Oyster 495 50 Foot Sailing Yacht Boat at anchor

Unmistakably Oyster

The latest collaboration between humphreys yacht design and our in-house design studio, the new 495 50 foot sailing yacht is an evolution of five decades of iconic oyster design cues..

Her clean hull lines and wide beam aft are the foundation for the outstanding space and capabilities of the Oyster 495. She incorporates many of our big yacht features in a compact 50 foot yacht. Instantly recognisable as an Oyster, the Oyster 495 features our pioneering deck saloon, protected cockpit and helm stations, wraparound and forward-opening saloon windows. Flush decks, signature triple vertical seascape windows, foredeck skyscape windows, a powerful plumb bow and extended bowsprit complete the look.

We were the first boat builder to create a truly ergonomically designed cockpit and helm positions, with sprayhood and optional bimini for additional protection. Details like the cockpit table, with optional built-in refrigerated drinks locker, that comfortably seats up to eight people, is just one of the many triumphs of Oyster design thinking.

The Oyster 495 consistently delivers powerful, responsive and rewarding performance in safety and comfort.

Nine knots is her happy place and her well-balanced, stable wide-beamed hull form gives you confidence to keep the sails up in almost any conditions. Twin rudders make her light and agile on the helm, offering fingertip control even in the most boisterous seas. Her low centre of gravity keel offers substantial displacement for enhanced stability and handling, and she moves easily in cruising trim. Carrying significant sail power, you are guaranteed consistently fast cruising speeds and the optional sprayhood and bimini provide excellent protection from the sun, whilst improving all-round comfort.

This 50 foot sailboat for sale offers the range of innovative automated sailing technology. This includes in-mast furling with push-button controls and B&G instruments, all operated from the helm positions, making her the perfect choice for couples or young families.

The Oyster 495 features lots of space to relax and share good times with friends and family.

Her wide beam offers unexpected returns in space, both above and below decks – something you will not find on any other 50 foot sailboat for sale. The beautifully styled centre cockpit is perfect for entertaining up to eight people for alfresco dining. The aft pushpit seats are a great place to see all the action under sail. The wide teak deck at the stern and flush foredeck offer generous entertaining and sunbathing spaces.

The transom houses an innovative, push-button operated, cassette boarding/bathing platform. A choice of subtle mood lighting and integrated audio speakers let you set the tone for entertaining guests under the stars.

New generation interiors feature modern styling, integrated technology and equipment for truly luxurious entertaining and living spaces.

Oyster Yachts 495 Interior Luxury

The learnings of half a century of designing and building bluewater cruisers feed into every detail, and the insights of our owners, skippers and crew, sailors and our own team help fine-tune every aspect of the design and build. The result is a unique combination of design, technology, engineering and hand-crafted build quality. Beautiful hardwoods run throughout every inch of this exquisite 50 foot sailboat, in everything from hand-built furniture to intuitively placed grab rails. This focus on detail reveals itself in the beautiful, hand-crafted cabinetry and the easily accessible, carefully labelled cables and pipework that run behind the scenes to make maintenance tasks simple.

The Oyster 495 is a truly connected 50 foot yacht with all the latest technology you need to stay in touch, however remote your location.

Not only does it make her an ideal liveaboard yacht, but it also makes her a work-aboard yacht. Every system is chosen for its ruggedness and fitness for purpose. The chart table is a technology hub, featuring an optional, innovative, foldout, integrated PC; lift-top desk; plotter; VHF and SSB radios; power management; generator control; switchboard; and plenty of power sockets. Oyster’s proprietary digital switching system – Oyster Command™ – lets you monitor and control various systems over a digital network and touchscreen. Optional WIFI can be accessed through the latest satellite technology, or 4G/5G cellular antenna when close to onshore radio masts. Entertainment systems are seamlessly integrated, with a concealed saloon TV and audio running throughout the boat.

14 Great Pocket Cruisers in 2023

  • By Victor Tan
  • Updated: July 20, 2023

Pocket cruisers and mini yachts are generally vessels under 50 feet in length overall, and can include express cruiser designs, flybridge yachts as well as either monohull or catamaran hull forms. They are cruising boats easily handled by a small, or even shorthanded, crew. Pocket cruisers generally have wave-taming hull designs and have the ability to take on sporty seas, offer comfortable accommodations belowdecks with one or two staterooms for extended voyages, “homelike amenities,” and the ability to cruise as slowly or as quickly as an owner desires with inboard- and outboard-power options. These pocket-cruising boats have the range for longer voyages , can pull up in skinny water at the sandbar thanks to shallow drafts, and head over the horizon where cruising adventure awaits. Pocket cruisers are true multitasking yachts. When it comes to family and couples cruising, it’s hard to beat a well-built and well-equipped and pocket cruiser.

Best Cruising Boats Under 50-Feet

The following 14 pocket cruisers and mini yachts are all vessels we’ve seen, been aboard, and tested. They are listed in no particular order.

  • Hood 35 LM: high-tech, family-friendly pocket cruiser
  • Galeon Yachts 375 GTO: mid-size boat with plenty of below-deck space
  • Aquila 42: sleek power catamaran ready to entertain
  • Azimut Verve 42 : small, yet mighty yacht ready for open water
  • Hinckley Yachts 35: luxury picnic cruiser with range
  • Beneteau Gran Turismo 45: sleek cruising yacht with all the amenities
  • Solaris Power 48 Open: eye-catching power yacht with 360-degree views
  • Cruisers Yachts 42 GLS: luxury cruiser yacht with powerful outboard options
  • Back Cove 34O: modern outboard power combined with classic Downeast styling
  • Picnic Boat 40: speedy and fuel-efficient vessel with great looks
  • Aquila 36: comfortably seat up to 20 guests for fun on the salt
  • Boston Whaler 350 Realm: multitasker built for fishing and entertaining
  • MJM 35z: sporty, aesthetically pleasing, cruising-conscious features and elegant lines
  • Greenline 39: sturdy-looking lines and environmentally-friendly power

When Android co-founder, Rich Miner, wanted a new family-friendly pocket cruiser , he turned to a custom-penned C.W. Hood design and a Lyman-Morse-built 35-footer, which has a timeless Down East profile matched to seriously modern technology under the hood.

