Creating a custom yacht is usually a matter of turning a buyer’s vision into reality. There can be many changes in direction and ideas along the way, the key to success is keeping these in balance. The exception is a yacht builder building a yacht on speculation. In that case, the builder has to be an acting buyer, hoping to get it right for the ultimate buyer without having to “redo” too many things. In the case of JUST ENOUGH, the yacht started as a “refit” project and ended up a 95% newly constructed yacht with many changes along the way, like putting the vessel into RINA class. The work was performed by Ares Custom yachts with many yacht projects to their credit and were finalists in the International Superyacht Society’s “Best Refit of the Year” competition. Below is a synopsis of the JUST ENOUGH project. Quoting from the Ares website: “The ARES 140’ was conceived and executed with a unique blend of attributes making her an ideal combination of all of the best a yacht can offer. Her design centered on a striking contemporary silhouette, a trim, yet stable hull for extended passage making and systems and safety equipment compliant with world-class standards. Let’s start with her proportions. The low profile is conspicuous and elegant, yet also beneficial for improved stability and reduced windage. Her hull is slender and designed for maximized efficiency at sea without sacrificing safety or comfort. At a manageable 140’ she contains accommodations for 20 and has extravagant spaces for entertaining. Her 23’ beam, can fit into standard stern-to slips, and her 6' 9" draft can visit the shallow ports of both the Caribbean and the US East Coast. Her construction and design are impeccable. ARES 140 is built on a specially prepared existing hard chine semi-displacement hull which is framed transversely and longitudinally. Lightweight, high-performance engines were selected to maintain operational speed, yet lend more space back to the interior. All mechanical systems, including shafting, piping, electrical, HVAC, and steering, use top-quality components and are certified to RINA Yacht Class standards. When not in use by the owner, the vessel easily lends itself to chartering. All safety equipment and stability is MCA compliant. The robust deck equipment is prepared for Mediterranean applications and heavy use. The lazarette provides an additional laundry station, workbench, freezer and storage space. The tender and jet-skis are on the bow for easy launching when docked stern-to.” Unfortunately, the original buyer who started the JUST ENOUGH project did not finish it. At 90% complete, she moved on to a new buyer who finished the project and enjoyed the yacht immensely before moving on to a larger one. The next and present owner was more experienced and previously owned Choy Lee & Christensen yachts that were available for charter. He had not owned an aluminum yacht before but was familiar with aluminum maintenance from owning many airplanes. He personally inspected the entire inside of the hull prior to purchase, even removing the non-metallic tanks to see the bilge underneath, and applied his aircraft maintenance philosophy to JUST ENOUGH. Afterward, the owner took JUST ENOUGH to the next level for charter with additional amenities like a tow behind tender, waterslide, VSAT communications, SEABOBS, and more. JUST ENOUGH has just completed four winter and summer seasons chartering in the Virgin Islands before coming back to the US for required maintenance and surveys for RINA classification and Jamaican flag registries. Gross charter revenue from 2018 until the end of 2022 was $7.9 million; $3 million accounted for the short January to August 2022 year. For a buyer who wants a yacht in the Virgin Islands that generates a lot of cash (some or all tax-free depending on depreciation), JUST ENOUGH is a dream come true. The owner is offering JUST ENOUGH for sale because he may want a smaller yacht for a while to go back to some areas like New England, which he has enjoyed in the past. Therefore smaller yachts or aircraft trades will be considered. A complete record of all charter revenue activity and list of almost $500,000.00 of recent repairs and upgrades will be provided to qualified buyers. Work performed in dry dock includes many items done years ahead of schedule.

