishes out beautifully. Not a bit of harshness or heat. All flavors intact. But the nicotine level has risen dramatically. I put on my crash helmet so no worries.

The Comprehensive Guide to Moscow Nightlife

landyachtz drop hammer night fox

Moscow’s nightlife scene is thriving, and arguably one of the best the world has to offer – top-notch Russian women, coupled with a never-ending list of venues, Moscow has a little bit of something for everyone’s taste. Moscow nightlife is not for the faint of heart – and if you’re coming, you better be ready to go Friday and Saturday night into the early morning.

This comprehensive guide to Moscow nightlife will run you through the nuts and bolts of all you need to know about Moscow’s nightclubs and give you a solid blueprint to operate with during your time in Moscow.

What you need to know before hitting Moscow nightclubs

Prices in moscow nightlife.

Before you head out and start gaming all the sexy Moscow girls , we have to talk money first. Bring plenty because in Moscow you can never bring a big enough bankroll. Remember, you’re the man so making a fuzz of not paying a drink here or there will not go down well.

Luckily most Moscow clubs don’t do cover fees. Some electro clubs will charge 15-20$, depending on their lineup. There’s the odd club with a minimum spend of 20-30$, which you’ll drop on drinks easily. By and large, you can scope out the venues for free, which is a big plus.

Bottle service is a great deal in Moscow. At top-tier clubs, it starts at 1,000$. That’ll go a long way with premium vodka at 250$, especially if you have three or four guys chipping in. Not to mention that it’s a massive status boost for getting girls, especially at high-end clubs.

Without bottle service, you should estimate a budget of 100-150$ per night. That is if you drink a lot and hit the top clubs with the hottest girls. Scale down for less alcohol and more basic places.

Dress code & Face control

Door policy in Moscow is called “face control” and it’s always the guy behind the two gorillas that gives the green light if you’re in or out.

In Moscow nightlife there’s only one rule when it comes to dress codes:

You can never be underdressed.

People dress A LOT sharper than, say, in the US and that goes for both sexes. For high-end clubs, you definitely want to roll with a sharp blazer and a pocket square, not to mention dress shoes in tip-top condition. Those are the minimum requirements to level the playing field vis a vis with other sharply dressed guys that have a lot more money than you do. Unless you plan to hit explicit electro or underground clubs, which have their own dress code, you are always on the money with that style.

Getting in a Moscow club isn’t as hard as it seems: dress sharp, speak English at the door and look like you’re in the mood to spend all that money that you supposedly have (even if you don’t). That will open almost any door in Moscow’s nightlife for you.

Types of Moscow Nightclubs

In Moscow there are four types of clubs with the accompanying female clientele:

High-end clubs:

These are often crossovers between restaurants and clubs with lots of tables and very little space to dance. Heavy accent on bottle service most of the time but you can work the room from the bar as well. The hottest and most expensive girls in Moscow go there. Bring deep pockets and lots of self-confidence and you have a shot at swooping them.

Regular Mid-level clubs:

They probably resemble more what you’re used to in a nightclub: big dancefloors, stages and more space to roam around. Bottle service will make you stand out more but you can also do well without. You can find all types of girls but most will be in the 6-8 range. Your targets should always be the girls drinking and ideally in pairs. It’s impossible not to swoop if your game is at least half-decent.

Basic clubs/dive bars:

Usually spots with very cheap booze and lax face control. If you’re dressed too sharp and speak no Russian, you might attract the wrong type of attention so be vigilant. If you know the local scene you can swoop 6s and 7s almost at will. Usually students and girls from the suburbs.

Electro/underground clubs:

Home of the hipsters and creatives. Parties there don’t mean meeting girls and getting drunk but doing pills and spacing out to the music. Lots of attractive hipster girls if that is your niche. That is its own scene with a different dress code as well.

landyachtz drop hammer night fox

What time to go out in Moscow

Moscow nightlife starts late. Don’t show up at bars and preparty spots before 11pm because you’ll feel fairly alone. Peak time is between 1am and 3am. That is also the time of Moscow nightlife’s biggest nuisance: concerts by artists you won’t know and who only distract your girls from drinking and being gamed. From 4am to 6am the regular clubs are emptying out but plenty of people, women included, still hit up one of the many afterparty clubs. Those last till well past 10am.

As far as days go: Fridays and Saturdays are peak days. Thursday is an OK day, all other days are fairly weak and you have to know the right venues.

The Ultimate Moscow Nightclub List

Short disclaimer: I didn’t add basic and electro clubs since you’re coming for the girls, not for the music. This list will give you more options than you’ll be able to handle on a weekend.