This yacht looks like a traditional, cold-molded Down East dayboat, but actually, it has everything, from Hamilton HJX Series water-jet drives to a planned Sea Machines autonomous command-and-control system . Top speed: 40-plus knots.

Galeon Yachts 375 GTO

Even the remnants of Hurricane Ian, couldn’t dissuade the Galeon Yacht 375 GTO from its cruising mission. The small yacht’s wave-splitting hull form is paired to torque-filled 600 hp Mercury Verado outboards , giving this fun-in-the-sun boat a 47-knot top hop.

The 375 GTO is a speedster, to be sure, but it’s also so much more. Just about every aspect of the main deck seating is transformable and multifunction, from the aft seating to the alfresco dining abaft the helm, and beyond. It also has a family-size and eminently cruise-worthy belowdecks space for four guests, all while providing a foredeck entertaining lounge too.

The Galeon Yachts 375 GTO ticks all the boxes for an easy-to-handle and sporty cruiser.

Aquila 42 Yacht Power Catamaran

Following the success of its 44-, 54- and 70-foot power catamaran models, Aquila has launched the stable-as-a-table, owner-operator-ready Aquila 42 Yacht Power Catamaran .

The Aquila 42 is the entry point into the builder’s yacht line and is noteworthy for its ability to accommodate anywhere from a two- to four-stateroom layout, depending on the owner’s cruising requirements. There are alfresco spaces to manage the sunset cruise with friends and family, including a foredeck lounge area that can be accessed via centerline steps from the flybridge. The Aquila 42 is available with several Volvo Penta diesel-engine options .

Azimut Verve 42

Want to cruise from Florida to Bimini in about an hour? The Azimut Yachts Verve 42 can do that thanks, in part, to triple 450 hp Mercury Racing outboards and a hull designed to dice-and-slice a seaway. Top hop: 45 knots. The Verve 42 also has style for miles with a fine entry, raked hardtop, and a razorlike sheerline accented by sweeping hull glass from bow to stern. It’s striking.

With accommodation for a family of four, the Verve 42 is also solid under the hull tokeep everyone safe on those passages. The Verve 42’s hull is built of fiberglass and uses vinylester resins for blister protection. The yacht’s deck and hardtop are comprised of carbon fiber for strength without added weight. This all means that the Azimut Verve 42 is built to CE Classification Type A , making it suitable for sea voyages where winds can exceed 45 mph and seas to 13 feet.

Hinckley Yachts 35

The Hinckley Yachts 35 takes everything that yachtsmen like about this pedigreed-brand’s classic profile and infuses today’s modern outboard power to create 40 knots of sheer fun wrapped in sheer luxury.

This 35-foot Hinckley is built on a Michael-Peters-penned hull form with a fine entry, wider-than-average chines and a moderate deadrise. While the boat is built to sprint when desired, it’s also a relatively economical cruiser. For instance, a comfortable 24-knot cruise the Hinckley Yachts 35 has a 276-nautical-mile range.

It also has a tech-build thanks to vacuum-infused carbon-fiber composites and epoxy resin. An integrated interior structure is infused with the hull adding rigidity. The hull is then post-cured in an 80-foot oven, further strengthening the structure.

Beneteau Gran Turismo 45

The Beneteau Gran Turismo is the flagship of the builder’s four-model GT series, which also includes 32-, 36- and 41-foot models.

The Gran Turismo 45 ’s cruise-centric layout includes two staterooms and two heads belowdecks, as well as a galley down. There is also a dinette for meals and a settee for rainy-day lounging. Entertaining guests and enjoying the sun is the primary mission of the main deck.

Solaris Power 48 Open

The Solaris Power 48 Open was the first powerboat from this longtime builder known for its sailing yachts, ranging from 40 to 110 feet length overall. The Solaris Power 48 Open is notable for its wave-slicing plumb-bow design, high freeboard forward and 32-knot-plus speed. Power is twin 480 hp Volvo Penta IPS650 diesels.

The high freeboard keeps the deck dry and help creates sizable volume belowdecks with an average 6-foot-6-inch headroom. This enables real estate for either one or two staterooms. With the single-stateroom setup, there is a forepeak master stateroom while an L-shaped settee converts to sleeping accommodations for family or occasional guests. Interior wood options are oak or walnut.

Cruisers Yachts 42 GLS

Outboard-power cruising aficionados will appreciate the triple-engine options for the Cruisers Yachts 42 GLS . The 42 GLS we got aboard had the triple 400 hp Mercury Verados , which produced a top hop of 45 knots, but triple 450 hp Verados are available. Triple 350 hp Mercury Verados are the standard engine option. No matter the power arrangement, this express cruiser can easily be used for wakeboarding and tube towing. The 42 GLS is designed to handle the rough stuff too, with a fine entry and 21-degree transom deadrise.

For cruising enthusiasts, the 42 GLS has a master stateroom with an athwartships and a nearly queen-size berth, and the lower salon’s U-shaped dinette converts to a queen-size berth for the kids.

Back Cove 34O

Combining modern outboard power with classic Downeast styling, the Back Cove 34O touts award-winning standards with cruising in mind. The 34O is equipped with twin 300 hp Yamaha outboards, engines that allow the Newport International Boat Show’s 2018 Best Powerboat Under 35 Feet winner to travel up to 214 nautical miles at 24 knots on a 250-gallon fuel tank.

Belowdecks, the 34O has an island double berth and a split-head arrangement with the toilet to port and a separate shower stall to starboard. On the main deck, a U-shape dinette to port accommodates four or more guests on the Back Cove Yachts vessel. The 34O’s galley is equipped with a Cuisinart microwave, a two-burner Kenyon electric cooktop and a Vitrifrigo fridge and freezer.

Picnic Boat 40

Hinckley Yachts unveiled its first Picnic Boat more than two decades ago. Now, after two previous, sub-40-foot models, the Maine-based boatbuilder has developed its largest and most advanced model to date: the Picnic Boat 40.