Boarding from the Aft Deck, you will be instantly greeted by the warm teak decks that continue through the exterior spaces of the yacht. The Aft Deck features a spacious dining settee with seating for ten guests as well as a walk-up bar. There is stairway access to both the swim platform and flybridge from this deck. Head inside to the main salon through the sliding glass doors. The main salon is beautiful and elegant, with its rich mahogany perfectly accented with neutral tones and pops of color. To port is a card table alongside a welcoming sofa. Just forward of the main salon is the formal dining area with plush leather chairs and mahogany table, comfortably seating 12. A pocket door to port provides access to the Stew Pantry, Galley, and Crew Quarters, while to starboard, the companionway leads you to further guest areas. JUST ENOUGH accommodates 11 guests in 5 well-appointed guest cabins. The Master Suite is full beam on the main deck offering wonderful views through the large portholes. The en suite boasts marble floors and countertops, a Jacuzzi tub, walk-in shower, his and her sinks, and private toilet with a bidet. Below Deck are the remaining four guest staterooms. The king and twin staterooms are amidship accessed from the stairway just forward of the dining area. The twin stateroom also includes a pullman bunk. The two queen staterooms are aft, accessed from the stairway off the main salon. All guest staterooms are equipped with flat screen televisions with Apple TV and satellite. All are also en suite with marble floors and counters, as well as their own Jacuzzi tubs with integrated showers. Heading on up to the bridge deck, the pilot house and captain quarters are forward, followed by the spacious skylounge. The skylounge offers a full-service bar, an l-shaped corner sofa, game table, and entertainment systems. Picture windows provide ample natural light and pristine views of the destination outdoors. Through the glass doors, step onto the bridge deck aft boasting a large teak table with seating for 10 guests to enjoy al fresco dining. This exterior space also features a lounge area as well as access to both the aft deck and sundeck via teak staircases. The sundeck on board is an exceptional space to be enjoyed by all. Featuring a jacuzzi forward surrounded by sunpads, a BBQ grill, and fully equipped wet bar. There is plenty of space to enjoy sunbathing, from the chaise lounge chairs to the sunbeds. There is even more exterior space to be enjoyed on the foredeck, a private oasis that features two sunbeds. The lounge space is separate from the workspace that houses the anchors as well as the launch space for the tender and jet skis. There are crew Accommodations for 9 with the captain's cabin located on the bridge deck, and the remaining crew accommodations below deck and forward. There is also a crew lounge, laundry facilities, and additional refrigeration. The yacht is home to many water toys, including a custom slide from the sundeck, new waverunners, and many more! Additionally, having just completed a yard period and finishing class and flag state surveys, the yacht is truly turn-key and ready to take you on your next yachting adventure!

TESTIMONIAL FROM SATISFIED GUESTS

Great trip. Amazing how many massive yachts out there. It felt like Just Enough was perfect size for two families and 8-9 of us. The spaces are very nice and comfortable. I think it would get tight with more than 9. For example the aft round dinner table is a fabulous place to have dinner, but it seats nine max. What really made the trip was the captain and crew. Besides being fun and easy they truly provided first class service all the time. That is not easy to do. We have lots of experiences around the world and this level of service was second to none. Thanks for the great recommendation. I would highly recommend it to anyone.   M/Y JUST ENOUGH / December 20 – 27 2016/ BVI

ALL ABOUT THE YACHT

It’s rare to find a large, custom-built luxury yacht charter vessel, but motor yacht JUST ENOUGH is indeed a rare find.   This 140ft yacht was built in 2012, with the specific purpose of creating a comfortable vessel for family adventures at sea. Once onboard, experienced charter guests will find all of the creature comforts they expect on a luxury yacht, along with a full inventory of watersports toys.   In fact, to name the yacht JUST ENOUGH is a bit misleading – with an inventory that includes a water slide, spa pool and a 32′  center-console tender for toying wakeboards and other toys, and amenities such as a spa and stabilizers to keep the yacht comfortable in rough seas, a better name would be, “MORE THAN ENOUGH.”

ARCHITECTURE

Spacious open-style architecture on superyacht JUST ENOUGH is evident throughout the vessel’s interior. Her full-beam salon features a comfortable sofa lounge and flows into the forward formal dining area.  A convenient day head (small bathroom) can be accessed on this level, as well as the sky lounge.

The sky lounge is located on the bridge deck and offers a quiet, interior space for entertainment and relaxation.  Skylounge amenities include a full wet bar and game table. Immediately aft of the lounge is an open air space, suitable for dining all Aperto.

