Hannah Ferrier: Where is The Below Deck Star Now?

Pooja Sharma of Hannah Ferrier: Where is The Below Deck Star Now?

By replacing the conventional crew and setting off atop a 150-foot-plus superyacht during the charter season in exotic locations, the cast of ‘Below Deck Mediterranean’ goes through a number of challenges and adventures. The spin-off of ‘Below Deck’ has been running for more than seven seasons and has accrued a wide audience.

Among the cast and crew, Hannah Ferrier, one of the original cast members of the reality TV show, garnered quite a fan following in her time as the main cast. However, fans have wondered about Hannah’s current whereabouts after getting fired from the show in season 5.

Hannah Ferrier’s Below Deck Mediterranean Journey

A member of the original cast and crew, Hannah Ferrier joined ‘Below Deck Mediterranean’ in 2016 as a chief stewardess. However, when Captain Sandy Yawn replaced Captain Mark Howard in season 2 of ‘Below Deck Mediterranean,’ things quickly turned sour between her and Hannah. While the two managed to navigate their odds in season 2 and brave the storm during the charter season, issues still loomed within.

In season 3, the altercation between Sandy and Hannah became more apparent when Hannah’s anxiety led to her not working and creating issues between the two. Even in season 4, Captain Sandy said she wasn’t thrilled with the interior crew for their lack of passion for the work. However, it was season 5 when things came full circle. When co-star bosun Malia White found Hannah’s valium and vape pen without any prescription aboard the yacht, things changed for Hannah.

Chief Sandy Yawn decided to fire Hannah for carrying valium and a vape pen without a prescription, thereby violating maritime laws. After Hannah left the show, fans and viewers were enraged over Captain Sandy’s harsh decision. When countless fans came to Hannah’s defense, Captain Sandy simply stated that she could not risk her license over the crew’s mistake and, as such, had to fire Hannah. Since her exit from the show in 2020, fans have wondered what Hannah has been upto.

Hannah Ferrier is Still a Television Personality and a Podcaster

After the unpredictable exit of Hannah from ‘Below Deck Mediterranean’, things began to change for the reality TV star rapidly. She soon announced her pregnancy and welcomed her daughter with her boyfriend, Josh Roberts, months after leaving the show. Not just this, she finally tied the knot with her daughter’s father and boyfriend in 2022 in a quaint ceremony in Australia.

At 36, the Australian native is now working on yet another show called ‘The Love Boat Australia’. The filming premiered in October last year and featured a group of singles looking for love, with Hannah Ferrier playing the cruise director. Admitting that she’s glad to finally be treated as real talent, Hannah has disclosed that her treatment in ‘Below Deck Mediterranean’ was unprompted and that she didn’t need to be fired.

Even Captain Sandy Yawn has reportedly admitted after finishing the filming of the latest season that Hannah’s skills and talent remain unmatched. As such, the former Bravo TV personality is now accruing rising fame from several sources.

In addition to reappearing on TV, Hannah also hosts a podcast called ‘Dear Reality, You’re Effed!”. The weekly podcast features Hannah discussing the mundane issues of life that people often overlook. From inviting guests like Captain Jason to even going on record with Dr. Nicole Martin, a star on the ‘Real Housewives of Miami’, Hannah continues to eclipse the one-dimensional image attached to her character ever since leaving ‘Below Deck Mediterranean’

And even though it’s been three years since she left the super-yacht reality show, her vested interests in cruise and allied activities still continue. As a budding online personality and influencer, Hannah Ferrier continues to share snippets of her latest vacations and cruises. As such, even though Ferrier had to overcome several personal issues, she continues to dazzle everyone with photos of her family and latest ventures.

What You Didn't Know About Hannah Ferrier From Below Deck

Hannah Ferrier smirking

When it comes to the hit Bravo reality show, " Below Deck Mediterranean ," no one stood out quite like former chief stewardess Hannah Ferrier. The show follows the lives of members of a crew who live and work aboard a mega-yacht and sometimes deal with difficult guests and co-workers — and this Australia native had been part of the "Below Deck" spinoff since its premiere in 2016 until her departure in 2020. While being on a mega-yacht on the Mediterranean Sea may sound like a glamorous job, Hannah's role as chief stew wasn't easy. According to Work On A Yacht , chief stew's are "responsible for the interior of the vessel and for providing superior hospitality service to meet the owner's and guests' expectations."

Hannah handled that and much more thanks to the ever-present drama with some of her castmates. However, she made headlines when she left the show  after being fired by Captain Sandy (more on that later). "Honestly, it's so sad to me because it's five years of my life that I dedicated to this show," Hannah told The Daily Dish . "It changed and grew so much since Season 1 in Greece. ...I'm just really sad that it's ended that way." Yet, the reality star has no regrets, explaining, "I feel like if you're regretting something, then you're probably not learning from it."

Clearly, Hannah Ferrier is usually very open about her life, but there may be some things fans don't know about the former "Below Deck Med" star. Let's dive in.

Hannah Ferrier would sometimes break the fourth wall on TV

Hannah Ferrier may be a well-known reality star, but that doesn't mean she got used to having a TV crew or cameras follow her around as part of her everyday life. "On 'Below Deck,' they're very, very, very strict with the fourth wall," she dished to In Touch . "So even for myself, I've filmed five seasons of it, the camera crew, audio and everything like that, they won't interact. They won't say hello to me."

However, the chief stew revealed that sometimes she couldn't help herself when it came to breaking that fourth wall. As she once recalled on her " Dear Diary, You're Effed! " podcast, "I had one camera guy that was on every single season with me. And basically, he would wear this ridiculous pair of birthday board shorts once a year on his birthday. So he would be filming me, and I would be like shaking a cocktail, going like, 'Happy birthday to ya!'" She added, "You just know there's a producer in the control room going like, 'Hannah! Fourth wall!'"

The former "Below Deck Med" star also believes that shooting the series is harder than most other reality shows. "If you think about other Bravo shows, they film in a massive mansion or big restaurants or on the beach. And we're in these tiny confined spaces. And they have very big equipment," she explained to In Touch. "So it makes it difficult like that." It's clear that making reality TV isn't as easy as it looks!

She wanted to leave Below Deck Med, but could've done without the drama

Hannah Ferrier's departure from "Below Deck Mediterranean" in 2020 came with its fair share of drama. The Bravo star was fired by her boss, Captain Sandy Yawn, for failing to declare her Valium and a CBD pen on the luxury mega-yacht, which was a part of protocol. Yet, Hannah believed the firing was unfair, since it was over prescription medication.

"It was really upsetting at the time, especially after being on the show for so many years, and knowing that it wasn't a hidden fact that I suffered from anxiety and had anti-anxiety medication," she explained to Peninsula Living Pittwater . Noting that she wasn't "trying to be sneaky," Hannah revealed that she took issue with the "stigma" now associated with her since her firing was due to prescription drugs: "Anxiety medication is for a mental illness, so it shouldn't be painted like, 'You're a drug addict smuggling drugs on board.'"

While Hannah continued to speak out over the matter in the press, including an interview with  Decider , she also revealed ahead of Season 5 that she was ready to leave the show anyway. "I think I'm probably done," she admitted to  ET . Referring to the profession as "young people's game," Hannah added, "I don't want to get to the stage where I'm locked into yachting and there's nothing else in my life except that."

Inside Hannah Ferrier's beef with fellow chief stew Kate Chastain

Hannah Ferrier is no longer friends with her former pal and fellow chief stew, "Below Deck's" Kate Chastain, after they apparently had a falling out  sometime in 2019. While speaking with The Daily Dish that October, Kate shed some light on what allegedly went down to cause the rift. "A lot of people that work with Hannah also work with me, and people tell me things that are said," she said. "And so, at this point, it's just like I don't really want to be friends with somebody that said bad things about me."

As for Hannah, she opened up about the matter on the " Side Piece with Melissa Pfeister " podcast in 2021. Noting that "dragging people in press" isn't her "style," she claimed of the feud, "That was basically just like a situation with my friends, where I kind of called her out on, and I don't think she liked getting called out."

For her part, Kate previously took aim at Hannah following her "Below Deck Med" firing in 2020, dishing on " Another Below Deck Podcast " that she believes she would have been able to keep her job "if Hannah was a fantastic chief stew, hard-working, good team player." Kate claimed, "Even when she was sober, she still wasn't that good at her job. She wasn't good for morale." With comments like that, it's clear that friendship is definitely over.

She's still feuding with Captain Sandy, but has the support of others

At the time of this writing, Hannah Ferrier is still locked in a feud with  Captain Sandy Yawn  — her former boss who fired her during Season 5 of "Below Deck Mediterranean." On " Side Piece with Melissa Pfeister ," Hannah dished that she thought Captain Sandy had it out for her, saying, "There was some weird competitive thing she had going on with me, which was kind of silly, because it's not two positions that should be competing. ... I think she was competitive with me on the TV side of things." As Hannah noted on " The Real House Husbands " podcast, "I felt like she was very much trying to find fault with what I was doing."