Twin 480 hp Cummins diesel engines paired to twin Hamilton 322 jet drives propel the yacht to a 30-knot cruising speed and 34 knots on the pins. With optional twin 550 hp Cummins diesels, cruise and top-end speeds jump to 35 and 38 knots, respectively.

There is an L-shaped settee with a table and a wet bar on the main deck to port. The helm station is forward and to starboard with a benchseat for two. There is also a companion seat across from the helm. Belowdecks, there is 6-foot-2-inch headroom, and the dinette table drops to form a California-king berth for overnights and weekending.

Aquila Power Catamarans started its line with 44- and 48-footers, and now the builder’s Aquila 36 takes the line into the midsize market.

The 36 features a single, main-living area from bow to stern, helped in part by the vessel’s 14-foot, 7-inch beam. The boat can comfortably seat up to 20 guests for fun on the salt. Several Mercury Verado engine options are available for the Aquila 36, including twin 250-, 300- and 350-hp four-strokes. With the 350s, the Aquila has a top-end speed of 37 knots.

Other notable features include a fiberglass hardtop, a dinette, a cooktop, a fridge, a sink and a smokeless grill. Belowdecks, there are two staterooms with nearly queen-size berths, en suite heads and 6-foot-6-inch headroom in each.

Boston Whaler 350 Realm

From fishing and entertaining guests to diving and overnight cruising, Boston Whaler ‘s 350 Realm is a multitasker. And it’s fast, too. It’s powered with either triple 300 hp or triple 350 hp Mercury Verados. The 350 Realm can reach a top speed of 46 knots.

At the helm, two Raymarine displays provide vital navigation data. The captain can take in the displays’ view from a doublewide helm seat. There’s a flip-down platform for standing when needed and a footrest when desired.

There is a V-shaped berth that converts into a double berth with a filler cushion. The separated head has a VacuFlush MSD and a hot-and-cold shower. Owners also have the option to add a microwave and a flat-screen TV.

The MJM 35z can reach a top speed of 44 knots and a cruising speed of 33 knots on its optional 350 hp Mercury Verado outboards; twin 300 hp outboards are standard on this MJM Yachts vessel. Additionally, the 35z can travel up to 304 nautical miles on its 250-gallon fuel tank.

The 35z has a flush-deck layout and to port is space for an electric grill, a baitwell, a sink, an ice maker and a fridge. There are two Stidd helm seats—one for the helmsman and the other for a copilot—that rotate to face the rest of the seating aft. In the cabin is V-shaped seating forward that can be converted to a berth.

Owners also have the option of adding a Seakeeper 3 gyrostabilizer and a full-length Bimini top to shade the cockpit.

Greenline 39

Greenline Yachts ‘ vessels are aptly named for their environmentally friendly means of moving about; the Greenline 39 is no different. The Slovenian yacht manufacturer produces two types of this model: hybrid and solar.

If owners opt for the latter, the 39’s four solar panels atop the salon power all of the vessel’s systems for three hours. With the power of the sun, the 39 can achieve a max speed of 6.5 knots and a cruising speed of 4 knots. The hybrid type uses those same panels to help power a 220 hp Volvo Penta D3 with a Mahle electric-drive system. Owners have the option of replacing the standard engine with a 370 hp Yanmar 8LV diesel.

Belowdecks, scissor berths provide accommodations for long weekends.

Size and design of the sailboat

The best sailboats in this category offer a well-balanced blend of performance, storage, and living space. As many of these boats are designed for long-distance cruising, having ample storage for provisions, equipment, and personal items is essential. While smaller sailboats might be more affordable and easier to handle, you'll need to strike a balance between size and the level of comfort you desire on extended voyages.

Durability of a bluewater sailboat

These boat's hulls are typically constructed with sturdy, long-lasting materials like fiberglass, steel, or even aluminum. Additionally, the rigging and deck hardware should be robust, capable of withstanding harsh weather conditions and continuous use. As you evaluate potential bluewater sailboats, pay attention to the quality of the craftsmanship and materials used throughout the boat, as this will largely determine its ability to handle the rigors of ocean sailing.

Seaworthiness of the sailboat

This characteristic refers to a boat's ability to handle rough seas, high winds, and other challenging conditions that you might encounter on your journeys. A seaworthy sailboat should exhibit:

  • A stable, well-designed hull that can efficiently cut through waves
  • A deep, secure cockpit to protect the crew from the elements
  • High-quality, easily accessible safety equipment
  • Solid, watertight hatches and portlights

When evaluating a sailboat's seaworthiness, it's important to consider its design, construction, and previous ocean-crossing performance, if available.

Comfort and livability of the boat

As you'll likely be spending extended periods at sea, it's essential to have a comfortable living space to make your journey more enjoyable. Key factors in comfort and livability include:

  • A roomy, well-ventilated cabin with ample headroom
  • Adequate sleeping arrangements for the crew
  • A functional galley for meal preparation
  • Efficient systems for heating, ventilation, and lighting
To learn more about bluewater sailing , here's our comprehensive article on it.

Let's discuss a few key factors you should look for to find the perfect bluewater sailboat for your needs.

Size matters : As we're focusing on sailboats under 50 feet, it's important to think about how the size of the boat will impact your cruising experience. Smaller sailboats tend to be easier to manage and maintain, while larger ones typically offer more space and comfort. Take into account your sailing skills and the size of your crew when making a decision.

Design and construction : A well-built sailboat plays a vital role in your safety and success when sailing in blue waters. Look for proven bluewater sailboat designs, like those found on Waterborne Magazine's list or Yachting World's selection. A solid construction and well-maintained hull will ensure your boat can withstand the rigors of offshore sailing.

Budget and maintenance costs : It's crucial to consider not only the initial purchase price but also the ongoing maintenance costs when choosing your bluewater sailboat. Established designs often have a good track record for reliability, which can help keep costs down in the long run. Some sailboats under $100,000 can still provide excellent bluewater cruising experiences.

Sailing purpose and destination : Your choice of sailboat will also depend on the type of sailing you plan to do and the destinations you wish to visit. Are you looking for a boat to tackle lengthy ocean passages or a vessel for coastal cruising? Each type might require different features and focuses, so plan accordingly.