Above the bridge deck is the open-air sundeck.  This is the ultimate area to enjoy the yachting lifestyle.  Here, guests can work on their suntans reclined on a chaise lounge, gather around the wet bar to tell stories of their superyacht experience.  After a day of watersports, some guests might prefer the soothing warmth of the on deck Jacuzzi tub.  Note – in addition to the ondeck hot tub, the yacht also features a Dermalife Hydrofusion Spa, with infrared sauna, steam, and vibration, plus chroma and aromatherapy.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Accommodations for ten to eleven guests include a Master stateroom, positioned forward on the main deck.  This cabin features a King-sized bed, desk/vanity, and a small seating area. The ensuite bath is finished in Italian marble and includes a Jacuzzi tub, large shower, his-and-hers sinks and toilet, and bidet.

Four guest staterooms are located belowdeck.  Two guest staterooms are positioned amidships, one with a King berth and the other, a Twin cabin with an additional Pullman berth.  Two guest staterooms, each with Queen beds are located aft.  All guest stateroom have ensuite baths with Jacuzzi-style tubs and integrated showers. Mini refrigerators are installed in each guest room.

His family has a house and sport fishing company in Mexico so feel free to test his fishing expertise. He realized he wanted to have his career as a captain and completed 4 years at the California Maritime Academy. From there he went straight into yachting and has never looked back. He has been in yachting for 10 years and a captain for 5 years. He is passionate about his job and loves to help his guests enjoy the ocean and yachting experience as much as he does. Well traveled and a graduate from UC Santa Barbara, she eventually went to Scottsdale Culinary Institute to study French cuisine, then eventually followed with a nutritional degree. As a native to California cuisine knowledge and Indian, due to familial ties, the cuisine she first restaurant studied was scratch Italian. After a long stretch in the restaurants and sent to Scandinavia for key culinary roles, she now has been in yachting for over 5 years and traveled to continents such as Fiji, Australia, Europe and Asia having the pleasure to submerge herself in these culinary inspirations. She also tends to travel on her own to such places like South America and cannot help to venture into food markets searching for the heart of cuisines. Captain Kyle has previously worked with ChefJocelyne and can attest to her secret talent of making delicious margaritas, and always aiming to please through her many creations. She has a bubbly, friendly personality that makes everyone feel welcome when around her, which makes her perfect for her role as a Chief Stewardess. In Hawaii she took to the seas, sailing, whale watching, and acting as a Naturalist haring her knowledge and love of the ocean. After a decade of living the good life, she decided to head north to Alaska, slaying salmon and soon making her way into yachting, which fueled her love of travel even further. She loves to laugh, lend a listening ear, and thrill seeking. In her spare time you can find her looking for waves, hiking, strumming her ukulele, or trying out local cuisine with friends. “This charter was our best one yet. The boat was kept immaculate and you can tell that the crew takes pride in the boat. Everything was always very neat and tidy which is always a challenge on a boat with a lot of people. Captain Kyle was fantastic and was always up for conversation about what we wanted to do or where we wanted to go and gave his suggestions. The chef….she was fantastic! We are more “simple cuisine” people. She made phenomenal food the entire time and I can assure you that NOBODY went hungry! She quite possibly made the best hamburger and mac and cheese I have ever had in my life for lunch one day when we did a barbeque. Her potstickers were outstanding, the fish was great, the lamb and duck were my favorite and I don’t even really like either one of those things! We were really there to relax after working long hours for months. I think they caught onto that very quickly! It’s really rare to see a crew who works so well together and they all really did. It was clear they all had specific jobs to do, but the amount of camaraderie and teamwork that I saw on this boat was a step above all others. To us, they were very much in sync, professional, and friendly. They made us feel comfortable from the moment we stepped aboard. All in all it was just a fantastic time and we were able to relax, eat too much, drink too much, and get some much needed Vitamin D. Thank you again for finding this boat for us at the last minute. It was phenomenal.” - Charter client December 2020