As for Captain Sandy, she's had her own things to say about Hannah. "I fired Hannah because I don't trust her as a crew member," she told Showbiz CheatSheet , adding, "I'm a captain and she waits tables. ... I think that's the part that I think really disturbs her, is her ego."

Yet, not everyone is on board with Captain Sandy's assertion. While Season 1 stewardess Julia d'Albert-Pusey called Hannah "amazing" and "hard working" on  Twitter , fellow chief stew Bugsy Drake told Us Weekly that the job "goes above and beyond ... just waiting tables." Even Hannah's replacement, Katie Flood, gushed to Decider how Hannah "was really kind" and "reached out," adding, "She just said congratulations and that she's here if I need to talk to her about anything."

Hannah Ferrier's fiance is 'very private'

While Hannah Ferrier used to live her life on camera, her fiancé, Josh Roberts, is the opposite in that he's very private. So much so that Hannah didn't include him in her  social media pregnancy announcement , and they didn't even become Instagram official until over a month after their November 2020  engagement . So, the Bravo star shocked her fans in January 2021, when she posted a photo of him, writing, "Okkkkkk. Here he is. Insta official." Hannah has since shared more pics  of Josh, especially when it comes to gushing about their " little family ."

As for the reason behind all the secrecy? Hannah told Bravo Insider (via The Daily Dish ), "He's very private, he hates social media, so, that's definitely something that I respect. He's just very low key." Yet, Hannah shared during the "Below Deck Med" Season 5 premiere that it was "definitely the first relationship that I actually see some longevity and potentially getting married and making babies and having a family."

Hannah also revealed on "Watch What Happens Live" that she had met Josh after filming Season 4, while at a bar in Sydney. She gushed, "We kind of both flirted with each other, but I did let him know I just finished filming, so I was at 50 percent of my normal capability. So I'm surprised that alone didn't scare him off." Not only did Hannah not scare Josh off, but she made him a father. After sharing her pregnancy news in June 2020, Hannah told The Daily Dish , "He's over the moon. He's so excited."

This Below Deck Med alum is 'living that best mum life'

Fans of "Below Deck Mediterranean" were used to seeing Hannah Ferrier take care of a mega-yacht, but these days, she's happily taking care of a baby instead. The former reality star welcomed daughter Ava Grace in October 2020. She announced her birth on Instagram , gushing in the caption, "Josh and I are so happy to welcome to the world our little girl, Ava Grace Roberts ... She is already a little menace that has captured our hearts forever."

It seems that Hannah has really taken to being a mother, telling Who , "I'm loving it. We're at the three-month mark now, so she's settled into her little routine. It was a big change to life as I knew it but it's amazing." Hannah even frequently takes to her Instagram to gush about how she's "living that best mum life." In another photo with Ava Grace, the new mom wrote, "We walk, we sing, we dance and we smile — life is good."

However, Hannah did share that motherhood does come with its challenges. "Those first few weeks are a bit questionable. I was like, 'This is not what it looks like in the movies, let me tell you.' But, it's good now," she told Who, adding, "So many people every day tell you, 'You've got to appreciate every moment — it goes so quickly!' And it's stressing me out, because I'm like, 'Oh gosh, I'm not enjoying this second, I'm doing it wrong!'" It seems to us like Hannah Ferrier is doing just fine.

She loved being pregnant, but isn't sure about baby No. 2

While Hannah Ferrier loves being a mom, it doesn't necessarily mean she's ready to go through pregnancy again or that she even wants another baby — and it's something that she and her fiancé, Josh Roberts, don't seem to be agreeing on. In May 2021, Hannah told Us Weekly , "Josh has [thought of baby No. 2], but I'm on the fence still." She then explained why she's hesitant, saying, "I think I still have PTSD. I had a really traumatic labor. So, I don't know." Yet, the "Below Deck Mediterranean" alum did add that she could change her mind in six months.

Although Hannah had a difficult labor, the Bravo star did really love being pregnant. In July 2020, she wrote in the caption of an Instagram photo showing off her baby bump, "I always thought people were crazy when they said they enjoyed being pregnant but I totally get it now!! I am absolutely loving everything about it!!" She continued, "From the changes in my body, to the closeness in my relationship, to feeling kicks and movement and I'm especially loving falling head over heels in love."

Hannah even joked in another caption about how she missed her baby bump post-pregnancy, writing , "Did anyone else spend the last month complaining about their bump and then really miss it when it disappeared??" It seems only time will tell if Hannah will eventually give her daughter, Ava Grace, a sibling!

Hannah Ferrier has clapped back at online trolls

As a reality TV star, Hannah Ferrier gets a lot of online hate, but the former "Below Deck Mediterranean" chief stew isn't afraid to shut down the trolls and fans who share unwanted life advice — including how to raise her own daughter. Us Weekly reports that someone once wrote in the comments of one of her  Instagram posts , "I hope that you will choose to retire from your yachting career and commit to raising your child personally, becoming a full-time mother to your child." Hannah didn't take it lightly and responded with, "Just because I retire from yachting doesn't mean I will be a full-time mother ... having a happy and fulfilled mother is a lot better for the child than having a mother who's around 24/7."

That wasn't the first time Hannah had to defend her parenting. She revealed to the outlet, "I actually put something up on my stories the other day and I was like, 'Look, this isn't to be rude. Thank you very much for all the advice, but I don't take my parenting advice off strangers on the internet.'"

Unfortunately, Hannah also had to clap back at those who criticized her appearance and accused her of getting plastic surgery after she posted a selfie  in July 2021. "How f**ked is it?!?!" she wrote in the comments (via Page Six ). "I've put on weight due to a baby and an injury that occurred during birth and now I'm disgusting and have had so much work done!!!!" The message is clear, don't come at Hannah Ferrier on Instagram!

This chief stew started her own online yacht training academy

Hannah Ferrier may no longer be chief stew on "Below Deck Mediterranean," but she's still working in the yachting business with her online training course,  Ocean International Training Academy . In fact, it was her time on the show that inspired her business venture, since fans always asked her about how to get into yachting. She told  The Daily Dish  in 2020, "I found that there was this gap in the market because ... it's like, how do you know that yachting is right for you in the first place? And that's where Ocean International comes in." Ferrier continued, "It's like the street smarts of yachting. So it really breaks it down for you, what the industry is actually like, what you can do at home before you even leave to go and join yachting. ... It gets down to the nitty-gritty of yachting."

Hannah is even partnering with Season 4 stew and chef, Anastasia Surmava. The former explained, "We complement each other very well in terms of the business side and what we're good at."

But then there's another "Below Deck" alum, EJ Jensen, who has accused Hannah of ripping off his yachting school. "She has literally word for word copied my Yacht University course and made it kind of her own," he claimed on the " Behind the Velvet Rope " podcast. Hannah responded to the allegations,  tweeting , "I love that anyone would think someone with a newborn has time to be that calculated!!! I'm literally just trying to keep everyone alive right now lol."

The reality star stays connected with fans through her podcast

In addition to Hannah Ferrier's new training academy, the new mom started her own podcast with her friend, Australian red carpet reporter Justin Hill, called " Dear Diary, You're Effed! " Hannah summed up what it's about to The Daily Dish  in 2020, saying, "Basically every week, we just go in and we read a diary entry and very much make fun of 13-year-old Hannah. There's a lot of very serious podcasts out there; this is not that. It's like escapism. It's reality TV in a podcast."

The "Below Deck Mediterranean" alum dished how she got the idea for it, writing on her Instagram , "I started this podcast as a way to keep in touch with you guys now that I'm home and 'knocked up.' When I was moving house a few months ago I stumbled across my old diaries from when I was a teenager and couldn't believe my eyes! I was the same but worse!!"

Hannah wants the podcast to be interactive, where fans give her feedback, as well as share their own diary stories. As mentioned in her Instagram post, the podcast is a way for Hannah to keep a relationship with her fans now that she's no longer on Bravo. She explained, "One of my saddest things with leaving the show was losing touch with fans. It's a weird relationship. It's online, but some of these people I've been chatting to for five years."

Hannah Ferrier is worth more than you'd think

It appears that "Below Deck Mediterranean" has made quite the impact on Hannah Ferrier's bank account, in that her job on the mega-yacht paid well and her time on Bravo made her somewhat of an influencer. From just her job as chief stew alone, Crew Finders reports that she could have made an annual salary anywhere from $54,000 to $84,000, depending on the size of the yacht. That's not counting her tips, which, according to Decider , averages to about $12,790 per season. But most of Ferrier's money from the series came from her actual job , since production reportedly "only pa[id] the cast a small appearance fee," per Pootonopedia .

With all that said, various outlets report that Hannah has an estimated net worth of around $600,000 , yet that number could be much higher depending on the success of her latest ventures, the  Ocean International Training Academy and her " Dear Diary, You're Effed! " podcast. The former reality star also makes money through sponsored posts — for brands like for Natural Cycles and BondiBoost , to name just a couple — on her Instagram account, which boasts over 714,000 followers. As for other perks of the yachting job? Hannah tweeted  in January 2021, "It's good pay. Chief stew is around €5000 per month with no expenses! So no rent or bills!"