Creature comforts and functionality : Finally, think about the amenities you want on your bluewater sailboat—you'll be spending quite some time onboard. A functional galley, comfortable sleeping arrangements, and a functional navigation station are just a few of the features that can make your sailing experience more enjoyable.

The X Factor: Fast, Fun Cruising

Perhaps no category in the 2016 BOTY field was as beguiling as this four-boat class of yachts ranging in size from 45 to 49 feet, and in price from $525,000 to over a million dollars. Two entries, the Hallberg-Rassy MKIII and Oyster 475 , were from long-established builders with deeply loyal followers. Another, the Azuree 46 , was from a fresh BOTY player entering a highly contemporary yacht. The fourth, the Xc 45 , came from a company long revered for its racing boats, now establishing an impressive presence among cruising sailors.

Of this quartet, the Azuree 46 was the least expensive, but it also boasts a fine pedigree: Renowned English naval architect Rob Humphreys is the designer, and one of the company’s principals was for many years a key member of another fine British institution, the Camper & Nicholsons yard. The Azuree is manufactured in Turkey, a nation with a long-standing boatbuilding tradition. “Azuree has made some big investments in CNC machines and is able to do a lot of high-tech production,” said Tim Murphy.

“The Azuree 46 is very sleek, with twin rudders and other go-fast features,” noted Alvah Simon.

Still, it was a far different boat, from Sweden, that impressed the judges with its notable sailing ability, particularly in light air. “The Hallberg-Rassy Mk III exhibits a high build quality in many ways,” said Murphy. “It employs vinylester resin in the laminate, ensuring true osmosis protection. They’re also using Divinycell closed-cell foam in the core, which helps explain how this ample cruising boat did perform so well. They’ve succeeded in keeping excess weight out of it.”

Coincidentally, Rob Humphreys was responsible for a second fine yacht in this category, the Oyster 475 .

“What I’ve loved about Oysters from the beginning is that they seem to be true seamen’s boats,” said Simon, seconding that notion on the 475. “Every time I look for a safety feature, there’s a padeye here, a jackline there, a handhold where I need one, a little higher lifeline. They have a lot of standard equipment that comes with the boat, which I appreciate.”

Yes, the judges felt an affinity for certain features in each boat in this division. But the panel also felt that everything really came together in the nominee from Denmark, which is why they unanimously recognized the Xc 45 as 2016’s Best Full-Size Cruiser Under 50 Feet .

“This was interesting because in the past, we thought of X-Yachts as very racing- or performance-oriented,” said Murphy. “But the lowercase ‘c’ refers to ‘cruising’ and is really meaningful, as they’re doing something very different from what they usually do. Their goal was to create a long-range cruising boat, so they built in the volume in the hull for the tankage and storage you need for the long haul. But they’ve also preserved one of their landmark techniques, which is a steel grid in the heart of the boat with everything like chainplate loads attached to it. So you’ve got a very strong, stiff boat that also sails well. It’s sort of the best of both worlds.” “This one was a surprise to me,” noted Sherman.

“At least in my experience with X-Yachts, this is their first serious attempt at creating a nice, dedicated cruising boat,” he said. “And I think they did a great job with it.”

10 Amazing Boats that are Under 50 Feet

From the dominance of mahogany decks to an era of carbon fiber construction and cutting edge technology, the nautical world has come of age. Anyone who has been paying attention can easily attest to the drastic metamorphoses of boats across the world. There are yachts that look more like sci-fi vessels, sports boats that are intriguing enough to make Batman jealous, and even race boats that could be featured in a James Bond movie.

Here are ten amazing boats that are under 50 feet.

Azuree 46 - $266,000

We start this list on a lighter note with the recently crowned “boat of the year” Azuree 46. When it comes to luxury, speed, and convenience, nothing sums up these little combinations better than the 46-foot Azuree. Built by the Turkish company Sirena Marine from Rob Hamphreys’ design, the boat was introduced to the U.S at the 2015 Miami Boat Show, featuring twin rudders and a gigantic cockpit with seats that convert into sun beds and a fold down swim platform. Below the deck, there are three cabins, 2 heads, and a galley and open salon. Owners will also have the option of adding a distinct single cabin for a professional crew.

MTI ZR48 Corvette Boat - $1.7 million

If Batman had a boat, chances are it would be the MTI ZR48 corvette. With a force of 2700hp from its twin turbo V8 Mercury Marine engine, the super boat can reach a maximum speed of 180mph. Marine Technology Inc drew inspiration from a Corvette ZR1 vehicle when creating the ZR48. It is constructed from carbon fiber and benefits from several auto-inspired touches like Corvette badges, authentic tail lights, and sleek body lines. The custom designed gull wing doors open up to a similarly elegant interior, including a genuine C6 dash, authentic steering wheel and shifter, and cockpit. All in all, the boat is designed to accommodate 6 people, who get to enjoy luxuries such as an LED display system with 900 lights, engine flush system, power washer, a generator, and five TVs.

42 Lightning

Dubbed as the most illustrious race boat ever, the 42 Lighting holds a record with the most national and international championship victories in the history of the world, in the V-bottom category. It has broken 8 world speed records, averaging 171.883mph in its fastest 2-way attempt. More than winning, the 42 Lighting has dominated races for the last two decades.

The Bionic Dolphin - $3.5 million

Inspired by the desire to bypass the challenges of exploring the deep seas, Thomas “Doc” Rowe invented the Bionic Dolphin, christening it the Variable Attitude Submersible Hydrofoil (or more simply VASH). The boat uses a 425HP engine that can hit speeds of up to 88kmph on water. It is constructed from Deep sea and aerospace composite materials to tolerate the formidable conditions in the sea, leading to a strong combination of durability, flexibility, strength, and buoyancy. In fact, the material is several times stronger than steel, enhancing its ability to withstand serious impact. The exterior of the Bionic Dolphin is a mixture of materials such as Kevlar (which can be also be found in bullet proof vests) and carbon fiber.