Brief History of Just Enough

Most expenses are deducted from an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA), a fund that is added on top of the charter price. The expenses, such as provisioning, fuel, marina fees, are deducted from the APA. The APA is based on the price of the yacht and ranges from 15% (crewed sailing yachts) to 30% (motor yachts with higher fuel consumption). You can actively control these expenses in your preference sheet (local vs. imported beverages) and by choice of itinerary (distances traveled). Kelly Ripa begged for an invitation to Diddy’s yacht in Tuesday’s ‘Live’ — because someone forgot to vet the reruns

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

Somebody’s getting thrown overboard for this one.

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are on vacation this week, so they’ve been re-airing old interviews from “Live with Kelly and Mark.”

But it seems someone wasn’t paying attention when they picked out the videotapes — because on Tuesday they aired an episode from June 2023 in which Ripa fawningly begged for an invitation to Sean “Diddy” Combs’ yacht.

Meanwhile, the rap mogul’s homes were raided last week as part of what appears to be a sex-trafficking investigation.

Mary J Blige

Making matters worse, the show tried to cover its tracks by pulling the clip off YouTube after Page Six reached out about the gaffe.

On the rerun, the TV couple complimented guest Mary J. Blige on a photo of her looking fabulous in her bathing suit while posing on a yacht.

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos

“I was in Capri, and I was actually visiting my big brother Puff’s boat,” Blige said.

An eager Ripa replied, “Next time you go on Puff’s boat, we’d like to!”

The tides have clearly changed for Diddy since that interview first aired. In fact, he was still perceived as a respectable hip-hop mogul back then and MTV even honored him with the Global Icon Award that September.

But in November ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura filed a bombshell lawsuit with shocking claims of rape, physical abuse, and sex trafficking .

Diddy adamantly denied any wrongdoing but ended up settling with her within 24 hours .

Homeland Security then raided his Los Angeles and Miami mansions last week as part of an ongoing sex trafficking investigation. Diddy was not arrested and his lawyer called the search a “witch hunt.”

Diddy’s A-list pals — including Blige — have not publicly come to his defense.

A rep for “Live” didn’t get back to us, but the online version of the video showing Ripa and Consuelo asking for a spot on Diddy’s luxurious yacht sank without a trace after we got in touch!

And so I’m warning you. If you haven’t watched X-Men ‘97 ’s fifth episode, take extra care with TikTok’s search function, as today, one of the trending topics’ names might spoil a big development for you (as it just did me).

Instead of tapping TikTok’s search icon, I’d suggest reading Charles’ interview with the show’s sound designers.

MOREMAN Restaurant at Avrora Yacht Club

Ratings and reviews, location and contact.

There is varied menu: raw bar with good sea-urchins, hot and cold starters, main dishes and desserts. Good cocktails and wine card. There is a big terrace. This club is located near the water (it’s obvious:) ), but the view is a partly industrial -... there is construction on the opposite bank and this ruins the view. This restaurant is spacious and it suits for different events. More

Do Voters Care About Policy Even a Little?

Joe Biden turned one of the highest-polling ideas in politics into reality. Few voters have even noticed.

A medicine capsule whose top is Joe Biden's face

Suppose the president asked you to design the ideal piece of legislation—the perfect mix of good politics and good policy. You’d probably want to pick something that saves people a lot of money. You’d want it to fix a problem that people have been mad about for a long time, in an area that voters say they care about a lot—such as, say, health care. You’d want it to appeal to voters across the political spectrum. And you’d want it to be a policy that polls well.

You would, in other words, want something like letting Medicare negotiate prescription-drug prices. This would make drugs much more affordable for senior citizens—who vote like crazy—and, depending on the poll , it draws support from 80 to 90 percent of voters. The idea has been championed by both Bernie Sanders and Joe Manchin. Turn it into reality, and surely you’d see parades in your honor in retirement communities across the country.