Fans may know Hannah Ferrier best as a former chief stew on "Below Deck Mediterranean," but it seems she's having no problem continuing her success and enjoying life off-camera. And who doesn't love to see that?

Hannah Ferrier's Life After Below Deck Med Includes a Baby and the Birth of TWO New Businesses

Find out what's on the horizon for the chief stew following her Season 5 dismissal.

Hannah Ferrier has officially left The Wellington crew , and it's definitely not how she thought her fifth season of Below Deck Mediterranean would end.

How to Watch

Watch Below Deck Mediterranean  on Peacock  and the Bravo app .

"Honestly, it's so sad to me because it's five years of my life that I dedicated to this show. It changed and grew so much since Season 1 in Greece. I think just above anything I'm just really sad that it's ended that way," Hannah said in an interview with The Daily Dish over the phone just hours before the episode featuring her dismissal aired. "Obviously, it's just not a very nice way to end. But at the same time, I've had an outpouring of support from fans and things like that."

Hannah was dismissed in the August 17 episode of Below Deck Med when Captain Sandy Yawn did not feel comfortable taking the chief stew to sea after it was brought to her attention that she had unregistered Valium and a vape pen on board the vessel. But looking back on her entire journey on Below Deck Med , Hannah said that her dismissal is just another case of yachting bringing on "the highest of highs and the lowest of lows."

"I'm not a big believer in regret because I feel like if you're regretting something, then you're probably not learning from it. And I'm not really sure what the lesson is in this particular case," Hannah told The Daily Dish . "I'm honestly leaving very proud of myself. My family and my friends are proud of me and what I achieved."

Hannah is now getting ready to add a new title to her CV: mom. She announced in June that she and her boyfriend, Josh , are expecting their first child in late October.

Just last week, Hannah shared even more happy news, that she and Josh would be welcoming a little girl . "I was obviously gonna be thrilled to have a boy or a girl, but I think there's something special when it's your firstborn and it's a little girl, apart from your credit card bill because you buy everything ," Hannah shared. "It's really nice. We're very excited."

Though she dealt with "awful morning sickness" during her first trimester, Hannah said that she "was feeling fantastic" in her second trimester. Unfortunately, the final months of her pregnancy have brought a lot of discomfort once again for Hannah. "Now I am completely exhausted, so emotional, I'm not sleeping well because I'm really uncomfortable," she said. "All the wheels are in motion, so there's no going back, so I'm just kind of pushing through at the moment."

Still, Hannah couldn't be more ready to bring home baby. "I'm so excited. I'm so ready," Hannah gushed, adding that she can't wait to give her little girl "kisses and raspberries." "I'm looking forward to weird things like that. I absolutely cannot wait to meet her. A lot of people are like, 'Oh, I'm excited, but I'm also a little scared and nervous.' I don't have any of that. I just want her here already."

Hannah noted that her boyfriend seems to be "a little more nervous" than she is about becoming a parent for the first time. "He hasn't been around kids as much as I have as I grew up in my mom's childcare centers," she said.

However, Hannah said that Josh is still "so excited" to become a dad and has been hard at work prepping for their daughter's arrival. "We went down at my dad's place in the country for the weekend, and I walked in and he was asleep in front of the fire with Save Our Sleep , which is a parenting book, on his chest," Hannah recalled. "[It's] just like the cutest thing in the world that he's reading a sleeping book but fell asleep while reading it."

Josh also plans on taking two weeks off from his job in commercial real estate after his daughter is born. "I kind of said to Mom and Dad, 'You can come and visit, but no overnights until he's back to work,'" Hannah said. "I think it'll be just so nice for two weeks to have a little bubble with the three of us and our dog."

Hannah spent some time relaxing at home in Australia after this season of Below Deck Med before going on vacation in New Zealand with one of her best friends from her days in yachting in the South of France. But she soon got to thinking about her next chapter. "It's kind of nice when you absolutely know 100 percent that you're not going to do another season because it really pushes you to work out what you want to do then," Hannah explained. "So I think that's what's been happening for me this year."

Hannah Ferrier Says Her Below Deck Med Departure Was "Really, Really Disappointing"

It was when Hannah was making another move, out of her house and into a new home with Josh in Sydney that the lightbulb went off for her next project.

"Basically, I was moving house, and I found a bunch of my old diaries from when I was a teenager. Myself and the girls were just laughing so hard because you can really see my personality in this 12 or 13-year-old girl's diary," Hannah said. "It kind of came to me that it's very interesting that our personalities, et cetera, are already so developed at that age. To be honest with you, I found that literally — not so much now with Josh, but a few years ago — I was having the same issues with men that I was having with the boys in high school when I was 13."

So Hannah teamed up with her good friend and Sydney-based red carpet reporter Justin Hill to start a new podcast called Dear Diary, You're Effed! , which launched its first episode on August 17. "Basically every week, we just go in and we read a diary entry and very much make fun of 13-year-old Hannah," she said. "There's a lot of very serious podcasts out there; this is not that. It's like escapism. It's reality TV in a podcast. It's just there to be light, entertaining, make you laugh, and that's it. So I'm really excited about it."

Hannah said she also wants her podcast to be an interactive experience for fans, who are encouraged to share their feedback with the hosts and even send in their own diary entries.

"One of my saddest things with leaving the show was losing touch with fans. It's a weird relationship. It's online, but some of these people I've been chatting to for five years," Hannah said. "So I wanted a way to keep in touch and keep engaged with them."

Of course, the number one thing fans ask Hannah about, whether it's on Instagram or while she's out shopping, is how they can get into the yachting industry. That inspired yet another new business venture for Hannah, Ocean International Training Academy , an online course designed to help others jumpstart their yachting careers.

"I found that there was this gap in the market because there's lots of places to go to get your STCW [Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping] and your courses, et cetera. But that's a lot of money. It's nearly $2,000 to get all your courses, et cetera. So it's like, how do you know that yachting is right for you in the first place? And that's where Ocean International comes in," Hannah said. "It's like the street smarts of yachting. So it really breaks it down for you, what the industry is actually like, what you can do at home before you even leave to go and join yachting that will help you on your CV, how to write a CV, where to go, what to do, what boat is right for you, what size is right for you, whether it's private or charter. It gets down to the nitty-gritty of yachting."

Ocean International Training Academy will feature three different tiers of courses when it launches on September 1, and those interested in learning more can go to the link in Hannah's bio on Instagram . "There's a gold package that you can purchase and that's having direct email contact with me, and I help you from doing this online course to basically getting the actual position on board a boat," Hannah said. "So there is an option for me to hold your hand the whole way."

Hannah has partnered with a familiar face to Below Deck Med fans on the new business, Season 4 stew and chef Anastasia Surmava , with whom she has remained really close. "We complement each other very well in terms of the business side and what we're good at," Hannah shared. "She's just an absolute attention-to-detail perfectionist, and I'm a big dreamer, so we really complement each other well."

View this post on Instagram Hey Guys! Welcome to my new company - Ocean International Training Academy. It was inspired by you guys! I’ve worked really hard with @nastiasurmava to ensure you get everything you need in this course to decide if yachting is the right career for you. The courses are all online for now, but Hannah and Anastasia have big plans for the company. "We're hoping in the future to branch out to a stewardess training school, so we'd love to do that," Hannah said. "There's many, many places that the company can go, but it's all around just inspiring and helping young people."

Launching a podcast and a business all while getting ready to welcome your first child is no small feat. But this is where Hannah's years in yachting have come in handy, even on land. "There's a lot of training that's gone into the lack of sleep that I have at the moment, so many years in yachting. But it's just different now, I think, because I can't just think about me; I've got to think about my daughter as well," Hannah said. "So it's very much trying to balance the work with making sure that I'm taking care of myself and getting enough sleep and not stressing her out."

But inspiring the next generation of yachties is something that has always been important to Hannah. "It literally makes my heart swell, and it makes me so happy to encourage young people to get out there and travel and push themselves and see the world, because I've always been of the mentality that we really only get one shot at life. It's so easy to say, 'I'll put it off, I'll do it tomorrow.' Tomorrow's here. You do it now, or you probably won't do it," she said. "The things that are scary are what make life worthwhile. If you're not scared, you're not pushing yourself hard enough. It's the experiences that you are scared about that are usually the best ones in your life. That's what I've found."

Hannah said that she wants others to learn from and be inspired by her journey in yachting and on Below Deck Med — from "the highest of highs to the lowest of lows" and everything in between. "I'm really hoping that it helps young people just see that what they see on TV is not impossible for them to achieve themselves. And it is very hard work; it's not a glamorous, nice, always-gorgeous thing," Hannah said. "But at the same time, the best things in life are really hard work. So I definitely think it's worth it."

It's apparently the end of a Below Deck era.  Below Deck Mediterranean returns to TV on Monday night for its fifth season, which chief stewardess Hannah Ferrier says will be her last on the show and as a stew.

