Carpe Ventus

Carpe Ventus (Latin for “Seize the Wind”) is a seasoned offshore performer, and is all set up for cruising   locally or on the Blue Waters of the Pacific Ocean and beyond. Her maximum speed under sail is reported by Beneteau to be 8.1 knots.

The owners were, until now, active in both their local yacht club and the Blue Water Cruising Association, but life events have changed their priorities and now this lovely boat is available for new owners to fill out its log book.

With a pedigree combining both Bruce Farr (Designer) and Beneteau (Constructor), Carpe Ventus has a lot going for it. It’s size enhances its sea-keeping abilities – and provides plenty of room for provisions, crew and space for spouses to get away from each other when the situation requires it!

As you might expect from a vessel such as this, you will find more than adequate instruments and electronics. It has an e-PIRB and a Single Side Band (SSB) radio complete with modem for communicating on the amateur radio channels and marine high frequencies, and for sending short text emails (with SailMail).

A wind generator, 300 Amp and 75 Amp alternators and solar panels will keep your batteries charged when between marinas, and the shore power and battery charger will quickly top them up when you are docked.

Step aboard and feel the stiffness. Grab the wheel and feel the control. Start the engine and hear how it purrs,  without smoke. Raise the sails and listen to the sound of the boat slicing through the chop, This is just a lovely boat to spend a lot of time on.

Over the last decade, the owners have kept Carpe Ventus up to date with:

• Espar (Esparbacher) cabin heater,
• Caribe dinghy

• 200′ of anchor chain and rode
• Awlgrip hull and deck paint with Kiwigrip anti-slip coating
• Fridge and freezer compressors
• Engine and house batteries

• Rudder and cutless bearing
• Running rigging
• Burner stove refurbishment
• Salon cushions
• Solar panels and charger
• Tides Marine Track has been installed to improve mainsail handling
• The diesel engine has been maintained
• The wind vane, hydraulic autohelm and the water maker high pressure pump have been refurbished

There is a staysail with removable inner stay (to make a cutter rig).

This vessel was constructed with three heads, but one of these has been converted to (more useful) storage.

At the end of the day, a shower and a sleep in a comfortable bunk are what every good sailor needs – and the beautiful brightwork will enhance your pride of ownership.