Porsche Fearless 28 - $299,000

The Fearless 28 design is a breath of fresh air. Designed by the Porsche Design Studio using computers and laser technology, the 28’ vessel was the first in line for a new category that’s supposed to include 4 larger models. Weighing 5,000 pounds, the Fearless 28 is reminiscent of a sports car when riding the waters. It can accommodate up to 5 people and comes with a reinforced carbon and seamless fiberglass hull. Unlike the familiar cumbersome and singularly designed hulls, the Fearless 28 employs a thinner hull that was achieved in a 5-step process. It is equipped with leather seats boasting ergonomic bolster support that ensures 100 percent safety, even when the boat is cruising at 80mph.

Evo 43 - $600,000

Evo Yachts, which is manufactured under the SE (Sea Engineering umbrella) along with Blu Marin and Blue Ice, can trace its yacht-making history to just 2008. To this end, the company may not be as experienced as its more famous counterparts, but the debut of the Evo 43 was definitely a game changer. The boat features a nice blend of modern accessories with classical lines. Fender hooks and foldaway cleats add up to keep the deck and hull lines clean. The cockpit comes with cube shaped seats with multi-purpose functionalities, allowing you to configure it according to your preferred activities. An ice box, sink, and hob are hidden behind the doors, hatches, and seats.

Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrow - $1.7 million

Spotted along the French Riviera coast, off St-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, this luxury vessel looks more like a blend between a car and a boat. The Silver Arrow is the Mercedes Benz’s first attempt in the world of motor yachts. It measures a little over 46’ long and an asking price of about $1.7 million that guarantees pleasure, style, and luxury. The moniker “Silver Arrow of the Seas” was inspired by the marque’s racing cars of the 1930s.

The Kormaran K7 - $1.4 million

The Kormaran K7 is one of the most futuristic boats in this list. The boat was created by the Italian Sea Engineering Group, from the design of Italian naval engineer Valerio Rivellini. The construction combined FEM (Finite Element Methods) with CAD (Computer-aided design) to achieve the final product. The boat also features a structural carbon fiber monocoque reminiscent of a Formula One car. The hydrofoil technology and Transformation System used in the Kormaran allows the boat to drive in shallow waters and land on shore! Thanks to the butterfly wings and the adjustable bathing platform, the Kormaran can transform into a luxury island perfect for partying, diving and swimming, sunbathing, or simply chilling in a comfy lounge.

MTI 48 Phantom - $1.3 million

Designed for high performance offshore racing, the MTI 48-foot Phantom is built to withstand the fastest, biggest, and most demanding conditions anywhere in the world. The boat comes with a new computer modeled hull and a large 11-foot 6-inch beam, which were achieved after a comprehensive engineering and testing by Marine Technology Inc’s internationally renowned engineering staff. With impeccable orchestration and a force of 2,700 horse powers, the 48 Race Series is a breathtaking sight.

Back Cove Downeast 37 - $679,500

The idea behind the design of the Back Cove Downeast 37 was to provide one of the most spacious decks on a boat in its class while incorporating gorgeous lines that would leave dock walkers gasping in awe. The result is a beautiful profile with a cockpit that extends up to twenty feet, making it an excellent boat for a family trip on the big blue. What’s more, the boat comes with convertible seating that is elevated to provide excellent views of the ocean.

Our flagship Outback 50 completely re-defines recreational yachting

With more deck space than any yacht in her class, the outback 50 offers the ultimate experience in outdoor living..

An elegant yet modest interior extends naturally from the aft deck, providing expansive views and emphasizing comfort and easy living.

Her uniquely designed hull, shallow draft, and aft engine placement create a smooth, quiet, and comfortable ride.

The Outback 50 is also extremely economical, requiring only 600 total hp to push her to 20 knots.

Whether you’re out on the water for the day, a weekend adventure, or a longer offshore cruise, the revolutionary Outback 50 offers endless possibilities. Fish, dive, or dine from the expansive aft deck, or easily launch your tender, jet-skis, kayaks, or other water toys to enjoy your favorite anchorage.

Find out why it’s more fun “out back!”

Michael Peters Design

Award-winning naval architect and yacht designer Michael Peters has created a clean, contemporary design for the Outback 50 based on our shared vision of a unique motor yacht that combines style, function and performance.

Designed specifically for outdoor living, the Outback 50 is extremely versatile, providing comfort, efficiency, and performance unique among  cruising yachts or traditional trawlers her size.

Best luxury yacht: 7 ultimate luxury cruisers you can buy

  • Toby Hodges
  • March 14, 2024

Toby Hodges takes a look at all the nominees and the winner of the best luxury yacht category in the European Yacht of the Year Awards

The definition of the best luxury yacht will differ according to personal opinion and from boat to boat. This year’s nominees in the luxury yacht category of the European Yacht of the Year Awards proved that perfectly.

The European Yacht of the Year awards are selected by a broad panel of expert judges from across the globe. These are people who spend their professional lives sailing and comparing yachts, so you can be certain that the yachts which stand out in this field are truly the best of the best on the market.

The best luxury yachts

Best luxury yacht winner 2024 – arcona 50.

When you enter the fiercely competitive 50ft luxury performance yacht market you better get it right. And the jury felt Arcona managed that. This watershed design for the traditional Swedish brand, by X-Yachts co-founder and former designer Niels Jeppesen, is a big, contemporary new Arcona, one that sees it move away from its cruiser-racer heritage and classic interiors.

The on trend styling inside and out is backed up by a premium level of build and finish quality and sailing performance – particularly if you have the performance sails, traveller and deep (2.95m) keel options the test boat carried, although the latter does limit your berthing and anchoring options.

While I doubt it’ll be raced or will suit typical bluewater use, it offers a purity of performance push-button sailing: a handsome prospect upwind in a light breeze, it transforms into a powerful reaching machine with stacks of control.

As chairman of our jury, Jochen Rieker, puts it: “The boat certainly did not win for her somewhat borrowed looks. She wins by checking all the boxes in all other respects. Slipping along gracefully in the lightest of airs, holding her stride and her balance in more demanding conditions, offering warmth, light and this reassuring feeling of utter quality down below – there simply isn’t anything to fault.”

Contest 50CS

The Contest 50CS, for example, is an archetype luxury cruising yacht, one built to the highest standards and that could take you to most waters in impeccable comfort. This model is, uniquely, available in two versions: this more conventional 50CS with aft master cabin, or the forward owner’s suite version on the aft cockpit Contest 49CS . We ran a full test on the latter after spending two days aboard in the North Sea, where that noticeably high freeboard, which may not aid boarding nor windage, helped keep us dry on deck in a steady Force 6 gusting 7.