"I think I'm probably done," Hannah, 33, confesses to ET on video chat. "I learned when I first started yachting in my very early 20s, you know, I would see these women who were in their late 30s, 40s, sitting at a bar, getting wasted with 20-year-olds living in a tiny cabin, and I was like, I don't want [that]. I want this to be a good, fun, enriching experience that allows me to travel a lot, but I don't want to get to the stage where I'm locked into yachting and there's nothing else in my life except that."

"It's a bit different if you're captain, but as a chief stew? They just don't seem like very happy people to me," she adds.

Hannah has been the chief stew on Below Deck Med since its premiere in 2016. Her choice to exit the series follows Kate Chastain's exit from the OG series ,  Below Deck , in February. Kate, 37, had been chief stew on the franchise's flagship show for six years. Both women have called yachting a "young people's game," each saying they simply outgrew the industry that turned them into TV stars.

Hannah says she actually came to the decision that she was ready to be done with yachting before returning for season 5; she just needed one last go to confirm her choice. She admits she's interested to see how her attitude comes across on screen as the season airs.

"I think it's definitely different to any season the viewers have ever seen before when it comes to me," Hannah admits. "That’s the thing that people don't realize sometimes is like, you are in your head space and where you are, the way you're acting is normal to you, but you never really know how that’s going to, you know, come across or appear."

"I think that with yachting, you really have to be done-done with it before you can properly walk away, otherwise you're constantly questioning yourself about, did I do the right thing? Should I have done one more season? Could I have done this?" she shares. "I think probably a part of me knew that before going into this season."

"I definitely went into this season going like, I'm here to, like, give the guests the best experience they could have," she adds. "Is this something that I wanna do even for the next two or three years? Probably not."

The decision also comes on the heels of a heated fourth season for Hannah and Captain Sandy Yawn, who is calling a potential bluff on Hannah’s announcement that she's done with yachting.

"She's said that every season," Sandy tells ET, on a separate video chat. "Do you know how many crews say that? Everyone at the end of the season."

"I don't live in Hannah's mind, thankfully," she adds. "I don't know. Like, that's up to Hannah. We get out of yachting and we get back into yachting. So many people do."

At the end of season 4, Captain Sandy pulled Hannah aside to tell her that yachting was not Hannah's passion, a statement that, while true, came as a blow to the chief stew.

"She said that I wasn't passionate about yachting, which is a difficult one to tackle because I'm not passionate about boats and machines and anchor watches and how things work on boats," Hannah notes. "I am very passionate about making sure that the guests have a good time and that they're never wanting for anything, and I believe I do that. Like, we had the whole last season where we didn't have one guest complaint the whole time. Am I passionate about putting plastic rocks and fake flowers on the table? No. It’s not my style, so yeah, we kind of butt heads with that. Because what she sees as good table decor, I see as tacky."

"If someone hates their job and if someone, you know, constantly just goes against authority or… Hannah, I wish the very best," Sandy shares. "She admittedly hates yachting, so when you have that mix, it's hard to stay focused."

"Like Sandy said, it's really not my passion in life," she scoffs. "I felt like I was coming in a little bit on the back foot. ... I really put my head down and worked as hard as I could, and if that's still not good enough, then I'm not sure where I can go from here."

"I think Sandy responds very well to people who who kiss a**, and I'm not good at that," Hannah goes on to note. "I’m much more of a like, I'm here to do my job. I have respect for you as my captain, but at the same time, I do say no to her sometimes, which I don't think goes down very well."

It appears things will come to a head for Sandy and Hannah this season. At the end of the trailer, Sandy tells Hannah, "I could've fired you a long time ago, Hannah. I could've fired you last year, the year before, and I haven't." Both women play coy on whether Sandy actually pulls the trigger and fires Hannah this go-around.

"I feel like with Sandy and I, it's almost every year we're hitting the reset button and trying to have a healthy work relationship, so, yeah, we do that again," Hannah admits.

"The reality is, it's not about Sandy and Hannah's relationship," Sandy says when asked about that moment. "The fact is, Sandy's the captain. Sandy runs a vessel. She has a huge responsibility. It's not about one person."

There was a lot happening below the surface -- both literally and figuratively -- this season that affected Hannah and, in turn, Sandy, who admits she has no idea about "80 percent" of the events that transpire between her crew until the show airs on TV. That includes some drama fans will see unfold between Hannah and her second stew, Lara Flumiani.

"Lara is, yeah, she's just, she's in a league of her own that one," Hannah teases. "I thought I had seen bad, and then I saw Lara."

"It was definitely a very trying start to the season, probably the most difficult start to the season I've had in all of my Below Deck days," she adds. Hannah says she would rather work with season 4's Chef Mila Kolomeitseva -- who made homophobic remarks, served microwaved steaks to guests and was ultimately fired for being incompetent as a yacht chef -- over Lara again.

In the teaser for the season, Lara is shown being wildly insubordinate toward Hannah, telling her, "The more you piss me off, the less I will do. Get your s**t together and be nice." In another moment, it appears the women are close to blows in the galley.

"Wow," Sandy says of that interaction. "I was like, holy crap. I had no idea it was practically a fist fight in the galley. I didn't know that. Hannah doesn't tell me these things. I think if Hannah would come to me more often, I could help her navigate this."

"I always say to my crew, if you can't work it out downstairs and you bring it to me, someone usually gets fired. Who do you think I would've fired in that case?" she adds, saying she would’ve "immediately terminated" Lara had she known the truth about her behavior.

Hannah says working with her worst stew of all time added an extra layer of difficulty to an already complicated season. On top of contemplating her career future, this season was the first time she'd done a charter with a boyfriend back home; Hannah is keeping the identity of her man under wraps for now, but proudly shares that their relationship survived the charter season and is now surviving quarantine amid the coronavirus pandemic.

"I was just a little bit more aware, I guess, of my relationships with the guys on board," she says of her time shooting season 5. "Having to just consider someone else and go, yeah, I do need to check in and make sure that they know I'm alive. But then, at the same time, it was so amazing to have the support there, to just have someone at the end of the day to kind of open up to and, like, this is what happened. I'm sick of this…"

While there's a whole season left to air, Hannah has already moved on and is focused on life after Below Deck Mediterranean .

"I am really settled here in Sydney, [Australia]," she beams. "I have my partner and my dog and they bring me more happiness than anything in life has, so that’s very good. I'd just like to settle down, work in Sydney and hopefully have a rugrat or two."

Oh, and one more thing Hannah won’t miss about boat life? "June, June. Hannah," the infamous radio call turned catchphrase from season 4, where Hannah could never get ahold of her third stewardess, June Foster.

"It drove me crazy on the boat and then I had another 12 months of it, so yes, it drove me crazy," she quips.

Below Deck Mediterranean airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Bravo.

Reflecting on the differences between The Real Love Boat Australia and Below Deck Mediterranean , the TV personality told Showbiz Cheat Sheet : "With The Real Love Boat, it was obviously just really nice to be kind of treated like talent.

"That was a nice experience to have and yeah, it’s such a different show, obviously, and I’m in such a different position.

"It’s not like I’m the head person and in the middle of all the drama all the time."

What happened to Hannah?

On August 18, 2020, episode 12 of Below Deck Mediterranean's fifth season aired with a twist for fans.

Since her Below Deck firing, Hannah has been helping contestants find love in The Love Boat Australia

During the episode, fellow crew member Malia White told Captain Sandy that she found Valium in Hannah's belongings .

Despite Hannah's explanation that she carries it to help with her anxiety, Captain Sandy fired her because of Hannah's lack of prescription.

Speaking to Decider about the ordeal, the TV star said: "It wasn't narcotics. It’s an anti-anxiety medication.

"I think I’ve just been really disappointed because I feel I’m being painted as some sort of drug addict or what have you.

"Which is just so sad, because there are so many people in the world that suffer from mental illness."

"We shouldn’t be making people feel like a lesser for taking medication for mental illness or making them feel like they can’t do a job, or they can’t do what normal people can do," she went on to express.

Is Hannah married and does she have children?

On October 26, 2020, Hannah and her then-boyfriend Josh Roberts welcomed their first child together.

She wrote on Instagram of her daughter Ava Grace's birth : "She is already a little menace that has captured our hearts forever."

Below Deck Mediterranean Alum Hannah Ferrier Is Returning To TV

You may not like hearing this, but I’m a Hannah Ferrier fan and I stand by that statement. The former Below Deck Mediterranean chief stew appeared on the series from its debut in 2016. She spent 5 seasons on the show before she was fired in a flurry of controversy . Castmate and Hannah-hater Malia White went overboard (no pun intended) with her new job as Bosun and turned Hannah in to Captain Sandy Yawn for possessing undeclared Valium and CBD. She went to great lengths to label the paraphernalia as “narcotics.” And if you might be wondering how Malia knew about the “illicit” materials, it’s because she went through Hannah’s stuff. And then took pictures of it .

Hannah maintained that the Valium was prescribed for mental health reasons and the CBD was legal where they were sailing. She also revealed that she didn’t even take Valium while on charter that season . But she feels like Captain Sandy and Malia had it out for her (they did!) and that was what led to her demise. Hannah said after her exit, “I was just getting undermined all season. I had just given up. It was like, there was no more fight in me.” And that’s how I stopped watching Below Deck Med !

