Nestled along the Long Island Sound, Groton Long Point is a tiny gem of a town, covering just 0.5 square miles in Connecticut. This place holds a special spot in our hearts, drawing us back every few years to reunite with family and friends who call it home.

Groton Long Point is like stepping into a time machine set for the 1950s, where the community is so tight-knit that everyone feels like family. Kids here grow up making lifelong friends, and even if they move away, they come back every summer. The town comes alive in the summer, with streets filled with kids biking, skateboarding, and fishing in the river. It’s a refreshing sight, with kids enjoying classic outdoor fun instead of being glued to screens.

The beachfront is lined with all kinds of homes, from cozy cottages to grand mansions, all ready for beach adventures. The Long Island Sound becomes a playground, filled with sailboats, paddleboards, and families having a blast in the water. And let’s not forget the grand July 4th parade, where the whole town joins in, decorating everything from cars to dogs in patriotic colors. The Yacht Club adds to the fun with its mix of yacht club and summer camp vibes, offering ice cream treats and crab-catching adventures.

Emily and Marc’s Yacht Club Wedding || Groton Long Point, CT

Emily and marc’s story.

Emily and Marc were married last Saturday with a ceremony and reception at the Groton Long Point Yacht Club.

Their love story begins by meeting through mutual friends during freshman year at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. They were friends for a year before the stars aligned just right and they  started to inevitably fall for each other. Emily loves how passionate Marc is whether it’s surfing, working, or relationships with family and friends.  He shows passion in everything that he does. Marc loves how genuine, quirky and kind Emily is and it was an extra bonus that she loves being outdoors as much as he does.

Dreamy Flower Field Proposal

The day started with Marc making Emily an amazing breakfast before they headed to the Carlsbad Flower Fields to adventure around. The flower fields are 50 acres of flowers surrounding you in every direction with breathtaking beauty. They had lunch and practiced acroyoga and then watched the sunset near the cliffs of the flower fields overlooking the ocean. Marc picked the perfect place and told Emily that he wanted their adventure to last a lifetime and popped the question.

A Stormy, Spring Wedding

Their wedding day started out beautiful with the sun in the sky and no clouds in sight. That afternoon when I got to where Emily was getting ready there was a heavy rain shower and the sky was a dark gray. When it was time to do the first look, the sky had opened and the rain had stopped within minutes of us going outside. We followed the first look with family portraits right on the water with a beautiful foggy backdrop. The ceremony was moved inside the tent so we all tucked away and watched Emily and Marc exchange vows with their loved ones surrounding them.

A Groton Long Point Casino Reception

The reception was held inside the yacht club with views overlooking the water in both directions. The wedding party was introduced and the speeches began. Marc’s twin brother Philip had the whole room echoing with laughter and delivered a hilarious speech to his brother and new sister-in-law.

After all the formalities, the dancing began and the party started. You could tell this group of friends and family had many late night dance parties in the past. Everyone was having so much fun shaking and grooving together. A dance circle opened up where the groomsmen had some serious dance-offs and showed their epic dance moves.

I snuck out with Emily and Marc to get a few more portraits during sunset and the clouds started rolling back in. Right after we finished portraits and went back inside, the rain starting coming down again. I think it was incredible timing for the rain to stop minutes before their first look and then start back up minutes after our last photo. It was like the clouds were joining together and protecting that little part of GLP that day.

Emily and Marc, what a blessing it was to share your most perfect celebration and for you to have invited me into your hearts. Your friends and family that surround you are some of the best and are a reflection of how great you both are. I’m happy to now call you friends and hope to see you on the East Coast soon!