As the 50CS proved, this Judel/Vrolijk design keeps slipping along in the light stuff too, providing enjoyable sailing in 6 knots breeze under a code sail. The centre cockpit offers a deep protected guest area, but also links well to the spacious aft deck.

And the Wetzels-Brown-designed interiors of Contests today are stunning and hard to match. The engineering, access to usable stowage, details and finish on the 50CS is first class and to get this level of quality at this size is special.

Both Contest and X-Yachts are early adopters of hybrid power, offering their bluewater cruisers with optional electric drives. For the XC 47 this was designed-in from the start to offer Oceanvolt’s award-winning new 25kW regenerative drive.

The XC 47 is another wonderfully engineered and thought out yacht for distance cruising, in particular for those who also enjoy hands-on helming pleasure. That should come as no surprise to any X aficionados, but what really struck me most about this yacht was the stowage, and the forethought needed to create that, together with how practical it has been made.

That may sound slightly anticlimactic but ask any long-term cruiser and stowage is always a priority. On deck, this constitutes a huge lazarette and sail locker, plus clever systems for launching a dinghy via davits and a liferaft canister, while below decks every square inch of space has been used effectively, with lockers hinged with gas struts.

It’s clear the Danish yard went to considerable time and effort, even building a full mock up of the interior that could be canted 20° each way.

If the deck saloon style looks didn’t sell this model to all – this is the first full non-Jeppesen designed X – the jury were converted once they’d taken the helm. ‘Quirky’ became ‘muscular and bold’. The ease with which it can be sailed from the cockpit was also appreciated.

While I understand many offshore cruisers like a protected centre cockpit and more sun protection, the attention to detail, stowage and practicalities, combined with the direct steering, motion and enjoyable sailing this X offers make it a standout new offering.

Jeanneau Yachts 55

Meanwhile the Jeanneau Yachts 55 stands out for different, unique reasons in this category, offering a completely new concept in comfort on deck while at anchor and a novel accommodation layout. Its focus is on outdoor living space.

What helps place this in a luxury bracket is not simply the price or the creative input of superyacht specialist design duo Philppe Briand and Andrew Winch, rather that its layout creates a palatial amount of private space for the owner’s suite. Guest cabins have their own direct access from the extensive cockpit via gullwing doors.

It certainly makes sense for solo owners or couples using it as a warm water apartment. How many people this will suit is another question, as it segregates any guests, crew or children from the galley and saloon.

I used the term monocat when I first viewed it, as the 55 really does attempt to mix the two worlds, particularly in terms of providing owner privacy and lounging space. Choose the rigid hard top and windshield and there’s a vast amount of covered area including a dinette and chart table – plus a bimini can shade all that extensive aft deck too.

The penalty comes in additional weight and wetted surface, and is felt in the handling and performance, the latter particularly in lighter breeze with the optional in-mast furling, self tacking headsail and shallow draught package we had. However, it’s set up to be easily managed from the mid cockpit with good visibility from the twin helms and easy circulation thanks to the ramped side decks. Full report in YW February 2024.

Best luxury yacht 2023

Best luxury yacht winner – oyster 495.

It is hard to imagine that the decor of a yacht can change its look and feel quite this much, yet the layout of this second 495, Eddie Jordan’s dramatic looking Tuga , is in fact identical to the first boat that I spent several days aboard last summer.

At its heart is a wonderfully (Humphreys) designed and engineered luxury bluewater cruiser conceived from the ground up, built in a new dedicated facility to a repeatable quality very few yards are capable of.

The 495 offers consistent passage making speeds in real voluminous comfort – whether enjoyed from the deep cockpit or the best-in-class aft cabin. Deck stowage and mechanical space is also superb.

Then factor in the family appeal of Oyster’s after sales and world rally programme and you start to appreciate the premium world this sub 50-footer gives access to.

The first yacht fully conceived under CEO Richard Hadida’s reign, this is also the smallest completely new Oyster 495 since 2005 – and it’s a triumph. It was our September 2022 cover star in which we featured the full review from our Oyster 495 three day test .

Beneteau Oceanis Yacht 60

The Oceanis Yacht 60 is a very different beast indeed to the 62 it replaces as flagship for the Beneteau range. The yard has learned plenty from the success of the First 53/OY 54 and wanted to create a 60 in this style and with the same deck layout (albeit larger and wider) and ease of circulation.

The construction experience of the smaller model clearly helped too, as this is a whopping five tonnes lighter than the bulky OY62 and with a deeper (2.6m) keel. The telling result is on the water. It feels sporty to helm and we averaged a knot slower than the single figure 6-8 knot windspeeds upwind and matched them reaching with Code 0 and a slight swell.

The vast cockpit works well, sheltered below the semi rigid bimini, it has plentiful lounging space with sailing systems led aft to the twin helms. The interior sees a 3+3 layout, where Beneteau wanted to get rid of the corridor effect of the OY62. The galley is forward to help open out space, while the forward suite with offset berth and headboard aft works well to give space with privacy.

This is an attractive, voluminous yacht that leaves a good overall impression whether under sail, on or below decks.

Ice 62 Targa

It all looks pretty funky below decks on the Ice 62 Targa too, especially if you’re watching the masthead fore and aft cameras (plus bow and prop cam) on central displays mounted in the saloon while you slip out of the dock! The Ice is a seriously impressive, contemporary yacht, one that in looks, performance and execution, won over many of the judges.

The first to launch is a highly customised project for a passionate sailing owner who covers long distances solo – he’d already sailed it 3,000 miles around the Med that autumn. It’s impressively stiff, sails handsomely and, thanks to a telescopic keel, points well. We matched single figure windspeeds, and clocked up to the high 9s in 12 knots wind.

Umberto Felci’s team spent 4,000 hours on the design, providing lots of space and light to the interior and a chillout zone in the semi raised saloon. This was easily the coolest looking yacht, with its aggressive reverse bow, chamfered gunwales and carbon T-top bimini, and all engineered and built to a high standard.