But now Hannah is making a grand return to the seas. As reported by E! News , Hannah made the exciting announcement on her Instagram account . She shared a picture of herself dressed in uniform, posing on a boat deck with three castmates. Hannah’s caption read, “Hey guys!!! I am bursting with excitement to share with you that I will back on your screens soon!! After more than a decade at sea in the Mediterranean I am so excited to join The Real Love Boat and help all our amazing passengers find love!” She added that she will be playing matchmaker on the series by helping contestants “every step of the way on their journeys to find their perfect match.”

She continued of the new Australian series, “I am currently filming in the Mediterranean and can’t wait to share with you the journey of our beautiful passengers finding love. not to mention my favourite back drop in the world – the Med.”

After her hasty firing from Below Deck Med , Hannah shared that she received plenty of support from fans. She told E! News back in March , “I think for every nine positive comments I’d get one negative, or not even. It was very much in my favor. And I think that was good because it’s an important conversation to have.” Hannah continued, “Saying, ‘You have drugs on board. Are you going to flush your drugs?’ blah, blah.’ I was like, ‘Why would I flush my medication down the toilet?’ You shouldn’t put that stigma where prescription medications for mental illness and recreational drugs are treated in the same way.”

Since her time away from Bravo, Hannah finally made her personal dreams come true. The career yachtie was always open about her desire to have a family and did just that. She welcomed a daughter with partner Josh Roberts in October of 2020. The two married in a Sydney beach wedding earlier this year.

How Hannah Ferrier's Below Deck Legacy Sails On

Hear how below deck med alum hannah ferrier feels about capt. sandy yawn and malia white, how she played a behind-the-scenes role in below deck down under & more in e news' exclusive..

Put it in the shipstory books.

It's been nearly two years since Captain Sandy Yawn fired Hannah Ferrier , subsequently ending the longtime chief stewardess' stint on Bravo's Below Deck Mediterranean . Hannah left the world of reality TV, but will soon return  as the cruise director on  The Real Love Boat . Additionally, it turns out the Sydney, Australia native played a big role in the development of Below Deck 's newest Peacock spinoff, Below Deck Down Under .

Captain Jason Chambers  actually  revealed that Hannah was the main reason he decided to join the show in the first place. In an exclusive interview with E! News, newlywed Hannah explained that they knew each other because "the yachting industry in Sydney is very small," so when he was asked to join Below Deck Down Under , he immediately called her.

"It's kind of funny," Hannah said, "because a lot of people would think with how things ended on the show that I would be like, 'Don't do it!'"

However, that wasn't the case, especially since Hannah knew that as a parent, Capt. Jason would benefit from the flexibility of doing Below Deck Down Under paired with "a few deliveries throughout the year" rather than working on a permanent position.

So, she talked him through the process of joining the show. Then when Hannah's good friend Aesha Scott found out she'd be serving as Capt. Jason's chief stewardess, she provided the same support.

"We spent a lot of time on the phone," Hannah said of Aesha. "Obviously, as a chief, you've got a lot of things that make your life easier like schedules and provisioning lists and what you need to set up a boat and all of that, so I would I spent a lot of time kind of compiling all those documentations into a file for her so that her job was going to be as easy as possible."

Simply put, "I want her to succeed," Hannah added. "She's a friend of mine and I think that so often people in life are either jealous or they're trying to kind of go, 'Oh, well, I had to do it myself, so you do it yourself too.' It's like, 'No, we're friends. We need to help each other.'"

In what should come as no surprise to Below Deck Med fans, Hannah isn't exactly friends with all of her former co-stars—namely  Malia White , who was the one to tell Capt. Sandy that Hannah had undeclared Valium and a CBD pen on board, leading to her dismissal . (Hannah has since explained that the Valium was prescribed and the CBD was legal where they were sailing.)

Thankfully for Hannah, most viewers took her side. "I think for every nine positive comments I'd get one negative, or not even," she told E! News. "It was very much in my favor. And I think was good because it's an important conversation to have."

"It was definitely a technicality because I hadn't declared my medication," Hannah continued, explaining that she was mostly upset with the way the situation was "handled."

"Saying, 'You have drugs on board. Are you going to flush your drugs?' blah, blah," she recalled, "I was like, 'Why would I flush my medication down the toilet?' You shouldn't put that stigma where prescription medications for mental illness and recreational drugs are treated in the same way."

Though Malia was the one to essentially facilitate Hannah's firing, looking back, Hannah sees Capt. Sandy as the "bigger villain."

"I feel like we'd even been in many situations where she would have liked to see the same result," Hannah said, "but it couldn't happen. So I feel like with her, it was very much like, 'Yes, now I've got something!'"

Added the Bravo alum, "It just felt like there was so much behind-the-scenes stuff with Sandy that nobody ever saw."

At the end of the day, "it's just a job," Hannah said. "It's just a TV show and it's not who I am and it's not how I define myself."

After all, since leaving Below Deck Med , Hannah's made quite the life for herself. She and her longtime partner Josh Roberts welcomed their first child together , a daughter named Ava Grace Roberts , and in March, the couple said "I do" in a beach wedding. Read all about the nuptials here .

Catch more of Hannah by streaming past seasons of Below Deck Mediterranean on Peacock . Season seven of the show premieres Monday, July 11 at 8 p.m. on Bravo, with new episodes dropping one week early on Peacock beginning Monday, July 4.

Former Below Deck star Hannah Ferrier on the reality of yachting

We speak to ex-below deck star hannah ferrier about her thoughts on the shows influence and her new business….

“I think what makes me most relatable to people who follow me and who have watched my career is that they know I’ve always kept it real.” Hannah Ferrier, former Below Deck Star and CEO of Ocean International Training Academy explains, “I don’t hang out with any other celebs or influencers, I’ve always had the same circle and group of friends around me.” Although she admits having over 769,000 instagram followers is ‘a bit weird’, Hannah is using her presence and influence on social media to educate her audience on the true nature of both Reality TV and working in the superyacht industry.

There are seldom ship builders, recruitment companies, or industry bodies operating in the yachting sphere who could claim to have accumulated more interest among young people than Hannah has during her time at sea. “After I left the show my messages were just completely flooded with people getting in touch with me trying to figure out how they can get on the yachts and kickstart a career at sea. But I was also so aware of these companies selling this unrealistic dream to people. I've seen a stewardess show up on a boat and say, ‘I only work like eight hours a day, and they said that when I finish work I can chill on the boat and relax.’ And it's all because of these companies trying to get as much money out of people as possible and selling them a very unrealistic dream of what yachting is.”

It was this realisation that made Hannah understand she needed to bridge the gap between people who are simply interested in yachting and those who are actively searching for a career at sea. Hannah and her business partner Anastasia Surmava - who also appeared on Below Deck, decided to set up the academy in a bid to not only teach people about the joys of yachting, but also the various trials and trepeditations that come with it.

hannah yacht show

“I tell my students, you're going to get on a plane and go to another country on your own to a place where you might not even speak the language. You have to be able to go do stuff for yourself. I'm here to help you but if you ask me something and I can google it and get the answer in two seconds then it's pointless.” Hannah argued the case for only engaging with people who have the right attitudes and motivations, “In order to work in this industry, you have to be independent and you have to have drive, I can hold your hand for some things, so I feel like there is a massive gap in the industry, and that's kind of what we're trying to help people with.”

Ocean International Training Academy offers three dedicated courses that follow the path to recruitment as Anastasia and Hannah see it. The bronze course effectively acts as a beginners crash course and entry level qualification which aims to prove to recruiters that candidates are aware of the various nuances and necessary foundations of beginning a career at sea. Meanwhile the silver courses for both interior and exterior disciplines are tailored towards teaching candidates valuable lessons so that “They don’t have to go to ask the Chief Stewardesses and Mates what to do all the time.” The zoom calls also allow the candidate to ask questions in real time and virtually meet other students from the academy.

At the Superyacht Forum in Amsterdam it was noted during a panel discussion that recruiters in the industry think that ‘Below Deck hasn’t done us favours’ due to the amount of applications with the wrong motivations. For most people who see superyachts in movies and TV it doesn’t register that they have every possibility to go and work on one of these luxury vessels. Hannah believes that the Netflix show has transpired a mixture of both positive and negative influences,

“Below Deck has definitely opened the door for a lot of people. But I also try to ensure that my students know that what you see on TV with Below Deck is not the reality of yachting.”

Hannah continued, “Obviously at the end of the day, they're making a TV show. So if we finish a charter and then we have a glass of wine and go to bed, that's not very interesting television. So the fact that they go out every third night and there's heaps of alcohol and everyone's hooking up and all of that sort of stuff kind of has a reason. If you went into an interview for Below Deck and said your favourite hobby was reading, you're probably not going to get through to the next level.”

hannah yacht show

Hannah also explained that she has absolutely no interest in signing up everyone that DMs or emails her. “I don't want to take money from somebody who I don't think would be a good fit for yachting.” For all that is said about Below Deck, one would struggle to find reason to discredit the efforts of Hannah after playing such a major role in opening the door of the industry and then educating those people with the realities of it.