Except Joe Biden did turn that idea into reality, and he seems to have gotten approximately zero credit for it. Tucked into the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 was a series of measures to drastically lower prescription-drug costs for seniors, including by allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices. And yet Biden trails Donald Trump in most election polls and has one of the lowest approval ratings of any president in modern American history.

In that respect, drug pricing is a microcosm of Biden’s predicament—and a challenge to conventional theories of politics, in which voters reward politicians for successful legislation. Practically nothing is more popular than lowering drug prices, and yet the popularity hasn’t materialized. Which raises an uncomfortable question: Politically speaking, does policy matter at all?

High drug prices are not a fact of nature. In 2018, the average list price of a month’s worth of insulin was $12 in Canada, $11 in Germany, and $7 in Australia. In the U.S., it was $99. America today spends more than seven times per person on retail prescription drugs than it did in 1980, and more than one in four adults taking prescription drugs in the U.S. report difficulty affording them.

Short of direct price caps, the most obvious way to address the problem is to let Medicare—which, with 65 million members, is the nation’s largest insurer—negotiate prices with drug manufacturers. Just about every other rich country does a version of this, which is partly why Americans pay nearly three times more for prescription drugs than Europeans and Canadians do. Price negotiation would slash costs for Medicare beneficiaries, while cutting annual federal spending by tens of billions of dollars.

The pharmaceutical industry argues that lower prices will leave companies with less money to invest in inventing new, life-saving medicines. But the Congressional Budget Office recently estimated that even if drug companies’ profits dropped 15 to 25 percent as a result of price negotiation, that would prevent only 1 percent of all new drugs from coming to market over the next decade.

Ezekiel J. Emanuel: Big Pharma’s go-to defense of soaring drug prices doesn’t add up

Medicare drug-price negotiation has nonetheless had a tortured three-decade journey to becoming law. Bill Clinton made it a central plank of his push to overhaul the American health-care system, an effort that went down in flames after a massive opposition campaign by all corners of the health-care industry. Barack Obama campaigned on the idea but quickly abandoned it in order to win drug companies’ support for the Affordable Care Act. In 2016, even Donald Trump promised to “negotiate like crazy” on drug prices, but he never did.

Joe Biden accomplished what none of his predecessors could. The Inflation Reduction Act is best known for its clean-energy investments, but it also empowered Medicare to negotiate prices for the drugs that seniors spend the most money on. In February of this year, negotiations began for the first 10 of those drugs , on which Medicare patients collectively spend $3.4 billion out of pocket every year—a number that will go down dramatically when the newly negotiated prices come into effect. The IRA will also cap Medicare patients’ out-of-pocket costs for all drugs, including those not included on the negotiation list, at $2,000 a year, and the cost of insulin in particular at $35 a month. (In 2022, the top 10 anticancer drugs cost a Medicare patient $10,000 to $15,000 a year on average.) And it effectively prohibits drug companies from raising prices on other medications faster than inflation. “Right now, many people have to choose between getting the care they need and not going broke,” Stacie Dusetzina, a cancer researcher at Vanderbilt University, told me. “These new policies change that.”

Yet they don’t seem to have caused voters to warm up to Biden. The president’s approval rating has remained stuck at about 40 percent since before the IRA passed, lower than any other president at this point in his term since Harry Truman. A September AP/NORC poll found that even though more than three-quarters of Americans supported the drug-price negotiation, just 48 percent approved of how Biden was handling the issue of prescription-drug prices. A similar dynamic holds across other elements of the Biden agenda. In polls, more than two-thirds of voters say they support Biden’s three major legislative accomplishments—the IRA, the CHIPS Act, and the bipartisan infrastructure bill—and many individual policies in those bills, including raising taxes on the wealthy and investing in domestic manufacturing, poll in the 70s and 80s.

All of this poses a particular challenge for the “popularism” theory. After Biden barely squeaked by Donald Trump in 2020, an influential group of pollsters, pundits, and political consultants began arguing that the Democratic Party had become associated with policies, such as “Defund the police,” that alienated swing voters. If Democrats were serious about winning elections, the argument went, they would have to focus on popular “kitchen table” issues and shut up about their less mainstream views on race and immigration. Drug-price negotiation quickly became the go-to example; David Shor, a political consultant known for popularizing popularism, highlighted it as the single most popular of the nearly 200 policies his polling firm had tested in 2021.