Best Trawler Yacht Brands for Bluewater Adventures

16th nov 2023 by samantha wilson.

Rightboat logo

The rise of the trawler yacht is one of the most exciting developments in the boating industry in decades. It has opened the world of long-range travel to those who don’t care to sail and whose budget doesn’t run to a superyacht or explorer yacht. It has actually filled a gap that we didn’t even realize we desperately needed. Imagine being able to cruise the world in comfort on a yacht under 60 feet, or even under 40 feet. Or being able to cruise across blue water, with several guests staying aboard, to far-flung destinations on a yacht the size of a cabin cruiser.

Trawler yachts are almost an oxymoron—the idea of a sturdy and functional fishing trawler being a luxury yacht would once have been laughable. But today that’s exactly what these robust, spacious, and elegant long-range cruisers are. Here we take a look at our pick of some of the best trawler yacht brands on the market;

The Jeanneau 54 is a new yacht model that enters the Jeanneau Yachts luxury sailboat range, on the same level as the Jeanneau Yachts 64. This new model is largely inspired by its predecessor, the Jeanneau 53. The same quality-price ratio is maintained, you can find this model from 440 000€.

This sailing yacht is characterized by a powerful hull and better performance than her sistership of similar size. In addition, she has a sleeker design compared to previous models. Moreover, she offers a cockpit twice as spacious as other models of comparable size on the market. It is divided into several areas: navigation, relaxation, and maneuvering areas. Furthermore, this new yacht is equipped with a rear platform called ‘the terrace’ whose design has been patented by the manufacturer. This one has the particularity of being larger.

The Jeanneau 54 is designed to meet the requirements of customers. She is available in several versions with various levels of customization: 2-cabin, 3-cabin, 4-cabin and even 5-cabin versions. According to the shipyard, the Jeanneau 54 is mainly designed for customers in Northern Europe.

Best cruising yacht under 15m : Oceanis 46.1

luxury yachts under 50 feet

The Oceanis 46.1 is a monohull cruising yacht manufactured in France by Bénéteau since 2018. Its length is 13.65 m and its draft measures 2.65 m. In terms of design, the Oceanis 46.1 was largely inspired by the 51.1, but is distinguished by the combination of elegance and power. She also has the famous stepped hull of the 51.1, characterized by its wider shape, offering a larger interior. As for the deck, it adopts an architectural shape with a more spacious cockpit compared to the same size models found on the market. The large table inside the cockpit can accommodate up to 8 people. It cleverly houses the BIB. Also, the Oceanis 46.1 is distinguished by its winches grouped at the helm station, which facilitate maneuvering and create a beautiful space for relaxation at the same time.

The new yacht is designed for fast cruising enthusiasts, as it offers great speed and guaranteed sensations.

Best performance: The sailing monohull Dehler 30 One Design

luxury yachts under 50 feet

Unveiled in Cannes, the Dehler 30 One Design from Hanse Yacht shipyard is a monohull with ultra-modern designs. It is presented as a boat dedicated to offshore racing with minimum crew. It is characterized by its carbon mast set back and also by the presence of an intermediate stay between the masthead and the spreader.

The cockpit is designed so that the crew can work in comfort and freedom. It is equipped with a soft non-slip surface and a long central footrest. Also of note is a dedicated survival storage compartment.

Among the novelties of the Dehler 30 One Design, note that it has an outrigger that serves to spread the asymmetrical spinnaker pull point. This provides an additional maneuver to adjust the spinnaker draft point. The setting and removal of this adjustment is not complicated during a race.

Bavaria cruiser 46, the most popular for rental

luxury yachts under 50 feet

The Bavaria cruiser 46 is a cruising monohull designed in Germany by Bavaria Yachts since 2004. It measures 13.60 m and has a draft of 2.10 m. It was voted European Yacht of the Year 2015. The yacht is distinguished by its wider swim platform, extending over 80% of the width of the transom. In addition, its spacious cockpit, almost straight bow and whistle roof allow it to adopt a more elegant, distinguished design and away from the ultra-sporty look.

In addition, the Bavaria Cruiser 46 has quality rigging and fittings with Lewmar winches and Spinlock blockers on the roof. These elements allow two people to easily steer the boat. As for the interior, this model has a modular navigation area consisting of a cockpit table. This is equipped with a tray that resembles a desk for the storage of instruments, charts or electrical panel.

The fastest monohull sailing vessel Swan 54

luxury yachts under 50 feet

Swan 54 is a sailboat manufactured by Nautor’s Swan shipyard since 2016. It is 16.48 m long and has a draft of 3.7 m. This model is so large that it can accommodate up to 10 people. Because of its high speed, it is a favorite among ocean racing enthusiasts as well as those who enjoy cruising with family and friends.

The sailboat’s deck plan is designed to ensure comfortable sailing with a minimum of crew. At the same time, it offers a more spacious area for everyone to enjoy life on board. Offering direct access to the sea thanks to a transom that opens entirely onto a large bathing platform and she is equipped with four electric winches in the cockpit, which allows the crew to easily steer the boat.

Boat Test: 2023 Cruisers Yachts 50 GLS

  • By Chris Caldwell
  • August 22, 2023

Cruisers Yachts 50 GLS running

After a day on the water testing the new Cruisers Yachts 50 GLS, I realized why it seemed so familiar. It reminded me of the Porsche 356 coupe I owned decades ago. It was fast, it was fun, it was comfortable, and everyone looked when I blew past. I loved that car dearly and still regret selling it.

GLS stands for Grand Luxury Sport and, as the flagship of the “adventuring” GLS series of Cruisers Yachts boats, the 50 is all that and more. This yacht is about fun and entertaining on the water. Once you get past using the words “Cruisers” and “ outboards ” in the same sentence, this is a quite spectacular yacht.

Cruisers Yachts 50 GLS beached

Cruisers calls the 50 GLS “the ultimate dayboat,” which is accurate in one sense, but limiting in another. The 50 is great for entertaining a boatload of friends, but also doubles as a surprisingly luxe overnighter, with two staterooms and a spacious head with a separate stall shower.