When Cor De Rover, a superyacht designer of the highest ilk, suggests that he redesigned a tender garage after realising how hard they are to clean after watching an episode of Below Deck, it’s difficult to heap too much criticism on the show. As Hannah states, “You do see on Below Deck the hours they work, the crew quarters they live in, how hard they're running up and down the stairs all day. There's some things that glamorise it and then there's some things that are very true to the industry that are good for people to know.”

Hannah believes that by passing on some of the ‘cheat codes’ and ‘loopholes’ that one can only attain by spending time on board, she can build a candidate with an experienced head on young shoulders - the dream of any recruiter. Her courses have been designed specifically to not only act as a crash course for interested individuals, but to also give candidates that little extra something that will make them stand out from the regular crowd. Those who complete her course will have an affordable and yet fully accredited qualification which proves the candidate hasn’t simply done the minimum requirements and walked into the right crew bar at the right time.

hannah yacht show

When it comes to the realities of yachting, it would be Naive to think that there aren’t more than a few hard pills to swallow. The superyacht industry has been blamed in the past for being superficial and lacking in diversity and inclusivity, Hannah admitted, “I started out thirteen years ago, and I especially realise now that I was probably hired for my looks and because I was just kind of there. I would like to do my job very well but…

"There were some people who would take it much more seriously than me and they weren't getting jobs.”

Hannah continued, “I do feel like the industry is getting a lot better. We now have three males stewards working who were students with us, and you know, when I started, you would never hear of that. Fortunately it is also becoming a lot more open to the LGBTQ community. Also, as hideous as it sounds, I only knew one African-American when I got my first few years in yachting, and that was very disheartening. But I feel like it is slowly getting better. I always say I feel like the audience is like 20 years behind, like every other industry. That's kind of normal. So I'm hoping we're going to catch up really soon. It is hard to stand up to what the owner wants as crew…

“You either just lose your job and stand up for what's right, or you shut up and give the owner what they want, but that's just a lot of the industry in general to be honest.”

Hannah and Anastasia have big plans for the next few years, while the COVID-19 pandemic hasn’t helped procedures, they are hopeful for an exciting year at O.I.T.A. In the near future they plan to have a physical school open where they can do face to face training with candidates. The ultimate holistic aim is to raise the industry standard and provide the industry with properly vetted and qualified recruits - an absolute necessity if the industry is to meet its aim of hiring 25,000 crew by 2030.

112 Westport Yacht Hannah aerial drone

Hannah: How a nine month refit drastically transformed this 34m Westport superyacht

Related articles, superyacht directory.

With minimal structural changes, the refit of the 34 metre Westport Hannah transformed it into a completely new boat

The story of Hannah starts with one man’s quest for a Westport . It was to be his first large yacht, and the Pacific Northwest brand was the one many had recommended to him as a great all-around cruising boat. He had previously owned a 13 metre Hatteras , used primarily for fishing, so this purchase would mark a major shift in his boating lifestyle.

Taking the refit route over commissioning a new-build helped ease the transition. While a new Westport 112 would have cost $15 million (£10.8m), “When I bought this, I thought that my investment was going to be around three million,” the owner says. He attended all the boat shows and searched far and wide. “I actually signed the contract to buy two before this one. Both times, I unfortunately had to cancel.” Third time was the charm and, undaunted by his survey’s 134 pages of objections, he bought the 2003 34 metre raised-pilothouse motor yacht and set out to bring her up to his high standards.

Newly renamed Hannah , the yacht spent nine months at Rolly Marine Service in Fort Lauderdale, getting up to speed mechanically and aesthetically. The owner was hands-on and at the yard every day. The many points noted by the surveyor were relatively minor in his eyes, the likes of expired fire extinguishers, and the 17-year-old yacht had only 3,400 hours on her MTU engines. The new owner and his captain, who acted as the project manager, decided to do the 4,000-hour work early to catch up on maintenance.

“I wanted to make sure that everything was not 100, but 1,000 percent correct if I was going to use it, so we went overboard,” the owner says. His and his wife’s desire for wanting the best, combined with the surprises a refit can uncover, meant the scope of work began to grow during the refit.

They swapped out the “so-so” air-conditioning chillers, which led them to replace the air handlers, and why not all 13 of them? The old halogen lights, which are known fire hazards, were traded for energy-efficient LEDs, which required new wiring. The yacht’s previous sedentary lifestyle was evident in the engine room, where they installed new hoses, risers and pumps.

While all of this behind-the-scenes work ensures the yacht’s reliable running for years to come, the real star of the refit is the interior’s dramatic transformation.

Following a recommendation by Andrew Miles, his broker, the owner selected Destry Darr to envision the new Hannah . The principal of Destry Darr Designs has worked on six Westports over the years, and she says she loves them for their future-proof design. “It’s almost like they plan ahead; they don’t make it difficult to change things.” And what she achieved by covering the old finishes with pearlescent and metallic paints, textured wall coverings and modern veneers amounts to a remarkable rejuvenation.

She first visited the owners’ home to get a sense of their style. “It’s very contemporary with cool tones and plenty of texture, so I wanted to incorporate as many different finishes and textures as we could,” she says. “Lighting was of the utmost importance to the owner, and he wanted the headliners to be as white and bright as possible.” She added more lighting in almost every area on board, and the colour temperature the owner chose for the LEDs was 6,000 Kelvin, otherwise known as super bright white. “I selected the white paint and showed him the different colour lights with the paint. The warmer lights made the paint look more yellow,” Darr says – and yellow was the opposite of her cool decor plan.

“We based the design on a very clean palette of neutral colours with moody deep blues and soft cerulean blues paired with different shades of whites and greys,” she says. The original cherry cabinetry either received a coat of white or grey paint in a satin pearlescent or glossy metallic finish or was reveneered with an open-grain oak dyed grey. “For the main deck, we chose a wire-brushed oak engineered wood floor, which conveys a contemporary coastal feel,” Darr says, pointing out that its rustic look also makes a nice contrast to the high-gloss surfaces.

“The project started out as a minor ‘fluff and puff’ decor refit. However, as we got into the project, we uncovered areas that needed some attention, which led to more work,” Darr continues. One of these areas was the main saloon. To open the space and bring in light, Darr removed the original television console that split the saloon from the dining area and added two windows on either side of the sliding glass door. New cabinets in the aft corners now hide the television and a bar.

The biggest interior change, however, is in the forward space Westport normally reserves for a VIP cabin, where two small bunk cabins had been built for the original owner’s security detail. The area was gutted and Darr recreated a single luxurious guest cabin, converting one of the en suites into a cedar-lined wardrobe. “It came out phenomenally,” the owner says.

He particularly loves his new cabin and en suite. A shower and spa tub divided the original full-beam bathroom in a traditional his-and-hers arrangement. The redesign got rid of the seldom-used tub, lowered the floor and raised the ceiling, making space for an enormous shower clad in Pompeii quartz. In the cabin, Darr says, “We removed the outdated mirror, semi-circular soffit and mitred panels and modernised the stateroom’s headboard and soffit.” New insulation shelters the suite from any sound stemming from the main saloon above it.

The other two guest cabins received new furnishings, upholstery and Fabrica carpeting. “In the twin guest stateroom, we added a Pullman berth and modified the twin beds to slide together easily to create a king,” Darr adds.

There is little on board that remains untouched; it’s all new, from the galley’s shiny Cambria quartz countertops, to the Sub-Zero, Viking and U-line appliances, to the wall coverings by Phillip Jeffries and Crezana Design that beg to be touched. “We didn’t have a lot of patterns in colour so we did this fun tile,” says Darr, referencing the eye-popping mosaics that brighten each head, which also feature elegant Villeroy & Boch and Kallista fixtures.

The interior furniture is new, most of it custom designed. You wouldn’t know it from the refined impression they make, but some of the interior fabrics by Perennials are meant for the outdoors, including the main saloon rug. This was a calculated move to make the yacht resilient for charter. “We really wanted to bring in as many durable finishes as possible,” Darr says.

The final step in the ever-escalating project was outfitting Hannah for personal and charter use. Darr, whose company opened a showroom in Fort Lauderdale last year, delivered the yacht turnkey, down to tabletop accessories by Kim Seybert and bed linens by Yves Delorme and Sferra. She even supplied the guest book that sits in a nook under a sculpture by contemporary artist Thierry Guetta, aka Mr Brainwash. The artwork’s words in bold red script spelling “Life is Beautiful” reflect the owner’s philosophy.

He admits he may have gone a bit overboard on the refit, but he couldn’t resist making the yacht perfect. “You know what I tell Destry? With my chequebook and her work, we’ll go places,” he says with a laugh.

While his investment ended up doubling over the course of the project, the renewed yacht is still significantly less expensive than a new build and more than proved its worth on the family’s first trip to the Bahamas. During the voyage, he wrote his interior designer a letter expressing his happiness: “I just want to say that life truly is beautiful.”

Palm Beach International Boat Show returns to West Palm Beach waterfront

The Palm Beach International Boat Show returns this week with more nearly 1,000 vessels on display, including super yachts from around the world.