Preparty – start here at 11PM

Classic restaurant club with lots of tables and a smallish bar and dancefloor. Come here between 11pm and 12am when the concert is over and they start with the actual party. Even early in the night tons of sexy women here, who lean slightly older (25 and up).

The second floor of the Ugolek restaurant is an extra bar with dim lights and house music tunes. Very small and cozy with a slight hipster vibe but generally draws plenty of attractive women too. A bit slower vibe than Valenok.

Very cool, spread-out venue that has a modern library theme. Not always full with people but when it is, it’s brimming with top-tier women. Slow vibe here and better for grabbing contacts and moving on.

landyachtz drop hammer night fox

High-end: err on the side of being too early rather than too late because of face control.

Secret Room

Probably the top venue at the moment in Moscow . Very small but wildly popular club, which is crammed with tables but always packed. They do parties on Thursdays and Sundays as well. This club has a hip-hop/high-end theme, meaning most girls are gold diggers, IG models, and tattooed hip hop chicks. Very unfavorable logistics because there is almost no room no move inside the club but the party vibe makes it worth it. Strict face control.

Close to Secret Room and with a much more favorable and spacious three-part layout. This place attracts very hot women but also lots of ball busters and fakes that will leave you blue-balled. Come early because after 4am it starts getting empty fast. Electronic music.

A slightly kitsch restaurant club that plays Russian pop and is full of gold diggers, semi-pros, and men from the Caucasus republics. Thursday is the strongest night but that dynamic might be changing since Secret Room opened its doors. You can swoop here but it will be a struggle.

landyachtz drop hammer night fox

Mid-level: your sweet spot in terms of ease and attractiveness of girls for an average budget.

Started going downwards in 2018 due to lax face control and this might get even worse with the World Cup. In terms of layout one of the best Moscow nightclubs because it’s very big and bottle service gives you a good edge here. Still attracts lots of cute girls with loose morals but plenty of provincial girls (and guys) as well. Swooping is fairly easy here.

I haven’t been at this place in over a year, ever since it started becoming ground zero for drunken teenagers. Similar clientele to Icon but less chic, younger and drunker. Decent mainstream music that attracts plenty of tourists. Girls are easy here as well.

Sort of a Coyote Ugly (the real one in Moscow sucks) with party music and lots of drunken people licking each others’ faces. Very entertaining with the right amount of alcohol and very easy to pull in there. Don’t think about staying sober in here, you’ll hate it.

Artel Bessonitsa/Shakti Terrace

Electronic music club that is sort of a high-end place with an underground clientele and located between the teenager clubs Icon and Gipsy. Very good music but a bit all over the place with their vibe and their branding. You can swoop almost any type of girl here from high-heeled beauty to coked-up hipsters, provided they’re not too sober.

landyachtz drop hammer night fox

Afterparty: if by 5AM  you haven’t pulled, it’s time to move here.

Best afterparty spot in terms of trying to get girls. Pretty much no one is sober in there and savage gorilla game goes a long way. Lots of very hot and slutty-looking girls but it can be hard to tell apart who is looking for dick and who is just on drugs but not interested. If by 9-10am you haven’t pulled, it is probably better to surrender.

The hipster alternative for afterparties, where even more drugs are in play. Plenty of attractive girls there but you have to know how to work this type of club. A nicer atmosphere and better music but if you’re desperate to pull, you’ll probably go to Miks.

Weekday jokers: if you’re on the hunt for some sexy Russian girls during the week, here are two tips to make your life easier.

Chesterfield

Ladies night on Wednesdays means this place gets pretty packed with smashed teenagers and 6s and 7s. Don’t pull out the three-piece suit in here because it’s a “simpler” crowd. Definitely your best shot on Wednesdays.

If you haven’t pulled at Chesterfield, you can throw a Hail Mary and hit up Garage’s Black Music Wednesdays. Fills up really late but there are some cute Black Music groupies in here. Very small club. Thursday through Saturday they do afterparties and you have an excellent shot and swooping girls that are probably high.

Shishas Sferum

This is pretty much your only shot on Mondays and Tuesdays because they offer free or almost free drinks for women. A fairly low-class club where you should watch your drinks. As always the case in Moscow, there will be cute girls here on any day of the week but it’s nowhere near as good as on the weekend.

landyachtz drop hammer night fox

In a nutshell, that is all you need to know about where to meet Moscow girls in nightlife. There are tons of options, and it all depends on what best fits your style, based on the type of girls that you’re looking for.