For starters, the cockpit is spacious, and even more so when the sides butterfly down to a 21-foot beam, leaving the aft seating in an island of comfort with its own table. The transom grill (or optional two grills) is convenient to the cockpit and allows the chef to surreptitiously dispose of charred burgers overboard.

Set well behind the chef is a whacking-great trio of 600 hp Mercs that push this 19 tons of comfortableness to just shy of 50 knots (56 mph) with more than enough punch to yank skiers and tow toys right out of the water when you put the hammer down.

Interior and Accessories

Three separate seating areas dot the cockpit, with more than enough room to move about without banging knees, and then there is the bow seating. Press a button and the windshield slides open (no lifting required), offering a deep walkway (safe for all ages) to reach the trio of adjustable sun lounges (with armrests) on the cabin top. You won’t want to walk 15 feet to the twin Isotherm fridges in the aft cockpit, so a cooler is tucked under a seat with a chiller plate (no ice).

Cruisers Yachts 50 GLS helm

Cruisers Yachts, now owned by MarineMax, created a good-looking yacht, from the black slash on the topsides that conceals the windows to the sleek hardtop that presents you with choices. Want sun and breeze? Open the sunroof and walkway door, plus lower the electric side windows. Hiding from the sun? A 9-foot MakeFast awning grows from the top to shade the aft cockpit.

The helm features a trio of 19-inch Simrad monitors (including CZone digital switching), a joystick linked to the Side-Power bow thruster, and a fully adjustable helm seat next to a double companion seat.

Cruisers Yachts 50 GLS salon TV

Step below and the bright cabin is surprising, with 6 feet, 8 inches of headroom and a queen-size berth forward behind French doors. A mini galley holds a microwave for morning coffee and croissants, and an Isotherm fridge augments the two in the cockpit galley. The enclosed head is most civilized, with a Lucite-doored stall shower more than 4 feet wide.

A second cabin is tucked under the cockpit, with a pair of berths that convert to a queen berth—perfect for kid naps or guests, although it won’t encourage them to linger. Each cabin has 32-inch TVs, and a 55-inch TV pops up behind the cockpit galley.

Cruisers Yachts 50 GLS berth

Before the 50 GLS was dropped into the water, I had a chance to examine the Donald L. Blount-designed hull with two full-length strakes and wide chine flats that threw the spray far to the side underway. It’s clear that Blount’s performance-boat background provided us with a soft ride through 2- to 3-foot seas, but more importantly, the 50 GLS begs you to exercise your secret Mr. Toad. Crank the wheel, and the twin-propped Merc V-12s bite like a Rottweiler. The 50 just grins, banks comfortably, and asks for more dog treats, please. Even Aunt Edna is going to love this ride.

And while you’d think that 36 cylinders hanging on the transom should make muscle-car noises, well, they don’t. At idle, we registered just 58 dB(A) on the decibel meter, and with the throttles down flat, we were at 85 dB(A), which OSHA says equates to the sound of a vacuum cleaner. There’s no “I didn’t hear you” excuse on the 50 GLS.

Hanging those outboards on the stern also opened immense undercockpit space, which had a Kohler 15 kW genset on our test boat (for keeping those blenders mixing margaritas and the AC going at the sandbar), plus a Seakeeper 6 gyrostabilizer. There was also ample storage for boat gear, from fenders to inflatable toys.

Cruisers Yachts 50 GLS cockpit seating

The speed chart tells part of the story (56.6 mph), but not the real-life part. Think in terms of Lauderdale to Bimini in 60 minutes, Long Beach to Catalina in a half-hour, and the same from Cape Cod to Nantucket. Even better, this isn’t a pounding ride, but a comfortably luxurious adventure.

Shopping? Another $1 million gets you a Formula 500 SSC with four Merc 600s ($3,537,110), plus another 10 mph at wide-open throttle. Do compare and run both boats.

The Cruisers 50 GLS checks all the boxes. It is a bowrider on steroids, an express cruiser with entertaining ambitions, an overnighter in comfort, and a performance boat.

Like my long-gone Porsche, the 50 GLS is a classic for our own times, and one that should bring you as much fun as my little silver four-banger.

Breaking news, luxe 90-foot yacht features secret bar, ‘innovative’ sun deck and even a driving range.

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

You’re not gonna need a bigger boat.

There’s a new, lavish yacht set to cruise the ocean equipped with more bells and whistles than most would know what to do with — including access to a seaside driving range.

It can be yours for a modest starting price of $5.12 million.

A breathtaking new yacht is hitting the water soon.

The Austrian-made Ladenstein 88 yacht is an enormous and elegant craft measuring nearly 100 feet in “innovative” length.

The sleek, silver wave surfer comes with ample space for those onboard to enjoy superior amenities like its own jacuzzi and hibachi-like Teppanyaki bar for cooking.

There are several al fresco dining areas on board.

No need to fear too many cooks in the kitchen as there’s plenty of dining space, plus comfortable seating on its multiple decks.

That includes a stern side “sea-level beach club” area, a spacious rain shower and an abundance of sleek furniture.

Other configurations can turn its lower deck into a garage room for Jet Skis and other crafts or “space for an optional sauna, gym equipment or water sports toys.”

However, the company boasts that the real fun is in several James Bond-esque features.

A touch of a magic button will transform the yacht’s upper bow side lounge — there are four separate outdoor areas totaling about 700 square feet — into a “sports area” where a driving range can be situated.

One deck area of the ship can be fitted as a driving range.

It appears you would be swinging out into the water from the 21-square-foot elevated area.

That area also has an “integrated” treadmill ready for use and another exterior that can be a “versatile space for yoga.”

Other button presses reveal a well-stocked, hidden bar and rotating television on the inside, according to Robb Report .

A TV and bar area are hidden and can be revealed by pushing a sole button.

The three to five interior staterooms are a dealer’s choice situation as far as design goes.

Still, Ladenstein suggests a few chic looks with themes like a posh Italian format, a Gotham-enthused New York look and even a “Godfather” noir get-up, among others.

“Every Ladenstein 88 will become a unique piece that reflects the owner’s lifestyle and values,” said CEO Markus Ladenstein.

A breathtaking new yacht is hitting the water soon.