Tickets are on sale now for the show that runs March 21-24 along the West Palm Beach waterfront.

The show, which started in 1982, has grown to a major economic engine for the community, with last year's impact estimated at $1.05 billion statewide — nearly as much as the $1.3 billion Miami International Boat Show, said Alyssa Freeman, executive director of the Marine Industries Association of Palm Beach County, which owns the boat show.

More: Cool front for South Florida won't be its last even with the first day of spring here

"Palm Beach is really not that far behind Miami, and Miami is the biggest in the world," Freeman said. "That was really exciting."

This year's boat show features an expanded Super Yacht Show at Palm Harbor Marina, showcasing yachts that typically stretch longer than 80 feet and have a variety of luxurious amenities that include hot tubs, crew quarters, dance floors and sun decks.

"We have more super yachts there than we ever have before, and they're even bigger," Freeman said, noting that at 236 feet, the vessel Casino Royale takes the title of largest yacht at this year's show. The title of "most expensive yacht" goes to Come Together, a 196-foot vessel priced at $59.95 million.

"Everybody, when they think about super yachts, they think about Monaco and Miami, but Palm Beach is a real player in these boat shows and the yachting world," Freeman said.

Exhibitors continue to be drawn to the Palm Beach International Boat Show by the opportunity for high sales year after year when compared with other South Florida boat shows, she said.

"I've heard from several of them, this is their favorite show to attend," Freeman said, "And that's why, because their sales are higher at Palm Beach."

The show continues to make headway in improving its sustainability efforts, she said. After reducing single-use plastics, a major change this year is the addition of water bottle refilling stations throughout the show, Freeman said.

"I think that's exciting because everybody's talking about sustainability and how we can be more sustainable," she said. "Every year, we take little steps to be more sustainable."

Freeman said she is excited for this year's AquaZone presented by Nautical Ventures. The attraction showcases some of the "yacht toys" that are new or popular on the market.

"It's so cool, because there are people actually in the water demoing yacht toys, and it's usually the latest and greatest," she said. "There's always something new every year that we've never seen before."

The Palm Beach International Boat Show also features a range of seminars, demonstrations and discussions throughout the weekend, including mental health in yachting, tips to boat to the Bahamas, safe boating to protect sea turtles and how to address active threats and piracy.

Freeman, who has children, said she loves the Kids Fishing Clinics scheduled for noon and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday with captain Don Dingman.

"Captain Don has been doing this for years, and he does a fantastic job," Freeman said. "The kids actually get to go home with a free rod and reel once the clinic is over."

The association produces the Palm Beach International Boat Show with Informa Markets' U.S. Boat Shows division.

"As we gear up for the 2024 Palm Beach International Boat Show, we are excited for our return to Downtown West Palm Beach to celebrate the rich history of this esteemed event," Andrew Doole, president of U.S. Boat Shows at Informa Markets, said in a news release. "Each year, we’re grateful for the warm welcome and support from the community, which truly makes this event a highlight on the calendar for both residents and visitors alike."

Informa also produces the Palm Beach Modern + Contemporary art show happening March 21-24, at the Palm Beach County Convention Center. A Windward VIP ticket to the boat show includes admission to the art show as well.

In addition to serving as a cornerstone festival of spring in West Palm Beach, the boat show launched the Palm Beach International Boat Show Gives Back program to provide hundreds of thousands of dollars in contributions to local nonprofits, Freeman said.

The grant program had a soft launch last year and formalized the boat show's four-decade practice of giving back to the community, Freeman said.

"We're really excited about it," said Freeman, who added that the boat show team is working with the Community Foundation to manage the grant program, which they hope to grow. "That's something that's a super high priority for us."

Money raised through a portion of the boat show's ticket sales, optional add-ons and some related activities goes toward the fund.

The boat show in February announced that the first round of grants totaling $500,000 would go to 25 nonprofits that have marine-related programs or projects, including Florida Fishing Academy, Loggerhead Marinelife Center, Florida Atlantic University, Inlet Grove High School, Palm Beach State College, Sea Turtle Adventures and Friends of Manatee Lagoon.

"We're hoping one day we'll be able to say that it's a million dollars," she said. "So fingers crossed. It relies on the success of the boat show and the support of the community. With that, we will continue to grow."

Time for a bigger boat? Check out what the Palm Beach International Boat Show has to offer

hannah yacht show

Whether you're the son of a son of a sailor or even just love that song and want to know more, the granddaddy of all boating events is happening this weekend along the West Palm Beach waterfront.

That's right, the Palm Beach International Boat Show is back for four glorious days along Flagler Drive.

This will be the 42nd annual event, and organizers promise it will be bigger and better than ever.

There will be $1.2 billion worth of Bond-worthy super yachts, cruisers, sportfishing boats, center consoles and even inflatables to see and tour, along with attractions and activities highlighting the latest in boat engines, motors and accessories. There will also be the latest fishing gear and even fishing seminars.

Yes, it's a big event, but don't be intimidated. In fact, here are seven fun facts about the show:

How many boats can the Palm Beach boat show boast?

There will be more than 800 boats on display along the floating docks in the Intracoastal Waterway.

What is the biggest boat at the Palm Beach International Boat Show?

With a length of 236 feet (and 38 feet wide), Casino Royale takes the title for largest boat this year. This gorgeous yacht, designed for her exterior lines by Francesco Paszkowski with interior by Paszkowski’s interior lead designer Margherita Casprini, is also one of the most technically advanced yachts in her category. Casino Royale is powered by twin Caterpillar 3516B main engines and has an impressive top speed of 17.5 knots. You can put your checkbooks away for this one, however, as she is only on display and not for sale.

This boat is the boat show's most epensive

Built in 2022 and 196-feet long, Come Together is listed for $59,950,000. This expedition yacht was delivered by the Dutch shipyard Amels and features interior styling by British designer Winch Design. It can comfortably accommodate up to 12 guests in six cabins along with 14 crew members.

Are spectators allowed to go on the boats?

To go onboard the yachts and superyachts, visitors must make an appointment with the brokers. For the smaller boats, however, spectators can come onboard if they are interested in buying.

What is the smallest boat?

The smallest boat being displayed on the water is a runabout boat that is 22-feet-6-inches long, and 5-feet-11 wide. It is manufactured by Hermes.

Eating inside the boat show

The show will have dozens of food concessions featuring almost anything you could be craving, from Greek gyros to woodfired picanha, authentic street tacos and hand-crafted burgers. On a seafood diet? Enjoy fresh stone crab claws, calamari, oysters, and much more! Vegetarian, vegan, and/or gluten-free? No problem; they have options for you as well.

And libations at the boat show?

Of course there will be drinks. To be precise, there will be four bars for general admission guests, including two floating cocktail barges: the Goslings Island Bar and the Anheuser-Busch Barge. In addition there will be multiple bars in the Windward VIP Club.

A look at the most expensive superyachts at the Palm Beach yacht show and their insane features, from basketball courts on deck to ice baths and saunas

  • The Palm Beach International Boat Show kicks off later this week.
  • Eight megayachts are expected to be on display for would-be buyers and charter customers.
  • These are the show's biggest yachts — and how many millions of dollars they are going for.

Insider Today

The Palm Beach International Boat Show — the yacht world's flashiest event stateside — is returning this year with over 800 boats for both deep-pocketed potential owners and window shoppers to peruse.

While it's impossible to know what exactly will be on display until the show begins on Thursday, it's expected that eight megayachts — generally defined as ships over 60 meters long — will be docked at the show and at nearby marinas like the Rybovich Marina in the ritzy Florida town.

Some of these are for sale at eye-popping prices, but others are available to charter in case you fancy living like a billionaire for a week or two this summer (and if you have six figures to spare on a vacation).

These are the eight biggest yachts that will be at the Palm Beach International Boat Show and nearby marinas, in size order.

Nero: 90.1 meters

Price: From $497,000 a week (charter) Standout features: Pizza ovens, beauty salon, massage room, resistance pool

Reportedly owned by Irish billionaire Denis O'Brien, Nero is modeled after J.P. Morgan's 1930s ship , and was built in 2007 and updated in 2021.

She now boasts a gym on her sundeck with multiple cardio machines and a beauty salon, and has an on-board beautician for manicure, pedicure, hair, and massage needs. There's also an upgraded movie theater, two new pizza ovens, and both a pool and a jacuzzi.

For those who want to go overboard, she has more than a dozen toys, including a waterslide, Jet Ski, and flyboard.

Victorious: 85 meters

Price: From $876,600 a week in the summer and $950,000 a week in the winter Standout features: Hammam (Turkish bath), wine cellar, wood-burning fireplace, children's playroom

Victorious brings a party vibe to the yacht show. With a beach club on board, a wine cellar, a cigar clubroom , multiple bars, and a lounge with a piano, the vessel is made for entertaining. Plus, there's a playroom and movie theater to entertain the kids.

For tamer charter clients, Victorious has a suite of wellness features such as a gym, massage room, beauty salon and hammam — perhaps a custom request of her owner, Turkish businessman Vural Ak.