One obvious possibility for why this has not translated into support for the president is that voters simply care more about other things, such as inflation . Another is that they are unaware of what Biden has done. A KFF poll from December found that less than a third of voters knows that the IRA allows Medicare to negotiate drug prices, and even fewer are aware of the bill’s other drug-related provisions. Perhaps that’s because these changes mostly haven’t happened yet. The $2,000 cap on out-of-pocket costs doesn’t come into effect until 2025, and the first batch of new negotiated prices won’t kick in until 2026. Or perhaps, as some popularists argue, it’s because Biden and his allies haven’t talked about those things enough. “I’m concerned that Democrats are dramatically underperforming their potential in terms of talking about healthcare policy and making healthcare debates a salient issue in 2024,” the blogger Matthew Yglesias wrote in October.

When I raised this critique with current and former members of the Biden administration, the sense of frustration was palpable. “The president is constantly talking about things like lowering drug prices and building roads and bridges,” Bharat Ramamurti, a former deputy director for Biden’s National Economic Council, told me. “We read the same polling as everyone else. We know those are popular.” He pointed out that, for instance, Biden has spoken at length about lowering prescription-drug prices in every one of his State of the Union addresses.

The problem, Ramamurti argues, is that the press doesn’t necessarily cover what the president says. Student-debt cancellation gets a lot of coverage because it generates a lot of conflict: progressives against moderates, activists against economists, young against old—which makes for juicy stories. The unfortunate paradox of super-popular policies is that, almost by definition, they fail to generate the kind of drama needed to get people to pay attention to them.

Both sides have a point here. It’s true that Biden’s drug-pricing policies have received relatively little media coverage, but it’s also up to politicians and their campaigns to find creative ways to generate interest in the issues they want people to focus on. Simply listing policy accomplishments in a speech or releasing a fact sheet about how they will help people isn’t enough. (The same problem applies to other issue areas. According to a Data for Progress poll , for example, only 41 percent of likely voters were aware as of early March that Biden had increased investments in infrastructure.)

Ronald Brownstein: Americans really don’t like Trump’s health-care plans

For the White House, the task of getting the word out may become easier in the coming months, as voters finally begin to feel the benefits of the administration’s policies. The cap on annual out-of-pocket drug costs kicked in only at the beginning of the year (this year, it’s about $3,500, and it will fall to $2,000 in 2025); presumably some Medicare-enrolled voters will notice as their medication costs hit that number. In September, just in time for the election, Biden will announce new prices for the 10 drugs currently being negotiated.

Another assist could come from efforts to stop the law from taking effect. Last year, multiple pharmaceutical companies and industry lobbying groups filed lawsuits , many in jurisdictions with Trump-appointed judges, to prevent Medicare from negotiating drug prices; meanwhile, congressional Republicans have publicly come out against the IRA overall and drug-price caps in particular. As the failed effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act in 2017 showed , few things rally support for a policy like the prospect of it being taken away.

The more pessimistic outlook is that voters’ impressions of political candidates have little to do with the legislation those candidates pass or the policies they support. Patrick Ruffini, a co-founder of the polling firm Echelon Insights, pointed out to me that, in 2020, when voters were asked which presidential candidate was more competent, Biden had a nine-point advantage over Trump; today Trump has a 16-point advantage. “I don’t know if there’s any amount of passing popular policies that can overcome that,” Ruffini said.

That doesn’t make the policy stakes of the upcoming election any lower. If he’s reelected, Biden wants to expand Medicare’s drug negotiation to 50 drugs a year and extend the out-of-pocket spending caps to the general population. Trump, meanwhile, has said he is going to “totally kill” the Affordable Care Act and that he intends to dismantle the IRA. There’s some drama for you. Whether it will get anyone’s attention remains to be seen.