She also boasts a treasure trove of water toys, including Jet Skis, jetsurfs, inflatable kayaks, and scuba equipment.

Casino Royale: 72 meters

Price: TBD Special Features: Infinity pool, helipad, private jacuzzi

Purchased and refitted by car dealer magnate John Staluppi last year, Casino Royale is the latest of his James Bond-inspired yachts (he's also owned an Octopussy and a Skyfall, among others).

Casino Royale has a helipad that turns into a dancefloor, an infinity pool, and a wellness center with a gym and sauna. The owner's cabin has its own deck, which features a private bar and jacuzzi.

However, the boat's price isn't listed, and while she's not necessarily officially for sale, that might change depending on who's prepared to buy, Mr. Bond.

Talisman C: 70.6 meters

Price: $60 million (or from $567,000 a week to charter) Special features: Massage and beauty room, private library

Likely the largest yacht for sale (not just charter) at the show, the Talisman C is a 2011 six-bedroom boat. The owner's cabin comes with an en suite bathroom, dressing room, private library, and crystal chandeliers.

Amenities include a gym, a beauty room, oversized jacuzzi, and a fully equipped bar. Her crew of 19 includes a trained masseuse, and the toy room comes equipped with a wakeboard, eFoil , and WaveRunners.

Joy: 70 meters

Price: From $650,000 a week Special features: Disco club, basketball court, onboard fitness instructor

Superyacht Joy testifies to the fact that owners want as many on-board experiences as they can get.

There's an expansive suite of fitness features, including a basketball court (don't shoot that hoop too hard!), a personal trainer on staff, boxing equipment, and a handful of machines. For post-workout winddowns, there's a spa with a steam room and onboard masseuse. And for entertainment, there's both an outdoor and indoor cinema, and a disco club.

Triumph: 65.4 meters

Price: From $707,600 a week in the summer and $650,000 a week in the winter Special features: Sauna, helipad, banana boat

This 2021 superyacht is named after Triumph motorcycles — a reported favorite of her rumored owner, British businessman Chris Dawson — and even has one on display as an art piece in the upper deck's lounge. The primary suite is 1,400 square feet and has its own study , and there's a sauna, an indoor-outdoor gym, a helipad, and a massage room spread among her six decks.

She boasts an "armada of water toys," including two kinds of Jet Skis, electric water bikes, and a banana boat.

Seanna: 64.5 meters

Price: $54,000,000 (or from $462,000 a week to charter) Special features: marble foyer, movie room, sundeck pool

The recently refurbished Seanna is available for sale and charter.

Her indoor-outdoor gym is on sea level so that passengers can take a dip after a session with the onboard personal trainer. There's also a sundeck pool, a helipad, a two-room massage facility, and, for the more cerebral guests, a library with an electric fireplace.

There are a number of toys on board, including a popular water trampoline and two WaveRunners.

Come Together: 60 meters

Price: $65,000,000 Special Features: DJ and videographer on board, ice bath, sauna

Next-to-new yacht Come Together is looking for a new owner after doing charters during the 2023 season.

The Beatles' influence is evident beyond the yacht's name, with guitars dotting the sky lounge and a crewmember who doubles as a DJ. There's also an outdoor cinema and bar for entertainment and an ice bath and sauna for the day after the party. The owner's suite has a private study and lounge, and each guest cabin has its own ensuite.

The sale includes a number of toys, like Jet Skis, kayaks, and Seabobs.

Yachtapalooza, 1-day Chicago boat show on Far South Side, 'perfect for aspiring sailors'

Christian Piekos Image

CHICAGO (WLS) -- It might be a chilly spring day, but hundreds are getting ready to set sail at the 25th Yachtapalooza at Crowley's Yacht Yard on Chicago's Far South side.

Grant Crowley is the owner of Crowley's Yacht Yard.

"This is a get spring going for us," he said of the yearly one-day boat show.

Crowley is knotting together different sailing organizations from all walks of life stretching Chicago's nautical community.

From hands-on seminars and demonstrations, highlighting the vital how-tos of sailing, to budget-friendly boats on sale, organizers say Yachtapalooza is perfect for aspiring future sailors.

"We have 12 seminars going on. We even have sail makers here teaching how to trim your sails," said Crowley.

Yachtapalooza also supports nonprofit organizations like No Salt Sailing that helps veterans heal from unseen wounds through sailing.

"Once you get out there and the sails are up, you turn off the motor, there's nothing like it in the world for tranquility," said No Salt Sailing founder William Shehan. "I've done meditation, I've done martial arts, I've done all those things and it is an act of meditation."

Mt. Carmel High School is also showcasing its newly-formed sailing program. They want to recruit young sailors eager to get on board.

"Just to see them accomplish things, watch them become more confident in what they do. Appreciating the value of teamwork, learning new skills, just the whole ball of wax," said Bob Szyman, Mt. Carmel Sailing.

The weather might be brisk now...but these sailors have their compasses set on a warmer horizon.

"There's nothing more sublime than being two miles out on Lake Michigan in a sailboat, beautiful day, sun's out and we've got our gorgeous skyline in the background. You can't beat it," said Szyman.

Caitlin Clark’s dad yells at her to stop complaining during March Madness game

If Caitlin Clark was looking for sympathy with Iowa leading by 19 points, her dad wasn’t about to offer it from the stands.

It looked like the most popular player in women’s college basketball was complaining to the officials – or maybe to her father – after a foul was called on her teammate Saturday with less than one minute to go in the second quarter of an NCAA Tournament first-round game.

The ESPN television camera panned to her father, Brent, yelling back to “Stop!”

caitlin clark complaining to the officials & her dad just telling her to shut up has me in tears man😭😭😭 pic.twitter.com/5JnhMPn4lg — cj (@wsgadlibs) March 23, 2024

Caitlin Clark's dad Brent yells at her during Iowa's March Madness game on Saturday.

Let’s just say he wasn’t criticizing the officials, too.

CBS reporter Brad Crawford claimed that Brent later could be heard saying, “Take her out, my gosh,” after his daughter committed an offensive foul and her sixth turnover of the first half.

Sounds like Clark played poorly, right? Well, she nearly finished with a triple-double , scoring 27 points and adding 10 assists and eight rebounds over 31 minutes as No. 1 Iowa routed No. 16 Holy Cross, 91-65, in the Albany 2 Region.

Iowa will face No. 8 West Virginia at 8 p.m. Monday on ESPN.

Brent was Caitlin’s first basketball coach and she credits him for pushing her to be better at a young age. Particularly when it came to developing her patented long-range 3-pointers.

Iowa guard Caitlin Clark (22) passes the ball against Holy Cross guard Bronagh Power-Cassidy (13) during a March Madness game on Saturday.

“I give a lot of credit to my dad,” Clark told ESPN last month. “He was my first-ever basketball coach, but he was the guy that would never let me shoot 3s when I was a young kid because he knew my form would be awful.”

She added, “”I probably didn’t like it at the time and I was mad at him about it, but looking back, shooting form fundamentals are the best thing.”

So, Caitlin has some experience not liking her father’s instant reactions but coming around to see his point of view.

Aesha Scott talks Hannah Ferrier firing from Below Deck Med and their unbreakable friendship

Aesha Scott gets candid about friendship with Hannah Ferrier and her Below Decl Med firing.

Aesha Scott is opening up about Hannah Ferrier being fired from Below Deck Mediterranean and their unbreakable friendship.

The new second stew was left in the dark for a long time regarding why Hannah left the yacht and Bravo show mid-season. Aesha, Hannah, and Anastasia Surmava became very good friends after working together on the Sirocco during Season 4 of Below Deck Med.

No one was talking

Viewers watched as Captain Sandy Yawn fired Hannah over valium and lack of trust. The episode was one of the most dramatic in Below Deck franchise history.

Aesha, however, was not privy to what went down. When she boarded The Wellington, no one was talking about it. She did know Hannah was gone, but that’s all the information she had at the time.

Although she didn’t push the crew to reveal why Hannah was gone, Aesha did try to get some details out of them.

“I kind of was going around to other people, trying to get little hints about what happened. No one wanted to say anything,” she said to Decider .

Aesha eventually decided to let it go because she knew Hannah would tell her what went down in due time. All Hannah told her, though, was that it was a crazy season . Aesha didn’t’ know all of the drama that unfolded until she watched it play out on screen, just like fans.

Friendship with Hannah

The second stew was sad to learn she wouldn’t be working with her friend Hannah again.

“You saw how we were last season. We were just the absolute best, best friends. It was so nice. It was definitely a let-down,” Aesha expressed.

Aesha praises Hannah instagram post

Hannah didn’t find out for a long time that Aesha was the second stew replacement. All cast members are supposed to keep their involvement with the show a secret from filming until Bravo starts promoting the season. If a person is a replacement, like Aesha, the person must keep quiet until their first episode.

Once Aesha broke the news to her friend, she said Hannah was just fine with it. Hannah’s understanding is one of the many reasons Aesha is so fond of her pal. Aesha has even called meeting Hannah one of the best things that came out of her first experience on the Bravo show.

Below Deck Mediterranean airs Mondays at 9/8c on Bravo.
